‘Communism: interesting idea, wrong species’ (E. O. Wilson, 1929-2021). Gad Saad eulogizes the father of sociobiology
[Spin, Strangeness, and Charm] Edmund O. Wilson made academic enemies during his lifetime, particularly colleagues beholden to neo-Marxist dogma, such as Stephen Jay Gould and Richard Lewontin at his own university. As such he was subject to attempts to "cancel" him more than 40 years before the current epidemic of same. (He did not take any of this lying down, and it was a time when old-school liberals still broadly believed in freedom of speech, and an era before academia’s hostile takeover by the administrator class.)

I obviously do not agree with Wilson on everything — notably his notorious statement that religion would have to disappear to save humanity [his views on the subject appear to have vacillated] — but he blazed a new trail in science, beholden to the truth rather than to comforting lies, or lies in the service of G-dless religions in all but name.

Requiescat in pace, and may his memory be a blessing.

CDC Director Makes Stunning Admission About 'Comorbidities' and COVID Deaths
[PJ] As COVID cases have surged to unseen levels, despite Joe Biden’s promise to "shut down the virus," there’s been a noticeable shift in the narrative from the Biden administration.

After blaming Trump for the COVID deaths on his watch, the Biden administration is now downplaying the severity of COVID by pointing out the correlation between COVID deaths and comorbidities.

"Is it time to start rethinking how we’re living with this virus, that it’s potentially here to stay?" CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky was asked on Good Morning America.

"The overwhelming number of deaths, over 75 percent, occurred in people who had at least four comorbidities. So really these are people who were unwell to begin with," Walensky replied.

I don’t doubt that Walensky’s data is right, but why is the Biden administration suddenly admitting the link between COVID deaths and comorbidities? The liberal media has for nearly two years been presenting COVID as far more deadly than it really is to most people. In fact, according to a Rasmussen Reports survey from September, Americans who watch the liberal media are likely to overestimate the lethality of COVID by a factor of five. Americans who watch conservative media, however, are more likely to accurately estimate the lethality.

#3  I realize that I am a math major and took a whole year of probability and statistics, hence am able to analyze the CDC data and come to this conclusion a long time ago.

But not everyone in the whole country can be this ignorant, can they?

And woe to the media who have made hysteria generation their whole business model. There is a reason I've watched nothing but the weather report for the last two years.

#4  Similar to Tom, CDC data, about 16 months ago:

79% of deaths were over 65 (I am 73,but survived - probably - Omicron ten days ago)

Average number of commodities was 2.80, across all age groups.

The most common comorbidity was 'all other causes' - which included at least 23 different issues.

Next most common commodities were (2) influenza and pneumonia, (3) respiratory failure, and (4) obesity (except for those over 65, where hypertensive diseases replaced obesity).

I suspect a lot of those numbers are still good.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
19 killed in New York City apartment building fire
[Aljazeera] At least 19 people were killed, including nine children, and dozens of others injured in an apartment building fire in New York City’s deadliest blaze in three decades.

Trapped residents broke windows for air and stuffed wet towels under doors as smoke rose from a lower-floor apartment where the fire started. Survivors told of fleeing in panic through darkened hallways, barely able to breathe.

Nineteen people died in the blaze that broke out about 11am (16:00 GMT) on Sunday in the Twin Parks apartment building in the Bronx area of the city, New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed.

The 19-storey tower provided affordable housing and had a large community of people of Gambian origin. The children who died were 16 years old or younger, said Stefan Ringel, a senior adviser to the mayor.

"This is a horrific, horrific, painful moment for the city of New York," Adams told reporters. "The numbers are horrific."

More than five dozen people were hurt and 13 were hospitalised in critical condition. The fire commissioner said most of the victims had severe smoke inhalation.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The Hunter Connection? Kazakh Security Chief Arrested For Treason Was 'Close Friends' With Biden Crime Family
[MAIL] Among the boldest and eye-brow raising political moves by embattled Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev within the past days that grabbed international headlines was his ordering the arrest of Kazakhstan's powerful former intelligence chief, Karim Massimov, on the charge of high treason.

Indicating that amid widespread fuel price unrest which quickly became aimed squarely at toppling Tokayav's rule there's a simultaneous power struggle within the government, Massimov had headed the National Security Committee (KNB) up until his Thursday sudden removal and detention. Massimov had served as the prior longtime strongman ruler Nursultan Nazarbayev's prime minister and has long been considered his "right hand man". Shortly after, a photo has resurfaced, currently subject of widespread speculation which shows Joe Biden and Hunter Biden posing with the now detained Kazakh security chief Karim Massimov, along with well-connected oligarch Kenes Rakishev.

Further an email and communications have surfaced, previously subject of extensive reporting in The Daily Mail, and related to prior extensive commentary and questions concerning Hunter's 'laptop from hell' - that appears to confirm that Hunter Biden and Massimov were "close friends". Reporting at the time indicated that "when Biden was vice president, Hunter worked as a go-between between for Rakishev from 2012 until 2014. And further the emails were from "anti-corruption campaigners" in Kazakhstan showing that Hunter made contact with Rakishev. And more: "Per the report, Hunter successfully got a $1million investment from Rakishev to a politically-connected filmmaker."

According to a 2020 article in The New York Post written when the photo first began gaining attention among Western pundits, "The snap, first published by a Kazakhstani anti-corruption website in 2019, follows last week’s bombshell Post exposés detailing Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings and a report claiming Rakishev paid the Biden scion as a go-between to broker US investments." Concerning his relationship with Kazakh oligarchs and power-brokers, the NYPost story had detailed further:

Government Corruption
Supreme Court Poised To Block Biden's Workplace Vaccine Mandate
[Free Beacon] The Supreme Court signaled Friday that it will block President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for big businesses.

In an emergency hearing, the Court’s conservatives seemed persuaded by trade groups and red states who say vaccine mandates should be crafted by Congress or the states, and not a federal agency. The Biden administration’s rule requires covered businesses to compel vaccinations for their employees or regularly test the unvaccinated.

A victory for the plaintiffs would require the White House to fundamentally rework its pandemic strategy. The employer mandate is central to Biden’s bid to increase vaccinations, but it comes amid mounting frustration with his administration’s approach to the pandemic. Pervasive testing shortages linger a year into his term, and top officials have admitted that the emergence of new variants caught them by surprise.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued the vaccine rule in November. It directs businesses with more than 100 workers to mandate vaccines on their own or test unvaccinated workers on a weekly basis. Unvaccinated workers must wear masks at all times and pay out of pocket for testing. There are limited exceptions for employees who work remotely full time and those who work outside.

The Supreme Court's liberal members insisted courts have no business interfering with public health decisions during a pandemic.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor—who dialed into the argument from her chambers, rather than participate in-person—was the most outspoken member of the liberal trio and painted a dire picture of the pandemic. She claimed that the Omicron variant is as deadly as the preceding Delta variant and that at least 100,000 children are hospitalized "in serious condition" with COVID, some of whom are on ventilators.

Kazakhstan denies military laboratory was seized by rioters after Russia claimed a possible pathogen leak occurred at controversial facility
[MAIL] Officials in Kazakhstan have denied that a controversial 'military biological laboratory' was seized in the recent unrest, which has so far claimed 160 lives since starting on January 2.

