#2  The Daily Mail article has updated since lord garth posted it, Mike, and now has the following, directly addressing your comment:

Boeing 737 Max jets investigated after Indonesia plane crash:

Boeing issued a safety warning last November about its new 737 Max jets which could have a fault that causes them to nose-dive.

The special bulletin sent to operators was about a sensor problem flagged by Indonesian safety officials investigating the crash of a Lion Air 737 that killed 189 people just a week before the memo was sent.

Since the 737 Max was unveiled in 2017, 350 of the jets have been bought, with around a further future 4,761 orders placed.

More than 40 airlines around the world use the 737 Max, which has four kinds in the fleet, numbered 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Airlines such as Norwegian Air, Air China, TUI, Air Canada, United Airlines, American Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Icelandair and FlyDubai.

The 8 series, which was involved in the crash in Indonesia, has been flying the longest of all the Maxes.

Boeing said in November that local aviation officials believed pilots may have been given wrong information by the plane's automated systems before the fatal crash.

An AOA sensor provides data about the angle at which wind is passing over the wings and tells pilots how much lift a plane is getting.

According to a technical log the Lion Air plane, which had only been in service a few months, suffered instrument problems the day before because of an 'unreliable' airspeed reading.

Police officer killed, several injured in attack on Ebola treatment center
Oh, great...
[NY Post] A police officer was killed and several health workers injured in an attack on an Ebola treatment center in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday, authorities said‐the second such assault in the last two weeks.

The World Health Organization, Doctors Without Borders and other groups have struggled to contain the outbreak in a region on the brink of civil war, where dozens of armed groups are active.

The two treatment-center attacks occurred in the epicenter of the outbreak, where more than 86 percent of new cases have been diagnosed over the past three weeks, officials said.

More than 850 Ebola cases have been confirmed since Aug. 1, including 578 deaths.

The outbreak is second in scope only to the one that killed more than 11,300 people in West Africa from 2014 to 2016.

Fourteen killed in Colombia plane crash: civil aviation agency
BOGOTA (Reuters) - Fourteen people were killed in a plane crash in the Colombian plains province of Meta on Saturday, the country’s civil aviation agency said.

The Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics said there were no survivors of the crash, which occurred after the DC-3 aircraft made a distress call at 10:40 a.m. local time (1540 GMT).

The plane, which is owned by Laser Aereo airlines, was en route from the southern city of San Jose del Guaviare to central Villavicencio, the agency said.

It crashed about midway through its flight, in San Carlos de Guaroa municipality.

The airline said it had no immediate comment.

In a later statement posted on Twitter, the agency named those who had died, including the mayor of a small town in the jungle province of Vaupes.

The aircraft’s navigability permissions were up-to-date, as were the medical certifications of its crew, the agency added.

Police block opposition protesters as tensions rise in Venezuela
[DAWN] Riot police blocked protesters as thousands of people erupted into the streets Saturday with tensions rising between opposition leader Juan Guaido and President Nicolas Maduro
Venezuela's attempt at producing a Muammar Qadaffy...
after crisis-wracked Venezuela emerged from the chaos of an electricity blackout.

Both Guaido and Maduro, who are locked in a bitter power struggle for the right to lead the oil-rich South American nation, had asked their supporters to fill the streets of Caracas and other cities in rival demonstrations.

"We want to march! Yes we can!" shouted opposition protesters as riot police prevented them from accessing the street in east Caracas where their demonstration was due to take place.

Opponents and chavistas will march this Saturday
[ELUNIVERSAL] After more than 20 hours without light, opponents and Chavistas will be mobilized this Saturday in the Greater Caracas.

The opposition leader, recognized in more than 50 countries as president in charge, Juan Guaidó, summoned the Venezuelans to meet at Plaza Altamira, the Distributor of Santa Fe and the CVA of Las Mercedes, to reach V ictoria Avenue .

Guaidó said in the Twitter social network: "Tomorrow I call on all the Venezuelan people to express themselves massively in the streets against the usurping regime, the corruption and the incapacity that has put in danger in our country".

For its part, the Government indicates that it will be mobilized from Cantv's headquarters, on Libertador Avenue, to the Miraflores Palace.

E ste Thursday mini was presented blackout that left without service electricity to almost all thes etates pais, situation that President Nicolas Maduro
Venezuela's attempt at producing a Muammar Qadaffy...
allocated a supposed "electrical war" led byUnited States (USA), plmost limited the communication in the telephony network and the internet.

The opposition and experts blame the Maduro government for the lack of investment and maintenance in the system, in addition to the "corruption" in the face of power interruptions, mainly in the interior of the country.

In this sense, the national security adviser of the White House, John Bolton, said that "Venezuela's electricity system collapsed" due to "years of corrupt management of Maduro."

The national chaos continues due to massive blackout
[ELUNIVERSAL] Much of the national territory is paralyzed by a massive blackout that President Nicolás Maduro attributed to an "electrical war" led by the United States.

After spending more than 24 hours without power, citizens of several sectors of the city of Caracas sounded pots and took gasoline from their vehicles to power generators.

In the few gasoline pumps that were kept open, large lines were displayed, AFP reported.

"I have about an hour to queue because all the bombs are closed, " Antonio Belisario told AFP.

The energy "came a moment and it went away again, I could not do the real thing today to take it home, I'm throwing gas because we do not know how long it will last", he added.

The blackout is considered the worst in history by the vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, who through her Twitter account said they were "making an effort" to restore the service.

Hospitals collapsed almost all over the country, canceled flights, homes without water, the streets of the main desolate cities and closed businesses, faulty telephone lines and no internet.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino called the blackout "deliberate aggression" by the United States and announced a "security deployment" by the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), although he did not elaborate.

