Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief March 8, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • POLISH CITIZENS MISSING IN AFGHANISTAN – Adrian Wojcik and Roman Bielski are presumed to be missing in Eastern Afghanistan after over a week of failed attempts to establish contact with them. Some reports say the two may have been arrested by the Taliban, but no definitive details were provided. It is believed the two were involved in humanitarian work, but it is unclear which organization they may have been working for.

  • WOMEN DEMONSTRATE IN KABUL – A day before International Women’s Day, several female protestors marched on the streets of Kabul. The largest rally took place in the Shahr-e-Naw neighborhood. The protestors chanted slogans opposing the gender apartheid policies put in place by the Taliban. There were a few reports the Taliban attempted to break up the protests using their vehicles. No arrests have been reported yet.

  • EU SANCTIONS 2 TALIBAN MINISTERS – Both the Ministers for Higher Education and for Virtue and Vice were sanctioned by the European Union. All assets in the European Union will be frozen and will be banned from travel. In addition, citizens and entities in the EU will be prohibited from financing either individual.

  • 4.2 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE RATTLES AFGHANISTAN – It is thought the quake struck in Badakhshan Province and no damage or casualties have been reported.

NEXT 24 HOURS
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY, POSSIBLE PROTEST CRACKDOWN – As today marks Internation Women’s Day, protests are expected in several cities across the country. The police forces have been circulating instructions on how to deal with the protests and these instructions are rumored to have ruled out violence as a means of disrupting the protests. The few international press members who are in the country will be watching events closely. While it sounds as if the Taliban leadership is discouraging a strong police response, things could easily get out of hand. In addition, terror groups may use the opportunity to launch an attack due to the high probability it would get international media coverage. At-risk Afghans are advised to be extremely cautious around any demonstration sites. Remain situationally aware and be prepared to leave the area rapidly should an incident take place.

Al-Shabaab launches morning raid in Somalia's Jubaland, claims recaptured base
[Garowe] al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

Death Eaters on Tuesday launched a daring attack in Jana Cabdalle, a town located in Jubaland state, reports indicate, in an attack which was direct Dire Revenge following the takeover coordinated by regional troops and the Somali National Army [SNA] last month.

The town was captured by the Jubaland Darwish forces last month following an operation that was activated by President Ahmed Islam Mohammed Madobe, the Jubaland leader who has been a champion in the fight against the Death Eaters for the last ten years since his time in Ras Kamboni Brigade.

Residents in Bulogudud reported hearing the huge explosion early Tuesday morning and it is believed that the Death Eaters exchanged fire with the Death Eaters who were forcing entry. More often than not, the al-Shabaab coordinate retaliatory attacks in areas that have been liberated by the military.

Al-Shabaab group claimed its fighters targeted Jana Cabdalle with the complex attack but until now, the casualty is not known. The group did not disclose the motive of the attack but in most instances, they have been going for innocent civilians, members of the security forces, and in some cases, senior government officials.

Jubaland has been closely working with the Somali National Army [SNA], the US Africa Command, and the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] which are stationed in Sectors II and VI. The teams are credited for liberating several strategic towns including Kismayo
...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region....
, the regional administrative capital of Jubaland.

During the battle last month, Jubaland State announced launching the first of a ’multi-front military offensive’ against al-Shabaab. Jubaland reported that federal and regional forces captured Jana Cabdalle, about 52km northwest of Kismayo town without a fight, and went on to secure the village.

Somalia has heightened operations against al-Shabaab for the last seven months, killing about 600 Death Eaters in the process. To further frustrate the attackers, the government has incorporated religious scholars in trying to prevent the radicalization of hopeless youths who are lured into the group.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has also tightened loopholes for al-Shabaab finances with the group losing millions of dollars from banks and mobile money transfer firms associated with them. Business owners who have been remitting taxes to the Death Eaters have also been warned, with some risking cancellation of their licenses.
There has been no fighting in the past week, fuelling speculation in Somalia that the offensive has stalled.

The government said it was merely observing a pause before launching the next phase of operations.

Al Shabaab attacked the base in Janay Abdale, about 60 km (37 miles) to the west of the port city of Kismayu, early in the morning with a car bomb and gunfire, Major Abdullahi Hussein told Reuters from Kismayu.

He said al Shabaab had cut communications in the area and that the army had sent reinforcements.

The Jubbaland government said regional and national forces had inflicted a “big blow” on al Shabaab but did not provide details.