It is not clear if the 164 deaths refer only to civilians or if law enforcement deaths are included, but the number - provided by the health ministry to state news channel Khabar-24 - are a significant rise from previous tallies.

Kazakh authorities said earlier on Sunday that 16 police or national guard members had been killed.

Russian media highlighted claims that the US-funded facility near Almaty was compromised, resulting in a possible leak of dangerous pathogens.

The airport, mayor's office and secret services buildings fell briefly into the hands of rioters during a wave of protests backed by shadowy armed cells.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tests positive for COVID-19
[CBS] Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has tested positive for COVID-19, her office said in a statement on Sunday.

"She is experiencing symptoms and recovering at home," the statement said. "The Congresswoman received her booster this fall and encourages everyone to get their booster and follow CDC guidelines."

The CDC recommends that Americans who test positive for COVID-19 and develop symptoms isolate for at least five full days. After those five days, the CDC says that people can stop isolating if they are "fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and your other symptoms have improved."

#4  Re-post ... these are authentic notes from a call a couple days ago with Edward Ryan MD, Director of International Infectious Disease at Massachusetts General Hospital:

AUTHOR: boriqua gato, on substack

TITLE: Yes, omicron is mild. The WHO are lying yet again when they claim otherwise

Dr. Edward Ryan of Mass General:

1 Close to 100% of the positive cases in MA are Omicron. Delta is almost completely gone from New England.

2 This surge will peak sometime between 1/10 and 1/21 and then begin a quick downhill journey of two to four weeks.

3 We will end up with a 20-50% positivity rate.

4 February will be clean up mode, March will begin to return to "normal"

5 Omicron lives in your nose and upper respiratory area which is what makes it so contagious. It isn't able to bond with your lungs like the other variants.

6 The increased hospitalizations should be taken with a grain of salt as most of them are secondary admissions (i.e. people coming in for surgery, broken bones, etc. who are tested for COVID)

7 We won't need a booster for omicron because they wouldn't be able to develop one before it's completely gone and we're all going to get it which will give us the immunity we need to get through it.

8 COVID will join the 4 other coronaviruses we deal with that cause the common cold, upper respiratory infections, RSV, etc. It will become a pediatric disease mainly affecting young children with no immunity.

9 40% of those infected will be asymptomatic

10 Rapid tests are 50-80% sensitive to those with symptoms, only 30-60% sensitive to those without symptoms

11 Contact tracing is worthless because we're all going to get it and there's no way we could keep up with it.

12 We are fighting the last war with COVID and should be pivoting back to normal life, but society isn't quite ready for it yet.

13 There is no need to stay home from work or to be a hermit unless you're immunocompromised or 85 or older, but he does recommend staying away from large gatherings for the next six weeks.

14 Spring/Summer will be really nice

Mo Brooks: COVID a ‘Bioweapon' Created in the ‘Wuhan Bioweapons Lab of the Communist Chinese Party'
[Breitbart] Representative Mo Brooks (R-AL) claimed that the COVID-19 pandemic was a manmade "bioweapon" created by the Communist Chinese during a Saturday appearance on the Fox News Channel.

Brooks, a candidate for U.S. Senate in Alabama, told FNC’s "Fox News Live" that it would be something we would have to "learn to deal with" despite a reluctance to discuss the pandemic by Democrat leaders.

"[T]he bottom line is this — and people need to understand this: This is a bioweapon that was created in the Wuhan bioweapons lab of the Communist Chinese Party, in conjunction with the People’s Liberation Army," he said. "It’s going to be around for a long time, and we have to learn to deal with it. We cannot shut ourselves up, which is one of the policies that unfortunately has done so much damage to our economy at the assistance of Democratic governors, mayors, and to some degree, President Joe Biden. That isn’t going to work."

FNC’s Jacqui Heinrich questioned the merits of Brooks’ claim, adding there was "not any proof" of the claim it was a "bioweapon."

Brooks insisted he had seen proof and doubled down on the claim.

"I have seen enough information — some of it classified, some of it not, some of it consisting of private meetings with someone who worked in that program in Communist China, who was a part of their bioweapons program, telling us what was transpiring. It is a bioweapon. It is manmade, and it was manmade at the Wuhan bioweapons lab. Now, can I say that with a hundred percent certainty? No. But I can say that with a high, high, high degree of confidence, and that’s my belief."

Sudan Seizes Smuggled Ammunition from Libya
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (SRSF) announced that they had thwarted an attempt to smuggle a quantity of ammunition on the border with Libya that was on its way into Sudan.

Two members of an arms and ammunition trade gang operating on the border between the two countries were arrested, according to an official statement issued by the SRSF.

The Sudanese Lieutenant-Colonel, Othman Abkar, said that as soon as information arrived on the activity of smuggled gangs in the Saif al-Barli area on the border triangle, a patrol moved to survey the area.

He added that the gang was chased 10 kilometers from the area. He added that 3,638 rounds of the Grenov machine gun were seized, and 357 rounds of Dushka packed in sacks.

In September, the SRSF seized a shipment of weapons from Libya, and arrested around four smugglers, including two Libyans.

"Our forces deployed on the border strip between Sudan, Egypt, and Libya, managed to seize a shipment of weapons, ammunition, and explosives coming from Libya," the SRSF said in a statement.

The SRSF Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Ali Ahmed Mahmoud Awajeh, said the SRSF units were dispatched to the Saif al-Barli area on the border triangle after receiving intelligence information about the presence of arms-trading gangs in the area.

The SRSF patrols clashed with the smuggling gang three kilometers from Saif al-Barli area and chased them.

"After the festivities, the forces confiscated two GMC cars carrying 36 Kalashnikov rifles and a box of Kornet grenades, Dushka cannon, RPG-7 launchers, and a large number of various kinds," the statement revealed.

Notably, the transational government in Sudan closed the country’s borders with Libya many times, citing security and economic risks. It repeatedly complained of arms smuggling across its borders.

Last April, the Sudanese Security and Defence Council, the highest authority in the country, decided to monitor the borders to prevent the flow and spread of weapons, in the wake of violence that broke out in Sudan on April 3rd and lasted for more than a week.

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
the new Governor of the western Darfur region, Mini Arko Minawi, in August decided to re-open the borders for trade with Libya and other neighboring countries.

-Great Cultural Revolution
The Disgraceful Howard Zinn
[CLAREMONTREVIEWOFBOOKS] Despite many serious scholars’ denunciations, Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States has enjoyed phenomenal success since its publication in 1980: 2.6 million (!) copies sold, incorporation into the curricula of innumerable schools, and the achievement of almost iconic status in popular culture. Mary Grabar’s Debunking Howard Zinn: Exposing the Fake History That Turned a Generation against America performs a valuable service by examining Zinn’s polemical volume and revealing "just how distorted, manipulative, and plain dishonest" it truly is.

A tireless left-wing activist with a Ph.D. in history, Zinn (1922—2010) urged fellow historians, as Grabar relates, to eschew "disinterested scholarship" in order to bring about "a revolution in the academy."
Ugh. Such a tiresome cliché.
Not all radical academics agreed with his anti-capitalist take on history. Eugene Genovese declined to review Zinn’s opus, which he privately described as "incoherent left-wing sloganizing." Michael Kammen called it "a scissors-and-paste-pot job" that devoted too much attention to "historians, historiography, and historical polemic" and hence provided "little space for the substance of history." Kammen acknowledged the need for "a people’s history; but not single-minded, simpleminded history, too often of fools, knaves and Robin Hoods."

