U.S. Court Denies Trump Administration Bid To Resume Federal Executions
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court on Monday denied the Justice Department’s request to overturn a lower court decision that temporarily stalled plans by President Donald Trump’s administration to resume executions of prisoners convicted of certain federal crimes after a 16-year hiatus.

The three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit found that the administration had "not satisfied the stringent requirements" to stay the lower court’s ruling. The administration had planned to resume executions of federal death row inmates starting on Dec. 9.

The ruling follows a Nov. 21 decision by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan
A Jamaican, not American, appointed by O
to stay the planned executions of four federal death row inmates until a long-running legal challenge to the Justice Department's lethal injection protocol can be resolved.

The lawsuits, the first of which was filed in 2005, challenged the protocol on the grounds that it violated the U.S. Constitution's Eighth Amendment ban on cruel and unusual punishment by carrying a risk of severe pain. The suits also said the protocol violated a federal law called the Administrative Procedure Act because it was written in secret without public input.
I don't understand this fascination with the pain involved. You're gonna kill somebody bad enough to warrant killing him. 'Ya, but killing him shouldn't hurt him.' If you're that concerned, how about a shot to the head ? You ain't running out of those downers any time soon.
The case fell dormant during President Barack Obama's tenure after the federal government was forced to halt executions and abandon its previous three-drug protocol due to a shortage of one of the drugs, an anesthetic called sodium thiopental.

But the case was revived in July, after U.S. Attorney General William Barr, appointed by Trump earlier in the year, scheduled the execution of five federal death row inmates and unveiled a new protocol that calls for using a single drug, pentobarbital, for the lethal injection.

5th Amendment -

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Mexico gunbattle near Texas border between suspected cartel members, police leaves at least 21 dead
[FoxNews] Four police officers were among nearly two dozen people killed after security forces engaged in an hour-long gunbattle with suspected cartel members Saturday in a Mexican town near the U.S. border, days after President Trump said he was moving to designate Mexican drug cartels as terror organizations.

The shootout happened around noon in the small town of Villa Union, a town in Coahuila state located about an hour’s drive southwest of Eagle Pass, Texas.

Coahuila state Gov. Miguel Angel Riquelme told local media that four of the dead were police officers killed in the initial confrontation and that several municipal workers were missing. On Sunday, the Coahuila state government said that security forces killed seven additional members of the gang, bringing the death toll to at least 21.

The big picture: the fading of hope in post-apartheid South Africa
[Guardian] Gideon Mendel’s powerful, water-damaged image from 1980s Johannesburg speaks to the deterioration of memory.

In 1990, when the photographer Gideon Mendel left his native South Africa for London, he deposited a number of boxes in his friend’s garage in Johannesburg for safekeeping. These boxes contained, among other things, negatives and transparencies from Mendel’s harrowing first few years as a photojournalist during the struggle against apartheid in the mid-80s.

Over the next three decades, Mendel became renowned for his intimate, socially engaged photography, documenting the effects of the HIV/Aids crisis and climate breakdown. For one project, from his Drowning World series, he has gathered nearly 2,000 water-damaged family photographs picked up on his journeys through flooded communities in the US, India and elsewhere.

Court Filing: Obama Holdover Heading Office Under Investigation for ‘Illegally Leaked' Classified Document
From November 27th, but still very interesting.
[EpochTimes] The Obama holdover heading the Pentagon office reportedly under investigation by the U.S. attorney who is conducting the criminal probe of the Trump–Russia investigation was accused of leaking a classified document, in a recent court filing for retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

According to a Nov. 21 report by independent journalist Sara Carter, U.S. Attorney John Durham is questioning personnel in the Pentagon’s Office of Net Assessment (ONA). ONA awarded about $1 million in contracts to FBI informant Stefan Halper, who appears to have played a key role in alleged U.S. intelligence agency spying on 2016 Trump campaign advisers Carter Page and George Papadopoulos.

In addition, however, a court filing indicates that ONA’s director, James H. Baker, “is believed to be the person who illegally leaked the transcript of Mr. Flynn’s calls” to The Washington Post. Specifically, the filing states, “ONA Director Baker regularly lunched with Washington Post Reporter David Ignatius.”

The filing adds that Baker “was Halper’s ‘handler’” at ONA. Moreover, according to the court filing, the tasks assigned to “known long-time operative for the CIA/FBI” Halper “seem to have included slandering Mr. Flynn with accusations of having an affair with a young professor (a British national of Russian descent).”

Baker didn’t respond to a request for comment by The Epoch Times as of press time.

The filing notes that Flynn’s defense team has requested phone records for then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, likewise in order to confirm contacts with Ignatius. The filing singles out records for Jan. 10, 2017, when, according to the filing, “Clapper told Ignatius in words to the effect of ‘take the kill shot on Flynn.’”

Clapper didn’t respond to a request for comment by The Epoch Times as of press time.

The Pentagon’s current inspector general has already found that Baker’s office “did not maintain documentation of the work performed by Professor Halper or any communication that ONA personnel had with Professor Halper.” As a result, according to the inspector general, ONA staff “could not provide sufficient documentation that Professor Halper conducted all of his work in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.”

Acting Pentagon Inspector General Glenn A. Fine in November 2017 started an investigation into charges that Baker retaliated against a whistleblower who red-flagged “rigged” contracts, including Halper’s. Another $11 million in contracts under scrutiny went to the Long Term Strategy Group (LTSG), which is run by a schoolmate of Chelsea Clinton, whom she has referred to as her “best friend.”

According to the whistleblower’s attorney, “Baker’s interest was his awareness of the LTSG-Clinton connection; his presumptive desire to exploit that to his advantage in the event of a Clinton election win; and the fact that contractors like LTSG served as a lucrative landing pad for ONA retirees.”

After 75 years, a War Hero Gets France's Highest Honor
[Mil.com] JACKSONVILLE, Florida -- Glenn Pitts lived a quiet life after World War II, but a friend's tip led to the 94-year-old receiving the Legion of Honor for his part in liberating France.

Glenn Pitts has been a laundry manager, a building contractor and a Jacksonville landlord.

On Nov. 22, the French government named him a knight of the Legion of Honor, its highest distinction, for his part in liberating France from Nazi occupation 75 years ago.

"We know what we owe you and your brothers," Laurent Gallissot, France's consul general in Miami, told the 94-year-old Army veteran during a ceremony at Jacksonville City Hall.

Pitts, the diplomat said, was "a true hero and a great soldier."

The 40-person audience filled less than half of the City Council chambers, but praise for the veteran was heartfelt.

"I think we should all be forever grateful," Council Vice President Tommy Hazouri told Pitts, who lives in the Westside's Woodstock Park area.

France decided in 2004 -- the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landing -- to award the medal to any U.S. veteran who had fought on French soil and requested the honor.
France decided in 2004 -- the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landing -- to award the medal to any U.S. veteran who had fought on French soil and requested the honor.

Gallissot said his office has presented maybe 2,000 since then, some to men whose own families know very little about their experiences in the war.

Combat veterans all experienced some trauma, Gallissot said, and some just prefer not to share those memories. Like Pitts.

"We lost a lot of people, so I don't talk about it that much," Pitts told an audience that included people dressed to represent veterans’ groups.

The broad strokes of his war service were interesting enough.

Drafted when he was 18, the Eastman, Georgia, native learned to operate a water-cooled .30-cal. machine gun that could fire hundreds of rounds per minute. He was a private in the Army's 63rd Infantry Division when he was deployed to the French Mediterranean port of Marseilles in December 1944.

Of the five months that followed, he said Thursday, 120 days were spent "on the line," in combat zones that by February 1945 had advanced to the German border at the Saar River.

By the time troops crossed the river on a rope bridge, he was a 19-year-old squad leader. He would have still been a private, but his squad leader had been wounded and he became the replacement, jumping the ranks to sergeant in one step.

He was still in Germany when the Nazi government surrendered in May 1945 and was reassigned to a Signal Corps unit where he finished out his service.

Back in civilian life, he got a job, raised a family and built houses. He still rents some of his houses, one of them to the friend who helped him apply for the award after reading about another Legion of Honor recipient. He and Pitts' family clapped hard to see the quiet man being honored.

"I'm so overjoyed to see him getting this," said his daughter, Susan Wallace. "He did what he had to, he kept his head down and he got back home."

Six Of London Bridge Terrorist Usman Khan's Fellow Stock Exchange Bomb Plotters Have Also Been Freed From Prison
[Daily Mail via Weasel Zippers] Six of the eight terrorist plotters who were jailed along with London Bridge attacker Usman Khan in 2012 have also been freed from prison, it has emerged.

The nine jihadists were members of an al-Qaeda-inspired cell which plotted to blow up the London Stock Exchange and kill Boris Johnson.

One is still in prison, another was convicted for a further terror plot and Khan is dead ‐ leaving six back on the streets, it is believed.

