Mind-controlling fungus makes zombie cicadas lure other cicadas to a zombie fate
[LIVE SCIENCE] Male cicadas infected by a particularly gruesome parasitic fungus become zombies with an undercover mission: They broadcast a female's sexy come-hither message to other male cicadas, luring their unsuspecting victims to join the zombie cicada horde.

Researchers recently discovered this unusual twist to the cicada's already horrific zombification story. As the parasitic fungus called Massospora eats away at a cicada's abdomen, replacing it with a mass of yellow spores, the fungus also compels males to flick their wings in movements that are typically performed by females to attract mates.

Healthy males that hurry over for female company, then try to mate with the infected male, which passes along the Massospora infection. This and other new discoveries are helping scientists to piece together how Massospora turns cicadas into mind-controlled zombies, according to a new study published online June 18 in the journal PLOS Pathogens.

This zombie-host relationship can be challenging to observe. Though the fungus can affect cicadas that emerge annually, many of its cicada hosts are in the Magicicada genus, also known as periodical cicadas. These black-bodied and red-eyed cicadas spend 13 to 17 years (depending on the species) underground as immature nymphs. Luckily for the scientists who study periodical cicadas, local populations known as broods that follow this cycle emerge during different years in different locations.

The New York Times thinks ‘nice white parents' are the root of all evil
[Spectator USA] Cockburn was recently made aware of a new production at the New York Times, bearing the ominous-in-2020 title Nice White Parents. The podcast, launched on Thursday, is the work of the same people who created Serial, the preposterously popular true crime podcast.

This time, Team Serial digs into New York City’s public school system, and specifically, the group they say is the root of all pedagogical evils.

’We’ve tried standardized tests, and charter schools,’ narrator Chana Joffe-Walt solemnly intones in the first episode. ’We’ve tried smaller classes, longer school days, stricter discipline, looser discipline, tracking, differentiation. We’ve decided the problem is teachers, the problem is parents. What is true about all of these reforms, is that when we look for what’s broken...we focus on who they’re failing: poor kids, black kids, and brown kids.’

All of this is misguided, Joffe-Walt explains. The problem, apparently, is a narrative one. Liberals have been too focused on finding people to help. What they actually need is a villain, someone to hurt.

’There is a powerful force that is shaping our public schools, arguably the most powerful force. It’s there even when we pretend not to notice it,’ she says. ’If you want to understand why our schools aren’t better. That’s where you have to look. You have to look at white parents.’

The debut episode focuses on a specialty school in Brooklyn, the School for International Studies. The podcast first faults ’nice white parents’ for not attending the school when it was built, causing it to be overwhelmingly non-white in composition. Then, in 2015, the situation reversed: dozens of white parents enrolled their children in the school, making it racially integrated. But it turns out that was wicked as well, a scholastic version of gentrification (which is also deeply nefarious). The parents are vilified for launching a French immersion program (using a European language rather than Arabic reeks of colonialism, evidently), and for raising $800,000 in a single year. Nothing bad actually happens at the school as a result. No matter; the mere presence of the new arrivals is denigrated as ’annoying’. In a companion article recommending books about the white parent menace, a 10-year-old boy is chided for saying that SIS was improved ’with us here’. A child’s harmless belief that he and his friends made a place better, rather than worse, is warped into the embryo of racism.

Chinese Propaganda Campaign Blames Pandemic on U.S. Army Facility Closed in 1969
[Free Beacon] Chinese propagandists are casting blame for the coronavirus pandemic on a U.S. military research lab that shuttered its biowarfare division more than 50 years ago.

Chinese diplomats and state-run media outlets have repeatedly spread the conspiracy that the coronavirus originated in Maryland's Fort Detrick research lab, often in response to criticism about the country's response to the pandemic.

"Speaking of the truth, we would like the U.S. government to tell the truth about the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, Maryland, to U.S. and the international community," Wang Wenbin, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, said on July 22.

But President Richard Nixon closed down Fort Detrick's offensive biowarfare division in 1969—50 years before the first coronavirus cases were reported in Wuhan, China. Fort Detrick now focuses on defensive biological research as well as cancer research. U.S. officials have frequently criticized the Chinese government for using the Fort Detrick conspiracy theory—and other unproven allegations—to blame the outbreak on the United States.

"To have somebody ... from the Chinese government come out and make a statement like that [is] completely ridiculous and it's irresponsible, and it doesn't get us to where we need to be," said Secretary of Defense Mark Esper in March.

Chinese propaganda organs have floated other countries as possible origins of the coronavirus, with a similar lack of evidence. Global Times, a leading mouthpiece for the regime, once insinuated that the virus could have originated in Spain, citing one research article that has not been peer-reviewed. The same outlet also claimed that the coronavirus was detected in Brazilian sewage back in November 2019.

Chinese social media accounts and U.S. conspiracy theorists have also smeared American military personnel as part of their Fort Detrick conspiracy, accusing one soldier of bringing the virus to China when she competed in the World Military Games held in Wuhan in late 2019. Chinese authorities, who exercise near-total control over what is disseminated on the Chinese internet, have allowed the rumors to spread. Global Times also covered the conspiracy theory in March, demanding that the United States release information about the U.S. delegation to the sports competition.

Does Anyone Have the Courage to Indict Obama?
[Townhall] I recently watched a documentary about how the U.S. government finally took down the mob (aka the Mafia). For decades, the U.S. government failed miserably. Why? Because it could only catch low-level "soldiers" in the act of a crime but never the mob boss (aka The Don).

But something changed in the late 1980s. The government applied the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO Act, to the Mafia. It proved the mob acted as a "family." And when the head of the family gave an order, he was as guilty as the "soldier" who carried it out. This allowed the government to destroy the Mafia.

Suddenly, a light bulb went off. I realized this is exactly how to indict, convict and send former President Barack Obama to prison.