Eric Foner disapproved of Zinn’s "deeply pessimistic vision of the American experience" that emphasized how "stirring protests, strikes and rebellions never seem to accomplish anything." Zinn’s approach to "history from the bottom up" was "necessary as a corrective" but was "as limited in its own way as history from the top down." Michael Kazin credited Zinn "with virtuous intentions" but concluded that his book was little more than a "Manichean fable" and a "polemic disguised as history," a book "grounded in a premise better suited to a conspiracy-monger’s website than to a work of scholarship" and "unworthy of [the] fame and influence" it won. Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., regarded Zinn as "a polemicist, not a historian."

In a 2012 survey conducted by the left-leaning History News Network, asking readers to identify the "least credible history book in print," A People’s History won second place (just behind David Barton’s The Jefferson Lies [2012]). Some respondents condemned Zinn’s work as "cheap propaganda" and "the historians’ equivalent of medical malpractice."

* * *

Grabar’s book systematically reviews A People’s History, comparing it unfavorably to reputable scholars’ works. Born in Slovenia but raised in the U.S., Grabar earned a Ph.D. in English and taught at a number of colleges and universities in Georgia before becoming a resident fellow at the Alexander Hamilton Institute for the Study of Western Civilization. She starts with Zinn’s influential account of Christopher Columbus, much of it plagiarized from Columbus: His Enterprise: Exploding the Myth (1976), a crude work written for high schoolers by his friend and fellow activist Hans Koning. The leftist London Guardian described Koning’s work as "a highly polemical biography" that told "a dark story of exploitation and fanaticism" tantamount to genocide. Zinn also plagiarized from Edward Countryman, a fellow radical historian.

In addition to copying without attribution from secondary sources, Zinn cited primary sources like Bartolomé de Las Casas’s 16th-century History of the Indies, from which he quoted passages in a disingenuous manner that misrepresented their significance. Zinn maintained that Columbus thought the tribe he first encountered (the Taíno, whom Zinn calls the Arawaks) was fit for slavery, when in fact the explorer speculated that the wounds sustained by the Bahamian island’s natives had been inflicted by mainlanders who sought to enslave them. Zinn ascribed the impulse behind Columbus’s mission to greed, ignoring the strong religious motivations of both Columbus and his royal sponsors. He anachronistically depicted the tribes that Columbus encountered on his four voyages—and, in addition, North American tribes that interacted with European settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries—as peaceful feminists, environmentalists, democrats, and communists avant la lettre.

There's A Reason No One Likes Kamala Harris
[TOWNHALL] Most people look at the choice of Kámala Harris
Former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's former mistress, then a senatrix from California, and then a former 2020 Dem presidential hopeful. She dropped out because she was polling in negative numbers because of racism or misogyny or something like that. Her father is a Marxist professor emeritus at Stanford and her mother is an Indian of the Hindoo tribe. She is reputedly the proud descendant of a long line of women. Joe Biden picked her for her skin tone, feeling she could also bring in the Native American, women's, and bimbo votes. She's an outstanding exemplar of the Peter Principle, proudly displaying her level of competence in her handling of the Biden Border Surge
for Vice President and scratch their head. "Why would anyone pick a person so wildly devoid of political talent or even the basics of likability?" they wonder. The conventional wisdom is that she checked the right number of boxes to fulfill left-wing interest group demands, which is partially true, of course. Overlooked, however, is how there is one more, rather good and important reason Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Sleazy Dem machine politician, paterfamilias of the Biden Crime Family, the guy who bungled Afghanistan...
, or really any politician, would pick someone like Harris: because by comparison, you’ll always look better.

Harris is such a singularly grating personality that she polls lower than lemon juice on an open wound. Death by wood chipper is less likely to incur the wrath of human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
activists for torture than forcing someone to listen to Kamala’s speeches. If you’re an incompetent politician, partnering with someone possessing all the public charm and warmth of explosive diarrhea means you will always come off better than you otherwise would because the alternative is so horrible.

That’s what, and all, Kamala Harris brought to the ticket.

If anyone needed another example of how awful she is, her speech on Thursday provided it.

CDC refutes Justice Sotomayor's assertion that 100,000 US children hospitalized from COVID-19
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] The CDC is setting the record straight after Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
Justice Sonia Sotomayor claimed that the Omicron variant has placed 100,000 US children in the hospital, with CDC Director Rochelle Walensky stating that just a mere fraction of that number of kids has been hospitalized. In an interview with "Fox News Sunday," Walensky confirmed to host Bret Baier that fewer than 3,500 children are in the hospital with COVID-19.

While the number of children hospitalized with COVID-19 remains low, the CDC chief stressed the importance of getting vaccinated against the virus, stating that those children that were hospitalized generally were not vaccinated.

"Yeah, but, you know, here's what I can tell you about our pediatric hospitalizations now," Walkensky said. "First of all, the vast majority of children who are in the hospital are unvaccinated, and for those children who are not eligible for vaccination we do know they are most likely to get sick with COVID if their family members aren't vaccinated."

As the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case involving the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft
...the gang of subgeniuses trying to pass themselves off as the adults in charge of the series of calamities characteristic of the administration of a mentally challenged geriatric case...
's vaccine mandate on Friday, Sotomayor claimed that "We have over 100,000 children, which we've never had before, at death's door and many on ventilators." The justice was later lambasted for using the alarmist language Friday and overstating the number of child hospitalizations.

Walensky also noted that the number of those in the hospital that have COVID-19 generally include patients who go to hospitals for other reasons and happen to test positive while they are there, as opposed to those who go to the hospital because they are sick with COVID-19.

Putting on my geek hat, reviewing courts including the Supremes are supposed to work with the record developed by the trial court. The Supremes aren't supposed to investigate the facts, conduct discovery, or get "facts" from the NYT. And Sotomayor's numbers show why that rule is a really good one.

Portland men who shot and killed pregnant woman during burglary sentenced to only 7.5 and 10 years in prison, respectively

[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] On Friday, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced the convictions of two men found guilty in the shooting death of a 21-year-old pregnant woman inside her Portland
...a formerly lovely city in Oregon, governed by an unholy alliance of communists, anarchists, and incompetents. In 2017 the city was named as the fifth most business-friendly in the nation. It took only three years for the city to degenerate to the point where it became a national embarrassment, with antifa and Black Lives Matter bullying taxpayers and occasionally shooting one as an example to the others...
, Oregon, apartment in August of 2014.

27-year-old De'Anthony Simmons and 29-year-old Kelani Brown pleaded guilty to charges of Manslaughter in the Second Degree with a Firearm and Burglary First Degree stemming from the homicide of Ervaeua Ronchelle Herring, according to a blurb from the Multnomah County District Attorney's office.

Simmons received a 10-year prison sentence, while Brown was senteced to 7.5 years in prison for the separate convictions announced Friday.

According to the district attorney's office, the shooting of Herring came as a retaliation to an earlier fight in downtown Portland. Simmons and Brown were reportedly present during the fight when an associate of theirs was shot.

