Jaish e Mohammed Commander Toes Up in Kashmir
[OpIndia] The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has neutralized the commander of the terror organization Jaish-e-Mohammad in an encounter in Sopore area of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“He’s dead, Jim.”
“Dr. Quincy, how do you always know?!”
An official said, "A commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad was killed in an ongoing encounter in Sopore.
One bullet accidentally entered his skull behind the right ear in the excitement.”
The terrorist was identified as Sajad Nawab Dar".
Golly. A three-namer for our first Indian encounter. How cool is that?
Officials said that they are waiting for further information.
Information?! Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion don’t need no information — what on earth is going on in India that they do?
He claimed that after a piece of initial information regarding the presence of terrorists,
*Ring ring* “Mukerjee the Weasel here. Listen closely, I will say this only once.”
a search operation was launched at late Tuesday night in the Arampora area of Sopore in the northern district of Kashmir. The security forces laid a strict siege to prevent the terrorist from fleeing.

As per reports, the militants were neutralized on Wednesday morning when they opened fire on security forces while they were on a search operation.

Earlier on Tuesday, a terrorist threw a grenade on security forces who were on patrol in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district due to which a CRPF jawan was martyred and another was injured. An official said that the Head constable Shivlal Neetam was martyred in the incident. The injured soldiers were taken to local hospital where Neetam was declared dead.

Higher Education Will Never Be the Same‐And That's Not All Bad
James G. Martin center via Instapundit

The coronavirus, combined with the public and private reactions to it, has affected every aspect of Americans’ lives, including the ways they learn. From pre-K to graduate seminars, many classes are moving online for the duration of the pandemic and perhaps beyond. That may spur pedagogical reforms that will lead to the creation of more Emersonian independent thinkers, people who can quickly find, analyze, and synthesize available data to come to reasoned conclusions on important matters‐a resource that seemed in mighty short supply when the coronavirus hit the proverbial fan in mid-March.

Many colleges and universities will evidently have to tighten their belts for some time. Counterintuitively, it would be the lack of resources rather than a surfeit of them that could spur positive change among our very costly but not very effective schools.

...Tight budgets can be a good thing because they force leaders to make difficult decisions and to focus on what is most important. A big federal bailout would forestall such a reckoning by allowing universities to continue spending recklessly on projects not closely connected to pedagogy and student learning.

#5  Most students lack your horsepower, G. They learn better through videos, and Strang's videos are amazingly clear, with no BS effort to either dumb down the material or lame efforts to make math jokey and "fun."

There's a formula in here somewhere about how to make complex subjects clear and understandable to an audience of tens or even hundreds of thousands. Simon Schama's Art History videos have cracked this code as well.

At some point I can see half or more of the colleges in this country either slimming down to a few profs plus some technical staff or else going out of business altogether, replaced by a few hundred successors of Strang and Schama.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Father arrested for playing with daughter in park, citing coronavirus restrictions
In an incident caught on video, a former Colorado State Patrol trooper said he was handcuffed in front of his 6-year old daughter on a near-empty softball field Sunday by Brighton police officers enforcing social distancing rules. The department apologized Tuesday afternoon, calling the incident an "overreach by our police officers."
Threatening a family for not breaking a law, one of the family being a little girl. Explicitly stating that they were going to arrest the guy in front of his little daughter in order to illegally coerce a desired behavior. Three cops in the picture, and they called back to the station for guidance, too. All on the same wavelength, not one of them had the common sense to figure out beforehand or during the event that everything about this is just wrong, including potentially exposing the family to CV and, more importantly (to the city anyway) the city to a lawsuit. Way to serve the people! I've spoken to police, and in my experience they know what they can and cannot do, and what they can usually get away with. Major problem here.
Matt Mooney, 33, told ABC News he walked with his wife and daughter from their home to a nearby park Sunday to play softball.

"We're just having a good time, not near anybody else. The next closest person is at least 15 feet away from me and my daughter at this point," Mooney told ABC News.

Police arrived soon after, Mooney said, telling him and others in the area to leave because the park was closed.

Mooney said he told officers that he was familiar with the posted rules and believed he and his family were in compliance and practicing proper social distancing. He said he refused to provide his identification when officers asked for it because he had not broken any law.

"Well, they didn't like that idea. They then proceeded to make a threat against me saying, 'If you don't give us your identification, if you don't identify yourself, we're going to put you in handcuffs in front of your 6-year-old daughter.'"

Mooney said officers handcuffed him and placed him in a patrol car for about 10 to 15 minutes while they phoned a supervisor for guidance. The incident was captured on cellphone footage by former Brighton City Councilman Kirby Wallin.

"Yeah, it's Sunday and the Brighton police are apparently arresting a dad for throwing a ball to his daughter," Wallin is heard saying on the video.

In a statement, the Brighton Police Department said it was "deeply sorry" for the incident and is conducting an internal investigation.

"While the investigation sorts through the different versions of what took place by witnesses who were at the park, it is evident there was an overreach by our police officers," the statement said. "It is imperative that we improve communication with our front line first responders so they are up to date on the latest rules in place regarding COVID-19 for addressing public safety."

Mooney, who said he's hired an attorney and is considering legal action against the city, declined to comment on the apology.

The former state patrol trooper, who now runs a construction company, said officers eventually let him go without issuing a citation.

Mooney said his 6-year-old daughter was scared to see her father placed in handcuffs, but said she learned a valuable lesson.

"She's learned that our constitutional rights are something worth standing up for," Mooney said. "She got to witness a violation of civil rights. She got to witness an unlawful order by the police."

In addition, Mooney said none of the officers were wearing protective gear, although he saw a face mask hanging from an officer's belt.

"They could very simply be asymptomatic, not even know they're sick, and now I've been exposed. My daughter's been exposed; my wife's been exposed," said Mooney.

#6  They demanded ID. He refused. They put him in handcuffs.

We call that tyranny in southern Colorado.

Hell, the two cops in my family that work in towns next to Brighton through this was really stupid and the officers should be written up and given punishment.

#4  #2 My condolences, gorb, but - really?
Posted by: g(r)omgoru || 04/08/2020 13:00 Comments || Top||

#5  The thing is, they are not missing the mark. The heme attack hypothesis explains a lot of the evidence: elevated RBC yet no increase in hamztocrit, ferritin levelse, elevated ALT (liver trying to process all the excess oxidative iron ions), progressive hypoxia despite ventilation, ending in distributed organ failure due to hypoxia even with ECMO, and the apparent effectiveness of hydroxyqinolone (because it protects binding to the heme, not because its "antiviral"). Right now, there is no other hypothesis with physical evidence that fits this profile. All the work so far chasing it down in the lungs may have been following evidence to the wrong conclusion because they missed this evidence with the heme.

Here is the abstract from an actual research paper:

Abstract: The novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) is an infectious acute respiratory infection caused by the novel coronavirus. The virus is a positive-strand RNA virus with high homology to bat coronavirus. In this study, conserved domain analysis, homology modeling, and molecular docking were used to compare the biological roles of certain proteins of the novel coronavirus. The results showed the ORF8 and surface glycoprotein could bind to the porphyrin, respectively. At the same time, orf1ab, ORF10, and ORF3a proteins could coordinate attack the heme on the 1-beta chain of hemoglobin to dissociate the iron to form the porphyrin. The attack will cause less and less hemoglobin that can carry oxygen and carbon dioxide. The lung cells have extremely intense poisoning and inflammatory due to the inability to exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen frequently, which eventually results in ground-glass-like lung images. The mechanism also interfered with the normal heme anabolic pathway of the human body, is expected to result in human disease. According to the validation analysis of these finds, chloroquine could prevent orf1ab, ORF3a, and ORF10 to attack the heme to form the porphyrin, and inhibit the binding of ORF8 and surface glycoproteins to porphyrins to a certain extent, effectively relieve the symptoms of respiratory distress. Favipiravir could inhibit the envelope protein and ORF7a protein bind to porphyrin, prevent the virus from entering host cells, and catching free porphyrins. Because the novel coronavirus is dependent on porphyrins, it may originate from an ancient virus. Therefore, this research is of high value to contemporary biological experiments, disease prevention, and clinical treatment.

#6  What this means is that one mode of treatment would be to transfuse PRBC in an effort to increase the number of properly functioning red blood cells as a stop gap, and administer erythropoietin to increase RBC production. Another possibility is plasmapheresis to try to remove the damaged RBC so they don't crowd out the functioning RBC in the lungs and organs. And of course, administer plaquenil and zinc supplementation to stop the virus from reproducing in addition to limiting binding of the heme group.

