#1  Dear Mr. Ambassador,

Should "Saudi" women have the right to vote, to leave the house without being escorted by a male relative, to profess any faith or none, to wear whatever they choose, etc. etc.

Thanks in advance for ducking theses questions.

Fifth Column
Congressman Accuses US Troops Of 'Ethnic Cleansing'
In case we forgot Harry Reid's fantasy of al-Qaeda "civil war" in Iraq from yesterday, Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) reminds us why Democrats have gone out of their minds on the Iraq debate. Moran tells Congress during the funding debate that American troops "ethnically cleansed" Baghdad. No kidding (via The Corner):

"Sure, there's less violence, but that's because we've ethnically cleansed most of Baghdad."

The UN and most of the rest of the world define ethnic cleansing as a form of genocide. Moran believes that American troops have conducted that crime in Baghdad as part of a pacification program. His words have no other meaning.

Of course, such an allegation is absurd on its face. Refugees streaming back to the capital put lie to such a scurrilous charge. In the next breath, Moran notes that the Sunnis stopped fighting us and started fighting al-Qaeda. Would they have likely made a choice to support the side committing genocide -- or did they recognize who the real genocidal maniacs are?

The overall conduct of our military has been upright, honorable, and has given great credit to the nation. Unfortunately, despicable public servants such as Moran have no problem slandering them in order to score political points.
We drove the Arabs out of Baghdad?

#3  These guys have really crossed the line. Not only do they give aid and support to the enemy by boosting their moral and providing them with propaganda, they deliberately slander and accuse our troops of crimes against humanity in WARTIME!!

I'll say it and I don't care if I get sink trapped. These fuckers need killed. Lined up against a wall and shot for treason. Plain and simple.

We are at war, asshats. This isn't a game to score cheap political points. It is time for the government and the citizens of the United States to wake the fuck up and act like it. Bring ass-twats like this up on charges, try them, then fucking shoot or hang them.

#4  If you move all shia to shia neighborhoods and all sunni to sunni neighborhoods you have ethnically cleansed those neighborhoods without killing anyway.

Moran is an ass, and he may not mean this, but ethnic cleansing is not necessarily a bad thing as it removes targets from the range of jerk-hole militia hardboys who can't control their homicidal instincts.

#5  Saying this on the floor of the senate may protect you from charges asshole but it also makes it part of the public record.

Whoever runs again this asshat should use this against him and challenge him to provide credible evidence.

Somehow I don't think moron meant simply moving people around. I'm fairly certain he meant exactly what everyone is thinking.

#6  Moran's district is all of Arlington and Alexandria counties -- wall-to-wall liberals. He could bugger a yellow dog on the lawn of the Capitol and his constituents would pull the handle for him without thinking twice. So, alas, we're stuck with this POS for the foreseeable future.

Great White North
Mark Steyn is Not Alone by Jack Engelhard
There's a definite chill in the air and this cold front comes to us from Canada, where author Mark Steyn finds himself in trouble for speaking his mind. Steyn is a brilliant writer and many of us have been amused (he is often hilarious) and enriched by his commentaries upon our culture in general and, in particular, what awaits us if we don't face up to terrorism. He's written a book on that very subject, America Alone, and this book is a bestseller in America and number one in Canada - and it's also the number one reason he's being summoned for "hate crimes." Steyn, by the way, is a passionate friend of Israel, and no, he is not Jewish.

Two "human rights" panels, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal and the Canadian Human Rights Commission, have him on trial for his alleged claim that Islam does not square with Western ideals. Whatever the outcome, we're all on notice that Big Brother is watching. The word "tribunal" itself reeks of an Orwellian nightmare and Soviet gulagism.

From my own days in Montreal, I remember singing these words from Canada's national anthem: "O' Canada, Glorious and Free." Those words may have to be expunged. But is Steyn alone? Can't happen here in the US? Well it has been happening here.

