Cartels are 'killing Americans with fentanyl at rates never seen before': DEA administrator's dire assessment of the Biden border drug crisis as new images show the lengths smugglers will take to sneak into the US
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • DEA administrator Anne Milgram said that cartels had become more aggressive than they'd been in years past

  • 'There are two cartels, the Sinoloa cartel and the El Jalisco cartel, killing Americans with fentanyl at catastrophic and record rates like we have never seen before,' Milgram said

  • 'Those cartels are acting with calculated, deliberate treachery to get fentanyl to the United States and to get people to buy it,' she said

  • In the past year there have been over 107,000 drug overdoses in the U.S., 70 percent of those tied to fentanyl

#1  Maybe we should make it illegal. And declare war on it. Create a committee to investigate. Money is needed immediately to to combat this scourge. If it saves one life it will be worth it. It’s for the greater good. Someone please think of the children. Women and minorities and lgbtq hardest hit. The sarcasm should be blatantly obvious.

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief: August 19, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • Sources in Kabul have provided additional reports about the explosion reported yesterday in Kandahar. It was clarified that the governor’s house was the blast's target, and the reputed bombing was carried out at the commencement of a mini Loya Jirga that had been quietly called in Kandahar. A source in the Ministry of Defense claims the conference was intended to quiet fears among senior Taliban leadership over potential American combat operations after the strike on al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri. We still have not received proof that the blast reported yesterday happened; security in Kandahar has been tight, but that could be due to the visiting leaders.

  • Following rebel Taliban Hazara Commander Mawlawi Mahdi Mujahid’s reported death yesterday, a power struggle may have erupted among his remaining loyal forces in Sar-e-Pol province. Sources in Balkhab claimed that several leaders are arguing over who will take command of the approximately 4,000 Hazara fighters who were under the late leader’s command. While an interim leader was announced, other leaders appear to have misgivings about the direction the group would take. Some argued for a rapprochement with the Taliban, while others urged an alliance with the NRF.

  • Several reports are circulating on social media of large-scale defections of Taliban fighters in Balkh, Ghazni, Badakhshan, and Panjshir provinces. No information was provided about what may have caused the defections, but several hundred are said to have left their units.

  • The death toll for yesterday’s bombing at the Sadiq Akbar mosque in Kabul rose to 21 with 33 reported wounded.

NEXT 24 HOURS
  • Taliban helicopter units were ordered to Kandahar, and a large column of Taliban fighters is marshaling in Kabul with orders to report to Kandahar immediately. These maneuvers may be related to the potential bombing that was reported there yesterday.

  • A series of powerful storms are expected to bring more flooding to 24 provinces in central and eastern Afghanistan over the next 24 hours. Heavy rains, strong winds, and flash flood warnings have been announced.

Africa Horn
Al-Shabaab claims Mogadishu hotel attack
[ShavelleMedia] al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

has released a statement claiming a complex attack at a hotel in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Friday night.

The attack began with a boom-mobileing rammed into the gates and then heavily armed button men stormed the Hayat hotel building located at the Km4 intersection in the city.

A second blast was heard minutes later as the hotel came under siege by al-Shabaab attackers who are still holed up in the building.

There are reports of casualties but the exact numbers are unclear. The security forces were deployed in the area and are fighting against the button men inside the hotel.

More to come soon.
Garowe adds:
An eyewitness told Garowe Online that at least three explosions have been heard near a hotel at the K-4 junction of Mogadishu. This was the worst attack since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud took over as the president of Somalia in June 2022.

In a memo issued to various media houses, al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
Lions of Islam claimed that its suicide infantry fighters have stormed Hayaat Hotel which is next to Hotel Sahafi. The Lions of Islam usually target places that host diplomatic missions and people sympathetic to the government.

Government Security officials on the ground did not at first confirm the reports. Gunfire was heard in the vicinity of the busy city and it was immediately not clear how many people may have succumbed to the ugly incident in the Horn of Africa nation.

Reports indicated that al-Shabaab Lions of Islam stormed Hayat Hotel at the strategic K-4 junction in Mogadishu where multiple sources confirmed. There were casualties among them two security officers who reportedly sustained minor injuries.

Two security bigshots - Mogadishu spy head Muhayadin Warbac and Mahad Korow, a police officer were maimed in the attack which is still ongoing at the hotel, according to the sources.

Security forces were still fighting to take hotels back from Lions of Islam following mismanagement of the security issues particularly from those in charge. A number of those who arrived at the scene were badly injured and a number of them were evacuating political elites from the region.

