#6  The photos of Lina would probably have been risque for the day. Today they are considered tame. However, there is a certain sexiness and joie de vivre communicated by these old photos. These photos are so much more sexy than the weird twerking of Miley Cyrus which was a tasteless and crass display.

Afghanistan
16 Insurgents Killed in Afghan Forces Raids
[Tolo News] Sixteen gunnies were killed and six were jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
during a series of coordinated operations over the past 24 hours carried out by the Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS), the Afghan Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Tuesday.

The operations led by Afghan forces have intensified across the country as Afghanistan moves closer to elections in less than three months.

The operations were conducted in Baghlan, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Maidan Wardak and Pashtun-infested Logar provinces.

"Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds ammunition and IEDs," the statement said.

Taliban Free 63 Diminers Kidnapped in Herat
[Tolo News] Officials in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
province announced Tuesday night that 63 employees of a demining firm who were taken hostage earlier in the day by gunnies were released after successful negotiations were made between their captors, local tribal elders and security officials.

The Taliban was said to have kidnapped the 63 employees, who were disabling mines and Explosive Remnants of War (ERWs) around Herat, early Tuesday morning. The incident took place in the Pashtun Zarghund District.

"Insurgents approached a mine clearance site this morning, while the workers were getting ready to start their work," a local official told TOLOnews on condition of anonymity.

The hostages were reportedly employees of Halo Trust, a non-governmental organization working throughout Afghanistan and other conflict zones around the world.

More than 10 gunnies were said to have arrived at the site and forced the workers into vehicles, which then drove them to some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location.

What exactly led to the deal being brokered between security officials, tribal elders and the kidnappers remains unknown. And there have been no reports of casualties.

Somali pirates fire on product tanker off Salalah
Somali pirates launched an unsuccessful attack on an unnamed product tanker 115 nm south of Salalah, according to a report by the International Maritime Bureau.

The vessel was fired upon by men in a skiff, at which point the master raised the alarm, increased the vessel's speed and altered course, mustering non-security personnel in its citadel, while onboard security personnel exchanged fire with the pirates. Following the returned fire, the pirates fled called off their attack.

The attack, which took place on 17 January, emerges as the first pirate incident of the year, after other reports of a hijacking of General cargo vessel Marzooqah turned out to be a boarding by Eritrean Border Guards.

#2  It does, provided the vessel and its security team stay out of territorial waters. Which might be one reason Eritrea boarded that merchant earlier.

Saiqa Brigade member confirmed dead in Benghazi blast
[Libya Herald] A member of the Saiqa Special Forces was killed this evening when an bomb fitted beneath his Hyundai vehicle exploded.

Spokesman for Benghazi Joint Security Room (BJSR) Ibrahim Al-Shara said the man had been identified as Muftah Al-Shukri. While there were reports circulating on social media networks that another military official had also been killed in the blast, Shara was unable to confirm whether there had been any further casualties.

The kaboom happened at around 7 pm on Khaleej Street, between the Bodema and Laithi districts of Benghazi. A fire from the kaboom could reportedly be seen for several kilometres around and took nearly an hour for firefighters to get under control.

Sebha airbase "back in pro-Qaddafi hands": Murzuk commander
[Libya Herald] The Tamenhint airbase 30 kilometres north-east of Sebha is reported to be back in pro-Qadaffy hands after Tebu forces from Murzuk who were guarding it withdrew. They unilaterally pulled out yesterday evening claiming that the government was deliberately exploiting festivities in Sebha between Tebus and Awlad Sulaiman in order to divert attention from moves to replace it with a new administration.

It has not been possible to confirm the allegations.

The airbase was first seized on Saturday by pro-Qadaffy elements but they then withdrew by evening as government forces led by the Murzuk unit approached.

"Ali Zeidan is the one who contributed the worsening situation in the south in an attempt to divert attention," the head of Murzuk Military Council, Colonel Barka Warduko, told the Libya Herald today. He said he had withdrawn all his troops from the base.

