--Tech & Moderator Notes
A Mod: "The Rantburg cupboard, it has no bread" said Mayor Fred
as he grabbed the two middle knobs and swung open the doors.

It need not be so.

So Rantburgers, we need to fill that cupboard with lots of bread or how else can we continue to give Obama a strategy for this War on Terror? Plus, all the other info we gain from attending Rantburg U.

Go online and check your bank balance, or check out which credit card is yet to be maxed out, and Mayor Fred will continue to govern this place we call Rantburg in his superb manner.

Scroll down and keep looking.... you got the PayPal, the Amazon and the credit card. For credit card, click on the Donate button.... below the PayPal stuff are the icons of the credit cards and the word Continue, click it and you are a Go for your buying a loaf of bread.

Need to snail mail a check to Fred? Or, have a question? Make a comment and a mod will help you.

Fill that cupboard people, Fred can't do this by himself.

#6  "Fred can't do this by himself."

No, he can't, and I don't know what we'd do for GOOD information without Rantburg.

Sherry's donation advice is excellent, but I have an additional suggestion for those of us who buy from Amazon.

NEVER buy anything from Amazon before FIRST going to Rantburg and clicking on Fred's Amazon button (it's over there in the right-hand column below PayPal "donate" button, at least on my browser).

It may take a little practice until the muscle memory is formed, but it will form quickly and then become a habit. In fact, I did that this morning - it's reflexive. I doubt he makes much this way, but at least it's something more than he gets from donations alone.

And thanks for the reminder, Sherry - I'll put a check in the mail tomorrow.

#19  PP offers an alternative way of sending funds. Rather than putting your credit card (or bank account) info out there, you can create an account with cards you can procure at variouslocal outlets . I've been doing this for purchases from Europe. Keep a small float, then add funds just before I make an order (or a donation as in this case). That way if its compromised very little is subject to loss and nothing else is impacted like cc or bank info.

District Police Chief Killed in Kandahar Suicide Attack
[Tolo News] A suicide kaboom at the police headquarter of Arghistan district of southern Kandahar province claimed the lives of Abdul Manaf, the district police chief, and two of his bodyguards on Sunday night, front man for Kandahar governor, Samim Ekhpelwak, said on Monday.

"Investigations are underway to find out how the jacket wallah entered the police headquarter."

Reports indicate that six other coppers were maimed in the attack. The injured coppers have been sent to a nearby hospital, he added.

Taliban front man Qari Yousuf Ahmadi has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

Manaf had served as the Afghistan police chief for the three years.

With high rates of bad boy activity, Arghistan is considered among the most insecure districts in the province.

Assassination attempt on Benghazi militia leader
[Libya Herald] The commander of the Benghazi-based Omar Mukhatr Brigade, Ziyad Belaam,
I remember him and his donkey...
was seriously maimed in an liquidation bid last night outside his home in the city's Salmani district. He is said have been hit twice in the shoulder and was taken to the Benghazi Medical Centre.

It is not known who was responsible. The brigade has been allied with Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
, the 17 February Brigade and Libya Shield
...a conglomerate of pro-Islamist militias deployed across Libya. It reports to the Libyan defense ministry and is organized like a real army unit. Its commander used to head a Benghazi brigade called Free Libya Martyrs...
No 1 against Operation Dignity and the Saiqa Brigade, and there have been reports that relatives of those who have been assassinated by Islamists in the city have now started taking Dire Revenge™.

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
it is also alleged that there has been a falling out between Ansar and the Omar Mukhtar Brigade over weapons.

Tunisia nabs terror cell
[MAGHAREBIA] Tunisia dismantled a terror cell planning to deliver weapons, logistical equipment and ammunition to holy warriors holed up in Jebel Chaambi and Jebel Salloum, adjacent to the Algerian border.

Twelve turbans were captured in separate operations, Interior Ministry front man Mohammed Ali Aroui announced last Friday (September 5th).

Security forces seized grenades, RPGs, technical manuals, ammunition, 18,000 dinars, generators, tents, military boots and a car to be used for moving the material to the mountains, Aroui said.

The group's leader, Algerian terrorist Khaled Chaieb (aka Lokman Abu Sakhr), is still on the lam.

The turbans were "receiving the support of people residing in neighbouring villages in exchange for important sums of money", Monia Mnou, the spokeswoman of the intelligence department at the interior ministry, told Magharebia.

"How else can we explain the ease of their movement?" Mnou asked. "Yet we managed to capture a significant number of them and are watching them," she said, noting that the intelligence services were growing stronger.

Last week, Constituent Assembly member Mohammed Ali Nasri survived an liquidation attempt at his home in Kasserine, not far from Jebel Chaambi.