Witness video shows Hayat Hotel guests being rescued by security forces, who responded to distress calls.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Six people charged in the case of terrorists in the Kalmyk colony
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The case of six people accused of involvement in a terrorist community in a Kalmyk colony has been submitted to court, the Investigative Committee said.

As the "Caucasian Knot" has reported, in May 2021, lawyers reported that at least 40 people were already being tried in the case of organizing a terrorist community in the Kalmyk colony No. 2, the accused were united in groups, and then their cases were considered in court.

By November 2021, at least seven people had been convicted - Mikhail Zhigunov, Said Suleimanov, Alexander Travinov, Savely Ochirov, Alexander Sagdanov, Robert Emirgamzaev and Soslan Beev. Soslan Beev, a native of Kabardino-Balkaria, appealed the verdict, but the court upheld it .

According to investigators, no later than 2013, a native of Dagestan, Shakhban Gasanov, who was serving a sentence for illegal arms trafficking in IK-2, created a terrorist organization there, which subsequently included more than 100 prisoners. Gasanov himself was killed in 2015 in Khasavyurt. The case of a terrorist network in a Kalmyk colony is similar to a PR campaign by the security forces, since in the colonies the creation of any groups is possible only with the patronage of such activities by the Federal Penitentiary Service, analysts pointed out in April 2020.

The case of Rustam Shebzukhov, Alim Tkhagalegov, Omar Omarov, Marat Tulepov, Sakit Jamalov and Abdulkhan Temurkaev, charged under Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in a terrorist community), has been submitted to court, the press service of the Investigative Committee reported today.

According to investigators, from mid-2013 to December 16, 2019, more than 100 convicts, including Shebzukhov, Tkhagalegov, Omarov, Tulepov, Dzhamalov and Temurkaev, were part of the community on the territory of the colony.

"During the period of serving their sentences in PKU IK-2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Kalmykia, they were active participants in the terrorist community, obeyed the general principles and norms of behavior formed as a result of a false, fictitious idea of religious superiority over other members of civil society, studied Arabic, underwent ideological training, attended lectures on literature recognized by the courts as extremist materials," the message posted on the TFR website says.

The case was investigated by the main investigation department of the TFR for the North Caucasus Federal District in cooperation with the FSB, the FSB for Kalmykia and Karachay-Cherkessia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Penitentiary Service, the publication notes.

"Earlier, 10 persons were sentenced to long terms of punishment for participation in a terrorist community on the territory of PKU IK-2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Kalmykia, and criminal cases are currently pending in court against another 22 defendants," the agency said.

Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for five to 10 years in prison.

Recall that in December 2019, the Sledkom reported 22 suspects in the case of creating a terrorist community in colony No. 2. Five of them were detained in Dagestan, Kuban and Volgograd region. Three more in 2014-2015, after being released from prison, were killed in Dagestan during armed resistance. The rest continue to serve their sentences, including in IK No. 2 in Kalmykia.

Shahban Hasanov was killed on March 31, 2015 during a special operation in Khasavyurt. According to the National Anti-Terrorist Committee, Gasanov was the leader of the "Kizlyar" group of militants who swore allegiance to the "Islamic State"*. One of the information resources that supported the militants of the Emarat Kavkaz
....alternately Imarat Kavkaz, we’ve been calling it the Caucasus Emirate. Originally an Al Qaeda franchise, they subsequently swore allegiance to ISIS under the name Caucasus Province (Vilayat Kavkaz), though nobody bothers to remember the name change. Russia has been hunting down Caucasian Emirate jihadis for three decades, no doubt a factor in thousands of members and their families making hijra to the rebellion in Syria — where they’re known for their nastiness in a region where nastiness is the norm — some to Al Nusra, some to ISIS, while others were adopted by Turkey (that whole Turkic peoples thingy). Oddly enough, when the Tsarnaev brothers blew up the Boston Marathon, the rump home office denied responsibility as they were not making war on America (“Please don’t hurt us!”)...
terrorist organization banned by the court in Russia claimed that Gasanov was indeed a member of the armed underground.

Home Front: WoT
ISIS 'Beatle' El Shafee Elsheikh sentenced to life in prison
[NYPOST] A member of the ISIS terrorist group known as "The Beatles" was sentenced to life in prison Friday for his role in the kidnapping of more than 20 Westerners and the horrific killings of four Americans.

The Islamic fanatic, El Shafee Elsheikh, was convicted in Virginia federal court in April on charges including lethal hostage-taking and conspiracy to commit murder.

