Man tells coppers to call the FBI because he has permission to carry meth.
[OutKick] A homeless Florida man was arrested on Wednesday after he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. During the arrest the man told the arresting officer to call the FBI and a local police department, because according to the man, he has some sort of special permission to carry meth.

Robert Lawson, 50, was loitering near a wooded area close to a business when he was approached by a Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputy. He consented to a search during the encounter with the deputy.

A small baggie containing a gram of a crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine was found in Lawson’s pack of cigarettes. In one of his grocery bags the officer found a used syringe with a brown liquid residue.

According to the police report, after being read his rights, Lawson demanded that the deputy make a couple of phone calls. One of those calls to the FBI and the other to the Saint Petersburg Police department.

The reason for the calls is that, according to Lawson, he is allowed to carry methamphetamine. Instead of placing the calls, the deputy arrested him. He was charged with felony drug possession and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Not surprisingly, this isn’t Lawson’s first run-in with the law. Although, it is probably the first time he’s claimed to have some sort of license to carry meth.

His past convictions include trespassing, battery, possession of drug paraphernalia and consuming alcohol in a city park. Lawson’s kept the criminal justice system pretty busy over what look like a rough 50 years.

Hopefully he can find some help. But if not maybe he’ll make some sort of homemade “license” to carry meth for his next encounter with officers.

#2  Some kinda cousin or something once came down from up north looking for traces of an runaway black sheep grampa or gruncle who'd lived (and barbered, IIRC) at a certain address more or less across from Congo Square. Said address turned out to be a nice old creole cottage chopped into voodoo shoppe [huge googly eye-roll] and apartments, in one of which, years later, after the storm, a kooky cook would disassemble and cook his better half. Quite a notorious case. Couple of palefaces, I think, but it's been a while.

Jerry Lee Lewis might actually be dead at 87

[NYPOST] Rock ’n’ roll icon Jerry Lee Lewis died at his home in Memphis, Tennessee, representative Zach Farnum told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named. He was 87.
Did they see the body?
TMZ reported on Oct. 26 that Lewis had died, but then retracted the report and blamed a bad tip.
Did they poke him with a fork?
Nicknamed "The Killer," the electric showman was one of the first stars inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He was known for his boogie-woogie style with 1957 hits "Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On" and "Great Balls of Fire."
Who's gonna play that old pianna, now that he is gone?
The rock pioneer was born in Ferriday, Louisiana, on Sept. 29, 1935. In his biography, he recalled learning to tickle the ivories at age 9, with his father mortgaging the family farm to buy him his first piano shortly thereafter. His first public performance came at the age of 14, at the opening of a car dealership.

He attended Bible school in Texas, where he was reportedly expelled for a bad attitude and misconduct, including playing rock ’n’ roll versions of hymns.

Elon Musk completes $44B Twitter purchase, fires CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and Vijaya Gadde
[TWITTER]

I await the virtual hosting of Twitter between the now greater than 3200 StarLink satellites, many connected to each other with lasers, as the ultimate "Shell Game".
Tesla CEO Elon Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter on Thursday, firing three key senior executives from the company as he prepared to chart a new course for the microblogging website, according to multiple reports.

In addition to closing the deal and adding a new company to his sprawling tech portfolio, Musk is taking Twitter private, paying shareholders his original inflated price of $54.20 per share.

The deal's closure brings to an end legal action from Twitter seeking to force Musk to complete his offer after he attempted to renege on the deal.

Musk earlier Thursday signaled that the deal would be closed in short order, changing his Twitter bio to "Chief Twit" and penning a lengthy -- by Twitter standards -- assurance to advertisers that he does not want the website to become a "free-for-all hellscape."

Musk has long taken a more hardline approach to free speech, but in a message geared toward advertisers, he vowed to continue Twitter's policies of policing various content, including hate speech and threats of violence.

"The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence," Musk wrote, in a voice that seemed to assume the deal had already been completed.

"There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society," he added.

Musk said that in addition to ensuring the company is run in compliance with US laws, "our platform must be warm and welcoming to all." He had previously signaled that he would reinstate former President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and whatever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's account, though the former commander-in-chief has said he would not return to Twitter as he seeks to maintain his in-house Twitter competitor.

Concerns had mounted that should Musk purchase Twitter, he would cut back or throw out its efforts to moderate content, particularly hate speech, which would likely leave many advertisers scrambling for the exits along with everyday users.

Addressing advertisers directly, Musk said he believes "that advertising, when done right, can delight, entertain and inform you; it can show you a service or product or medical treatment that you never knew existed, but is right for you."