This may be the big break that is needed for treatment. The hypothesis seems to fit far more of the observed symptoms that the current model of it being a "lung" disease. It also tracks with the problems found with myocardial tissue damage as well (from the SARS-CoV2 virus that reproduce on the ACE2 receptors in the heart).

Surprisingly (or perhaps not, given his knack for making good decisions on limited data) Trump may have been right all along.

#11  Unable to find the source on this email:

I would have discarded the following if there had been massive COVID-19 outbreaks in Shanghai and Beijing! Either the Chinese forgot to mention them or...........

*SOMETHING IS FISHY!!*

Wuhan to Shanghai = 521 miles
Wuhan to Beijing = 715 miles
Wuhan to Milan = 9,320 miles
Wuhan to NY = 8,210 miles

The Coronavirus started in Wuhan yet there is no effect of Coronavirus in nearby Beijing or Shanghai but many deaths in Italy, Iran, European countries and USA.

All business areas of China are now safe.

*Something is fishy.*

America is not just blaming China without a reason.

Even today, India is locked down but all the cities of China are open. China has also announced the opening of Wuhan from April 08. Not a single leader in China has tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus.

*Something is fishy.*

The virus has ruined many economies around the world. Many have had to close their borders in an attempt to contain and control the spread of the Coronavirus. Thousands have lost their lives, millions have now got this disease, countless people have been locked in their homes and many countries have placed their citizens on lock down.

*Something is fishy.*

The Coronavirus orginated from the city of Wuhan in China and has now reached every corner of the world, but the virus did not reach China's capital Beijing and China's Economic Capital Shanghai, located in close proximity to Wuhan itself.

*Something is fishy*

Today Paris is closed, New York is closed, Berlin is closed, Delhi is closed, Mumbai is closed, Tokyo is closed, the world's major economic and political centers are closed, but Beijing and Shanghai are open. No Coronavirus effect is seen in either cities. There were only a few cases but the virus had no real effect on Beijing and Shanghai.

*Something is fishy.*

Beijing is the city where all the leaders of China live, including their military leaders. There is no lock down in Beijing.

*Something is fishy*

Shanghai is the city that runs China's economy. It is the economic capital of China, where all the rich people of China live and run major industries. There is no lock down here, there is no effect of the Coronavirus there.

*Something is fishy*

Beijing and Shanghai are the areas adjoining Wuhan. The virus from Wuhan reached every corner of the world, but the virus did not affect Beijing and Shanghai.

*Something is fishy*

Another big thing is, that the worldwide share market has fallen by almost half. In India also the Nifty has gone from 12 thousand to 7 thousand, but the share market of China was at 3000 and just merely dropped to 2700.

*Something is fishy*

This leaves one to speculate that the Coronavirus is a bio-chemical weapon of China, which China used to carry out destruction in the world in order to gain economic supremacy.

China has now put this virus under control, maybe they also have the antidote/ vaccine that they are not sharing with the world ever or will do when it is in their best interest to do so.

*Something is fishy*

Hollywood stars, Australia's Home Minister, Britain's Prime Minister and Health Minister, Spain's Prime Minister's wife, Canada's Prime Minister's wife, and Britain's Prince Charles, among others, have contracted the Coronavirus, but NOT A SINGLE POLITICAL LEADER IN CHINA, NOT A SINGLE MILITARY COMMANDER in China have tested positive for Coronavirus.

*SOMETHING IS FISHY!!!!*

#17  I'm unclear why grom is negative about the paper COVID-19: Attacks the 1-Beta Chain of Hemoglobin and Captures the Porphyrin to Inhibit Human Heme Metabolism.

I found it an interesting application of computational biology to the COVID-2019 disease. To quote the summary:

orf1ab, ORF10, and ORF3a proteins could coordinate attack the heme on the 1-beta chain of hemoglobin to dissociate the iron to form the porphyrin. The attack will lead to less hemoglobin to carry oxygen and carbon dioxide. The lung cells have extremely intense inflammation due to the inability to exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen frequently, which eventually results in ground-glass-like lung images. Patients with respiratory distress will be made worse. Diabetic patients and older people have higher glycated hemoglobin. Glycated hemoglobin was reduced by the attack, which made patients' blood sugar unstable. Since the porphyrin complexes of the virus produced in the human body inhibited the heme anabolic pathway, they caused a wide range of infection and disease.

With these findings in mind, further analysis revealed that chloroquine could prevent orf1ab, ORF3a, and ORF10 from attacking the heme to form the porphyrin, and inhibit the binding of ORF8 and surface glycoproteins to porphyrins to a certain extent, effectively relieve the symptoms of respiratory distress. Favipiravir could inhibit the envelope protein and ORF7a protein bind to porphyrin, prevent the virus from entering host cells, and catching free porphyrins. Because the novel coronavirus is dependent on porphyrins, it may originate from an ancient virus. Given the current epidemic, it is believed the results of this study are of high value in preventing the spread of novel coronavirus pneumonia, developing drugs and vaccines, and clinical treatment.

Bernie Sanders Drops Out Of Democratic Presidential Race
[Daily Caller] Slow Joe the paste-eating moron is it
Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders dropped out of the presidential race Wednesday after a disappointing showing in numerous primaries and coronavirus concerns keeping him off of the campaign trail.

The news comes after Sanders continued to lose primaries to former Vice President Joe Biden. Among the losses was Michigan, a state he won in 2016. Biden also easily won Mississippi and Missouri and came up big during Super Tuesday.

The former vice president’s winning streak continued March 17 as he took all three primary wins in Florida, Illinois and Arizona. Ohio was supposed to be on the list, but was one of four states to postpone its primary over fears of the novel coronavirus.

Sanders’ campaign previously announced that he would be taking a second look at his campaign. He had vowed to stay in the race, although Sanders added that he would back Biden if the former VP became the nominee.

The novel coronavirus fear has kept candidates off the campaign trail as states and government officials are enforcing “social distancing” guidelines. Both candidates are in the age group where the novel coronavirus could seriously affect their health.

#7  If he's holding on to his delegates then Trump's odds of re-election have increased further.

Biden is screwed. He cannot simultaneously appease the Reagan Trump-leaning Democrats in PA WI and MI and appeal to the SJWs and identity politics crowd.

Gain one and he sacrifices the other: if he picks Andrew Cuomo as VP, a large number of SJWs will stay home. If he picks someone like Harris or Warren then he repels the Trump Democrats.

I'd bet he takes the Geraldine Ferraro option: a suitably PC female nobody who offends no one and excites no one. Someone like the idiot governor of Michigan.

Bad times for Dems. Trump's odds keep rising, and they don't even see it.

#9  From Wikipedia
The side grip has been portrayed in movies since at least the 1960s, notably in the westerns One-Eyed Jacks (1961) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966).[1] The style's cinematic benefit is that it makes it easier to see both the weapon and the actor's face in a tight camera shot.[1]

The side grip was highly popularized with the 1993 American hood film, Menace II Society, where this technique is shown in the film's opening scene during the armed robbery of a Los Angeles, California convenience store.[4][1]

What's worse is that India's regulations prevented the Union Carbide head office from supervising or disciplining local staff, while making UC responsible for their foibles. There was a long series of articles in the Wall Street Journal documenting this. This, along with Nokia's and Enron's catastrophic ventures there, are why foreign investors that aren't interested specifically in entering the fairly small Indian market don't make anything there. And if they make anything there, it's usually exclusively for the Indian market. Because, as Nokia found out to its cost, the Indian government will attempt to seize a chunk of your profits from exports to other markets. For Nokia, its Indian venture wasn't simply a complete loss (to zero) of everything it invested there, it ended up paying hundreds of millions of dollars to the Indian government.

India's per capita income is at African levels for a reason - its government has near-African levels of corruption, without African levels of mineral resources. If not for the talent of its people, India would be going through famine after famine.

US appeals court rules in favor of Trump's plan to resume executions
Multi-tasking.
[Jpost] The Trump administration's effort to resume federal executions got a boost on Tuesday from a U.S. appeals court, which tossed a district judge's injunction that blocked four death penalty
sentences from being carried out.
The 2-1 ruling by a three judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit could pave the way to the Justice Department carrying out the first execution of federal death row inmates since 2003, although other issues remain to be litigated.