I believe Obama is the biggest criminal in the history of the United States. RICO is how we get Don Obama. He was the head of a family just like the Mafia. Call it the Obama Crime Family.

Attorney General William Barr and U.S. Attorney Durham are playing in the minor leagues. They are going after the "soldiers" of the Obama criminal family. But they should be targeting the head of the snake: Obama. He gave all the orders. He oversaw and coordinated all the crime, extortion, theft, fraud and lies. And, of course, the biggest crime of all: spying. Some might call that treason.

It was all Obama. Just like in New York in the 1980s, it was all Paul Castellano and John Gotti of the Gambino family. The only difference is the crimes and audacity of Obama make the Gambinos look like Boy Scouts. Trust me, the Mafia has nothing on Obama.

Let's compare the crimes of Obama vs. the Gambinos'.

#4  I'm just guessing that after the civil war there are going to be a number of tribunals that will merit out justice delayed, obstructed and unfinished previous to the conflict. Nuremberg set a precedent of a priori behavior being addressed and if history is precedent, maybe they can avoid the Soviet treatment of the Romanovs.

#5  It has been known for several years Bill Clinton was on Epstein's pedophile island with underage girls. If that doesn't get a former President charged, Obama has nothing to worry about for illegal spying on opponent campaigns.

#7  No, and I suspect "they" have something on Trump.

Given their desperation to be rid of Trump and their outrageous actions to date, if they had anything at all on Trump it would have been used. Obama needs a military tribunal and a firing squad for his crimes against the State.
Posted by: H-T-A || 08/02/2020 8:35 Comments || Top||

#8  The reason they have nothing on Trump is that prior to 4 years ago he was elected to nothing and responsible for nothing of public trust. The swamp has no leverage which is why Trump must go get thrown out of Whitehouse. Trumps tactical mistake was trusting RINOs to help him transition. On the first day in office he should have been given a list of every fireable bureaucrat and then fired them all from the left and right.
Posted by: Airandee || 08/02/2020 8:56 Comments || Top||

#9  To get the former president would require an airtight case after all his lieutenants were convicted and some of them turned state’s evidence. Also a year of revelations trumpeted to the skies. and being caught in the act whipping little black boys or something.

We have a tradition here of not going after previous presidents for a reason: it allows all of them to peacefully turn over the reins of office when their term is over. If the threat of jail becomes a thing, they really will refuse to leave.

#11  If nothing on Trump (duly noted), then what is it? Threats against him or his family? Or, if they did have something on him and used it, then Trump might retaliate/quid pro quo. It is all so frustrating 3.5 years into Trump's presidency and zero to show for it (Clinton/Obama). Trump said in the debates that Hillary should be in jail. Well?

One can only hope Obama faces justice. We may know more after November, but don't hold your breath.

#13  Doing Obama would cause a firestorm that would make the current troubles seem like a walk in the park. But, doing a few white subordinates before the election and inching up to Brennan and Comey in October would be a start. After November start on a wider shot group. I doubt Champ ever faces prosecution but in time you can hope to soil his reputation. If they steal the election in November, God Help Us and I plan to bunker in place.

Elon Musk's Mysterious Neuralink Chip Could Make You Hear Things That Were Impossible to Hear Before
[Tech Times] The mysterious Neuralink chip was previously in the headlines when the founder of the company, Elon Musk, said that the chip will be able to stream music straight into the wearer's brain--and now, the tech CEO has revealed more details about it.

In a report by Independent, Musk revealed that the chip will allow the wearer to hear things that they weren't able to hear before as it was out of a human's hearing range, meaning the Neuralink chip can be used to "extend range of hearing beyond normal frequencies and amplitudes."

Additionally, and perhaps even more interesting and exciting, is that the mysterious chip will apparently be able to help restore movement for people with a fully severed spinal cord.

If that proves to be true, it could help millions of people who have had spinal injuries and were unable to move since then, providing the best and perhaps the only cure available on the market.

Florida man clings to the hood of a semi truck driving down an interstate for NINE MILES before troopers intercept vehicle
[MAIL] A bloodied motorist was filmed hanging on for dear life to the hood of a semi-trailer truck that was driving at high speed northbound on the Florida Turnpike near Boynton on Saturday afternoon. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, dispatchers were told that a white male was driving a Toyota SUV with a male passenger traveling southbound on the Turnpike. The passenger told dispatchers that the driver started acting erratically and stopped the vehicle on the exit ramp to Boynton Beach. The driver then got out of the Toyota and started walking on the highway. According to the FHP, the man hopped over the media concrete wall from the southbound side to the northbound side, causing traffic to slow down. He then jumped on top of the hood of a semi tractor-trailer that was driving northbound.

Alan Dershowitz, Prince Andrew, Bill Richardson and … Bill Clinton: All Named in Epstein Court Documents as Involved With Underage Girls
[Red State] Late today, the District Court in the Southern District of New York unsealed several court documents that are part of the case file in civil cases filed against the Estate of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell by a young woman who claims she was a victim of sexual assault at the hands of Epstein, Maxwell, and many others. Jeffrey Epstein was a convicted pedophile and successful suicide practitioner, while his ex-girlfriend Maxwell is now facing federal charges of sex trafficking in the Southern District of New York after her recent indictment.

Epstein was indicted in 2019 but hanged himself — allegedly — in his New York jail cell while awaiting trial.

The long history of this matter is beyond the scope of this article. But the basics are that Epstein was a wealthy "financier" from New York who was investigated beginning in 2004 for engaging in sexual conduct with minor girls at various properties owned by him in New York, Florida, and a private island he owned in the Caribbean. In 2008, Epstein pled guilty to state charges in Florida for procuring an underage girl for prostitution. As part of that arrangement, the US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida agreed to a "Deferred Prosecution Agreement" (DPA) to resolve an indictment on similar charges that had been filed under seal by a Florida grand jury. If Epstein successfully completed his sentence in the state case, the federal case would be dismissed without further proceedings.