Conservative, pro-Western and pro Israel commentators like Robert Spencer (Religion of Peace? his latest), Daniel Pipes and David Horowitz consistently get shouted down from campus to campus. Some get physically roughed up and require bodyguards and double security when they dare to deliver a message that displeases peace-loving professors and students. Some, like Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld, are being sued in British courts. Ehrenfeld wrote the book Funding Evil: How Terrorism Is Financed - And How To Stop It, and though the book was not published in the UK, it's still being taken up by the courts over there for defamation. Ehrenfeld refuses to recognize British jurisdiction and is fighting back through America's court system.

If Canada is on the verge of being "glorious and free" no more, "America Alone" (as Steyn has it) is being asked to remember that it is still the "land of the free" and "home of the brave." That's Steyn's thesis in a nutshell. He's counting on America to save the world from a campaign of tyranny being waged against words spoken and words written.

Bangladeshi novelist Taslima Nasrin is another writer in jeopardy, and on the run somewhere in Europe, after her words provoked riots among jihadists. Recent reports had it that she was rewriting a novel for fear of her life, but according a late posting on her web site, "Come what may, I will never be silenced."

This, then, is war, but it is not a war of words - it is a war against words. Israel has its own laws and tribunals for those who "insult public officials." Israel's political and cultural leaders, who whimsically define the word "insult" to isolate dissent from "right-wing" Israelis, may wish to consult Hatikvah for the stanza that summons the people "to be a free nation in our own homeland."

All this - Steyn's Canadian fatwa and the attempts to muzzle all freedom of expression - is not quite the same as the short life of Theo Van Gogh after he produced the documentary Submission. Nor is it quite the same as the fate of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who scripted that film and was forced to escape the Netherlands. She has since moved to the United States, where, of course, she travels with bodyguards. Not quite the same, but close enough to remind us that Mark Steyn is Not Alone.

#1  Can't we arrange to have the Halliburton Dissent Supression Division blow up a few tribunal office buildings?

After midnight, of course, so there is only property damage.

Will this be Sinktrapped for advocating violence? Or will it be perceived as an ironic joke? Inquiring minds want to know!

#2  Personally I think as far As Canada goes this is a tipping point. They were fools to pick on Steyn and should simply have let his book come and go. His sales will go through the roof as Canada is forced to look at what Muslims have done in the name of their religion, at demographic trends, etc, and decide is pointing out statistics racism or is there something nefarious going on as folks try to silence those that point such things out.

Not that he needs it but if he sets up a Mark Steyn defense fund I suspect he'll be flooded with cash.

#3  This will take a while to play out but look below the surface of whatever you read or hear about how it will be resolved. The MSM will scream and screech, the politicos will vent but in the end Mr. Steyn and Macleans magazine will be untouched. I keep saying in this forum that when we're upset about something we Canadians are more N@zi like than Adolph and company were. We're just more polite about it. The real fun will come afterwards when retribution is handed out. The RCMP is currently in disarray, the left wants to be everybody's best friend and the people who can actually DO THINGS are just keeping their heads down and staying quiet. For now.

#5  I'm reading the comments by Canuck. Sniper and rjschwar. Both are saying..."Not to worry...everything will be okay...tipping point...we'll strike back...etc..etc..etc.."

Like a 7 year old kid at Christmas...I still believe...I want to believe...BUT: I'm no longer so sure.

For goodness sake I read stories posted here at RB almost everyday and I say to myself: THIS will be the final straw...THIS will be the point were we - Western Civ - we begin to push back against the BS laid out everyday by the muzzies and their apologists. And it never happens...it never comes.

Example: last week there was a huge story out of Toronto, Canada about a 16 year old lady named Aqsa Parvez strangled by her father because she refused to wear the hijab. I don't even recall this story being touched upon at RB though it should have been. I read the story and thought to myself: This MIGHT wake the people up in Canada. Maybe now they will begin to see what their open immigration policies towards muzzies is bringing to their country. Hell no. The muzzies and their lib apologists have sold Canada on the notion that the Parvez murder was nothing more than run of the mill Domestic Violence...nothing to do with islam...move along...nothing to see here.