Two black men involved in shooting dead a pregnant 21-year-old Portland, Ore. woman when they broke into her home were sentenced today to only 10 years & 7.5 years in prison, respectively. The convicts & their armed accomplices fired 30 rounds into her apartment.

"In retaliation, Brown, Simmons, and others drove to Herring's apartment complex looking for DeAndrae Stevens, who was associated with individuals that participated in the fight. Herring and Stevens shared a child," the DA's office wrote. Six armed gunmen reportedly entered the wrong apartment while looking for Stevens' apartment threatening the resident and her small children with guns.

"Realizing their mistake, the gunmen knocked on Herring's back door and fired approximately 30 shots into the apartment when she came to the door, killing Herring," the district attorney's office wrote. Investigations revealed that gang activity was a "common thread" between Stevens and the defendants.

The trail was scheduled to begin Monday, but the prosecution was "hampered by multiple critical witnesses' reluctance to testify due to safety concerns."

Stevens was also fatally shot two weeks ago in Portland, contributing further to "safety concerns" and "lack of cooperation" among critical witnesses.

Four other defendants have previously pled guilty in connection to the case.

Jeffrey Lamont Sims Jr. pled guilty to second-degree manslaughter, Latasha Lynn Davis pled guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, Tony Lamar Brown pled guilty to murder, first-degree burglary and unlawful use of a weapon, and Geontae Brauchard Jones plead guilty to second-degree manslaughter with a firearm, according to The Oregonian.

Another defendant, Demetruis Ray Brown, had charges dropped after it was determined that he was unfit to stand trial.

Herring, who was pregnant at the time of her death, was killed by a barrage of bullets fired from at least six guns through the sliding back door of her Eastwood Village Apartment on Southeast Powell Boulevard, according to police and prosecutors.

The Aug. 17, 2014, shooting stemmed from a feud between the Woodlawn Park Bloods and Hoover gang — and came hours after two Hoover gang members were pistol-whipped and one was shot in downtown Portland, according to court papers.

After the downtown violence, Hoover gang members are accused of shooting up Herring’s apartment in retaliation while looking for DeAndrae Stephens, who was associated with the people who participated in the earlier fight downtown, according to police.

Florida couple abducted man for three days and tortured him
[NYPOST] A Florida man was chained and tortured over three days by two people who tried to force him to admit to infidelity, authorities said.Marie Dorsainvil, 51, and Occius Dorsainvil, 56, are now facing kidnapping and attempted murder charges after they forced the man to drink bleach and threatened him that if he went to the bathroom he’d have to eat it or be killed.

It wasn’t clear how the two suspects are related.

The hellish three days began in December when Marie asked the victim for a ride to her apartment, police told WTVJ. She allegedly invited the victim upstairs, but he declined, insisting that both he and Dorsainvil were married. She reportedly told the victim that her husband was away in Haiti, and they went in together.

While the victim was sitting on the couch, Occius allegedly entered the apartment with a gun. He threatened the victim and bound his hands and feet together with a chord, police said.

The duo forced him to record a statement admitting that was having an affair with the suspect’s wife.

The crisis in Kazakhstan is part of a hybrid aggression against Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Valery Mikhailov

[RIA] Events in Kazakhstan have every chance to present a number of surprises for Ukraine as well. The most obvious of them and lying practically on the surface is the deepening energy crisis in the country. Some local pseudo-experts very quickly found the "hand of Moscow " in what is happening in Kazakhstan. And the troubles expected by Ukraine as a result of these events serve as a lethal argument for a significant part of Ukrainian inhabitants, confirming this exotic version. Indeed, through the efforts of propaganda, an absolutely Ukrainian-centric universe has been formed in their heads.

Former Libyan Prime Minister Prepares Case Against Tunisia
[LIBYAREVIEW] The Libyan Prime Minister during the rule of Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
, al-Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi, intends to file a case against Tunisia before the Libyan judiciary and the International Criminal Court (ICC), after he was acquitted of the charges brought against him.Al-Mahmoudi was imprisoned in Libya from 2011 to 2019, after Tunisia handed him over to Libya. Although al-Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi has distanced himself from politics, those close to him regularly seek his opinion on Libyan issues.

The former Prime Minister who now lives in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) enjoys freedom of movement, especially in Europe.

Based on a ruling issued by the Tunisian judiciary, the Tunisian government of Hamadi Jebali, one of the most prominent leaders of the Ennahda movement, handed him over to the Libyan authorities in June 2012, despite his legal refugee status.

Al-Mahmoudi, who served as Prime Minister under Qadaffy since 2006, was arrested in the Tozeur region in southern Tunisia in September 2011. After the decision to extradite him to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, he announced at the time that he had entered a hunger strike in his prison in Tunisia.

Al-Baghdadi was sentenced to death in 2015, but a Libyan court later acquitted him of the charges against him.

Mabrouk Khorchid, al-Mahmoudi’s lawyer in Tunisia, said neither he nor Mr. Mahmoudi’s family had been given any warning that his client will be extradited.

"I believe this is a state crime and is against human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
," he told the New York Times

... which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

. "This is a sad moment for human rights in Tunisia. I think he’s going to be tortured and treated illegally and believe that those who handed him over bear part of the responsibility."

Thousands detained after Kazakhstan unrest
[DW] Almost 6,000 people have been arrested after a wave of protests that triggered a political crisis in Kazakhstan. The violence has claimed 164 lives, according to the latest government figures.

The number of people arrested by security forces during the violent mostly peaceful anti-government protests in Kazakhstan has reached almost 6,000, the presidential office announced on Sunday.

A statement from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's office said "a substantial number of foreign nationals" were among the detainees.

Authorities have launched a brutal clampdown and were able to largely bring the situation under control in the country's largest city, Almaty, after Russia responded to Tokayev's call for help by sending several thousand soldiers.

"The situation has stabilized in all regions of the country," the presidential statement said.

WHAT IS THE AFTERMATH OF THE VIOLENCE?
State television, citing the country's Health Ministry, reported on Sunday that 164 people had been killed during the unrest and over 2,200 were maimed. This marks a sharp jump from a previous toll provided by the government, when officials said 40 people have died, including protesters.

Speaking from the Kazakh capital, Nur-Sultan, on Sunday, Interior Minister Erlan Turgumbayev gave a rundown of the damage he claimed was left by the protests and festivities over recent days.

Some 400 cars, mostly police cars, were destroyed in the violence, as well as more than 100 shopping centers and banks.

Detainees are facing charges of violence against government officials, hooliganism, murder and theft, with 125 pre-trial investigations already having begun.

WHY DID THE PROTEST START?
Citizens erupted into the streets following a steep rise in fuel prices last weekend, but the protests quickly grew in scope to encompass a series of economic and political grievances. Most of their anger was directed at the country's former President Nursultan Nazarbayev
...served as the President of Kazakhstan since the Fall of the Soviet Union and the nation's independence in 1991. Contrary to commonly held belief, there is a difference between Kazakhs and Cossacks: Kazakhs have mustaches. Cossacks wear those great big hats. Or maybe it's the other way around...
, who led the country from the breakup of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s before stepping down and naming Tokayev as his successor in 2019.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
Nazarbayev kept control of the country's powerful Security Council, and was only ousted by Tokayev during the unrest this week.

After the violence led to dozens of deaths among both protesters and security forces, Tokayev ordered the security forces on Friday to open fire at protesters without warning, referring to protesters as "bandidos" and "terrorists."