There is nothing "ordinary" about the disposition of the federal case in Florida, and the details of that case are not well known beyond the reporting by the Miami Herald. But one aspect of the DPA that no one connected to federal law enforcement that I know has ever seen done before is that it supposedly grants immunity to other individuals, including ANY unnamed "potential co-conspirators". Ghislaine Maxwell’s attorneys have publicly stated that they intend to assert the language of the DPA as a defense on her behalf in the federal indictment recently returned against her.

It is reported that Alan Dershowitz negotiated the terms of the DPA on Epstein’s behalf.

China moves troops near Lipulekh Pass
[HindustanTimes] India and China have been engaged in a standoff in Eastern Ladakh beginning in early May that flared up on June 15 into the bloodiest clash between soldiers of the two countries in 45 years.

New Delhi China has mobilised a battalion strength of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers near Uttarakhand’s Lipulekh Pass, one of the locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) where movement of Chinese troops has been noticed over the last few weeks outside of the Ladakh sector, people familiar with the matter told Hindustan Times.

India and China have been engaged in a standoff in Eastern Ladakh beginning in early May that flared up on June 15 into the bloodiest clash between soldiers of the two countries in 45 years. Twenty Indian soldiers and an unspecified number of PLA men died in the clash.

Lewis Funeral Goers Receive Selective Enforcement of CV-19 Rules From D.C. Mayor
[Wire via Red State] n Friday, we reported about a man who was flying in for his father’s funeral when he observed the large funeral for Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) and made the heartbreaking tweet that his family would not be allowed to have more than 10 people at the funeral, because of virus rules.

"I get it. My dad wasn’t important. So it’s ok to limit his funeral to 10 people tomorrow," Brink said.

An ABC reporter, Wendell Edwards, accused the man of making an attack on Lewis, which he was not doing. He then responded about the man, "His father was important and should be celebrated. But he was not John Lewis."

Translation: some people are more equal than others.

Now, on Saturday, Washington, D.C. confirmed that was true. Ordinary people going to Atlanta, then trying to go back to D.C. are required to self-quarantine for 14 days, according to the order of Mayor Muriel Bowser on July 24. That means they would have to "stay at their residence or in a hotel room, leaving only for essential medical appointments or treatment or to obtain food and other essential goods when the delivery of food or other essential goods to their residence or hotel is not feasible" as well as monitor for virus symptoms.

Soldier from Himachal killed as Pakistan violates ceasefire in J-K’s Poonch
[HindustanTimes] Pak troops violated the ceasefire in Balakot sector of Mendhar sub-division of the district, they added.

An Indian Army soldier was killed on Friday night after Pakistain violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
’s Poonch district, officials said on Saturday.

According to officials, 24-year-old Sepoy Rohin Kumar was critically injured and later departed this vale of tears as Pak troops violated the ceasefire in Balakot sector of Mendhar sub-division.

"Pakistain Army resorted to an unprovoked ceasefire violation on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri Sector (J&K). Own troops responded strongly to the enemy fire," Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand said in a release.

"Sep Rohin Kumar was a brave, highly motivated and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," Anand added.

Kumar was a resident of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh, officials said.

Thanks to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, Some of Us Still Live in America
[PJ] I am old enough to remember when the media was trashing Georgia Gov. Kemp for being a first to reopen the economy. Massive death and suffering were sure to follow. That didn’t happen and Kemp never got an apology or an opportunity to tout the success of the reopening.

Then the riots happened over Memorial Day weekend and continued apace following the death of Rayshard Brooks. About two weeks later, Georgia’s case-rate began to climb. The cases were concentrated in Fulton County, where the protests occurred in Atlanta and two adjacent counties, Gwinnett and DeKalb.

By that time Georgia had been open for six weeks. Georgians were not going back on lockdown. We were back to eating out, back to the gym, and getting our hair done. It was starting to feel like we could get back to normal. Most Georgians also don’t take hypocrisy lightly. If thousands of people could be in the streets in downtown Atlanta, there was no way you were going to stop those of us outside the city from meeting friends for a plate of nachos and a beverage on Friday evenings.

Governor Kemp resisted calls to lock down again. He insisted that the freedoms that had been restored be available to Georgians across the state. Nor did the governor let mayors in Savannah and Atlanta place additional restrictions inside their cities. He also ensured no Georgian or business would be fined for not wearing masks or enforcing mask-wearing.

He invalidated local ordinances that mandated masks or levied fines. Following that announcement, there was much screeching and gnashing of teeth from Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. Kemp went on a statewide tour to educate the public on mask-wearing with the surgeon general. He has also consistently modeled the behavior in public and on social media.

However, to those on the left, letting adults assess their own risk and make a personal decision is not allowable. So the governor was trashed again amid rising cases due to the Mostly Peaceful Protests™. Then Mayor Bottoms blew it by negotiating with domestic terrorists who had taken over a local Wendy’s they had burned down. Then an 8-year-old girl was shot at the border to Atlanta’s own mini-CHAZ.

#8  #7 - what if "recoveries" are under-reported, by a factor of five, as suggested at Coronavirus Bell Curve?

Since 4/6, the reported daily recovery numbers have been much lower than what we would expect based on COVID-19 average incubation period and time from symptom emergence to death. This has resulted in a likely overstatement of the reported active US case count since 4/6.

I'd say, recoveries are reported late, or not at all, because there's no headlines there.

That's why the numbers 3,825/31,926 that's the ones with symptoms.

How many of these "cases" could have been false positives?

Most. That's why they're NOT counted among resolved cases.

p.s. You say "false positives" as if somebody set out to defraud you. So, sorry, but you can't have perfect tests - sans false positive. That's why people who test positive are allowed to self-quarantine.

pp.s. The entire theory of herd immunity (remember it?) was based on the assumption that asymptomatic positive = asymptomatic infection followed by immune memory.

