[Townhall] Twelve migrants were arrested this month after illegally entering the United States in northern Minnesota in an apparent human smuggling attempt.
Minneapolis-based outlet KARE 11 reported that the migrants, who were from Ireland and Great Britain, attempted to enter the U.S. over the course of two days in September. Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement reportedly stopped the migrants.
According to a Border Patrol press release, on Sept. 25, a Border Patrol agent was notified that two vehicles made unlawful entry into the states near Roseau, Minnesota. The border patrol agent caught up to one of the vehicles where he determined that one of the passengers was a citizen of Great Britain and the other three were citizens of Ireland. All four were unlawfully in the United States.
The following day, a Border Patrol agent tracked down the second vehicle in Bemidji, Minnesota. The vehicle was unoccupied. The agent spoke to an employee at a nearby hotel who said that a couple had checked in and left shortly before the agent arrived. The agent located the couple and a total of eight migrants from Ireland and Great Britain illegally in the United States.
Reports late last month suggested that the crisis at the southern border was creating issues at the U.S.-Canada border. The Daily Caller reported that Border Patrol agents stationed at the northern border were being pulled to offer support at the southern border, making it more prone to illegal immigration.
"This domino effect all starts on the southwest, but then the effects are felt everywhere because we have to use resources to deal with what’s taking place down south, and when you do that, then of course, you leave yourself wide open in other areas, and that’s what we’re seeing on the North right now," National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd told the Caller, adding that, "everybody thinks that the issue is just the southwest border. It’s not."
Reportedly, authorities encountered just over 96,000 migrants at the northern border between October 2021 and August 22. During the previous fiscal year, agents encountered around 21,000.

[FoxNews] Five people are dead and two others are injured after a shooting in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Thursday afternoon.
Officers said a juvenile suspect was taken into custody at a home around 8 p.m. He wasn't identified because of his age.
Raleigh Police Lt. Jason Borneo called it a "heartbreaking day for our city," adding that every officer in their department is a "brother" or a "sister" and the loss of one of their own is a "tragedy."
Speaking in a second press conference shortly before 11 p.m. ET, authorities said one patient had been released from the hospital and the other is critical condition.
Borneo said the suspect's motive is still unknown at this time and there would be another update at 8:30 in the morning.
Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin said during an earlier press conference that five people are dead as a result of the shooting, adding a Raleigh Police Department officer, who was off-duty, is among those killed.
Baldwin said one of those hospitalized is a K-9 officer.
She said that the Raleigh Police Department responded to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. in the area of the Neuse River Greenway.
The Raleigh Police Department said on Thursday night that the suspect is in custody.
A representative from WakeMed hospital in Raleigh told Fox News Digital that it has received four patients from the incident.
Police in Raleigh tweeted just before 6 p.m. that it was responding to an active shooting on Thursday and were telling residents to "remain in their homes" if they are near Osprey Cove Drive and Bay Harbor Drive.

The shooter is a 15-year-old white male according to the latest reports. He was shooting people on a walking path in the greenbelt adjacent to the neighborhood. The suspect "was taken into custody with life-threatening injuries. It is unknown if the suspect's injuries are self-inflicted."

Multiple people are seen with black metal poles used for roping off areas, video shows. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, 22-year-old Robert Terrell Dubose Jr., of Rome, is accused of breaking the neck of a 3-month-old girl and trying to smother her twin sister while they were both crying during an Oct. 3 incident.
Dubose was arrested on Oct. 11 and booked into the Floyd County Jail.
Floyd County Jail records show he is charged with aggravated assault and two counts of first-degree cruelty to children.
As of Thursday morning, there has not been an update issued on the condition of the babies.
Dubose's relationship to the twins, if any, has not been disclosed.

[FoxNews] As the battle over parental rights and protections for LGBT students heats up in Virginia, one state delegate said she will introduce a bill in the legislature's next session that would make it a crime for a parent or guardian not to affirm their child's sexual orientation or gender identity.
The move is in response to Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin's updated "model policies" on transgender students, which require students to use bathrooms and join sports teams based on their sex at birth, as opposed to their gender identity.

told WJLA on Thursday she will introduce a bill that will expand the state's definition of child abuse and neglect to include parents and guardian who do not affirm their LGBT children.
"The day that Governor Youngkin wanted to implement this policy, I immediately texted the policy lead of that committee and said, this is how we're going to push back," Guzman told the local news outlet.
"It could be a felony, it could be a misdemeanor, but we know that CPS charge could harm your employment, could harm their education, because nowadays many people do a CPS database search before offering employment."
Guzman did not respond to questions from Fox News Digital about the details of her legislation.
In her interview with WJLA, Guzman did not explain what she meant by affirming LGBT children.
Youngkin's embrace of parental rights helped propel him to an upset victory over former democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe last year.
The Virginia Department of Education's new "model policies" that were announced last month argued that the guidelines under the previous administration "disregarded the rights of parents and ignored other legal and constitutional principles that significantly impact how schools educate students, including transgender students."
"This is about restoring power to parents," Youngkin told Fox News last month.
"And let's just be clear, children do not belong to the state. They belong to families. And when a child is wrestling with this kind of decision, a parent should absolutely be the primary counselor adviser and help her in wrestling with this decision."

[Breitbart] A tree trimmer was killed after he fell into a wood chipper in Menlo Park, California, on Tuesday.
According to police, the horrifying accident occurred around 12:50 p.m. at the 900 block of Peggy Lane.
When officers responded, the man was pronounced dead from the injuries he sustained in the accident.
Police noted that the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health would be investigating the worker’s death.
"Cal/OSHA has up to six month[s] to determine if there was a safety issue at the work site and to issue any citations," according to CBS News.
KTVU reported that the worker was employed by the arboricultural firm S.P. McClenahan, a division of Bartlett Tree Experts.
The victim’s identity has not been released, and will not be made public until San Mateo County Coroner’s Office notifies the next of kin.
Police closed the area following the incident, and it will remain closed until the investigation is completed. Authorities released no additional details.
Menlo Park is located approximately 25 miles south of San Francisco and around 20 miles north of San Jose.
