#2  Claudette Colbert (/koʊlˈbɛər/ kohl-BAIR); born Émilie Claudette Chauchoin; September 13, 1903 – July 30, 1996) was an American actress. Colbert began her career in Broadway productions during the late 1920s and progressed to motion pictures with the advent of talking pictures. Initially associated with Paramount Pictures, she gradually shifted to working as a freelance actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in It Happened One Night (1934) and received two other Academy Award nominations. Her other notable films include Cleopatra (1934) and The Palm Beach Story (1942).

With her round face, big eyes, charming, aristocratic manner, and flair for light comedy and emotional drama, Colbert's versatility led to her becoming one of the best-paid stars of the 1930s and 1940s and, in 1938 and 1942, the highest-paid.[1] She starred in more than 60 movies. Among her frequent co-stars were Fred MacMurray, in seven films (1935–1949), and Fredric March, in four films (1930–1933).

By the early 1950s, Colbert had turned from the screen to television and stage work, and she earned a Tony Award nomination for The Marriage-Go-Round in 1959. Her career tapered off in the early 1960s, but in the late 1970s, it experienced a resurgence in theater, and she received a Sarah Siddons Award for her Chicago theater work in 1980. For her television work in The Two Mrs. Grenvilles (1987), she won a Golden Globe Award and received an Emmy Award nomination.

In 1999, the American Film Institute named Colbert the 12th-greatest female star of classic Hollywood cinema.

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief: August 21
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • The Taliban have launched several separate attacks against NRF positions in Panjshir, Baghlan, and Takhar. The actions appear to have been hastily planned and were largely unsuccessful. However, helicopters have been dispatched to the area, and the Taliban continue to employ the tactic of inserting fighters above NRF mountain strongholds with the intent of overwhelming the bases with enfilade gunfire. To date, there has only been one reported instance where the Taliban successfully overran an NRF base, and in that case, the base was recaptured in less than 6 hours. The Taliban’s military failures continue to mount against a vastly outnumbered Resistance, and the Taliban’s inability to execute effective large-scale maneuvers are bleeding their forces and sapping morale.

  • The conference of religious scholars and leaders in Kandahar ended with more exhortations for international recognition and a few troubling remarks that may indicate growing frustration with the lack of progress made by the IEA to date. Few challenged the current hardline approach, and the conference was largely seen as a publicity stunt meant to calm the nerves of those who worry the US may indiscriminately launch new air strikes.

CONFLICT TRACKER: All NRF vs Taliban
Baghlan: Nighttime NRF ambush in Andarab district kills 11 Talibs plus 3 maimed
Panjshir: Early a.m. Talib attack with air support in Khenj district, casualties on both sides.
Takhar: NRF night attack on provincial capitol Taleqan kills 2 Talibs plus 1 maimed.
Takhar: NRF night attack in Rustaq district kills 4 Talibs.

NEXT 24 HOURS
  • Violence will be the norm in the North for the coming week. It is likely the Taliban commanders in the North are feeling pressured to achieve at least some modicum of success. At the same time, the NRF is enjoying success with a limited objective campaign that is serving to harass the Taliban and keep them off-balance.

Armed Clashes Erupt in West Libya

Local sources told Sky News Arabia, that armed festivities recommenced Sunday between rival militias in the al-Ajilat city, western Libya.

A militia affiliated with Mohammed Bahron, nicknamed al-Far, who is wanted on terrorism charges, attacked the positions of the Ammar Belkour militia, to arrest a number of the latter’s members.

Libyan military expert Mohammed al-Sadiq said that this is "the usual reality in the western region." The area is controlled by conflicting militias for power and influence.

The conflict is due to disputes over areas of influence, as gangs in the city of al-Zawiya seek to extend their control to other places.

In June, the Chief of the Libyan Intelligence Service, Hussein al-Ayeb, appointed al-Far as a Head for the Anti-terrorism Office in the western region of Libya, sources at the agency told al-Marsad news.

Al-Far is wanted by the Libyan Attorney General on terrorism charges. He was involved in many armed festivities with other militias in the West of the country.

The source said that the agency’s documents, reports and secret work over the past years on the organizations files in the western region were "blown by the wind." He added that a number of officers who worked on the ISIS and terrorism files intend to resign after the decision of al-Ayeb.

Despite being accused of many criminal charges, al-Far had been appointed as the Head of criminal investigation in al-Zawiya.

