-Lurid Crime Tales-
Muslim TV Head Who Beheaded Wife Gets Max 25 Years To Life
Muzzammil Hassan claimed to have stabbed his wife 40 times before decapitating her because she was abusive to him, which forced him to scream at her and hit her before she abusively filed for divorce.

Hassan refused counsel and defended himself. The jury took 1 hour to determine his guilt. His network, Bridges TV, continues in its work to make Muslims look better than they are, not as people who decapitate each other and anyone else they don't like.

He was married three times, and his older children testified against him.

Anonymous Threatens Quantico Hack Attack Over Bradley Manning
According to a Financial Times article, Anonymous have set their sights on the military because of the inhumane treatment received by Manning as a prisoner in solitary confinement.
Let's review what the military is doing to Mr. Manning, shall we --

First, they're holding him in solitary confinement. That's because they don't dare set him loose amongst other prisoners. It turns out that these other prisoners, despite being convicted military felons, have quaint notions of how to handle treason and traitors. Plus, the military is worried that Manning could conceivably communicate with the outside if he were around other prisoners. Given that the average gangbanger in an Illinois prison can do the same, it's a reasonable worry.

Second, they're holding him au naturale. Why? Because he told the prison authorities that if he really wanted to kill himself, he could use his underwear. Since the world would never believe us if the man hanged himself with his Hanes, his clothing was taken away. Liberal progressive blogs complain that he should at least be given paper clothing. That idiots, when pressed, will espouse idiocy is amply demonstrated here.
"Anonymous members appear to have broadened their targets by suggesting attacks on the US military. On publicly accessible document-sharing sites, they have been discussing plans to target the brig in Quantico, Virginia, where Private Manning is being held under what his attorney said were unjustifiable conditions."

What do Anonymous plan to do, specifically? "Harass staff at MCB Quantico Brig to the point of frustration" and create a "complete communications shutdown" of the Quantico base's infrastructure, including internet pages and facilities.

Lieutenant Agustin Soliva, a Quantico spokesman, has called Anonymous' announcement a crime in and of itself.

All of this comes hot on the heels of Anonymous' hack of the HBGary Federal website, which was one of three intelligence firms with connections to the U.S. government hired by Bank of America to bring down both WikiLeaks and Anonymous.

#2  OK Kids, go do that. "Cyber" Attack a US Military installation. Do you know who is tasked with defense of these? The Central Security Service, which is a branch of the NSA. Yep, kiddies, go call the NSA down on your heads.

#3  Let's just get the NSA to ID them. Then send a SEAL team to handle the attack.

#6  The way I understand it ... lots of these folks have a little app on their desktop that they can turn on and off. It's of the same nature as distributed apps like SETI. As such they are under loose control/ receive commands from Central points. It should be possible to hijack the net and use it to attack itself. If it can force in a virus that's even better... one that does a "delete all"

#10  We do not disappear our own citizens. We do not threaten to disappear our own citizens, even those of other countries. We do not, however, object when the NSA gives their addresses and identities to the FBI about five minutes after the first attack on a military site commences. And we might snicker among ourselves when the first arrests are reported shortly thereafter...

#11  Mine was a posed question implying that those who engage in such activity never contemplate all potential outcomes as a consequence. It's like people who engage in identity theft never contemplate taking someone's identity that may bring with it people who are looking for the person whose identity they've lifted. Everyone is betting the 'other guys' play by the book while they don't. I don't see that as a valid assumption.

#20  Simple solution: ID them with NSA super-computers, then post their identities and all associated info on the net. Let the wide, wonderful world of whackos on the Internet deal with them.

In Judo, you turn the attacker's force against him. In WikiLeaks combat, you turn the hackers' stealth into publicity. Natural observation: cockroaches don't like sunlight.

Just name everyone associated with WikiLeaks, and keep posting their names/identities until the entire cyber-world knows it all by heart. End of WikiLeaks.

Today's Idiot
"I Just Broke Into A House And The Owner Came Home," Intruder Tells 911 Operator

After breaking into an Oregon residence last night, Timothy Chapek, 24, barricaded himself in a bathroom after the owner unexpectedly arrived home. Chapek, you see, was worried that Hilary Mackenzie might be armed (or that her barking German Shepherds could prove problematic).

So he called 911 seeking help. “I just broke into a house and the owner came home,” Chapek told a police operator. “You broke into a house?” the surprised operator responded. “I think she’s got guns,” Chapek added.
"And she's gonna neuter kill me!"
Simultaneously, Mackenzie called police to report that there was an intruder in her Portland home (she told an operator that Chapek had reported he was taking a shower).