The two judges in the majority, Greg Katsas and Neomi Rao, were both appointed to the bench by Republican President Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
. The dissenting judge, David Tatel, was appointed by Democratic President Bill Clinton
...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of the word is...
The court concluded that U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan was wrong to find in her November ruling that a law called the Federal Death Penalty Act requires the federal government to follow all execution protocols in the state where the execution is set to take place. The two judges in the majority differed on what aspects of state rules the federal government have to follow.

The judges left unresolved separate claims brought under different federal laws, which the district judge will now address when the case returns to her.

In December, the Supreme Court rejected a Trump administration request to intervene in the case at an early stage to allow the executions to proceed.

Most executions in the United States have been carried out by states rather than the federal government, which has been hindered by protracted litigation over the drugs used in lethal injection executions.

The inmates scheduled for execution by lethal injection all were convicted in federal courts of murder. They are Daniel Lee, Wesley Purkey, Alfred Bourgeois and Dustin Honken.

Landlord Mario Salerno Gives Nearly 200 Struggling NYC Tenants Free Rent
[RedState] I’ve previously touched on the good deeds being done in light of the nation’s viral crisis, and here’s a great one.

In Brooklyn, amid business closures, layoffs, and reduced hours, a landlord is waiving rent for his tenants for the entire month of April.

Speaking with EWTN News Nightly’s Colm Flynn, Mario Salerno talked about his decision to give a free month’s stay to approximately 200 people.

Here’s what he had to say:

“I told them not to worry, not to panic. We’re going through some very tough times with this monster disease. I would waive all the rent for the month of April.”

#4  Most landlords have mortgages to pay, Seeking Cure

And I'm one of them. Do you know what it's like to have a 'professional tenant' (i.e., someone who knows they can legally live somewhere and not pay rent for six+ months before I can evict her by the book)? Between that, legal & constable fees and the additional $2K plus I had to spend because they trashed the place on the way out, not to mention all the time I spent repairing the place with a leg I could barely stand on, it caused so much stress it was a primary factor in my heart attack last August.

In the end, I'm out about $17K and almost died from it. That's why not every landlord can or will do that.

Man Allegedly Spits and Coughs on Supermarket Produce, Gets Punched in the Face and Tackled
[Red State] - It’s a crazy time, and some weird things are happening at the supermarket.

Case in point: In Kingston, Massachusetts, a 65-year-old man was accused of coughing and spitting on produce.

...the "extremely aggressive" shopper tried to hit the employee.

Subsequently, he said, the employee punched the dude in the face.

Soon after, the guy was "tackled by a group of bystanders."

In the video, multiple men are pinning the suspect, facedown. One of them shouts, "Don’t try and get up!"

Time to put China on lockdown for its dishonesty amid coronavirus crisis
[USA Today] There are many lessons to be learned from the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. But one is already clear: China needs to be isolated from the civilized world until its behavior improves. We are in the current situation, with deaths and economic devastation worldwide, because China handled this outbreak with its trademark mixture of dishonesty, incompetence and thuggery. Were China a more civilized nation, this outbreak would have been stopped early, and with far less harm, inside and outside of China.

As Marion Smith wrote in these pages on Sunday, China’s first response was to clamp down on reports of the then-new disease that had appeared in Wuhan. The brave doctor, Li Wenliang, who first reported the disease to fellow physicians was silenced by police. Chinese media reports of the disease were censored by the government. So were ordinary citizens reporting on social media.

Coronavirus coverup

According to U.S. intelligence agencies, China systematically deceived the world about the extent of the outbreak, lulling other nations into a false sense of security that delayed a response by weeks or even months.

As Smith writes: "Beijing denied until Jan. 20 that human to human transmission was occurring. Yet at the same time, Chinese officials and state-owned companies were urgently acquiring bulk medical supplies ‐ especially personal protective equipment like masks and gloves ‐ from Australia, Europe, and around the world. Put simply, Beijing hoarded the world’s life-saving resources while falsely claiming that people’s lives weren’t at risk."

Marion Smith:Blame the Chinese Communist Party for the coronavirus crisis

And this is the most charitable account, based on China failing to deal with what was, at root, a naturally occurring disease outbreak. And it may have been naturally occurring. But people are increasingly entertaining the possibility that the COVID-19 virus was accidentally released by a Chinese virology lab in Wuhan.

That notion was once dismissed as a conspiracy theory, but it has since been discussed in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists and by uber-establishment Washington Post columnist David Ignatius. The talk is of an accidental release, not the deliberate deployment of a biological weapon ‐ which makes sense, since few nations would release a bioweapon in their own heartland ‐ but if it’s true it only makes the Chinese government look worse, though it perhaps explains their unwillingness to be forthcoming.

Africa North
Red Sea Diving Resort: The holiday village run by spies
[BBC] Arous was an idyllic holiday resort in the Sudanese desert, on the shores of the Red Sea. But this glamorous destination was also a base for Israeli agents with a secret mission. The events inspired a newly released Netflix film, Red Sea Diving Resort - and the real story is in many ways more remarkable.

"Arous on the Red Sea, a wonderful world apart," the glossy brochure says, pronouncing it "the diving and desert recreation centre of Sudan".

Illustrated with pictures of putty-coloured chalets on a sun-drenched beach, a smiling couple in scuba gear, and varieties of exotic fish, the advertisement boasts of "some of the best, clearest water in the world". As night falls - "after the landscape colours have paled" - there are, it says, "breathtaking views of the heavens, aflame with millions of stars".

Arous Village, on the fringe of spectacular coral reefs and the odd shipwreck, appears to be a diving enthusiast's dream.

The pamphlets were printed in their thousands and distributed in specialist travel agents across Europe. Reservations were booked through offices in Geneva and Khartoum. And over time hundreds of guests went on holiday there.

It was a long trek. But once at the desert oasis, they enjoyed first-rate facilities, water sports, deep-sea dives and an abundance of fresh food and wine. The visitors' book was a catalogue of glowing comments.

BlackBerry uncovers China-backed hacking campaign
Golly — they’ve just been attacking on all fronts for years!
[Kitchener.ctvnews] BlackBerry Ltd. says it has uncovered how China-backed hackers have been able to extract data from many of the world's servers for a decade without being noticed.
Not noticed or just not named, shamed, and punished?
BlackBerry executive Eric Cornelius says the hackers have been skilful in disguising some of their software tools to appear like advertising software that poses a low-level security risk.

Cornelius says the tactics give the hackers the ability to extract information from huge amounts of valuable data on web servers using the Linux operating system.

He says the hacker tools aren't new but were mostly overlooked because most cybersecurity efforts are focused on mass market operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and Google Android.

BlackBerry says in a 44-page report that five separate groups with links to the Chinese government have been targeting Linux systems for a decade.

The federal government's Canadian Centre for Cyber Security says it works with partners to monitor and deal with potential threats but it doesn't comment on specific incidents.

COVID-19 stops the unstoppable - Foggy Bottom suspends H-1B program
[Breitbart] The State Department’s temporary suspension of visa processing has stopped the inflow of H-1B foreign visa workers into American white-collar jobs while the Chinese coronavirus crisis drives up United States jobless claims to more than ten million.

In a given year, more than 100,000 foreign workers are brought to the U.S. on the H-1B visa and are allowed to stay for up to six years. There are about 650,000 H-1B visa foreign workers in the U.S. at any given moment.

Americans are often laid off in the process and forced to train their foreign replacements, as highlighted by Breitbart News. More than 85,000 Americans annually potentially lose their jobs to foreign labor through the H-1B visa program.

On March 20, the State Department issued a memo announcing that U.S. embassies and consulates would cancel routine visa processing. The memo means thousands of H-1B visas that would have usually been issued to primarily Indian male nationals have been halted, at least temporarily.

"In response to significant worldwide challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of State is temporarily suspending routine visa services at all U.S. Embassies and Consulates," the memo notes.

If we need to bring them in to fulfill an economic need that our labor market cannot fill, then give them a green card so they are not slaves to their H1B sponsor. This makes them an equal footing with citizen engineers in terms of salary negotiation and the ability to walk away to a competitor. And if they cannot make the requirements of a green card, then we dont want them here anyway.

#11  The program was always and ever a ruse to try to cap the rise in skilled engineers' compensation in this country. It's a major reason for the extraordinarily high operating margins in the software industry and thus a major source of the unbelievably large fortunes of that industry's leaders, especially Gates and his ilk.

