Venezuelan migrants surprised to learn that they will be returned to Mexico under new Biden admin policy
Posturing before the election? Let’s watch and see whether this is reversed afterward.
[FoxNews] Department of Homeland Security announced a new border enforcement operation that will return many Venezuelan migrants to Mexico

A group of roughly 30 Venezuelan migrants were surprised to learn that they will be returned to Mexico under a new Department of Homeland Security policy announced on Wednesday.

Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins approached the migrants in Eagle Pass, Texas, shortly after they were apprehended Thursday.

"Did you know Venezuelans will be returned to Mexico now?" Jenkins asked the group.

"We did not know anything," one migrant said.

"Please receive us, have benevolence with Venezuela, because we are in need," another migrant told Jenkins.

Other migrants said they "have nowhere to go to in Mexico" and that the country "is dangerous."

The Biden administration announced a new border enforcement operation with Mexico that includes a parole program to provide a legal pathway for Venezuelans.

The program, capped at just 24,000 people, requires Venezuelans to have a financial supporter in the U.S., pass security screenings and complete basic health requirements.

"These actions make clear that there is a lawful and orderly way for Venezuelans to enter the United States, and lawful entry is the only way," Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Thursday about the program. "Those who attempt to cross the southern border of the United States illegally will be returned to Mexico and will be ineligible for this process in the future."

The new border enforcement operation will also increase checkpoints at the southern border and crack down on human trafficking operations.

Customs and Border Protection reported more than 25,000 encounters of Venezuelan migrants at the border in August, up from about 6,000 encounters in August of last year.

Afghanistan
Taliban Orders Male Teachers, Students To Sign Pledge To Observe Shari'a Law
[RFERL] The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
has ordered male teachers and high-school students in the southern province of Kandahar to sign a written pledge that they will adhere to the murderous Moslem group's bad boy interpretation of Islamic Shari'a law.

That includes following the Taliban's strict dress code for men, including growing a beard, wearing a turban or Islamic cap, and donning the "pirhan tumban," the traditional baggy shirt and pants common in rural Afghanistan.

Failure to sign or adhere to the pledge, which RFE/RL's Radio Azadi obtained a copy of, can lead to students being expelled from school or teachers losing their jobs, according to locals.

"I...son of...promise that I will follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad and all the principals of Shari'a law," reads the one-page document that was distributed to high schools in Kandahar by the Taliban's provincial education department earlier this month.

Sunnah is the Islamic concept of following the actions, teachings, and sayings of Muhammad. The Koran and Sunnah are the basis of Shari'a law.

The Taliban's order for male teachers and students in the ninth grade and above to sign the pledge has been widely criticized. "This is an irrational step and must be strongly discouraged," a high-school student in Kandahar, who did not want to be named for fear of retribution, told Radio Azadi. "I want the Taliban to stop curbing our freedoms."

"They should stop imposing such bad boy ideas," another high-school student in the province, who said he was forced to sign the pledge, told Radio Azadi.

Another student told Radio Azadi that the Taliban was "very tough" on those who refuse to sign the pledge or violate it, without offering more details.

The Taliban's provincial education department in Kandahar and the Education Ministry front man in Kabul did not respond to Radio Azadi's requests for comment.

The pledge is the latest attempt by the Taliban to police the appearances of Afghan men and women in public.

Since seizing power in August 2021, the Taliban has ordered male babus government employees to grow beards and wear traditional attire or risk being fired. In some areas, men have been forced to attend prayers.

In some parts of Afghanistan, the Taliban has banned Western-style clothing and haircuts.

The gunnies have also imposed strict gender segregation in schools, universities, hospitals, government offices, and public transport. Couples who eat out in restaurants are often questioned and harassed by the Taliban's notorious morality police.

In September, Finance Ministry employees were subjected to a test that gauged their knowledge of Islam. Sources told Radio Azadi that the ministry handed out booklets that outlined the Taliban's take on Islam and then quizzed employees to make sure their beliefs were in line with the requirements. Employees who failed the test were fired.

In June, the Taliban attempted to regulate how Afghan bodybuilders can train and participate in training and competitions. Bodybuilders criticized the Taliban for ordering them to cover up during competitions and even while training in gyms.

Women have borne the brunt of the Taliban's attempts to police Afghans' appearances. The Taliban has enforced strict dress and behavioral codes that require women to cover their faces and restricts their rights to move freely, work, or receive an education.

