Afghanistan
8 Insurgents Killed, 18 Injured in Kunduz Operation
[Tolo News] At least eight Taliban hard boyz were killed and 18 others were maimed in an Afghan-led operation in the past 24 hours, officials said.

Two Afghan security soldiers also were maimed in the operation.

The operation was launched in the Dasht-e-Archi district of the province to clear hard boyz ahead of the June 14 runoff, said Mohmmad Jawid Salim, a front man for a unit of the Afghan Special Forces based in Kunduz.

Dasht-e-Archi district, bordering Tajikistan, has been a hotbed for the Taliban insurgency for the past several years.

There are dozens of military operations ongoing across the country ahead of the mid-June elections to ensure a greater turnout.

Last week, the Ministry of Interior said that 75 military operations were ongoing across Afghanistan.

With the annual fighting season now well underway, some are concerned security could prove a bigger issue during the runoff than it did in the first round.

12 killed in Wajir retaliatory attacks
Wajir, Kenya -- A dawn raid on a border village in Wajir County left at least 12 people dead and several houses torched on Thursday morning as retaliatory attacks between two rival Somali clans escalated.

Suspected Garre militia allegedly attacked Gunan, a Degodia village in Tarbaj constituency. The militia are believed to have been on a mission to avenge the deaths of 10 Garre people. They were allegedly killed by Degodia bandits in Takaba Sub-county, Mandera, recently.

Wajir police boss David Kuria said the people were killed after heavily armed gunmen descended on the village at 7am.

He, however, could not confirm whether those killed died from burns or bullets. “The area where the attack occurred is about 250km from Wajir town and I need to wait for my officers who went there this morning (yesterday) to return with information because the area has no network.

But I can confirm that 12 people, 10 men and two women, were killed in the raid,” he said.

The police boss said security reinforcements were sent to the area, adding that Administration Police officers, stationed in the border village, repulsed the attackers. “We suspect the attack was revenge for Wednesday’s attack in Takaba by suspected Degodia gunmen in Mandera County, where people were killed and some animals, including camels, sheep and goats, were also killed,” he said.

Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has condemned the killings and urged the warring clans to embrace dialogue to end the skirmishes that are a threat to devolution.

Weapons stored on university campus, Hafter warns
[Libya Herald] Khalifa Hafter's forces have warned students at Benghazi University not to attend classes, saying the campus was now being used by Islamists to store weapons and ammunition.

"The Air Force is hitting their camps so Ansar Al-Sharia and 17 February Brigade have moved their weapons and ammunition stores to the university," Hafter's front man Mohammed Al-Hijazi told the Libya Herald. "We can see them, so we know they are there."

Hejazi urged parents not to allow their children to go to classes because it was dangerous. Hafter's forces were concerned that Islamist groups might try to use the students to protect them, he said, adding that the Islamist groups being targeted by Operation Dignity were capable of anything.

A senior member of the university management insisted it was "a normal day" at the university although one student said there were very few students in attendance.

"There is no security at the university and the students are very few," another student said. "We want this whole semester to be cancelled because of constant disruption to classes." Some departments have reportedly not even been able to hold exams.

Hijazi confirmed that special operations were still being carried out in Benghazi.

Jordan tells citizens to leave Libya "as soon as possible"
[Libya Herald] Jordan's Foreign Ministry has become the latest country to tell its citizens to leave the Libya as soon as possible and not to travel to it because of the deteriorating security situation.

A week ago, Jordan has warned its citizens to avoid going to areas of conflict in Libya.

On Tuesday, the US State Department advised Americans told to leave Libya immediately, saying that Libyan security was "unpredictable and unstable".

Filipinos have also been advised this week by their government to leave Libya. There is no sign as yet, however, that significant numbers of the 14,000 Filipinos are leaving.

Terrorists kill 4 at Ben Jeddou home
[MAGHAREBIA] Terrorists killed four Tunisian policemen Tuesday night (May 27th) in an attack on the family residence of Interior Minister Lotfi Ben Jeddou.