Warduko accused the Prime Minister of increasing tensions in the south -- at Sebha, the airbase and the Sarir oilfield -- in an attempt to undermine calls for his removal on the basis that with the country's security under threat Libya could not afford a change in government. He said that Zeidan was being deliberately partial, supporting one group and neglecting others. He claimed that the situation in the south, particularly the animosity between the Tebus and the Awlad Sulaiman, was getting worse despite the best efforts of various mediators to promote reconciliation.

Warduko appeared, however, not to be overly concerned that his decision to withdraw from the airbase had allowed pro-Qadaffy an opening. He said that forces from Misrata were on their way to ensure law and order in the area.

Misratan forces headed south on Saturday, following a meeting in Misrata between Defence Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni and Misrata Local Council and other Misratan officials, but they went to Jufra rather than Sebha.

Forces from Zintan are also expected to head towards Sebha to help secure the area.

Clashes have continued in the southern regional capital. It was reported this afternoon to be quetter than yesterday but that overnight festivities had resulted in three dead and nine maimed being taken to the medical centre.

Shops and business remain shut, according to the Libyan news agency LANA.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, the fiddler suddenly struck a sour note. The dancing stopped abruptly. Everyone looked at Bob...
yesterday the National Security Directorate in Sebha warned that the lack of human and financial resources from the authorities was exacerbating the crisis in the area. At a meeting yesterday, it said that it was trying its best to maintain security but that it lacked the wherewithal to ensure the safety of banks, businesses and other institutions and maintain law and order on the streets.

Fighting in Warshefana area continues; woman killed
[Libya Herald] Heavy firing around Najila, south of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's suburb of Jazour, continued today with at last one elderly woman killed when the taxi she was traveling in was hit by a missile. Fifteen other people are reported to have been injured, a number of them civilians.

The fighting started two days ago when security forces were dispatched to the area to arrest 177 people wanted by the public prosecutor to face charges of kidnapping, carjacking and other crimes. However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
although they managed to arrest some 30 individuals, they encountered far stronger resistance than expected and 11 people were killed in fighting on Sunday including Mohammed Kara, brother the former SSC commander Abdul Raouf Kara.

In today's continuing dragnet, four more suspects are reported to have been incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
. They were said to have been trying to escape from a farm near Najila. However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
despite the deployment of more army units in the area yesterday as well as tanks, there was no let-up in fighting which remained intense as local armed forces allegedly rallied to the defence of the alleged criminals.

Last night sources close to the defenders said that they expected Misrati forces to be sent to the area and were prepared to use Katyusha rockets in response. Today, it was reported that at least 20 such rockets as well as other missiles were fired.

There are, however, also claims of indiscriminate firing by the security forces. One rocket is said to have hit a residential building in Najila, another to have landed in west Tripoli's Dreibi district, where a missile also landed last night. No one is reported to have been injured in the Dreibi attacks.

The elderly women who died today, who has not been named, was in a taxi in Najila when it was hit. The driver is in intensive care in Abu Sleem hospital.

The festivities are taking place in the Warshefana area and Warshefana Shura Council said this afternoon that it had called on the government to stop the dragnet and what it called attacks on civilians. It claims that the government, in response, had said that it never ordered the operation.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the SWAT team had finally arrived...
there are fears in the west end of Janzour, at Sayad, five kilometres away, that the festivities will spread there. The main road heading west toward Zawia is already all but empty of traffic and some residents this afternoon said that they have been advised to stay elsewhere this evening.

Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis claims responsibility for firing missiles into Israel
[Egypt Independent] The Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis group on Tuesday grabbed credit for firing two Grad-type missiles towards the city of Eilat in southern Israel.

"Our fight against the enemy in Egypt will not make us forget the first enemy of the nation," was the statement the group posted on social networking sites.

The missiles landed in an empty area near the city of Eilat.

Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis is the group staging the most attacks against the Egyptian army in Sinai. In addition to claiming responsibility for the bombing in Mansoura, it also attempted to assassinate Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim last September.

