[AlAhram] A Facebook page titled 'The Popular Resistance' claimed the liquidation of the chief prosecutor, though some security experts believe the operation bears the hallmarks of Sinai Province
Twenty people have been incarcerated ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... by security forces on Wednesday over accusations they are behind the Facebook page dubbed "The Popular Resistance" which grabbed credit for the liquidation of Egypt's prosecutor-general Hisham Barakat on Monday.
Al Ahram Arabic website reported on Wednesday that the administrators of the pages were located in different places in Cairo and Giza. Some "criminal research units" affiliated with the ministry of interior are chasing others over the same accusations.
Units from the National Security Agency are raiding some alleged terrorist-linked hotbeds in Cairo's outskirts following Barakat's liquidation near his home in the upscale district of Heliopolis.
Nine people, including two drivers and five members of the security forces, were maimed when a bomb hit the prosecutor's convoy.
Barakat's death marks the first successful liquidation attempt against a state official since violence erupted following former president Mohammed Morsi's ouster in July 2013.
Meanwhile, ...back at the dirigible, Cynthia backed into the galley, the barbecue fork held in front of her. Jack! she called. Where the hell are you?... security experts doubt that the "The Popular Resistance" Facebook page is behind the attack, as they believe that the technical implementation of the kaboom suggested that it might have been conducted by the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... -affiliated jihadist group Sinai Province, previously known as Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis.
On Monday, the group released a video that shows their attack on judges in North Sinai's Al-Arish in May. A title at the bottom of the screen reads "Assassination of five of the tyrant's judges."
The Sinai Province grabbed credit for the liquidation attempt against former interior minister Mohammed Ibrahim, who escaped unscathed in September 2013. The kaboom on Ibrahim in Cairo left one civilian dead and 21 injured, including six coppers and a child.
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Egyptian security forces stormed an apartment in the western Cairo suburb of '6th of October' and killed nine men whom they said were armed, security sources said. The sources said authorities had received information the group was planning to carry out an attack. Among those dead was Nasser al-Hafi, a prominent lawyer for the Moslem Brüderbund and a former politician.
Egyptian security forces on Wednesday killed nine members of the Moslem Brüderbund during a raid on their hide-out apartment in the western Cairo suburb of 6 of October city, the interior ministry said.
The officers shot the men after they opened fire on them while attempting to escape, Giza deputy security director Magdy Abd El-Aal had told told Ahram Arabic news website earlier in the evening.
The now-banned Moslem Brüderbund, which has been blamed by the government for orchestrating terrorist attacks against security forces in the last two years, denied that the men were armed.

[DAWN] The self-styled Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (IS) bully boyz attacked several military checkpoints in Egypt's North Sinai on Wednesday in a co-ordinated assault that killed more than 100 people -- one of the biggest holy warrior strikes in Egypt's modern history.
Soldiers, coppers, civilians and gunnies were among the dead.
IS' Egyptian affiliate, Sinai Province, grabbed credit and said that it had attacked more than 15 security sites and carried out three suicide kabooms.
Egypt's armed forces said that at least 100 gunnies and 17 soldiers had been killed.
One security source said about 300 holy warriors, armed with heavy weapons and anti-aircraft weaponry, had taken part in the attacks while the army said five checkpoints were hit and the fighting had raged for more than eight hours.
The assault -- a significant escalation in violence in the Sinai Peninsula that lies between Israel, the Gazoo Strip and the Suez Canal - was the second high-profile attack in Egypt this week. On Monday, a bomb killed the prosecutor-general in Cairo.
The hard boys, who have killed hundreds of coppers and soldiers, want to topple the Cairo government and have stepped up their campaign since 2013, when then-army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sissi removed President Mohammed Mursi of the Moslem Brüderbund after mass protests against his rule.
Sisi, who regards the Brotherhood as a threat to national security, has since overseen a harsh crackdown on Islamists.
Al Ahram liveblogged the day's events here. Of note, Egyptian army Apache helicopters and F-16s were used in the counter attacks against the miscreants, and IS planted IEDs on the highways to hinder troop movements.

