following a joint raid by the north-west counter-terrorism unit (NWCTU) and Merseyside police.

He was named as Mohammed Ammer Ali, of Prescot Road, Liverpool, and will appear at Westminster magistrates court on Tuesday.

The charge followed an investigation by NWCTU and Merseyside police, according to Greater Manchester police (GMP).

He is accused of attempting to have a chemical weapon in his possession between 10 January and 12 February, contrary to the Criminal Attempts Act 1981 and the Chemical Weapons Act 1996.

Police seized a number of items during searches at five addresses in Merseyside on 11 February.

Both GMP and Merseyside police said that at this time no plan or threat of an imminent attack either at home or abroad had been uncovered.

#1  What sort of chemical weapon? Your basic household cleaner bomb or something more sinister?

And yeah, I'm surprised as you that 'a man from Liverpool' isn't named John, George, Paul or Richard.