Three of the nine ‐ Khan, Mohammad Shahjahan and Nazam Hussein ‐ were initially handed indefinite prison terms, but the trio won an appeal in 2013 which changed them to fixed sentences.

Allowing their appeal, former press inquiry chair Lord Justice Leveson found they had been ’wrongly characterised’ as more dangerous than the others.

Khan was released in December 2018 after serving half of his fixed sentence ‐ and the other two have also been freed, The Sun on Sunday reported.

  • Heavily armed with rifles, the seven masked assailants - believed to be members of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel - stormed the General Hospital of Salvatierra in Guanajuato, southern Mexico, on November 21

  • Holding a security guard hostage and forcing him to help them find their target, the men move quickly down the hall before hauling out a patient on a stretcher

  • Just hours later, police were summoned to a roundabout on Torress Landa where the dismembered body of a man was found placed on white sheet

  • Accompanied by a message written on a cardboard sign, the body was confirmed to be the man who was taken from the hospital

  • The patient, who has not been identified publicly, had been brutally butchered with many of his limbs found scattered along the roadside

BET founder Bob Johnson says 2020 Democrats don't stand a chance against Trump
[NYP] BET founder Bob Johnson is putting his money on Donald Trump to spend another four years in the White House.

Johnson, America’s first black billionaire, thinks there’s no Democrat who can take down the president in 2020.

"If you take a snapshot today, I don’t think that group is capable of beating Trump despite what the polls say," Johnson, 73, told CNBC. "I think the president has always been in a position where it’s his to lose based on his bringing a sort of disruptive force into what would be called political norms."

Though the president remains rock solid with GOP voters, he has struggled with African Americans. He received just 8 percent of the black vote in 2016, has made many overtures to African Americans, including speaking at the Black Leadership Summit in Washington and his public bromance with Kanye West.

"What the hell do you have to lose?" Trump famously told black voters in August 2016, urging them to vote for him and arguing that Hillary Clinton and Democratic policies had failed their community.

Maine man dies after being shot by own booby trap at home
[Guardian] A man in Maine died on Thanksgiving after being shot by his own booby trap at home, authorities said.

Ronald Cyr, 65, called 911 early Thursday evening, telling operators that he had been shot, the Van Buren Police Department said on Facebook.

Police and medics went to the scene and gave Cyr medical assistance. "Regretfully, Mr. Cyr succumbed to the injuries he sustained from the gunshot," authorities said.

Officers learned that the front door of Cyr’s home was "outfitted with a device designed to fire a handgun should anyone attempt to enter the door."

They discovered "other unknown devices" and subsequently called Maine state police bomb squad.

The agencies investigated Cyr’s home into the early morning hours of 29 November; authorities determined that he was shot "as the result of the unintentional discharge of one of his homemade devices".

Two people reached by the Guardian, who said they were family members, claimed their brother’s home had long been targeted by burglars and voiced frustration toward authorities.

Mark and Lorraine, who identified themselves as two of Ronald’s siblings, said Ronald had long complained that items such as tools and car painting supplies had gone missing. They alleged that Ronald Cyr complained to authorities, but police treated him "like he was senile", Mark claimed.

The police department could not be reached for additional comment.

He was afraid," Mark said. "The cops wouldn’t do nothing so he took matters [into his own hands.]"

The pair said Ronald had tried using fences and security cameras to protect his home, but he eventually turned to traps a few years ago.

"We were not in favor of him doing that because he wasn’t used to guns ‐ really, that was not his forte ‐ but he was so frustrated," Lorraine said.

Van Buren, population 2,171, is situated across from Saint-Leonard, New Brunswick, Canada. The town is approximately 320 miles from Portland, Maine.

Hezbollah uses Germany to finance terrorism, weapons purchases – report
[Jpost] The Lebanese terrorist organization Hezbollah uses a center in Berlin as well as other locations across Germany to recruit members and raise funds for terrorism and weapons purchases, according to a report by the Berlin-based Tagesspiegel newspaper.

Hezbollah’s main routes now move from South America to Africa into the EU. Cocaine reaches Germany mainly via the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg.
Tagesspiegel on Saturday published a detailed exposé on how the Lebanese terrorist organization uses Germany for "money generated" illicit activities and those funds are "used for arms purchases and for financing attacks."

According to the article, Hezbollah members "use Germany as a place for drug trafficking, trade in stolen cars and money laundering. The implications of the group for the drug business are well documented."

11 shot in New Orleans French Quarter following Bayou Bowl football game
[Washington Examiner] Narly a dozen people were shot in New Orleans early Sunday morning in the bustling French Quarter, according to police.

The shooting took place around 3:30 a.m. hours after the conclusion of the Bayou Bowl, a football game between Grambling State and Southern University that was played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Authorities originally believed only 10 were injured in the shooting but adjusted the count to 11 after an additional victim brought themselves to the hospital. Two of the victims were reported to have critical injuries.

No arrests have been made for the shooting, but authorities do have one person of interest in custody. It is unclear how many gunmen participated in the shooting or what motivated the violence. New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said authorities were quick to get to the scene because of the increased security at the stadium.

This is the second mass shooting to take place on the weekend of the Bayou Bowl in recent years. A fight between two men in 2016 ended in gunfire that injured nine and killed one.

Belgian carnival drops UNESCO status over anti-Semitic float
It’s important to be clear on what is important to you.
[IsraelTimes] The Belgian city of Aalst near the capital Brussels has pulled its annual carnival from the UNESCO world heritage list, after an uproar from Jewish groups and the EU, the mayor said on Sunday.

The row erupted in March after Mayor Christoph D’Haese defended a deliberately anti-Semitic carnival float depicting puppets of hook-nosed Orthodox Jews with rats sitting on money bags.

The carnival attracts tens of thousands of people over the three days leading to the Catholic holiday of Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. It takes pride in its no-holds barred sense of humor and provocation.

D’Haese on Sunday said he made the decision as he expected UNESCO to strip his city of the designation later this month after both sides failed to find a compromise.

"The citizens of Aalst have suffered grotesque accusations," the mayor said in a blurb sent to TV Oost Nieuws, according to Belga news agency.

"We are neither anti-Semitic nor racist. All those who support this are acting in bad faith. Aalst will always remain the capital of mockery and satire," he said.

Since 2010, the carnival has been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage list, but the Gay Paree-based UN agency said organizers had gone too far.

The head of the Brussels-based Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an Jewish Association said Aalst officials were "jumping before they were pushed," according to a statement.

"Despite the widespread criticism, despite the clear grotesque anti-Semitic imagery, despite the opportunity to at least acknowledge the wrong and hurt caused, the Mayor of Aalst has consistently remained defiant and mocking," said EJA president Rabbi Menachem Margolin.

UNESCO said in March it would be "vigilant and uncompromising regarding such occurrences" and expectations were high that the carnival was to be pulled from the list at a meeting on December 12.

Iranian general: Our missiles are aimed at 21 US bases in the region
[IsraelTimes] Allahnoor Noorollahi declares the Islamic Theocratic Republic prepared to fight its ’greatest enemy,’ recalls Khamenei’s vow to ’raze’ Tel Aviv.

An Iranian general has warned that Iran’s missile arsenals are aimed at 21 American military bases in the Middle East and the country is prepared for "the greatest war against the greatest enemy."

In a November 29 speech, at an event in the southern city of Bushehr commemorating 40 years since the establishment of the Basij paramilitary force, Gen. Allahnoor Noorollahi also said that Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
had the ability to raze Haifa and Tel Aviv to the ground.

Noorollahi serves as a top adviser to the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Officers College. His speech was broadcast on Bushehr TV, and was reported on and translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute.

"Iran is the world’s fourth [strongest] missile power after the US, Russia, and China," he boasted in his comments, which were translated Sunday by the MEMRI watchdog group.

Noorollahi claimed the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
military alliance had purportedly warned that Iran could launch as many as 20,000 missiles per day, but that the number could actually be higher in a future conflict with the United States.

"Unfortunately, some Gulf countries have become a military camp for our enemy. I must say this, 21 of their bases constitute targets for our missiles. NATO itself announced that Iran’s 110 missile bases and launching sites are capable of launching 20,000 missiles per day. This is what the enemy says. They only acknowledge part [of our capability]. When a country reveals not only its underground missile bases but also its missile ’cities’ to the enemy ‐ this reflects readiness and capabilities.

"It means that we have capability to confront the greatest enemy," he added, a reference to the US, which the regime has long characterized as its arch-foe and calls the "Great Satan™."

He said America’s regional allies were not Iran’s enemies, and reiterated the claim by the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei
...the actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
that the Islamic Theocratic Republic was capable of "razing" Tel Aviv and Haifa to the ground.

"Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the region’s countries are neither on our level nor are they our enemies. Our enemy is the [country] that came to Kuwait and built six large bases there. This enemy knows that if it transgresses... We do not want to cause harm to our neighbors unless we are forced to," he said.

What Would a War on the Drug Cartels Look Like?
Here's Kurt
Donald Trump is talking about labeling the Mexican drug cartels that own our failed state neighbor as "terrorist groups," and this is yet another step toward what is increasingly looking to be an inevitable confrontation. They just butchered several American citizens, including kids, which cannot go unanswered. They murder thousands of Americans a year here with their poison, which cannot go unanswered. But are we Americans even able to answer a bunch of pipsqueak thugs anymore? Let’s put aside the question of if we should use our military against Mexico (I discussed it here in 2018, to the consternation of liberals and Fredocon sissies) and look at what might happen if we did escalate.

None of it is good.

It’s not a matter of the prowess of our warriors. Our warriors, unleashed, would lay waste to anything we point them at. But the question is, "Would we ever unleash them? Would we let them do what it takes to achieve the goal of eliminating the cartels?"

Of course not. We haven’t decisively won a real war since World War II (except the Gulf War, unless you accept the arguable premise that it was an early campaign in a still-continuing Iraq conflict). And there’s a reason we don’t win. We don’t truly want to, as demonstrated by our unwillingness to do the hard things required to win. Could you imagine the Democrats siding with America in a war on Mexican drug cartels? If you can, you’re higher than Hoover Biden at a strip club on a Saturday night.

Again, this is not to say whether a war on the Mexican drug cartels is a good or bad idea. Nor is it to say we do not have the combat power to do it ‐ we do. It’s just to say that America is culturally and politically unwilling to do what it takes to win, or to accept the losses that would come with a military campaign against the drug cartels.

...A massive U.S. invasion is unlikely for many reasons, but there would be a temptation to use special ops types to target key cartel personnel and locations. This can be effective in a counterinsurgency, where you are trying to stamp out rebels trying to overthrow the government. But here, the cartels are infiltrated into the government. You can’t kill a few leaders and go home. Mexican society is infected with the gangrene of corruption. A few SEALs smoking some sicarios is a boon to humanity but it doesn’t win the war. More just take over. To cure corruption, you would have to tear down and rebuild Mexican society a la Japan and Germany after World War II. Anybody up for that quagmire? Anyone? Hello?

...The sad fact is that our establishment does not really want to take on the cartels. The failed state next door is a distraction from their real priorities: Ukrainian/Russia tiffs and getting sideways with NATO allies over communist Kurds. Nor do they want to gin up public pressure to take the only action that would devastate the cartels: seriously defending our own border. They want the new voters, they want the cheap labor, and they don’t care how many Mexicans and Americans die to keep them both flowing.

You take cartel money, you are a target. I don't care if the other countries look like a smoking wasteland afterwards. It's not our job to fix them. It is the US job to stop foreign terrorists and invaders from hitting us. No mercy and no quarter.

Don't worry about the economic side, we've tried that for decades without success, but we are really, really, really good at killing people so that's how we should do it. if the cartel's think some other cartel is the one taking them out alls the better.

#14  DV is correct, to a point, but go to Nogales and you will see it is already here. It is difficult but very possible to get the cartels with success. For example, go after the money. Then send in the teams to kill everyone that touched it, to include back tellers and couriers. Id the cartel leadership and kill everyone that supports them, postal workers, trash haulers, bank tellers, maids, etc... These folks will get isolated. Then kill them. Post the target lists of all those that support in the papers giving them three days to stop supporting or they will be killed. This process of isolating from the outside in works.

#17  Does this really merit the all-out war that the deaths of some rich cultists is demanding though ? Isn't the cartel empowered and abetted by entrenched agents and politicos within America, given a place in the world by the increasing liberal madness of hollywood morality and dysfunctional euphoria ? I think Trump has gotten some measure of service from Mexico in terms of border control, it would be good to not jeopardize that in a moment of 'tough guy' aggression. The solution may lie elsewhere ? Bear with me a little, please.

If only America could tighten down the domestic front, work toward ousting libtard democrats and academic outfits from their positions, take back conservative control of society.

I think everything is hanging on the next six years. Trump, and we... all need to use every trick in the book and some outside it to discredit, vilify and screw every God-cursed sodding liberal's career; to take this to physical levels if need be, but encourage a nationalist core of American society, while instructing families themselves to fight the menace of addiction. Not by tried before faggot counseling and 'baby why won't you talk to me' shtick, or 'say no' posters. But openly revolting against legislation that outlaws disciplining children, intrusive nanny state controls, and school and college indoctrination and experimentation in everything from ganja to mushrooms chasing 'out of body experiences', the almost coerced dismantling of christian moral education and nationalist ethos. The drug dealer cannot force you at gunpoint to buy the fucking thing once you don't want it.

The Trump could supplement these efforts by replacing every significant DoJ, FBI, BoP appointee to Americans instead of 'African Americans', 'Arab Americans', 'Asian Americans', globalist demagogues and insane cat lady's bluffing their way through the Bar. But he can't do everything for the people. A lot can be accomplished faster, if young republican supporters are willing to place some blind trust in Trump, and sacrifice some liberties and conveniences to get out there and oppose the Democrats at every turn, HK type disobedience for months, maybe years.

The cartels cannot be starved, like countries. They cannot be nuked or carpet bombed because they're in urban locations. You can send out the green berets against them and off a number of them, but ultimately they are corporations, not a cult or militia alone. They shall always have ready customers and their product always in demand, unless the penalty for distributing/taking the drug itself is maximized by customer States themselves. One long standing solution would be to insulate your youth from their product by measures involving everything from brute coercion to punitive action against such things.

For all these things you need absolute power in conservative hands first. No democratic process or miry checks and balances by compromised legislators over the executive.

But it can be done.

As for the people in the US, you have to go by our legal system. My vote is death for all but the users and they can be flogged publicly to pay their debt.

I have no issue with reducing cartel nations to smoking wastelands, they have more than enough American blood on their hands.

Why people prefer illegal marijuana.
h/t Instapundit
Evanston aldermen on Monday approved directing all sales tax revenue collected from recreational marijuana purchases to a fund that will establish a local reparations program.

Officials say the program will help the city’s black population stay in Evanston while also providing training for jobs and other benefits.

"We can implement funding to directly invest in black Evanston," said Ald. Robin Rue Simmons, 5th Ward, who proposed the reparations bill.

While Evanston officials have voted to permit, tax and appropriate money from recreational marijuana sales, many other suburbs have voted not to allow recreational marijuana dispensaries to open when the businesses become legal next year under state law.

Exactly - and the respective governments are going to get that money if it's the last thing they do, so look for CA in particular to come up with some kind of packaging that will be required for legal weed, and God help you if you can't show that package.

Or put another way - if you think that the War on Drugs was bad before, wait till you see how ugly it gets now that it's legal.

China-Japan-Koreas
The Broken China Model
h/t Instapundit
You see it in the maps. In 2015, 1.4 million Hong Kongers voted in elections in which pro-Beijing candidates swept the city's 18 district councils. Last week, 2.9 million Hong Kongers voted and pro-democracy candidates won every district but one. That is an increase in turnout of more than 100 percent and a stunning rebuke both of Beijing and of chief executive Carrie Lam, who has failed to respond adequately to the demands of the pro-democracy movement that has disrupted Hong Kong for the past six months. Maps of the city once shaded pro-mainland blue are now pro-liberty yellow.

...What is happening in Hong Kong is not isolated. The China model of authoritarian development is damaged and scarred. What seemed as sturdy and invulnerable as a Borg Cube looks more like a fragile and wobbly mobile by Alexander Calder. The regime of Xi Jinping is under economic and political and diplomatic pressure that it is not handling well. This beleaguered combatant in an era of great power competition is more dangerous to the United States than before.

What legitimacy the Communist Party possessed was based on the decades of economic growth inaugurated by Deng Xiaoping in 1978. But growth has slowed to its lowest level in decades as the Chinese workforce ages, low-hanging investment opportunities disappear, and the trade war with the United States reduces manufacturing output and sends supply lines to Vietnam and Mexico. Capital is fleeing China at a record pace as the bourgeoisie hedge against stagnation and turmoil.

...The resistance to Beijing is both domestic and foreign. Lost in all the predictions of Chinese dominance were the voices of China's neighbors in the Pacific. Neither Japan, nor Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines, nor Australia want to live in a Chinese lake. Most extraordinary has been the response of the United States. Within four years, the American elite has swapped its belief in China's "peaceful rise" for the recognition that it may be in the opening phase of a Second Cold War whose outcome will determine the ideological character of the 21st century. While Tariff Man wages his trade war, opposing Chinese theft of intellectual property and arguing for structural changes to China's state owned enterprises, Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper speak of the political and security challenges presented by Chinese authoritarians who become more willing to lash out as they lose their grip.
Ever wondered how much of the "resistance" is funded with Chinese money?