[AnNahar] A man and a woman apparently trying to target a hospital in northeast Nigeria ... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border... were killed Wednesday when explosives strapped to their bodies blew up, witnesses said.
The kabooms took place in the village of Molai not far from the restive city of Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, where Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was on a surprise visit.
According to witness Babayo Ismail, one of the pair was a woman aged around 18 who was trying to find her way into Molai General Hospital.
"She covered herself with a hijab and wanted to enter the hospital but was forced to stop while approaching the facility," he said.
"I strongly feel that the explosives in her body were remotely controlled because while guards at the gate of the hospital were shouting at her, we heard a loud bang and that was the end of the whole thing, she was completely decapitated by her own explosive."
A security official at the hospital who requested anonymity said the woman was also accompanied by a man aged around 20 on a bicycle.
"When they were denied (entry), the explosives on their bodies detonated and killed them," he said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... has used both men and young women and girls as human bombs in the past.
The same hospital was also targeted Saturday when a jacket wallahwent kaboom! outside, killing at least five people and leaving 10 maimed.
Borno state has been the hardest hit by the Boko Haram insurgency, which has left at least 15,000 people dead and forced more than 1.5 million people to flee their homes since 2009.

[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Shells fired by Yemen's dominant Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... group killed 18 people near the southern port city of Aden early on Wednesday, local officials and witnesses said, while the United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... warned a dengue fever outbreak in Aden was rapidly gaining pace.
Yemen, which has long struggled with poverty and hunger, has descended into a fullblown humanitarian crisis since a war erupted between the Houthis and allies of the exiled President Abed Rabbou Mansour Hadi, drawing in neighboring Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... .
The United Nations said in a report Tuesday that an average of 150 new cases of dengue fever and around 11 deaths were being reported daily.
The northern Houthi fighters, who have seized large parts of Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... in recent months, advanced towards Aden in March, prompting Hadi, who had taken refuge there, to flee to Saudi Arabia.
Since then Aden has been host to almost daily festivities between the Houthis and local resistance fighters allied with Hadi. Thousands have been killed or maimed.
Residents of Aden's Mansoura district said mortar shells apparently fired indiscriminately by Houthis stationed in a field to the north, killed seven people sheltering at a hotel and 11 more at a market.
They said one resident in his 30s, Atef al-Somali, was killed while trying to buy food for suhoor - a meal Moslems eat early in the morning before they resume their dawn-to-dusk fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
At least 30 other people were maimed in the attack, local officials said.
Houthi officials were not immediately available to comment on the report.
Aden, a city of more than 1 million people, is facing shortages of food, fuel and medical supplies.
The United Nations, in a report Tuesday, quoted Aden health officials as saying that 8,000 people had contracted dengue fever in Aden since the crisis began in March.
The report also said that 590 have died from the disease, five times what was reported two weeks ago. Dengue fever outbreaks had also been reported in eastern Hadramout ...the formerly independent Qu'aiti state and sultanate, annexed by Communist South Yemen in 1968, encompassing a region along the Gulf of Aden, extending eastwards to the borders of the Dhofar region of Oman. The people are called Hadhramis and speak Hadhrami Arabic. The city Tarimis is estimated to contain the highest concentration of descendants of the Prophet Muhammad (PTUI) anywhere in the world, approximately seven in every square yard... and western Hudaydah.

Riyadh, Saudi-controlled Arabia -- The Saudi military says a soldier posted along the country’s southern border has died of wounds sustained from a missile strike launched by rebels inside Yemen.
The Houthis frequently fire missiles from inside Yemen at Saudi border posts. More than two dozen Saudi soldiers have been killed in such attacks.
The Saudi military said on Wednesday that the soldier was wounded at a border post in Najran and later died of his injuries. The statement did not make clear when the attack took place.
Saudi Arabia is leading a coalition of countries that has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis since late March.

[AlAhram] Italian and Albanian police on Wednesday jugged Into the paddy wagon wit' yez! 10 people they believe were on the verge of travelling to Syria to join the Islamic State group, judicial sources said.
In a separate operation, Italian police also arrested two North Africans suspected of being members of an Al-Qaeda cell engaged in attempts to radicalise potential recruits via the Internet and of plotting terrorist attacks in Italia and North Africa.
The Islamic State-related probe began in October after authorities became aware that an Italian female convert to Islam, Maria Giulia Sergio, 28, had joined the ranks of IS after marrying an Albanian with the same intention.
The couple and the husband's mother travelled to Syria via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... several days after their September wedding, police said.
He was immediately dispatched to an IS training camp while Sergio was given weapons training and sent messages to friends celebrating the deadly January attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo ...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe... Sergio persuaded her parents and a sister, also Moslem converts, to join her in Syria. The family had sold their furniture and requested passports before their arrests on Wednesday for "organising a journey for terrorist ends" -- a recently introduced offence which was applied for the first time in his case.
Five members of the husband's Albanian family were arrested, including his father, Baki Coku, 40, who was detained in Albania and is now subject to extradition proceedings. The suspects also include a Canadian long-time resident of Italia.
In an unrelated case, nine people are currently on trial in Albania on charges of attempting to recruit candidates for jihad in Syria and helping finance their trips.

