[BLOGS.WSJ] Rep. John Dingell ...Octogenarian Dem representative-for-life from Michigan, first elected sometime in the Lower Paleolithic... (D., Mich.) became the longest-serving member of Congress in U.S. history Friday, and in an interview reflected on major legislative achievements and the changes in Washington over his nearly six decades in the House.
Mr. Dingell, 86 years old, has held his position for 57 years, five months and 26 days. He broke the record held by the late Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia.
Mr. Dingell has been involved in some of Congress's most celebrated achievements. "The single most important vote I cast" was for the 1964 Voting Rights Act, he said in an interview Friday.
He has since helped push through Medicare, the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, and most recently, President Barack Obama I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money... 's health-care overhaul, the Affordable Care Act. From 1981 to 1994, and then from 2006 to 2008, Mr. Dingell was chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee.
He faced a stiff primary challenge in 2002, when redistricting had thrown him into a fight with another Democrat incumbent, Rep. Lynn Rivers, a more liberal member.
His home-state auto interests increasingly put him at odds with the Democratic caucus's commitment to tougher anti-pollution standards. That gap contributed to his ouster as chairman of Energy and Commerce in 2008, when he was successfully challenged by Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D., Calif.).

We now know the district with the most low information voters.
"We really feel in northern and northeastern Colorado that we are ignored -- citizens' concerns are ignored, and we truly feel disenfranchised"
[DENVER.CBSLOCAL] Several Colorado counties that strongly oppose increased regulation of the oil and gas industry say they want to form their own state.
They are planning on calling it North Colorado or Northern Colorado.
The counties are frustrated with the new agricultural and energy bills that have recently been signed into law.
"We really feel in northern and northeastern Colorado that we are ignored -- citizens' concerns are ignored, and we truly feel disenfranchised," Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway told CBS4.

The idiots in Denver all fled there from California, then promptly voted for the same moronic policies that fouled their previous nest. It's only proper that the Coloradans who don't want to live in New California would suggest this.
The only true democracy is the ability to vote with your feet.

Given the Fed's penchant for printing new Dollars in order to offset severe or catastrophic downturns, my money's on what could happen vee the Bammer-vs-China-andor-Iran oversea.

Maybe not a bad idea for 57 states - Southern Illinois, Northern Colorado, Central and Northern California, Austinland, Upstate New York, and Westernvania. I'm sure those in the new states would be happy to be rid of the being imposed upon by the others from their former states.
#6
A bit too late for Southern Illinois. After 50+ years of urban party [Chicago] domination, the survivors are now totally dependent upon the dole. :-(

P2K, give East Saint Louis to Missouri and I'm in on your plan...

Threats or aspirations to secede from the United States or arguments justifying secession have been a feature of the country's politics almost since its birth. Some have argued for secession as a constitutional right and others as from a natural right of revolution. In Texas v. White, the United States Supreme Court ruled unilateral secession unconstitutional, while commenting that revolution or consent of the states could lead to a successful secession.
There's probably some wiggle room within the above statements that allow secession.

Article IV, Section. 3, Clause 1 of the United States Constitutions reads: New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress. Some of the movements to partition states have or do identify themselves as "secessionist" movements.
Basically they have to get the Liberals in Denver to let them go. Which isn't happening.

We could split off Detroit from the rest of Michigan, but Haiti would object to the competition.

This is what the Left does. They are literally too stupid live amongst decent people. Foul the nest and move on. They are a contagion. Eliminating them is the only answer.

We could always exile all the liberals to Vegas and build a wall around it. I think if we check back in ten years or so, a manageable population will remain so that people can visit them and see what true lefties look like. Have a monorail go through the city like a zoo exhibit. Armored of course and totally enclosed to prevent monkey poo incidents.

Why is this not surprising to see president 0 abusing his power and agencies to damage political foes, like the Chicago machine pol and thug he is? The last president to use the national security apparatus to go after political enemies like this was Nixon.
#3
Interesting to note, somebody at No Such Agency has a giant case of the arss, along with a giant set of nads. Releasing a TS document to a foreign press source would have very dire consequences if one is discovered.

Unless the release was authorized, or at least wanted, by the Administration. To, perhaps, deflect attention away from more damaging scandals (IRS?, F&F?) onto something that clearly has Bush fingerprints in its history.

Leno's comment--very funny.
Obama adm. is going to launch a criminal investigation into the NSA leak. Aside from being the height of arrogance and hypocrisy, there is no mention of the shredding the U.S. Constitution and individual rights as a result of the vast surveillance of largely law-abiding citizens.

Quote from Instapundit: 'A reader emails: Ive been wondering why nobody that Ive read has connected this to Obamas high tech campaign that won the election. Who could forget the picture of the crazy looking guy with the big hair, glasses and earrings who worked for Obama?'
Plus: Didn't the Romney campaign's software system experience a malfunction on election day 2012?
Also John Roberts and Obamacare.
In a sane world all of the above would be paranoid drivel. But there's proof of capability and intent.
More like incompetence. IIRC, they skipped over testing, user training, and any sort of redundant capacity in a big way. In the end, the usual new system problems, bit them on the ass. Hard.

That's the difference between being a simple programmer who can throw together a program with Visual Studio and a system/software engineer who understands these little nuances. Sometimes I think there should be a real Software Engineer 'certificate' much like an Electrical Engineer.
But I Digress. The John Roberts angle can be kind of scary. Nobody really expected him to take such path - a Tax???
[NEWSBUSTERS.ORG] Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) had some harsh words Thursday for the Obama administration collecting phone records of millions of Americans. Speaking with Yahoo! News, Paul said, "I think it would be remedial education for those who are doing this. They need to go back and read the Constitution, read the Fourth Amendment, and understand that our records are private."

Bullsh*t, Obama taught Constitutional law, Obama is the guy that came out today and said, yeah were doing it, but we arne't reading or listening to anything. If you buy that, I've got ocean front property in Arizona to sell you.
#2
Legal question to any legal eagles. Can millions of American's class action sue the big corps including the Obama admin for breach of personal data? For once the trial attorneys might even get on board against Obama if the big bucks are in there somewhere for them.
#3
Nieve rubbish. Something akin to saying Pol Pot would have served his constituency more effectively had he attended human rights training sessions. These people do not lack knowledge, believe me.
Our democracy is metastasizing and nearing Stage IV. A wag the dog crisis could plunge us into a secession of the constitution overnight.

Why do you expect the pols to read or care to read the Constitution when even SCOTUS has no reason to follow its specific language. That's the ultimate problem with the notion of 'living breathing', it all devolves into who has the power. However, power is a tricky thing, because it can shift dramatically, uncontrollably by events. That's why the old notion of law involved a deliberate and difficult process with all sorts of brakes and checks. It created its own injustices in that delay, but in the longer run provided protection against even greater injustices.
A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
