#1 He added: "Sniping is a cold and calculating art. You have to be prepared to kill someone at a long range who may not be posing any direct threat to you. Every sniper who deploys to Helmand will return with several kills, many will be into double figures and this is something which is not lost on al-Qaeda or their sympathisers. Islamists would see targeting snipers as something is "acceptable" because they are killing a soldier who has killed one of their brothers.

Imagine returning home and have to deal with the enemy at your house. Attackers jailed and their whole families need to be exiled.

#2 Wouldn't those British-based Islamist radicals be surprised if they found returning Army soldiers - especially snipers - were targeting them?

#3 I remember a rather chilling tale told by a retired FBI agent, whose neighbor was a retired British soldier who had fought in the Burma campaign, one of the most vicious fights in the Pacific War.

The FBI man noted that the vet's front door was ajar, so he went over to see if he was okay. He found the vet sitting in a comfortable chair, looking well, but across from him, sitting in another chair facing him, was a young man who looked awful.

He was an armed robber who had tried to rob the vet, and he was a mess. Hair askew, face covered with tears, sweat and snot, having soiled his pants in terror, but not a mark on him. Paralyzed in fear, he could not get off the chair.

On a coffee table between them sat the robber's loaded handgun. Within easy reach of the robber. The vet was seemingly unarmed.

The FBI agent called the police who had to lift the robber out of the chair, as he could not get up out of his own volition. Later the robber admitted to the police that he had tried to rob him, and intended to plead guilty.

The FBI agent, mystified, but not willing to say so, remarked to the vet, "You're going to have to get that chair cleaned."

#8 I'm confused, 49 Pan. Unlike Army Rangers, snipers engage at a distance, they don't hit people over the hear with a rock. How would that help if a group of idiot bad guys plans to jump one?