I worked on a group that used a corrupt circle of officials, back in 2011 to get Pakistanis and Indians into America. They exploited the H visas to get things in that were so dangerous if word got out, people would lynch those officials themselves.

The FBI ultimately arrested those officials, but Gawd knows what became of the fuckers they had already gotten in. Their clientele were usually rich landowners from the Punjab regions, relatives of Pak government officers rejected once, brides for people they'd sent earlier, etc. Occasionally they would insert the radicalized and recruiter type individual, posing as students and 'scholars'. They even had a scheme of routing them in from the UK.

I think either accounts of everyone connected to the H-1 visa process should be periodically evaluated, or it should be shut down completely. There is no dearth of jobs in Asia, for people who want to work. It's the leeches usually that exploit these systems and end up as fuel for the Liberal machine in universities and politics.

Rep. Lance Gooden: Allow DOJ to Investigate China for Coronavirus Bioweapon
[Breitbart] Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) joined Tuesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow to discuss his proposed legislation to allow the Department of Justice to investigate China for potential release of a biological weapon reaching American soil.

Entitled the "Stop COVID Act to Hold China Accountable for Coronavirus Pandemic," Gooden’s proposed bill would amend the Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act to allow the Justice Department to investigate the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. The legislation would also grant jurisdiction to U.S. courts over the matter, allowing the Justice Department to file claims against the Chinese Communist Party in America.

Gooden explained, "The bill that I filed on Friday amends the Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act, which was passed in the 1970s that said you can’t sue a foreign government [and] can’t investigate a foreign government in American courts. This says with exception to bioweapons potentially being released that we can actually investigate ‐ the DOJ can investigate the origins of this virus ‐ and if it’s China that’s responsible for getting it here, then we’ll deal with that."

Gooden continued, "If it’s an accident and China is not at fault, maybe this really just was some freak nature event ‐ unlikely, but maybe it was ‐ then China still lied to us since day one about the deaths. We were underprepared, because China didn’t communicate how serious this was, and even last week they admitted that the death counts were off."

Trump signs executive order to support moon mining, tap asteroid resources
Space.com via Instapundit
The water ice and other lunar resources that will help the United States establish a long-term human presence on the moon are there for the taking, the White House believes.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order today (April 6) establishing U.S. policy on the exploitation of off-Earth resources. That policy stresses that the current regulatory regime ‐ notably, the 1967 Outer Space Treaty ‐ allows the use of such resources.

This view has long held sway in U.S. government circles. For example, the United States, like the other major spacefaring nations, has not signed the 1979 Moon Treaty, which stipulates that non-scientific use of space resources be governed by an international regulatory framework. And in 2015, Congress passed a law explicitly allowing American companies and citizens to use moon and asteroid resources.

The new executive order makes things even more official, stressing that the United States does not view space as a "global commons" and sees a clear path to off-Earth mining, without the need for further international treaty-level agreements.

Wuhan, China body bags twitching, screaming heard from furnaces
[Breitbart] Locals in Wuhan, where the Chinese coronavirus pandemic originated, have heard screams coming from funeral home furnaces, and some treated in hospitals say they saw workers put living coronavirus patients in body bags, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported on Monday.

RFA noted that it could not independently verify that the Chinese Communist Party was burning coronavirus patients alive, nor has the Communist Party confirmed or denied the rumors. Yet the rumors persist that, to make room for new patients in Wuhan’s overcrowded hospitals, medical staff chose older patients less likely to survive the infection and shipped them to incinerators while they were still alive and conscious.

RFA quoted a source "close to the funeral industry" identified only as Ma who said that he had heard reports of "people restrained and forced into body bags when they were still moving."

"Some people are saying that ... there are video clips of screams coming from funeral homes, from inside the furnaces ... which tells us that some people were taken to the funeral homes while they were still alive," Ma added.

Ma also noted the existence of video testimony from an anonymous older woman who had been treated at a Wuhan hospital, presumably for Chinese coronavirus.

"One old lady was saying that they put one guy into ... a body bag when he wasn’t even dead yet, and took him off to the crematorium because there was no way of saving him," Ma told RFA.

Battle of Karbala October 10, 680 AD, brief military engagement in which a small party led by the grandson of the pedophile for profit Muhammad, al-Husayn ibn Ali, was defeated and massacred like the dog he was by an Umayyad army. The battle helped secure the position of the Umayyad dynasty and septic tank rights, but it is commemorated annually in an unholy day of public mourning by Shi'a Muslims. No humans were killed in the battle.

Progressive lawmakers keep feeding ‘the crime virus’
[NYPOST] No less an authority than former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton warns that the Legislature’s failure to truly fix last year’s botched criminal-justice reforms has set the city up for big trouble when the COVID-19 threat recedes.

"As we finally get rid of one virus, there’s going to be a second virus created by the Legislature, which is gonna be the crime virus," he said Sunday.

As the top cop who began New York City’s decades-long success in driving down crime, and then returned to keep the miracle going under lefty Mayor Bill de Blasio
...cryptocommie mayor of New York and for some reason a Dem candidate for president in 2020. Corrupt and incompetent, his qualifications for office seem to consist of being married to a black woman, with whom he honeymooned in Cuba. He has a preppy-looking son named Dante, whose Divine Comedy involved getting his back hair up when a police car drove past him slowly. New Yorkers voted for him, so they deserve him...
, Bratton deserves a listen. If the Legislature’s leaders refuse to listen, maybe the voters will.

Bratton didn’t mince words: State politicians, he said, "put so much garbage in, they basically generate a lot of garbage coming out, and that reform package coming out is more of the same."

Bratton also slammed de Blasio’s drive to dump dangerous Rikers Island detainees onto city streets amid the pandemic, echoing the worries of all five city district attorneys. Some compassionate releases make sense ‐ but, as the DAs put it, "the city’s jail system is capable of appropriately managing the health needs of the remaining inmates."

Many inmates are homeless or accused of domestic violence: If released, where do they go ‐ and how does it improve safety?

-Land of the Free
Covid-19: Security implications
It’s what we think about here at Rantburg, after all.
[American Thinker] Assuming that the explanations coming from the Chinese government have no credibility, the true origins of COVID-19 are not yet known. This has encouraged a great deal of online idle speculation, including conspiracy theories ranging in terms of Chinese deception from low to high:

(1) tainted "wet market" bat meat;
(2) tainted "wet market" bat meat originating from the Wuhan Institute of Virology;
(3) a laboratory accident,
(4) an intentionally concealed laboratory accident;
(5) a bioterror attack by a rogue individual; and
(6) intentional bioterror attack by a belligerent regime.

Not knowing whether this event is a zero-level national security threat versus a high-level national security threat is a direct function of our not having sufficient information, the blame for which can be firmly placed on the Chinese government and its failure to provide critical information at critically important times.
True, but at a deeper level we have all sorts of spies and analysts to figure out all the things the other side says that aren’t fully true or are completely false.
This lack of credibility is alarming because there is a direct inverse relationship between Chinese credibility and the conspiracy theory continuum, such that the lower the credibility of the Chinese government, the greater the likelihood that the true origin of the virus is higher on the continuum.
I’m confused.
As tempting as it might be to join the chorus of idle speculation and conspiracies (what is the internet for, after all?), there are some things that are known about COVID-19 and potential bioterror attacks, and so far there has not been much discussion of these things, most of which have very serious national security implications. Here are two points worth considering.

First,
even if this pandemic was not intentional, it could have been. In other words, China and a lot of other bad actors have the capability of unleashing a pandemic of this nature upon the earth, and it is a threat the USA is clearly unprepared for.
Less unprepared than we were before, whereas China stands awfully revealed... and no one will unsee any of fhat.
This is an existential threat that cannot be dealt with by increasing the number of aircraft carriers or fighter jets. As the daily pressers reveal the horrific numbers of new cases and deaths, it is very clear how unprepared government at all levels was to deal with this particular threat.
Not just the government, but pretty much the entire world.
This raises very serious questions about the national defense system up and down the line, beginning with intelligence agencies’ inability to properly assess the level of threat, to its preparedness in dealing with the threat once it became apparent it was coming to our shores.