Halima Osman said her husband, who survived the attack and managed to get out of the base, had called her with a colleague’s phone.

“He told me they ran into the bush after the bombing and fierce fighting killed many of his friends and the military vehicles were burnt,” she told Reuters.

Al Shabaab confirmed it was behind the attack. “We control the base. We took all their weapons,” it said in a statement.
Speaking to Radio Shabelle, a resident said that the fight was very intense and lasted for almost one hour. The combined forces managed to successfully repel the ambush.

The preliminary reports from the area indicated that the attack resulted in losses on the two warring parties, but the number still remained unclear.

Terrorists Impose N2million ‘Fine’ On Zamfara Communities To Allow Them Hold Elections
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Terrorists, locally dubbed as bandidos, whose activities have recently resumed in the North-West, have imposed a total sum of N2million on residents of Yan-buki, Kadamutsa and Dada communities under the Zurmi local government area of Zamfara State, before they can participate in the Saturday’s elections, SaharaReporters has learnt.

Several sources confirmed this on Monday, including a tweet shared by @AM_Saleeem, a northern social media influencer, on Monday afternoon.

He wrote, "Bandits have imposed N2million levy each on Yan-buki, Kadamutsa and Dada communities under zurmi LGA, Zamfara State N200,000 for every PU, before they could conduct the gubernatorial election in the above areas. The residents confirmed."

Zamfara is one of 31 Nigerian states that will elect new governors on March 11—two weeks after the presidential and National Assembly elections.

Zurmi local government area of the state is one of the most attacked areas in the state by faceless myrmidons in recent times.

In October, no fewer than ten communities in the Local Government Area were attacked by armed bandidos within a week.

The names of the villages affected were given as Yanbuki, Bindin, Kadamutsa, Gidan Zago, Marmaro, Dada, Maduba, Kacha, Huhu, Dangasamu, Hushin Dusti.

This made many villagers to desert their homes due to fear of constant attacks.

UAE Sends Intelligence Unit to Support STC Against Saudi Moves in Socotra
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The UAE has sent a team of intelligence to limit the new Saudi activities being made in Socotra archipelago.

A source familiar with the matter said that the UAE team, headed by an officer Hamad al-Zaabi, called "Abu Rashid", arrived in the city of Hadibo during the past two days to redeploy the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia from the Dhalea and Yafaa areas.

The sources confirmed that the "Abu Rashid", summoned the so-called police chief, Ali al-Daksami, and the commander of the STC militia, Ali Omar Kafayen, and a number of leaders to brief them on plans to confront the new Saudi moves after establishing a military base in the Muri area near Socotra airport.

The sources indicated that the Emirati alert in Socotra came in the context of responding to the Saudi moves in the southern provinces, affirming that a UAE-funded commander of the so-called Coast Guard Battalion, Mohammed Ahmed Ali, was entrusted to limit the Saudi activity in the island.

The Emirati alert was also response to when last week, Saudi forces returned the former governor of Socotra, Ramzi Mahrous, affiliated with the Islah party, who has fled to Mahra province since the UAE forces took control of Hadiboh in collusion with the Saudi forces in June 2020

i security official and placed him in one of its notorious prisons in Riyadh.

Media sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday that the arrest came after the official was summoned by the head of the so-called Riyadh-formed Presidential Council, Rashad al-Alimi.

The sources reported the arrested Mufti Suhail Nahayan Samoudah, a security director of Mahrah province, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition, has been held since last January.

"Saudi Arabia

took Brigadier General Samoudah, who holds Saudi nationality, to one of its prisons, after he was summoned by al-Alimi, without mentioning the special reasons behind the arrest," the sources added.

The sources suggested that the arrest of Samoudah was related to the implementation of the US-Saudi interests in Mahrah province.

The Saudi ambassador, Mohammed Al Jaber, one of officials who supported a decision to appoint Mufti Suhail Nahayan Samouda as director of security for Mahrah, after the Saudi forces entered the port of Nishtun and took control of al-Ghaydah airport in mid-July 2018.

American tourists killed after being kidnapped in Mexico ID'd as Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown
[NYPOST] The two Americans who were found dead in Mexico after being kidnapped at gunpoint during a terrifying shootout between rival cartel gangs have been identified as Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown.

A US official familiar investigation confirmed the identities to CNN
...the organization formerly known as the Cable News Network. Now who knows what it might stand for...
Tuesday.