Islamist party Chief' son severely injured in bomb blast
[Yemen Post] Just as news have come through that Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is "God is Great, Death to America", Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews" ...
NDC representative Ahmad Sharafeddin was bumped off by armed hard boyz while driving to the NDC (National Dialogue Conference) on Tuesday, media have confirmed that Amer Abdul-Wahab al-Ansi, son of Abdul-Wahab al-Ansi, al-Islah Secretary General has been critically maimed in a kaboom.

According to preliminary reports, Amer Abdul-Wahab al-Ansi was driving his father's car when an bomb placed under the car went kaboom!, gravely injuring him. It is not yet clear, who hard boyz ultimately aimed to assassinate, father or son.

Amer was immediately transported to hospital, where he is now undergoing emergency treatment.

The almost simultaneous attack of two key politicians is said to have deeply unnerved officials in the capital as it would establish that dissident elements are intent on derailing reconciliation efforts by the most violent means.

While political liquidations have plague Yemen for any months, the frequency of such attacks has reached new height, a dangerous trend which could very well lay waste reconciliations efforts, just as the impoverished nation thought to have turned the corner.

Security sources in Sana'a have said under cover of anonymity that an investigation has been launched into today's twin attacks. While Sherlocks will treat the matter separately, the idea that one party ordered both hits as part of a broad destabilization campaign remains an avenue officials want to explore.

It is important to note that both attacks took place on the very day President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi presided the last plenary NDC session.

Houthi representative assassinated in Yemeni capital
[Yemen Post] Officials in Sana'a confirmed this Tuesday that Ahmad Sharafeddin, a Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Its slogan is "God is Great, Death to America", Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews" ...
NDC representative and former dean at the law faculty at Sana'a University had been bumped off by armed bully boyz in the heart of the capital.

News of his death come as tensions have once more escalated in between the Houthi, Shiite group led by Abdel-Malek al-Houthi and the Salafis, Sunni ultra-orthodox in the northern province of Amran.

Although al-Islah, Yemen's main Sunni radical faction, which accounts within its ranks many Salafis, has strongly condemned Sharafeddin's liquidation, having called on the government to bring his killers to justice, Houthi leaders have pointed an accusing finger toward the political faction.

Abdulkarim al-Khiwani, a Houthi leader has already warned he would not allow al-Islah to murder his countrymen without severe repercussions.

A well-known figure of the NDC, Sharafeddin has been a strong advocated for dialogue and national cohesion.

While government officials have so far refused to draw a parallel in between Sharafeddi's death and that of Iran diplomat last week by armed krazed killers, politicians in Sana'a have theorized that the timing of the attacks suggest political motivations.

It is of course important to note that such arguments are mere conjectures.

However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
given current heightened tensions, the idea that certain factions could be attempting to utilize insecurity as to derail the National Dialogue and prevent parties from reaching a political consensus, cannot be dismissed entirely.

As often in Yemen, not all is always as it seems.

UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Jamal Benomar strongly denounced todays' liquidation, stressing that such criminal acts will not be tolerated. He called on all parties in Yemen to rally around the coalition government and act a barrier against pernitious dissident elements.

UAE court convicts 30 Muslim Brotherhood men
Thirty people accused of links to the Muslim Brotherhood, and charged with setting up a branch of the organisation in the UAE, were sentenced by the State Security Circuit at the Federal Supreme Court to jail terms ranging from three months to five years. The verdicts were issued in the presence of 24 accused. Six others were sentenced in absentia.

Earlier, the court heard statements from the accused, the defence team and witnesses and reviewed the reports of experts. The court also ordered the dissolution of the Brotherhood in the UAE, closure of all its offices, as well as confiscation of seized equipment.

It also ordered the deportation of the foreign national accused after completion of their jail terms.

According to a copy of the verdict which has been obtained by Khaleej Times, [ here follows names of a whole bunch of guys named either Abdullah or Mohammad who all got jugged ]. The foreign nationals accused in the plan are to be deported after serving out their jail terms.