"According to the information we gathered so far, the group that carried out the armed attack is made up of more than 10 people who had infiltrated from Jebel Salloum in the governorate of Kasserine," Interior Ministry spokesman Mohamed Ali Aroui said.

Aroui stressed that guard units and the national army were in the process of hunting down these groups, describing the incident as "cowardly and seeking to undermine the morale of security forces".

Benghazi University under Islamist threat
[MAGHAREBIA] Khalifa Haftar's forces warned Benghazi University students not to attend classes, as the Islamists are storing weapons and ammunition on the campus, Libya Herald reported on Thursday (May 29th).

"The Air Force is hitting their camps, so Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libya, Tunisia and Yemen, with the Libyan and Tunisian versions currently most active...
and the February 17 Brigade have moved their weapons and ammunition stores to the university," said Mohammed al-Hijazi, the front man for the retired general. The Islamists may attempt to use the students as human shields, he added.

On Wednesday, Haftar's forces pounded the Benghazi bases of the two Islamist militias.

Africa Subsaharan
Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kill emir, policemen in Nigeria
[EURONEWS] Suspected members of the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Islamist group, which kidnapped 276 schoolgirls last month, bumped off a traditional Moslem emir in an attack on a convoy in northeastern Nigeria on Friday, the Borno state government said.

The Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrissa Timta, was travelling with the emirs of Uba and Askira to a attend a funeral when the suspected Islamist gunnies opened fire on their car in Zhur, a remote community in Borno state.

Since April 14, when the girls were taken, at least 500 civilians have been killed by the murderous Moslems, according to a Rooters count.

Timta died from gunshot wounds and two coppers were killed while the other two emirs managed to escape, a source at the Emir of Uba's palace told Rooters, requesting anonymity.

"The Emir of Gwoza was killed around 9 a.m. today following a bloody attack by some gunnies believed to be members of the Boko Haram," Borno state government said in a statement.

Sources had earlier told Rooters two of the traditional leaders had been kidnapped, but the palace source said the emirs of Uba and Askira had simply hidden for some time in the bush, leading to fears they had been kidnapped.

Most of the vehicles in the convoy were destroyed, the source said.

Friday's attack came as leaders from the 15-member Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) met in Ghana to discuss worsening insecurity in northern Nigeria and in Mali, where Tuareg separatists routed government troops last week.

"We must act, and we must put in place measures that make clear that we will not allow any of our countries to be used to destabilize other nations," Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama, who holds the rotating presidency of the bloc, said at the opening of the summit.
An Nahar refers to the assassinated gentleman as a senior Muslim cleric and "a Nigerian Islamic monarch" and the two men in the car with him as "other Muslim royals". An Nahar adds:
The Salafist tough guys, who have killed thousands in a five-year uprising, have repeatedly targeted Nigeria's Islamic monarchs, whom they accuse of betraying the faith by submitting to the authority of the secular government.

A jacket wallah tried to kill Nigeria's third most powerful emir, the Shehu of Borno, Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, as he left Friday prayers in July 2012. The monarch survived the attack that left five people dead.

The convoy of the Emir of Kano, Nigeria's number two Islamic leader, was targeted in an attack last year.

The attack follows calls from activists for Nigeria's Islamic royals, including the Borno monarch, to play a greater role in curbing Boko Haram's violence and helping secure the release of the 219 schoolgirls held hostage by the krazed killers.

The leader of Nigeria's Mohammedans, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa'ad Abubakar III, called for unity in the battle against Boko Haram in a public address at the National Mosque last weekend, urging his followers to support the government.

Prominent displays of support for the government from the country's top holy man may have caught the attention of some Boko Haram commanders.

But there was no immediate evidence linking Friday's attack to the Islamists or the Sultan's recent remarks.

Initial reports indicated that the gunnies were looking to abduct the emirs, reflecting an increasing trend for ransom kidnappings by the Islamists to fund their anti-government uprising.

Kyrgyzstan national charged with hampering Boston bombing probe
[EURONEWS] U.S. officials on Friday charged a Kyrgyzstan national who bought dinner for the accused Boston Marathon bombers the night of the attack with interfering with the investigation into the deadly bombing.