Spit. That child's honor killing had everything to do with islam and please don't try to tell me otherwise.

Antoher story from last week was the story of the Normandale CC in MN that turned a public room into a virtual mosque under the noses of the PC administration. A taxpayer funded muzzie only mosque for all intents and purposes. Where's the outrage? Where's the outrage? That's the point: there is no outrage. Can't have outrage because that would be insensitive.

WE - Western Civ - are losing the war against these backward f**king barbarians and their lying PR machines and the REAL tiny minority are those of us who see this happening and can't wake up our brethern citizens to the threat.

I prya that Canuk snipe and rjschwarz are right that all turns out well for Mr. Steyn. But as Mr. Steyn has already said himself: The mere fact that the charges have been accepted by the "human rights council" and will be pursued is enough in itself to chill the right of free speech in Canada. Once again, Steyn is right as rain.

We're losing the war because of rules played by a great and noble civilization. Would that our enemy played by those rules in his country. Spit, yeah, right.

#6  Maybe I'm wishful thinking but the English speaking peoples have always had a sense of right and wrong. The Brits for example were very wrong prior to WW2 because they wanted peace so badly. When the tipping point came they rolled up their sleaves and slugged it out against insane odds.

The rolls are somewhat reversed now with most of the US rolling up our sleaves and the rest of the English speaking peoples hoping to avoid conflict but sooner or later I believe we'll have the same result of everyone waking up and doing what has to be done.

The problem is the same as the one in WW2. A little action early could have saved a lot of bloodshed later but fact is, unlike some other groups in this world, it takes a lot to convince the English speaking people to get really bloody and when we do we don't tend to lose.

Perhaps what we need is a religious group of a small number (say the Jedi as they scored high in some internet religious poll) to start making demands and thus mock and put into perspective what the Muslims are demanding constantly. "He said the word try! We Jedi find that offensive and the word must be striken from public discourse. Do or do not, there is no try!"

#7  rjschwarz: The FSM (Flying Spaghetti Monster) is already making inroads against silly Christians (specifically, intelligent design types). Perhaps its noodly appendages will soon begin to swipe at Islam. One can hope.

For example, FSM followers may demand the right to go to work and get driver's licenses, while smothered in Parmesan cheese. Or, they may demand to stop work 5 times a day, and boil some noodles while facing towards Italy. It could happen ...
Posted by: Beau || 12/19/2007 22:10 Comments || Top||

#8  Or they may demand the right to stop working and look at news on the internet every 5 minutes. Who knows.

Olde Tyme Religion
"There Are Only Two Kinds of People in Al-Qaeda – The Ignorant and Those Who Seek Worldly Gain"
..just a snippet..a lot more interesting dirt on link

Major Jihadi Cleric and Author of Al-Qaeda's Shari'a Guide to Jihad: 9/11 Was a Sin; A Shari'a Court Should Be Set Up to Hold Bin Laden and Al-Zawahiri Accountable; There Are Only Two Kinds of People in Al-Qaeda – The Ignorant and Those Who Seek Worldly Gain

"Bin Laden and His Followers Lied to… [Mullah] Muhammad Omar and Betrayed Him"

Q: "What is your evaluation of the events of September [11], 2001?"

A: "The events of September [11], 2001, were betrayal of a friend and perfidy toward the enemy on the part of Al-Qaeda, and they were a catastrophe for the Muslims. All of these are traits of hypocrisy, and cardinal sins whose perpetrators are considered iniquitous - and whoever approves of their action shares their sin.

"This was betrayal of a friend, because bin Laden took the oath of allegiance to Mullah Muhammad Omar, leader of the Taliban, [and recognized him] as Commander of the Faithful in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. [Bin Laden] lived under his protection, and [Mullah] Muhammad Omar refused to hand over bin Laden to anyone.

"More than once [Mullah] Muhammad Omar ordered [bin Laden] not to clash with America, saying that he didn't have the capabilities for this, especially since Afghanistan and its people were the ones who paid the price for bin Laden's bombings in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam in 1998.

