Used to be a great video of the trainer Cheetah lived with in retirement holding a birthday party for the chimp. Cheetah was smoking a cigar, and the trainer says "Look, Cheetah! Here's whiskey!" and hands the chimp a nice 3 fingers neat, which Cheetah downs directly.
Then the "animal rights" crowd got involved...

Taliban fighters beheaded two boys aged 10 and 16 as a warning to villagers not to cooperate with the Afghan government, local officials said.
The boys, named Khan and Hameedullah, had travelled to Afghan army and police checkpoints near their home in the southern province of Kandahar, scrounging for leftover food to bring to their families, the officials said.
"The boys were on their way back ... when they were stopped by Taliban insurgents who beheaded them," the chief of Zhari district, Jamal Agha, told Reuters. "Both of them were innocent children and had nothing to do with government or foreigners."

[BLOOMBERG] Clashes between the Libya Shield brigade and protesters in Benghazi on June 8 left 31 dead and at least 120 maimed, the state-run LANA news agency reported, more than doubling an earlier fatality count.
The violence erupted after demonstrators demanding that the power of militias be curbed reached the gates of the brigade, LANA said. The news agency had earlier reported that 11 people had been killed and 38 injured in the fighting in Benghazi, the city where U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed in an attack last year.
Libyan Army Chief of Staff Youssef Mangoush resigned yesterday during a closed-door session of the General National Congress, LANA reported. Mangoush's action was accepted by parliament, the agency said.
The Libya Shield abandoned its base following Saturday's violence, according to Libyan television station Al Asima. Adel Tarhuni, a front man for Libya Shield, told the station that one of his soldiers was killed and four others were maimed by protesters who were armed and hurled stones. "We had to defend ourselves," he said.

[An Nahar] Ten Shiite Zaidi rebels were killed and 38 maimed in festivities with police outside the headquarters of Yemen's national security services in Sanaa on Sunday, a security bigshot said.
The official said the violence broke out as the rebels, among a crowd demanding the release of members of their community, attacked the building with automatic weapons and grenades.
The assailants were "well-prepared and aimed to infiltrate the headquarters", he said, adding they had used neighboring buildings to launch their raid on security forces backed by special police units.

They had infiltrated a crowd of around 500 Zaidis demonstrating in front of the building to demand the release of fellow Zaidis being held by the authorities, he said.

The Zaidi rebels, also known as Huthis after their leader Abdel Malek al-Huthi, had rebelled in 2004 against the government of ex-president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh ... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it... , accusing it of marginalizing them politically and economically.

[An Nahar] An air strike believed to have been carried out by a U.S. drone killed six presumed members of al-Qaeda in north Yemen on Sunday, a tribal source said.
The air raid targeted a vehicle in the Khab al-Shath area near al-Jawf, the source said, adding that the six dead included suspected al-Qaeda member Hassan al-Saleh Huraydan and his brother.
The tribal source had earlier put the number of dead at five.

The court also sentenced Selim Uddin, placed in durance vile Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'! assistant secretary general of Jamaat Dhaka city unit, to simple imprisonment until the court ended its session for the day, which was 12:35pm yesterday.
It also fined him Tk 1,000.
He had apologised to the court for the provocative and derogatory comments he had made about the court.
The Jamaat leaders have to pay the fine within seven days from yesterday or else serve two more weeks in jail. The sentence of Rafiqul and Azad will begin from the date of their arrest or from the date of their surrender before the tribunal.
It all began on February 4, a day before the tribunal delivered the verdict against Jamaat leader Quader Mollah. Jamaat leaders Selim and Azad at a Jamaat rally in Motijheel made derogatory and provocative comments about the tribunals and ongoing trials there.
Later in the day, Rafiqul joined in and issued a blurb with similar comments about the tribunal and its cases.
On February 7, the tribunal asked the trio to explain as to why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them for their comments.
The court had issued the notice on its own following reports published in The Daily Star and Bangla daily Prothom Alo on February 5.
On February 5, the Prothom Alo quoted Selim as saying, "There is no scope for the controversial tribunal to deliver any verdict if the country is to be saved from a civil war."
The daily quoted Azad as saying at the same programme, "This tribunal cannot exist any more."
The Daily Star, in a report headlined, "Jamaat warns of civil war", quoted Rafiqul as saying, "Don't push the country into a civil war by delivering one-sided verdicts against our leaders. If anything happens to Quader Mollah, every house will be on fire."
On March 6, the court ordered the police to arrest the Jamaat leaders and produce them before the court for "deliberately avoiding" appearance before the tribunal in connection with the contempt of court ruling.
Selim was arrested but the police claimed that Rafiqul and Azad were on the run.
On June 2, Selim apologised unconditionally before the tribunal.
About Selim, the tribunal in its order yesterday said, "In the name of freedom of speech, [he] threatened the rule of law and lawful authority of the tribunal ... By such utterances, he clearly intended to attack and disparage the lawful authority of the tribunal. This is seriously contemptuous indeed."