Woodward and Brown had traveled from South Carolina to Mexico with pals Latavia "Tay" McGee and Eric James so McGee could undergo a tummy tuck procedure, relatives said Monday.

Shortly after the foursome crossed the border Friday into the crime-ridden city of Matamoros, located in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, they became caught in the crosshairs of a violent mostly peaceful cartel showdown.

Harrowing video of the shootout shows the moment the group was forced into the back of a pickup truck in broad daylight after being shot at.

McGee and James survived the attack and were rushed Tuesday to Brownsville, Texas in a convoy of ambulances and SUVs escorted by Mexican military Humvees and National Guard trucks with mounted .50-caliber machine guns.

Police said one of the two survivors was severely injured, but didn’t specify whom.

McGee’s mother said that her daughter was supposed to get her operation on the day of the kidnapping.

After being kidnapped, the foursome was "placed in a vehicle and taken from the scene by gunnies." the FBI

Frank,

It's entirely possible - stressing the 'possible' - that this is an partially accurate story for a couple reasons.

* The rental car isn't much of an issue - I pass an Enterprise rental lot every day to and from work, and there are cars there with SC, NC, FL, GA, and other plates.

* I want to phrase this part carefully, lest I be accused of insensitivity to others: There is a huge market among certain groups for cosmetic surgery whether they need it or not, and whether or not they have insurance that can/will pay for it. Mexico caters to that market with cash and carry plastic surgery, and frankly, you get what you can afford to pay for. For a couple thousand, you can get it done, though I would be very hesitant to stake my life on it.

Now - having said all that - it doesn't take three guys to escort somebody for something like this. I wouldn't be ruling out the idea that they figured as long as they were headed that way, they could do some shopping. They went to the wrong place at the wrong time.

#16  There is a huge market among certain groups for cosmetic surgery whether they need it or not

The entirety of the middle and upper classes of Latin America, I believe. I have a Canadian girlfriend who married into a Mexican family, and she was given a nose job as a wedding gift by a surgeon friend of her husband’s. She went back to him in Mexico City for various other surgeries in the years that followed...

.Most health insurance plans do not cover cosmetic surgery, or only for very limited, health-related things. The same girlfriend got her eldest son a nose job by arguing that it would be part of the repair of a severely deviated septum that resulted from his nose having been broken in childhood.

Fifth Column
Rich New Yorker among protesters arrested in Atlanta 'Cop City' violence
[NYPOST] A rich-kid New Yorker is among the nearly two dozen "violent mostly peaceful agitators" charged with domestic terrorism after a protest at the site of a future Atlanta police training facility descended into chaos.

Mattia Luini, 30, and his fellow protesters are accused of carrying out Sunday’s "coordinated attack" on the under-construction Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, which saw cops pelted with Molotov cocktails and fireworks.

Luini, whose late father, Ivan Luini, helped popularize high-end plastic furniture in the US,
...Mr. Luini designed cleverly gorgeous things, relatively inexpensive for high end design — which is not at all the same as affordable. He died in 2006, when our future disingenuous miscreant was 17...
was still stuck behind bars as of Tuesday afternoon, online court records showed.

His mother, Micaela Martegani, who is involved in the Big Apple’s art world,
...that sounds awfully impressive, but really she indulges herself as a head honcho and curator for an artist-oriented charity...
told The Post Tuesday that she’d only spoken to her son briefly since his arrest — and that he’d insisted the violent mostly peaceful incident was "completely random."

"We haven’t been able to talk in much detail. He doesn’t know much of what happened," Martegani said.

"(Mattia) said it was completely random. I don’t know more than that."

Luini had said he was heading to Atlanta over the weekend only to attend a concert and "protest the development of the forest," according to his mom.
The problem is that the protests are organized by Antifa, who are incapable of not causing destruction and mayhem — exactly as happened last weekend.
Police, however, say he was among those who allegedly staged an attack to protest the $90 million development of the training center — dubbed "Cop City."

It wasn’t immediately clear what Luini, who appears to have been raised in New York City, does for a living or if he still calls the Big Apple home.

His businessman father, Ivan, was president of the New York-based Kartell US — a high-end Italian furniture company that specialized in plastic design.

Given the FBI's/HLS definition and 6 U.S.C. 101.

Plus, now with firebombs being thrown, which qualifies as organized attempted murder of law enforcement personnel.