Dutch police: No sign of terror motive in Hague stabbings
[IsraelTimes] Dutch police say on Sunday they have found no indications of a terrorist motive after arresting a homeless man for stabbing three teenagers in The Hague.
Left unanswered is whether he was a native Dutch homeless man or a homeless colonist, Moslem or otherwise.
The 35-year-old man was detained on Saturday after the assault, which happened as shoppers hunted Black Friday bargains in the city’s main commercial street.

"The precise circumstances of the stabbing incident are still unclear. No indications have yet been found to show that there was a terrorist motive," police say on Twitter.

"The motive for the stabbing incident is still being investigated."

Police say the suspect had no fixed abode and was "arrested at a homeless shelter in the center of The Hague" before being taken to a cop shoppe for questioning.

They had previously said they were investigating "several scenarios."

Over 20 US military vehicles enter Syria from Iraq
[ALMASDARNEWS] Syrian state television

reported on Saturday that several U.S. military vehicles had entered northeastern Syria from Iraq’s northwestern border.

According to Syrian TV, the U.S. military convoy consisted of more than 20 trucks that first entered Syria’s al-Hasakah Governorate from Iraq’s Nineveh (var. Ninawa) Governorate.

They pointed out that the U.S. military convoy was transporting new equipment to the coalition troops that were deployed to the oil rich region of Syria’s Deir Ezzor Governorate.

Earlier in the week, some 60 military vehicles belonging to U.S. forces arrived at the Rmeilan Oil Fields in the al-Hasakah Governorate; they have reportedly remained there to ’protect’ the site.

Fazl reiterates demand for new elections, warns govt of serious consequences Listen
[The News (Pak)] Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...the political wing of the Pak Taliban...
-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
...Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty...
on Sunday reiterated the demand for new elections and warned the government that if it turned down his demands, it would have to deal with harsh circumstances.

Fazl was addressing a presser where he lashed out at the government.

"Our economy is in its worst condition," he said. "Unemployment is on the rise and people have lost the power to spend."

Fazl said that institutions had lost their ability to produce. He said that the business community was concerned while hundreds of thousands were becoming unemployed.

The JUI-F chief said that elections were the only way forward for the country.

"New elections must be held across the country," he said. "Our protests in certain areas of the country is going on."

Fazl criticised Prime Minister Imran and said that the government was a mafia.

"He [Prime Minister Imran] refers to others as a mafia whereas he and others are a mafia themselves," he said.

He said that the Azadi March had united the entire country and brought it on one common platform. Fazl was of the view that the incumbent government was an inept one and that Pakistain needed a strong political system.

"The Azadi March was a historic event. Its effects are still being felt in Pak politics," said Fazl.

The JUI-F chief said that his party had decided to be the spokesperson of the poor in the country.

Fazl said that Pakistain's foreign policy had performed poorly and as a result, Pakistain stood alone in the world.

"Our friends are even not willing to stand with us," he said.

Britain
Usman Khan came to UK security services' attention at age of 15 for hate-preaching
[The News (Pak)] British media said Sunday the London Bridge attacker, Usman Khan, was a known krazed killer who preached hate with ISIS and al-Muhajiroun
...formerly Omar Bakri Muhammad's spin off group from Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain, where the detestable lunatic Anjem Chaudry got his start. More recently the name adopted by al-Qaeda in East Africa for operations in Kenya and Tanzania. It is subordinate to al-Shabaab but will probably be strong enough to fly on its own, given an uninterrupted flow of petrodollars, should the Shaboobs collapse....
flags on the streets of Stoke-on-Trent.

UK media also highlighted that Khan had come to the British security services' attention at the age of 15 but that no action had been taken by the authorities to discourage his hate-preaching.

In further confirmation of the fact that Usman Khan had no relation of any kind with Pakistain as far his extremism is concerned, British media and commentators have condemned UK’s counter-terrorism approach and jail system.

It has been now confirmed that Khan was a close friend and student of Anjem Chaudary, a convicted krazed killer preacher. After the London Bridge attacker was arrested with his Bangladeshi and Indian terror associates in 2010 in relation to the gang’s London bombings, Anjum Chaudhary described him as his "student" and "friend".

Media further wrote that Khan was bullied at school over his facial hair and suffered exclusion and racism when he was a child. The son of a hard-working taxi driver, he attended Haywood High School in Burslem, Stoke, but dropped out without any qualifications.

Local media also added that Khan desperately tried to fit in by wearing designer clothes and be liked at school by keeping up with the latest fashion but had no confidence and would never speak up. He had started growing beard at an early age.

Investigators believe that his parents, who came to the UK from Azad Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, were moderate people and had no relation with either terrorism or the krazed killer views of their oddball son.

Iraqi protesters set fire to Iranian consulate in Najaf. Again.
[ALMASDARNEWS] Iraqi protesters have set fire to the Iranian consulate in the city of Najaf, marking the second time in a week that this has happened at this diplomatic mission.

The Directorate of Civil Defense in the province of Najaf confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the consulate was on fire and that firefighting units were attempting to extinguish the flames.

First reports about this incident were spread on social networking sites, as they circulated photos and videos showing a group of protesters set alight the consulate for the second time in a week.

The Iranian consulate in neighboring Karbala was burned earlier this month by angry protesters who called for curbing Iran’s growing influence in Iraq.

“Mother of All Bombs” Caused Illness, Ruined Farmland: Residents
“Look at us suffer! Now pay us the big moneys, O America.”
[ToloNews] In April 2017 the US Air Force dropped its most powerful non-nuclear bomb onto a ISIS stronghold in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
Almost two and a half years after the United States dropped the "mother of all bombs" onto a ISIS hideout in eastern Afghanistan, locals say they have been afflicted by "many diseases" and agricultural lands are not yielding crops.
Would you rather have ISIS still lording over you, guys, taking your daughters as wives and your sons as soldiers, not to mention all your stuff, and forced you to live by their stupid rules?
TOLOnews news hound Abdulhaq Omeri interviewed residents of Mohmand Dara village, in the Achin district in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

Unidentified drone enters northern Israel from Lebanon
Hizb’allah boys playing with their toys again.
[ALMASDARNEWS] An unidentified drone briefly entered the Upper Galilee region from southern Leb on Saturday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said.

According to the IDF statement, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) entered northern Israel for a brief time before making its way back to Leb.

The IDF statement did not state who the drone belonged to, nor did they specify if the UAV was a military or civilian aircraft.

The Lebanese Ministry of Defense has not commented on these claims from the Israeli Defense Forces.

While Lebanese aircrafts rarely enter Israeli territory, the IDF warplanes enter Lebanese airspace on a daily basis.

These constant airspace violations has resulted in several complaints from the Lebanese military to the UNIFIL personnel along the country’s southern border.

FNC’s Juan Williams: Trump’s Afghanistan Trip Looked Like a ‘Photo-Op’
[BREITBART] On this week’s broadcast of "Fox News Sunday," panelist Juan Williams said President Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
’s Thanksgiving trip to visit U.S. troops in Afghanistan looked like a "photo-op."
Sure did. And Bush's turkey when he visited the troops in Iraq was plastic. You could look it up.
Williams said, “The other part of the political spin is that with Trump, it seemed —and I think this is why you had the thought, I certainly had it, it looks like a photo op. Remember, he hadn't gone to visit any war zone until last year. He was criticized for it. This is his first visit to Afghanistan, our longest war, 2,000 plus Americans dead. He had no preparation. He e talked about a cease-fire, but his military people said we know nothing about any cease-fire with the Taliban, and the Taliban said they know nothing about a cease-fire.”

“He then talked about negotiations with the Taliban, and again, his own diplomats said we know nothing about any ongoing talks with the Taliban,” he added. “The president canceled talks with the Taliban last September if you’ll recall after they were engaged in a violent incident.”

Slow Joe's story time. Go ahead, tell me he isn't a weirdo
[WashingtonExaminer] Joe Biden left many Twitter users queasy after a clip from the campaign trail showed him discussing children playing with his leg hair.

During the campaign speech, Biden, 77, described how little kids used to play with his blond leg hairs in the swimming pool while telling a story about his time working as a lifeguard.

"By the way, you know I sit on the stand and it’d get hot. I got a lot of ‐ I got hairy legs that turn blonde in the sun," Biden said. "And the kids used to come up and reach in the pool and rub my leg down so it was straight and then watch the hair come back up again."

He concluded his tale by saying, "I love kids jumping on my lap."

The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
forces announced on Saturday that they have shot down an unmanned drone over northern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
just a day after claiming to bring down a Saudi Apache helicopter, Yahya Sarea, the group’s military front man, said on Saturday.

"Yemeni air defenses were able to shoot down a Chinese-made Wing Loong fighter reconnaissance aircraft in the Hiran district of Hajjah province this evening during hostilities", Sarea said in a post in Twitter.

