Death Toll in Ghazni Attack Increases to 20
[Tolo News] Death toll increases to 20 in Ghazni after the Taliban attack on Ghazni's police headquarters, the Afghan Crisis Response Unit (CRU) and the National Security Directorate (NDS) buildings last Thursday, local officials reported on Saturday.

The attack injured 350 others, destroyed the provincial museum, library, the Directorate of Information and Culture and the Radio Television Center.

The incident took place on Thursday when two explosive laden trucks were detonated near security buildings in Ghazni city.

"The attack severely damaged our library and the national museum of historical monuments," Ghazni Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada said.

The attack also left damaging impacts on seven markets that consisted of 370 shops.

"The incident took place about five in the morning, injuring almost all residents in the area," Ghazni resident Mohammad Nasir Amani said.

The impact of the blast was heavy causing the windows of residential homes and hotels to shatter injuring those inside.

Ramatullah, owner of a local hotel, said that his building, which was occupied by 30 guests at the time of the attack, is completely destroyed.

Ghazni Police Chief Zorawar Zahid claims that the attack was planned and coordinated outside the country.

"Such attacks show the enemy's weakness; we will soon respond to them," Zahid asserted.

The attack on Ghazni's security organizations come a month after the attack on the NDS office in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..

Insurgent attacks targeting security organizations and outposts have dramatically increased in the country in the past month.

NDS Discovers 15K Kilograms of Explosives in Kabul
[Tolo News] The National Security Directorate (NDS) discovered 15,000 kilograms of Ammonium Nitrate--used for roadside kabooms--in Kabul City Saturday evening, local officials announced on Sunday, adding that two men have been enjugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in connection to the case.

The NDS confiscated the explosives in district 21 of Kabul where they were packed in cement bags.

NDS officials have claimed that a Pak company sent the explosives to Kabul with the help of Pakistain's Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI).

"The vehicle we confiscated was handed over to the Taliban in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
after being loaded by the NGS company with the help of the ISI," NDS front man Abdul Hasib Sediqi said.

Sediqi said the vehicle belonged to Pakistain's Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, stressing that the NDS has prevented tens of Death Eater attacks daily.

"The enemy is taking advantage of the current political situation in the country by attacking Afghanistan with the support of their intelligence agencies."

Somalia Government Fires Security Chief
[VOA News] Somalia has removed its top intelligence official and is on high alert following the Monday killing of al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
's leader in a U.S. Arclight airstrike.

National Security Director Abdulahi Mohammed Ali had only held the post for two months. He was appointed in July as part of a major overhaul of Somalia's security services.

Government front man Ridwan Abdiweli announced the firing after a cabinet meeting Sunday saying Ali failed to fulfill his commitments. No further explanation was given.

The decision comes as Somali officials put the country on high alert after the hard boy group al-Shabaab's confirmed the death of its leader, Ahmed Abdi Godane, in a U.S. Arclight airstrike last week.

The split in the country was further evidenced yesterday with demonstrations in Zintan in favour of the House of Representatives and a statement from elders and tribal leaders in Ajdabiya stating their support for the Tobruk-based parliament. The latter, according to the Libyan news agency LANA, demanded the HoR form a new government as soon as possible and that the Ministry of Defence and General Staff be reformed and the police force be reactivated.

Update: Sudan weapons plane caught in Kufra Thursday
[Libya Herald] It is now becoming clear that today's government demand for the departure of the Sudanese military attaché follows the discovery weapons and ammunition on board a Sudanese military transport, two days ago when it landed in Kufra to refuel.

Initially, the local military commander at Kufra, who also heads the Libyan side of the joint Sudanese-Libyan border force created last year, was quoted by the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based news agency LANA as saying the weapons were for his men.

The government is now asserting that the arms and ammunition had not been requested by any official authority. Instead it is maintaning that proof was found, presumably on the Sudanese aircraft, that it and its cargo were destined for Mitiga, now the only operating airport in Tripoli.

"Such actions implicate the Sudanese government as a party that supports a terrorist group with weapons" said the government statement this evening."These actions also represent a clear violation of international resolutions and the latest UN Security Council resolution banning the supply of arms to Libya".