According to a Portland Police Bureau report, Chapek told cops he was “taking a shower, nothing more.” Mackenzie reported that none of her belongings were out of place and that Chapek had “earlier made some utterance…that ‘Mexicans’ had kidnapped him and put him in the bathroom.”

Chapek, pictured in the above mug shot, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass.

Robber steals kiss from maid
[Straits Times] AN ARMED intruder sealed a hold-up in Cheras with a stolen kiss.
Ooh! Ooh! I seen dis movie!
The man, who was armed with a knife, had tied up a maid after entering the two-storey terrace house in Jalan Budiman about 8.30am yesterday.
"I regret that I must discommode you like this, señorita!"
He then scooped up an assortment of valuables worth about RM6,000 (S$2,504). However,
The infamous However...
before fleeing, he turned amorous and began to grope and kiss the 23-year-old maid.
"But before I go...! [Smooch! Smooch! Grab!]"
"Hey! Leggo of that! I don't even touch myself there!"

The maid later freed herself and lodged a police report. Cheras police chief Asst Comm Mohan Singh Tara Singh said the incident had occurred right after the maid's employer left for work.
"Is he gone yet?"
"Just stepped out!"
"I'll get the handcuffs!"
"I'll get the Velveeta!"

He said the woman was doing household chores when the intruder, believed to be in his 20s, entered through the front door and threatened her with a knife. 'The man also took away five handphones, a camera and RM200 cash,' said Mohan Singh.

Thai man killed in Brunei crocodile attack
[Straits Times] A THAI man has been attacked and killed by a crocodile while fishing in Brunei, in a rare incident in the oil-rich sultanate, police said on Tuesday.
His vacation was just ruined.
Brunei police recovered the body of the Thai national on Monday after he was attacked by the crocodile the previous day while fishing with friends on a river. The body has been sent for a post mortem examination, media reported.

'This is a very rare incident,' Brunei's regional crime officer Othman Ahmad told AFP, adding 'we have advised the public not to go near the river'.

Mr Othman declined to give the man's occupation in Brunei.

He confirmed reports that said the man's body was found floating in the river around 100m from where he was snatched by the animal.

The reports said the last such incident occurred in 2009 when a crocodile attacked and killed a four-year-old boy while he was swimming with his father and siblings.

More government jobs slated for Moroccan youths
[Maghrebia] Morocco will employ 4,304 graduate degree holders for government positions, officials announced March 2nd. The move comes as a concession to university graduates who had staged frequent demonstrations outside Parliament.

The job integration will take effect starting March 1st, Yassine Affani, member of the national committee of unemployed doctors, said. All that is needed now is to implement various administrative procedures. In its statement, the committee hailed the state efforts to address the youth unemployment problem in Morocco.

The government team has shown great flexibility in finding a favourable resolution to the issue, Communications Minister Khalid Naciri said on March 3rd.

Young graduates will now be recruited into the public services directly without taking competitive entry examinations. The government passed a decree on February 24th, and the arrangement will only apply during 2011.

This temporary solution, although welcomed by all sides, will not resolve the problem of unemployment in Morocco, a number of specialists warned.

According to economist Karim Machidi, the government's generosity towards unemployed graduates has been dictated by the current Arab regional context. The measure will cool things for a while, he explained, but other groups of jobless youths will emerge and exert more pressure on the executive.

He called for the introduction of a well-defined strategy to reduce unemployment by changing the general trend of university education to favour areas of study which are in greatest demand on the labour market.

"With the emergence of new professions and the adoption of modern production techniques, the labour market in Morocco needs skills which will match the developments being seen in a number of growing sectors," Employment Minister Jamal Rhmani said at a March 3rd conference in Rabat.

Arabia
Don't try to control our lives, say Saudi women
A little late, doncha think ladies?
[Arab News] Young Saudi women are calling for more freedom and liberty in their own country. On International Women's Day, university students claim that women in Soddy Arabia need more independence because their daily life is filled with restrictions.

Arab News spoke to young Saudi women about their thoughts on the future.

"One of our simple rights is to be able to drive to college. I don't understand why it's prohibited for us to be in the driving seat," said 22-year-old Zakeyya Ghulman. "I'm sick and tired of the driver being late and busy with all the work my family is giving him -- dropping my mom off at the doctor, picking up my sister from school. I keep waiting for him for hours."