Peacekeeping forces from the Russia-dominated Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) entered the country in their thousands after Tokayev appealed for assistance against the protests.
The Times of Israel adds:
Kazakhstan’s health ministry said Sunday that 164 people have been killed in protests that have rocked the country over the past week.

The figures reported on the state news channel Khabar-24 are a significant rise from previous tallies. It is not clear if the deaths refer only to civilians or if law-enforcement deaths are included. Kazakh authorities said earlier Sunday that 16 police or national guard had been killed. Authorities previously gave the civilian death toll as 26.

Most of the deaths — 103 — were in Almaty, the country’s largest city, where demonstrators seized government buildings and set some afire, according to the ministry. The country’s ombudswoman for children’s rights said that three of those killed were minors, including a 4-year-old girl.

The ministry earlier reported more than 2,200 people sought treatment for injuries from the protests, and the Interior Ministry said about 1,300 security officers were injured.

The office of Kazakhstan’s president said that about 5,800 people were detained by police during the protests that developed into violence last week and prompted a Russia-led military alliance to send troops to the country.

It was unclear how many of those detained remained in custody on Sunday.

Gov. Inslee proposes bill making it illegal for elected leaders, candidates to spread election fraud lies
[MYNORTHWEST] Gov. Jay Inslee
...Governor of Washington state and failed candidate for the 2020 Dem presidential campaign, mainly because nobody outside the state and some inside had ever heard of him. He complained, complained, complained that the Trump administration wasn't doing enough to help the state, then returned an Army field hospital and 400 ventilators that didn't get used...
proposed new legislation on Thursday, which would make it a misdemeanor for elected leaders or candidates to spread unfounded allegations of voter fraud.Election fraud narrative becomes common thread among state’s Republican candidate

Speaking on the one-year anniversary of the now-infamous U.S. Capitol riot, Inslee opined that "the threat to our democracy is just as dangerous on January 6, 2022, as it was a year ago."

"I think we do need to do much more than commemorate this day of infamy," he said as part of the News Agency that Dare Not be Named’ 2022 legislative preview. "I think we need to realize that this is a continuing effort to continue the ’big lie,’ to cast doubt on the fundamental workings of our democracy — we simply have to realize the nature of this challenge."

That has Inslee pushing for a bill in the state Legislature that would "make it a gross misdemeanor to lie about these election results without any basis."

"I think we need to do more than speak," he proposed. "It should not be legal in the state of Washington for elected officials or candidates for office to willfully lie about these election results. This needs to be made illegal."

Inslee highlighted three Republican state politicians — Representatives Brad Klippert, Robert Sutherland, and Vicki Kraft — who used taxpayer dollars to attend MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell’s cyber-symposium on election fraud, and who have continued to support claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

Five Injured As Farmers, Fulani Herdsmen Clash In Kwara
[SAHARAREPORTERS] At least five persons have been injured following a disagreement on grazing rights between farmers and herders, which degenerated into a bloody clash in Kwara State.

It was gathered that trouble started when some farmers confronted two herders for allegedly grazing their cows on their cassava farm.

A farmer, Alaparo Tunde, and his two sons, Saheed and Tunde, from Alaparo Village, reportedly confronted a herder, Haruna Adamu, who was caught grazing on their cassava farm with his cattle.

The confrontation between the farmers and the herder, it was further gathered resulted in hot argument and consequently the two parties engaged in a fight with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

He said, "It took the intervention of operatives of the Agro Ranger Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, to prevent what could have resulted in a full-scale bloody clash between farmers and herders in Alapa community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

"The Agro Ranger Unit of the corps got a distress call from Alapa community and promptly deployed officers to the scene of the incident. On Saturday 08/01/2022, based on a distress call from Alapa community in Asa local government area of the state, our commandant, Makinde Iskil Ayinla directed the immediate deployment of the operatives of the Agro Ranger Unit to the location and thier timely arrival put the situation under control.

"Both the herder and the farmer’s two sons were seriously injured and were later taken to nearby hospital where they are responding to treatment. In the meantime, security has been beefed up in the community while full scale investigations are ongoing to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the incident and how to prevent any act of reprisal."

Four year old child loses leg in suspected Turkish attack
[Rudaw] A four-year-old child lost his leg in a suspected Ottoman Turkish attack on the Kurdish town of Kobane in northern Syria on Saturday.

The attack targeted around 15 villages in the countryside of Kobane, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), killing one and wounding twelve others, including women and kiddies.

A photo of the four year old Abdou Mustafa Hanifi, who lost a leg in the attack on the village of Qarmog, broke the internet on Saturday with the Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) media head Farhad Shami calling out The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
as responsible.

Turkey is yet to release a statement on the attack, however an unofficial source tracking the Ottoman Turkish military operations on Saturday confirmed attacks on Kobane and the village of Qarmog, claiming that the Ottoman Turkish artillery units struck Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) targets.

Video footage published by the SDF affiliated Hawar News Agency (ANHA) on Saturday showed the moment of the attack on Qarmog village, from which at least three women were maimed and were carried to a car close by.

Ankara often targets north and north and east Syria (Rojava), killing and injuring civilians and security forces.

Border Patrol Reports 1,066 Percent Increase in Fentanyl Seized in South Texas
[THEEPOCHTIMES] U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has reported a 1,066 percent increase in fentanyl seized in south Texas ports during fiscal year 2021.Border agents at eight ports of entry extending from Brownsville to Del Rio said that between Oct. 1, 2020, and Sept. 30, 2021, they seized 87,652 pounds of narcotics that would have commanded a combined estimated street value of $786 million, CBP reported on Jan. 5.

Of this, 41,713 pounds was marijuana, 8,592 pounds was cocaine, 33,777 pounds was methamphetamine, 1,215 pounds was heroin, and 588 pounds was fentanyl. That’s a 1,066 percent increase in fentanyl seizures, as well as a 98 percent increase in cocaine seizures, from the year prior.

They also reported having seized $10.4 million in unreported currency, 463 weapons—up 21 percent from FY 2020—and 84,863 rounds of ammunition.

The eight ports of entry comprise the Laredo Field Office. The CBP officers at these ports of entry also noted that in FY 2021, more than 20,701 non-U.S. citizens were inadmissible to the United States due to violations of immigration law.

Randy J. Howe, the Laredo Field Office’s director of field operations, said in a statement that despite significantly less traffic due to travel restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic, "the drug and contraband threat remained the same."

"Our significant gains in fentanyl and cocaine seizures underscore the deadly nature of the contraband we encounter, the need to utilize Personal Protective Equipment to protect our officers and our continued resolve to carry out our vital border security mission," he said.

Fentanyl is a highly addictive and deadly drug that’s about 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin. Just a 2-milligram dose of the synthetic opioid can be deadly.

Watershed moment in NYC: New law allows noncitizens to vote
Thereby erasing any difference between cititzen and non-citizen.
[APNEWS] More than 800,000 noncitizens and "Dreamers" in New York City will have access to the ballot box — and could vote in municipal elections as early as next year — after Mayor Eric Adams
...retired New York City police captain, member of the New York State Senate, first Black Brooklyn borough president, law and order Dem after a brief fling with the Publicans. The New York Times isn't fond of him, suspecting he may not actually be black...
allowed legislation to automatically become law Sunday.Opponents have vowed to challenge the new law, which the City Council approved a month ago. Unless a judge halts its implementation, New York City is the first major U.S. city to grant widespread municipal voting rights to noncitizens.

