| #14 'Moose, by "caring", I meant about the "flooding" that will come from melting the Arctic ice cap. Obviously the world will be different if the whole ice cap melts. But at least it won't be underwater. |

| #13 Rambler: The northern ice cap matters because it is a huge barrier between northern hemisphere nations. Canada, Russia, the Norse countries, are all trying to territory grab if the ice melts. Trade and tourism among them could explode. It will also cause a major change in the flow of goods if the northwest passage opens as well. And the US Navy will have a whole new ocean to police. And boy do they know it, really jumping to map the ocean floor and set up navigation equipment. It would mean the Russian Navy could get a LOT closer than they could before. The bottom line is (typical), that everything the MMGW crowd is worried about is unimportant, and everything they are indifferent to will be world changing. One other oddity that could matter is that there seems to be a volcano forming under part of Greenland, which could do all sorts of things. |

| #12 Who cares about the northern ice cap anyway? If the whole thing melted, sea levels would not rise one millimeter. Ice shrinks as it melts. (The Greenland and Antarctic ice caps are different, since they are over land.) |

| #11 The one thing that might punch through is if the northern icecap reconstitutes itself. However, I don't think there is a regular survey of the icecap that is published on the Internet. If anybody knows of one, say so. |

| #9 If you want to know why we're having such cold weather, consider the fact that Sunspot Cycle 26 is something like 19 months late in starting (or it's "started", and there just haven't been any sunspots). Of course sunspots and the sunspot cycle "has nothing to do" with weather on earth... |