The jury concluded Elsheikh — who was born in Sudan and raised in London — conspired to kill four Americans in his role as one of ISIS Beatles.

The victims were journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and aid workers Peter Kassig and Kayla Mueller.

Foley, Sotloff and Kassig were each killed in videotaped beheadings that were publicized by the terrorist network that sought to create a caliphate in Iraq and Syria during the B.O. regime.

Mueller was held captive by ISIS and repeatedly raped by the terror network’s founder, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, according to US officials. She was later killed in Syria.

"Hatred truly overtook your humanity," Foley’s family said in a statement on Friday, according to the BBC. "But you too have lost — your freedom, your citizenship and family contact. We have all lost."

Judge T.S. Ellis blasted the terrorist before handing down the life sentence Friday in the Alexandria courtroom, the BBC reported.

The judge called his actions "horrific, barbaric, brutal and criminal," according to the report.
The Times of Israel adds:
The convictions carried a mandatory life sentence. The US agreed not to pursue death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
as part of a deal that ensured extradition of Elsheikh and his friend, Alexanda Kotey, who has already been sentenced to life.

Elsheikh did not speak during Friday’s hearing. His lawyer, Zachary Deubler, said Elsheikh will appeal his conviction. Elsheikh’s lawyers had argued that his confessions should have been ruled inadmissible because of alleged mistreatment after he was captured by Kurdish-led Syrian Defense Forces in 2018.

At Friday’s hearing, Deubler confined his arguments to a request that Elsheikh not be sent to the supermax prison facility in Florence, Colorado, where he would face solitary confinement for the rest of his life. Deubler said a designation to Florence is almost a certainty unless the judge recommends otherwise.

Judge T.S. Ellis III declined to make any recommendation to the Bureau of Prisons.
Dawn adds:
El Shafee Elsheikh, 34, was given eight concurrent life sentences after being convicted in April of hostage-taking, conspiracy to murder US citizens and supporting a terrorist organisation.

He is getting an American sentence in American prison, not English. Two Pakistani Police Killed In Blast In Former Militant Stronghold
[RFERL] Two Pak coppers have been killed by a roadside kaboom in a former bad boy stronghold in the country’s northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province, authorities said on August 19.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack near Dama Dola area of Bajaur tribal district, which borders Afghanistan.

District police chief Abdus Samad Khan said the bomb was remotely detonated. He said a search was under way to find the perpetrators.

Bajaur has long been considered a sanctuary for the Tehrik-e Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain (TTP), known as the Pak Taliban.

More than a decade ago, the military declared that the region was cleared of local and foreign faceless myrmidons following a series of military operations, but isolated bad boy attacks continued there.

The Pak Taliban hasn't grabbed credit for any attack since May, when talks started between the TTP and Pak government officials in Kabul. A cease-fire has also been in place since then.

The talks are hosted by the Afghan Taliban, whose takeover of power in Afghanistan has emboldened the Pak Taliban.

Palestinians say man killed by IDF gunfire during West Bank raid
[IsraelTimes] Israeli military says it opened fire on armed suspects; PA claims Salah Sawafta, 58, was unarmed and ’died of critical wounds’ after being shot in the head

A 58-year-old Paleostinian man was killed Friday during an arrest raid by Israeli forces in a raid in the northern West Bank, the Paleostinian health ministry said, with local officials saying he was unarmed and leaving a mosque when hit.

The IDF confirmed it had opened fire during a raid in the town of Tubas, but said it had targeted armed suspects who attacked the troops with gunfire and Molotov cocktails.

Salah Sawafta "died of critical wounds, sustained by live bullets from the occupation (Israeli military) in the head, in Tubas this morning," a Paleostinian ministry statement said.

Sawafta’s brother, Jehad, said was shot in the head as he was returning home from dawn prayers.

"There were festivities with youths in the area and Salah was shot by a sniper in the head after he bought a bag of bread from a grocery store," he said.

The mayor of Tubas, Hossam Daraghmeh, also said Sawafta had been leaving dawn prayers when he was shot.

"He left the mosque and was heading to his house wearing a prayer robe," Daraghmeh said, adding that Sawafta had been unarmed when he was hit. "This man did not have a stone or anything in his hand."

The IDF said that Israeli troops had carried out arrests of terror suspects in the West Bank in the early hours of Friday.

"IDF, Border Police and Shin Bet forces operated tonight in the Paleostinian villages of Tammun and Tubas... and arrested five suspects allegedly involved in terrorist activity and in planning an attack," the IDF said in a statement.