It is noteworthy that the city of al-Zawiya, which is one of the cities in the Libyan West with the presence of armed militias, has been witnessing intermittent festivities for weeks between the various formations in the city that are fighting over areas of influence and smuggling routes.

In May 2021, al- Far had threatened to expel the Presidential Council after Mohammed al-Mnifi’s decision to dismiss Emad Trabelsi and appoint Hussein al-Aib as the new Head of the intelligence service.

Hadhramaut tribes mobilise against Islah Party militias
[HODHODYEMENNEWS] The tribes of Hadhramaut province have on Saturday pushed dozens of their armed troops towards the headquarters of the "First Military Region" loyal to Islah Party.
...the Yemeni branch of the Muslim Brotherhood...
Local sources confirmed that tribes loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) announced today, Saturday, the armed mobilisation in the face of the forces of the first military region in the city of Seiyun, warning the latter against any suspicious movements.

This comes after Ibrahim Haidan, the Minister of Interior in the Saudi-backed government, created a new crisis by appointing Marwan Mujahid al-Saba’i as chief of staff of the so-called "Special Forces" in Hadhramaut, in a move which was rejected by the STC.

The so-called "Hadhrami Habba" faction said in a statement issued on Friday, that Haidan’s decision is a "threat to security and social peace in the Hadhramaut valley districts," calling for the immediate cancellation of the decision, which the statement described as "a challenge to the sons of Hadhramaut."

The UAE is seeking to remove Islah holy warriors from the Hadhramaut districts and transfer them to Ma’rib province, after which they would hand over the recently taken districts to the Hadhramaut Elite militia it has been training at al-Rayyan Airport, which has been taken as a US military base since 2016.

...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
Activists loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) circulated a video footage shows the so-called Shabwah Defence militia and al-Amaliqa murderous Moslems from inside the al-Uqlah oil field after they took control over Ayad oil block "Sector 4", which is used to pump oil to the al-Nashima port.

The UAE-backed governor Awad al-Awlaki arrived at al-Uqlah hours after the UAE-backed militias entered the oil field.

The capture of the oil fields, which belong to the Austrian oil company OMV in al-Uqlah sector, came after Arclight airstrike

Europe
Moslem colonist round-up: madmen, criminals, Muslim Brotherhood 5th column, attacks on Xtian churches 3x/day
Just a taste of what’s been reported, mostly in France, over the past few days:
French Police Shoot Man Yelling ‘Allahu Akbar’ While Firing Shotgun Towards Them
[Breitbart] A man wielding a shotgun in the centre of the French city of Saint-Quentin was shot and injured this week after firing toward police while yelling “Allahu akbar!” Investigators have not ruled out a possible terror motive.

The armed man, said to be 40 years old, was allegedly firing his shotgun in the centre of the city of Saint-Quentin at dawn on Thursday, as witnesses called police and informed them that the man was firing his shotgun without any identifiable target.

When police arrived on the scene, the man allegedly fired his weapon in their direction while yelling “Allahu akbar” but did not hit anyone, according to the local prosecutor’s office. The officers then shot back at the man and hit him in the shoulder, newspaper Le Parisien reports.

Despite being shot in the shoulder, police were still forced to deploy an electric pulse gun to finally subdue him.

Following the man’s arrest, he was immediately taken to a local hospital in Amiens with serious life-threatening injuries. The man is not said to be known to investigators or to French intelligence but the prosecutor’s office has stated that a possible terror motive had not yet been ruled out.

Young Teen Held Knife to Educator’s Throat to Avoid Going on School Trip to Senegal
[Breitbart] A 13-year-old has been indicted by a French court for attempted murder after he allegedly pulled a knife on an educator driving him to an airport to avoid a flight to Senegal.

The teen pulled a knife on an educator who was driving him to a local airport in the city of Nîmes on August 16th as he was scheduled to engage in a three-month trip to the African country of Senegal. The trip was organised by the Aide Sociale à l’Enfance (ASE), France’s child welfare agency, as a means to broaden the horizons of the teen. The 13-year-old, however, did not wish to go to the African country and pulled the knife on the educator, placing it under his neck, Midi Libre reports. Eventually, the educator was able to diffuse the tension and pulled over to the side of the road along a motorway in Lançon-de-Provence. The local gendarmes were then alerted and soon arrived on the scene and arrested the youth.

