[Washington Examiner] The Taliban attacked Kandahar air base Wednesday, where several hundred U.S. troops are based, but the Department of Defense refused to call the attack a violation of the Doha peace agreement and downplayed it amid diplomatic talks. See also: "It's NOT a crisis at the border"
The United States and the Taliban signed a peace agreement in February 2020 that required the group waging war on the Afghan government to refrain from striking U.S. and coalition troops. In the intervening 13 months, the Taliban have largely avoided directly targeting American troops, and there have been no U.S. casualties, but their campaign of violence has escalated.
With a backdrop of a deteriorating security situation in the country, the U.S. is just three weeks away from a deadline to withdraw fully from the country — something President Joe Biden has said would be "hard to meet."

Spent a few mins reading up on "Adam Toledo", to see what type of kid we were discussing.
What I quickly noticed instead was the usual MSM agenda "canned" response to paint a problem Teen as a Angel and to incite others for more followup headlines and AD'$.
Remember this is Chicago. A Far Left city where owning a firearm legally is next to impossible. I know, because my now expired IL. State Patrol issued Firearm Permit excluded the city of Chicago. It is a well known Far Left Socialist-Democrat City constantly in the news for shooting, drugs and racial issues. An for some reason constantly used by Liberals and Socialists and Race Baiters as an example of where the US society and politics needs to be headed.
Examples: USA-TODAY used lines like:
"Adam Toledo ... who dreamed of becoming a police officer..." - they failed to mention he was a 13 yr/old carrying firearm & a possible drug runner.
"...the need to change Chicago police foot pursuit policy " - which to me means ... if they run, let them go.
"police ... issued an "officer safety alert" and said the Narcotics Division had received information about retaliation." - So was this a Teen who wanted to be a police officer or a drug gang related teen and the Police line was fiction and tossed in for sympathy?
Note: this happened in a largely Latino neighborhood after the department’s ShotSpotter system detected 8 gunshots. Causing CPD to arrive. At which time the Teen and a 21-year-old man hauled a$$. At some point the Teen draw down on the officer. At which point the officer shot the armed teen once in the chest killing the teen. - Why was a 13 yr/old so far from home and in a different ethnic community.
- Why run when the Police/Narcs pull up?
- Why & How was he armed?
- Where did he get the firearm?
- Why is it a 13 yr/old teen "possible" gang member is armed? But "Citizens" are denied the right to self defense
Then the USA Today article tosses in for good measure a link named: "White officers use force more often, Chicago police study finds" - But failed to mention of the 12,000 +/- LEO's CPD over 1/2 are White Officers followed by Black & Hispanic just about equally match and Asian.
BTW: In a FOXNEWS Report
it seems the Chicago Mayor had seen the Police Cam Video.
Because faced with Visual Facts she changed her tune: "Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Monday vowed to hold the adults responsible for "putting a gun into the hands" of 13-year-old Adam Toledo..."- We now know the Teen was in fact ARMED and it was likely a good shoot.
[DW] A court has sentenced four men to life for their roles in a 2016 suicide kaboom in central Istanbul that killed 12 German tourists. Eighteen other suspects were acquitted on the grounds of a lack of evidence.
A Ottoman Turkish court sentenced four men to life in jail on Tuesday for their roles in a suicide kaboom in Istanbul in January 2016.
The incident, on the city's historic Sultanahmet square, killed 12 German tourists and maimed 16 other people.

FOUR SUSPECTS RECEIVE LIFE SENTENCES
The four suspects, already in jail, received aggravated life sentences. The Istanbul court that handed out the sentences ruled that the attack represented "an attempt to violent mostly peacefully overthrow the constitutional order," the private DHA news agency reported.
Aggravated life sentences are the most severe prison terms possible in Turkey since it abolished the death penalty in 2002; there is no chance for parole.
Additionally, each was also sentenced to 328 years for aiding deliberate murder with terrorist intent, among other charges, according to state news agency Anadolu.
A LONG-RUNNING COURT CASE
Tuesday's sentences are final after an appeals court overturned a 2018 verdict against a total of 26 suspects.
One further suspect was sentenced to over six years in jail for membership in a terrorist organization.
The court acquitted 18 further suspects, citing lack of evidence.
Meanwhile, ...back at the Alamo, Davy was counting their remaining cannon balls and not liking the results... a trial in absentia will continue against three suspects who are runaways, Anadolu said.
In 2018, Ottoman Turkish judges sentenced three Syrian nationals to life in prison for their involvement in the bombing. But an appeals court overturned that verdict for several reasons, including that the sentences were deemed too lenient.
The court did not state the nationality of those handed the sentences on Tuesday.

