-Lurid Crime Tales-
Cashier recognizes robbery suspect -- as co-worker
Two masked robbers walked into the Dillons at Woodlawn and 13th Street North at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning, forced their way into the cashier's cage and demanded money, Wichita [Kansas] police said.

But there was a problem with their master plan, police said: the cashier recognized one of the robbers -- as an employee of the grocery store.

Sure enough, being the dutiful employee, he showed up for work later that morning...driving the same vehicle witnesses say was used in the robbery. The 17-year-old boy was arrested, along with two acquaintances whom police believe assisted the suspects after the crime. The search for the second robber is continuing.

Man Who Put Dead Mouse in Burrito at Taco Bell Given Prison Time
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — A man who stuffed a dead mouse into his Taco Bell burrito in a botched extortion attempt was sentenced Friday to 16 to 30 months in prison.
Hope he doesn't find anything unpleasant in his prison food.
Ryan Daniel Goff, 20, pleaded guilty last month to a felony count of attempted false pretenses between $1,000 and $20,000. Sheriff's investigators said Goff complained to a restaurant employee in January that his burrito tasted "funny."
"Yeah! It tastes like mouse!"
"Really? And what does mouse taste like?"
"Ummm... Kinda like chicken..."
"It was probably the chicken, then."
Goff reported finding the mouse to the local health department and Taco Bell's regional manager. According to court records, he allegedly told the manager: "It won't be a good day if the media finds out about this."
Brilliant. Simply brilliant. The man obviously has a gift for the language.
But investigators said his girlfriend told them he purchased frozen mice from a pet store and put one of them in his burrito.

#4  "a felony count of attempted false pretenses"
Wow, can we make that a felony in Washington, DC?

#5  Ever since the Wendy's "chili finger" incident, these sort of extorsion attempts increasingly need to be met with felony charges and mandatory hard time. Anna Ayala had the nerve to say, "It's not like I murdered someone."

Well, guess again. With a quarterly downturn of over $1,500,000 it is most likely that more than a few people were laid off. People who lose their jobs can end up on the street and freeze to death come winter. Quite possibly this @sshole did, in fact, murder someone.

Mr. Mouse-in-the-Burrito needs a long prison term.

#6  Quite possibly this @sshole did, in fact, murder someone.

Not in this case. The police were on it before it appeared in the local paper since Mr. Criminal Genius had called up the restaurant manager trying a little extortion. Mouse Boy left a bit of a trail: Pet Smart where he bought frozen mice, the county health department where he asked about food contamination, the extorting phone call and finally his girlfriend who ratted (heh) him out when the cops came calling. A sorry example, indeed, for aspiring criminal masterminds.

Cops: Couple ordered hit on grandkids
TAVARES, Florida -- A couple tried to hire a hit man to kill their three grandchildren and daughter-in-law to stop them from testifying against their son in his rape trial, authorities said. The couple, ages 60 and 59, were charged with four counts each of criminal conspiracy to commit murder. They were being held without bond.

Police said the pair initially offered $100 to an undercover sheriff's deputy to kill their son's wife, their 10-year-old granddaughter, two step-grandchildren, ages 14 and 16, and the family dog. More money was promised after the killings, said Lake County sheriff's Sgt. Christie Mysinger.

The couple's 31-year-old son has been jailed since November on 22 charges of sexual battery on a child, lewd and lascivious molestation and showing obscene material to a minor, court records show. Detectives say his daughter and stepdaughter are the victims. The Associated Press has withheld the names of the grandparents and the family members to protect the children's identities.

#4  $20 per hit? Freakin' cheapskates. That would barely cover the ammo, the gas and the beer afterwards.

Good thing they were talking to a sheriff's deputy. The real thing might have capped them right there for such an insulting offer.

Hamster survives giant shredder

A hamster has survived almost unscathed after spending several minutes passing through an industrial shredder. The rodent is thought to have got into a skip of rubbish that was taken to Recyclo recycling plant in Flintshire. It survived a giant shredder used to destroy waste such as washing machines and was found in a sorting area with no injuries other than a sore foot.

The hamster, named Mike, has been adopted by Liam Bull, 10, whose father Craig works at Recyclo. Liam said: "I can't believe he's still alive after what happened, but he's doing fine now."