When will we see ANTI-FA and BLoM officially declared as Domestic Terrorism organizations?

Which would mean the arrests of the $$$$ backers, the radical SIG support groups, the behind the scenes LSD leadership, and confiscation/seizure of their operational assets.

So I have to ask. Is Gov. Kemp holding the GBI/GSP back from doing a clean sweep?

Because, what I saw years ago working around the GBI & Ga State Patrol (affectionately knows as aka GOD's Special People) staff.
These guys are 100% better than the Fed's and could single out an ant, in an ant pile, if needed.

Two LeT associates held in Kunzer Baramulla, ammunition recovered

Two associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
oufit were arrested during a cordon and search operation in north Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
's Baramulla district, police said today.

In a statement, a police front man said that a joint party of police and 176 BN CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Monchkhud village of Kunzer following "specific information" about the presence of terrorists.

During the operation, two suspects were apprehended, he said, adding that they were identified as Khurshid Ahmad Khan, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and Reyaz Ahmad Khan, son of Gh Mohi ud Din Khan -- both residents of Zandpal Kunzer.

Two AK-47 Magazines, 15 AK 47 rounds, 20 Blank posters of banned LeT (TRF) were recovered from their possession.

During questioning, the duo revealed that they were working LeT (TRF), added the official, adding that they were taken into custody immediately.

The associates, he said, obtained these illegal ammunition with an intent to carry out terrorist activities in Kunzer and adjacent areas.

A case under sections of Arms and UA (P) Act stands registered in Police station Kunzer and investigation set in motion.

Fight against ISIS is Washington’s only purpose in Iraq: Pentagon chief
[Rudaw] The United States’ only purpose in Iraq is its focus on ensuring the defeat of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS), said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin following his arrival in the capital Baghdad on Tuesday, as the 20th anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq approaches.

Austin is currently on a multi-day tour to Washington partner nations in the Middle East. He kicked off his tour in Jordan on Sunday, meeting with King Abdullah II. The purpose of the defense chief’s visit is to emphasize US’ continued commitment to their partners in the region, according to the Pentagon.

After landing in Baghdad, the Austin met with Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and Defense Minister Thabet Muhammad al-Abbasi, reiterating Washington’s commitment to assisting Iraq in eliminating the threat of ISIS.

"We are focused on the mission of defeating ISIS [ISIS]. We are here for no other purpose," said Austin in a presser in Baghdad, adding that US troops are ready to remain Iraq upon the invitation of the government.

Austin is also set to visit the Kurdistan Region’s capital of Erbil later in the day where he will meet with the Kurdistan Region's President and Commander-in-Chief of the Region's Armed Forces Nechirvan Barzani.

The global coalition against ISIS was formally established in October 2014, after ISIS took control of vast swathes of territories in Iraq and Syria. Consisting of 79 nations and five international organizations, the US-led coalition seeks to ensure ISIS’ "enduring defeat."

The US security relationship with Iraq fully transitioned into an advising and assisting role in December 2021. There are currently about 2,500 US troops in Iraq, including in the Kurdistan Region.

Lebanese man grabs rifle magazine from soldier during border tussle, IDF says
[IsraelTimes] None hurt during latest confrontation along the frontier; army says it is probing incident

Israeli troops scuffled with a group of Lebanese men while carrying out engineering work on the tense border between the countries, the Israel Defense Forces said Tuesday.

The incident was the latest confrontation along the de facto frontier, where disputes over the demarcation of national boundaries along a UN-patrolled ceasefire line have led to face-to-face altercations, sometimes with deadly results.

During the incident Tuesday, dozens of people gathered near troops working along the border. One Lebanese man stole a magazine from a soldier’s gun, the Israeli army said.

No one was reported to have been hurt during the clash.

The incident was under investigation.

Video published on social media appeared to show members of the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
peacekeeping force separating Israeli soldiers from the Lebanese following the incident.

The incident follows another on Sunday when Israeli and Lebanese soldiers reportedly had a standoff amid accusations that members of the IDF breached the Blue Line separating the countries.

A front man for UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping outfit deployed along the buffer zone, told the Lebanese news outlet L’Orient at the time that it was "aware of tensions along the Blue Line in the area of Aita al-Shaab, where some Israeli maintenance works are ongoing" and that its peacekeepers were working to de-escalate the situation.

Ali Shoeib, a news hound for the Hezbollah-backed Lebanese news outlet al-Manar, tweeted video appearing to show Israeli and Lebanese soldiers arguing during the Sunday incident.

