Afghan, Pakistan Taliban kill 28 in attacks on provincial police HQs
[REUTERS] Four suicide kaboomers on Tuesday stormed a provincial police headquarters in eastern Afghanistan, killing 22 police, an official said. Taliban forces of Evil immediately grabbed credit.

The attack in Pashtun-infested Logar province outside the capital, Kabul, was the latest to target Afghan cops following the withdrawal of most foreign combat troops at the end of last year.

In neighbouring Pakistain, another Taliban suicide attack on a provincial police headquarters killed at least seven people in the eastern city of Lahore, in what turbans called a Dire Revenge bid for the recent hangings of their colleagues.

The Afghan and Pak Taliban are separate groups that share the goal of establishing hard-line Islamic rule.

In the Afghan assault, the four attackers rushed the gates of the police compound in early afternoon, with one detonating his explosives-filled vest at the main gate and killing one policeman, Pashtun-infested Logar government front man Din Mohammad Darwish said.

The attack triggered a 25-minute battle with police, he said.

Another of the turbans reached the station's dining hall, killing 21 police and wounding seven when he detonated his vest, said Abdul Wali Toofan, Pashtun-infested Logar's deputy police chief. The other two attackers were killed with no further casualties.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a front man for the Taliban, grabbed credit on his official Twitter feed.

Somalia's Islamist rebels kill four airport workers in capital
[Ynet] Islamist gunnies killed four airport workers in a drive-by shooting in the centre of Mogadishu on Monday, the police and rebels said, showing the rebels can still carry out attacks in the capital even as they lose territory in the countryside.

The Mogadishu airport's deputy director was one of the people killed, according to Nur Ismail, a police officer. The attack took place near the airport in K4, a bustling business district. "Armed men in a car opened fire on Mogadishu airport aviation workers," Ismail said. "The workers died then and there and the attackers escaped."

[Libya Herald] There are reports that at least 35 Egyptians have been kidnapped in what appears to be a round-up at various locations in areas controlled by Ansar Al-Sharia and IS.

The Libya Herald has been told that starting this morning, in the wake of the attack on Derna by warplanes from Egypt, Egyptian nationals, many of them it seems farm workers, have been picked up by gunmen. The first reports were that seven men had been seized, but by mid-afternoon, it was being said that at least 35 had been reported missing.

Nigeria Claims Recapture of Key Town from Boko Haram
[AnNahar] Nigeria's military on Monday claimed the recapture of Monguno, a garrison town in northeast Borno state, after it was seized by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Islamist Lions of Islam last month.

The bandidos holy warriors suffered casualties and the military operation disrupted an attempt to re-supply fighters in the flashpoint town of Baga with weapons and food, a statement said.

"Troops in a military operation spearheaded by highly coordinated air assaults have completed the mission of clearing Death Eaters from Monguno and environs this morning," defense front man Chris Olukolade said.

Boko Haram seized Monguno on January 25, taking hold of a military base and a cache of weapons, after overpowering troops based in the town.

Losing Monguno was seen as a tough blow for the military given its proximity to Borno's capital Maiduguri, which Boko Haram has long eyed as a takeover target.

Fears that Boko Haram would use Monguno as a launching pad for an attack on Maiduguri were confirmed on February 1, when the Islamists stormed the state capital, before being repelled.

The military's claims of successes over Boko Haram have often been inconsistent with witness accounts but if confirmed the recapture of Monguno would add to a growing list of army victories this month.

According to defence officials, a new cooperation with neighboring militaries -- including Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, Chad and Niger -- has put the Salafist tough guys on the defensive, with several towns under rebel control retaken.

But the insurgency has persisted, including a huge assault of Gombe city Saturday by scores of bandidos holy warriors and a suicide kaboom in Yobe state's capital Damaturu on Sunday that killed 13.

Four Killed in South Yemen Clashes
[AnNahar] Four people were killed when pro-president paramilitaries in Yemen's main southern city of Aden seized the state broadcaster from police allegedly controlled by Shiite Huthi militiamen, medics said on Monday.

Members of the so-called Popular Resistance Committees of pro-army rustics attacked special police guarding the complex, sparking fighting that lasted until dawn, PRC chief Hussain al-Wuhayshi said.

Medics at the city's Al-Jumhuriyah Hospital said two people on each side were killed.

On January 12, President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi appointed General Abdulrazaq al-Merwani, a Shiite known for his close ties to the Huthi militia that has seized power in Sanaa, as chief of the police special forces.

But less than a month later, on February 6, the Huthis ousted the government and dissolved parliament, tightening their grip after the Western-backed Hadi resigned in protest as the militia sought to extend its hold over the country.

The Popular Resistance Committees, loyal to Hadi, accuse the special police of cooperating with the Huthis.