More than a dozen communities across the U.S. already allow noncitizens to cast ballots in local elections, including 11 towns in Maryland and two in Vermont.

Noncitizens still wouldn’t be able to vote for president or members of Congress in federal races, or in the state elections that pick the governor, judges and politicians.

The Board of Elections must now begin drawing an implementation plan by July, including voter registration rules and provisions that would create separate ballots for municipal races to prevent noncitizens from casting ballots in federal and state contests.

4 teens arrested in Edina carjacking attempt
[STARTRIBUNE] Four teenagers were arrested within hours after an attempted carjacking Friday in Edina.Police got a tip around 7 p.m. that the suspects — three juvenile girls and an 18-year-old male — were driving around St. Paul, and a Ramsey County deputy spotted the suspect car at a gas station in the 900 block of Lexington Parkway. The man in the car drove off, leaving the girls behind, and they were arrested and taken to the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.

The driver was arrested by Ramsey County deputies on suspicion of fleeing from police and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Hours earlier, a woman had been punched and sprayed in the face with a chemical irritant in the attempted carjacking in Edina's Country Club neighborhood. At 5:15 p.m., Edina police received a call about an attempted carjacking and aggravated robbery in the 4300 block of Sunnyside Road, according to a news release. The 49-year-old victim was returning to her vehicle when another car pulled up and two teenage girls jumped out, said they had a gun and demanded her car. The victim resisted and was punched and sprayed with the chemical, police said. The two stole the victim's wallet and cellphone, but didn't get the victim's vehicle.

Police thought the suspect vehicle was stolen in Minneapolis two days earlier in a different carjacking and the license plate was known, Edina police said.

#2  Edina used to be a pretty conservative area, but changed to being quite 'progressive' in the last thirty years as the city folks from Minneapolis/St, Paul started moving there to escape the deteriorating conditions in their former neighborhoods (and bringing their detrimental thought processes with them).

Usually a nice quiet area of around 50,000 population, with a surprising number of fairly famous folks from there including John Denver who lived there for a bit.

Mostly upper middle income residential, although a few major corporations have headquarters within the city.

We Must Have Mask Mandates and Vaccine Mandates
[PJMedia] Days after being photographed maskless in Florida, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has tested positive for COVID.

"Representative Ocasio-Cortez has received a positive test result for COVID-19," her office said in a statement. "She is experiencing symptoms and recovering at home."

Her office also confirmed that Ocasio-Cortez was fully vaccinated and received her booster shot this past fall. Despite contracting COVID while fully vaxxed and boostered, Ocasio-Cortez "encourages everyone to get their booster and follow all CDC guidance."
It worked so well for her.
AOC has been a strong supporter of COVID restrictions, yet she hypocritically enjoyed going maskless in Florida over New Year’s weekend. She responded to the criticism of her hypocrisy by accusing Republicans of wanting to date her.

It is not clear how or when she contracted COVID, but she’ll probably blame Ron DeSantis for making her go maskless in Florida.

New Corona Variant Identified In France
(MSN) B.1.640.2 was discovered in a traveler returning from Cameroon and has even more mutations than Omicron. And a first "Flurona" case has occurred in Israel. Just when we thought things were looking up at least a little, because the omicron variant, while being more contagious, often takes a milder course than delta, a new variant emerged. We do not yet know how dangerous it is or where it originated.

The new variant was detected in early December in a traveler who returned to France from Cameroon, the hospital IHU Méditerrannée in Marseille announced. The returnee from Cameroon reportedly infected 12 people in southern France.

OMG! If mutations are like super-powers then 46 mutations makes this an unstoppable super-virus. AIEEE!

Except that is not how it works. Mutations are errors when DNA is copied. They accumulate over time because you get all the old mutations + any new ones each time you replicate a virus. Sounds scary though, right?

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Lebanon's Notorious 'Serial Harasser' Held in U.S. for Assaulting Woman
[An Nahar] Marwan Habib, a 32-year-old Lebanese man who faced dozens of sexual harassment and assault allegations in Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity™, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade...
, has been arrested in the U.S. for breaking into a woman's Miami Beach hotel room and assaulting her.According to U.S. media reports, the victim, who was visiting from the U.S. Midwest with a friend, was able to defend herself.

She reported meeting Habib, a trainer, at a clothing store where the two exchanged numbers and connected on social media. She also told officers she had planned to meet up with Habib.

"The woman told police that she was sleeping in her hotel room on November 7 when she woke up to Habib in the room with her," the reports said.

Habib was able to convince the front desk personnel at the hotel to give him a key to her room, police said.

Other women in the U.S. also reported Habib’s "odd and concerning" behavior in Miami Beach before, according to the arrest report.

In Lebanon, Habib was the subject of similar accusations by dozens of women and an attorney confronted him publicly on a television show.

U.S. media outlet NBC said Habib is facing a charge of burglary with assault in Miami-Dade County. He was being held on Friday without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Arabia
U.N. Report: Thousands of Yemen-Bound Arms Came from One Port in Iran
[An Nahar] The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
found thousands of weapons recently seized in the Arabian Sea likely came from a single port in Iran, evidence Tehran is exporting arms to Yemen
Boats used to transport the weapons had left from the southeastern Iranian port of Jask, the U.N. report found.
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
and elsewhere, The Wall Street Journal reported.Yemen has been wracked by civil war since 2014, pitting Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
s
against the internationally recognized government.

The U.N. imposed an arms embargo on the Huthis in 2015.

The United States as well as ally Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
-- which leads the military coalition backing the Yemeni government -- have long accused Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
of supplying the Huthis with weapons, a charge Tehran denies.

Citing a confidential report by a U.N. Security Council panel of experts on Yemen, the Journal wrote that boats and land transport were used to smuggle weapons made in Russia, China and Iran into Yemen.

The arms included rocket launchers, machine guns and sniper rifles, which had been seized by the U.S. Navy in recent months.

Boats used to transport the weapons had left from the southeastern Iranian port of Jask, the U.N. report found, based on interviews with the boat crew and data from the onboard navigational instruments, the Journal said.
Good to have a name.
The rebel group's deputy information minister denied Iran was smuggling weapons into Yemen, according to the Journal, and Tehran said the weapons were not sold or transported to the country.

In recent months, fighting in Yemen has seen Saudi-led coalition forces carry out air strikes on the rebel-held capital Sanaa.

Riyadh has said its 2015 intervention in Yemen was aimed at preventing an Iranian ally taking power on its doorstep.

The U.N. estimates Yemen's war will have directly or indirectly killed 377,000 people by the end of the year.

More than 80 percent of the population of around 30 million require humanitarian assistance.
Garowe Online adds more, and has details of several confiscated shipments at the link:
Once an obscure port that exported fruits and vegetables to Oman, Jask is a small port town in Iran’s southeast that has grown in strategic significance in the past decade. In 2008, it started hosting a naval base, and an oil-export terminal opened there last year.U.S. officials said Jask has been used as a departure point for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for some time, but the U.N. report provides the first detailed evidence about specific arms shipments tied to the port.

