2014-05-31 |
Three communist militants were killed in separate clashes with Philippine government forces in Surigao del Norte and Northern Samar. The latest incident happened around 6:45 a.m. Thursday in the vicinity of Mt. Taglintian in Surigao del Norte, said army spokesman Major Christian Uy. He said troops were on a security operation when they caught up with about 20 New People's Army (NPA) militants, prompting a 30-minute firefight. Captain Alberto Caber said the NPA militants fled leaving behind two dead comrades following the firefight. There were indications that the militants suffered more casualties as evidenced by bloodstains and personal belongings left behind. The second firefight occurred around 10:32 a.m. last Wednesday at Catubig town in Northern Samar. Troops were on a similar security operation in a village when they engaged about 15 militants in a 15-minute firefight. During clearing operation, the soldiers found at the scene a slain militant. |