"They are facilitating the entry of Huthi fighters into Aden to seize the city," Wuhayshi told AFP.

On Sunday, politicians and governors of three southern provinces -- Aden, Lahij, and Mahra -- formed a local group to oppose what they branded as the Huthi "coup".

They demanded Hadi's reinstatement and affirmed their support for Yemen becoming a federation based on the outcome of a national dialogue held last year.

following a joint raid by the north-west counter-terrorism unit (NWCTU) and Merseyside police.

He was named as Mohammed Ammer Ali, of Prescot Road, Liverpool, and will appear at Westminster magistrates court on Tuesday.

The charge followed an investigation by NWCTU and Merseyside police, according to Greater Manchester police (GMP).

He is accused of attempting to have a chemical weapon in his possession between 10 January and 12 February, contrary to the Criminal Attempts Act 1981 and the Chemical Weapons Act 1996.

Police seized a number of items during searches at five addresses in Merseyside on 11 February.

Both GMP and Merseyside police said that at this time no plan or threat of an imminent attack either at home or abroad had been uncovered.

Jewish cemetary in Germany vandalized.
[Haaretz] After the defilement of Jewish graves in France Germany becomes second crime scene within a few days. A Jewish cemetery in the northern German city of Oldenburg was desecrated.

Swastikas were daubed on the entrance columns, a wall and two cars parked near the cemetery over the weekend, the Oldenburger Online newspaper reported. Police are investigating.

Over the past few years, the cemetery has been targeted by right-wing extremists, one of whom was sentenced to two years’ probation for throwing paint balls on the gravestones.
A cowardly venue, attacking the dead.
It's tough when there are ever fewer living Jews to attack, except in the U.S. and Israel. What's left for a good Jew-hater to do?

Suspected accomplices of Denmark shooter jailed for 10 days
[IsraelTimes] Defense attorney says case against his two clients 'thin'; men deny accusations of helping killer evade cops

Two men suspected of helping the gunman behind the deadly attacks in Copenhagen were incarcerated
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
for 10 days Monday as Danes mourned the victims of a shooting spree that authorities said may have been inspired by last month's terror attacks in Gay Paree.

They were accused of helping the gunman evade authorities and get rid of a weapon during the manhunt that ended early Sunday when the attacker was killed in a shootout with police, said Michael Juul Eriksen, the defense attorney for one of the two suspects.

Prosecutors had asked a judge to place them in four weeks of solitary confinement and the relatively short period of detention suggests the case against the men is "thin," added Juul Eriksen's assistant, Anders Rohde.

Rohde was speaking to news hounds after a four-hour custody hearing held behind closed doors for the men, who were not named.

Denmark's red-and-white flag flew at half-staff from official buildings Monday across the capital. Mourners placed flowers and candles at the cultural center where documentary filmmaker Finn Noergaard, 55, was killed and at the synagogue where Dan Uzan, a 37-year-old security guard, was bumped off.

There was also a smaller mound of flowers on the street at the location where the gunman was slain.

The prime ministers of Denmark and Sweden were expected to join thousands of people at memorials in Copenhagen on Monday evening.

Five French Teens Held for Vandalizing Jewish Graves
Pierre, Francois, Jean-Luc?
Five adolescents aged 15 to 17 have been detained for questioning in eastern La Belle France over the vandalism of Jewish graves, a local prosecutor said on Monday.

All five are from the region of Sarre-Union in Alsace, where around 300 tombs were defaced and damaged on Thursday.

The youngest came forward after being shocked by the massive reaction across the country to the vandalism, prosecutor Philippe Vannier said.

"Apparently, he was very very affected by the scale of the reaction to this affair, including the statements from the highest state authorities," Vannier told news hounds.

The boy, who was encouraged to hand himself in by one of his friends, has denied any anti-Semitic motive, Vannier added.
He's similarly vandalized Catholic and Muslim graveyards, then? Perhaps sprayed the Star of David in Muslim gravestones and pentagrams on the Christian ones to be equally insulting?
"We don't know the motives of these adolescents who don't have past criminal records and we don't know of any ideological convictions that could explain their behaviour.

"They are very very shocked by the turn of events."
Punishment starts with them cleaning up all the damage they did.
The five boys pushed over tombstones in the cemetery and opened up vaults. A monument to the victims of the Holocaust at the entrance was also vandalized.

The incident was condemned by the government, with Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve calling it "a despicable act" on Sunday, while Prime Minister Manuel Valls described it as "anti-Semitic and ignoble" on Twitter.

It is not the first time that a Jewish cemetery in Sarre-Union has been targeted. In 1988, around 60 Jewish steles were knocked over, and 54 tombs were wrecked in 2001.
Apparently we're not to learn if their names were actually Henri Alkateb, Michel Sahnoun, and Toulouse Hannachi.

