#1

On reading this, the wife is no longer riding my back about the $250 7c/ft chest freezer I bought and stocked with Beef and Chicken.

HINT: According to the FDA/USDA published Frozen Food Storage charts meats properly stored in vacuum heat sealed bags and frozen at or below Zero degrees will remain safe indefinitely. Losing only minor flavor over the months or years.

#2 Some estimates have 10,000 but there is a lot of, pardon me, bullshit out there too.

110 is not unusual; we generally accept triple digits for extended days beginning late May through September. That it was cold (80s) and rainy and went straight to the 100s is tough, and with the humidity and lack of a breeze, lack of clouds is making the most sense at the moment.

Lots of people trying to ride this wagon, so keep your filters clean and the salt handy. For example, the forecast for last Wednesday had people screaming from the wheat fields about the high being 115F. The high ended up being mid-80s.

FWIW $250 for a 7 today is a hecuva deal; people around here who can are trying to bring their capacity up to at least 15cf as that will hold a cow and extras, or a half cow and pig, so forth.

#3 So I went to the link at looked at the pictures and it was just as I thought. These animals were fenced into an area that had no shade. They had no way to escape the direct heat of the sun. Grow some trees, morons, or build some patio covers so your livestock can find some shade. Is that so hard to figure out?

#4 Yes, the cows might be stupid but they know enough to seek shade when it's hot. I've seen them do it.

#6 Back in the late 50's early 60's in south central Alabama we built shades for the livestock. We weren't stupid and neither were the cattle.

#7 Those are not viable solutions to ranching this countryside.

Bunch of dangerous weather conditions happening all at once, including no wind, a rare thing. Fist I've heard of anything like this in scale.