"Bin Laden and his followers lied to their Emir [Mullah] Muhammad Omar, betrayed him, violated [their] oath of allegiance to him, and carried out the events of 9/11 behind his back after having plotted them for more than two years in his country, Afghanistan, after Khalid Sheikh [Muhammad] suggested the idea to bin Laden. The Prophet said, 'Whoever defies [a ruler] has no excuse when he meets Allah'…"

"The Followers of Bin Laden Entered America… and Acted Perfidiously Toward Its People"

"This was perfidy towards the enemy, because they entered America with a visa, which is a contract of protection. There is no dispute about this among the scholars - even… [if someone] forges the signature of the residents of [the Abode of] War, and they believe it to be authentic, and then he enters their land, he is forbidden to betray them in anything - their lives, their honor, their property, without any distinction between combatants (military) and non-combatants (civilians) among the residents of [the Abode of] War, as long as he remains in their country…

"The followers of bin Laden entered America with his knowledge and by his order, and they acted perfidiously towards its people, and killed and destroyed… Then they called their treachery and their perfidy a 'raid' in order to compare their actions to the Prophet's raids. To tie their perfidy and treachery to the Prophet is to diminish him and to mock him, and the punishment for diminishing the worth of the Prophet is well-known to Muslims; Qadi 'Iyyad mentioned it in Al-Shifa, and Ibn Taymiyya in Al-Sarim Al-Maslul."

A Shari'a Court Should be Established to Hold Bin Laden and Al-Zawahiri Accountable

Q: "What was the extent of the impact of these events on the situation of Muslims in the world?"

A: "It was a catastrophe for the Muslims. [Al-Qaeda] ignited strife that found its way into every home, and they were the cause of the imprisonment of thousands of Muslims in the prisons of various countries. They caused the death of tens of thousands of Muslims - Arabs, Afghans, Pakistanis, and others. The Taliban's Islamic Emirate was destroyed, and Al-Qaeda was destroyed. They were the direct cause of the American occupation of Afghanistan and other heavy losses which there is not enough time to mention here. They bear the responsibility for all of this."

Q: "What is your opinion on the way in which bin Laden and Al-Zawahiri have managed the war against the Americans?"

A: "Bin Laden, Al-Zawahiri, and others fled at the beginning of the American bombing [in Afghanistan], to the point of abandoning their wives and families to be killed along with other innocent people.

"I think that a shari'a court should be established, composed of reliable scholars, to hold these people accountable for their crimes - even if in absentia - so that those who are ignorant in their religion do not repeat this futility.

"The Taliban used to punish a woman who left her house with her face uncovered - so how could the leaders of Al-Qaeda not be held accountable - they who caused the destruction of their country, the spilling of their blood, the destruction of their houses, whose children were orphaned and wives widowed - all of this in disobedience to their Emir?..."

"Many Ignorant People Admired Al-Qaeda's Actions Due to Their Lack of Knowledge in the Shari'a"

Q: "But some Islamists still praise what happened, despite the consequences."

A: "Many ignorant people admired Al-Qaeda's actions due to their lack of knowledge in the shari'a and their lack of knowledge concerning the conditions [required] for actions [to be permitted] and their true shari'a definitions.

"The peoples are ruled by emotions and think with their ears and not with their minds - that is, they admire what they hear without considering its true nature in their minds.

"What induces people to do this is their hatred for America. They don't see any good from it. Al-Qaeda plays on this chord just like Saddam Hussein, Ahmadinejad, and others do. America always supports Israel. Even [America's foreign] aid, the common people don't notice it, since it is either old weapons that America gets rid of to provide work for its factories, or old stocks of wheat it wants to get rid of, or birth control pills. This is American [foreign] aid - that is, America aids itself.