On Thursday, a local judge indicted the 13-year-old for the attempted murder of a person entrusted with a public service mission and placed him in pre-trial detention at the request of the local prosecutor.

Attacks and threats toward educators in France have been a major issue for years. In 2020, the beheading of teacher Samuel Paty by a jihadist Chechen refugee shocked the country. Following the death of Paty, who was killed for showing pictures of the Islamic prophet Mohammed to his class during a lesson on freedom of expression, police arrested another man in Essonne who was overheard saying he wanted to “avenge” Mohammed.

“The man said to those present: ‘By Allah, the prophet, I will avenge you, these filthy teachers will pay for it,’” a police source said at the time.

Illegal Migrant Chases Tourists on Paris Metro With Box Cutter
[Breitbart] An illegal migrant from Algeria who had only been in France for seven months was sentenced to four months in prison after robbing and chasing tourists on the Paris metro armed with a box cutter.

The Algerian, 28-year-old Amine D., was arrested along with an accomplice on Friday in Paris and sentenced to four months in prison on Tuesday by the criminal court of Paris.

The incident took place at the Antwerp station on Line 2 of the Paris metro when a police officer noticed tourists and two young men in some sort of struggle. One of the young men then pulled out a box cutter and threatened the tourists before fleeing, Le Parisien reports.

The policeman then followed the pair onto the subway where the young men attempted to attack a woman after the train arrived at the Barbes station. The woman fled, and the pair then made their way onto Line 4.

At the Strasbourg-Saint-Denis metro station, the two snatched a mobile phone from a woman but three police were at the station waiting for them as they tried to make their escape. The Algerian attempted to throw away his box cutter but was arrested along with his accomplice.

The Algerian, claimed to be a minor, denied he was armed during the incident, telling the court: “Yes, I stole that phone. But I was unarmed and I was alone. I have no choice because I have been on the street since I was released from prison.”

According to Le Parisien, the Algerian was released from prison in July — evidently he was not deported — and has only been in France for a total of seven months overall. His prior conviction was also for theft while aboard public transport.

Migrants from North African countries such as Algeria have made up a disproportionate number of the arrests of minors in Paris in recent years, with French politicians Jean-François Eliaou and Antoine Savignat presenting a report last year that revealed that around 10 per cent of minor migrants were engaged in crime and that North Africans from countries like Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria made up the majority.

EU Commission Promotes Islamic Youth Org with Alleged Ties to Muslim Brotherhood
[Breitbart] The European Commission has come under criticism over its decision to promote an Islamic youth organisation with alleged ties to the radical Muslim Brotherhood organisation. French broadcaster CNews revealed on Thursday that, earlier this month, an Instagram post celebrating International Youth Day from the European Commission featuring Commission president Ursula von der Leyen had promoted the Forum of European Muslim Youth and Student Organisations (FEMYSO).

The Forum Of European Muslim Youth And Student Organisations was founded in 1996 and has gone on to open up an office in Brussels, the main seat of power of the European Union. The organisation was founded under the banner of the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE), the European arm of the Global Muslim Brotherhood political network, alleges the director of the programme on extremism at George Washington University, Lorenzo Vidino.

FEMYSO, for its part, has denied that it is connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, claiming that suggestions attesting to such a connection are merely fabrications of the “far right” meant to discredit the group.

CNews claimed that despite its alleged connections with the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been proscribed as a terrorist organisation by multiple countries, FEMYSO has received at least €210,000 (£178,000/$211,000) in public funding from the EU since 2007. The funding is ironic given that the Muslim youth organisation has openly opposed liberal reforms in Europe, such as the prohibition of full face veil burqas in public in France.

Migrant Indicted for Raping and Robbing Prostitutes in Paris No-Go Zone
[Breitbart] A 28-year-old man from Mali has been indicted for raping prostitutes in the no-go Paris suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis last month and robbing them afterwards.

The incidents are said to have taken place last month in July in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis but the Malian migrant was not taken into custody until last Friday, when he was intercepted as investigators believed he was heading to Charles-de-Gaulle airport on the Paris metro.

On Tuesday, the Malian was indicted by a local judge for “rape of people engaging in prostitution” and “robbery with violence” after being held in police custody for around 96 hours, Actu 17 reports.

The man is believed to have raped both of his victims and then robbed them while holding them at knifepoint, according to investigators of the departmental service of the judicial police of Seine-Saint-Denis (SDPJ).