The sitting judge, in his ruling said: “Inspired by the rules of the Islamic Shariah, and guided by the principles of the law, the court has given the defendants to prove their innocene and has conducted the trial with utmost transparency as per the UAE constitution and international conventions.”

“This court had issued its verdict studying the documents and results of investigations, as well listening to the statements of the defendants,” the judge said.

The Public Prosecution stressed that the accused intended to set up a branch affiliated to the Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood. “They structured the organisation and set up a general administrative centre under which there are central committees and offices, which are located all over the country.”

The Muslim Brotherhood members collected monthly subscription fee, the prosecution told the court. Their actions posed a threat to state security, the prosecution said, and added that their investigation was held in a fair manner.

Defence lawyers, meanwhile, challenged the role of the investigators and alleged the evidence gathered did not prove any wrongdoing.
"Lies! All lies!"
“The charges against the accused have been cooked up, and charges of theft are not true because there is no tangible evidence,” the defence lawyers told the court.

She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. Bomb kills at least 22 Shiite pilgrims returning on bus from Iran to Pakistan
[ABC.NET.AU] Officials in Pakistain say at least 22 Shiite pilgrims have been killed and 20 others injured in a kaboom on a bus in the south-west province of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...

The bus was returning from a pilgrimage to Iran when it was blown up 60 kilometres west of Quetta, the lovely provincial capital of Balochistan.

Officials say 51 passengers were on board at the time and nine are still unaccounted for due to the extent of the damage.

Authorities say security vehicles provided by the government were travelling with the bus.

It is not clear whether it was a suicide kaboom.

Shiites make up about 20 per cent of Pakistain's population, which is largely Sunni Moslem.

The bombing is the latest in a series of deadly attacks across Pakistain.

On Sunday in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...

Three killed in attack on polio team in Karachi
[DAWN] Gunmen killed three health workers taking part in a polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
vaccination drive in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
on Tuesday, police said, in the latest blow to efforts to stamp out the disease in Pakistain.

After the attacks, the latest in a series of deadly assaults on vaccination teams, the provincial polio workers' association said it was halting operations across Sindh province.

Men on cycle of violences opened fire on polio teams in two separate incidents in the Qayyumabad neighbourhood in the east of Pakistain's biggest city.

The attacks came just days after the World Health Organisation warned that Pakistain's northwestern city of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
was the world's "largest reservoir" of the polio virus.

Pakistain is one of only three countries in the world where polio remains endemic, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria. Efforts to eradicate it have been seriously hampered by the deadly targeting of vaccination teams in recent years.

"The attackers wearing helmets were waiting for the teams on cycle of violences," a police front man told news agency AFP.

Doctor Seemi Jamali, the head of the government Jinnah Hospital, confirmed to AFP that three bodies and two maimed people were taken to her hospital.

Khairun Nissa, the head of the provincial polio workers' association, said vaccinations would stop as a result.

"We will not carry out the campaign from now on," she told news hounds outside Jinnah Hospital. "We have lost lives of our workers today and that will happen again and again."

Militant groups see vaccination campaigns as a cover for espionage, and there are also long running rumours about polio drops causing infertility.

According to the World Health Organisation, Pakistain recorded 91 cases of polio last year compared with 58 in 2012. So far, four new polio cases have been recorded in 2014.

Jets pound suspected militant hideouts in North Waziristan
[DAWN] Pak fighter jets pounded several suspected hard boy hideouts in Mir Ali area of North Wazoo agency early Tuesday, killing up to 40 people and injuring several others, military sources and residents said.

The Arclight airstrikes took place as domestic pressure grew on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
to take tougher action against Talibs following a string of attacks across the country in the past week.

"This hadn't been planned before, and Pakistain Air Force jets were called to hit hideouts of the bully boyz involved in attacks on security forces," said one military official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

There was no official word on casualties and residents gave different numbers.

Pak military sources put the corpse count at 40, all of them suspected to be hard boys. Tribal elders said between 15 and 24 people were killed. A Taliban source put the corpse count at 27.

Military sources said fighter jets were only targeting hard boy hideouts. Residents said the bombardment started overnight without any warning.