Sarea added that the operation was caught on tape and that footage will be published shortly.

Earlier in the day, Yemeni news outlet Almasirah released footage it said showed the Saudi Apache military helicopter shot down on Friday. Sarea on Friday said that two crew members on board the helicopter died.

The purported spike in hostilities comes after a week which saw peace overtures from the Saudi-led coalition. A statement by the Saudi defence ministry on Tuesday announced the release of 200 Houthi captives from its prisons and the reopening of the airport in Yemen’s capital Sanaa for medical patients.

#12  "NEW DELHI — The first interloper stepped in front of her on the sidewalk and silently held up his hand. The second appeared behind her and beckoned for her bag. Maeve O’Connor was trapped.

Resistance would have been dangerous, so Ms. O’Connor handed it over. The two then sauntered arrogantly away. The whole encounter lasted no more than 15 seconds — just one more coordinated mugging by rhesus monkeys in a city increasingly plagued by them.

“I had other bags with me, but they knew the bag that had the fresh bread in it,” Ms. O’Connor said.

“They were totally silent, very quick and highly effective.”

The monkey population of Delhi has grown so large and aggressive that overwhelmed city officials have petitioned India’s Supreme Court to relieve them of the task of monkey control.

“We have trapped 13,013 monkeys since 2007,” said R. B. S. Tyagi, director of veterinary services for Delhi’s principal city government. Nonetheless, Delhi’s monkey population has only increased. The reason is simple: People feed them. Monkeys are the living representatives of the cherished Hindu god Hanuman, and Hindu tradition calls for feeding monkeys on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Dr. Tyagi expressed impatience with residents who feed the monkeys one day, then complain to the city when the monkeys steal their clothes on another day.

Dr. Tyagi’s agency has asked the city’s wildlife agency for help, but wildlife officials claim that the monkeys — a scourge of the city for years as urbanization has encroached on their original habitat — are no longer wild and are thus not their responsibility.

“This problem will never be solved” as long as Hindus feed monkeys regularly, said R. M. Shukla, the city’s chief wildlife warden. “We’ve issued many ads asking people not to feed monkeys in public places.”

In 2007, a Delhi deputy mayor died when he fell from his terrace after being attacked by monkeys, a widely publicized episode that spurred the city to step up its efforts to move monkeys to safer environments. Yet such attacks continue. This month a 14-year-old girl was seriously injured when she fell from the roof of a five-story residential building after monkeys pursued her.

“Monkeys do commonly bite people, and their bite wounds can be extensive,” Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Bethesda, Md., wrote in an e-mail. “They are smart enough to often attack the face of the person.” While monkey bites can lead to rabies or a fatal form of the herpes virus, documented cases are “close to nonexistent,” Dr. Fauci wrote. Skin bacterial infections from bites are common, however. They are treatable with antibiotics. Stories abound in Delhi of monkeys’ entering homes, ripping out wiring, stealing clothes and biting those who surprise them. They treat the Indian Parliament building as a playground, have invaded the prime minister’s office and Defense Ministry, sometimes ride buses and subway trains, and chase diplomats from their well-tended gardens.

Roopi Saran, a Delhi resident, has seen monkeys steal candy from the hands of her children. And tribes of monkeys often take over her yard, preventing her and her children from venturing outside."

#13  Road Song of the Bandar-Log
R. Kipling

Here we go in a flung festoon,
Half-way up to the jealous moon!
Don’t you envy our pranceful bands?
Don’t you wish you had extra hands?
Wouldn’t you like if your tails were–so–
Curved in the shape of a Cupid’s bow?
Now you’re angry, but–never mind,
Brother, thy tail hangs down behind!

Here we sit in a branchy row,
Thinking of beautiful things we know;
Dreaming of deeds that we mean to do,
All complete, in a minute or two–
Something noble and wise and good,
Done by merely wishing we could.
We’ve forgotten, but–never mind,
Brother, thy tail hangs down behind!

All the talk we ever have heard
Uttered by bat or beast or bird–
Hide or fin or scale or feather–
Jabber it quickly and all together!
Excellent! Wonderful! Once again!

Now we are talking just like men!
Let’s pretend we are ... never mind,
Brother, thy tail hangs down behind!
This is the way of the Monkey-kind.

Then join our leaping lines that scumfish through the pines,
That rocket by where, light and high, the wild grape swings.
By the rubbish in our wake, and the noble noise we make,
Be sure, be sure, we’re going to do some splendid things!

#14  Are they using China's human face scan ID software?
(Just curious if the same software works for both.)

You could. One of the hot new things in Artificial Intelligence is Transfer Learning. Basically, you take a neural network that is trained on one problem domain, like classifying pix of dogs vs cats, and use it as the basis for a second classification network. The idea is that the lower layers of the neural network have already learned to identify basic features and therefore need less training.

Given that Chinamen look alike and monkeys look alike, this should totally work.
(Oh, stop it! I've had multiple Asian friends (Japanese, Korean and Chinese) confess that when they first came to America, they thought all white people looked alike. This has more to do with limited sample size than racism. With more samples, your brainal network learns better recognition skills)

Seriously, since we are talking about recognizing primate faces (you took biology, right?), the problems are similar.

Democratic congresswoman says it doesn’t matter if Trump quid pro quo didn’t happen
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] Florida Rep. Val Demings maintained that President Trump should be impeached even if the alleged quid pro quo with Ukraine never took place.

Demings, a Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, was asked during an interview on This Week whether it was relevant to the impeachment proceedings that Trump’s request for an investigation into Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Failed seeker of the Democratic presidential nomination on multiple occasions, vice president under Barack Obama, giving it a last try in his dotage for 2020...
never came to fruition. Host Martha Raddatz noted that no investigation into the Bidens ever happened and Ukraine received its military aid anyway, but Demings maintained that it was irrelevant.

"You’re going to make me go back to my law enforcement experience. I had an opportunity in 27 years to deal with a lot of people who attempted to rob a bank, attempted to burglarize a house, attempted to carjack an individual," Demings said. BoJo reveals 74 other criminals released on similar charges to London Bridge attacker, incl. 6 of Khan’s buddies, terror checks intensified
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] Prime Minister Boris Johnson
...pro-Brexit British prime minister, succeeding no-Brexit Theresa May. BoJo is noted as much for his sparkling personality and his hair as for his Conservative policies....
announced that 74 additional criminals with terrorist ties were released from prison under the system that freed the man responsible for the attack on London Bridge.

Usman Khan, the 28-year-old terrorist who killed two people before being thwarted by bystanders with a narwhal tusk and a fire extinguisher, had been in prison prior to the attack for terror-related offenses. He had been released from prison "on license" as part of an early release program. Khan had plotted an attack on the London Stock Exchange in 2012 when he was imprisoned the first time. He was only halfway through his prison sentence and was not referred to a parole board.

Johnson claimed that Khan’s release was the fault of the left-leaning Labour Party because they had overhauled a statute, the Extended Sentence for Public Protection, allowing murderous Moslems to be held for an extended sentence until a parole board reviewed the case and agreed to release the individual. The Labour Party had overturned part of the EPP that required a parole board review, meaning Khan was freed after 8 years without any type of formal review by the board.

Six of London Bridge terrorist Usman Khan's fellow Stock Exhange bomb plotters have also been freed from prison since 2012 - and another was freed only to be re-jailed after plotting another attack
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • The nine jihadists who were jailed in 2012 were part of an al-Qaeda-inspired cell

  • Members of the Al Qaeda-inspired gang who plotted to blow up the London Stock Exchange and kill Boris Johnson and several rabbis: Mohammed Moksudur Chowdhury, Mohammed Shahjahan, Shah Mohammed Rahman, Mohibur Rahman, Gurukanth Desai, Abdul Malik Miah, Nazam Hussain, Usman Khan, Omar Sharif Latif

  • One is still in prison (Choudhury) and another (Mohibur Rahman) was convicted over a further Lee Rigby-style terror plot in 2017

  • Khan is dead, meaning six of the plotters are believed to be still on the streets

  • They were sentenced under 2003 law, which required those given extended sentences be released at the midway point.

Terror Checks Intensified as London Attack Enters Election Fray
[AnNahar] Britannia's Boris Johnson
...pro-Brexit British prime minister, succeeding no-Brexit Theresa May. BoJo is noted as much for his sparkling personality and his hair as for his Conservative policies....
said Sunday the security services were stepping up monitoring of convicted faceless myrmidons released early from prison, as the London Bridge attack became embroiled in the election campaign.

The prime minister revealed around 74 people with terrorist convictions had been released early from prison in a similar way to Usman Kan, who left jail last December and went on to stab two people to death in Friday's rampage.

"They are being properly invigilated to make sure there is no threat," Johnson told the BBC in an interview.

