#4 49 Pan, Wikipedia has a nice write-up. Apparently young Anwar was born in New Mexico while his father was studying there. They returned to Yemen when the boy was seven. He returned to the U.S. to go to college, having wangled a scholarship from the Yemeni government, which doesn't seem to have gotten much return on the investment.