in Himreen mountain range, leaving 60 IS Death Eaters killed, Yahia Rasoul, front man of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi forces, said in a statement.
On March 24, Rasoul said in a statement that the Iraqi security forces, backed by US-led coalition and Iraqi aircraft, launched the offensive on March 9 and continued for 14 days in the Makhmour mountain range in Iraq's northern province of Nineveh, destroying 120 IS group positions and killing 27 IS bully boys.
According to Rasoul, March's offensive forced the IS Death Eaters to flee to alternative hideouts in Himreen Mountain in Salahudin province.
The mountains and vast rugged areas north of Baghdad have witnessed intense activities of the IS Death Eaters during the past months, despite repeated military operations to hunt them down.
[PRESSTV] The United States and Iraq announce in a joint statement that they have agreed on the withdrawal of "all" American combat troops from the Arab country’s soil, with Washington attributing the prospect to sufficiency of the Iraqi military’s combat capability.
The agreement was arrived at following the first-ever "strategic dialogue" to take place between the two sides under US President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. The very model of probity.... , AFP reported, citing the statement.
The US had taken all of the forces out of Iraq under former president Barrack Obama. The same American commander-in-chief, however, flooded the country with military forces again in 2014 as part of a Washington-led coalition under the pretext of battling the Takfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed... terrorist group of ISIS.
The terror outfit had emerged amid the chaos and sectarian violence that had resulted from the 2003-then US-led military intervention.
Obama’s successor and Biden predecessor Donald Trump ...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US... took down the number of the forces to 2,500 by January 15. Many, however, downplayed the drawdown as a gesture aimed at boosting Trump’s re-election chances that he would very likely reverse if he was chosen president again.
The US would retain a training mission in Iraq, the statement added. "The parties confirmed that the mission of US and Coalition forces has now transitioned to one focused on training and advisory tasks, thereby allowing for the redeployment of any remaining combat forces from Iraq," it read.
The statement alleged that the Iraqi forces had now outgrown American assistance due to the "success" of Washington and Baghdad’s "strategic partnership."
Wednesday’s statement, however, came after constant pressure from many Iraqi factions, influential personalities, and the general public on the country to follow up a law passed by the parliament early last year that had ordered withdrawal of all US-led forces.

Newer versions are reported to have a range of up to 30 km.... , local source told North Press.
The targeting resulted in direct casualties among the government forces, the source added.
Areas of northwest Syria are included in the ceasefire agreement signed by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... and Russia in March 2020, after a military campaign in the region.
The al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room includes Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... , Jaish al-Izza and National Front for Liberation affiliated with the Syrian National Army.
[NPASYRIA] On Wednesday evening, Syrian government forces targeted residential neighborhoods of the city of Afrin, northwest Syria, with several artillery shells, in coincidence with Ottoman Turkish shelling of villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
A private source told North Press that the government forces stationed in the town of Nubl, north of Aleppo, shelled the residential neighborhoods of Afrin with 6 artillery shells.
The bombing focused on Afrin-Jinderes Road, in addition to targeting Mazot Road to the west of the city, without any casualties reported, the source added.
In the same context, the same source mentioned that the Ottoman Turkish forces stationed in the Scientific Research Center on Azaz-Yahmol road bombarded the villages of Deir Jamal, Soghana, Ebbin, Umm Hosh and Aqiba in Shahba areas and Sherawa district, north of Aleppo, with several artillery shells.
On February 17, Afrin was subjected to a similar bombardment by the government forces targeting the city center and the Villat Street, causing a number of civilian casualties.
The city of Afrin and its environs have been under the control of the Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition groups since March 2018.
[NPASYRIA] On Wednesday, unidentified button men assassinated Fayez al-Kheleif, Minister of Higher Education in the Salvation Government, the civilian wing of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... (HTS), days after news of his abduction.
Local sources told North Press that the Syrian Civil Defense teams found the body of al-Khleif, near the village of al-Tawama in the western countryside of Aleppo.
Al-Kheleif was kidnapped four days ago, and signs of torture were seen on his body.
Al-Kheleif was missed on April 3, after leaving his home in al-Dabbit neighborhood in Idlib, while on his way to work at the headquarters of the Salvation Government, according to the sources.
Al-Kheleif came from the village of al-Rasafah, east of Idlib, and held a Ph.D. in pesticide residues analysis from the Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University in 2015.
He worked as a lecturer at the Institute of Agricultural Technology at the University of Idlib in 2015 and 2016 before he was appointed as Minister of Agriculture, and then, Minister of Higher Education of the Salvation Government.
Until now, no party has grabbed credit for the liquidation of al-Kheleif, as informed sources confirmed to North Press that the HTS General Security Service started investigating the incident.
They may not be quite as vile as ISIS, but that doesn’t put them on the side of the angels.
