The Taliban get their ~~foot soldiers~~ cannon fodder from groomed Madrassah graduates in Afghanistan and Pakistan, generally going straight from the classroom to the battlefront. Those Madrassah students are a combination of the sons of the ambitious lower middle class, who can’t afford to pay the fees for proper schooling, and the desperate poor, who can’t afford to feed all their offspring. According to the CIA World Factbook, the median age of the Afghan male population is 19 and the fertility rate is 5 — so there are plenty more where these came from. The concern the Taliban should have is the number of trained officers they are now losing, compared to under President Trump’s predecessor.
