#1 I can believe it.

The military decision to rely mostly on Afghan Warlords and soldiers at Tora Bora seemed to me a political one.

Fight a war, win, and make sure no one gets hurt.

#2 Okay. Another ex-CIA type performing cya ops. Everything I hear from these ex-ops types I take with a handful of salt. Instead, what do the non-ex ops guys (you know, the ones who haven't been thrown out or gotten out while the getting was good, aka 'the ones still on the job serving their country') have to say. When you do find one and ask, you will generally find that they are rather close mouthed. Personally, I like that trait in our intel types, and wonder (not much, but a little) at the motivation of the ones who do speak.

#4 So, the Afghanistan campaign was not perfect. Franks still pulled off the overthrow of a terrorist regime, conquest of a nation rarely conquered and initiated democratization, to the extent possible, brilliantly. If the trunks were smart, they'd be grooming him for the CEO slot that opens 1/09.
