Boston becomes the second largest city in the US to ban facial recognition software, citing concerns that the technology is 'racially discriminatory' and threatens basic rights

#6  Like all tools facial recognition should be a tool and not an end what we see is law enforcement going for the techie solution because it’s techno cool. Look at photo speed traps. They became a revenue generator for the equipment suppliers and for the municipalities.

For example the municipality of Anchorage used to have photo radar. 60% of revenue went to companies and 40% went to the city. Threshold to trip for tickets could be adjusted to increase revenue.

Anchorage citizens got so incensed that they threatened to recall the mayor and city council if this was not rescinded immediately. Well the photo radar was taken down and related tickets nullified.

Brooklyn Lawyers Hit with Seven Federal Charges for Allegedly Throwing Molotov Cocktail Into NYPD Cruiser Now Face Life Imprisonment
[Atlanta Black Star] Two lawyers are facing life in prison on charges of throwing an explosive into an unoccupied New York Police cruiser during a demonstration in late May.

Colinford Mattis
...Princeton, NYU Law, former corporate law associate at some fancy New York City law firm...
and Urooj Rahman
...pouty connected Pakistani-American who trained with Hamas before training in human rights law at Fordham. Her self-proclaimed best friend, successful Washington, DC lawyer Salmah Rizvi previoisly worked for President Obama as an intelligence analyst ...
were charged with seven federal counts including use of explosives, arson, use of explosives to commit a felony, arson conspiracy, use of a destructive device, civil disorder, and making or possessing a destructive device, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. Mattis is a 32-year-old Black man and Rahman, 31, is of Pakistani descent.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on May 29 in Brooklyn during a protest related to the death of George Floyd, who died on Memorial Day. Rahman reportedly exited a minivan driven by Mattis to throw a Molotov cocktail into the broken window of a NYPD cruiser. Authorities say after Rahman tossed the device she jumped back into the van and Mattis drove off. An explosion never occurred because tissue paper used as a fuse burned out before the fire reached the gasoline. The vehicle was unoccupied, and no one was injured during the incident.

"Police Officers pursued the minivan and arrested Rahman and Mattis, who was the vehicle’s driver," the U.S. Attorney’s Office press release stated. "In the vehicle, the NYPD found several component items for Molotov Cocktails, including a lighter, a bottle filled with liquid suspected to be gasoline and toilet paper, additional bottles and toilet paper, and a gasoline canister."

Prosecutors also accused Rahman of distributing Molotov cocktails to other protesters. If convicted, they face life imprisonment. Both are registered lawyers and had no criminal record prior to their arrest. They were arrested on May 30 and released on a $250,000 bond with electronic monitoring. However, they were thrown back in jail after an appeal from federal prosecutors, who say the two are a danger to others.

LA City Council moves to send unarmed responders on some 911 calls
[NYPOST] The Los Angeles City Council took a first step this week toward launching a new "crisis response" plan that would have unarmed service providers responding to some 911 calls instead of the city’s police department, according to new reports. The council’s police reform committee on Wednesday approved a motion in which the LAPD would work with other city and county agencies that handle health and homelessness issues to "develop an unarmed model of crisis response that would divert non-violent calls for service away from LAPD to the appropriate non-law enforcement agencies and related matters," the Los Angeles Times reported.

Some council members raised concerns about funding and questioned whether the city might be moving too quickly or drastically to slice resources from law enforcement.

But Councilman Herb Wesson, who helped introduce the measure, tried to shut down the critics, LAist reported.

"I understand ... that this makes you feel a little uncomfortable," Wesson said. "Well, welcome to being black. Welcome to being uncomfortable."

While shifting responsibilities for responding to calls away from police and to other agencies is a large part of the "Defund Police" movement, activists took issue with any LAPD involvement at all.

Afghanistan
US spy agencies believe Russian operatives secretly offered Afghan militants bounties to kill American troops
[Washington Examiner] Officials within the U.S. intelligence community believe Russian intelligence operatives offered to pay Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces, including U.S. troops, during peace talks to end the nearly two-decade-old conflict in Afghanistan.

