[BLOGS.WSJ] Rep. John Dingell ...Octogenarian Dem representative-for-life from Michigan, first elected sometime in the Lower Paleolithic... (D., Mich.) became the longest-serving member of Congress in U.S. history Friday, and in an interview reflected on major legislative achievements and the changes in Washington over his nearly six decades in the House.
Mr. Dingell, 86 years old, has held his position for 57 years, five months and 26 days. He broke the record held by the late Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia.
Mr. Dingell has been involved in some of Congress's most celebrated achievements. "The single most important vote I cast" was for the 1964 Voting Rights Act, he said in an interview Friday.
He has since helped push through Medicare, the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, and most recently, President Barack Obama I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money... 's health-care overhaul, the Affordable Care Act. From 1981 to 1994, and then from 2006 to 2008, Mr. Dingell was chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee.
He faced a stiff primary challenge in 2002, when redistricting had thrown him into a fight with another Democrat incumbent, Rep. Lynn Rivers, a more liberal member.
His home-state auto interests increasingly put him at odds with the Democratic caucus's commitment to tougher anti-pollution standards. That gap contributed to his ouster as chairman of Energy and Commerce in 2008, when he was successfully challenged by Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D., Calif.).

[DENVER.CBSLOCAL] Several Colorado counties that strongly oppose increased regulation of the oil and gas industry say they want to form their own state.
They are planning on calling it North Colorado or Northern Colorado.
The counties are frustrated with the new agricultural and energy bills that have recently been signed into law.
"We really feel in northern and northeastern Colorado that we are ignored -- citizens' concerns are ignored, and we truly feel disenfranchised," Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway told CBS4.

Maybe not a bad idea for 57 states - Southern Illinois, Northern Colorado, Central and Northern California, Austinland, Upstate New York, and Westernvania. I'm sure those in the new states would be happy to be rid of the being imposed upon by the others from their former states.

Threats or aspirations to secede from the United States or arguments justifying secession have been a feature of the country's politics almost since its birth. Some have argued for secession as a constitutional right and others as from a natural right of revolution. In Texas v. White, the United States Supreme Court ruled unilateral secession unconstitutional, while commenting that revolution or consent of the states could lead to a successful secession.
There's probably some wiggle room within the above statements that allow secession.

Article IV, Section. 3, Clause 1 of the United States Constitutions reads: New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress. Some of the movements to partition states have or do identify themselves as "secessionist" movements.
Basically they have to get the Liberals in Denver to let them go. Which isn't happening.

We could always exile all the liberals to Vegas and build a wall around it. I think if we check back in ten years or so, a manageable population will remain so that people can visit them and see what true lefties look like. That's the difference between being a simple programmer who can throw together a program with Visual Studio and a system/software engineer who understands these little nuances. Sometimes I think there should be a real Software Engineer 'certificate' much like an Electrical Engineer.
But I Digress. The John Roberts angle can be kind of scary. Nobody really expected him to take such path - a Tax???

Why do you expect the pols to read or care to read the Constitution when even SCOTUS has no reason to follow its specific language.