"For this to be true, it is essential to show Twitter users advertising that is as relevant as possible to their needs," he wrote. "Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise. To everyone who has partnered with us, I thank you. Let us build something extraordinary together."

Legal proceedings had been ongoing in the US state of Delaware where Chancery Court Judge Kathaleen McCormick has given the parties until 5 p.m. Friday to close the deal or face a November trial to decide the outcome.

5 Under $5K: The Best Cheap Cars We Found For Sale (Asheville, NC Edition)
[War Zone] Last week's visit to the cozy northern Nevada city of Reno revealed some neat cheap cars for sale, some of which were solid enthusiasts' choices. This week, let's sail across much of the country to Asheville, North Carolina and have a look at what this Southeastern version of a nestled-in-the-mountains metropolitan area has to offer.

Like Reno, Asheville's got outdoor splendor to the max. It's situated along the Appalachian Trail, features great hiking, hunting, fishing, and cycling, and even sports a very pleasant downtown area. Plus, a big variety of solid microbreweries and some of the best BBQ I've ever had in my entire life. It's not too much of a drive to get to other cool cities, too, like Knoxville, Atlanta, Athens, Greenville, Charlotte, and more.

While the area's car classifieds weren't exactly numerous, what it did have was some neat potential. Here are five options for short money that seem like they'd be worth investigating.

And as always, a heads up: The Garage’s "five under five" highlights five cars listed under $5,000 within a specific geographic region. The idea is to keep a finger on the low-end car market’s pulse and provide some context on the current state of what’s on Craigslist. We don’t know these sellers and haven’t seen any of these cars in person. We’re just sharing them based on what’s apparent in the ad, so break out your wallet at your own risk!

U.S. Army Is Looking To Buy AK-74 Assault Rifles
[War Zone] The U.S. Army says that if you have stocks of Russian-made 5.45x39mm AK-74 assault rifles, or copies made in other countries, it may be interested in buying them. Why exactly the service might want them isn't entirely clear, but the AK-74 is one of the predominant standard service rifles in the Ukrainian military. The Army, as well as other branches of the U.S. military, does also maintain stocks of various foreign small arms for use by special operations forces, to arm mock enemy or faux local partner forces during training exercises, and to support various research and development and test and evaluation activities.

The Army Contracting Command-New Jersey (CCNJ) posted a notice "seeking potential sources to supply AK-74-type Kalashnikov Assault Rifles and Support Parts" on the U.S. government's SAM.gov contracting website yesterday. CCNJ said this posting was made on behalf of the Program Manager for Soldier Lethality (PMSL) and the Combat Capabilities Development Command-Armaments Center (CCDC-AC), but offered no further details about why either entity might be interested in this potential purchase and what the guns might be used for more specifically. The War Zone has reached out to the Army for more information.

The contracting notice also does not say how many of the Soviet-designed AK-74s the Army might be looking to buy in total, but does offer specifics in terms of what the Army is looking for in terms of the weapons themselves. "For the purposes of this effort, the AK-74-type Kalashnikov Assault Rifle is defined as follows: One (1) AK-74-type Kalashnikov Assault Rifle with fixed stock and approx. 16 inch barrel."

A standard array of accessories to go along with each gun — four magazines, one cleaning kit, one oil bottle, one shoulder sling, and one user's manual — is also desired. However, the Army says it will "recognize that the availability of these accessories is dependent on the condition and source of the rifles and may not be included."

CCNJ's notice is somewhat confusing in terms of what alternative guns it says the Army might be willing to accept in lieu of actual Soviet/Russian-produced AK-74s.

  • Sailors in the United States Navy have exposed the ship's contaminated, gray drinking water on board the USS Abraham Lincoln

  • The Lincoln, a nearly 40-year-old ship that navigates the Pacific Ocean and is a member of the United States Navy Pacific Fleet

  • The videos, which were provided to Insider , show gray, murky water coming out of the ship's drinking fountains and sinks which the Navy confirmed had E. coli

  • A sailor called the conditions - first noticed in mid-September - 'horrible' saying the water would appear black at times and in a video, said smelled 'like s**t'

Economy
GDP Q3 up 2.6%
[BEAgov] This was right in line with what the GDPNow, a product of the Atlanta Fed, was saying

It is difficult for the Democrats to use this because it comes from the same source as had the USA with two negative quarters.

Looking at the internals, there were some oddities, e.g., a big increase in exports (probably the result of currency flux) and a big increase in Gov spending (the hurry up and spend it before the fiscal year is over type perhaps)
Posted by: Lord Garth || 10/29/2022 00:00 || Comments || Link || [8 views] Top|| File under:

#1  The internals were odd indeed. The surge in exports, which accounted for most of the growth, was particularly puzzling. The US dollar has risen sharply against most currencies, making our exports more expensive to other countries and their exports to us cheaper. Normally our exports should decline and our imports increase. But the opposite occurred, for reasons I can't figure out.