"We were all asleep when the planes started bombing the village," said Khyal Zaman, a primitive from Esori village in Mir Ali. "We had no idea what happened in the dark and those who survived came out of their homes in desperation along with children and started walking away into the open."

According to a report by a foreign news agency, among the targets was the home of Adnan Rasheed, one of the most wanted hard boy commanders of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP).

Taliban and military sources told AFP that his house was hit but Rasheed himself was later seen alive in the marketplace of Miranshah
... headquarters of al-Qaeda in Pakistain and likely location of Ayman al-Zawahiri. The Haqqani network has established a ministate in centered on the town with courts, tax offices and lots of madrassas...
, the main town of North Waziristan.

The army was not immediately available for a comment.

Fear and panic gripped the areas struck by the overnight blitz which flattened several houses, following which gunship helicopters conducted fresh strikes in the morning causing locals to flee the volatile area for safer places, according to a DawnNews report.

The localities where the military strikes were conducted included Hamzoni village, Mohammadkhel village of Dattakhel tehsil in North Waziristan, Shera Tala area, Harmaz village, Moski village and other areas of North Waziristan.

Sources said those maimed in the attacks could not be shifted to hospitals for treatment due to a curfew imposed in the area.

North Waziristan is one of the seven regions in Pakistain's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) governed by tribal laws. An myrmidon insurgency led by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) plagues the region and the area is known to be infested with hard boys, including those from Al Qaeda and other armed myrmidon organizations.

The region, which lies along the Pak-Afghan border, also comes under attacks from US drones frequently which target hard boy hideouts in the area.

Playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed injured in Lahore firing
[DAWN] Renowned playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed was injured Tuesday when unknown motorcyclists opened fire on his vehicle in Lahore, DawnNews reported.
The old "unknown motorcyclists" trick...
According to sources, Syed was traveling in his car near Shaukat Khanum Hospital when person or persons unknown opened fire on him.
[BANG! BANG! BANGETY BANG!]
Upon hearing the gunshots, he ducked.
Usually, if you can hear the shots it's too late to duck. I suppose it can help with subsequent shots, though.
However, he was hit in the right arm and shoulder.
"Aaaiiieee! My arm! My shoulder!"
Following the attack, the gunnies fled from the scene.
"Let us depart post haste, Mahmoud!"
Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the pilot and the copilot had both hit the silk.
Jack! Cynthia exclaimed. Do you know how top drive one of these things?
Jack wiped some of the blood from his knuckles. No, he said. Do you?...

Syed called Rescue 1122 from his cell phone and reported the attack.
"Hello? Rescue 1122?"
"Nah. Y'got the wrong number. This is 1123!"

The rescue personnel arrived at the scene and shifted him to Doctor's Hospital. Syed was being imparted emergency treatment.
"Hmmm... It looks like a subdural haematoma!"
"I was shot in the arm!"

Iraq
Iraq Executes 26 Men on Terrorism Charges
[An Nahar] Iraq on Tuesday announced the execution of 26 men convicted of "terrorism", including a high-profile anti-Qaeda militia commander whose arrest in 2009 prompted fierce street battles in Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...
.

The executions come despite widespread international condemnation of Iraq's use of capital punishment, and were announced barely a week after Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki publicly rebuked the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
over the U.N. chief's call for a moratorium.

"The justice ministry carried out the executions of 26 (men) convicted of crimes related to terrorism on Sunday," a ministry statement said, adding that all of those put to death were Iraqis.

It said that the ministry would "continue to carry out sentences against those who have been condemned, after the final decision has been made", despite persistent international calls for Iraq to declare a moratorium on its use of capital punishment.

"All 26 who were executed carried out brutal terrorist crimes against the Iraqi people, and they were tried and condemned, and the verdict was approved by the presidency," Justice Minister Hassan al-Shammari said.

Iraq executed at least 169 people last year, according to an Agence La Belle France Presse tally based on statements from the justice ministry and reports from officials.