The plane flew to Libya shortly after Nuri Abu Sahmain, the president of the former General National Congress, visited Sudan and held talks with its government.

It is not yet clear what has become of the Sudanese military transport plane, thought to be a four turbo-prop Antonov An-12, nor its crew, which probably numbered four.

It is equally unclear what action the government might take to ensure that the military attaché in fact leaves the Sudanese embassy in capital while Tripoli is now controlled by rival Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). Arabia
Yemen moves to clear rebel sit-in blocking airport
[CHRON] Yemeni security forces moved to break up a sit-in held by Iranian catspaws blocking the capital's airport road on Sunday, using water cannons, bulldozers and tear gas, security officials and witnesses said.

The rebels had earlier escalated their weekslong anti-government protests by moving to the road leading to the strategic airport, setting up tents near the Communications Ministry and blocking traffic into Sanaa from the south and west.

Security officials said protesters pelted the troops with rocks. One eyewitness said protesters commandeered a bulldozer, a water cannon truck and an armored vehicle from security forces.

The witness said one protester snatched a machine gun from one of the soldiers on an armored vehicle near the Interior Ministry, also on the airport road. Troops fired several warning shots in the air.

After brief festivities, security forces pulled back to the nearby Interior Ministry, while protesters rebuilt some of the fallen tents. Government and security officials said high-level talks between the rebels, known as Hawthis, and the authorities were ongoing to calm the situation. The Hawthis could not be immediately reached for comment.

Other sit-ins remain in place around Sanaa near several government ministries. Armed Hawthis have moved from their stronghold in the northern Sadaa province to the outskirts of the capital in recent days to support them.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
A year after Umarov's death, Caucasus insurgency sputters
September 7 marked the first anniversary of the death from poisoning of Doku Umarov, the Chechen field commander who abandoned the cause of an independent Chechen Republic Ichkeria in 2007 and instead proclaimed a Caucasus Emirate (IK) encompassing the entire North Caucasus.

Though Umarov's death has had little impact on the military capabilities of the Islamic insurgency, it nonetheless ushered in a new stage in the evolution of the Chechen-dominated resistance into a supranational force. Reflecting a shift over the past five to seven years of the center of military activity from Chechnya to Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Dagestan, the new IK head, Aliaskhab Kebekov (Amir Ali Abu-Mukhammad) is an Avar, not a Chechen. Kebekov is a theologian and ideologue, rather than an experienced general and military strategist.

Veteran Chechen field commander Makhran Saidov asserted in video footage released last month that "any one of the Vilayet Nokhchiicho [Chechnya] fighters could have become amir in Doku's place. Don't think that we chose a brother from Dagestan for lack of a worthy candidate here or because we are weakened.... We wanted to see at the head of the Caucasus Emirate a man who is knowledgeable and God-fearing.... It's not necessary that he should be a strategist or an experienced warrior."

Even before Umarov's death, the effectiveness of the insurgents' military activity was on the decline. The insurgency has not carried out a major operation anywhere in the region since two audacious attacks in August and October 2010. What is more, it failed to deliver on Umarov's instructions to take "any measures permitted by God" to prevent the success of the Sochi Olympic games.

This failure is not likely to have been a direct consequence of Umarov's demise, given his total lack of skill as a strategist or a tactician. In that respect, the January 2013 deaths of the brothers Khuseyn and Muslim Gakayev and their elite band of fighters constituted a far more serious loss. The limited military capability of the insurgency today is primarily the result of the killing in 2006 of Chechen field commander Shamil Basayev, the strategist behind both the Beslan school seizure and multiple attacks a few months earlier on security forces in Ingushetia.

Human rights watchdog Memorial attributes the marked decline to the exodus of insurgents from the area to fight in Syria.

Hopefully the local jihadis are exiting other battlefields as well, heading instead for the excitement of being killed in Iraq and Syria. Even if those who survive will have more skills than they arrived with.

Home Front: WoT
Boston bombers' mosque tied to ISIS
[NYPOST] When it was revealed that the Boston Marathon bombers attended a Cambridge, Mass., mosque, its leaders were quick to disavow their actions.