Secondly,
even if the unleashing of COVID-19 was not intentional, the Chinese and other potential enemies have now seen how the U.S. government would react to a bioterror attack, and they have learned that the decision-makers will default on the side of short-term humanitarian concerns, sacrificing long-term damage to our economy and the freedoms that are the bedrock of our civilization. This means that the response will catalyze any future attack because the decision apparatus will destroy itself and wipe out the sources of its advantage as the world’s only superpower. Enemy knowledge of this response increases the likelihood that there will be an intentional bioterror attack in the future.

If the number of dead Americans from coronavirus turns out to be 200K, a number that many are skeptical of, then the percentage of Americans dead from the pandemic will be .057 percent of the total population. Will someone in the mainstream media at least consider whether closing the economy down and compromising our way of life is worth the price of .057 percent of the population?

If someone says, "if it saves one life to lose the economy, it's worth it," that person needs to be flogged. As callous as it sounds, the calculation needs to be made, not in terms of dollars, but in terms of lives. How many lives is the government willing to trade for having a professional sports industry, a restaurant industry, an airline industry, or a manufacturer of air defense weapons? The answer to that question is not zero. It never has been.

A leader who is willing to make this calculation is not a profile in callousness, as the media would suggest, but a profile in courage.

This is not to say that the U.S. government and state governments should not have taken prudent measures. But it is very clear the cost/benefit to all of this was not adequately anticipated. Government at all levels may well be cutting off the right arm when it could have gotten by with losing a few fingers.

Remember that "flattening the curve" does not mean fewer people get the virus. It means the period over which people get the virus will be stretched out to a longer period of time. Paradoxically, the flatter the curve the more damage is intentionally inflicted to the economy.

If the United States of America looks like Venezuela a year or two from now, people are not going to feel better knowing a few thousand people had access to ventilators. The cost to the USA becoming Venezuela -- including in terms of the loss of human life -- will far surpass the loss of lives from lack of ventilators.

It is apparent President Trump sees this clearly, but the political pressure is just too great. He cannot buck the medical experts because every subsequent death will be blamed on him. From a political standpoint, he is doing what he has to for political survival.

But his instincts on this are right.

#6  Excellent analysis.

This episode represents an opportunistic, real-time simulation of a bioweapons attack and US response.

The ChiComs now have an extraordinarily rich set of data regarding how every US institution, political figure, and social segment will behave in the event of a bio-attack by China. Now they understand that:

1) a large number of leading Democratic US political figures and media outlets will act as apologists for China and rush to blame their American rivals -- Trump today and Cruz or Haley or whoever tomorrow;

2) American federalism and openness can be exploited easily to whip up fear, uncertainty and panic

3) there is a deep cleft that may be exploited between the US public health apparat and US corporate and financial leaders

4) US naval officers and brass are vulnerable to panic, rash actions, open backbiting and dissension

5) finally, ordinary Americans themselves, as opposed to the above leaders, are a people of tenacity, courage and good sense. They represent the greatest threat to any Chinese strategy and must be neutralized through propaganda and cultivation of elite stooges. Rev up Operation Rosemont Capital.

"This lack of credibility is alarming because there is a direct inverse relationship between Chinese credibility and the conspiracy theory continuum, such that the lower the credibility of the Chinese government, the greater the likelihood that the true origin of the virus is higher on the continuum."

I think the author is pointing out the ironic relationship between Chinese lies and Chinese wickedness. IOW, the more deceptively the. Binese behave, the more likely it is that the origins of the virus were not deliberate.

Seems very astute: the Chinese would rather be called malevolent than stupid and incompetent. The former only enhances the Party's mystique; the latter rips it away.

#8  One must always at least consider the worst case scenario. When the question is asked: Are the commie bastards capable of such a thing? I think the answer is yes.

If so, it would be no surprise that they did it in a typical Chinese chickenshit manner to claim plausible deniability. It was not an upfront, in your face assault that would mean all out war but an underhanded, weaselly move. Then they try to blame us.

But it doesn't matter which option you choose. We already have enough evidence against them on other fronts: the cyber attacks, the theft of intellectual property, the confrontational behavior in the South China Sea, the support for nuclear armed puppets like North Korea and Pakistan, their refusal to accept products from other countries while dumping their crap that is produced with slave labor, their violations of human rights and their disregard for the environment.

We need to start treating China like the enemy it is, like we treated the old Soviet Union.

#14  Whether countries learn from it or not. It has changed our world forever. Those that will factor in the lessons learned will emerge stabler economies and societies for sure.

The Left has been dealt an unseen blow too. The power of ill-educated mobs mistaking thuggery for democracy has been de-legitimized and exposed for the danger it can pose. I'll bet a number of 'liberals' and borderline globalists are re-evaluating their philosophies.

China will shamelessly try to press on, buoyed by some Asian and African countries, and profit-hungry people in the west, only for some time. And there will come curbs on the Democrat supporting business owners. China's credibility and worthiness will be eroded over time. Commercial entities may shift gradually, but they will shift to intermediate and finished goods manufacturers elsewhere. I suspect new standards of production and some fear of toxicity will eventually factor in automatically from the end-user bases.

But the strongest blow has been dealt to forces seeking to dissolve borders, marry diversity to justice and culture to value. The power of tropes and mass psychological effects today cannot be overstated. This whole exotic foods and commie 'Wuhan gone Raccoon City' thing; the initial unwillingness and ineptitude of liberal administrations in controlling the Chinese Plague, everything will color the choices of even the most conformist of peoples. The implicit image of modernized, yet somehow savage Asian communities callously playing scientist and bringing to the shores of their consumers death swilled in their shanties, will not be dissolved with all the Liberal PR and shiny plastic in the world.

While tightening the fence wires, locking down the barn doors, restructuring our protocols - we must take advantage of the mass mortal implications of the situation and effect an 'attitude reformation' toward the security profile of our nations.

Folks question why Fauci cheered using drug for MERS coronavirus in 2013… but now he's skeptical
[BizPacReview] It’s been found that seven years ago, Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed that he was encouraged by lab tests involving a combination of drugs that included hydroxychloroquine in antiviral experiments on a SARS-like coronavirus that had emerged at the time. Some observers are seeing that as puzzling.

Fauci, NIAID director and current Coronavirus Task Force rock star, has long been widely looked to as the nation’s ultimate authority on infectious diseases. As such, his record and history of public comments are especially subject to scrutiny and critiques at a time such as the current societal upheaval sweeping the globe.

An ongoing point of contention being amplified by the media is Fauci’s cautious present-day perspective on the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19, while so many others are eager to embrace the encouraging indicators of its potential effectiveness against today’s novel coronavirus.

The Fox News hosts directed Fauci's attention to a recent Sermo poll of more than 6000 physicians in 30 countries in which 37 percent rated HCQ as the "most effective therapy" in treating the novel coronavirus.

"We don't operate on how you ‘feel,'" Fauci commented, pointing out that the survey measured feelings or opinions. "We operate on what evidence is and data is."

"Fox & Friends" also played a clip of Dr. Mehmet Cengiz Öz directly asking for Fauci's thoughts about HCQ's promise as suggested in a "Chinese study from Wuhan, reflecting statistically significant improvement in recovering from fever, from cough, and from pneumonia as well."

"That was not a very robust study," Fauci replied. "It is still possible that there is a beneficial effect, but the study that was just quoted, on a scale of strength of evidence, that's not overwhelmingly strong. It's an indication, a hint of it."

He added: "So although there is some suggestion that there is a benefit there, I think we've got to be careful that we don't make that majestic leap to assume that this is a knockout drug. We still need to do the kinds of studies that definitively prove that any intervention, not just this one, but any intervention is truly safe and effective."

"But when you don't have that information," the doctor added, "it's understandable, and I grant that … it's understandable why people may want to take something anyway, even with the slightest hint of it being effective, and I have no problem with that."

The 79-year-old Fauci has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984, having served under six U.S. presidents, beginning with Ronald Reagan.

Trump removes Obama-era IG from Covid-19 relief watchdog panel as Dems cry corruption
[RT] US President Donald Trump has dismissed the Pentagon's inspector general from the top watchdog role over the $2 trillion coronavirus relief bill. Opinions were split on whether it was "cleaning house" or "blatant corruption."
How someone will vote in November can be predicted by which way they fall on this question, with 100% surety.
The president removed Glenn Fine as the Pentagon's Inspector General, by extension booting him from the top oversight post on the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee, on Monday. The committee, created to oversee the administration of the $2 trillion aid package signed into law last month, is made up of inspector generals who, in turn, had appointed Fine to lead them.

