[Vegas Sun] Tiny specks of this powerful synthetic opioid can prove fatal even when ingested unknowingly: Fentanyl killed 219 people in the Las Vegas Valley in 2020, about a 200% increase from the previous year.
Recently, while the country was ravaged by the opioid crisis, Clark County saw a drop in annual deaths blamed on all opioids from 2015 to 2018, the year with the lowest figure in at least a decade.
Since then, those numbers have soared.
"We said fentanyl was coming," Metro Police Capt. John Pelletier told reporters Thursday. "Fentanyl is here."
Asked how this year was going, he answered succinctly: "not good."
Fentanyl deaths are on par with the "alarming" 30% increase in total overdose deaths in 2020, when 768 people succumbed to them, compared with 591 in 2019, Pelletier said, noting that fentanyl killed 31 people in August, an average of one a day.
Metro on Thursday announced the creation of the Overdose Response Team, a task force that comprises agencies such as local police departments, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and local and federal prosecutors that "if possible," authorities would pursue murder cases for dealers accused of killing their clients with drugs. He didn’t expound on how the task force would operate.
The pair were both shot during the incident at the Westroads Mall near JC Penney around noon on Saturday.
This is the second reported shooting at Westroads Mall in a little more than a month. Omaha Police Officer Jeffrey Wittstruck was shot at four times by a 21-year-old man who was accused of shoplifting T-shirts from J.C. Penney on March 12. Wittstruck survived.
The J.C. Penney is about 200 feet from Von Maur, where a gunman killed eight people and himself in 2007.
Wisconsin shooting at Kenosha lakeside bar leaves 3 dead: reports
[FoxNews] A manhunt for an armed suspect was underway in Kenosha, Wisconsin, early Sunday morning after gunfire at a bar left three people dead and two seriously wounded, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department.
It happened at the Somers House, a tavern near the shore of Lake Michigan that's popular with people from the Carthage College community down the road, the Kenosha News reported.
The sheriff's department called the shooting "targeted" and said they don't believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
Shortly after 7.30pm, a gunman opened fire at the event, killing one person and injuring five more, according to a Columbus Police Department spokesperson. "Mostly peaceful"

As long as the media publishes these attacks and fails to follow up with arrests and those arrested are only slapped on the wrists... There will be little association with CRIME, JUSTICE & PUNISHMENT.
Thus only putting the idea into more ticked off B-holes seeking to show their A$$e$ . No Big Deal.

People need a bit more situational awareness. I know it's tough when they come up from behind but every video of seen the victim seemed totally unaware of their surroundings and I believe that was one of the main reasons they were selected.
[NYPOST] As the headmaster of the famed Dalton School resigned over controversial race-based curriculum and policies, another storied Manhattan prep school faced a father’s public wrath over the same issue.
Dalton School’s Jim Best announced he was leaving Friday to pursue "other exciting and inspiring opportunities" after 16 years at the school. His departure came after months of controversy at the Upper East Side academic bastion over the school’s "anti-racism" focus.
At the same time, a father at the equally prestigious, $54,000-a-year Brearley School sent a scathing, nearly 1700-word letter to the institution’s roughly 600 families over Brearley’s "obsession with race."
The letter by Andrew Gutmann, first published in Bari Weiss’ Substack, explained why he was pulling his daughter out of the Upper East Side school after seven years. She started there in kindergarten.
"It should be abundantly clear to any thinking parent that Brearley has completely lost its way," Gutmann wrote. "The administration and the Board of Trustees have displayed a cowardly and appalling lack of leadership by appeasing an anti-intellectual, illiberal mob."
He went on to say that he objects "to the view that I should be judged by the color of my skin. I cannot tolerate a school that not only judges my daughter by the color of her skin, but encourages and instructs her to prejudge others by theirs.
"By viewing every element of education, every aspect of history, and every facet of society through the lens of skin color and race, we are desecrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and utterly violating the movement for which such civil rights leaders believed, fought, and died."
Gutmann’s most controversial claim in the letter was objecting to what he said was the school’s belief in "systemic racism."
"Systemic racism, apparently supported by Brearley, that any educational, professional, or societal outcome where Blacks are underrepresented is prima facie evidence of the aforementioned systemic racism, or of white supremacy ...the pernicious doctrine that laws were intended to be obeyed, that society works better when people don't pour shreiking from their places of worship every Friday for a weekend of rioting over insults real or imagined; and that cannibalism, beastiality, incest, murder, theft, rape, and similar activities are bad. A Dead White European (which invalidates his opinion) philosopher once opined that societies thrive when a person's word can be relied upon, and that a society which puts individual happiness first will invariably fail. Strangely enough, other successful societies, such as China, Japan, Korea, and those kinds of places could also be lumped with white supremacist societies, since they push the same values... and oppression," he wrote.
Brearley head of school fired back Friday with her own missive to the school’s families, calling Gutmann’s letter "deeply offensive and harmful."
"This afternoon, I and others who work closely with Upper School students met with more than one hundred of them, many of whom told us that they felt frightened and intimidated by the letter and the fact that it was sent directly to our homes," Jane Fried wrote. "Our students noted that as this letter, which denies the presence of systemic racism, crossed their doorways, the evidence of ongoing racism — systemic or otherwise — is daily present in our headlines."
Gutmann told the Post Saturday that he stood by his letter and expressed scorn for Fried’s contention that upper school students would be "frightened" by a letter.