[AlAhram] Turkish authorities on Wednesday locked away Please don't kill me! seven men suspected of fighting alongside the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (IS) group in Syria, state media reported.
The suspects were arrested in raids in the western city of Izmir, southern city of Isparta and in eastern Erzurum province, Anatolia news agency said.
The police seized two pistols and five hunting rifles during the operation, Anatolia added.
The murderous Moslems are suspected of having been among the IS fighters who seized the Kurdish town of Kobane, just inside Syria's border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... , only to be routed by Kurdish forces in January, Dogan news agency said.
The murderous Moslems are believed to have then fled back across the border to Turkey, Dogan said.
Western states have repeatedly accused Turkey of not doing enough to halt the flow of jihadists across its 911-kilometre (566-mile) border with Syria.
Turkey fiercely rejects the accusations, saying it is making every effort to secure a long border and in turn has accused the West of not playing its part to shoulder the burden of hosting nearly 2 million refugees from Syria.
In an apparent bid to deflect the criticism Turkish authorities have arrested a number of suspected murderous Moslems in recent months.
Pro-government newspapers have speculated in recent days that Ankara is planning a military intervention in Syria to create a buffer zone along the border with Turkey, following gains by Kurdish forces against jihadists in the area.
Turkey's government fears that the growing assertiveness of Kurds in Syria will embolden Turkey's own 15-million-strong Kurdish minority.
Ankara sought to calm the speculation Tuesday, saying it would not act unilaterally, while reserving the right to protect Turkey's borders.
Anatolia reported on Wednesday that Turkey had dispatched reinforcements to the southern border province of Kilis, including tanks, anti-aircraft weapons, armoured combat vehicles and military personnel.

[PJ Media] Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey vowed today that ISIS "will eventually collapse under the weight of their own contradictions" -- with "a little help from coalition partners."
Dempsey and Defense Secretary Ashton Carter were asked at a Pentagon press conference today about the Department of Homeland Security alert about the potential for an ISIS attack over the Fourth of July -- and whether ISIS has evolved into more of a threat against the homeland. 'Leading from behind' and seeing things as he wishes they were appears to be something of a contagion.

"The US will eventually collapse under the weight of our own ass-clown government". Our military is prioritized upon battling climate change, and integrating transgenders - and other similarly "vital" concerns.
Shakespeare had it right:
To see him shine so brisk and smell so sweet
And talk so like a waiting-gentlewoman
Of guns and drums and wounds,--God save the mark!--
...
This villanous salt-petre should be digg'd
Out of the bowels of the harmless earth,
Which many a good tall fellow had destroy'd
So cowardly; and but for these vile guns,
He would himself have been a soldier.

[DAWN] At least two security personnel were maimed in a gun and rocket attack from Afghan cops in South Wazoo tribal agency on Wednesday, said a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to the ISPR, Afghan cops early on Wednesday morning fired an RPG-7 rocket and few rounds of small arms at a security checkpost in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan.
Pak troops retaliated and targeted positions where the fire was coming from, said the ISPR statement.
Earlier reports had suggested that six security personnel were maimed due to the firing, however a statement from ISPR confirmed the number was two.
Tensions have been rising along the border of Khyber Agency and South Waziristan tribal region over the last few days, say official security sources.
Reports of rising tensions come as the Taliban step up attacks in Afghanistan as a part of their annual offensive.