The hamster's ordeal, which lasted around four minutes, began when it arrived at the plant in Sandycroft, probably aboard one of the many skips of waste which arrive there daily. As well as surviving the giant shredder, Mike passed through a rotating drum and vibrating grids before he was discovered by staff.

The plant's general manager, Tony Williams, said: "We deal with 300 to 400 tonnes of dry waste a day from all over Cheshire, Flintshire and Wrexham.

"Some of the material is shredded and then goes through a series of conveyor belts and grids that enable smaller pieces of waste to fall through.

"It seems that the hamster was small enough to pass through the blades of the shredder, but big enough to pass along the trammel without falling through an aperture.

"We don't get very much animal activity here, but we're delighted Mike survived and is now being cared for."

10 Month-Old Baby Reads 2000 Characters
The Epoch Times
The Chinese writing system is among the most complicated in the world. However, there is an infant in China who is learning it with ease. According to Beijing Science and Technology News, at the tender age of ten months, child genius Zhuangzhuang is able to recognize 2000 Chinese characters and practice simple arithmetic before he can even tie his shoes.

Zhuangzhuang began recognizing words when he was four months old, and at six months, he could read 1000 characters. Within another four months, Zhuangzhuang doubled his previous knowledge. For an average one-year-old child, it is impossible to distinguish the patterns of the characters, yet Zhuangzhang is doing much more. Zhuangzhuang's story is a clearly a unique one, and is no doubt baffling researchers.

Australia celebrates baby boom
Australia's government has claimed the credit for a baby boom, after a government campaign encouraged people to have more children. The country had 261,400 births in 2005, the highest number since 1992, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said.

Treasurer Peter Costello urged Australians to have more children two years ago, concerned about the country's ageing population. He introduced tax breaks for non-working parents and other payments. As part of the drive, he called for parents to "have one for mum, one for dad, and one for the country".

Mr Costello conceded on Friday that the birth rate, up 2.4% on the previous year, also reflected the good economic conditions Australia is enjoying. "The number of births also reflects a growing level of confidence in Australia's future, the fact that families have been experiencing a high level of economic security under the coalition government," he said.

Many developed countries have experienced a dipping birth rate in recent years. On Thursday, Japan announced its national fertility rate, which measures the number of children an average woman is expected to give birth to over her lifetime, dropped to a record low of 1.25 in 2005.

Go to Lakemba see the Muslim women with 7 kids hanging off them us taxpayers giving them baby bonuses for each one as they outbreed us.

Go to an Aboriginal community - one grandmother at 60 had 99 grandchildren. Her sister 98. She had 9 siblings.

Never worked a day in her life. Nor had any of her kids and grandkids. They don't speak English properly either, only broken as a 3rd language. My taxes pay their cradle to grave welfare.

Author of book on jihad to speak in Indianapolis
An author whose controversial book on jihad asserts that the concept of holy war is not a modern anomaly will speak Sunday night in Indianapolis.

Dr. Andrew Bostom, a New York epidemiologist who took up the subject of jihad after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bureau of Jewish Education, 6711 Hoover Road. The event is free and open to the public.
Bostom's book, "The Legacy of Jihad: Islamic Holy War and the Faith of Non-Muslims," maintains that Muslims have, over the centuries, used jihad to grow their empires and demolish conquered groups.

Local Muslims such as Muhammad Siddeeq, a member of the Nur-Allah Islamic Center, said history doesn't define the present and that most Muslims define jihad as their internal struggle to submit to the will of God. "This man may very well be a smart individual, but he is giving a very narrow focus," Siddeeq said.

Air marshal leaves plane after dropping bullets
CHICAGO - A U.S. air marshal removed himself from a Southwest Airlines flight Thursday after dropping a clip of bullets on the floor just before the plane was to take off, an airline spokeswoman said. The marshal arrived at Midway International Airport on a flight from Philadelphia and was boarding a flight to Kansas City when the clip fell to the floor, scattering bullets, Southwest spokeswoman Whitney Eichinger told the Chicago Tribune for a story on its Web site.

"Since he was no longer traveling incognito, he decided not to continue on the flight," Eichinger said, adding that no extra screening of passengers was necessary because officials determined the bullets belonged to the air marshal. "He picked the bullets up immediately."