Officials told the New York Times that Unit 29155, part of the Russian military intelligence agency widely known as GRU, has been deemed responsible for the bounties. The unit is linked to the March 2018 nerve agent poisoning in Salisbury, England, of Sergei Skripal and his daughter. Skripal was a GRU officer who had worked for British intelligence forces and then defected. In 2016, the unit was linked to an attempted coup in Montenegro.

The officials, who spoke with the outlet on the condition of anonymity, said the intelligence on bounties offered by the GRU is fairly conclusive, based partly on interrogations of captured Afghan militants and criminals, but it is unknown how high in the Russian government knowledge of the situation or approval of it went.

Given Russian support for North Korea and North Vietnam, and the deaths of 100,000 GI's in the associated conflicts, I think the Russians are ahead of the game.

Sky News cuts off ex-Met Police chief after he says officers have 'given up' trying to stop young black men carrying weapons and accuses BLM of aiming to destabilise society
[Mail] Reacting to the violence in Brixton, Mr Hurley, who also served as Surrey's Police and Crime Commissioner, said yesterday: 'The only way you're going to deal with this is with social intervention to get upstream and manage the problems that comes with single parenting, particularly among young African-Caribbean women.

'And I'm talking about intervening and supporting women when the children are three to four years of age, to prevent them going down this route of rebelliousness and often offending.'

He added: 'We've got into a vicious circle with police officers dealing with young black people, who always come to the perspective that the police are trying to suppress them.

'And the police very quickly come to learn that dealing with young black people is quite frankly aggravation that puts their careers and mortgages at risk.

'That's the reason why so many black youth are killing each other in London, because the police have given up trying to stop them carrying knives and guns and killing each other.'

Fifth Column
4 Things the Liberal Media Won't Tell You About Black Lives Matter
1. Are BLM Leaders ’Trained Marxists?’

The group’s co-founders are Patrisse Khan-Cullors,
...also known as Patrisse Cullors ...
Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza, all of them black women.

"The first thing, I think, is that we actually do have an ideological frame," Khan-Cullors said in a 2015 interview with Real News Network. "Myself and Alicia in particular are trained organizers. We are trained Marxists."

2. What’s the Official Organization?

More than one Black Lives Matter appears to exist, but the one primary associated with its best-known founders and that receives the largest level of donations is the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation.

According to the group’s website, the organization has a national network of about 40 chapters.

Black Lives Matter as a movement, or at least a slogan, recently has attracted broad support in favor of racial equality and opposition to police brutality.

Two-thirds of Americans say they either strongly or somewhat support the Black Lives Matter movement, according to a Pew Research poll.

However, at least one self-described "trained Marxist" founded the organization behind the movement, and that organization also has called for dismantling the nuclear family—something that likely extends beyond the goals of many supporters.

"This hardcore cadre, they are parasitic on genuine outrage and genuine injustice," Scott Walter, president of the Capital Research Center, an investigative think tank, told The Daily Signal in a phone interview.

"I don’t know anyone on the planet who doesn’t think the George Floyd death was an injustice," Walter said. "That’s why it was against the law. That’s why they [the four Minneapolis police officers involved] are being prosecuted. Most of the people out protesting are going to be moved by the outrage of the moment. The problem is that you have this cadre."

Walter was referring primarily to the three founders of Black Lives Matter as well as a board member with Thousand Currents, the leading funder of the group.

Here are four things to know about the founders and organization behind Black Lives Matter.

1. Are BLM Leaders ’Trained Marxists?’

The Black Lives Matter movement began after the 2013 shooting death of Trayvon Martin, 17, in Sanford, Florida, and picked up after the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown, 18, in 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri.

The group’s co-founders are Patrisse Khan-Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza, all of them black women.

"The first thing, I think, is that we actually do have an ideological frame," Khan-Cullors said in a 2015 interview with Real News Network. "Myself and Alicia in particular are trained organizers. We are trained Marxists."