Elder brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev's ideology was not their own, the leaders of the Islamic Society mosque claimed. In fact, he was admonished for an Death Eater outburst he made during one sermon.

So, one crackpot in a congregation. Who can blame the mosque?

But what about eight -- including a prominent member of ISIS?

As it turns out, worshippers at the Islamic Society have included:

Abdurahman Alamoudi, the mosque's founder and first president who in 2004 was sentenced to 23 years in prison for plotting terrorism. In 2005, the Treasury Department issued a statement saying Alamoudi raised money for al Qaeda in the US.

Aafia Siddiqui
...American-educated Pak cognitive neuroscientist who was convicted of assault with intent to murder her U.S. interrogators in Afghanistan. In September 2010, she was sentenced to 86 years in jug after a three-ring trial. Siddiqui, using the alias Fahrem or Feriel Shahin, was one of six alleged al-Qaeda members who bought $19 million worth of blood diamonds in Liberia immediately prior to 9-11-01. Since her incarceration Paks have taken her to their heart and periodically erupt into demonstrations, while the government tries to find somebody to swap for her...
, an MIT scientist-turned-al Qaeda agent, who in 2010 was sentenced to 86 years in prison for planning a New York chemical attack. Known as "Lady al Qaeda," she is related to 9/11 criminal mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed. ISIS has tried to trade her release for journalist hostages.

Tarek Mehanna, who in 2012 got 17 years in prison for conspiring to use automatic weapons to murder shoppers in a suburban Boston mall.

Yusuf al-Qaradawi
...crackpot Egyptian Islamist theologian. He is best known for his program Shariah and Life on Al Jazeera, with an estimated audience of 60 million kindred souls worldwide. He is also well-known for IslamOnline, which occasionally advocates things like slavery and thumping the old lady with a rod no thicker than an inch, and has published more than 120 books, including Islam: The Future Civilization. Joe has long had a prominent role within the intellectual leadership of the Moslem Brüderbund. Some of his views have been controversial in the West, though less so among the rubes of the Mysterious East, and he was refused entry to the United Kingdom in 2008. In 2004, 2,500 Muslim academics from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and from the Palestinian territories condemned Qaradawi, and accused him of giving Islam a bad name....
, a mosque trustee and Egyptian Moslem Brüderbund leader banned from the US after issuing a fatwa that called for the killing of US soldiers.

Jamal Badawi, another former trustee who in 2007 was named an unindicted co-conspirator in a plan to funnel more than $12 million to Paleostinian jacket wallahs.

Now it can be revealed that another regular worshipper at the Islamic Society mosque was Ahmad Abousamra, who is now the top propagandist for ISIS.

Abousamra's father, a prominent doctor, even sat on the board of directors of the Moslem organization that runs the mosque. He stepped down after the FBI began questioning his son.

The FBI suspects Abousamra now operates ISIS's sophisticated media wing promoting the group's beheadings and other atrocities through slick videos posted on the Internet. The brutally effective English-language propaganda campaign has helped attract thousands of Western jihadists, including at least 300 Americans.

The FBI says Abousamra, 32, traveled to Pakistain and Yemen to train to kill Americans while enrolled at Boston colleges. He justified murdering civilians because "they paid taxes to support the government and were kufar [nonbelievers]," Boston FBI Agent Andrew Nambu testified in an affidavit.

TTP Chief Mullah Fazlullah ousts Commander Umar Khorasani
[DAWN] Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) chief Mullah Fazlullah
...son-in-law of holy man Sufi Mohammad. Known as Mullah FM, Fazlullah had the habit of grabbing his FM mike when the mood struck him and bellowing forth sermons. Sufi suckered the Pak govt into imposing Shariah on the Swat Valley and then stepped aside whilst Fazlullah and his Talibs imposed a reign of terror on the populace like they hadn't seen before, at least not for a thousand years or so. For some reason the Pak intel services were never able to locate his transmitter, much less bomb it. After ruling the place like a conquered province for a year or so, Fazlullah's Talibs began gobbling up more territory as they pushed toward Islamabad, at which point as a matter of self-preservation the Mighty Pak Army threw them out and chased them into Afghanistan...
ousted its Mohmand Agency
... Named for the Mohmand clan of the Sarban Pahstuns, a truculent, quarrelsome lot. In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. Mohmands are also scattered throughout Pakistan in urban areas including Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta. In Afghanistan they are mainly found in Nangarhar and Kunar...
chief Umar Khalid Khorasani from the organization on charges of "conspiring against the Emirates of Afghanistan Emir Mullah Muhammad Omar, and having links to shadow turban organizations".