Pakistan Claims Killing of Shiite Massacre Mastermind
[AnNahar] Pak officials said Monday they had killed the criminal mastermind behind a suicide kaboom at a mosque which killed 61 Shiite Moslems last month.

The January 30 blast hit the mosque in the Shikarpur district of the southern province of Sindh as hundreds of worshippers attended Friday prayers.

"We have been chasing Usman Saifullah Kurd since a long time. We finally got him yesterday and he was killed in the exchange of fire," Akbar Hussain Durrani, home secretary of the southwestern province of Balochistan

where Kurd was killed, told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"Kurd was a key commander of the Sunni hardliner group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LeJ) and was involved in the Shikarpur attack and many other major attacks in Sindh and Balochistan provinces, particularly against the Shiites and Hazara communities," he added.

Durrani said security forces received a tip that Kurd was having lunch at a restaurant in the city of Quetta, Balochistan's scenic provincial capital, where the LeJ group is particularly active.

"Kurd and his accomplices fired at the forces when they entered the restaurant, and in retaliation was killed along with another accomplice," he said.

"Two soldiers were also injured in the operation while another myrmidon was locked away
Please don't kill me!
alive."

A security bigshot in Quetta said Kurd was the main instigator behind the Shikarpur assault, and confirmed the details of the raid.

Hundreds of Shiites from the Hazara ethnic group have been killed in numerous attacks by the LeJ in Balochistan. The province is also rife with separatist militancy and is a no-go area for many Paks.

The sectarian violence has however now spread to the rest of the country as well. On February 13 a total of 22 Shiite Moslems were killed in the northwestern city of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. when three jacket wallahs attacked their mosque during main Friday prayers.

The country has stepped up its fight against forces of Evil since Taliban gunnies massacred more than 150 people, most of them children, at a school in Peshawar in December.

Iraq
Islamic State militants 'burn to death 45 in Iraq'
Exactly who these people were and why they were killed is not clear, but Col Qasim al-Obeidi said he believed some were members of the security forces.

IS fighters captured much of the town, near Ain al-Asad air base, last week.

Col Obeidi said a compound that houses the families of security personnel and local officials was now under attack.

He pleaded for help from the government and the international community.

The fighting and poor communications in the area make it difficult to confirm such reports.

Earlier this month, IS published a video showing militants burning alive a Jordanian air force pilot, whose plane crashed in Syria in December.

Siege
Al-Baghdadi had been besieged for months by Islamic State fighters before its fall on Thursday.

It had been one of the few towns to still be controlled by the Iraqi government in Anbar province, where IS and allied Sunni Arab tribesmen launched an offensive in January 2014.

Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm John Kirby told reporters on Friday that al-Baghdadi's capture needed to be put in perspective.

He said it was the first time in the last couple of months that the jihadist group had taken new ground.

However, Ain al-Asad air base, where about 320 US Marines are training members of the Iraqi army's 7th Division, is only 8km (5 miles) away.

The base was itself attacked by IS militants, among them several suicide bombers, on Friday. The militants were eventually repelled by Iraqi troops backed by US-led coalition aircraft.

In a separate development on Tuesday, the influential Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr announced he was withdrawing his forces from an umbrella group of Shia militia fighting IS alongside the Iraqi army.

He cited what he called the bad behaviour of other militia within the Popular Mobilisation Forces, whom he accused of "wreaking havoc through murdering, kidnapping and violating sanctuaries".

Shia militia have been accused of kidnapping and killing scores of Sunni civilians since Islamic State launched an offensive in northern Iraq last June that saw it seize large swathes of the country.

(IS) group, Jordan's information minister said on Monday.

The move comes a week after the United Arab Emirates deployed an F-16 squadron to Jordan to take part in the air strikes against the jihadists who control swathes of Iraq and Syria.

"This move highlights the brotherly ties between Jordan and Bahrain, and comes in line with our belief in the importance of the war against terrorism," Information Minister Mohammad al-Momani told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"Jordan appreciates the support provided by Bahrain, as we also appreciate UAE support too."

The UAE had suspended its participation in the air campaign against IS in Syria after a Jordanian pilot was captured by the jihadists in December but resumed it last week after IS posted grisly video of the airman's murder.

Bahraini state media did not specify the number of aircraft that had been sent to Jordan on Sunday but said the deployment was to assist in "international efforts to eliminate terrorism."

Jordan jails senior Brotherhood official for criticizing UAE

Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
the deputy head of the country's Moslem Brüderbund on Sunday for publicly criticizing the United Arab Emirates, in a verdict his lawyer described as illegal and an attack on free speech.

The military court sentenced Zaki Bani Rushaid to 18 months in prison after convicting him of souring ties with a foreign country, a judicial source said.

