Sauvignon Blanc Loving Baboons Plaguing Exclusive Suburbs of Cape Town

Groot Constantia, in the heart of Cape Town's wine country, can deal with inebriated holidaymakers – but it is invading baboons which have developed a taste for its grapes that the wine makers are struggling with.

Each day, dozens of Cape Baboons gather to strip the ancient vines – the sauvignon blanc grapes are a particular favourite – before heading into the mountains to sleep. A few, who sample fallen fruit that has fermented in the sun, pass out and don't make it home.

Others? Go on rampages through the houses, creating total chaos.

Former Marine speaks out on Stolen Valor case re; "EX" Marine

#1  A problem wid "Stolen Valor" Cases is that US-WORLD INTEL + COVERT DIPLOMACY had historicially used many many 000's [or more] of Operatives whose TRUE BACKGROUNDS + ACTIVITIES, MILITARY ANDOR CIVILIAN, had been intentionally altered, hidden, or even destroyed for the sake of undercover Credibility + of course National Security.

IT GENERALLY TAKES AN ARMY TO FIGHT ANOTHER ARMY, A CROOK TO CATCH ANOTHER CROOK, A SPY TO CATCH ANOTHER SPY, and so on. AGZ THOSE ENEMIES WHOM ARE MINDFUL + SAAVY ENOUGH TO USE PRE-ESTABLISHED LAWS, PROTOCOLS, + LOCAL TRADITIONS-VALUES AGZ ITSELF TO INTENS ENGAGE IN MALICIOUS OR CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES.

IMO the above is why a number of US-STATE COURTS + US FED AGENCIES per se had NOT strongly nor punished offenders in such Cases, + MORESO NOW WID THE POST-9-11 GWOT = WAR AGZ HIGHLY DECENTRALIZED OR SEMI-ORGANIZED MILITANTS, ee INDIVIDUAL RADIC OR EXTREMIST PERSONS + NONS + CELLS + GROUPS + LOCAL, INTERNATIONAL NETWORKS, ETC.

E.g. CHARLIE SHEEN in "NAVY SEALS" Movie > "WE [USN Seal Team(s)]DON'T EXIST", aka "I [Charlie = USN Seal Team member per se] DON'T EXIST".

IOW, "STOLEN VALOR" CASES = FOR "I-WORK-NINE-TO-FIVE-THEN-GO-HOME-TO-WIFE-N-KIDS-N-DOG-N-DINNER-THEN-BED" PEOPLE, NOT FOR INTEL OR COVERT OPS.

Court acquits imam of molesting 8-year-old schoolboy in mosque
[Gulf News] A court on Sunday overturned an imam's three-year prison sentence by acquitting him of the charges of molesting an eight-year-old school boy in a mosque.

The imam was acquitted by the court after his lawyer claimed police had coerced his confession.

The Dubai Appeal Court threw out the primary sentence of three years in jail followed by deportation, and acquitted the 26-year-old Indian imam, ZH, of sexually molesting the American boy while teaching him the Quran in a private room inside the mosque.

ZH's lawyer, Haroun Tahlak, told the appeals court: "My client did not sexually abuse or molest the boy. From the beginning ZH denied the boy's claims that he molested him. When police arrested him, eight police officers beat him with their hands, legs and a stick ... They assaulted him and coerced him to confess a crime he did not commit."
Well, at least the cops had some fun with him...
In May, the Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the imam to three years in jail for molesting the eight-year-old boy while teaching him the Quran. ZH pleaded not guilty and told the court: "This is unfair. I am innocent, I didn't commit any crime."
Must've been pitching...
Tahlak defended: "The prosecutor, who questioned my client, noticed that he had bruises and injuries on his chest, shoulder and back after he was allegedly beaten by the policemen".

"A forensic doctor who examined ZH mentioned the bruises and injuries in his medical report... but prosecution didn't pursue our complaint."

The advocate argued before the court that the boy claimed that he was molested, because he didn't want to learn the Quran.

Tahlak said: "The boy and his brother were fed up because ZH was strict in teaching them the Quran".