[DAWN] LAHORE: The head of Al Qaeda in Pakistain was among the four murderous Moslems killed in Monday's police raid in Sheikhupura district's Kala Shah Kaku area, a provincial official said on Wednesday.
Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada named the Al Qaeda leader only as "Abdali" in a news conference and said he and three other operatives were planning an attack on government figures.
"Their leader who was giving them the briefings, who was leading the entire team, was the head of Al Qaeda in Pakistain. His name was Abdali," he told news hounds.
The minister later confirmed by telephone that Abdali was one of four killed on Monday when Pak forces raided a hideout in the small town of Kala Shah Kaku, a few kilometres outside Lahore.
Officials said they were acting on a tip-off when they raided the Lion of Islams' hideout and had received intelligence that the group was planning an attack on the provincial headquarters of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
Al Qaeda's South Asian branch leader, Maulana Asim Umar ...chief of al-Qaeda's Sharia Committee for Pakistain, named head of al-Qaeda in India. His video appearances are frequently accompanied by clips of al Qaeda's senior propagandist in Pakistan, Ahmad Farooq. Umar the author of The Army of Anti-Christ: Blackwater, Documentation of the Dreadful Terrorist Activities of America's Blackwater in Islamic Countries... , was the "criminal mastermind of the plan," Khanzada said.
The claims could not be independently verified.
A bigwig, who did not want to be named, had earlier told Dawn that four bad boyz were potted in the encounter. One, identified as Abdali of Muridke, went kaboom! to avoid arrest, while three others were killed in a heavy exchange of fire, the official had said.
A huge cache of weapons including AK-47s, rocket launchers and boom jackets and laptops was seized in the raid, police said at the time.
An Al Qaeda presence remains in Pakistain since the killing of top leader the late Osama bin Laden ... who is no longer with us, and won't be again... in a 2011 raid by US forces in the Pak city of Abbottabad ... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden.... Many Islamist murderous Moslems from the western region near Afghanistan have fled to other parts of the country, officials say, as security forces press on with ground and air offensives in North Wazoo.

[Ynet] Joint effort by security service, IDF, and police has uncovered cell working towards renewal of activity in the West Bank, partly financed by gold smuggled from Jordan.

Questioning of the arrestees revealed that Hamas decided to renew its activities in the West Bank by creating a central headquarters in Nablus and expanding infrastructure, including the appointment of regional chiefs and allocating responsibilities in areas such as education, finance, communications, intelligence, gaining support, charity, transferring financial assistance to Hamas prisoners and their families, and laying the foundation for military action.
The investigation revealed that Husam Badran, a 49-year-old native of Nablus who lives in Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates... , was responsible for organizing the command's members and staying in direct touch with them. Badran was apparently involved in decisions about recruitment for different roles and transferring hundreds of thousands of dollars to the command center.
The bully boyz concealed their activities by using couriers and PO boxes. Funds were transferred partially by purchasing gold from Jordan and smuggling it into the West Bank.
The Shin Bet said Hussam Budran, operating under Saleh al-Arouri, the The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... -based head of Hamas operations in the West Bank, sent messages to the operatives in Nablus via "email channels," the Shin Bet said, apparently referring to non-direct messages, and laundered the money into gold jewelry transported into the West Bank from Jordan.

[RUDAW.NET] A front man for Syria's main Kurdish militia says his group's fighters have retaken a neighborhood attacked by Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... Lions of Islam in a key northern town.
Redur Khalil of the People's Protection Units, or YPG, said Wednesday that Kurdish fighters now fully control the border town of Tal Abyad, after capturing the northeastern neighborhood of Mashhour.

Gee, what border would that be where support is coming across... Lebanaon? Iraq? Jordan? well suprise surprise surprise... its Turkey! And the Turkish town of Akcakale right there at the border too, how convenient.
#2
This is actually a strategic capture, given that its a major high way nexus in the region.
Its the red ball route between Raqqa, the ISIS "capitol", and Turkey (the next one over is Kobane that the Kurds already control).
Just as important, or perhaps even more so, this town also has an E-W paved multilane road between Kursdish areas in northwestern Syria & northeastern Iraq and their forces in Kobane. It lets the Kurds move to/from Kobane without having to go thru Turkey.
The Kurds now control all the western major highway crossings at the Turkish border, an in much of that area that means they control the ONLY road crossings, there's not a lot of good N-S logistics capable road in the area that run down into ISIS territory from Turkey. And they have the best E-W road in that area now, giving them a lot of strategic mobility to swing E-W in response to ISIS, whose E-W axis is set back further. Think about the meaning of that to both ISIS and Turkey (tacitly supporting them).
This is more than half of the length of the Turkish/Syrian border.
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The United States and its allies conducted 17 air strikes against ISIS forces in Syria and Iraq Tuesday in the latest round of daily attacks on the holy warrior group, the joint task force overseeing the air strikes said.
There were five air strikes using attack, bomber and fighter aircraft in northern Syria, near Hassakeh, Kobani and Tal Abyad, the task force said in a statement Wednesday.
There were 12 air strikes using attack, bomber, fighter and drone aircraft in Iraq near Baghdadi, Al-Huwayjah, Al-Qaim, Habbaniyah, Kirkuk, ... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time... djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... , Rawah, Sinjar and Waleed, the statement said.
"All aircraft returned to base safely," the statement said.