[Washington Examiner] Two anti-abortion activists were arrested Saturday morning after writing "black preborn lives matter" outside of a Planned Parenthood building.

Writing the phrase in chalk on the sidewalk outside of a Planned Parenthood site in Washington, D.C., was part of an event held by Students for Life of America and the Frederick Douglass Foundation, according to the Daily Caller.

"I’m gonna tell you now that if you continue chalking, you will be placed under arrest for defacing property," a police officer could be heard saying to two of the protesters at one point.

Plane loaded with cocaine crashes in Australia uncovering criminal syndicate
[UPI] Australian police said Saturday they uncovered a Melbourne-based criminal syndicate after a plane loaded with more than 1,000 pounds of cocaine crashed in Papua New Guinea.

The plane crashed Sunday shortly after taking off en route to Australia. Police charged alleged members of a syndicate they said conspired to transport cocaine between the two countries.

"Greed played a significant part in the syndicate's activities," the Australian Federal Police said in a statement, adding that it "cannot rule out that the weight of the cocaine had an impact on the plane's ability to takeoff."

The plane was found empty Monday near Papa Lea Lea, about 19 miles northwest of Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby, with its pilot missing. On Tuesday, the pilot presented himself to the Australia Consulate in Papua New Guinea and he was arrested and charged, the AFP statement said.

With the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary conducting ongoing investigation throughout the week, by late Friday, the national police force found 28 bags containing more than 1,000 pounds of cocaine alleged to be linked to the flight, Australian Federal Police said in the statement.

The AFP, working with Queensland and Victoria Police, Australian Border Force, Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, and the national police force, has charged five men linked to the incident, who could all face life imprisonment, according to the statement.

Police said the five men were arrested in Queensland and Victoria on Sunday, on allegations that they intended to carry out the importation and collection of cocaine from Papua New Guinea estimated to be worth more than $80 million.

Fifth Column
No Injustice, No Peace
[POWERLINEBLOG] Darren Wilson is the former Ferguson, Missouri police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown, who assaulted him. The shooting was a wholly justified act of self defense. Yet, it triggered the Black Lives Matter movement. It’s fitting that a phony justice movement originated with a phony claim of police misconduct. Wilson has been cleared of any criminal conduct by a grand jury and by the Obama-Holder Justice Department. But the left never gives up. Thus, as Bill Otis notes, yet another prosecutor, Wesley Bell
...one of the stable of Fair and Just Prosecution prosecutors whose campaign was funded by multi-billionaire Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz in order to drive local governance to the far left, a parallel effort to that of multi-billionaire George Soros...
elected in 2018, reopened the investigation of Wilson.

Bell, who is African-American, gained office by attacking Robert McCulloch, the incumbent prosecutor. McCulloch led the grand jury proceeding that resulted in no indictment of Wilson. Yet, Bell reached the same conclusion as McCulloch: Darren Wilson is not guilty of any crime that could be proven to a jury under the same standards applied to everyone else.

It’s absurd that Wilson’s conduct was scrutinized in three separate proceedings, including one that wrapped up six years after the fact. That’s not the same standard applied to everyone else. It’s the standard applied to people the BLM mob wants to crucify.

Yet, it’s gratifying that even a prosecutor elected due to blow back against a predecessor who cleared Wilson was able to conclude that there is no basis for a prosecution. There can be no clearer demonstration that the BLM movement was founded on a lie about what happened in Ferguson.

Bell now must face the ire of the fanatics who helped elect him. The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reports that as he left the lectern after announcing his decision, an activist berated him, saying Bell now would be voted out of office. "We got Bob McCulloch out only to replace him with the Black Bob McCulloch," this genius declared.

In addition, 30 or so demonstrators converged on the Ferguson Market and Liquor, where Brown, the "gentle giant," shoved a store clerk prior to his fatal interaction with Wilson. They called for a boycott of the store and, as would-be customers approached, told them the store was closed.

That’s the mob’s response to the refusal of multiple prosecutors to bring unwarranted charges against Darren Wilson: No injustice, no peace.

Israel Sends Spy Balloon over Lebanese Town
[Ananahar] The Israeli army on Saturday sent a spy balloon over the Lebanese border town of Houla, Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
’s National News Agency said.

The agency said the balloon hovered over the town for 15 minutes.

Cautious calm is meanwhile engulfing the Lebanese-Israeli border, NNA added.

Tensions have surged in the border area since Israel killed a Hizbullah

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Chicago homicides and shootings rise sharply in 2020
[EN.ALGHADEER.TV] Homicides and shootings have surged in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
during the first seven months of the year. From Jan. 1 through the end of July, there were 440 homicides in Chicago and 2,240 people shot, including many of those who were killed, according to statistics released Saturday by the police department.

There were 290 homicides and 1,480 shootings, including people who were killed, in the first seven months of last year.

July was especially violent mostly peaceful, as the city recorded 105 homicides and 584 shootings. Among them was a 9-year-old boy who was killed Friday when someone opened fire in the direction of a number of people, including him and his friends, according to police.

There were 308 shootings and 44 homicides in July 2019.

Despite the increase in violent mostly peaceful crime, overall crime, which includes violent mostly peaceful crimes, burglaries, and thefts, was down 9% compared to the same period last year. The decrease was driven by a 26% decline in thefts and a 19% decline in sexual assaults, police said.

The police department is moving more officers into districts and has been "focused on creating teams that can address violent mostly peaceful crime head-on within our most vulnerable neighborhoods," police Superintendent David O. Brown said in a news release.

Violent crime has risen in many U.S. cities this year. President Donald Trump
...the Nailer of NAFTA...
recently announced he was sending federal agents to some of them, including Chicago, to help local authorities fight such crime as part of an operation that started last year.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot
...the diminutive and vacuous Heronner da Mare of Chicago. When the corpse count rises she blames the guns, which are banned anyway...
pushed back in letter to the White House, writing: "We need you, as President, to take a leadership role in enacting meaningful and common-sense gun legislation, which you so far have refused to do."