Fine, a holdover from the Obama administration, is the second inspector general to be shown the door in a week. The president fired Michael Atkinson, the Inspector General for the Intelligence Community who handled the whistleblower complaint that led to Trump’s impeachment, on Friday, noting in a letter to the heads of the Senate Intelligence Committee that it was "vital" that the president have the "fullest confidence" in the IG serving in that position. Post-impeachment ‐ a shambolic procedure that almost certainly impeded the administration's timely response to the coronavirus epidemic ‐ "that is no longer the case," Trump concluded, defending the decision on Saturday by referring to the now-unemployed watchdog as a "disgrace."

Politico and others have speculated Health and Human Services IG Christi Grimm is next on the chopping block, after Trump called her office's report criticizing testing delays and "severe" hospital supply shortages "another Fake Dossier," and highlighted her history with the Obama administration; specifically the "failed H1N1 Swine Flu debacle where 17,000 people died."
Interestingly enough, RT was the only major "news" outlet that reported his Barry Bin Obama ties
The media is already circling the wagons around Christi Grimm ‐ which tells you everything.
Russia is just happy to stir the pot at this point. Not that they have to do anything, when our Progressives are doing just fine all by themselves.

Pakistan Scrambles to Quarantine 100,000 Who Attended Tablighi Jamaat Event
[BREITBART] Pakistain has quarantined 20,000 attendees of an Islamic gathering in Lahore last month and is still searching for tens of thousands more, officials said on Sunday.

Over 100,000 worshippers congregated at the event, defying government orders to call off the gathering amid coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
fears.

Pakistain’s science minister, Fawad Chaudhry, reportedly expressed exasperation that the event had been held as planned. He blamed the "stubbornness of the clergy" for dismissing official orders to halt the large gathering. Organizers claimed to have cut the event short following advice from the authorities; however, at the time of the event, they said it was due to inclement weather.

The meeting took place between March 10-12 in Lahore, Pakistain’s capital. It was organized by Tablighi Jamaat
A peaceful group of itinerant Deobandi preachers who form one of al-Qaeda's recruiting arms...
, a global "Islamic missionary movement" with millions of followers, especially in South Asia. The far-reaching Sunni group promotes proselytizing, known as dakwah.

So far, officials have confirmed that at least 145 people were infected with the Chinese coronavirus from the event in March; two people have died. Authorities hope to test or quarantine attendees.

People from China, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Afghanistan also attended, which has resulted in about 1,500 foreigners now being quarantined in Pakistain. Others left the country without being tested.

In March, Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
’s health ministry confirmed that its first two cases of coronavirus were Paleostinians who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat gathering in Lahore.

Similar Tablighi Jamaat events held in Malaysia and India during the coronavirus pandemic have been blamed for spreading the coronavirus to other regions.

At press time on Monday, Pakistain had reported 3,766 infections and 53 deaths from the Chinese coronavirus.

Biden’s offer to help coronavirus efforts making governors’ jobs ‘difficult’
[NYPOST] In the early hours of Monday morning, Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'...
’s campaign sent an email to state leaders offering to connect them with desperately needed coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
resources.

But at least two Republican states believe they never got the email, while one governor’s office said the campaign’s efforts to insert themselves in the pandemic was only making their jobs harder.

In the email obtained by The Post, Biden’s political chief of staff Stacy Eichner told state officials that the former veep’s presidential campaign had received a "significant number of offers" from organizations and people eager to offer resources.

"In this moment of national emergency, we are eager to connect those offering help with those in need of it ‐ we would like to provide these individuals and organizations with a way to reach your offices directly," Eichner wrote, asking each office to assign a contact person if they were interested.

But a senior adviser in one governor’s office who received the email said the Biden campaign was making their jobs "really difficult" by operating outside of the federal process and by refusing to engage with the administration’s efforts.

"It actually makes our job harder. We have a process in place for deploying and acquiring resources, as well as engaging in missions," the source said.

"Having a group operating outside of that process complicates things and smells of cronyism," he added.

The pandemic ‘sugar pill' hospital executives sold the Trump administration in 2018
[JustTheNews] In a survey released 18 months ago, 86 percent of hospital administrators reported they were prepared for an infectious outbreak. They were not.

As a new flu season was approaching in fall 2018, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services inspector general issued a report telling the Trump administration there was good news on the pandemic front: Long-struggling hospitals had fortified their preparedness for an infectious disease outbreak.

Just a few short years after 71% of American hospital executives warned they were ill-prepared for a disease outbreak like the 2014 Ebola virus, 86% were reporting they were prepared and ready, the department’s inspector general declared.

Coronavirus Roundup: Pastor who decried 'hysteria' dies after attending Mardi Gras

[NEWS.YAHOO] Pastor Landon Spradlin wasn't worried about coronavirus (aka COVID19 or coronavirusChinese Plague)

when he went to New Orleans to preach during Mardi Gras. A month later he was dead.

"He loved to laugh. He loved to play guitar. He played guitar even when he wasn't supposed to," says Jesse Spradlin of her father, Landon.

"He was just the best man in the world."

One day when this is all over, the wife and five children of Pastor Landon Spradlin hope to hold a large celebratory memorial for him.

For now they have had to make do with a funeral at which there were just a handful in attendance, including the blues guitarist who played at the graveside.

A little over a month ago, Pastor Spradlin, who was 66, drove with his wife Jean the 900 miles (1500 km) from their home in Virginia to Louisiana for Mardi Gras.

He viewed the festivities as an opportunity, through music, to save the souls of some of the hundreds of thousands of people that would attend.

He was joined by two of his daughters who came over from Texas.

'A lot of pain.'NY has biggest 1-day jump in virus deaths
[APNEWS] New York state reported 731 new COVID-19 deaths Tuesday, its biggest jump since the start of the outbreak, dampening some of the cautious optimism officials have expressed about efforts to stop the spread of the virus.

The state’s corpse count grew to 5,489.

The alarming surge in deaths comes as new hospital admissions have dropped on average over several days, a possible harbinger of the outbreak finally leveling off. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the death tally is a "lagging indicator" that reflects the loss of critically ill people hospitalized earlier.

pandemic, amid experts' warnings that its use for COVID-19 is risky and unproven.

Federal contracting records show the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Bureau of Prisons have placed emergency orders for more than $250,000 of hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets from private suppliers over the last two weeks, with both agencies apparently planning to use the drug to treat COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

were among men, and 86% of all deaths were among people who had underlying illnesses, such as hypertension and diabetes, new state data shows.

The statistics released late Monday offered the latest glimpse into how the rapidly spreading virus has impacted New York and made it the epicenter for COVID-19 in the nation.

Of the 4,758 deaths in New York since the first on March 14, 61% were men and 39% were women, the state Department of Health reported on its new data portal.

In addition, 63% of the deaths were among those age 70 and older, while 7% of the cases were those 49 and younger.

And 4,089 of those who died had at least one other chronic disease, the records showed:
  • The leading underlying illness was hypertension, which showed up in 55% of the deaths.

  • Next was diabetes, which was diagnosed in 1,755 deaths, or about 37% of the cases.

  • Other top illnesses found in those who died from coronavirus were hyperlipidemia; coronary artery disease; renal disease and dementia.

Authorities announced that as of Monday, Sweden, which has a population of 10.2 million and has pursued a light-touch approach to lockdown so far, has a total of 7,206 confirmed coronavirus cases and 477 deaths. As a result, the government is preparing to increase its own power to potentially lock down the country later this month.

Social Minister Lena Hallengren of the Social Democrats stated that the current legislation under the Infection Protection Act does not give the government sufficient power to order lockdown measures similar to those already in place in countries like La Belle France or the UK, Aftonbladet reports. In comparison to the United Kingdom or Germany where public gatherings of more than two are banned, in Sweden groups of up to 50 are allowed to congregate presently.

But, but, but, weren't we told (by National Review no less)
If the COVID-19 pandemic tails off in a few weeks, months before the alarmists claim it will, they will probably pivot immediately and pat themselves on the back for the brilliant social-distancing controls that they imposed on the world. They will claim that their heroic recommendations averted total calamity. Unfortunately, they will be wrong; and Sweden, which has done almost no mandated social distancing, will probably prove them wrong.

#10  The Swedish curve has flattened. See official Swedish data site's graphs and scroll to the right until you see graphs for "Sjukdomsfall per dag" (daily infections) and "Avlidna per dag" (daily deaths). The new infections curve is actually falling after a spike.