The persistent ability of Yemen’s Houthis to obtain smuggled weapons has helped give the group the upper hand in a seven-year civil war, the report said, despite the intervention of Saudi Arabia and an Arab coalition that has used air power to pound rebel positions. The Houthis control Yemen’s capital, San’a, and its major port, Hodeidah, and are closing in on the oil-rich city of Marib.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hamas claims to nab Palestinian who aided alleged 2018 Mossad hit in Malaysia
[IsraelTimes] Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, says unidentified suspect admitted to involvement in slaying of Fadi al-Batsh, an engineer who allegedly helped the terror group build weapons; father demands death penalty

The Hamas terror group announced on Sunday that it had arrested a Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Paleostinian who it alleged collaborated with the Israeli Mossad spy agency in the assassination of a Hamas weapons expert in Malaysia.

Fadi Mohammed al-Batsh, a Gaza-born electrical engineer and avowed Hamas member, was shot full of holes by two motorcyclists as he walked to dawn prayers in Kuala Lumpur in 2018, in a killing widely blamed on Israel.

"We arrested a person involved in the liquidation of engineer Fadi al-Batsh in Malaysia. He admitted to participating in the liquidation, which was commissioned by the Israeli Mossad," the Hamas-run Gaza Interior Ministry said in a statement Sunday.

The suspect has yet to be publicly identified by Hamas authorities. al-Batsh’s father told Gaza media that he would demand the death penalty and ask that he be allowed to carry it out himself.

"I will request to do to him exactly what he did to my son," Mohammad al-Batsh told the Hamas-linked Shehab news agency.

After al-Batsh was killed, the scientist’s family immediately blamed the Mossad for his death. Hamas officially claimed al-Batsh as a member posthumously. The armed wing of Hamas described al-Batsh as a member of the terror group’s military wing and "a commander."

Israeli politician Avigdor Liberman, who was then serving as defense minister, denied Israeli involvement in the killing. But Liberman also said that al-Batsh was involved in designing Hamas’s missile systems.

"This man was no saint. It was not about improving the electrical grid or improving infrastructure and water... He was engaged in the production of rockets, in improving the accuracy of rockets," Liberman told Army Radio at the time.

"Even if it wasn’t us, there’s no reason to shed a tear," Liberman added.

Israel has a long history of conducting assassinations of its enemies, both in the West Bank and Gaza and abroad. In the mid-1990s, Israeli agents allegedly bungled an attempt to kill Hamas chief Khaled Mashal in Jordan, resulting in a diplomatic crisis.

The deadly attacks increased during the Second Intifada, when Israel allegedly assassinated hundreds of senior Paleostinian terror group members in an effort to halt the wave of suicide kabooms against Israelis.

In Dubai, in 2010, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, a key Hamas missile purchaser and importer, was assassinated in his hotel room in a killing widely attributed to Mossad.

The Israeli security services formally disavow most operations. But former officials have extensively discussed the policy in public interviews.

The Mossad has been also accused of targeting those who develop advanced weapons on behalf of terror groups, including Iranian nuclear scientists.

Top Iranian nuclear researcher Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was allegedly assassinated in November 2020 in a sophisticated hit led by a Mossad team.

CDC Website Reveals Police Power Will be Used at Quarantine Stations for the ‘Benefit of Society’
May, not will it seems to me. Because they’ve had this power all along, yet there haven’t been mass round-ups like in Australia.
[thegatewaypundit] The CDC stated on its website (last reviewed Sept. 2021) that to control the spread of disease within their borders, states have laws to enforce the use of isolation and quarantine. The law also includes the use of police power functions in their quarantine stations.

"In addition to serving as medical functions, isolation and quarantine also are "police power" functions, derived from the right of the state to take action affecting individuals for the benefit of society," CDC stated on their website.

More from CDC:

States have police power functions to protect the health, safety, and welfare of persons within their borders. To control the spread of disease within their borders, states have laws to enforce the use of isolation and quarantine. These laws can vary from state to state and can be specific or broad. In some states, local health authorities implement state law. In most states, breaking a quarantine order is a criminal misdemeanor.

Tribes also have police power authority to take actions that promote the health, safety, and welfare of their own tribal members. Tribal health authorities may enforce their own isolation and quarantine laws within tribal lands, if such laws exist.

WHO IS IN CHARGE:
1. The federal government
  • Acts to prevent the entry of communicable diseases into the United States. Quarantine and isolation may be used at U.S. ports of entry.

  • Is authorized to take measures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases between states.

  • May accept state and local assistance in enforcing federal quarantine.

  • May assist state and local authorities in preventing the spread of communicable diseases.

2. State, local, and tribal authorities
  • Enforce isolation and quarantine within their borders.

It is possible for federal, state, local, and tribal health authorities to have and use all at the same time separate but coexisting legal quarantine power in certain events. In the event of a conflict, federal law is supreme.

The quarantine stations are located at 20 ports of entry and land-border crossings where most international travelers arrive as stated on the website. It seems like illegal immigrants are exempted in this case.

According to its authority and scope, CDC has the legal authority to detain any person who may have an infectious disease that is specified by the Executive Order to be quarantinable.

CDC may issue a federal isolation or quarantine order if a quarantinable disease is suspected or identified. Federal isolation or quarantine order was last enforced during influenza.

The CDC stated on its website (last reviewed Sept.

As stated above, some states, local health authorities implement state law. TGP’s Alicia Powe reported that the Washington State Board of Health may soon amend state law to authorize the involuntary detainment of residents as young as 5 years old in Covid-19 "internment camps" for failing to comply with the state’s experimental vaccine mandate.

Eurasia: the Continuing War Against Islamic State
[SHAFAQ] On December 14 two Typhoon fighter aircraft of the UK’s Royal Air Force were patrolling over Syria and Iraq, when they noticed an unidentified drone flying towards allied troops on the ground at the al-Tanf coalition base, in Syria. Deeming the drone a threat, the RAF conducted its first air-to-air missile firing in almost 40 years.

The RAF were participating in Operation Shader, Britannia’s contribution to the global coalition against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS). UK defense minister, Ben Wallace, said: "This strike is an impressive demonstration of the RAF’s ability to take out hostile targets in the air which pose a threat to our forces. We continue to do everything we can alongside our coalition partners to stamp out the terrorist threat and protect our personnel and our partners."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
EDL Says Protesters behind National Blackout
[An Nahar] Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...In 2020 Hezbollah blew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate facility exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that. And it ain't never coming to trial...
's state electricity company says that its power plants have stopped working after protesters stormed a key substation and tampered with the electrical equipment.
The small country is already grappling with round-the-clock power cuts that last at least 20 hours a day due to a financial crisis that has hampered key imports, including fuel for power stations.

Demonstrators angered by the blackouts stormed an Electricite du Liban substation in the Aramoun region north of Beirut on Saturday, EDL said in a statement.

"Protesters disconnected a 150-220 kilovolt power transformer and opened circuit breakers connecting the Zahrani power plant to the Aramoun station," it said.

"This caused disturbances on the electrical grid... which led to a total blackout across Lebanese territory as of 17:27 (1527 GMT)."

The disruption will pile more pressure on private generators that are already struggling to keep up with the near-total absence of state power.

Private generator owners have hiked prices and rationed supply in recent months, with costs surging after the government gradually lifted fuel subsidies.