#2  /\ Could there be a CDC CV-19 solution to the mayhem? Travel restrictions, fences, walls, strictly enforced no-go areas? Reservations? Tribal justice? Eventual herd immunity? Two-State solution? Just thinking out of the box:

Isolation and quarantine

Isolation and quarantine protect the public by preventing exposure to people who have or may have a contagious disease. Isolation separates those with who are sick with a contagious disease from those who are not to avoid transmission. Quarantine separates and restricts movement of people who may have been exposed to a contagious disease, but do not yet show symptoms. Those in quarantine are monitored, usually for a period of time known as the incubation period to see if they become sick. Usually, if those in quarantine do not develop symptoms during that period, the quarantine will be lifted and they are allowed to resume their usual activities.

Syrian Army seizes large amount of weapons being smuggled to militants in Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) managed to thwart an attempt by a group of bandidos forces of Evil to smuggle weapons through the government territories to the Idlib Governorate this week.

According to the SAA, their forces were able to stop the transport before it could reach the bad boy lines in Idlib.

The bandidos forces of Evil attempted to transport a large quantity of artillery shells, ammunition, and other military supplies, but were stopped by the Syrian Army in the Hama Governorate.

This latest bust comes just days after a similar smuggling attempt was foiled by the Syrian Arab Army in northwestern Syria.

Facebook puts global block on Brazil’s Bolsonaro supporters
[EN.ALGHADEER.TV] Facebook said on Saturday it has put a global block on certain accounts controlled by supporters of Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro implicated in a fake news inquiry, a day after it was fined for not complying with a Supreme Court judge’s order to do so.A spokesperson for Facebook said the order was "extreme" and threatens "freedom of expression outside of Brazil’s jurisdiction", but said the company has agreed to the order.

"Given the threat of criminal liability to a local employee, at this point we see no other alternative than complying with the decision by blocking the accounts globally, while we appeal to the Supreme Court," the spokesperson said.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes had ruled on Thursday that Facebook and Twitter failed to comply with orders to block the accounts because they were only blocked within Brazil, but remained accessible with foreign IP addresses.

On Friday, he ruled that Facebook must pay a 1.92 million reais ($367,710) fine for not complying and face further daily fines of 100,000 reais per day if it does not block the accounts in question globally.

Before the fine was announced, Facebook said on Friday that it would appeal the decision. The world’s largest social network said it respects the laws of countries where it operates, but that "Brazilian law recognizes the limits of its jurisdiction."

The judge’s fine only addressed Facebook’s non-compliance. It was not clear whether Twitter would face a similar fine.

The judge originally decided in May to block 16 Twitter accounts and 12 Facebook accounts of Bolsonaro supporters who have been linked to a probe into the spreading of fake news during Brazil’s 2018 election.

The accounts were blocked due to allegations that they violated laws on hate speech.

Nearly Half Of Young Americans Say It’s Okay To Fire People Who Support Trump
[THEFEDERALIST] The Cato Institute just released a new report showing that 62 percent of Americans are inclined to self-censor what they say politically "because others might find them offensive." Even moderate leftists report they feel increased fear of offending the offendable, while only the most "staunch liberals," as Cato described them, feel free to speak their minds. The "very conservative" have been pushed deepest in the closet: they are most likely to refrain from saying what they think politically, at nearly twice the rate of the "very liberal."Buried deeper in the report, however, is a stunning data point that might be one of the most troubling current cultural indicators. Forty-four percent of Americans younger than age 30 believe a company is correct in firing an executive because he or she personally donated to President Trump’s reelection campaign.

The companion finding was also disturbing. Twenty-seven percent of people under 30 said they were fine with an executive being fired because he or she donated to the Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden

The ‘Hold My Beer’ Theory of the Portland and Seattle Seppuku
[AspenBeat] My theory regarding this flight from reality in Portland and Seattle (where I lived for a couple of years) is that those cities have long suffered from an inferiority complex vis-a-vis San Francisco. The big city to the south makes Portland and Seattle feel like a timber mill and a fishing harbor.

Every policy decision is consequently animated with the unspoken sentiment, "What would San Fran do? Let's outdo that!"

Congratulations, Portland and Seattle, you've managed to outdo even San Francisco in violence, vagrancy and anarchy. Now you can live in the festering filth and feces of sociopaths who have nothing but cynical contempt for your self-indulgent self-righteousness. But at least you feel really good about yourselves.

Let's pull the feds out of Portland and Seattle. Give the people there the feel-good they crave and vote for, good and hard. Let's see how they like it when the thugs come for them.

"Over 600 houses in the neighborhoods of Bout town in Blue Nile State have been destroyed due to a sudden collapse of Bout dam which is used to store around 5 million cubic meters of water coming from the valleys of Al-Angsana Mountains," local media quoted Nusaiba Farouq Kalol, acting executive director of Al Tadamun locality in Sudan's Blue Nile State, as saying.

"The water surrounded another 600 families in a neighbourhood, with no access to them as the water flooded the area from three directions," she added.

Understanding Hezbollah's complex planning behind the events on Har Dov
[Jpost] BEHIND THE LINES: This week’s skirmish on the northern border must be seen through the prism of the leadership struggle in Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel.
The events at Mount Dov earlier this week, in order to be understood, need to be placed in the broader context of Israel’s ongoing undeclared military campaign against Iran. They also cannot be separated from Hezbollah’s current status as the de facto ruler of Lebanon.

Gretchen Whitmer Blocks GOP Bill That Would Have Kept Coronavirus Patients Out Of Nursing Homes
Via Daily Wire:

Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer vetoed a Republican bill on Friday that would have kept coronavirus patients out of nursing homes and placed them in entirely separate facilities — an effort aimed at protecting those most vulnerable to developing serious complications from the coronavirus, which originated in China.