Traveling without a male guardian and having to wait for his approval creates problems for 20-year-old Kholoud Mamoon. "My parents are divorced. My mother is from Egypt, and she lives there. My problem is that every time I want to visit my mother I face a lot of resistance from my father before I finally get him to take me to see my mom," she said. "I want to just pack my bags and book a flight for the weekend to visit my mom whenever I need to."

Under Saudi law, women require their guardians's permission to leave the country -- either by escorting them to the airport and signing an exit waiver or by obtaining single-use or multiple-use permission forms that women keep with their passports.

Having the freedom to choose her future husband is what 25-year-old Amal Al-Ali really wants. "I come from a family that controls young women and does not give them the option to even choose their future," she said. "Our generation is new and out there, we see and mix with men more than my mother and grandmother did when they were my age," she said.

Amal added that her father decided when she was a baby that she was going to marry her cousin. While Islamic custom grants fathers the right to reject male suitors, it does not permit fathers to arrange marriages against the consent of their daughters. However,
The infamous However...
going against a father's will can prove to be a formidable challenge for daughters and sons alike.

Some jobs and college studies are prohibited to Saudi women, especially if they're perceived by parents to be inappropriate for women.

"I always wanted to study journalism, but my father was so against it that he controlled my high school certificate study, my college study; and I'm sure he will control my job options," said 19-year-old Nora Al-Harthy. "His argument was that journalists have to mix with men in the office and talk to them by phone or even interview them. This act in our family is taboo."

As for sports, stadiums are no-go zones for women -- something that irks the Kingdom's many female football fanatics. "This is nonsense," said 20-year-old Mona Bokhary. "I have a passion for football and it doesn't make sense that women are not allowed to watch football live and always have to watch it on big screens. I want to attend a football match and hear people cheering for their favorite team and feel the game. What's the harm in that? Why isn't it allowed for women to go there? Why not make women's only sections at local stadiums?"

Bangladesh
Yunus removal upheld
[Bangla Daily Star] The High Court yesterday upheld Bangladesh Bank's "removal" of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus from the post of Grameen Bank's managing director.
The boodle is now officially up for grabs.
He will appeal against the verdict with the Supreme Court, his lawyers said.

An HC bench summarily rejected two writ petitions filed challenging the legality of the central bank's order.

Delivering the verdict, the court said the microcredit pioneer's posting as the MD of Grameen Bank since 1999 was illegal as he reached the age of 60 by then.

The MD of Grameen Bank is an official who cannot hold the office for an unlimited period, it added.

The board of directors of Grameen Bank is the authority to appoint its MD with approval from Bangladesh Bank. But it did not happen in Yunus' case since 1999, the court said.

The HC bench of Justice Mohammad Momtazuddin Ahmed and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore observed that there was no substance in the writ petitions.

Details of the grounds on which the HC rejected the writ petitions could not be known immediately, since the copy of the verdict's full text was not released yesterday.

The Grameen Bank authorities expressed disappointment with the verdict.

Jannat-E-Quanine, general manager for information and media co-ordination of the institution, in a statement said, "We have received the order and are very disappointed. We are consulting with our lawyers about the next steps. We hope that in the meantime nothing will jeopardise the stability of Grameen Bank."

"Eight million borrowers and 26,000 members of Grameen Bank have brought the bank to this level through their hard work and are deeply involved in building the future for their children -- we hope nothing will disrupt that," it added.

To clarify, as I understand it PIMCO has been reducing its treasuries position for months - today was the day it hit zero (or they claim it hit zero - these guys are bond traders, after all.) But it's extraordinary that you can have a $236B fund run by some very serious fixed-income professionals without having a nickel in treasuries, even if just on the chance that they might be wrong about the basic call. And I think that when this news hit the wire a whole bunch of Chinese officials went "Whoa! Dude!"

On the other hand, the yield on the ten-year hasn't moved squat.

The proportion of Americans who believe the country is on the right track dropped 7 points in the past month to 31 percent, and 64 percent think the country is on the wrong track.
In one month. It will be interesting to see what next month holds.
It was the highest number of people in an Ipsos poll who believe the country is going in the wrong direction since Obama took office in January 2009.
Gee. It only took them 26 months to figure it out.
Ipsos pollster Cliff Young said the rating was a direct result of gasoline prices that have risen sharply in recent weeks as a result of tumult in North Africa and the Middle East.
And the fact that our leader who forgets who put him there.
"We are moving into a scenario in the near-term that is much more uncertain given the issue of gas prices," he said. "Gas prices specifically are things that affect people's pocketbooks and have an immediate impact."
And food prices. And TARP. And Obamacare. And Obamadontcareaboutthemiddleeast. And the liberal agenda is leading us over a cliff. And spending.