Again, the recent spike in Swedish infections and deaths is concentrated in Stockholm. Not verified yet but the best explanation is that this spike was largely driven by very non-Swedish social and other practices of those living in Jarva and other Stockholm neighborhoods populated disproportionately by recent immigrants. A targeted and reasonable approach is warranted.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Overturns Liberal Governor's Last Minute Call to Postpone Elections
[THEGATEWAYPUNDIT] On Monday Wisconsin liberal Governor Tony Evers suspended Tuesday’s state election until June. This was a reversal from his stated position just days ago.

It could be because the Democrat candidate for the state supreme court was likely running behind the popular conservative Judge Daniel Kelly.

Conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Daniel Kelly creamed his two Democrat opponents in February’s nonpartisan open primary.
And in the meantime, the horse might learn to sing.

Hillary Clinton Can't Duck Out of Benghazi Testimony by Citing Official Privilege, State Dept. Says
[PJMEDIA] In a devastating move, the State Department has joined with Judicial Watch in claiming that former Secretary of State Crooked Hillary Clinton
...former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away. Politix is not one of her talents, but it's something she keeps trying to do...
cannot dodge a court-ordered deposition in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit seeking "talking points or updates on the Benghazi attack." This FOIA request uncovered Clinton's insecure private home-brew server in 2015.

On March 2, 2020, U.S. District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth granted Judicial Watch's request to depose Clinton and her former chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, in the search for more Benghazi documents. Specifically, Judicial Watch was given the green light to probe Clinton on whether or not she used a private email server to evade FOIA. On March 13, lawyers for Clinton and Mills filed a writ of mandamus, claiming that the former secretary of State could refuse the deposition due to her previous government office. State, represented by Department of Justice (DOJ) lawyers, filed a brief arguing against the mandamus claim on Monday.

"Pursuant to this Court’s Order of March 20, 2020, the Department of State respectfully submits this response to the petition for a writ of mandamus. The government did not seek and thus does not support the extraordinary relief of mandamus due to the unique circumstances of this case," the brief states.

The DOJ brief does not defend the deposition orders, but it does insist that mandamus is not applicable in this case.

Judicial Watch also filed a brief against mandamus, arguing that Clinton and Mills failed to "demonstrate that they have no other adequate means of relief" and they also failed to show "that the District Court's order was a judicial usurpation of power or a clear abuse of discretion or that [Clinton and Mills] have a clear and indisputable right to a writ."

Senior Intel Officials Criticize Adam Schiff's Letter To Director Richard Grenell, Pressing Him Over ODNI Personnel Changes
Ric Grenell's cleaning house and Pencilneck doesn't like it
[Daily Caller] House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff
...Showboating U.S. Representative for California's 28th congressional district since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, Schiff has served in Congress since 2001. He currently serves as the chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. In a manner reminiscent of Joe McCarthy, on March 22, 2017, in a interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC Schiff claimed there was “more than circumstantial evidence now” that Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Russia." Todd followed up by asking if he had seen direct evidence of collusion and Schiff responded that there was "evidence that is not circumstantial and is very much worthy of investigation"...
sent a letter to acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell raising concerns over his recent "organizational and personnel changes" at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, a move which senior intelligence officials criticized in comments to Daily Caller.

One intelligence official noted that letters sent to ODNI by the Senate Intelligence Committee include signatures from both Chairman Richard Burr and Ranking Member Mark Warner and, often times, additional Senators from both parties. Schiff’s letter, the official pointed out, was sent from his office alone, without the notarization of Ranking Member Devin Nunes.

"The [ODNI] staffers are so sick and tired of [Schiff] politicizing the intelligence community for his own gain," the official told Daily Caller. "Notice how he sent the letter to the media before he sent it to ODNI."

A second intelligence official declined to directly comment on Schiff’s letter but told Daily Caller that the Senate Intelligence Committee had not told Grenell and ODNI to refrain from making any personnel decisions, despite some media reports.

Schiff’s letter in particular singles out the recent replacement of the Acting Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) Russ Travers with Lara Shioa, the first woman ever-tapped to lead the nation’s counterterrorism efforts.

"President Trump did not nominate you for confirmation as permanent DNI, and it would be inappropriate for you to pursue any additional leadership, organizational, or staffing changes to ODNI during your temporary tenure," the letter reads. "Any effort, moreover, to remove or otherwise institute personnel actions against apolitical career officers based on their perceived loyalty to the President would contravene civil services protections."

The letter further calls on Grenell to inform the committee in writing by April 16 of all past and potential personnel changes at ODNI and the reasons for undertaking them. The letter also calls for Grenell to turnover any communications between ODNI and the White House regarding the departures of Travers and former Acting Deputy Director of National Intelligence, Peter Hall.

Man Arrested for Allegedly Starting Radioactive Fire at Chernobyl
[BREITBART] Police in Kyiv announced on Monday they have arrested a 27-year-old man for deliberately starting a huge fire in the Exclusion Zone around the decommissioned nuclear plant at Chernobyl, scene of the world’s worst nuclear accident in 1986.

The forest fire erupted on Saturday near the uninhabited village of Vladimirovka, located inside the thousand-square-mile Exclusion Zone, and spread to cover more than 50 acres. Firefighters reported a substantial spike in radiation levels due to the blaze, notching over 2.3 microsieverts per hour when the normal background level in the area is about 0.14.

Over a hundred firefighters and several aircraft were dispatched to fight two separate blazes as fears mounted the radiation spike would reach inhabited towns or even the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv, which is about 60 miles from Chernobyl. As of Tuesday morning, no radiation threat to inhabited areas had been detected.

Radiation in the Exclusion Zone spikes during fires because some pockets of plant life are still irradiated from the Chernobyl disaster, so the smoke and ash produced when it burns contains radioactive particles. Ecological inspection chief Yegor Firsov noted there have been persistent problems with arson in the area and denounced such practices as "barbaric."

Police said the man accused of starting the blaze is a resident of the village of Rahivka who said he decided to set a pile of garbage and grass on fire "for fun." He has not been formally charged yet but could face fines plus up to five years in prison if convicted of destroying forestry. Some Ukrainian politicians believe the penalty should be substantially increased to discourage people from starting fires near the Exclusion Zone.

Total blackout in west and south Libya
[Libya Observer] A total blackout has been reported in western and southern Libya by the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), which says its control teams are trying to figure out the reason behind the power outage.

GECOL said Tuesday that the total blackout in the west and south was out of the blue, adding that its teams started working on regaining power in the two affected regions in hours to come.

Power grids in Libya and the general network has been under regular outages and rolling blackouts in different cities in the country, especially in peak periods in winter and summer.

Blackouts in western Libya, especially Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, add to the tragic situation in a city under constant artillery shelling and outbreak of Coronavirus, let alone the latest outage of water as a group that could be loyal to Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all. Actually, he is, but slowly...
's forces cut off water supplies on Tripoli and western Libya by shutting valves at one of the sites of the Man-Made River.

Iraq
Many Iraqi politicians resent IRGC meddling in their affairs
[al-Monitor] The visit of Iranian Quds Force commander Esmail Ghaani to Iraq last week received a great deal of attention and provoked controversy on the local political scene.

His visit was an attempt to unify Shiite forces in nominating a new prime minister ‐ one who would have close ties to Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
‐ amid the fruitless efforts of the current prime minister-designate, Adnan al-Zurfi, to form a Cabinet. Zurfi is currently facing opposition from the Shiite parliamentary majority.

Yet Ghaani failed to unify the Shiite factions, unlike his predecessor Qasem Soleimani, who brought Shiite forces together to carry out Iran’s objectives. Ghaani not only failed to unite Iraq's leaders but also drew condemnation and criticism from the Shiite leadership.

Al-Monitor learned from a senior holy manal source in Najaf that the office of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani rejected Ghaani’s request for a meeting. Furthermore, influential Shiite holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival al-Khoei assassinated shortly after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry...
canceled a prescheduled meeting with Ghaani, stating in a written message to Ghaani, delivered by Sadr’s military adviser, Abu Doua al-Issawi, that "there should be no foreign interference in Iraq’s affairs."

Parliamentarian Assad al-Murshidi, a member of the National Wisdom Movement led by Shiite holy man Ammar al-Hakim, said in a press statement, "The timing of Ghaani’s visit to Baghdad was improper and a clear interference attempt in the formation of the new government."