Khan-Cullors continued:

We are super-versed on, sort of, ideological theories. And I think that what we really tried to do is build a movement that could be utilized by many, many black folk. We don’t necessarily want to be the vanguard of this movement. I think we’ve tried to put out a political frame that’s about centering who we think are the most vulnerable amongst the black community, to really fight for all of our lives.

Khan-Cullors, who serves as strategic adviser to the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, is an artist and organizer from Los Angeles, according to the group’s website.

Khan-Cullors, 36, is also the founder of Dignity and Power Now, a group that advocates for incarcerated people and their families. A Fulbright scholar, she is the New York Times best-selling author of the book "When They Call You a Terrorist."

Garza, an organizer in Oakland, California, is also special projects director for the National Domestic Workers Alliance, an advocacy group for domestic workers.

Garza, 39, was named to The Root’s 2016 list of 100 African American achievers and influencers and is the recipient of the 2016 Glamour Women of the Year Award and the 2016 Marie Claire New Guard Award. She was recognized as a Community Change Agent at the BET’s 2016 Black Girls Rock Awards.

While two founders of Black Lives Matter are on the West Coast, Tometi works out of New York. The group’s website describes her as a "Nigerian-American writer, strategist, and community organizer" and a "transnational feminist."

Tometi, 35, created online platforms and social media strategy during the early days of the movement.

She also is executive director of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration and, according to the website, is featured at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington.

2. What’s the Official Organization?

More than one Black Lives Matter appears to exist, but the one primary associated with its best-known founders and that receives the largest level of donations is the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation.

According to the group’s website, the organization has a national network of about 40 chapters.

In 2016, the left-leaning grantmaker Thousand Currents, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group, became the financial sponsor of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation.

Thousand Currents reported $3.35 million in donations earmarked for the BLM Global Network Foundation in 2019, according to Capital Research Center, a watchdog group for nonprofits.

3. What Does the Organization Want?

Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation doesn’t hide its more out-of-the mainstream views, although many of them are stated in broad terms.

"We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and ’villages’ that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable," the organization says on its website.

The website uses the word "comrades" several times, in one instance to say: "We practice empathy. We engage comrades with the intent to learn about and connect with their contexts."

Although the organization states that "We are unapologetically Black in our positioning," it focuses heavily on something that traditionally has not been part of African American activism—sexual orientation and gender identity:

4. What Is Thousand Currents?

Notably, the vice chairwoman of the board of directors for Thousand Currents is Susan Rosenberg, a convicted felon who participated in bombing buildings in the Northeast and Washington, D.C.

Rosenberg was part of M19, short for May 19th Communist Organization. Her memoir "An American Radical," details her 16 years in federal prison.

At her sentencing hearing in 1984, Rosenberg urged supporters to "continue to fight for the defeat of U.S. imperialism."

"One of the biggest bombs they had went off in the U.S. Capitol and tore up that fine Democratic slave owner John C. Calhoun's portrait," Capital Research Center's Walter said of Rosenberg and M19. "The Weather Underground wasn't really radical enough for her. Some of those people ended up wimping out and going off to be stock brokers and whatever. That wasn't good enough for her and she stayed radical."

M19's bombings reportedly were for the sake of causing enough disruption to prevent President Ronald Reagan's reelection in 1984. Rosenberg was a member of the Weather Underground in the 1960s. President Bill Clinton commuted her 58-year sentence on his last day in office in January 2001.

Trump says FBI investigating ‘hundreds’ of monument vandals
[NYPost] President Trump says the FBI is investigating "hundreds" of protesters for defacing federal property including statues — and that they face 10 years in prison for having "fun one night."

Trump told news hounds in the Rose Garden on Wednesday that a law already allows stiff penalties and that he will sign a "very strong executive order" this week.

"The FBI is investigating hundreds of people throughout the country for what they’ve done to monuments, statues and even buildings," Trump said at a presser with Polish President Andrzej Duda.

"We have a law that’s 10 years — it’s 10 years, that’s a long time to have fun one night," Trump said.