Khairullozhon Matanov, a 23-year-old taxi driver who lives in Quincy, Massachusetts, appeared in court to face one criminal count of destroying records and three counts of lying to officials in a terrorism investigation.

Dressed in a white T-shirt and jeans, and unshaven, Matanov told U.S. Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler that he understood English and did not require the assistance of an interpreter, and that he had no family in the United States.

"I am a cab driver," he said, when asked his occupation.

Prosecutors said in court papers Matanov had been friends with accused bombers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, spoke with both in the days after the blast but lied to police about the extent of his relationship with the pair.

Matanov, who had hiked a New Hampshire mountain with Tamerlan Tsarnaev to "train like, and praise, the 'mujahideen,'" deleted searches related to the attacks from his computer, tried to dispose of cell phones he had used, and denied knowing much about the pair in interviews with police, prosecutors said. Mujahideen refers to Islamic guerilla fighters.

Bowler ordered him held until next Wednesday, when a hearing will take place to determine if he may be released on bail.

Bari Imam shut after explosives recovered
[DAWN] Two kilogrammes of explosives were recovered near the Bari Imam shrine on Thursday.

Though it was a low-grade explosive usually used for blasting rocks and mountains, the farmers working in the area are yet to claim the ownership which has made the recovery suspicious.

Earlier, the police received information regarding an abandoned white packet lying on the eastern side of the shrine.

During examination, the police and the bomb disposal squad found explosives in the packet, along with a 48-foot-long detonating cord and a safety fuse, the police said. The police approached the labourers and farmers in the nearby areas to confirm the ownership.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
they added that such a small quantity of explosives was not useful as they needed a larger amount to clear rocks from the farms and construction areas.

A police front man said the package was kept by unidentified persons to harass the locals.

N. Waziristan Taliban revoke peace accord; tell locals to leave
[DAWN] The North Wazoo Taliban led by Hafiz Gul Bahadar have formally revoked the peace accord with the Pak government, a pamphlet distributed by the group in the tribal region said.
The hudna is over, it seems.
The faction, as the pamphlet sent to media by Bahadur's front man Ahmadullah Ahmadi said, is now preparing to fight against what it said was the security forces' planned operation, giving locals until June 10 to leave the area and move to safety.

The pamphlet distributed Friday read that the government had broken the peace accord with the North Waziristan Taliban by launching air strikes with a full-fledged operation being planned for the tribal region.

"The shura mujahideen has decided not to tolerate this aggression anymore and has opted to fight and defend Waziristan," the pamphlet added.

The group also warned locals to refrain from seeking refuge in government-established camps. Instead, it directed them to move to areas close to the Afghan border whereby they could easily travel to Afghanistan.

The group has also demanded locals to sever all ties with the government and military officials by June 10. It has warned that action would be taken against those who do not heed the bully boys' warnings, adding that no one would be allowed to go to the military camps and government offices after the deadline.

The group also announced to stop all its operations in Afghanistan after June 10, adding that it would not send any fighters across the border and would focus on defending North Waziristan, calling upon the rustics to either leave the area or join hands with the bully boys.

Forces Thwart Attempted Terror Attack At Tapuach Junction
[Ynet] Border Guard arrest suspicious Paleostinian who arrived at flashpoint junction with suicide belt; Minister tells soldiers: Your alertness saved lives.

Border Guard sappers successfully disarmed an bomb found on the body of a Paleostinian man in his 20s at the Tapuach Junction in the West Bank.
An Nahar notes that a robot was used, further reducing the ability of the jacket wallah to cause harm.
The man was tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
after he arrived at the junction wearing a long coat and acting suspiciously; when ordered to stop, the Paleostinian told the forces that he had a bomb.

A search of his person revealed 12 iron pipes connected to one another with electrical wires at his waist, an initial investigation revealed that only one pipe contained kaboom.