He is the most high-profile political figure in decades to be imprisoned in Jordan, a U.S. ally that has so far been spared the turmoil that has spread across much of the Middle East following the Arab Spring revolts.

Bani Rushaid was jugged

Nine dead in rebel fire on Syria's Aleppo
[ARA] Nine people, including three children, were killed Monday in rebel fire on a government-held neighborhood in Syria's northern city of Aleppo, Syria's state news agency SANA said.

It said they were killed in Hay al-Seryan, in government-controlled west Aleppo, but gave no further details.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based activist group that monitors the war, also reported nine deaths, but said that 4 children had been killed.

It said another 20 people were maimed.

Once Syria's industrial powerhouse, Aleppo has been divided between government control in the west of the city and opposition control in the east since shortly after fighting began there in mid-2012.

Government forces regularly carry out Arclight airstrikes on rebel-held neighborhoods.

More than 210,000 people have been killed in Syria's conflict, which began with peaceful demonstrations in 2011, but devolved into civil war after a government crackdown on protesters.

Syrian regime transfer political prisoners to new detention centers
[ARA] The Syrian regime forces transferred hundreds of political prisoners from Adra central prison in Damascus to other detention centers in Syria, including the central prisons of Hamah, Sweida, Tartous, Homs and Latakia.

Speaking to ARA News in Damascus, civil rights activist Ahmed Sabbagh said that the pro-regime forces moved about 1500 prisoners from the Central Prison of Adra in Damascus suburb to other prisons in other Syrian cities, "after the battles between Assad forces and opposition fighters started to approach the town of Adra".

Syrian activists considered the transfer process illegal and a violation to the international standards of prisoners' rights, and that the regime forces have committed abuses against some of the detainees who were transferred to other prisons, especially in the central prison of Hamah, which is known for the systematic torture towards prisoners.

The pro-Assad forces have transferred detained director of the Syrian Center for Freedom of Expression, Mazen Darwish, from Adra to the central prison of Hama, according to a statement issued by the center ‐run by Darwish's colleagues.

In other developments, the pro-regime forces imposed a siege on the town of Muadamiyat al-Sham in the western countryside of Damascus, to prevent potential advance by rebels of the Free Syrian Army

group (IS/ISIS) were killed during attacks by the Kurdish fighters of the People's Protection Units (YPG) in the countryside of Hasakah in northeastern Syria, the YPG's Media Center reported.

Officials of the YPG's Media Center told ARA News their units carried out "strategic military operations" against IS forces of Evil near the village of Tweina (10 km west of Hasakah city), which resulted in the destruction of an IS-led armored vehicle.

"Our (YPG) units also clashed with another terrorist group, killing 5 and wounding some others."

"In the village of Matfina, our fighters were able to kill four IS forces of Evil and injure at least two others," the YPG's Media Center reported.

The Kurdish fighters of the YPG also attacked IS strongholds in Abu Rifaa farm near al-Kharita Square in southern Hasakah, killing eight IS hard boys.

ARA News could not verify the exact number of the YPG's losses in the recent battles.

Speaking to ARA News, Jomerd Temir, a member of the YPG forces in Hasakah, said their units carried out Monday evening another attack against IS headquarters on the road linking Tel Temir town to Hasakah city, which resulted in the destruction of a number of the group's manned-vehicles. No reports of casualties.

The military operations expanded in the countryside of Hasakah, where festivities broke out between the pro-Assad forces and the Islamic State turbans in the eastern and southern countryside of Hasakah, while similar festivities continue between the YPG forces and IS bully boyz in the western countryside of the city.

UAE Says Renewed Air Strikes Hit IS Oil Refineries
[AnNahar] Renewed air strikes by the United Arab Emirates against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group have hit oil refineries run by the jihadists, the state news agency reported on Monday.

F-16 fighter jets based in Jordan "targeted oil refineries controlled by the Daesh (Islamic State) organization, with the aim of drying up its sources of finance," the WAM agency said, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

It said the strikes took place last Tuesday and Thursday but did not specify the location of the targets.

A U.S.-led coalition of Western and Arab nations launched air strikes against IS last year after the jihadist group seized control of large parts of Iraq and Syria.

The UAE had suspended its strikes after the jihadists captured a Jordanian pilot whose plane went down in December. He was later brutally murdered by IS in a video posted online.

But the UAE said last Tuesday it had resumed the strikes, after deploying a squadron of F-16s to Jordan on February 8.

Abu Dhabi had reportedly sought and obtained guarantees from Washington on boosting its ability to rescue downed coalition pilots.

Coalition strikes have frequently targeted oil facilities seized by the jihadists, who according to some estimates earn more than $1 million per day from oil sales.
