Ghislaine Maxwell denied bail by New York judge
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] A New York judge denied bail to Ghislaine Maxwell on Tuesday. Maxwell is awaiting her trial on sex trafficking charges.

Fox News reports that Judge Alison Nathan ruled Maxwell was too much of a "flight risk" to be granted release on bail. She stands accused of procuring teenage girls for Jeffrey Want Some Candy, Little Girl? Epstein
...A high class pimp financier who was alleged to maintain a stable of underage whores sex slaves who were paid big bucks to entertain the rich and/or famous. He is a registered sex offender and made att least 17 out-of-court settlements with former members of his stable, with some cases still ongoing. 2011 court docs reveal that 21 email addresses and phone numbers for Bill Clinton and an aide were found in Epstein's electronic black book, and that Clinton frequently flew with Epstein on his private plane between 2002 to 2005. But really, they were probably just discussing finance or politix or something. While getting massaged. Then things got serious, Jeff was tossed in the slammer in New York and then he killed himself. Really. That's what happened...
for the purposes of sexual exploitation between 1994 and 1997.

Maxwell remains at a New York detention centre in Brooklyn.

#9  @7

It is an interesting quandary. An open liberal/progressive seat, especially one that was held by a person they worship, may cause them to come out in force for the election.

Then again, a quick replacement may as well.

I think it is a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

Maybe nominate a left-moderate woman of color but not confirm. Once the election is over withdraw it and put who you wanted in there? I guess it depends on who holds the senate after November.

#12  What are the odds the senate Republicans will "take the high road" and not confirm a replacement until after the election?

Slim to none. President Trump and Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell disagree in a number of key areas, but they strongly agree on the need to get as many conservative, Constitution-minded judges on the federal bench as possible in the time they have. It was not long ago reported that the two are within a few approvals of the record for most judges approved for a single president, and most judges approved fastest — the previous record holder having accomplished a similar number over two terms, not less than a full term.

I’d love to see them propose and approve Kayleigh McEnany to replace Justice Ginsburg for the sheer entertainment value over the next half century, but I don’t expect that wish to be granted.

Fifth Column
NYT writer resigns, calls out the woke rot in the media
[ZH] The internal schism at the New York Times has claimed yet another staffer, as opinion editor Bari Weiss has left the paper and penned a scorching resignation letter denouncing the Times as nothing more than an echo chamber for 'woke' activists masquerading as journalists who believe dissent has no place on the platform.
Go read the whole letter
Quietly scathing. As Mr. Wife commented after returning from his first trip to Saudi Arabia, “Now I know what it felt like to live in Nazi Germany.”
Twitter is not on the masthead of The New York Times. But Twitter has become its ultimate editor. As the ethics and mores of that platform have become those of the paper, the paper itself has increasingly become a kind of performance space. Stories are chosen and told in a way to satisfy the narrowest of audiences, rather than to allow a curious public to read about the world and then draw their own conclusions. I was always taught that journalists were charged with writing the first rough draft of history. Now, history itself is one more ephemeral thing molded to fit the needs of a predetermined narrative.

My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views. They have called me a Nazi and a racist; I have learned to brush off comments about how I’m "writing about the Jews again." Several colleagues perceived to be friendly with me were badgered by coworkers. My work and my character are openly demeaned on company-wide Slack channels where masthead editors regularly weigh in. There, some coworkers insist I need to be rooted out if this company is to be a truly "inclusive" one, while others post ax emojis next to my name. Still other New York Times employees publicly smear me as a liar and a bigot on Twitter with no fear that harassing me will be met with appropriate action. They never are.

It took the paper two days and two jobs to say that the Tom Cotton op-ed "fell short of our standards." We attached an editor’s note on a travel story about Jaffa shortly after it was published because it "failed to touch on important aspects of Jaffa’s makeup and its history." But there is still none appended to Cheryl Strayed’s fawning interview with the writer Alice Walker, a proud anti-Semite who believes in lizard Illuminati.

#7  You know, I have a slightly different take on this. Yes, Bari Weiss was a part of the problem. But hopefully now she won't be. If people can't have a second chance, or a way to get out from the social justice religion, without a complete and totally public conversion immediately upon exit, I think we are doing this wrong. We shouldn't exclude people just because they show up to the party wrong, or solely because they weren't up to our standards to begin with. There's room for people with checkered pasts and incomplete thoughts on the matter in the anti-social justice warrior movement. Or at least, I like to think so.