#2  The FBI Director also said last week that the bureau was "investigating" thousands of Chinese espionage and tech transfer cases.

Investigations are fine, but Let's see some convictions and stiff prison sentences.

Minnesota State Rep: Antifa and Muslim Groups Plan to 'Police Minneapolis Under Muslim Rule'
[FRONTPAGEMAG] As the city of Minneapolis moves to dismantle its police force, Minnesota state Rep. Steve Green on Tuesday stated the obvious that virtually everyone else has been tiptoeing around and pretending isn’t there: "What you’re looking at, in my humble opinion, is communism moving into Minneapolis and St. Paul." And not just Communism, but the Leftist/Islamic alliance. Green asserted that Antifa
...the armed wing of the Democratic Party...
and Moslem organizations plan to "police Minneapolis under Moslem rule." Those who scoff at such a notion simply aren’t paying attention to recent developments. The Minneapolis City Council voted two weeks ago to abolish the city’s police force. Its plans beyond that have so far been sketchy, but something is going to have to be put in place as an alternative to the police. The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

noted that "many have called for relying more on self-policing by the community, in the way attendees often do at events like music festivals, with the police stepping in only when a true emergency arises. Some cited as an example how, in the days after the killing of Mr. Floyd, teams made up of dozens of members of the American Indian Movement patrolled streets and directed traffic in the Little Earth housing community in Minneapolis."

If members of the local community end up policing Minneapolis, what might that look like? Back in 2016, a series of Minneapolis Moslems in man-on-the-street interviews stated matter-of-factly that they preferred Islamic law over American law. We have seen Sharia patrols in Germany, Britannia, and even New York City, where the Moslem Community Patrol (MCP) is decked out in uniforms that strong resemble New York Police Department uniforms, and drives cars carefully designed to look like NYPD cars, to enforce "fundamentals of the Sharia."

Moslem leader Siraj Wahhaj explained what that meant: "The mosques need protection and the MCP cars can help stop people who were not following the rules and regulations of the sharia, doing what they’re not supposed to be doing, but still doing it." According to a Moslem involved with the MCP, this would involve stopping "Moslem women being out after dark, Moslem men hanging out in the corners doing dope, Moslems drinking liquor," and enforcing, "basically, the fundamentals of the Sharia."

If such a community patrol is launched in Minneapolis, it is likely to focus on the same things, but not do anything about the fact that the 5th Congressional District in Minneapolis, Rep. Ilhan Omar
...Somali-American Dem representative from Minnesota. She was apparently married to her brother and may be her own grandmaw on her mother's side...
’s district, is the jihad terror recruitment capital of the United States. Stopping young Moslems from engaging in jihad activity is unlikely to be a high priority for a group that is dedicated to enforcing Sharia, since Sharia calls upon Moslems to wage war against and subjugate unbelievers.

India-Pakistan
India admits massing troops on Himalayan border following Chinese buildup
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] India acknowledged for the first time on Thursday that it has matched China in massing troops at their contested Himalayan border region after a shootout
this month.

But India’s foreign ministry accused China of causing the tensions by starting military deployments, and warned relations between the world’s two most populous nations could be undermined if the standoff continues.

The neighbors have blamed each other for a June 15 battle in the Ladakh region in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed while China suffered an unknown number of casualties.

While each has said it wants to de-escalate the territorial showdown, India’s foreign ministry front man Anurag Srivastava said "both sides remain deployed in large numbers in the region, while military and diplomatic contacts are continuing."

U.S. House passes bill to designate Pulse nightclub as a national memorial to 'continue to honor the 49 angels' who were killed during the 2016 mass shooting
  • H.R.3094 passed on Friday by a voice vote after first being proposed last June by Representatives Stephanie Murphy, Darren Soto and Val Demings

  • The designation comes more than four years after 49 people were killed in the gay club in Orlando

  • The bill gives the nightclub federal status and establishes a memorial and museum at the site

  • It also allows the memorial to still be run independently by the onePULSE Foundation, the nonprofit started by Barbara Poma, owner of the club