"We've taken a lot of action as you can imagine in the last 48 hours," he said, adding he would not provide "operation details."

Klobuchar: Voters Don’t Want to Watch Trump on TV -- ‘They Have to Turn the Volume Down’
[BREITBART] On Sunday’s broadcast of NBC’s "Meet the Press," 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Amy Klobuchar
Senatrix from Minnesota, candidate for the Dem presidential 2020 nomination. You can tell the kind of husband a boy will make by the way he treats his mother. You can tell the kind of leader a politician will make by the way he treats his staff. Klobuchar is reportedly overbearing, snide, and dictatorial with her people. She see this as merely getting the best from them. Her name spelled backward in the Russian alphabet would be "Rachubolk," which sounds pretty daggone suspicious...
(D-MN) argued voters will not want to watch President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
on television throughout possible impeachment proceedings.

When asked if impeachment will hurt Democrats at the polls, Klobuchar said, "My evidence is what just happened when we took back the Virginia State House and State Senate in the middle of all of this because the voters were looking at that, yes, this is a patriotism check. This is a values check. There are people that don’t even want to have to watch the president on TV anymore."

"They have to turn the volume down on their TV," she continued. "It is also an economic check. Six Questions Considering the Dragonbear
[Twitter-Medium]

1). How would you describe the relationship between China and Russia? Some say strategic alliance; some say marriage of convenience… What would you call it and how did you coin the term Dragonbear?

2). At what point do you feel the Chinese and Russian relationship shifted from competition to “friendship”? Have they overcome their historical hostilities?

3). Many analysts characterize Russia as the junior partner in this partnership, others say it’s symbiotic in that Moscow brings the muscle and Beijing brings the money, how would you address the dynamics?

4). To what extent does pushing back against what both Russia and China have described as a US-led world order and motivation for a multipolar scene motivate their relationship? Can they succeed in challenging Washington’s global hegemony?

5) Do you foresee this relationship blossoming in the near future? Will economic agreements match their military cooperation? Could there ever be a defensive alliance between these two powers, are they doomed to compete or is the status quo acceptable on both ends?

6). Europe is in a difficult spot, facing internal crises and a US that doesn’t necessarily share the same values. Do you see the Belt and Road Initiative and Eurasian Economic Union developing into an enticing alternative? Can the US undermine this and how?

3) Money
4) Money
5) Money
6) Money

Really, it's all about the money, when it stop being about the money, their relationship will change.

One exception, when one side or another get too greedy, then the relationship will change anyway and not in a good way.

Given their past histories, someone will get greedy...

SDF agrees to allow Russian troops to enter several areas in Raqqa, Hasakah
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have agreed to allow Russian forces operating in Syria to deploy their troops in more areas in the al-Hasakah and al-Raqqa governorates, weeks after a Russian agreement with the SDF on the deployment of their troops along the border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, published on Twitter, "We were honored today to host the commander of the Russian forces operating in Syria, General Alexander Tshaiko. It was a very productive meeting, and we agreed to the deployment of Russian forces in both Amuda and Tal Tamr. We look forward to further joint efforts in the interest of our two countries."

On October 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
and his Ottoman Turkish counterpart signed a memorandum of understanding to end a very tense situation along the Syrian-Ottoman Turkish border.

The two sides agreed on several points in Syria, most notably the withdrawal of the YPG to a depth of 30 kilometers from the border.

The agreement included joint Russian-Ottoman Turkish patrols in northern Syria within 10 km of the border and the deployment of Syrian border guards and Russian military police on the border with Turkey.

Catholic diocese denies Holy Communion to gay Michigan judge
[FOX40] A church in Michigan denied Holy Communion to a state district court judge because she is married to a woman.

Judge Sara Smolenski, the chief judge of Michigan’s 63rd District Court, received a call from the priest at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, requesting she not attend communion.

"This is not about me against the priest, and it’s not really me against the church," Smolenski told CNN. "This feels like selective discrimination. Why choose gay people, and why now?"

Smolenski, 62, said that the Rev. Scott Nolan, the priest at St. Stephen for approximately three years, called her on November 23 and told her, "’It was good to see you in church on Sunday. Because you and Linda are married in the state of Michigan, I’d like you to respect the church and not come to communion.'"

Smolenski was baptized at St. Stephen. She and her nine siblings attended the church’s school from first through eighth grade. Her parents were married in the church in the 1940s.

Communion is a significant and sacred act in Catholicism. Through this sacrament, Catholics unite with Christ and symbolically form a single body, according to Catechism of the Catholic Church on the Vatican’s website. To be denied communion is essentially to be denied one’s right to the holiness of Catholicism.

Newsweek Fires Anti-Trump Reporter Behind False Thanksgiving Story
[PJMEDIA] Until today, Jessica Kwong was a political news hound for Newsweek. More specifically, it was her job to keep an eye on the Trump administration, the Trump family, and the 2020 race for president. This week, however, she was fired. The reason? On Thanksgiving Day, she published an article in which she claimed that the president and first lady planned to spend the holiday golfing, tweeting, "and more" some such. Sadly for her, President Trump secretly flew to Afghanistan, where he met the troops (and served them turkey).

After President Trump had landed, pro-Trump Twitter users rightfully went after her. One of her fiercest critics was First Son Donald Trump
...the Nailer of NAFTA...
Jr. "The President spends his Thanksgiving with American troops deployed in Afghanistan, including serving them lunch," he wrote on Twitter. "Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, another bullet hole appeared in Butch's hat......

#3  I have never understood the concepts that birthed a hatred for Jews as a people in the first place. It all seems to boil down to this thought pattern.

  • They are industrious and 'too inventive'.

  • They are snooty. The Jews think they are better'n us.

  • Somehow they get by even when we are fucking starving. Over that, they've the nerve to lend us money !

  • They may've killed the Christ ! Whom we do not give a hoot for anyway. But the pope says they killed the Christ. And the pope we love !

  • They are smarter. Or think they are ! Waving those nobels in our goggle eyed faces...

  • Their very existence 'traumatizes' the fuzzy islamic sasquatch we must force ourselves to love.

  • Basically it's the hatred that Cain felt, unofficially doctrinized and propagated as a worldview. And hence they all bear the mark of Cain, they ride the tiger to their bitter ends, starting cycles of sevenfold vengeance wherever they go, wars and desolation...

The people who hate Jews are basically haters of Israel. And as I said before, someone who hates Israel is cosmically fucked, his/her fuckedness is like foreordained.

#6  I believe that if you are guilty of the infraction that earned the original guy the punishment, you can bet you're getting the same punishment he got. Not just that. You are him.

Like the Christian is the seed promised to Abraham in Spirit, every man who murders his fellow man for envy or hates him with a deadly hatred is the same Cain in Spirit. It follows that the very envy in a man's mind is as good as the mark that it earns.

But that's just what I believe.

'For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.'

India-Pakistan
‘Pervez Musharraf is our benefactor,’ says Fawad Chaudhry Listen
[The News (Pak)] Federal Minister for Science & Technology Fawad Chaudhry said former president General (retired) Pervez Perv Musharraf
...former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date...
was the nation's benefactor.

"Pervez Musharraf has rid us of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif
...served two three non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
in 1999 that's why, he is our benefactor," said the federal minister, addressing a ceremony in Jhelum.

Responding to a question about the PML-N chief's return to Pakistain, the minister was of the view, "Even Nawaz Sharif's family has no hope of his homecoming."

"When Pervez Musharraf was in power, a lot of people used to stand queuing up to light his cigar," he pointed out.

Chaudhry said all the political parties are unanimous on extension to Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa's tenure, hoping the relevant legislation would be completed in the next parliamentary session.

On November 19, an Islamabad special court reserved the order in high treason case against the former president to be announced on November 28. Musharraf and the federal interior ministry filed an application against the reservation of the verdict.

The Lahore High Court had declared the petition of the former president as maintainable on Tuesday while overruling the LHC registrar's objections. Musharraf in his petition said that the Special Court has reserved judgment in the case on November 19 without hearing his stance.

He also questioned formation of the Special Court, saying that the then prime minister alone granted approval for the constitution of the Special Court and the cabinet's sanction was not sought.

A three-judge IHC bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah had set aside the November 19 order of the Special Court and instructed it to hear all sides before deciding the case.

Castro interjected, "I think, for whatever reason, on the other side of the aisle, on the Republican side of the aisle, people get off on that. They like ‐ I mean, look at Trump at the debates in 2016. There’s a certain element within that base that seems to love it when people are cruel to one another. And I don’t know why that is. You know, I don’t think that that’s the ‐ all of the people in that party or that side of the aisle by any means but, clearly, Trump has built up his political record and reputation, and this administration has continued a record of cruelty toward migrants colonists, toward people who are poor, and there’s a certain amount of that base that seems to love it."