"The bill was a direct challenge to the Whitmer administration’s current handling of nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has focused on caring for those with the virus in isolated spaces of existing homes," The Detroit News reported. "About 33% of the state's deaths linked to the virus have been nursing home residents or employees, according to state data."

Sen. Peter Lucido (R-Shelby Township) blasted Whitmer's decision to not take more action to protect vulnerable seniors in nursing homes, which "account for more than 41 percent of the country's pandemic fatalities," according to The New York Times.

Iraq
Iraq oil exports down but revenue up in July
[Rudaw] Iraq continued to cut its oil exports in July, in compliance with an OPEC+ agreement, but brought in more revenues thanks to higher prices.

In July, Iraq exported an average of 2.763 million barrels per day (bpd), bringing in $3.487 billion in revenue, the Oil Ministry announced Saturday. The average price per barrel was $40.708.

"Despite the reduction in production and export in compliance with the OPEC+ agreement, financial revenues increased compared to previous months," said ministry spokesperson Assem Jihad.

July exports included an average of 8,000 bpd to Jordan, resuming the trade as prices rebounded. Oil prices of less than $20 per barrel made it too costly for more than 200 oil tankers transporting crude from Kirkuk to Jordan.

Oil producers of OPEC and allies have been cutting production since May by 10 percent of global supply after the COVID-19 virus slashed demand. OPEC+ agreed to ease the measure from August as the global economy shows signs of recovery.

Iraq was slow to comply with the production cuts. Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul Jabbar Ismail said it would be in full compliance by August and would compensate for overproduction in May and June.

In June, Iraq exported 2.816 million bpd, bringing in $2.861 billion. In May, Iraq exported 3.212 million bpd with revenues of $2.91 billion. In April, Iraq exported 3.438 million bpd, but with a price of $13.801 per barrel, revenues were just $1.423 billion.

Afghanistan
Calm across Afghanistan as Ceasefire Holds on Day Two
[AnNahar] Calm prevailed across much of Afghanistan on Saturday as a ceasefire between the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
and government forces appeared to be holding on its second day, boosting hopes that the two foes could soon begin peace talks.

There were no reports of major festivities since Friday, and Afghans took advantage of it to continue celebrating the Eid al-Adha
...a major Moslem holiday, marked by animal sacrifice and ritual rioting...
festival.

The three-day truce is slated for the duration of the Moslem festival and is only the third official pause in the nearly 19 years of war that has ravaged Afghanistan.

President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
and the Taliban have both signaled that peace talks could begin straight after Eid, and there are widespread calls to extend the ceasefire.

"I think we are closer to peace talks more than any other time," said Kabul resident Ahmad Rashed as he visited an animal market in the capital.

"The sooner they start, more lives could be saved."

Moslems across the world buy sheep or cows to slaughter in an annual ritual during the Eid al-Adha festival.

"There have been no reports of any terrorist attacks in the past two days since the ceasefire began," Attaullah Khogyani, front man to the governor of the eastern province of Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
told AFP.

Nangarhar has seen regular festivities between government forces and the Taliban, and also attacks claimed by the krazed killer Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

In the southern province of Kandahar, where the Taliban control swathes of rural terrains, there were no reports of fighting.

"There are no enemy movements or attacks by the Taliban," said Baheer Ahmad, front man to Kandahar governor.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan: Eid more joyous with Hagia Sophia Mosque
[APA.AZ] The president of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
on Saturday said the reopening of the Hagia Sophia as a mosque made the Moslem festival of Eid al-Adha
...a major Moslem holiday, marked by animal sacrifice and ritual rioting...
even more joyous, APA reports citing Anadolu Agency.

"The reopening of the Hagia Sophia grand Mosque -- an 86-year wound in the heart of our nation -- has added to the joy of our Eid," His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
said, greeting local officials of his ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party for the holiday via video-link.

Erdogan said he sought to hold an upcoming party congress as a "new resurrection, a new rising milestone."

The next AK Party congress is expected to be held towards the end of 2020 while observing health and safety measures against the novel coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
Erdogan said those who "see themselves above the nation" could not be a member of the AK Party.

"We'll increase our friends, we'll reduce our enemies," he said. "The reason for the existence of the AK Party, the reason why we take on these duties and the reason for people's hope in us are the same."

On July 24, Friday's prayers in the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque marked the first acts of worship there in 86 years.

The Hagia Sophia served as a church for 916 years until the conquest of Istanbul, and a mosque from 1453 to 1934 -- nearly 500 years -- and most recently as a museum for 86 years.

In 1985, Hagia Sophia was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Besides being a mosque, the Hagia Sophia is also among Turkey's top tourism destinations and will remain open for domestic and foreign visitors.

Dam collapse destroys 600 houses in Sudan
[Al Ahram] A sudden collapse of a dam in Sudan's Blue Nile State has destroyed 600 houses, local Sudanese media reported late on Friday.

The local official warned against a big wave of displacement in the area, noting that the Bout dam constitutes the backbone for the area where there is a large market and more than nine basic education schools.

Annually during June and July, Sudan witnesses waves of floods due to heavy rains.

On Thursday, Sudan meteorological authorities warned of medium to heavy rains, accompanied by high-speed winds on Friday that would continue until Saturday afternoon, in various parts of the country.

Columnist urges conservatives to sue media outlets for defamation: 'Make it cost them dearly'
[FoxNews] 'Here is an opportunity for lawyers -- and people who care about accountability in journalism -- to do some good'

Conservative author Kevin D. Williamson believes the world needs "a hell of a lot more defamation suits," and he wants conservatives to help lead the charge.

In an op-ed Saturday, Williamson argued that conservatives should fund an effort to represent people pro-bono after media outlets like The Washington Post defame them. "The only way to get the Washington Post or CNN to stop the abuse is to make it cost them dearly," Williamson wrote for the New York Post.