Many of the Taliban's orders and restrictions are reminiscent of the group's first stint in power from 1996-2001, when its regime deprived Afghans of their most basic rights.

Africa Horn
Amid Al-Shabaab crackdown, Somalia president makes changes in military Court
[Garowe] The president of the federal government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has made radical changes in the Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
of the Armed Forces, a strategic move that would see more prosecution in cases related to violent mostly peaceful extremism within the country.

In his appointment on Wednesday, Hassan Sheikh recalled Liban Ali Yarow to the Supreme Court, about three years after his unceremonious removal by the former President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo, whose fight against al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all of which have enough problems without them...
was always termed as "underwhelming".

Hassan Sheikh, who has intensified the fight against the snuffies across the country, is said to be keen on eliminating the snuffies through both the military and ideologies, a strategy which he says will be rewarding in the long run.

While confirming the changes, Defense Minister Abduqadir Mohammed Noor, who spoke to state media, wished Liban success and an effective role in the war against al-Shabaab terrorists. The court has been instrumental in dispensing high-profile terrorism cases in the Horn of Africa nation.

Throughout his career in the military, Brigadier General Liban served the nation in different positions at the Court of the Armed Forces of Somalia. During Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's first term, he was created for efficiently running the court-martial, which tried many al-Shabaab criminals.

Minister Noor noted Liban was named "to accelerate the role of the Armed Forces Court which is more important in the nationwide anti-terror offensives". The new Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Armed Forces comes at the time the country is confronting al-Shabaab turbans.

For several weeks now, the country has been confronting al-Shabaab in several parts especially within Galgaduud, Hiiraan and Bay regions, with the Somali National Army alongside local militia recording dozens of victories, which left over 200 snuffies dead.

The United States which has been instrumental in the fight against al-Shabaab has been providing aerial surveillance with the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...

Europe
Germany: Cologne Central Mosque to start calling Muslims to prayer
[DW] Cologne
...the largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth populated city in Germany....
's mayor said allowing the muezzin call to be heard was "a sign of respect." Some are however concerned over the involvement of a Ottoman Turkish-Islamic umbrella group at the mosque.

Germany's largest mosque will broadcast the call to prayer for the first time on Friday.
Islam means submission.
It comes as part of an agreement between the Central Mosque of Cologne and the city authorities.

"We're very happy," Abdurrahman Atasoy, general secretary of the the Ottoman Turkish government's religious affairs authority in Germany, DITIB, which runs the mosque, said.

"The public call to prayer is a sign that Moslems are at home here," he added.

Cologne mayor Henriette Reker said allowing the call to prayer was "a sign of respect" for the city's many Moslems.

Cologne has more than 100,000 Moslem residents.

MOSQUE TO COMPLY WITH STRICT LIMITS
Mosques in several cities in Germany have long been authorized to broadcast the call to prayer, but Cologne only approved it late last year.

The large mosque in the Ehrenfeld district will be the first in the city to send out the muezzin call to Friday Prayers. Other mosques in the city have also expressed interest in taking part in the two-year pilot project.

Under the agreement, Cologne's Central Mosque will be allowed to send out a single call to prayer over loudspeakers for up to five minutes on Fridays, between noon and 3:00 pm. The volume cannot exceed 60 decibels.

CONTROVERSY OVER MOSQUE'S FUNDERS
Cologne's Central Mosque has been a flashpoint for anti-Moslem sentiment in the past and it has been denounced particularly over of the involvement of DITIB.

Critics have accused the organization of spying on Ottoman Turkish dissidents living in Germany.

Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important...
formally inaugurated the Mosque himself during a controversial visit to Germany in September 2018.

Murat Kayman, who serves on the advisory board of the Alhambra Society, an association of liberal Moslems, welcomed the fact that the muezzin call was possible but he warned DITIB "stands for everything, but not for democratic conditions and freedom."

He’s not being tried for a blowj0b.

Anyway, it would cripple Biden for the next two years so he doesn’t do even more damage to the Republic.

Plus, Mittens Romney can jump in and save us from President Kamala by voting not to convict. John Roberts can dust off Rehnquist’s funky Lord High Executioner robes, and we can all enjoy the spectacle of Biden’s Freakshow appointees lying and squirming they’re way through the trial.