"And, you know, I don’t understand it," he continued. "But I can say that we’re going to move in a completely different direction where we build an America that’s not based on cruelty. That’s based on compassion and common sense. That’s the kind of country that we need."

Impeachment set to leave Buttigieg as only top-tier 2020 Democrat campaigning full time
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] The end of Pete Buttigieg

From 2009 to 2017 Buttigieg served as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve, attaining the rank of lieutenant and deploying to Afghanistan in 2014. Buttigieg was first elected mayor of South Bend in 2011 and was reelected in 2015. During his second term, he announced he was gay. Buttigieg also campaigned for Indiana state treasurer in 2010 and for chair of the Democratic National Committee in 2017, losing both elections. He is running for the Dem nomination in 2020 on the theory that being mayor of a nondescript medium sized city is qualification to run the country...

Nuclear Winter: San Francisco ties cold record as Bay Area freezes
[MSN] If you thought Thanksgiving Day was unusually cold this year in the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
, you were correct. In fact, it tied a century-old record.

The high temperature in the city on Thursday was forty-eight degrees. That tied a record high temperature for the coldest date for San Francisco in the month of November. That record had stood unchallenged since November 27th, 1896, when it last happened.

According to the National Weather Service, the coldest high-temperature day ever in San Francisco was a freezing thirty-five degrees on December 11th, 1932. That day also holds the distinction for the coldest record low temperature ever recorded in the city, which is twenty-seven degrees.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Two IS supporters planned Independence Day terror attacks in Jerusalem
[IsraelTimes] The men, both residents of East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber, attempted to join jihadist group’s Sinai branch earlier this year.

Two Paleostinian men were indicted Sunday for planning a terror attack targeting Israeli revelers during the nation’s upcoming Independence Day in April.

The two, 21-year-old Ahmad Ja’abis and 19-year-old Basel Abidat, are residents of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber.

According to the indictment filed by Jerusalem prosecutors, they became interested in the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
terror group in 2016, studied bomb-making and rocket construction online, and tried to join the organization’s "Sinai Province" branch in Egypt earlier this year.

Abidat attempted to cross into Sinai through Jordan in June, but was stopped by Jordanian border police, the indictment said.

Ja’abis, meanwhile, raised NIS 2,000 ($576) for IS and sent it to the group through an unnamed third party.

In September, with their attempts to join IS in Sinai stymied, the two discussed ways to carry out terror attacks against Israelis instead.

They considered shooting attacks at popular public venues on Independence Day, such as Jerusalem’s Safra Square and Sultan’s Pool, or more limited stabbing attacks if they failed to obtain firearms. They also discussed a shooting attack against a military base in the Jordan Valley. Independence Day 2020 begins on the evening of April 28.

The attacks, the indictment charges, were intended "to kill as many Jews as possible in the name of ISIS [IS]."

The two are charged with membership in a terror organization and planning terror attacks.

Only a few dozen of Israel’s roughly 1.56 million Arab citizens and permanent residents have joined the ranks of Islamic State since it declared its self-styled "caliphate" in 2014, according to the Shin Bet security service. Most were either killed in action or have since returned to Israel and been arrested.

On July 31, one Arab Israeli, Sayyaf Sharif Daoud, was interviewed on Al Arabiya asking Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to work to repatriate him from a Syrian prison.

In April, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri moved to strip another IS fighter of his Israeli citizenship for traveling to Syria to join the group six years earlier. Deri instructed ministry officials to take action in absentia against Abdallah Hajleh at the recommendation of the Shin Bet.

#1  From Allahpundit (Yeah, I know):

The first witness they’ll attempt to call is Adam Schiff. The wrinkle in Doug Collins’s plan is that the rules passed by the House for the Judiciary phase of the impeachment process are similar to the rules for the phase that was conducted by Schiff’s committee. Nothing happens without Democratic approval:

(c) (1) The ranking minority member of the Committee on the Judiciary is authorized, with the concurrence of the chair of the Committee on the Judiciary, to require, as deemed necessary to the investigation—

It's a nice thought, but the game is rigged.

Either Doug Collins doesn't know this, or he's doing the standard GOPe "get the rubes' hopes up" routine.

Islamist Militants Hack to Death 12-Year-Old Christian Boy in Cameroon
[BREITBART] Jihadists from the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
terror group hacked to death a 12-year-old boy with machetes for his refusal to become a "child soldier" of the group.

Although news of the slaughter has only just reached the west, the holy warriors are believed to have kidnapped the Christian schoolboy in a raid on the northern Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
district of Tourou on or around November 19.

The boy and his mother reportedly beat feet from their home as the holy warriors began their raid on the village, going door to door looting homes of anything of value, including clothes and bedding. The jihadists eventually caught up with the boy, killing him after hearing of his unwillingness to join their army. Members of the jihadist group frequently abduct male children and oblige them to train as soldiers.

Boko Haram has been intensifying assaults on Christian villages in the far north of Cameroon in an effort to extend a west African Islamic caliphate from north-eastern Nigeria all the way to northern Cameroon.

In early November, Boko Haram holy warriors killed retired Christian pastor David Mokoni along with a hearing-impaired Christian boy during an attack on a church in Moskota, in northern Cameroon. A few days earlier, Islamic holy warriors split the skull of a 15-year-old Christian boy with an axe as he slept in Kotserehé village.

A member of the village’s vigilance committee said the attackers came to the village on October 31 "armed with machetes, axes, knives, and clubs, and cut out anyone they met on their way," adding that "they were literally chopped up by their executioners."

According to United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
estimates, more than 170,000 Cameroonians, mostly Christians, have been driven from their homes by Boko Haram.

GOP Sen. Kennedy: Impeachment Probe ‘as Rigged as a Carnival Ring Toss’
[BREITBART] On Sunday’s broadcast of NBC’s "Meet the Press," Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said the House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
was "as rigged as a carnival ring toss."

Kennedy said, "Rounds one and two by Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Adam Schiff
...Showboating U.S. Representative for California's 28th congressional district since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, Schiff has served in Congress since 2001. He currently serves as the chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. In a manner reminiscent of Joe McCarthy, on March 22, 2017, in a interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC Schiff claimed there was “more than circumstantial evidence now” that Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Russia." Todd followed up by asking if he had seen direct evidence of collusion and Schiff responded that there was "evidence that is not circumstantial and is very much worthy of investigation...
are as rigged as a carnival ring toss, and we both know that."

He added, "Have they allowed the president to call his own witnesses? No. Have they allowed him to have his lawyer present? No. Have they allowed him to offer rebuttal evidence? No. Have they allowed him to cross-examine the witnesses that were hand-picked by Speaker Pelosi? No. Whether you like the president or don’t, we both I know agree with due process. Nobody is above the law, but nobody is beneath the law. The Bill of Rights is not an a la carte menu."

Britain
London Bridge attacker had no link with Pakistan. Really.
[The News (Pak)] Indian media has published fake news to link the London Bridge attacker Usman Khan with Pakistain but the fact is Usman Khan had no connection with Pakistain as far as his Death Eater radicalisation, terror conviction and his abhorrent acts are concerned.

Indian media outlets have said that Usman Khan, the terror suspect rubbed out in the November 30, 2019 terror attack near London Bridge, was born in Pakistain but that is a lie and an attempt to malign Pakistain.

This correspondent has attended some parts of Usman Khan’s terror trial at the Woolwich Crown Court in 2012 when he was convicted of terrorism charges with eight others for planning to bomb London Stock Exchange.

Unlike false reports published in Indian media, it became evident during the trial at Woolwich Crown Court that Usman Khan had no relation of any kind with Pakistain or Azad Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, birthplace of his parents. The trial had heard from the counter-terrorism police experts that while Usman Khan discussed setting up a training camp for Jihadi training in Azad Kashmir, that plan never materialised. The evidence submitted before the court had established that there was no involvement of anyone from Pakistain in the nefarious plans that Usman Khan and his terrorism associates were making.

China-Japan-Koreas
Keeping Up With The Jingpings
[The Gold Institute for International Strategy] With our Mid-East policy in disarray, China and Russia have not missed a beat and are stepping in to fill the gaps. It is clear the intention of their advances in technological research and development (R&D), military and otherwise, is to surpass the U.S.’s global distribution and ultimately become the dominant player in this area. As recently as May 2019, it has been reported that U.S. allies in the region have been meeting with the Chinese to become a Cyber hub for their Belt and Road Initiative.

While President Trump has been engaging China on trade talks, Xi Jinping has continued the largest military buildup of the last hundred years. On October 1st China’s military exhibited to the public much of their high-tech weaponry, of which about half have never been seen before, leading many to question what they are not showing.

