'US funding terrorist group against Iran'

A member of a terrorist organization operating in Iran says that a US State department radio station originally put him in touch with the group.

Ali Motlaq is a member of The Royalist Association of Iran or Tondar, a terrorist group that has claimed responsibility for the attacks across Iran in the last 5 years. They have killed and wounded hundreds.

Motlaq is currently under arrest for planting bombs and orchestrating the assassination of top Iranian figures.

In an exclusive interview with Press TV's IRAN TODAY, he said he first got in touch with the group through Radio Farda - a Persian language radio station funded by the US State Department.

Iran has criticized the US for not naming the group as a terrorist one. Tondar is in Los Angeles where it has based its radio station and website.

The website says the group is "fighting against the Islamic government and Islamic traditions' that have 'destroyed [Iran's] culture."

Press TV has tried to contact the US State Department but has not yet received any response on the accusations.

In January 2010, the group claimed responsibility for the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Masoud Ali-Mohammadi, who was killed by a remote-controlled bomb attached to a motorcycle outside his home in north Tehran.

The terrorist group had earlier claimed responsibility for the April 12, 2008 bombing of a religious compound in the city of Shiraz, which left 14 people killed and more than 200 others wounded.

#3 our 'support' for Tondar is probably limited to providing publically available info and refraining from some financial prosecutions of Persian mobsters.