Caviezel, 52, was promoting his new film about child trafficking but then went on to speak about 'adrenochroming' which is part of a fringe QAnon conspiracy
The theory suggests that people are harvesting adrenaline from children, an act called 'adrenochroming' which elites can then use as an elixir of life
QAnon believers think that adrenochrome halts and reverses the aging process

The Stanford studies in mice suggest there may be something to this. When clinics started opening to offer donated young person blood transfusions a few years ago the FDA shut them down FAST.
Looking at her photo at the link, what they’d see is the sum of all her plastic surgeries, botox treatments, and collagen filling, with the original skin somewhat tenuously holding it all in. Some go into acting because they are so full to bursting that they need the adventures of other people and places to bleed off some of the energy; others go into acting to fill the emptiness of their souls. Ms Fonda is the second type.

Maybe the best ER/trauma surgeons of this century will be trained in Southside and Westside Chicago.

Will they be eligible for a right shoulder patch and combat medic badge after a six month deployment? Going to and from work will be car more dangerous than a billet at Bagram.

Just getting to your car in the parking lot will be far more dangerous, unless that was what you were trying to say NMBS.

The military has trained medical personnel at inner city trauma centers for many years. Most realistic training outside of a war. Also, advances made during war time also feed back into civilian trauma care.
As for commuting: MRAPs, remote weapon stations optional.

When I was in Ranger Club during ROTC, we practiced for our version of this and it was brutal. The real version is 100x harder and I have nothing but absolute respect for anyone who attempts it, much less wins. I honestly believe this competition would leave many Olympic athletes crying, it's so hard.

[Just The News] Scientists this week revealed their successful efforts to develop stable human-monkey embryos, an experiment they claim could have important implications for areas such as organ development and replacement.
The breakthrough, announced in the journal Cell, came from an international team of scientists, including some at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, CA. The scientists claimed to have "studied the chimeric competency of human extended pluripotent stem cells" in "cynomolgus monkey" embryos.
A "chimera" is a genetic organism with "at least two different sets of DNA." The scientists in the recent study revealed that human cells implanted into monkey embryos "survived, proliferated, and generated several peri- and early post-implantation cell lineages" inside those embryos.

[AnNahar] The junta is planning to release more than 23,000 prisoners nationwide, an official said Saturday, even as the military continues to detain and issue arrest warrants for anti-coup dissidents.
Myanmar typically grants an annual amnesty to thousands of prisoners to mark its traditional Buddhist New Year holiday -- which in previous years have been joyous affairs with city-wide water fights.
But this year, with the military back in power after ousting civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi, anti-coup activists have used the holiday as an opportunity to protest the growing corpse count and mass arrests.
It remains unclear whether anti-junta protesters or journalists placed in durance vile Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! covering the coup will be among those freed.
A prison official told AFP on condition of anonymity that jails across the country will start freeing more than 23,000 people on Saturday.
"We will release more than 800 prisoners from Insein prison" in commercial hub Yangon, he added, declining to elaborate.
In February, the junta released a similar number of prisoners, with some rights groups at the time fearing the move was to free up space for opponents of the military as well as cause chaos in communities.
On Wednesday a rebel group executed a man who had been freed in that amnesty, who it said had subsequently raped and killed a five-year-old girl.
Just before Armed Forces Day, the regime also freed around 900 placed in durance vile Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! demonstrators.
But since the February 1 coup, more than 3,100 people -- the bulk of them anti-coup protesters and activists -- have been detained, according to local monitoring group Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.
The junta has issued nightly arrest warrants on state-run media, targeting celebrities, influencers, journalists and prominent activists with large social media followings.
By Friday night, they totalled 380.
Some 80 doctors have also been named as wanted runaways for attempting to "deteriorate peace and stability".
Myanmar's healthcare workers have been at the forefront of a nationwide civil disobedience movement, refusing to return to work under a military regime. Their absence has left many of the country's hospitals unstaffed during the pandemic.
The country has been under the junta's control for 11 weeks.
The military has consistently justified the putsch by alleging widespread fraud in November's elections, which Suu Kyi's party had won in a landslide.
[FOX] In an effort to fight insect-borne viruses like Zika, dengue fever and malaria, genetically modified mosquitoes are set to be released in the Florida Keys.
U.K.-based biotechnology company Oxitec has partnered with the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District in an effort to control the invasive and disease-spreading female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in the region.
Oxitec's male mosquitoes -- which don't bite, unlike the recently-discovered yellow fever-carrying Aedes scapularis mosquitoes -- will be introduced in small areas in a select number of neighborhoods between mile markers 10 and 93 in the Keys.