With Russia's hypersonic weapons and China’s cyber and space capabilities, it is no longer enough to keep up with the Jinpings, but rather is the time for the U.S. to step up and leave these questionable characters in our technological rearview mirrors. One such opportunity for the U.S. to take a significant step forward is with the upcoming merger of Raytheon Co (RTN) and United Technologies Corp (UTX). The mergers of such companies would create innovation powerhouses that would not only place the U.S. on track but give the necessary bandwidth to surpass competing nations in relatively short form.

In 1889 the commissioner of the U.S. patent office, Charles H. Duell, was widely quoted as saying, "Everything that can be invented has been invented," something that in 2019 we know is farthest from the truth. The race for technological advances within the defense sector has a far greater impact than in any other sector. In an age where there is a renewed weapons race between the U.S. and its adversaries, mergers like this one between Raytheon and United Technologies become ever more significant.

Just recently, a Saudi oil field was attacked by 18 drones allegedly from Iran. No longer are attacks of this precision that have global ramifications only able to come from superpowers like the U.S. or Russia or China, but also now by rather small countries like Iran.

China has emerged as a global science and technology leader, with strong funding in research and development (R&D), which from 2000 ‐ 2016 has risen to almost 25.1% in global R&D. Russia is leading the race in hypersonic technologies, something that the United States has yet to be able to defend against, and Iran has placed a great deal of their efforts in weaponizing Cyber and EMP. The U.S. is currently in catch up mode.

With every passing day, month and year, our weapon systems and those of our adversaries become more and more advanced and our systems more antiquated. Just recently, it was reported that Strategic Automated Command and Control Systems (CACCS), the communications system that controls the U.S. nuclear program would no longer use 8inch floppy disks. Arguably our most important weapons program is using a system that was created 50 years ago when the Oldsmobile Cutlass was the bestselling American car.

With the 21st century weapons race well underway and insufficient to keep up with the Jinpings technologically, we must also surpass the Jinpings in research and development (R&D).

#4  The Skunkworks lads delivered innovation unfettered to your military and spooks free from administrative buffoonery for years.

In my opinion, fancy tech alone does not win battles. Resolve and willingness to descend to levels of crazy does. Partly the reason the west has been stumbling indecisively in the mid-east for so long.

As for the chinks, their only war xp for decades has been smashing in tibetan monk skulls with Norinco56 butts and sneaking into neighbours' backyards to build plastic sheds. China's advantage over the west will never be fancy weapons of war.

If there is any advantage on their side it's the west's unreasonable adherence to some faux-altruistic tenet of propriety in combat, rules of engagement, humanist conventions and anti-confrontationism.

It's not that Iran,China, Turkey, whatever are becoming stronger. It's that the USA, the only real 'Annihilator level' military is mired in faulty policy and powerplays within.

I've seen a lot of corporate mergers result in nothing but big payoffs for the stockholders of the company being swallowed and layoffs for their employees. If there is any innovative capability in either of the two companies they can damn well develop it on their own or else stop crowing about how great they are.

Pull our companies out of China, stop giving them our intellectual property, keep our people from being bribed by the commie bastards. IOW, treat them like we treated the USSR. Then we'll see what kind of threat they pose.

Britain
Terrorist in London knife attack had been lecturing woke university leftists all about criminal justice 'reform'
[AMERICANTHINKER] Friday's London Bridge terror attack by a fanatic Islamist with knives -- and not the first one on that bridge -- was a case study in all kinds of things that have gone wrong as blue-city politics and leftist reform agendas take over.

Who let this beast into the country at all?
He was born there, just like Anjem Chaudary.
Why, even after one terror attack attempt, was he let out of the can on parole, with only an ankle bracelet to monitor him? It was obviously a waste of time.

Why was he not booted back to his hellhole of origin, first plane out?
Britain was his hellhole of origin.
Why were the cops, that everyone's supposed to rely on in lieu of guns, not around?

Why did it take bystanders, one "armed" with a whale tusk taken from a decorative display on a chowhouse wall, and another wielding a fire extinguisher, to knock the beast down?

Why don't bystanders in London have access to guns?

So many things wrong with this picture just to start.

The worst though was the fact that the terrorist was not just let out on a much undeserved parole, he was busy lecturing the leftists at Cambridge University at a conference, participating in "workshops" on his supposed prison rehabilitation, the leftists eating it up and calling for more such "reform." He was one of their leaders and they were taking it from him.

Syrian Army retakes all lost areas after launching big counter-offensive in SE Idlib on Sunday, 69 dead
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a big counter-offensive to retake the areas they lost to the jihadist rebels over the last 24 hours in the southeastern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

Led by the 25th Special Mission Forces (formerly Tiger Forces), the Syrian Arab Army began the counter-offensive by storming the areas they recently lost to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
and their allies at two axes.

Following a fierce confrontation on Sunday, the Syrian Arab Army managed to retake all of the areas they lost to the jihadists, including the key town of ’Aajaz, which was one of the primary targets for Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and the Ottoman Turkish-backed National Liberation Front
...the Turkic paramilitaries intended to replace with their native jihadi ferocity all the highly trained Turkish soldiers Sultan Erdogan I the much beloved has jailed in the last few years for not worshipping the ground he walks upon. The Uighurs and so forth who did not join Al Nusra or ISIS seem to have ended up here...
According to a military source in the nearby Hama Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army attempted to take advantage of the chaotic bully boy retreat by seizing more ground near ’Aajaz; however, the attack was ultimately stifled after the enemy forces regrouped.

Jihadist rebels score big advance in southeast Idlib after launching new offensive

[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels launched a new offensive in the southeastern countryside of the Idlib Governorate on Saturday in a bid to capture several sites near the Abu Dhuhour Airport.

According to a field report from southeastern Idlib, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
and their allies captured four towns from the Syrian Army after catching them off guard at the ’Aajaz front.

HTS and their allies managed to capture the town of ’Aajaz, along with Istablat, Rasm al-Ward, and Sourouj.

This latest advance by the jihadist rebels comes just a day after they attempted to capture ’Aajaz from the Syrian Army.

Nearly 70 Dead in Syria Regime Clashes with Idlib Militants

[AnNahar] Two days of festivities between regime forces and gangs in Syria's last major opposition bastion have killed nearly 70 on both sides, a war monitoring group said Sunday.

The battles in the northwestern province of Idlib are the most violent there since a Russian-brokered ceasefire agreement went into effect in late August, said the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

On Sunday morning, clouds of smoke rose over the Maaret al-Numan region as warplanes pounded jihadists and allied rebels in positions they had recently recaptured from regime forces, said an AFP correspondent.

Residents of affected villages fled north to escape the fighting, adding to the tens of thousands who have already flooded out of the province's violence-plagued south since an escalation started earlier this year.

The Observatory on Sunday put the corpse count from fighting at 69 combatants since battles started the previous day.

At least 36 regime forces were among those killed.

It said an attack led by Syria's former al-Qaeda affiliate on several regime positions had initially sparked the fighting.

Overnight, the Syrian army backed by Russian warplanes launched a counter-push to reclaim territory it had lost in the battles, according to the Britannia-based war monitor.

Regime forces have since regained lost ground but violent festivities are ongoing, the war monitor and an AFP correspondent said.

Afghanistan
7,200 Infected With HIV in Afghanistan: WHO
[ToloNews] Globally, the number of HIV-infected people steadily rises, but the number of newly-affected people has decreased by 40% since 1998.

Approximately 7,200 people in Afghanistan are estimated to be HIV positive, according to numbers by the World Health Organization (WHO), published on Sunday to mark World AIDS Day.

The WHO called for a broader public awareness campaign in Afghanistan to deal with the issue.

But the Afghan Ministry of Public Health said that it registered only 2,883 cases of HIV in the country.

"According to our statistics, there are 2,883 cases of HIV registered in the country. The 7,200 cases reported by the World Health Organization are only an estimate," said Fida Mohammad Paikan, deputy minister of public health.

Referring to factors behind the spread of the virus, Paikan said: "Last year the Ministry of Public Health registered 183 cases of HIV, and the figure has decreased to 150 new cases this year. But we need to undertake a comprehensive study to determine the exact number of those suffering from the disease."

Victims complain of social discrimination:

Mohammad Idris, who contracted the disease from an infected needle during a drug injection, said:

"We are facing a lot of problems because we cannot share about our illness with others," said Idris.

Omar, who is also infected by HIV, said: "If we go to hospitals and tell them that we have HIV Aids, they don’t treat us."

According to global health institutions, the number of people newly infected with HIV each year has decreased 40% since 1998. Nearly 3 million people were newly infected in 1998. In 2018, new infections stood at 1.7 million, which corresponds to around 5,000 per day. Roughly 61% of these new infections were in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The number of people living with HIV worldwide has risen steadily from 7.9 million in 1990, to 37.9 million today. However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
thanks to increased HIV treatment coverage, deaths have decreased from 1.7 million in 2005, to 770,000 in 2018. About 23 million people (61% of people living with HIV) accessed HIV treatment in 2018, according to the World Health Organization.