He tried to rig an election by suborning a foreign power — what his own party now calls a hostile foreign power — to punk Americans with a $1 a gallon gas increase.

It doesn’t get more quid pro-y than this.

The US relationship with the Saudis isn't going anywhere. They are still the world's filling station and our client state. We must control the world's energy. Why do you think we started this war with Russia? Control of energy.

If the Saudis keep messing around they'll get invaded just like Iraq, Syria and all the rest. Look for the CIA to regime change MBS before that happens though. Remember the Venezuelan coup of 2002? Like that.

Iraq
Abdullatif Rashid elected as President of Iraq
[Shafaq News] Iraq’s parliament elected Abdullatif Rashid as the country’s new president.

Earlier today, the presidential election went to a run-off vote as Rashid (147 votes) outperformed incumbent president Barham Salih (98 votes) but failed to muster the backing of a supermajority.

The new President is expected to appoint Mohammed Shiya'a al-Sudani as a new Prime Minister, the largest bloc's candidate for the premiership, so he can start forming the new cabinet within 30 days of his appointment.

Iraqis last voted on October 10, 2021 in an election triggered by a wave of mass protests against endemic corruption, rampant unemployment and decaying infrastructure.

The country has yet to form a new government after last year’s election, leaving caretaker Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in charge.

Rival Shiite parties in parliament have been vying for influence and the right to select a new premier and government.

The standoff has seen both sides set up protest camps and at times has sparked deadly street festivities in Baghdad.

Related: Rudaw has a great deal more to say about President Rashid’s resumé.

The session was boycotted by the FPM-led Strong Lebanon bloc as it coincided with the anniversary of Aoun's ouster at the end of the civil war in 1990 when the Syrian Army stormed the Baabda Palace, killing hundreds of Lebanese soldiers and civilians.

Hezbollah MPs, who still haven't agreed on a name for the next president, came to Parliament but did not attend the session in solidarity with the FPM.

"We call for consensus instead of confrontation," Fadlallah said, adding that naming a candidate who cannot become a president is a waste of time. "It will not lead to any results."

A first voting round last month saw politician Michel Mouawad emerge as a frontrunner in the presidential race, but he fell far below the number of votes needed.

Fadlallah dismissed Mouawad's bid. "A challenge candidate will lead to more delays," he said.

Mouawad, who had garnered 36 votes from the opposition MPs in the first presidential election session, accused some parties of attempting to obstruct the election of a new president.

Fresh clues found in Syria on missing IS hostages
Good to know.
[An Nahar] New details on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group's former detention centers for foreign hostages in Syria and on grave sites offer clues on where victims may be buried, a rights group said Thursday.

The U.S.-based Syrian Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC) said it had managed to pinpoint the exact locations of seven detention facilities once run by the jihadist group.

It said it had identified three potential burial grounds after monitoring U.S. court proceedings against a member of the notorious IS kidnap-and-murder cell dubbed "the Beatles".

The four-member cell, named after the pop band by their captives because of their British accents, was allegedly involved in the abductions of at least 27 people in Syria from 2012 to 2015.

The hostages, some of whom were released after their governments paid ransoms, were from at least 15 countries, including the United States, Denmark, La Belle France, Japan, Norway and Spain.

The IS tortured and killed their victims, including by beheading, and released videos of the murders for propaganda purposes.

The rights group said that, to corroborate information and trace hostage movements, it conducted further interviews with former hostages, victims' relatives and a second IS "Beatles" member who pleaded guilty in the United States.

Information collected during the proceedings "provided evidence regarding the possible resting sites for both foreign and Syrian hostages known to be executed," the report said.

"Executions and burials often occurred at some distance from detention centers," in some cases less than a mile away, it added.

Two potential grave sites are believed to be located south of Raqa city, once the IS group's de facto Syria capital, SJAC researcher Gabriel Young said.

A third potential burial spot was identified in Idlib province, now Syria's last major opposition bastion, he told AFP.

The rights group said it would conduct further investigations into the sites to confirm whether they contain corpses.

In March, a U.S. trial opened against "Beatles" member El Shafee Elsheikh, who is accused of involvement in the murders of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and relief workers Peter Kassig and Kayla Mueller.

Another former cell member, Alexanda Amon Kotey, pleaded guilty in a U.S. court in September 2021 and is facing life in prison.