"Besides, the father's claims were unfounded and baseless," Tahlak said.

"The boy's statement [before prosecutors] was inconsistent. Police questioned my client in the absence of a legal translator. ZH is 26 years old and he didn't have any criminal intentions. What really happened is that he gave him a peck on the cheek, in a rewarding manner, like any teacher who encourages his students. He didn't have any intention to molest the claimant."
No tongues...
At least he was thoroughly beaten. The boy can take some comfort in that... and resolve never to be alone with a Muslim cleric, nor allow his own children to do so.

Lennon's toilet fetches $20,000
What's with this fascination with famous people's toilets?
A toilet that belonged to late Beatle John Lennon fetched 9,500 pounds (NZ$20,730) at auction on Saturday, around 10 times its estimate, the sale organizers said.

Lennon, who was murdered in New York in 1980, had the porcelain lavatory removed from Tittenhurst Park in Berkshire, southern England, where he lived from 1969 to 1971, and replaced with a new one. Builder John Hancock stored it in his shed for 40 years until he died recently and the lavatory was sent for sale, British media reports said.

The pre-auction estimate was 750 to 1,000 pounds.

Anne-Marie Trace, who works at the Beatles Shop in Liverpool which organized the sale, said the high price paid had taken the organizers by surprise. "I think it's the most unusual item we've ever had in our auction," she told Reuters. The buyer was not identified but Trace said it was likely it was "going overseas."

Invasion of the Giant Squid
DEADLY sea monsters have woken from the deep to cause carnage among some of the world’s richest fishing grounds.

Millions of killer giant squid are not only devouring vast amounts of fish they have even started attacking humans.

Two Mexican fishermen were recently dragged from their boats and chewed so badly that their bodies could not be identified even by their own families.

No wonder the giant squid are called “diablos rojos” – red devils.

Monster squid are the stuff of legend. But for fishermen and marine biologists along 10,000 miles of coast from Chile to Alaska, the myth has become reality.

Since 2002, Humboldt giant squid, named after the 18th century German explorer, have been spreading their tentacles to deplete fishing stocks by moving from their traditional tropical hunting grounds off Mexico and laying claim to a vast sweep of the Pacific.

Hunting in 1,000-strong packs the giant squid can out-swim and out-think fish. Scientists believe they coordinate attacks by using pigment cells to communicate.

A single female is believed to be able to lay 30 million eggs, each one capable of becoming a giant killing machine.

Marine biologists wear chain-mail to protect themselves from creatures that can measure 8ft, weigh 100lb and carry an armoury of more than 40,000 fearsome teeth along two “attack” tentacles.

The creatures have another eight “legs” for grasping and swimming and can reach speeds of more than 15mph.

Former US special forces diver Scott Cassell has put his life on the line to study the squid. He too has been attacked.

He said: “Within five minutes my right shoulder had been pulled out of its socket. I had 30 big marks on my head and throat and one squid hit me so hard I saw stars. They then grabbed on to me and pulled me down so fast that I could not equalise and I ruptured my eardrum.

“They are the most opportunistic predators on the planet. They eat everything in their path. One Humboldt squid in the course of two years can eat 27,000lb of fish. What is going to be the impact on the environment?”
"We're doomed, I tell you. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!"

Authorities struggle to save Thatta city
[Dawn] Troops and workers were on a "war footing" Sunday as they battled to save the southern city of Thatta after most of the population of 300,000 fled advancing flood waters.

Torrential monsoon rains have triggered massive floods that have moved steadily from north to south over the past month, engulfing a fifth of the volatile country and affecting 17 million of its 167 million people.

Sindh is the worst-affected province, with 19 of its 23 districts ravaged as flood waters swell the raging Indus river to 40 times its usual volume.

One million people have been displaced over the past few days and hundreds of thousands have already fled Thatta alone ahead of the approaching torrents as soldiers work frantically to repair breached levees on the river.

"The water is still two kilometres (about a mile) away from Thatta where the armed forces and the local administrative workers are working on war footing to save the city," senior city official Hadi Bakhsh Kalhoro told AFP on Sunday.