During a speech on Monday, Hezbollah leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
...The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
praised Lebanese who, he said, have faced off against Israeli troops along the Blue Line.

The terror chief said it was the threat of Hezbollah’s military might backing up the Lebanese army that enables the latter to stand up to the IDF on the border, and claimed that in recent weeks Israel has been trying to move the border by seizing meters of the Lebanese territory, but has been repelled.

Israeli troops kill one six in Jenin raid; Gazans shoot rockets straight up, miss Israel completely
[An Nahar] Israeli troops on Tuesday killed one Paleostinian and maimed several others in a raid in the occupied West Bank, the Paleostinian the health ministry said.

"Mohammad Wael Ghazzawi, 26, was killed by occupation (Israeli) bullets to the chest in Jenin," the ministry said in a statement, shortly after reporting five people had been maimed.

The Israel army said "security forces are currently operating in the Jenin (refugee) camp" in the northern West Bank, but gave no further details.

But wait — there’s more!
Rocket sirens sound in southern Israel after deadly West Bank raid

[IsraelTimes] IDF says failed launch from Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
landed inside the Strip; attempted attack comes after Jenin anti-terror operation that left six Paleostinians dead

A failed rocket launch set off alert sirens in southern Israel during the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning, as security forces were on high alert following a deadly raid against bully boyz in the West Bank. The sirens went off in Nir Am, a kibbutz next to the northern part of Gaza, near the city of Sderot.

The Israeli Defense Forces said a rocket that had been fired from Gaza landed within the confines of the Strip. Crude projectiles used by Gaza terror groups sometimes malfunction and fail to make it into Israeli territory.

On Tuesday, police in Jerusalem and surrounding areas were put on increased alert amid fears Paleostinians would attempt to exact Dire Revenge for the raid by Israeli troops in Jenin that left six dead. The move was announced hours after Israeli troops entered Jenin and surrounded a house as they hunted the suspected terrorist who killed two Israelis in the West Bank last week. The incursion set off a gunbattle that left six Paleostinians dead, including Abdel Fattah Hussein Kharousha, 49, the wanted terrorist.

Kharousha, a Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, member from the Askar refugee camp near Nablus, opened fire on an Israeli car driving through the northern West Bank town of Huwara on February 26, killing Israeli brothers Hallel and Yagel Yaniv. The Hamas terror group rules the Gaza Strip.

Paleostinian health officials said another 12 people were maimed in the Jenin raid, three seriously.

Three Israeli soldiers were maimed, one moderately and two lightly.

Troops also raided Nablus, arresting the two sons of the alleged Huwara killer, Khaled and Muhammed Kharousha, the IDF said. According to the Shin Bet, the pair were suspected of planning and helping carry out the February 26 attack in Huwara.

US backs Israeli right to self-defense after deadly IDF raid in Jenin

[IsraelTimes] US Ambassador Ned Price also expresses concern over latest settler attack in Huwara, but does not urge restraint from Israel; Jordan, PA condemn operation that killed 6, including terror suspect.

Six Palestinians were killed in the Tuesday daytime raid, including 49-year-old Abdel Fattah Hussein Kharousha, the Hamas member behind last week’s Huwara terror shooting. The other five were members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror groups. Twelve other Palestinians were injured, three of whom were seriously, the Palestinian health ministry said. Israel Police said three officers of the elite Yamam counterterrorism unit were wounded during the raid, one of whom moderately and the other two lightly.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran makes first arrests in school poisonings that have affected 5,000 students
[IsraelTimes] Deputy interior minister says ’a number of people’ detained across five provinces; most victims are girls; White House calls for ’credible independent investigation’

Iran’s deputy interior minister on Tuesday announced the first arrests in a spate of mystery poisonings of schoolgirls which have gripped the country for the past several months.

"Based on the intelligence and research measures of the intelligence agencies, a number of people have been arrested in five provinces and the relevant agencies are conducting a full investigation," Majid Mirahmadi told state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
.More than 5,000 Iranian schoolchildren have been affected by the spate of poisonings that has targeted mainly female pupils since late November, according to a politician investigating the cases.

The mystery poisonings have gripped Iran, triggering a wave of anger and demands for action from the authorities.

They have also sparked international concern and Western calls for an independent investigation, particularly as the first cases were reported soon after the start of nationwide protests sparked by the death of Iranian Kurd Mahsa Amini, 22, following her arrest for allegedly breaching Iran’s strict dress code for women.