One interesting factoid in the Commerce Department release was the increase in oil exports. Why in the world are we exporting oil when we have a shortage here that is driving up gasoline and heating costs???

Government Corruption
FBI asks court for 66 years to reveal laptop contents of murdered Democrat staffer Seth Rich
[Metro Voice News] When Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was inexplicably murdered on a Washington DC street, conspiracy theorists alleged his laptop contained information damaging to Hillary Clinton and the 2016 presidential campaign.

The rumors persist and an FBI request this week is not doing anything to allay those accusations. The embattled agency is now asking a court to give it 66 years to release the information discovered on the laptop. Sixty-six years would be 2088 — well beyond the lifespan of most people involved in the 2016 election, including those currently on trial (including FBI informants) and FBI officials making the request.

A U.S District Court in September ordered the agency, which has been accused of politicizing its investigations, to produce the data on the laptop—something the FBI continues to fight. The agency, say detractors, is not acting in a way that elicits confidence in its investigations. In 2019 the agency said it "lost" thousands of pages of notes related to Hillary Clinton and the investigation into Russian influence.

But why are Seth Rich and his laptop again making headlines?

Rich was an up-and-coming political staffer who was privy to communications, finance details and strategy employed in the 2016 show-down between Hillary Clinton and then-candidate Donald Trump. While calling it a robbery, Rich’s mother noted nothing was taken from her son and police released video surveillance revealing two people may have been involved in the death. Those details continue to fuel theories surrounding the motives for the death though it remains unsolved.

One item recovered from Rich’s belongings was his work laptop found at his apartment. News outlets call it "the other" FBI laptop problem and the FBI is seemingly determined to keep the contents from the public.

U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant, an Obama appointee, ruled in September that the bureau must hand over information from the computer to Brian Huddleston, a Texas man who filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the info.

The FBI’s assertion that the privacy interest Rich’s family members hold outweighed the public interest was rejected by Mazzant, who noted the bureau cited no relevant case law supporting the argument.

But the ruling was erroneous, U.S. lawyers said in a new filing.

The bureau shouldn’t have to produce the information because of FOIA exemptions for information that are compiled for law enforcement purposes and "could reasonably be expected to disclose the identity of a confidential source," the lawyers said in a motion for reconsideration. Another exemption, which enables agencies to withhold information that would disclose law enforcement techniques also applies, they said.

"Given the Court’s findings that except for the information related to Seth Rich’s laptop withheld pursuant to Exemptions 6 and 7(C) based on privacy interests, the FBI properly withheld or redacted all other information responsive to Huddleston’s requests, the production order seems inconsistent with the rest of the order," the motion stated.

The FBI, after claiming it never possessed Rich’s laptop or any information from it, acknowledged in 2020 that it had thousands of files from the computer.

The bureau "is currently working on getting the files from Seth Rich’s personal laptop into a format to be reviewed," the government said at the time.

Information and material extracted from the computer were provided by a source to an FBI agent during a meeting on March 15, 2018, FBI records officer Michael Seidel said in a declaration. He said the files included photographs and documents, among other material.

In the new filing, government lawyers said the FBI never extracted the data, which it revealed as originating with a law enforcement agency. They said the information is on a compact disc containing images of the laptop.

"The FBI did not open an investigation into the murder of Seth Rich, nor did it provide investigative or technical assistance to any investigation into the murder of Seth Rich. As a result, the FBI has never extracted the data from the compact disc and never processed the information contained on the disc," they said.

Democrat Candidate: Latinos Should Be Loyal to Latinos
[Breitbart] American Latinos should be loyal to Latinos, not to their fellow Americans, according to the Democrats’ contender for the post of Florida’s lieutenant governor.

Democrat Karla Mats-Hernandez is running against the incumbent GOP Lt. Gov. Jeanette M. Nuñez.

"Technically, [Nunez] is considered a Latina, but I think that her Latina card should be revoked," Mats-Hernandez said in a video posted on October 27 by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign, adding:

The moment that she said ... she was okay with putting [illegal-migrant] Cubans on a bus and sending them to Delaware ...

She is a Cubana arrepentida [an apologetic, self-ashamed Cuban]. You don’t do that. You don’t lose touch ... She’s completely, you know, out of touch with her [Latino] community.

So I like to think that I’m the only Latina running for this seat. And really, that I represent all of our [Latino] issues, all of our [Latino] communities.