"The army brought a maximum of resources to try to fill up the breach. Almost all the people have left Thatta to safer places, all shops and schools are closed," he said.

Water levels were still rising in the district, but Kalhoro said: "We are hopeful that we can save at least Thatta city in two days."

An AFP reporter said the road linking Thatta with the town of Sujawal had been flooded and closed to all vehicular traffic, while Kalhoro said an electricity grid station near Sujawal had been flooded.

The military said its engineers had repaired an important embankment in the south and were trying to protect the highway linking Thatta with Karachi.

The government has been overwhelmed by the magnitude of the disaster, the worst in the country's history, with millions in need of tents and food and medical aid.

China-Japan-Koreas
Backlash over China curb on metal exports
Japan's foreign minister Katsuya Okada issued what amounted to a formal protest at top-level meeting with Chinese officials in Beijing over the weekend, saying the sudden cut-off was "affecting the global production chain".

It is the latest sign of rising pressure after angry complaints by companies outside China that rely on this family of 17 metals for hybrid cars, mobile phones, superconductors, navigation, and a host of high-tech industries.

China's commerce minister Chen Deming said that Beijing would not back down over the export quotas. "Mass-extraction of rare earth will cause great damage to the environment, that's why China has tightened controls," he said, repeating the official line.

Beijing set off shockwaves in early July when it announced a 72pc reduction in rare earth exports over the second half of this year. The country has acquired a near monopoly, with 97pc of global output after under-cutting the rest of the world with Mongolian ores in the 1990s. The sudden cut-off since July has drastically restricted supplies to the rest of world.

The last US mine shut 14 years ago, discouraged by tough US environmental rules. The US General Accounting Office said China now has a "dominant position" with market power. "Rebuilding a US rare earth supply chain may take up to 15 years," it said.

Liberal party races ahead of ruling Labor in Oz polls
(PTI) The Liberal party of Tony Abott today raced ahead of the ruling Labor party after its candidate Ken Wyatt today became the first Indigenous person to be elected to the Australian parliament, even as the political deadlock entered the second week.

With the election of the Liberal candidate the party's score in the cliff hanger general elections have gone up to 73 seats, with ruling Labor party winning 72 in the 150-member House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, Wyatt became the first Indigenous person to be elected to the House of Representatives after grabbing Perth seat of Hasluck.

Australians voted in the country's first hung parliament in 70 years at the August 21 polls -- delivering Tony Abbott's Liberal/National coalition 73 seats and Prime Minister Julia Gillard's centre-left Labor 72, but giving neither the 76 seats needed to rule.

Just Us Dept Tries To Pressure AZ Community Colleges
The Maricopa Community College District requires authorized foreign workers to submit additional credentials to insure that their identification is legitimate, which they do not require from US citizens seeking employment with them.

The Justice Department labels this as discriminatory, and has filed a lawsuit to prevent it.

The Immigration and Nationality Act requires employers to treat authorized workers in the same manner during the hiring process, regardless of their citizenship status.
A Boston Globe article attributed Barack Obama’s win in the 2008 U.S. Presidential election to a marked reduction over the preceding decades in the percentage of whites in the American electorate, attributing this demographic change to the The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. The article quoted Simon Rosenberg, president and founder of the New Democrat Network, as having said that the Act "Set America on a very different demographic course than the previous 300 years."

30 NG Arrive At U.S.-Mexico Border - ROE: Surveillance and 'Be A Deterrent'
30 National Guard employees ordered to protect the U.S.-Mexico border arrive at their post in southern Arizona today.

About 30 citizen soldiers are set to start their new assignment under Operation Copper Cactus.

Their job will be to help the Border Patrol with surveillance and serve as a deterrent for anyone trying to sneak across the border from Mexico.

President Obama has ordered 1200 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, and a total of 532 guardsmen will be deployed to Arizona alone by the end of September.
Currently there are 17,000 Border Patrol agents on the Mexican border, reduced by 384 agents this year from last by the administration.