It was the highest figure since the U.S.-led invasion of 2003, and placed it third in the world for the number of executions after only China and Iran.

The U.N. chief urged Iraq to halt executions on a visit to Storied Baghdad this month, but was publicly rebuked by the prime minister who said the country does not "believe that the rights of someone who kills people must be respected."

Among those executed was Adel Mashhadani, who was locked away
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
in March 2009 and sentenced to death in November of that year for killing a young girl in a Dire Revenge™ attack.

Mashhadani headed Sahwa forces in Fadel, one of Storied Baghdad's oldest districts.

#2  Since it will be the only fixed wing strike aircraft the US has, it will have to; after the Light attack mafia and it's siblings kill off all the other platforms.
The STOL version will be a maintenance headache; the lift fan under the nose has already proven to be a huge money and manhour pit and the carrier version had to be redesigned last year when it was discovered its tailhook was too short to effectively grab a wire, and the obvious solution to lengthen it caused it to interfere with the exhaust duct......
don't even want to talk about the hugely espensive manufacturing processes required so the airplane snaps together lego style; no more match drilling on assembly, hole tolerances are on the order of 0.004" true position; any more and the panels are rejected (or at least sidelined and saved to put into play on one bastard bird). but that saves on having to have skilled metalsmiths assembling them; just find any IAM knuckledragger....

Southeast Asia
Bomb kills ranger in southern Thailand
A member of a teacher protection unit was killed and five others injured in two bomb attacks in Narathiwat province yesterday. The fatal explosion occurred mid-morning on a road in Rangae district as a team of rangers patroled the area. The bomb, hidden under a pile of bricks on the roadside, was detonated when the team walked past.

Earlier the same day, two volunteer rangers were slightly injured in a bomb explosion in the same district. Police believe the bomb attacks are the work of terrorists insurgents targeting security officers.

In Pattani province, an employee of a military-run development project was killed in a drive-by shooting in Khok Pho district yesterday. Chao Rattanasan was traveling on a motorcycle when the pillion gunman on another motorcycle fired at him. The victim, who was returning home after taking his daughter to school, was hit in the head.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria Air Strike on Aleppo Kills 10
[An Nahar] At least 10 people were killed in a regime air strike on Tuesday targeting an opposition-held neighborhood of Aleppo in northern Syria, a monitoring group said.

"An air strike hit the area of a bus station... in Jisr al-Hajj," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, whose director told Agence La Belle France Presse that "we have documented 10 deaths".

The Observatory distributed amateur video footage showing a huge fire in the area, located in the westernmost part of Aleppo city.

Warplanes also targeted the Ansari neighborhood farther east, the Observatory said.

Once Syria's commercial capital, Aleppo has been wracked by violence since a massive rebel assault in July 2012.

Then on December 15 last year, the air force unleashed a brutal air offensive that has killed hundreds of people, mostly civilians, according to the Observatory.

Aleppo-based citizen journalist Mohammed al-Khatieb told AFP via Skype: "Today's attack is part of that assault.

"There has been aerial bombing every day since December 15, except for the days when visibility was poor because of the weather."

Khatieb also said the bodies of Tuesday's dead had been "scorched".

Another video distributed by the Observatory showed a man, reportedly in Ansari district, running with a maimed child in his arms from a damaged building to a pick-up truck.

The child has a visible head wound, with blood on his face that is also covered in dust from the rubble.

Thieves of Cars Used in Haret Hreik, Hermel Explosions Arrested
[An Nahar] Security forces incarcerated
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
on Tuesday the robber of the car that went kaboom! in the Beirut neighborhood of Haret Hreik, and the person that stole the booby-trapped vehicle that targeted the eastern town of Hermel earlier this month.

"Security forces detained both robbers of the cars used in Tuesday's kaboom and in Hermel's blast," al-Jadeed television reported.

MTV confirmed the news, identifying the man who stole the car used in the Haret Hreik kaboom as Nabil Ahmed al-Moussawi.

"The judicial police's International Anti-Theft Bureau arrested al-Moussawi," it said.