The average generator bill for a Lebanese family usually costs more than the monthly minimum wage of 675,000 Lebanese pounds -- now worth just $22 as the local currency hits record lows against the dollar on the black market.

The international community has long demanded a complete overhaul of Lebanon's ruinous electricity sector, which has cost the government more than $40 billion since the end of the 1975-1990 civil war.

Lebanon has reached an agreement on bringing Jordanian electricity and Egyptian gas into the country via war-torn Syria, while Tehran-backed Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
has separately started hydrocarbon deliveries from Iran.

Manhattan DA: 'I don't understand the pushback' to lighter punishment for violent criminals
[FOXNEWS] Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg appeared with civil rights hustler Al Sharpton
...Tawana Brawley's spiritual advisor...
Saturday at the National Action Network Rally in New York to talk about his plans to reduce incarceration through lowered prison sentences and fewer arrests.

"We said we were going to marry fairness and safety, and we laid out a specific plan," Bragg declared. "We put it on the website. We put it in print. And this week, after Jan. 1, we got down to work, and we are doing what we said we would do."

"We know that our first civil right is the right to walk safely to our corner store. But we also know that that safety has got to be based in our community and fairness. It cannot be driven solely by incarceration," Bragg told the audience.

The new district attorney has made lowering incarceration and shortening prison sentences a key component of his political campaign.

"We need investment in our neighborhoods, and we do need to address our significant safety concerns," Bragg added, claiming that there has been miscommunication about his position. "So that's what we set out to do. That's what we started to do this week. And I thank Rev. Sharpton for his invitation because there have been, let me just say, some misunderstandings."

Bragg has announced that he will not seek jail time for a variety of offenses, following a path of other progressive prosecutors in Los Angeles, the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
and Philadelphia, among others.

On his third day in office, Bragg sent a memo stressing "diversion and alternatives to incarceration," such as crisis intervention programs, instead of sending some criminals to jail.

Bragg acknowledged in his speech to Sharpton's audience that crime — including violent mostly peaceful crime — is skyrocketing in the city.

Bill Bratton slams new Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, blames Soros for election
[NYPOST] Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said Sunday that Manhattan’s new district attorney Alvin Bragg is "handcuffing the police" and blamed his election on George Soros
...either Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger come true...
, claiming the billionaire has "effectively destroyed the criminal justice system in America."Bratton, speaking on John Catsimatidis’ Sunday radio show, said the new DA is a "recipe for disaster."

"He’s well-intended in the sense that he’s trying to find a way to address some of the issues of the past," Bratton said. "You don’t address the issues of the past by effectively decriminalizing just about everything in New York City."

Bragg, a Democratic, kept to his campaign promise during his first week in office and told his staff to only seek prison time for those who commit the most severe crimes.

"Reserving incarceration for matters involving significant harm will make us safer," Bragg wrote in a Jan. 3 memo to staff, outlining his "key principles" that include investing in "diversion and alternatives to incarceration," reducing pre-trial jail-time, a focus on "accountability not sentence length," and limiting youth being tried as adults.

"The DA is effectively handcuffing the police," Bratton said of Bragg’s progressive vision, "basically saying they don’t have any confidence in the police force. They don’t trust them. They are effectively removing so many tools out of the toolbox ... that we know kept New York safe for the last 30 years."

Security forces fire tear gas at citizens in Sudan as thousands protest coup
[IsraelTimes] Security forces fire tear gas as thousands rally in Sudan’s capital Khartoum and a neighboring city, witnesses say, keeping up pressure on the military following a coup 11 weeks ago.

The resumption of protests since the coup has been met with a crackdown that has killed at least 60 people, according to medics.

Security forces fire tear gas as pro-democracy protesters headed towars the presidential palace, witnesses say, amid roadblocks seeking to prevent people converging there and at army headquarters. Protesters also rallied in Omdurman, Khartoum’s twin city.

Authorities have repeatedly denied using live ammunition in confronting protests and said scores of security forces have been maimed during demonstrations that have often "deviated from peacefulness."

Nigerian Soldiers Publicly Assault, Brutalise Policeman In Oyo
[SAHARAREPORTERS] A trending video has showed some officers of the Nigerian Army assaulting and brutalising a yet to be identified police traffic officer in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In the video, about four soldiers were seen hitting the traffic officer despite falling down on the motorway.

This comes amid claims by the Nigerian Army that officers of the Nigeria Police Force were brutalising some of its personnel.

In a letter dated November 23, 2021 to all formations and units, the Chief of Army Staff called on military officers to "forward all recorded incidence of police brutality against personnel of the Nigerian Army".

The letter exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters was signed by Major General J. A. Ataguba.

The letter read, "The NA is constitutionally tasked to provide aid to civil authorities when called upon. This responsibility has occasioned conducting joint activities with members of the civil and paramilitary organizations. These joint operations with other security agencies particularly the Nigeria Police create occasions for the police to equate its hierarchy with the NA and this has often led to friction, especially at the lower levels.

"This friction has occasionally led to bodily harm and in some cases death to our troops. This is in spite of the fact that the victims have been identified and established to be serving personnel.

"This department is therefore conducting an evaluation of these occurrences with a view to establishing the frequency and recommend possible remedial measures to stem the tide. Consequently, all NA corps, formations and establishments are please requested to forward all recorded incidence of police brutality against personnel of the NA.

"The report should cover the last two years. Returns to reach this NLT 8 December 21 and should be forwarded using enclosed formal."

Turkish FM: Our Forces in Libya aren't a 'Foreign Power'
“So no reason to remove those illegal aliens, even though we’ve promised repeatedly to do so.”
[LIBYAREVIEW] The Ottoman Turkish Minister of National Defence, Hulusi Akar, said that "although the region seems distant, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
has a 500-year history with Libya, a common history."He added that when Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
was about to fall towards the end of 2019, a letter was written to five countries and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
by the Government of National Accord (GNA), stating that the "only positive response to the letter written by Fayez al-Sarraj was President Erdogan."

Noting that the work on military training and cooperation in Libya continues, Akar said that even if there is no election, it is a great achievement to reach this point.

Akar underlined that this is with the support of Turkey and said, "From now on, our wish is to draw the framework and hold elections as soon as possible. For Libya to live happily as the only homeland in unity and solidarity. We say, ’Libya belongs to the Libyans,’ and we did our best for this. We will continue to do so. The Ottoman Turkish military is definitely not a foreign power in Libya. Our Libyan friends there are aware that we are there when no one is there" he said.
"i.e.: We aren't leaving"
Akar also talked about his military activities, especially the training given by the Ottoman Turkish soldiers in Libya.

Last month, the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) dismissed 56 soldiers stationed in Libya, after they filed a complaint against their commander on charges of bullying.

The TAF terminated the contracts of the specialist sergeants after an investigation was launched into the complaints submitted to the Presidency Communication Centre (CIMER), the Deutsche Welle (DW) reported.

The soldiers accused their Commander of physical and psychological bullying, being forced to collect the trash of Libyan soldiers, train through illness, and chronic verbal abuse," the DW stated.

"You don’t deserve the money you get. You are nothing. You can complain to me wherever you want, I worked in the legal branch for 9 years and I can fire you in five minutes," the Commander reportedly told the soldiers, according to the DW.