In what appears to be a further disintegration of the Pak Taliban structure, well-placed sources within the TTP told Dawn.com that a meeting of the Taliban Shura led by Mullah Fazlullah decided to oust Wali Muhammad alias Khalid Khorasani as Mohmand Agency chief, and also cancelled his TTP membership.

The meeting observed that Khorasani had been conspiring against the Afghan Taliban led by Mullah Muhammad Omar and had formed "dubious" organizations such as Junad-e-Hafza, Ihrarul Hind and now the splinter group Jamatul Ihrar. The Shura determined that this was damaging the TTP cause.

In the last few days, Umar Khalid Khorasani and his associates in Mohmand Agency had accused the TTP leadership of deviating from the TTP ideology, leading to the formation of splinter group TTP Jamatul Ihrar.

The group had announced they would no longer recognise or obey Mullah Fazlullah as their Emir. They also claimed the support of other like minded commanders from FATA and Malakand division.

US planes carry out strikes near Haditha Dam
The United States has begun carrying out air strikes near Iraq’s Haditha Dam which was under threat from ISIS militants, a US defence official said on Sunday.

“At the request of the Iraqi government and in keeping with our mission to protect US personnel and facilities, US military planes have begun striking ISIS terrorists near the Haditha Dam,” said the official who declined to be identified.

“These strikes are being conducted to prevent the terrorists from further threatening Iraqi security forces in control of the dam.”

Iraqi forces begin huge operation against ISIL in Haditha
[ABNA.IR] City Mayor Abdul-Hakim al-Jugheifi also emphasized that local al-Jughaiefa tribal forces were participating in the operation with Iraqi government forces.

Al-Jugheifi was further cited as saying in a report by the local al-Sumarriya news network that the major military operation started Sunday morning backed by air support from Iraqi air force in order to flush out the terrorist forces from Barwana, al-Lous and al-khafajiya districts of al-Haditha.

According to al-Jugheifi, Iraqi air force pilots targeted terrorist positions in Barwana resulting in columns of smoke and fire bellowing from their destroyed fortifications.

Other news agencies also reported on Sunday that US warplanes have also engage in aerial bombing of ISIL positions around the strategic al-Haditha Dam in a bid to assist with the advance of the Iraqi armed forces.

[Ynet] Following the death of Wadi Joz youth from injuries sustained in previous protest, dozens of East Jerusalemites threw rocks, petrol bombs at passing vehicles.

Scores of Paleostinians rioted in East Jerusalem on Sunday after hearing that a youth from their neighborhood had died of wounds suffered in a clash with Israeli police last week.

Protesters in the neighborhood of Wadi Joz close to the walled Old City threw rocks, petrol bombs and flares at passing cars, and riot officers responded with rubber bullets during an afternoon of festivities that lasted for several hours. There were no reports of serious injury.

Mohammed Sinokrot, 16, succumbed to a head wound suffered during a protest a week ago but the circumstances of how he sustained the wound were in dispute.

His father, Abdel-Majid, said his son had been hit in the head by a rubber bullet but Israeli police said Sinokrot had been hit in the leg with a foam projectile and had fallen and hit his head while running away from officers.

The violent protests in the city have been raging almost nightly beyond the spotlight on the Gazoo war, leading to a crackdown by Israeli police in which hundreds of Paleostinians have been detained.
The body was taken for a post-mortem examination in Tel Aviv and the Israeli Justice Ministry's police investigations unit was examining the circumstances of the case, a police front man said.

In another incident, Paleostinians attacked a petrol station in a Jewish neighbourhood in East Jerusalem adjacent to their own quarter of the city. They damaged fuel pumps and attempted to torch the station's convenience store, police said.