The Washington Post recently settled in a $250 million suit with Nick Sandmann, the Kentucky high school student who was accused of racism after a viral video of his encounter with a Native American man emerged. The teen also sought damages from NBC and CNN, the latter of which also settled with him.

Williamson argues that Sandmann's case was high-profile, allowing him to obtain high-quality legal representation that others might not have while combating lies. The conservative movement should help them, Williamson argues, like the plethora of religious liberty and gun rights groups do with others.

But Williamson pointed to another case involving an immigration activist suing MSNBC anchor Joy Reid. Roslyn La Liberte filed the lawsuit in 2019, claiming that Reid had defamed her when she posted a viral photo of La Liberte with a misleading caption.

The June 2018 photo was of La Liberte wearing a "Make American Great Again" hat while appearing to yell at a 14-year-old boy during a City Council meeting in Simi Valley. The meeting took place amid legislation intended to limit local police department's cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Reid retweeted the photo of La Liberte, adding the caption: "You are going to be the first deported." She posted it on other social media accounts with the caption: "You are going to be the first deported ... dirty Mexican!"
Ah heck yea

Turkish bomb hits within 20km of Duhok city: official
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
’s war with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) came very close to a major city on Saturday. A Ottoman Turkish jet targeted and missed a suspected PKK vehicle northeast of Duhok city, according to local officials.
12 miles
"The air strike happened at 6:30pm," Mushir Bashir, mayor of Zaweta town in Duhok province, told Rudaw. "They fired a missile at a PKK vehicle in the village of Gundak, but it landed just next to the road missing the vehicle and it managed to escape."

The area is just 20 kilometres from Duhok city, home to about 400,000 people.

Bashir said no one was injured in the Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
, but it "sparked panic among the villagers." This is the first time the area has been targeted by Turkey’s bombs, he added.

Footage of Saturday’s incident submitted to Rudaw shows people gathering around the scorched site and collecting shrapnel.

Turkey launched its current offensive in the Kurdistan Region on June 15, with the stated aim of removing PKK fighters from the border areas. Operations have focused on areas in Duhok province’s Zakho region where villagers living in the mountains have borne the brunt of Turkey's bombing.

Seven civilians have been killed and many villages have been abandoned. Two people killed last weekend were initially identified as members of the PKK, but their families later denied the connection. Mohammed Abdulla, whose father was killed in the airstrike, told Rudaw his father had no ties with the PKK.

Apple Fire burns 1,720 acres in Cherry Valley, evacuations ordered
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

A fast-moving brush fire broke out in the Cherry Valley area of Riverside County, California on Friday (July 31) evening at around 5 pm, triggering mandatory evacuations.

The blaze, dubbed the Apple Fire, has grown to at least 1,720 acres Friday night near Oak Glen Road and Apple Tree Lane, authorities confirmed.

As many as 150 homes have been evacuated till now and containment remains at 0 percent.
It’s fire season, just like every year in that part of the world. But some prefer to forget that, blaming President Trump.
When is fire season in California?

With two long fire seasons, Californians see potential wildfire threat almost year round. From October until April, Santa Ana winds kick up and pose a threat to The Golden State. Then, from June until September, summer heat can create perfect conditions for wildfires to thrive. That said, it’s not the summer months that worry Californians.

Although summer fires are just as serious — and typically last longer — they generally burn a lot slower and less intensely. Santa Ana wildfires, on the other hand, are as intense as they come. The wildfires caused by wind in October through April tend to spread at a rapid pace and often impact more developed areas along the coastline — such as Ventura’s Thomas Fire in December 2017.

According to a study conducted by the U.S. Forest Service along with the University of California at Irvine, UC Davis, and UCLA, the two fire seasons are as different as they come. Summer fires can occur anywhere in the state and typically target more wild and remote areas. For those along the coast — San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Barbara, Napa, to name a few — Santa Ana fires are a major concern and economically devastating.

Iran clears oil spill in northern Gulf region, IRNA agency reports
[THEBAGHDADPOST] Iranian teams have cleaned up an oil slick near field in the northern region of the Gulf that had extended over a six-square-km (2.3 square mile) area, an Iranian maritime official said on Saturday.

The cause of the spill, which occurred on Wednesday, was being investigated, the director general of ports and maritime in Iran’s Bushehr Province, Siavash Arjomandzadeh, told the official IRNA news agency.

The cleanup took place near the Abuzar field, Iran’s main production area in the Gulf.
An Iranian official had told IRNA on Thursday that it was difficult to determine the cause of the spill because there were several fields belonging to Iran

Abuzar oil field, about 75 km (46 miles) west of Iran’s Kharg Island, has three main platforms producing between 195,000 to 220,000 barrels per day of oil, IRNA reported, adding 107 wells had been drilled in the field of which 67 still operated.

Why You Shouldn't Underestimate ANTIFA
[VictoryGirls] If you live in the American heartland, you might have watched the urban carnage over the last few months and shrugged your shoulders or shook your head. After all, ANTIFA running amok in the cities is most definitely a Democrat-created problem. They bore that child and fed him candy, and now they can deal with the fallout. There’s a reason why people choose to live in the heartland and not the city anyway. Not my circus, not my monkeys. There’s just one problem. ANTIFA, whether anyone knows or wants to admit it, is already in the heartland — even in areas thought of as bastions of freedom — and they’re organizing and training.

MYTH: ANTIFA is made up of effeminate "soy boys."
One of the most pervasive things going around about ANTIFA are that they are not even remotely a threat. They’re all so busy looking for their next vegan meal, putting beads in their sparse beards, or eating Pop-Tarts in their mom’s basement that they cannot possibly be a threat to real American manly men — or at least that’s how they’re portrayed. Stories like the one below serve to help that narrative, and it’s one that ANTIFA doesn’t mind going around. Being underestimated is an excellent force multiplier.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran says it arrested head of US-based 'terrorist group'
[Rudaw] Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
said Saturday it has arrested the head of a US-based "terrorist group" accused of being behind a deadly 2008 bombing in the southern city of Shiraz and of other, abortive attacks.