The Israeli military said that in Tubas a number of armed suspects confronted Israeli troops, throwing Molotov cocktails and opening fire toward them. Soldiers returned fire and "hits were identified," the IDF said.

The IDF statement did not mention Sawafta.

Separately, IDF and Shin Bet forces arrested two suspects in the village of Hizma, the IDF said.

No injuries were reported among Israeli troops.

Palestinian teen killed as rioters attack Jewish pilgrimage to Joseph’s Tomb
[IsraelTimes] Heavy festivities break out in Nablus, which has seen several bouts of violence recently, including surrounding shrine; no Israeli injuries reported, but bullet hits bus

A Paleostinian teenager was killed as heavy festivities broke out in Nablus late Wednesday and early Thursday while Jewish worshippers held a monthly pilgrimage to a shrine in the Paleostinian West Bank city under military guard.

The visit to Joseph’s Tomb came a week after the city saw rare daytime gunbattles between troops and Paleostinian fighters. It was the first trip to the shrine since late June, when Paleostinian button men opened fire on pilgrims, wounding a senior Israel Defense Forces officer and two civilians.

Wassim Khalifa, 19, was shot by a sniper during the festivities and rushed to a hospital before succumbing to his wounds, Paleostinian media outlets reported, citing the Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy rescue service.

Khalifa was from the Balata refugee camp in Nablus, according to reports.

Dozens more were maimed, including at least one person hospitalized at death's door, the al Quds news site reported. Most of the other injuries were for tear gas inhalation.

The IDF said in a statement that troops from the army and Border Police were securing a coordinated pilgrimage, and had returned fire at Paleostinian button men.

The fighting broke out as a convoy of Jewish worshippers and IDF soldiers entered the city for a monthly visit to the tomb, revered by some as the final resting place of the biblical Joseph, where they met with resistance from locals.

Clashes during the visits are commonplace; Paleostinians routinely throw rocks at the troops, and frequently attack them with Molotov cocktails and gunfire.

No injuries were reported among Israelis, though a bullet struck an armored bus used by the Israeli group.

Heavy bursts of gunfire could be heard in footage from the scene which were shared on social media.

Tensions have been high at the site since April, when some 100 Paleostinian rioters broke into the shrine and vandalized it.

Joseph’s Tomb is located inside Area A of the West Bank, which is officially under complete Paleostinian Authority control, though the Israeli military conducts activities there. The IDF bars Israeli citizens from entering Area A without prior authorization.

On Wednesday, local sources told North Press that the government forces handed over the body of Muhammad Rabi’ Sayel Awdat known as "Hamoda Tasil" to his family after he died in a prison under torture.

He was arrested on August 8 at a checkpoint of the government forces between two towns of Dael and Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa.

Two videos went viral on social media in which Awdat is shown admitting his affiliation with ISIS, and that the organization is responsible for the killing of a number of members of the Central Committee and former leaders of the Syrian opposition.

On the same day, residents of Tel Shihab, a town in the western countryside of Daraa, found Maher Muhammad Ruwaisi’s body at the town’s roundabout.

Ruwaisi, who comes from the village of Jabila in the western countryside of Daraa, accused of working with the Syrian government forces, according to residents.

Residents of Lojat area in the eastern countryside of Daraa found the body of 25-year-old Abdulkarim Ali Eid al-Hawasna buried under a pile of stones, according to local sources.

Al-Hawasna, who hails from the village of al-Kharsa in the northwestern countryside of Suwayda and resides in the town of Samma in the western countryside, has gone missing for about eight months.

On Tuesday, Daraa witnessed three crimes against three civilians, one of whom was a prominent.

Asmi is a member of the Central Committee and a leader in Daraa.

On August 16, Family of media activist muppet Ahmad Tayseer al-Khatib received the news of the death of their son inside Saydnaya Military Prison of the Syrian government forces following three years after his arrest.

Al-Khatib, who hails from the town of al-Jeezah in the eastern countryside of Daraa, lost his life due to bad care.

On the same day, the young man Muhammad Ahmad al-Shaqran was rubbed out by unknown attackers near the village of al-Oja in the western countryside of Daraa, eyewitnesses told North Press.

Al-Shaqran, who comes from Tel Shihab, was a civilian, and he had not joined any military or security formations, according to the eyewitnesses.

Turkey Cuts Off Water To Syria’s Hasakah For 27th Time
[North Press] The city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria has been deprived of drinking water since August 11 due to the halt of Alouk water station by Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), said Nawara Sabri, co-chair of the Water Directorate of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), on Thursday.

The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there.

