#1 I wonder how much longer the news as written here will be allowed to continue. I foresee such news moderated to the point of restriction. Hopefully not going to happen but in my opinion when.

Meanwhile Russia has no ammunition's, rockets and has lost massive waves of Russians army in human waves. 200,000 Russian lives lost, kill ratio of 5-1(five Russians to one Ukrainians). The western media posts only what they think you want to hear or should hear.

#2 Allowed by who, Dale? badanov is doing us the service of translating news and opinion pieces from both sides of the conflict. This may be annoying to partisans on both sides, but allows the disinterested reader the ability to triangulate between two sets of propaganda to arrive at something closer to reality.

Remember that it was the Russians of the Soviet Union who long ago said, “There is no Pravda (truth) in Izvestiya (news) and there is no Izvestiya in Pravda.” Pravda was the news organization of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union and Izvestiya was the news organization of the Soviet government.

#6 Badanov is doing a wonderful job but I foresee a time when his efforts to be balanced will be corrected. Our own government has worked on this since 2014 as I recall. I should say in collusion with various medias as well. Should Rantburg continue it will face disruptive elements as it has in the past. Hopefully not but our government has other plans.

Rantburg and the Chans are outliers. The 2012 repeal of the Smith-Mundt Act has 100% changed the dynamic of media of what 'free speech' is tolerated in the mainstream, of which 'free speech' can be written.

As long as these outlets remain indy and can withstand the Brigading and DDoS, we will have a place to discuss these things. The new churches, the new taverns.

There's so many lurkers here at Rantburg that if any one side gets too partisan, lurkers always usually step in to balance the convo out.

That’s a different question, Dale, and a much nicer one. Fred and badanov own the servers that host Rantburg, and thus far have stood firm against a variety of attacks, from offended Saudi script kiddies (remember JUSTICE’s copy/paste temper tantrums?) to massive DDOS attacks to spam to that horrid Las Vegas group playing legal copyright games — which is part of the reason why we put the name of the source in square brackets at the top of each article and Fred devised his cute little auto-translate program. The other part of the reason is because that way our readers can quickly decide what they think about the content, while the auto-translations are both fun and capture key bits of accumulated knowledge on various subjects.

As for future risks, we’ll all just have to continue to do our best, trusting this nation will not fall fully into the hands of the current generation of totalitarian wannabes.