So I saw a poll the other day that 44% of Americans are supposed to like how Obean is doing.

It doesn't take a math major to see a disconnect here.

Well, they are democrats.

Wisconsin gov. rejects talks offer
[Iran Press TV] Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker has rejected the offer of a meeting with Democratic senators to negotiate a compromise over the ongoing labor stalemate.

In a televised news conference, Walker argued that Senate Minority Leader Mark Miller's request was absolutely "ridiculous."

"For us to move forward, we need reasonable and responsible officials," Walker said. "This letter is absolutely ridiculous. He [Miller] is the person standing in the way."

"Sen. Miller is misleading the public just like he misled us," said Walker, adding that he had sent two staffers to meet with Democrats on Sunday but could not reach an agreement that would bring the senators back from Illinois.

On February 17, 14 Democrats in Wisconsin state senate left to prevent a quorum and thus block a full Senate vote on a bill Walker offered to close a budget gap in the current fiscal year.

In a Monday letter, Miller requested a face-to-face meeting with Walker and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald "to reach a bipartisan solution to our differences."

The Republican governor has unveiled a two-year budget plan, which would reduce the state government expenditures for schools and local governments by $4.2 billion, or 6.7 percent, in a move to rein in a budget deficit of $137 million, and a projected $3.6 billion gap over the next two years in Wisconsin.

The budget plan has been met with massive protests by public union workers.

Political analysts in the US say that protesters are unable to get their message across due to the lack of proper coverage by media companies such as FoxNews and CNN, which heavily depend on high revenues from subscriptions and commercials.

CNN's income from its subscription rights in 2009 alone was $578.8 million, while FoxNews made $569.5 million.

WTF???? What about the NYT, ABC, CBS, NBC, WaPo etc. etc.? They don't have an audience or readership anymore? They aren't supported by ads and subscribers????

This is the most inane AND asinine statement I've ever seen!! (Ok, maybe that was a bit hyperbolic, but still......)

"Democrats had been calling all day Wednesday for Walker and Republicans to compromise."

Dem's idea of compromise: do it OUR way, even though we're in the minority.

#9  Wow. Talking about not quarter!

Republicans in the Wisconsin Senate voted Wednesday night to strip nearly all collective bargaining rights from public workers after discovering a way to bypass the chamber's missing Democrats.

#11  The WI senate move affects future contracts but doesn't reduce existing commitments, which will require Dem involvement. But it's a start and a negotiating tool, at a minimum.

#12  With the end of the collection of union dues by the employer, the State of Wisconsin, it spells the end of the political influence of public employee unions in Wisconsin. With the requirement for annual certification, it may mean the end of the unions themselves.

That is what this has been all about. If it spreads, it will kill AFSCME.

Discovery heads toward its final landing
[Straits Times] SPACE shuttle Discovery is on track for a Wednesday landing - its very last one.

Commander Steven Lindsey and his crew will test the shuttle's systems Tuesday morning. Then the six astronauts will hold a ceremony to mark Discovery's final flight.

Discovery, the world's most flown spaceship, departed from the International Space Station on Monday. It will wrap up its 13-day mission with a Florida touchdown, weather permitting.

Discovery now faces life as a museum display. It's the first of Nasa's three space shuttles to be retired. Nasa managers contend the fleet still has lots of flying lifetime left. But the agency is under presidential direction to aim for true outer space, which means giving up the shuttles, which are confined to orbit.

Philippine MPs set to impeach anti-corruption chief
[Straits Times] PHILIPPINE politicians on Tuesday launched impeachment proceedings against the country's top graft prosecutor over allegations she stood aside as ex-leader Gloria Arroyo stole public funds.

The House of Representatives justice committee voted to recommend that parliament begin a formal proceeding to remove Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez from her post, its chairman Neil Tupas said.

'The committee of justice finds the existence of probable cause to impeach Ms Merceditas Gutierrez for betrayal of public trust,' Mr Tupas said at the end of the public hearing, which aired live on national television.

The House, the lower house of parliament, is expected to vote next week on the committee's recommendation, Mr Tupas said.

Ninety-four votes in the 282-member chamber would send the impeachment complaint to the Senate, the upper chamber, whose 24 members would sit as judges.

Ms Gutierrez, who was once justice minister in Arroyo's cabinet, had been accused by Mrs Arroyo's foes of failing to pursue officials suspected of large-scale corruption during her boss's nine-year rule.
