#2 This whole article is weasel worded and biased.
Example: "A military investigator's report..." but not 'the' report. Or how about "Still, there is little dispute that the increased intensity...". Hey, I dispute it. The enemy uses human shields, mingles with the civilian populace, and is supported by some of that populace. That is the most likely cause of the 'civilian casualties', if even they can still be classed as such, instead of being better classed as accomplices.
And as for Karzai; give me a break. He is a part of the problem, not a part of the solution.
This writer is clearly biased and has an agenda. God, I can hardly wait for the 'newspapers' to die off.

#8 A United Nations report released last month specifically blamed clandestine missions by commando units for contributing to a surge in civilian deaths in Afghanistan in 2008. The report concluded that the number of civilian casualties rose nearly 40 percent compared with 2007, although it found that suicide bombings and other Taliban attacks were the primary cause.

#9 The kind of reporting (?) we have come to expect from the NYTs. Slovenly, lazy, slanted and biased. When are they going to fold up their tent? I don't even like their crossword puzzles. This rag doesn't even absorb cat pi$$ very well.