Alouk water station, which lies in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in the northern countryside of Hasakah, is the only water resource feeding Hasakah and its countryside. The station is controlled by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
and its affiliated SNA since 2019.

In 2019, Ottoman Turkish forces and the SNA factions launched the "Peace Spring" military operation where it occupied Sere Kaniye and its countryside.

Sabri told North Press that during the past two months, the drinking water only reached Hasakah neighborhoods for 15 days per month.

Since October 2019, Turkey has halted service at the station about 27 times; the last time was in the middle of July due to a malfunction in the Derbasiyah power station that feeds the station.

The malfunction was caused by the SNA factions who fed the station with eight megawatts, while it is designed to operate at three megawatts.

Government, Opposition Exchange Shelling In Syria’s Idlib, Aleppo
[North Press] Different areas in de-escalation zone in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib, northwest Syria, witnessed on Friday ongoing mutual shelling between the Syrian opposition factions and the Syrian government forces.

Military sources of the opposition told North Press that the government forces targeted, with heavy artillery, sites of the opposition in the villages of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, the outskirts of al-Bara and Ruweiha in Zawiya Mountain south of Idlib.

The sources added that the government forces targeted from their positions in Base 46 the villages and towns of Tuqad, Kafr Ta’al, Ajel, Makalbis, Kafr Amma, and Sheikh Salman in the western countryside of Aleppo.

Military sources in National Front for Liberation told North Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations’ Room
...the latest iteration of Al Nusra/Hayat Tahrir Al Sham, which absorbed several more armed factions including former Ottoman proxies Army of Glory/Jaysh al-Izza and the National Front for Liberation...
targeted, with heavy artillery and missiles, the government positions in the town of Mizanaz west of Aleppo and the village of Milaja south of Idlib.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

In March 2020, Russia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.

Since the beginning of July, several fronts south of Idlib and west of Aleppo have been witnessing an unprecedented military escalation, which is the first of its kind since the signing of the de-escalation agreement between Russia and Turkey in March 2020.

Turkish drone kills four children in Hasaka province: Kurdish administration
[Rudaw] A suspected Ottoman Turkish drone targeted a girls’ education centre in Hasaka province, northeast Syria (Rojava) on Friday, killing four children and injuring 11 other people, the Kurdish administration said later in the day.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES) said in a statement on Friday that the region has seen a "new escalation of a systematic aggression" by Ottoman Turkish forces.

"Today, the fascist
...anybody you disagree with, damn them...
Ottoman Turkish state carried out a drone attack against a road between Tal Tamir and Hasaka, targeting a special education centre for girls which is supervised by the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
in the village of Shamuka, which is no more than two kilometres away from a base of the global coalition. The attack resulted in the death of four children and the wounding of 11 people - all of them girls," read the statement.

They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (ISIS) forces are based in northeast Syria, supporting the Kurdish forces in the fight against ISIS.

The Ottoman Turkish defence ministry said in a tweet on Friday that the People’s Protection Units (YPG) fighters tried to attack their forces in northern Syria but Ottoman Turkish forces attacked and were able to kill five members of the Kurdish force which is the backbone of the US-allied Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

It is not clear if both incidents were related.

Ankara has recently increased its attacks against Kurdish forces in Syria, and it threatens to carry out its third military base against them since 2018.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
claims that the YPG is the Syrian offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) - an gang struggling for the increased rights of Kurds in Turkey. Ankara considers both Kurdish groups terrorist organizations.

The SDF and Ottoman Turkish army have claimed the deaths of dozens of fighters from one another in recent days.

At least 14 killed in shelling on north Syria market, rescuers say
[NYPOST] Fourteen people were killed including at least five children in a rocket attack on a market in the northern Syrian city of al-Bab on Friday, according to emergency responders working in rebel-held areas.

The White Helmets rescue group earlier put the corpse count at nine.

It said that figure might rise further as rescue and search operations continued, adding that children were also among at least 30 people maimed in the attack.

The warring factions in Syria’s 11-year conflict have carved up the north into a patchwork of zones of control.

Al-Bab falls within the areas of Aleppo province held by Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels. Other parts are held by Syrian government troops backed by Russia.

The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), spearheaded by Kurdish groups who have opened a dialog with the Damascus-based government, also control parts of the north and northeast.

The head of the SDF’s media center, Farhad Shami, said the group had nothing to do with Friday’s attack.

Activists in al-Bab had been planning a protest after Moslem midday prayers on Friday to denounce comments by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
calling for reconciliation between the Syrian government and the opposition.