The interior ministry stressed that the terrorist group wanted to block the electoral process. The parliamentary poll is scheduled for October 26th.

Ridha Sfar, the minister delegate in charge of security at the interior ministry, said on September 3 after meeting with Constituent Assembly head Mustafa Ben Jaafar that it was "not possible in practical terms to protect the city of Kasserine by lining up troops".

"The district of Hay Zohour is considered a sensitive area, especially since the governorate of Kasserine is surrounded by a series of mountains that makes it close to terrorist threats, but we must get used to dealing with such threats through concerted efforts," he continued.

Sfar added, "Threats are currently centred around the north-west along the Algerian border, and there is also a regional scheme to disrupt the electoral process in Tunisia. The situation of crisis in Libya also affects us negatively."

Alayia Alani, a specialist in terrorist groups, told Magharebia that staying away from political pressures was one of the reasons for recent security successes. He called on politicians to keep security forces neutral.

Terror attack thwarted at Karachi Naval Dockyard
[DAWN] An attempted terrorist attack on Saturday by forces of Evil on the Pakistain Naval Dockyard was thwarted, in which one sailor and two attackers were killed, while four were captured alive.

The forces of Evil attempted to break into the dockyard, on Defence Day, after which on-duty security guards responded by firing. One Pak Bahria sailor was killed in the attack along with seven others injured.

The revelations were made by known by Pakistain Navy officials on late Monday night.

Naval Commander Kamran Asif told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the forces of Evil were armed with rocket launchers, assault rifles and hand grenades.

The injured did not have life threatening wounds and were treated at a hospital.

After interrogating the forces of Evil that were taken into custody, a search operation was conducted in different parts of the country in which individuals that were involved in planning the attempted attack, were taken into custody.

Authorities did not say what group the forces of Evil belonged to and no one immediately grabbed credit.

During the search operations large caches of ammunition and weapons were seized.

The naval chief congratulated the security staff who were involved in the successful operation and commended their valor.

He also visited the injured Pak Bahria personnel and paid tribute to their courage.

Formal investigation of the incident has begun, while other law enforcement agencies have also started investigations.

Airstrikes in North Waziristan kill 10 suspected militants
[DAWN] Ten suspected murderous Moslems were killed when army aviation gunship helicopters carried out a precision strike on a compound considered a safe haven for faceless myrmidons in the North Wazoo tribal region.

"In a strike on a terrorist hideout, gunship helicopters destroyed five vehicles and one explosive dump," a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The statement added that security forces were successfully moving ahead in various parts of North Waziristan. These claims, however, could not be independently verified as journalists have limited access to the restive tribal agency.

Earlier on August 30, at least 32 suspected bad boyz were potted and three turban hideouts were destroyed by army aviation's gunship helicopters in a remote area of Bangidar in North Waziristan.

Military operation Zarb-e-Azb

's international airport and failure of peace talks between the government and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) negotiators.

The Taliban and their ethnic Uzbek allies both grabbed credit for the attack on Karachi airport, which was seen as a strategic turning point in how Pakistain tackles the insurgency.

Nearly a million people have fled the offensive in North Waziristan, which is aimed at wiping out longstanding turban strongholds in the area, which borders Afghanistan.

North Waziristan has been isolated by deploying troops along its border with neighboring agencies and Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (Fata) regions to block any move of faceless myrmidons in and out of the Agency

's resource-rich Dera Bugti district on Monday, an official said.

A security official, who requested anonymity, told Dawn that forces of Evil had planted kabooms close to the gas pipeline in Pir Koh area of Dera Bugti district.

"The explosives went off with a big bang, blowing up the gas pipeline," he said.

The blast caused suspension of gas supply from Pir Koh to the purification plant.

Frontier Corps and Levies personnel immediately arrived at the scene. The authorities faced difficulties in extinguishing roaring flames of fire.

The blast rocked the entire area and caused panic among people.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
the security official suspected Baloch separatists to be behind the attack.

Dera Bugti is the hometown of late Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti who was killed in an operation in Kohlu area of Balochistan on August 26, 2006.

Sabotage of gas pipelines is a characteristic tactic of tribal forces of Evil and is frequently witnessed in Balochistan. However,

Suicide jacket, explosives seized in Dera raid
[DAWN] DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Police foiled a terror plot by seizing a suicide jacket and bomb-making material during a raid at a house here on Sunday.

According to police, the raid was conducted on a tip-off that member of a terrorist group named Numan Adil Gandapur had set up a factory for making explosives in the house at the Zafarabad colony of Dera city, and also possessed illegal weapons.