The group's Jamshid Sharmahd, who was leading armed and sabotage operations inside Iran, is now in the powerful hands" of Iran's security forces, state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said in a report citing a statement from the intelligence ministry.

The statement did not elaborate on where or when the leader of the opposition royalist group known as the Kingdom Assembly of Iran,
... Anjoman-e Padeshahi-e Iran in Farsi, the group is based in Glendora near Los Angeles, where they have a Farsi language television station serving about 600,000 Iranian expats. Their aim is to restore the Pahlavi constitutional monarchy abolished by the 1979 revolution...
or Tondar (Farsi for Thunder),
...sometimes described as a splinter of Kingdom Assembly of Iran, sometimes given as an alternate name, so who knows?
was arrested.

According to the statement, he had orchestrated the April 12, 2008 bombing in a packed mosque in Shiraz that killed 14 people and maimed 215.

Iran hanged three men convicted of the bombing in 2009, saying they had ties to the monarchist group. It said they had been taking orders from an Iranian US-backed "CIA agent" to try to assassinate a high-ranking official in Iran. They were 21-year old Mohsen Eslamian and Ali Asghar Pashtar, 20 - both university students - as well as Rouzbeh Yahyazadeh, 32. The three were found guilty of being "mohareb" (enemies of God) and "corruption on the earth" by a revolutionary court in Tehran.

Iran hanged two other convicted members of the group in 2010, who had "confessed to obtaining explosives and planning to assassinate officials".

The statement issued on Saturday said that Tondar had plotted several other "big operations" which failed. It said that Tondar had planned to blow up a dam in Shiraz, use "cyanide bombs" at a Tehran book fair, and plant an bomb at the mausoleum of the Islamic republic's founder, the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

It was not clear how Iran arrested the US-based Sharmahd.
No doubt it involved a good deal of rappelling down buildings in black ninja suits with green shaheed headbands, dive rolls across open bits of landscape followed by rising alertly to one knee, then dashing off in new directions, and loud cussing while in the background dramatic explosions and bursts of gunfire made their presence known...
Iran's intelligence ministry announced the arrest of a former opposition figure in similarly mysterious circumstances in October last year. Ruhollah Zam, described as a "counter-revolutionary" by Iranian authorities, was sentenced to death last month over "corruption on earth". Zam, who reportedly lived in exile in Gay Paree, ran a channel on the Telegram messaging application called Amadnews and was accused of sparking unrest during anti-government protests last year.
Al Ahram adds:
According to the association's website, Sharmahd was born in Tehran in 1955 and grew up in an Iranian-German family before moving to the United States in 2003, where he started to voice anti-Islam and Islamic republic statements.
And from the Times of Israel:
Authorities did not elaborate on how they apprehended Sharmahd, though Iranian intelligence operatives in the past have used family members and other tricks to lure targets back to Iran or friendly countries to be captured. An alleged Iranian government operative who allegedly tried to hire a hitman to kill Sharmahd disappeared in 2010 before facing trial in California, likely having returned to Iran.

While overshadowed by other exiled opposition groups, Iran reportedly brought up the Kingdom Assembly multiple times while negotiating the terms of the 2015 deal, which saw Tehran limit its enrichment of uranium in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.

A statement attributed to Tondar claimed the assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist in 2010 by a remote-control bomb, though it later said it wasn’t responsible. Suspicion long has fallen on Israel for a string of assassinations targeting scientists amid concerns about Iran’s nuclear program.

Over 60 84 killed by bootleg alcohol in Indian state
[EN.ALGHADEER.TV] More than 60 people have died after drinking toxic bootleg alcohol in the Indian state of Punjab, officials and reports said. The victims died in three districts of the northern state and police have arrested 10 people, the officials said.

Hundreds of people die every year in India from poisoned alcohol made in backstreet distilleries which sells for as little as 10 rupees (13 US cents) a litre.

An official told AFP that 11 people had died in Gurdaspur district. Press Trust of India news agency and other media said Saturday the illicit booze had claimed 53 lives in neighbouring Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts.

Other deaths were suspected in recent days but could not be proved as the bodies had been cremated without a post-mortem examination.
"Somebody strucka match.."
Punjab state chief minister Amarinder Singh said Friday he had ordered a special inquiry into the deaths and "anyone found guilty will not be spared".

The Indian Express newspaper said one of the suspects had died in Amritsar district after consuming the illegal liquor and that his wife had been arrested for selling the alcohol.

The case came after authorities in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh said on Friday that nine people had died after drinking alcohol-based sanitiser.

The victims drank the sanitiser as a substitute for alcohol which has been restricted during a coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...

Update from the Hindustan Times at 1:15 a.m. EDT:
The corpse count in the Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

hooch tragedy rose to 84 as 43 more people died on Saturday, officials familiar with the matter said.

A majority of the deaths, 62, were reported from Tarn Taran district, with Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts registering 11 deaths each. The police have arrested 25 people, including one of the key accused-- Darshan Rani, alias Faujan, in connection with the deaths across the three districts, officials said.

The police have seized large quantities of ’lahan’ (raw material used for making liquor) from various villages and ’dhabas’ in the region around the Shambhu border, Rajpura and Patiala, Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta said. The raids have exposed a massive liquor racket, extending across several districts, he said, adding that several dhabas at Shambhu, Banur and Rajpura of Patiala have been sealed.

An excise department official said on condition of anonymity that though reports of the chemical analysis of the material seized in police raids were yet to arrive, a preliminary check showed that the material was denatured spirit, generally used in the paint or hardware industry.

News agency PTI reported that chief minister Amarinder Singh has ordered the suspension of seven excise officials, along with six coppers over negligence of duty. Among the suspended officials are two deputy superintendents of police and four station house officers, the news agency said. The CM also announced Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for each of the families of the dear departed.