A 20-year-old Paleostinian from the Nablus region arrived Friday a little after 10 am at the falshpoint Tapuach Junction, he was spotted by Border Guard forces and raised their suspicions because he was wearing a coat despite the intense heat.

The forces ordered him to halt and take off his coat, at which point he informed them that he was carrying a bomb. According to the forces, he did not resist arrest or forces' attempt to take off his coat, and did not attempt to detonate the homemade blast.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
a senior source in the regional command told Ynet that "the entire picture is not yet clear. It is possible he could have waited for some one.

In the recent year, dozens of Paleostinian youths arrived at checkpoints throughout the West Bank with makeshift bombs which made from firecrackers, pipes, cables and other easily attained materials.

Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch spoke with the officers who arrested the Death Eaters and told their commander "your alertness and professional work stopped a terrorist with a suicide belt. You prevented a terror attack and saved live. I am proud of you."

Gershon Mesika, head of the Shomron Regional Council, also commented on the event and said "this is a serious escalation in Paleostinian attempts to harm civilians."

It is far from certain the device was operational, and the IDF stress that they are still investigating.

A Paleostinian source claimed that the road leading to the junction has been sealed off by the IDF to both Paleostinian and Israeli vehicles.

Last year, IDF soldiers killed a Paleostinian terrorist at the same junction. An investigation into the incident revealed that the Paleostinian fired a gun at Israelis waiting at a bus stop near the junction; however he was taken out by the forces before he had the chance to harm any of the four Israelis waiting at the stop.
An Nahar further notes that:
Israel has in recent years managed to thwart all attempted suicide kabooms in both its territory and the West Bank.

Three NPA militants killed in Mindanao
Three communist militants were killed in separate clashes with Philippine government forces in Surigao del Norte and Northern Samar.

The latest incident happened around 6:45 a.m. Thursday in the vicinity of Mt. Taglintian in Surigao del Norte, said army spokesman Major Christian Uy. He said troops were on a security operation when they caught up with about 20 New People's Army (NPA) militants, prompting a 30-minute firefight.

Captain Alberto Caber said the NPA militants fled leaving behind two dead comrades following the firefight. There were indications that the militants suffered more casualties as evidenced by bloodstains and personal belongings left behind.

The second firefight occurred around 10:32 a.m. last Wednesday at Catubig town in Northern Samar. Troops were on a similar security operation in a village when they engaged about 15 militants in a 15-minute firefight. During clearing operation, the soldiers found at the scene a slain militant.

ISIL Kidnaps Nearly 200 Kurds in Syria's Aleppo
[An Nahar] Syria's most Death Eater group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
(ISIL), have kidnapped nearly 200 Kurdish civilians from the Aleppo area, a monitor said on Friday.

"Fighters from ISIL on Thursday kidnapped at least 193 Kurdish civilians aged from 17 to 70 years from the village of Qabasin in Aleppo province," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said the reasons behind their kidnapping were "unknown, but this kind of act takes place repeatedly in areas under ISIL control."

Rooted in al-Qaeda in Iraq, the Islamist gunnies first surfaced in the Syrian war in late spring last year.

Syria's Kurdish militias started fighting ISIL from very early on, as soon as the jihadists started pushing to take over resource-rich, majority Kurdish areas dotted around the country's north and northeast.

Army Arrests 10 Syrians for Illegal Entry
[An Nahar] The Lebanese army announced on Friday that it tossed in the slammer
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
10 Syrians in a border area in the eastern Bekaa Valley for illegally entering Leb.

An army communique said soldiers apprehended the Syrian nationals in Arsal in northeastern Leb after they infiltrated into Lebanese territories.

The suspects were handed over to the appropriate authorities, it added.

The National News Agency said the Syrians were arrested at the Wadi Hmeid checkpoint in Arsal.

Most of them had fake documents, the state-run agency added.

The suspects were apprehended on charges of forming a counterfeit ring and the possession of a gun.

The members of the patrol confiscated a currency printing machine, and counterfeit bank notes and gold and silver coins, the communique added.

The case was referred to the judiciary for further investigation.