After police arrested the Malian on Friday afternoon he gave officers a false identity, with a source close to the investigation telling Actu 17: “When he understood that he was being arrested, he finally gave his true identity, before being taken into custody in the premises of the SDPJ.”

Police Confront Man Wielding Samurai Sword Inside French Mosque
[Breitbart] A man, said to suffer from some form of mental illness, was arrested by French police this week after bursting into a mosque while armed with a samurai-style katana sword.

The man, who is said to be a “familiar face” around the Light of Dawn Mosque in the Northern French commune of Feignies, burst into the mosque at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday while wielding a katana sword and reportedly made “incoherent remarks” — but did not engage in violence.

Members of the mosque alerted police to the presence and behaviour of the man and officers arrived on the scene minutes later, taking the man into custody without incident, the newspaper La Voix du Nord reports.

Attacks on mosques in France are relatively rare compared to attacks on Christian churches which, according to a 2019 report, average around three per day.

In recent years, however, there have been some serious attacks on mosques, including in 2019 in Bayonne, when an 84-year-old man was arrested after trying to set fire to the door of a local mosque and then shooting two men who surprised him during the act.

Pakistani intruder arrested near LoC in J&K's Rajouri

A Pak intruder was arrested after being shot at and injured by Army troops near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
on Sunday, a police officer said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Mohammad Aslam said Army troops guarding the LoC in Sehar Makri area of Nowshera sector noticed suspicious movement of an infiltrator who was challenged but he started to run.

On this, the intruder was fired upon and was then intercepted in an injured condition. He was provided medical facilities in the local army establishment and has now (been) shifted to Army hospital Rajouri, the officer said, adding "the injured was responding (positively) to the treatment."

The SSP said the investigation of the matter and questioning of the infiltrator will be conducted later.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
official sources identified the arrested intruder as 32-year-old Tabariq Hussain, a resident of Pakistain-Indian Kashmire (PoK).

Nothing incriminating was recovered from his possession, they said, adding the reason for his attempt to sneak into this side would be known only after his questioning.

Iraq
QRF hunt an outlawed group vowing to invade a sub-district in Diyala
[SHAFAQNEWS] Iraqi security authorities launched a sweeping campaign in Diyala's Abi Saidi to track and apprehend an "outlawed group" that said it seeks to take over the sub-district.

Iraq's Ministry of Interior said that the outlawed group has undertaken to invade the sub-district -located 30 kilometers to the northeast of Diyala's capital city, Baqubah, in al-Miqdadiyah district- in a video it posted on a social media platform.

"The Quick Reaction Force's (QRF) second brigade immediately carried out a security operation in the small Abi Saida territory where the group reportedly sheltered," the Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

"The forces advanced five kilometers into the orchards and found light and mid-range weapons, in addition to highly-kabooms," the statement added.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian opposition leader was arrested Damascus by government forces, another killed in Daraa.

Members of Syrian government forces arrested on Sunday a former leader of Syrian opposition in the Syrian capital Damascus, while another one was killed by unknown attackers in the countryside of Daraa, southwest Syria.

A local source told North Press, "The former leader of the Syrian opposition, Ghassab al-Eid, was arrested by government forces at Damascus International Airport on his return from Egypt to Syria."

Al-Eid obtained a settlement card after government forces entered Daraa Governorate in 2018, and then joined the State Security Branch of the government forces, the source added.

In July 2018, the opposition armed factions and government forces reached a ceasefire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, those opposition turbans who agreed to hand over their heavy weapons were handed a settlement card and allowed to stay in Daraa, while those opposed the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

(HTS).

The source said that the leader left the country for Egypt with the aim of going to Europe. "He tried to leave Egypt several times, but did not succeed, and then he decided to return to Syria."

Meanwhile,

another source told North Press that "Tayseer al-Nizami, a former leader of the Syrian opposition, was rubbed out by unidentified button men in the town of Tasil, west of Daraa."

"He obtained the settlement card in 2018 and did not join the ranks of any military formation affiliated with the government forces," the source added.

The source noted that "one of al-Nizami’s sons, Ra’fat al-Nizami, was assassinated by unknown button men at the end of 2020."

After the 2018 settlement, dozens of opposition leaders joined the ranks of the government forces, as many of them wanted to "protect themselves from being arrested," concluded the source.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in line with 2018 agreement, the governorate has been living in a state of security chaos, with one or two daily liquidations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, civilians and former opposition members, not to mention the spread of thefts.