"An aggression that has undoubtedly been prepared, deliberate, well delineated, as the American empire knows how to do , " he told TV.

The Minister of Communication, Jorge Rodríguez, announced that Venezuela will denounce the United States before the UN Human Rights Commission for the blackout.

German minister reveals why Guaido wasn’t arrested upon returning to Venezuela
[ALMASDARNEWS] The presence of foreign diplomats, including German Ambassador Daniel Kriener, at Caracas Airport on Monday probably "contributed" to Guaido’s not being tossed in the calaboose
You have the right to remain silent...
by Venezuelan authorities, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has said.

"There was information that [Guaido] was meant to be arrested there, and I think the presence of various ambassadors contributed to helping prevent this arrest," Maas said, speaking to news hounds in Berlin on Thursday, according to AP.

The remarks follow Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza’s announcement on Wednesday that Germany’s ambassador to Venezuela had been given 48 hours to leave the country for his "interference in the country’s internal affairs." In a statement, Arreaza called Kriener’s behaviour "a clear violation of the norms of diplomatic relations."

VENEZUELA DECLARES GERMAN ENVOY PERSONA NON-GRATA OVER ’INTERFERENCE IN INTERNAL AFFAIRS’
Heiko slammed Caracas’ decision, calling the expulsion an "incomprehensible decision" and adding that Europe’s support for Guaido was "unwavering."

On Thursday, an EU Foreign Affairs spokesperson voiced the bloc’s "regret" with Caracas’s decision to expel Kriener and urged the authorities to reconsider.

Guaido himself called the Venezuelan government’s move a "threat against Germany," insisting that the German ambassador should stay in the country illegally and calling on Berlin to tightened sanctions against Caracas.

The opposition leader arrived in Caracas on Monday following a trip abroad to several nations in the region.

Germany endorsed US sanctions against Venezuela last week, with authorities promising to lobby the EU to adopt further restrictions against the country in the near future.

Berlin joined Washington in recognising Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country’s leader after the opposition figure proclaimed himself the country’s interim president on January 23.

AOC Gets Surprise Visit From Bill Nye During SXSW Panel on Gummit
[Dateline Hollywood] From identity politics to immigration to the progressive surge in Congress, New York Rep. Alexandria Oscasio-Cortez has been a distinct voice and has become one of the most recognizable names in politics.

Her initials AOC have also become popular in the media and her appearance at SXSW was a testimony to that as she took the stage for her featured session ‐ "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the New Left" moderated by The Intercept’s Senior Politics Editor Briahna Gray. Oscasio-Cortez was welcomed with a standing ovation and spoke on the aforementioned issues that have continued to make headlines since Donald Trump took office, and it was all summarized at the end when Bill Nye made a surprise visit during the Q&A portion.

Mr. Nye The Science Guy stepped up to the mic with his query like any other SXSW attendee. "I’m a white guy," he started. "I think the problem on both sides is fear. People of my ancestry are afraid to pay for everything as immigrants come into this country. People who work at the diner in Alabama are afraid to ask for what is reasonable. So do you have a plan to work with people in Congress that are afraid? That’s what’s going on with many conservatives especially when it comes to climate change. People are afraid of what happens when we try to make these big changes."

After giving Nye her own standing ovation, she answered in front of the standing-room-only audience: "One of the keys to dismantling fear is dismantling a zero-sum mentality."

She continued, "It means the rejection outright of the logic that says someone else’s gain necessitates my loss and that my gain MUST necessitate someone’s loss. We can give without a take. We’re viewing progress as a loss instead of as an investment. When we choose to invest in our system, we are choosing to create wealth. When we all invest in them, then the wealth is for all of us too."

US regulators clear path for genetically modified salmon
NEW YORK (AP) ‐ U.S. regulators on Friday gave the green light to salmon genetically modified to grow about twice as fast as normal, but the company behind it may face legal challenges before the fish can be sold domestically.

The Food and Drug Administration said it lifted an alert that had prevented AquaBounty from importing its salmon eggs to its Indiana facility, where they would be grown before being sold as food. The agency noted the salmon has already undergone safety reviews, and that it lifted its alert because the fish would be subject to a new regulation that will require companies to disclose when a food is bioengineered.

The move comes despite a pending lawsuit filed by a coalition of consumer, environmental and fishing groups that challenged the FDA’s approval of the fish.

"We think a remedy in our case would stop sale of the fish before they’re allowed to be sold," said George Kimbrell, legal director for the Center for Food Safety, one of the groups suing the FDA.

AquaBounty was founded in 1991, and it has been working through years of safety reviews and regulatory hurdles to sell its fish in the United States. In 2015, its salmon became the first genetically modified animal approved by the FDA for human consumption. But the agency subsequently issued an alert that stopped the Maynard, Massachusetts-based company from importing its fish eggs until disclosure guidelines for genetically modified foods were resolved.

Elon Musk's SpaceX capsule splashes down off Florida coast
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (Reuters) - An unmanned capsule from Elon Musk’s SpaceX splashed into the Atlantic Ocean on Friday, successfully completing a mission crucial to NASA’s long-delayed quest to resume human space flight from U.S. soil later this year.

After a six-day mission to the International Space Station, Crew Dragon detached at about 2:30 a.m EST (0730 GMT) and sped back to earth, reaching hypersonic speeds before an 8:45 a.m. EST (1345 GMT) splash-down about 200 miles (320 km) off the Florida coast.

A SpaceX rocket launched the 16-foot-tall (4.9-meter) capsule from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida last Saturday.

"Everything happened just perfectly, right on time the way that we expected it to," Benjamin Reed, SpaceX’s director of crew mission management, said in a live stream from California.
