#2 We import most of our oil and gas. Why is local production always seen as particularly damaging to the greenhouse effect or the ozone layer?

#4 Apart from the obvious dumbness here, I've always thought it was a pernicious idea that a tax break is a "subsidy".

The implication is that all money belongs to the government, and we only get to keep anything due to its sufferance.

#5 What will it take for the government to conclude that nationalization of the domestic oil industry is the solution to some perceived problem (lines, high prices, CO2 emissions, etc.)?

#6 How many years after the nationalization will government conclude that they actually need to drill instead of railing against drillers?

And will they have any money to reverse policy with, or will they just look wistfully at all the drilling rigs that used to be offfshore of the US, and are now offshore of Brazil?

(For those who don't know, _today_ some 70% of the world's deepwater drilling capacity is currenty under contract to Petrobras).