Scores of schools have been hit, with pupils suffering symptoms ranging from shortness of breath to nausea and vertigo after reporting "unpleasant" odors on school premises. Some have been treated in hospitals.

"Twenty-five provinces and approximately 230 schools have been affected, and more than 5,000 schoolgirls and boys poisoned," Mohammad-Hassan Asafari, a member of the parliamentary fact-finding committee, told the ISNA news agency on Monday.

"Various tests are being carried out to identify the type and cause of the poisonings. So far, no specific information has been obtained regarding the type of poison used."

Calling the poisonings an "unforgivable crime," Iran’s Lord High Potentate and Supreme Leader of All He Surveys Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
gave orders Monday for the perpetrators to be tracked down "without mercy."

President Ebrahim Raisi already tasked the interior ministry last week with providing continuous updates on the investigation.

"In less than five percent of the students transferred to hospital, irritant materials were found which led to their ill-health," the ministry said in its latest update Monday. "Fortunately, so far, no toxic or dangerous substances have been found in any of the students transferred to medical centers."

The latest case — reported by the ISNA news agency — involved 40 pupils, all of them female, in the restive southeastern city of Zahedan.

The White House called Monday for a "credible independent investigation" into the poisonings.

The first cases were reported in Iran’s Shiite holy manal capital of Qom in late November, a month after the Amini protests that later spread to universities and schools.

On Tuesday, Tehran prosecutor Ali Salehi warned "those who spread lies and rumors" about the poisonings that "they will be dealt with decisively and legally," the judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported.
Update from Deutsche Welle at 10:00 a.m. ET:
The Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
on Tuesday announced that several individuals had been arrested in six different provinces around the country in connection with an ongoing wave of poisonings mainly affecting schoolgirls.

The poisonings, which started in late November, have affected more than 5,000 students at some 230 schools across 25 of the country's 31 provinces.

The Interior Ministry accused some of those arrested of having ties to "foreign-based dissident media" as well as having participated in ongoing nationwide protests — which the government describes as riots — over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody after being arrested for failing to correctly cover her hair in public.

"Three members of a team of four people arrested have a history of being involved in recent riots and their connection to foreign-based dissident media has been ascertained," read the Interior Ministry statement.

The Interior Ministry also claimed that one of those arrested used their own child to deliver irritants to their school before sharing footage of the aftermath with "hostile media."

Deputy Health Minister Saeed Karimi suggested the poisonings may not be the result of gas, but rather "a powder or paste or even a liquid, which when poured over a heater or vaporized by heat can cause complications."

The poisonings have further heightened anti-government sentiment in Iran, with citizens demanding action.

Tehran Chief Prosecutor Ali Salehi on Tuesday said: "Those who spread lies and rumors will be dealt with decisively and legally."

"In the past week, court cases and charges have been filed against the managers of the Hammihan, Rouydad24 and Shargh media, as well as several individuals," Salehi added.

According to the NGO Human Rights Activists in Iran, nearly 20,000 people have been arrested since protests began last September, while at least 527 have been killed by authorities in their efforts to quell the protests.

The Oslo-based NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR) says 109 individuals face execution for their roles in the protests. Four people have already been hanged.

Clashes continue in eastern Daraa over drug trafficking
[NPASyria] Violent festivities erupted in eastern Daraa region on Tuesday between the Eighth Brigade, affiliated with the military intelligence of Syrian government forces, and armed drug trafficking groups.

A local source told North Press, "Clashes erupted after members of the group of Ismael al-Qaddah [leader of a drug ring], nicknamed Smigel, returned to the town of Umm al-Mayathin after leaving it yesterday, following festivities with the Eighth Brigade."

The source said that the group of Fayez al-Radi, another leader of a narco mob, arrived at the town to support Ismael al-Qaddah’s group.

"Heavy weapons and mortars have been used in the current festivities, setting many houses on fire and injuring several civilians," the source added.

Another local source said that a number of button men from al-Qaddah’s group were killed during the festivities, adding that those killed have not been identified yet due to the ongoing festivities.

Residents of the town called on conflicting parties to keep their festivities away from the town to avoid endangering civilians, several locals told North Press.

On Monday, gangs affiliated with the Eighth Brigade stormed several towns in the eastern Daraa region looking for people involved in drug smuggling.