SHO Dera town cop shoppe Mohammad Adnan and his team along with the bomb disposal squad personnel raided the house but the suspected terrorist was not present there. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the police recovered ball bearings weighing 11kg, explosives, safety fuses and a suicide jacket from the house.

The police started the paperwork but haven't done much else against Numan Adil and started search for him.

Meanwhile,

Mr Pervez, son of the victim, Aurangzeb, lodged first information report with the city cop shoppe, nominating Barkatullah and Inamullah for murdering his father while he was going to a local court for hearing a case. The incident occurred in the busy Kashmire Chowk of Tank bazaar.

The police said that the accused escaped after the killing.

Two Civilians Killed in Pakistani Shelling in Kunar
[Tolo News] At least two Afghan non-combatants were killed and six others were maimed by a Pak military missile attack in eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
, local officials said on Monday.

According to the Kunar Police Chief Abdul Habib Sayedkhili, the Pak military have fired 85 missiles into Dangam, Marawara and Shegal districts of the province in the past 24 hours.

"The victims included women and kiddies from the same family," he added. "Their house was hit by a missile in Dangam district."

The missile attacks have resulted in the displacement of many families in the districts, adding to the existing insecurities and economic difficulties in the province.

Many families struggle to make ends meet as they have lost their sole breadwinners because of the shelling.

The Pak military has fired more than 5,000 missiles on Afghan soil in the past year alone. Local officials report that more than 2,000 families have been displaced in result of the constant blind attacks.

how to deal with hostage takers: soviet lessons
h/t Jerry Pournelle
The recent videotaped beheadings of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff by the bloodthirsty savages of ISIS bring to mind a story which took place in Lebanon almost 30 years ago. On September 30, 1985, a group of gunmen seized four Soviet diplomats and embassy workers (Arkady Katkov, Valery Myrikov, Oleg Spirin, and Nikolai Svirsky) in Beirut. During the kidnapping right outside the embassy, Katkov was wounded in the leg.

The Russians understand how to work that part of the world. I'm betting that our CIA operatives on the ground know as well, but they're not allowed to do their jobs.

#6  Some folks can make more credible threats than others. If Reagan or W made such threats they would be believed, not because those two are especially viscious but because the media painted them as unhinged.

Obama and Clinton and Carter on the other hand would just be laughed off or perhaps bribed to go away.

ISIL female terrorists form sharia police force: report
[ABNA.IR] Up to 60 women are believed to have joined the Al-Khansaa brigade, an all-women's branch of ISIL, which is believed to be based in the Syrian city of Raqqa.

The claims were made following research conducted by the US based think tank Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium (TRAC). TRAC says the group was set up to expose people suspected of spying on ISIL by disguising themselves in women's clothing.

According to reports from the Daily Telegraph, most of the women in the Al-Khansaa brigade are between 18-24, with some joining the main military ranks of the ISIL terrorists.

Among the women gunnies may be the privately-educated Aqsa Mahmood, 20, from Glasgow, Scotland, who traveled to Syria in November 2013.

Last week, Mahmood's parents broadcast an appeal for their daughter to return home on the US news network CNN.

"Her last message was that 'I will see you on the day of judgment... I will take you to heaven, I will hold your hand.' That's what she said,'" her father, Muzaffar Mahmood, said.

"Our daughter is brainwashed and deluded and helping those engaged in genocide," her parents added.

The brigade's women are reportedly paid around 100 pounds (US$161) a month, according to TRAC.

While little is known about the operations of the brigade, the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR), based at Kings College London, says that it is likely the brigade moves in similar circles to male ISIL terrorists.

Other women suspected to be part of the Al-Khansaa include Salma and Zahra Halane, 16-year-old twins from Manchester, and 22-year-old mother Khadijah Dare, who says via her social media accounts that she's participated in frontline combat.

According to the ICSR, there are at least 30 European women in Iraq and Syria, although other analysts believe this number is growing significantly. In La Belle France, a hotline for reporting signs of potential radicalization has seen 45 percent of its inquiries have involved women.

While it is unknown how many Britons have gone to fight with ISIL, the government estimates that between 500-1,000 British citizens are likely to be in Iraq or Syria.

Last week, former MI6 global counter-terrorism director Richard Barrett said that the UK should encourage British citizens to "come home," following reports that dozens of British gunnies were becoming disillusioned with ISIL.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
has outlined new powers to that would revoke the passports of potential recruits, and strip Britons fighting with ISIL of their citizenship.

#2  What do these women get when killed other than dead? Not 72 virgins?

#3  Actually even in death are Muslim women discriminated: they only go to the lowest layer of paradise and there is no mention of sexaul partners for them.

#4  JohnQC, I think there are plenty of mohammedan male virgins, not counting goats (or kids), of course.