[RFERL.ORG] Police in Moscow have detained more than 300 people at a Muslim prayer room in the Russian capital, including 170 foreigners.
Police did not say why the people had been detained during the police action on June 7.
Police said Islamist literature had been confiscated to check for extremist content.
Reuters said it is the third such raid targeting Muslim places of worship in Moscow or St. Petersburg this year.
It comes after President Vladimir Putin ordered a crackdown on radical Islamists ahead of next year's Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Putin told a meeting of security force officers earlier on June 7 that the "fight against corruption, crime and the insurgency has to be carried out harshly and consistently."
He said "the situation in the North Caucasus should be kept under particular control."

Terrorists Militants attacked NATO supply trucks in northwest Pakistan with guns and mortars on Monday, setting vehicles on fire and killing at least six people. The attack happened in Khyber district.
Up to 20 armed terrorists militants targeted at least three vehicles loaded with military equipment and bound for Afghanistan, said senior administration official Jehangir Azam. He said, “At least three NATO vehicles caught fire, four people died on the spot and two wounded in the attack expired later in hospital."
Another official, Asmatullah Wazir, said four NATO vehicles were hit and three of them caught fire in the attack in the Shagai area, 20 kilometers southeast of Landi Kotal. He said the victims were Pakistani drivers and their helpers.
An official in Peshawar confirmed the terrorists militants used rockets and automatic weapons.
[Pak Daily Times] Three soldiers were killed and four maimed in kabooms on military convoys in North Wazoo on Sunday, officials said.
"A military convoy comprising 35 vehicles was on its way to the northwestern town of Bannu from Razmak when an improvised bomb planted along the roadside went off, killing three soldiers," a local intelligence official said. The official, who requested anonymity, said two soldiers were maimed in the kaboom 70 kilometres south of Miranshah ... headquarters of al-Qaeda in Pakistain and likely location of Ayman al-Zawahiri. The Haqqani network has established a ministate in centered on the town with courts, tax offices and lots of madrassas... , the main town in the region. Another two soldiers were maimed in a second kaboom on a military convoy 20 kilometres east of Miranshah. According to official sources, bully boyz targeted the convoy with an IED and two rockets.

The deputy commander of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain, Waliur Rehman, was killed along with at least five others in a drone strike on a house in North Waziristan on May 29. Pak troops have been fighting for years against homegrown snuffies in the northwestern tribal belt, but the United States has accused them of not doing enough to crack down on Taliban and other bully boyz who cross the border to fight in Afghanistan.

Militants detonated explosives-laden cars around two busy markets in central Iraq on Monday, killing 22 people and wounding dozens, the latest in a wave of violence ravaging the country.
Attacks in Iraq have spiked to levels not seen since 2008. The surge in bloodshed, which follows months of protests by the country's Sunni Arab minority against the Shiite-led government, is raising fears that Iraq is heading for another bout of sectarian violence.
Monday's deadliest attack occurred in Diyala province when three parked car bombs exploded virtually simultaneously around a wholesale fruit and vegetable market at the height of business in the town of Jidaidat al-Shatt. The town is just outside the provincial capital of Baqouba, about 60 kilometres (35 miles) northeast of Baghdad.
The blasts killed 15 people and wounded 46. Soon after the explosions, security forces sealed the roads linking Baqouba to Baghdad in an apparent effort to prevent further attacks.
Shortly after midday, another car bomb went off near a fish market in the northern Baghdad suburb of Taji, killing seven shoppers and wounding 25, police said.
[LATIMES] A Lebanese demonstrator was rubbed out outside the Iranian embassy here Sunday when festivities erupted against the Shiite Death Eater group Hezbollah's widening involvement in the neighboring civil war in Syria.
Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, has riled sectarian tensions in the region by sending its fighters to support the army of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Lord of the Baath... . The official Lebanese new agency said Hisham Salman died shortly after being shot in front of the Iranian embassy in Beirut's Bir Hassan neighborhood.
Local media reports said Salman was a member of the Intima party, an opposition group whose leader also hails from the Shiite community. The party is strongly opposed to Hezbollah's interference in Syria, which is Iran's key ally in the region. Reports said several others were maimed in the clash.
The Lebanese news agency said the demonstration focused on Hezbollah's role in fighting alongside Syrian troops against mostly Sunni Musselmen rebels in the strategic city of Qusair. The protest turned violent when armed neighborhood men clashed with demonstrators.
A Rooters journalist who was outside the Iranian embassy reported that gunnies fired their weapons at a bus. When the vehicle stopped outside the embassy, the assailants attacked it and smashed its windows with sticks.
Photographs showed stick-wielding young men in black shirts and the yellow Hezbollah wristbands attacking a white bus and chasing a person.