"People hate America, and the Islamist movements feel the hatred and the impotence, and they applaud anyone who locks horns with America, whether it's bin Laden, Ahmadinejad, or Saddam. Ramming America has become the shortest road to fame and leadership among the Arabs and Muslims. But what good is it if you destroy one of your enemy's buildings, and he destroys one of your countries? What good is it if you kill one of his people, and he kills a thousand of your people?...

#1  I prefer to set up a US military tribunal...from about 30,000 feet. Any defense attorneys or holy men as wish to represent or confront the accused are invited to meet with them 2 minutes before the hearing begins. Keep an eye on the gavel; when the gavel falls, judgment is not far behind.

#2  Notice that in over six years none of those hundreds of millions of "moderate Muslims" and no representative of the ROP, has ever, never issued or even demanded a fatwa against bin Laden and consorts. This is the first time so perhaps we should rejoice despite the fact that this guy says that the 9/11 attacks were illegitimate because it was case of guest turning against his host and thus every half competent imam will be able to assert that if you enter illegally without any kind of voisa (eg through the Mexican frontier) then you are allowed to perpetrate terrorism.

#11  The one thing that might punch through is if the northern icecap reconstitutes itself. However, I don't think there is a regular survey of the icecap that is published on the Internet.

If anybody knows of one, say so.
Posted by: Anonymoose || 12/19/2007 17:07 Comments || Top||

#12  Who cares about the northern ice cap anyway? If the whole thing melted, sea levels would not rise one millimeter. Ice shrinks as it melts. (The Greenland and Antarctic ice caps are different, since they are over land.)
Posted by: Rambler || 12/19/2007 17:11 Comments || Top||

#13  Rambler: The northern ice cap matters because it is a huge barrier between northern hemisphere nations.

Canada, Russia, the Norse countries, are all trying to territory grab if the ice melts. Trade and tourism among them could explode. It will also cause a major change in the flow of goods if the northwest passage opens as well.

And the US Navy will have a whole new ocean to police. And boy do they know it, really jumping to map the ocean floor and set up navigation equipment. It would mean the Russian Navy could get a LOT closer than they could before.

The bottom line is (typical), that everything the MMGW crowd is worried about is unimportant, and everything they are indifferent to will be world changing.

One other oddity that could matter is that there seems to be a volcano forming under part of Greenland, which could do all sorts of things.

#14  'Moose, by "caring", I meant about the "flooding" that will come from melting the Arctic ice cap. Obviously the world will be different if the whole ice cap melts. But at least it won't be underwater.

#15  Won't global warming make most the mooselimb areas a bit to hot for comfort?

Isn't that good?

#16  Let's see global cooling is caused by global warming. Global warming can explain everything and thus has no place in science. More like a religion. What hog wash.

#17  See also NEWSMAX > HOSTETLER - GET READY FOR GLOBAL COOLING. Author H. indics that cooling per se should officially begin circa Year 2009-2010. * HMMMM, Guam getting densely, darkly foggy like Britain-Euro, Dream > dipping my hand in cold ice-slushy = semi-frozen Pacific ocean waters, ..... ICE AGE MAMMOTHS GETTING TUSK CAVITIES + CONUS GLACIAL MELTS VIA COMET AIRBURSTS.

Home Front: Culture Wars
The true objective of "tolerant" intolerance
Orrin Judd, of the "Brothers Judd" blog, commenting on Mark Steyn's prosecution by the Canadian Human Rights Commission:

While, at first blush, the self-contradictory intolerance of the supposedly tolerant towards simple criticism of ideologies and the effective protection of the most intolerant of those ideologies can't help but seem odd to us it is important to recognize that the advocates are serving a higher cause, which is to so atomize the population as to make civic society an impossibility and render every individual dependent on the state. Thus the confusion about why America, the most notoriously conformist of modern countries, is so good at assimilation, while secular Europe, so tolerant and non-judgmental, is so ineffectual at integrating its immigrants. This latter result is precisely what the statist Left seeks, in order that its subjects, with too little in common to either trust one another or work in concert with one another, will cede ever more power over their own lives to the state in order to protect themselves from their neighbors.