Street festivities with police in riot gear, military-style raids on homes late at night and stone-throwing at Israeli vehicles have marked the most serious outbreak of violence in Jerusalem since a Paleostinian uprising a decade ago.

The violent protests in the city have been raging almost nightly beyond the spotlight on the Gazoo war, leading to a crackdown by Israeli police in which hundreds of Paleostinians have been detained.

The protests erupted in July after the murder of a Paleostinian teen in an alleged Dire Revenge™ attack by three Jews, who are standing trial, which the suspects said was motivated by the killing of three Israeli youths in the West Bank by Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,.

Damage caused by Paleostinians to a Jerusalem light railway, which links Arab and Jewish neighborhoods and was once hailed by Israeli authorities as a symbol of coexistence, had put a third of its carriages out of commission.

I recommend immediate defensive measures for the railway.

Tehran Arrests Suspected Nuclear Plant Saboteur
[IsraelTimes] Iranian authorities have tossed in the slammer
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
a Ukrainian national suspected of sabotage at the country's sole nuclear power plant, an Iranian newspaper reported on Sunday.

The report in the Hamshahri daily said the "Ukrainian expert" was affiliated with a Russian contractor that works in Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant, which went online in 2011 with Russian aid.

The report did not elaborate on the timing or nature of the alleged sabotage. Iran has long accused the United States, Israel and European countries of working to sabotage its nuclear program.

International sanctions force Iran to buy Western-made parts for its nuclear program from third parties. Hamshahri suggested such parties are involved in sabotaging parts before they arrive in Iran, without elaborating.

Hamshari also quoted Asghar Zarean, deputy head of Iran's nuclear department in charge of security, as saying that Sandia National Laboratories, a New Mexico-based subsidiary of defense contractor Lockheed Martin, has been involved in manipulating parts that Iran needs for its nuclear facilities.

In 2010, the so-called Stuxnet virus temporarily disrupted the operation of thousands of centrifuges, key components in nuclear fuel production, at Iran's Natanz uranium enrichment facility. Iran says it and other computer virus attacks are part of a concerted effort by Israel, the US and their allies to undermine its nuclear program through covert operations.

The US and its allies suspect Iran is covertly seeking the ability to develop nuclear weapons. Iran denies such allegations, insisting its nuclear program is entirely peaceful and aimed at generating electricity and producing medical isotopes.

Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers -- the US, Britannia, La Belle France, China and Russia plus Germany -- are holding talks aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement by November that would curb Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for relief from international sanctions.

Syria rebels advance near Israeli-occupied Golan Heights
Syrian rebels have made fresh advances near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights in Quneitra province, where 26 troops and 17 rebels were killed in a battle on Saturday, a monitoring group said. Fighting has raged in the province since August, when rebels and the Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Nusra Front took control of a border post.

“Rebels have since taken control of hills overlooking the border post, as well as several villages nearby, (after battles that killed) a large number of troops on both sides,” Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman said Sunday.

On Saturday, “the regime tried to take back the village of Msahra, but failed”, said Abdel Rahman, with the fighting leaving the 43 dead on both sides. Over the course of Saturday’s fighting, the rebels also seized a string of new hilltops.

The Observatory says the fighting around Quneitra has killed some 70 loyalists and dozens of rebels since the end of August. For many months, rebels have sought to take full control of southern Damascus, Daraa province on the Jordan border, and Quneitra.

Hezbollah-backed Syrian troops kill Nusra Front commander responsible for kidnapping Christian nuns
[ABNA.IR] Syrian government troops backed by Hezbollah resistance forces have ambushed a convoy belonging to the al-Qaeda-backed al-Nusra Front terrorist group, killing the commander believed responsible for kidnapping of Syrian Christian nuns in 2013.

The convoy was headed by Malek al-Tall, an al-Nusra Front commander, who was killed in the ambush in Syria's Qalamoun, a mountainous region bordering Leb, The Daily Star reported Wednesday citing a Lebanese security source.

Al-Tall was allegedly responsible for the abduction of thirteen nuns last year, when the radical terrorist group took over the historic Christian town of Maaloula, located on the edge of the rugged Qalamoun region about 60 kilometers northeast of the capital.