[An Nahar] Tens of the supporters of the Moslem Revolutionaries movement in Egypt on Sunday staged a sit-in in front of the Lebanese embassy in Cairo to protest Hizbullah's involvement in the Syrian war.
The Egyptian daily al-Shourouq reported that the protesters rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud denouncing the party as the security forces brought reinforcements to the neighborhood where the embassy in located.
The Islamic movement had previously staged several sit-ins in front of the Iranian consulate against the "Shiite tide," demanding the expulsion of the country's charge d'affaires.
Meanwhile in Doha, demonstrators rejecting Hizbullah fighting alongside Syria Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Light of the Alawites... 's forces in the neighboring country also held a protest in front of the Lebanese embassy in Qatar's capital.
Syrian regime forces backed by elite Hizbullah fighters on Wednesday managed to recapture the strategic town of Qusayr near Leb's border from rebel hands following a fierce assault.
And on Saturday the Eastern Bweida village, the last rebel bastion in the area, was seized by Syrian forces, bringing the entire Qusayr region near the border with Leb back under regime control.
Only 10 kilometers from Leb, Qusayr is strategic for the regime and Hizbullah because of its proximity to the border and because it lies on a route linking Damascus to the the regime's bastion on the Syrian coast.

[An Nahar] Syrian rebels on Sunday opened fire on two Iraqi border posts along the southern edge of the two countries' frontier, killing one guard and wounding two others, officials said.
Iraqi border guards Colonel Nayif Zaili said Syrian rebels fired on two posts which lay two kilometers (1.25 miles) from the Al-Waleed border crossing linking the two countries.
One Iraqi border guard was killed and two others were maimed, he said. A doctor at a nearby hospital confirmed the toll.
The Syrian side of the Al-Waleed border crossing remains under the control of the regime of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Scourge of Qusayr... , but rebels fighting his rule have sought to take control of it over the course of several months.

[An Nahar] Salafist tough guys fighting the Syrian regime rubbed out a 15-year-old child in front of his parents and siblings Sunday after accusing him of blasphemy, a monitoring group said.
"An unidentified Islamist rebel group rubbed out a 15-year-old child who worked as a coffee seller in (the northern city of Aleppo), after they accused him of blasphemy," said Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman.
Abdel Rahman said the rebel group likely comprised foreign jihadists. "They spoke classical Arabic, not Syrian dialect," he told Agence La Belle France Presse.
"They shot the boy twice -- once in the mouth, another in his neck -- in front of his mother, his father and his siblings," he added.
The Observatory condemned the execution as "criminal and a gift to the regime of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Terror of Aleppo ...
"This kind of criminality is exactly what makes people in Syria fear the fall of the regime," Abdel Rahman said.
The Britannia-based monitoring group, which relies on a broad network of activists, doctors and lawyers in Syria for its reports, demanded the killers' arrest.
"We are working on identifying their names," said Abdel Rahman.

[An Nahar] Syria's army prepared Sunday to launch an assault on Aleppo aimed at driving rebels out of the northern city and surrounding province, a security source told Agence La Belle France Presse.
The preparations came five days after the army and Hizbullah seized Qusayr in center-west Syria, a year after the strategic region had fallen into rebel hands.
"It is likely the battle for Aleppo will start in the coming hours or days, and its aim is to reclaim the towns and villages (under rebel control) in the province," the source said on condition of anonymity.
"The Syrian Arab army is ready to carry out its mission in this province," the source said, without giving further details.
Analysts say its success in Qusayr has given the army the confidence to try to suppress the insurgency elsewhere in the strife-torn country.
Pro-regime daily Al-Watan said Sunday the army has "started to deploy at a large scale in Aleppo province, in preparation for a battle that will be fought in the city and its outskirts".
Rebels in July 2012 launched a massive assault on Aleppo, once Syria's commercial hub. The city has suffered daily regime bombardment and festivities pitting gunnies against troops.
Al-Watan also said "the Syrian army will take advantage of its experience in Qusayr and Eastern Ghouta (near Damascus) to advance in the (central) province of Hama and Homs" nearby.
"The consequences of the battle for Qusayr will... map out the contours of Syria's political future," the daily added.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Friday that the regime was deploying "thousands of soldiers" in the Aleppo region, who aimed to recapture rebel positions and to cut off their weapons supply routes from Turkey.
The Britannia-based monitoring group also said Hizbullah had sent "dozens of its cadres to train hundreds of Syrian Shiites in combat".
Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Leveler of Latakia... 's Alawite community is an offshoot of Shiite Islam, while the majority of rebels are Sunnis.
Activists in Homs, where an army siege of rebel-held areas entered its second year on Sunday, said the city may be next in line for army operations.
"Qusayr was the regime's main focus in the province. Now, we fear they may shift their attention to Homs city," said Yazan, a Homs-based activist who spoke to AFP via the Internet.