Zurfi’s Nasr parliamentary bloc described Ghaani's visit as a failed mission, assuring the Iraqi people that parliament would approve Zurfi’s government.

Zurfi finalized his Cabinet April 4 and sent a request to parliament to hold a session to vote on his Cabinet.

"Zurfi managed to obtain a parliamentary majority," said parliamentarian Nada Jawdat of the Nasr coalition. "[Ghaani’s] visit did not ... thwart Zurfi’s government but, on the contrary, it increased the parliamentary support for the upcoming government."

Nasr parliamentarian Faisal al-Issawi said April 6 that many members of different Shiite factions support Zurfi despite their leaders' objections.

Parliamentarian Alia Nassif of the State of Law coalition said Ghaani was pressuring Shiite factions to withdraw their support for Zurfi. "It is a shame that Iraqi politicians need foreign guardianship to decide on important issues related to their own country," Nassif said.

In the same vein, Sunni parliamentarian Raad al-Dehlaki of the Forces Alliance demanded that the Iraqi foreign minister summon the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad to complain about Ghaani’s interference.

Despite Ghaani’s opposition to Zurfi’s appointment as prime minister, Zurfi is determined to form his government.

"Those opposed to the government can express their position in parliament alone," said Zurfi at a presser in Baghdad April 4, confirming that he did not meet with Ghaani.

Regardless of whether Zurfi's government receives parliamentary approval or if he is replaced by the current head of intelligence services, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, as many Shiite parties are proposing, the divisions among the Shiite forces are a clear sign that Ghaani failed in his mission in Iraq.

Kasur man allegedly kills 6-year-old daughter over maltreatment by wife
[DAWN] A minor girl was found dead in Punjab's Kasur district on Tuesday, allegedly killed by her father over maltreatment by his wife. District Police Officer (DPO) Kasur Zahid Nawaz Marwat said that the police received reports about the body of a minor girl lying in the fields in Chunian.

When police reached the spot, they were divided into several teams including those that interviewed the victim's family and neighbours, those that collected data about child abuse in the area, and a geo-fencing team, according to Marwat.

He added that the human intelligence team quickly gathered information and their data matched with the information technology (IT) record available with the police pointing to the involvement of the victim's father.

The police then arrested the six-year-old's father who confessed to the crime, Marwat said.

According to the police, the father was allegedly an addict and killed his daughter to take "Dire Revenge" from his wife for mistreating him.

AFRICOM kills senior terrorist leader in Somalia
[Stripes] A senior al-Shabab leader who played a key role in plotting deadly attacks throughout East Africa has been killed in an airstrike in Somalia, U.S. Africa Command said Tuesday.

Yusuf Jiis was one of three al-Shabab members killed in the April 2 airstrike, AFRICOM said. The strike was one of a flurry of attacks in Somalia in recent days.

Jiis was "violent, ruthless, and responsible for the loss of many innocent lives," AFRICOM commander Gen. Stephen Townsend said in a statement. "His removal makes Somalia and neighboring countries safer."

AFRICOM has launched six airstrikes in Somalia since April 2, including one on Monday in which five terrorists were killed, it said.

Acting Navy Secretary Resigns after Suggesting Ousted Captain Was ‘Stupid’

Israeli citizen was arrested on suspicion of having links with #Iranian intelligence agencies
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]
The Jerusalem Post article:
An Israeli citizen was arrested on suspicion of having links with Iranian intelligence agencies and providing intelligence on strategic sites in Israel, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced on Tuesday.

The man, whose identity is under gag order, was indicted on serious security offenses in the Lod District Court.

The man was arrested on March 16 in a joint Shin Bet and Israel Police operation. At the time of his arrest, authorities seized encryption devices as well as a disk drive that he tried to destroy during his arrest.

According to the investigation, he had been in contact with Iranian intelligence officials as well as an operative of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Lebanon, Khaled Yamani.

The man had also held meetings with Iranian intelligence officers several times while abroad during which he is said to have received funds, training, secret encryption tools and more so that he could continue to be in contact with his handlers “in an encrypted manner even after his return to Israel,” the Shin Bet said.

According to the security agency’s investigation, as part of his meetings with Iranian intelligence officials, he was asked to provide information on several issues, including: security and strategic sites in Israel; the way in which the rifts in Israeli society could be deepened; recruit Israeli-Arabs to help Iran; and carrying out terror attacks against targets in Israel in the name of liberating Palestine.

Mayor Lightfoot Criticized After Post Shows Her Getting Haircut During Stay-At-Home Order
[CHICAGO.CBSLOCAL] Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been adamant that people stay home and socially distance for weeks.
"I am Groot"
But a social media post from the woman who cut the mayor’s hair this weekend has some wondering if Lightfoot is saying one thing and doing another.

As CBS 2 Political Investigator Dana Kozlov reported, the stylist in the post, Cashmere Neal, thanked the mayor for allowing her to cut her hair on Sunday. And in the photo, the two are standing inches apart without masks.

Mayor Lightfoot on Monday was asked about the photo, whether it is acceptable social distancing, and any concerns that it might be a matter of, “Do as I say, not as I do.”

“We are trying to do the best that we can under difficult circumstances. I am practicing social distancing. The woman who cut my hair had a mask and gloves on,” Lightfoot said. “So we’re, I’m practicing what I’m preaching and making sure. I don’t typically take pictures these days. But we are trying to do everything we can to emphasize the messages around social distancing, washing your hands, stay at home. But as an elected official and the public face of the city, I need to make sure that I am out there and visible.”

U.N. Staffer Brings Coronavirus to South Sudan
It’s a tradition. What was it they brought to Haiti that time?
[BREITBART] South Sudan’s first confirmed case of coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
infection was identified on Sunday as a 29-year-old Dutch woman who works for the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
. Local and U.N. officials said they were attempting to track down everyone she came in contact with during her five weeks in the country.

The chief of the U.N. mission to South Sudan, David Shearer, said 150 people who arrived on the last flights into Juba International Airport two weeks ago were placed in quarantine, with "several dozen" still isolated as a precaution, although none of them have displayed symptoms of the disease.

President Salva Kiir imposed a curfew in South Sudan last week and closed many venues that typically attract large crowds, including churches and mosques. According to Vice President Riek Machar, South Sudan has 11 million residents but only four ventilators at present. The country also has several crowded and unhealthy refugee camps with thousands of inhabitants left over from the long Sudanese civil war.

crisis rescue package.

"This is a heroes’ fund and they deserve it," the New York Democrat said Tuesday.

The Senate minority leader declared the emerging proposal the "highest priority" for Democrats as congressional leaders and President Trump call for more aid for Americans.

Nurses, truck drivers, grocery store clerks and others are "risking their lives" to care for Americans amid the COVID-19 pandemic and economic shutdown, he said.

"They get lots of applause and kudos," he said, referring to the nightly 7 p.m. cheers that ring out from residents across New York City for the front-line workers.

“The W.H.O. really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look. Fortunately I rejected their advice on keeping our borders open to China early on. Why did they give us such a faulty recommendation?” he tweeted.

Liberal Treated With Hydroxychloroquine Hopes He Still Dies Of COVID-19 To Prove Trump Is Stupid
[Babylon Bee] When Jeffrey Walton tested positive for COVID-19, he hoped for a speedy recovery. But since he has been treated with hydroxychloroquine, the experimental treatment President Donald Trump has been touting, he now hopes he dies quickly to help prove that Trump is an idiot.

While Trump has been giving people hope that hydroxychloroquine could save lives, his political opponents have called it false hope and claimed Trump has no idea what he's talking about. Walton, a lifelong Democrat and progressive, had joined in calling Trump "irresponsible" and an "ignoramus" and now has an opportunity to prove it by simply dying. "It's such an opportunity, I don't want to pass it up," Walton said.

Doctor Glenn Logan, Walton's physician, says he's been up and down. "After we gave him the hydroxychloroquine, he got really excited about the idea of dying to prove Trump is dumb, and his good mood helped his condition, and he started to improve. Because that would only help Trump, his getting healthier made him depressed, which caused his condition to deteriorate. Which made him really happy. Which helped him recover and... Well, it's been a weird cycle."

Dr. Logan has been warning Walton that there is a chance he could fully recover. Walton is trying to prepare himself for this -- a world where everything isn't black and white and Trump can be right about some things -- but he insists he'd much rather die