Muslims donate nearly $1 billion to Pakistan
[Dawn] Muslim countries, organizations and individuals have pledged nearly $1 billion in cash and relief supplies to help Pakistan respond to the worst floods in the nation's history, the head of a group of Islamic states said Sunday.

The announcement came as floodwaters inundated a large town in Pakistan and authorities struggled to build new levees with clay and stone to prevent one of the area's biggest cities from suffering the same fate.

Foreign countries have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars to help Pakistan cope with the floods, which first hit the country about a month ago after extremely heavy monsoon rains. But some officials had criticized the Muslim world for not contributing enough.

Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, head of the 57-member Organization of The Islamic Conference, likely sought to counter that criticism by announcing that Muslims have pledged nearly $1 billion. The pledges came from Muslim states, NGOs, OIC institutions and telethons held in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, he said.

''They have shown that they are one of the largest contributors of assistance both in kind and cash,'' said Ihsanoglu of the various donors. He spoke during a joint press conference with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad.

Ihsanoglu did not provide a breakdown of the pledges or say how much of the money would flow through the Pakistani government versus independent organizations.

Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani criticized donations made to foreign NGOs rather than the Pakistani government Sunday, saying much of the money would be wasted ''Eighty per cent of the aid will not come to you directly,'' said Gilani, referring to Pakistani citizens.

''It will come through their NGOs, and they will eat half of it,'' he said during a press conference in his hometown of Multan.
...and we'll eat half of what's left.

#4  Muslim countries, organizations and individuals are notorious for making large charitable pledges that they never pay. It's that whole wish vs. reality thingie that they're so bad at in other areas... like war.

Floods inundate Sindh's Sujawal town
Floodwaters inundated Sujawal, a large town in southern Pakistan, on Sunday as authorities struggled to build new levees with clay and stone to prevent one of the area's biggest cities from suffering the same fate.

Almost all of Sujawal's 250,000 residents fled the town before the water rushed in, but the damage to homes, clinics and schools added to the widespread devastation the floods have caused across Pakistan, said Hadi Baksh, a disaster management official in Sindh province.

The floodwaters also threatened Thatta, a historic city of some 350,000 people who have mostly fled to higher ground. Thatta is the base of operations for local authorities trying to cope with a disaster that has overwhelmed the government and international partners who have stepped in to help.

Authorities rushed to build makeshift levees across the road connecting Sujawal and Thatta, parts of which were already flooded, Baksh said.

''We are trying to plug the bridges at three different points to stop the water flow toward Thatta,'' said Baksh. ''We are trying all our best efforts.''

The floods began in the mountainous northwest about a month ago with the onset of monsoon rains and have moved slowly down the country toward the coast in the south, inundating vast swaths of prime agricultural land and damaging or destroying more than one million homes.

More than eight million people are in need of emergency assistance across the country.

The United Nations, the Pakistani army and a host of local and international relief groups have been rushing aid workers, medicine, food and water to the affected regions, but are unable to reach many people.

The US said Saturday that it would deploy an additional 18 helicopters to help with the relief effort. The US military is already operating 15 helicopters and three C-130 aircraft in the country, the US Embassy said in a statement.

Hey Mayor Bloomburg -- GZM Owners Owe You 224G in Taxes!
Tax deadbeats -- you got there Major, these mosque developers.

Searching city records shows Sharif El-Gamal, the leading organizer behind the mosque and community center near Ground Zero, owes back property tax on the site for some $224,270.77.

El-Gamal's company, 45 Park Place Partners, failed to pay its half-yearly bills in January and July, according to the city Finance Department. The delinquency is a possible violation of El-Gamal's lease with Con Edison, which owns half of the proposed building site on Park Place. El-Gamal owns the other half but must pay taxes on the entire parcel.

The late taxes are the latest wrinkle in the controversial plan.

And yet another wrinkle, Mr. Mayor, that you should already know, El-Gamal insisted to The Post that the lease permitted him to demolish the property at any time. But the lease agreement says El-Gamal must provide Con Ed with a copy of a financing commitment or other proof that money is available to "cover the estimated cost of demolition of the building and construction of the new building."
Dig deeper, guys, that got to be more.