Al-Jadeed later revealed that al-Moussawi confessed to stealing several Kia cars, among them the vehicle that was used in the Beirut suburb's kaboom.

Future TV added: "Al-Moussawi confessed to stealing both the cars that went kaboom! in Hermel and Haret Hreik and revealed that he had sold them to Maher Tleis, who in turn took them to Syria."

Later on Tuesday, al-Jadeed said "the relatives of the Kia cars' thief Nabil al-Moussawi have disavowed his acts and urged the state to inflict the maximum penalty on him."

A boom-mobileing targeted on Thursday the eastern town of Hermel, a Hizbullah stronghold, killing one person and wounding more than 26.

Meanwhile,
...back at the chili cook-off, Chuck reached for the green sauce...
at least four people were killed on Tuesday in a suicide kaboom that rocked Beirut's southern suburbs.

A group calling itself al-Nusra Front in Leb, believed to be a franchise of the Syrian al-Qaeda-linked group, grabbed credit for both attacks.

Car Bomb Kills 4 in Pro-Hezbollah Beirut Neighborhood
[VOA News] A boom-mobile destroyed a Shi'ite-dominated area of Leb's capital Tuesday, killing at least four people and wounding 35.

A Lebanese security official says a jacket wallah drove a stolen car packed with explosives into the blast site.

A Sunni bully boy group known as the Nusra Front in Leb grabbed credit, saying on Twitter the attack was in retaliation for Hezbollah's military support of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad.
Horror of Homs...
The blast occurred in southern Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold. A boom-mobile killed five people in the same area earlier this month.

State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf says the United States condemns the attack in the strongest terms. She says such abhorrent acts of terrorism undermine the peace and security the Lebanese people deserve.

4 Dead in Haret Hreik Suicide Bombing, 'al-Nusra Front in Lebanon' Claims Attack
[An Nahar] A suicide kaboom rocked on Tuesday Beirut's southern suburbs for the second time this month, leaving at least four people dead, the health ministry and the state-run National News Agency reported.

A group calling itself al-Nusra Front in Leb, believed to be a franchise of the Syrian al-Qaeda-linked group, grabbed credit for the attack.

The group said via Twitter that the attack was aimed at retaliating to Hizbullah's alleged massacres in Syria and the Lebanese northeastern town of Arsal.

Al-Nusra Front is the official branch of al-Qaeda in Syria, and late last year a group calling itself the al-Nusra Front in Leb emerged.

The health ministry said four people were killed and 46 were maimed when according to NNA a jacket wallah in a silver Kia Sportage went kaboom! in the Haret Hreik district.

NNA said the vehicle was loaded with mortars.

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said the Kia was stolen in Kfarhbab last year. Its owner is Khallas Youssef al-Kallas.

The Army Command announced later on Tuesday afternoon that the kaboom was caused by the detonation of three 120-millimeter and 130-millimeter shells that weighed around 15 kilograms.

"An explosives belt that did not blow up was also found on the scene, next to the human remains of the suicide bomber," the army communique added.

The military institution urged the families of missing people in the blast to head to the Al-Rasul al-Aaza hospital to do DNA testing.

TV footage showed black smoke rising from the area of the kaboom.

Firefighters rushed to the district to douse a fire that engulfed several cars and gutted the facade of a residential building in the busy al-Arid commercial street.

Ambulances, their sirens wailing, also transported the maimed to hospitals in the region.

Red Thingy Operations Director George Kettaneh said human remains were found in the area.

An eyewitness also told Hizbullah's al-Manar TV that the person inside the vehicle, who was driving recklessly, went kaboom! even before parking the car.

Military Prosecutor Judge Saqr Saqr tasked military police to investigate the blast, which the army said in a communique that it was caused by a boom-mobile.

Wadi Khaled resident Qutaiba Mohammed al-Satem was the suicide bomber who went kaboom! also in Haret Hreik in early January.

Tuesday's bombing was the fifth attack to hit the Hizbullah bastion since the group announced its intervention in Syria last year.
