[BlockClubChicago] Four volunteers with My Block, My Hood, My City were robbed while hanging up Christmas lights in Grand Boulevard on Saturday, the nonprofit and police confirmed.
The volunteers were decorating a home near 48th Street and Martin Luther King Drive as part of the nonprofit's annual "Be Part of the Light" event, which aims to decorate homes, buildings and light poles for the holidays along a 12-mile stretch of King Drive.
Around 3:50 p.m., four women ages 30-34 were decorating a home near 48th and King Drive when multiple people pulled up in a white SUV and got out, demanding the women's belongings before fleeing with a purse, wallet and a fanny pack, police said.
To make matters worse, the Christmas tree the group saw lit up in Washington Park was burned overnight — for the second year in a row

For those following the heyjackass.com website, neighborhood in article is known as 'Grand Boulevard', not to be confused with 'Grand Crossing' neighborhood.
Both are dangerous to human life, however.

[Breitbart] A brawl broke out between rap groups Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Three 6 Mafia on stage during a Verzuz rap battle at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California, Thursday night. The fight came after a member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony called Three 6 Mafia "devil worshippers" and suggested the group’s name is a nod to "the mark of the beast."
The brawl — which caused the show to stop — ensued shortly after Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s Bizzy Bone accused Three 6 Mafia of "mocking" him, according to a report by TMZ.

[Aljazeera] Future pandemics could be even more lethal than COVID-19, so lessons learned from the outbreak must not be squandered and the world should ensure it is prepared for the next viral onslaught, one of the creators of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine says.
Sarah Gilbert, a professor of vaccinology at the University of Oxford, said in the Richard Dimbleby Lecture that the world should make sure it is better prepared for the next virus, according to the BBC.
The novel coronavirus has killed 5.26 million people across the world, according to Johns Hopkins University, wiped out trillions of dollars in economic output and turned life upside down for billions of people.
"The truth is, the next one could be worse. It could be more contagious, or more lethal, or both," Gilbert said. "This will not be the last time a virus threatens our lives and our livelihoods."
"The advances we have made, and the knowledge we have gained, must not be lost," she said.

A "really" rough draft I have been on and off again working on since 2020.
COVID-19 LESSONS I LEARNED
a) Know your problem before running off half cocked.
b) Only let the non-political aligned experts define the problem and make recommendations.
c) State Governors and President should make decisions based on proven facts and data. Mayors and local politicians should BUTT OUT
Be careful in selecting your experts.
Do not use experts that:
a) previously have a bad track record for accuracy,
b) have only flown a desk and have not been actively hands on with such situations,
c) tend to pander to Politicians and elitists with global agendas,
d) rely of anonymously written computer models,
e) and /or love Media Notoriety.
Establish how figures will be collected from the start.
a) Establish who is responsible for the figures.
b) Establish a standardized constant publicly understandable way of presenting figures that paint a clear timely picture. Always start off with weekly figures, before list total figures.
c) If issues change, or issues arise, then state why, explain and move on.
d) If any data were deliberately falsified by person(s) involved in the collection, they should be outed and criminally charged.
e) Always show Infected, cured and death rates together.
f) Remember wild predictions only cause Panic.... Never use them.
g) Show which demographic groups are being more seriously affected and explain why?
h) Show what environments are causing the most seriously issues.
i) Never allow media, politicians or others to sell panic over Facts for revenue & attention.
j) Any Federal, State or media person spewing hype and panic over facts should be exposed and removed from public access.
Media Handling and Media Updates
a) The updates should NEVER be allowed to become a Political Circus.
b) Call out all violators that publish misleading facts.
c) Refuse to answer future questions from repeated violators and openly explain why.
d) All questions should be related to Current Known data, not predictions.
e) All Predictions must be treated as non-gratta.
f) Explain how it is being addressed and what the next steps are in the plan.
g) Avoid politics and politically based agendas of those focused on Blaming and not solutions.
h) If a reporter presents inaccurate misleading open ended data in a question, point it out BEFORE answering, or rephrase the question to properly answer it.
i) If a media person goes on a blame game agenda call them out for it.
j) Do NOT feed those 2nd guessing actions for personal or political reasons with answers.
k) Do not tolerate a person or media outlet that is trying use a press briefing to become a celebrity or cause a news worthy political agenda spectacle. Warn them and openly remind them they there to collect news, not become part of the news. If they continue, terminate the press briefing and post the facts to the official website along with an explanation why.
l) Hold a Closeout debriefing of official findings and mistakes made in handling the process. Post this on a publicly accessible website.
m) Develop and post a written set of Rules of Decorum expected of all media and persons present. State if not followed then what action will be taken.
Dealing with Counter-Productive Politicians
a) Play no favorites. Focus on solutions and containment.
b) Remember you are dealing with a Pandemic NOT helping someones re-election.
c) No one or political party member is immune from having to answer for politicizing the issue.
d) Use the Subject Matter Experts to call out the Political Media Hounds when they are wrong.
The President will openly communicate with the leaders of both major parties.
a) His staff will ensure they will be provided what is being done and will be done on a daily basis.
b) Him or the failing staff member(s) will be the sole Whipping Boy for Mistakes.
c) But all involved parties will share in any good News and successes.
d) Always use and quote the experts by name and apply what is recommended, if Feasible and Constitutional.
e) Proven Unified Talking Points. KEEP IT SIMPLE & EXPLAIN IT SIMPLY AS POSSIBLE. Use analogies to help explain complicated issues.
f)Require both party leaders to keep their extremists in check.
Seriously, that's an excellent playbook. A pity that our chicken little moronic leaders can't execute on it....they've painted themselves into a corner now and can't begin to get out sans losing face -- and power, power, power

As near as I can tell, we lost over half a million people here in the US because we wouldn't treat this like all other varieties of viral pneumonia.

Simply to refrain from reporting stupid predictions and idle projections would be a vast improvement by both the government and the media.
In reporting deaths from whatever, always report deaths from all other sources at the same time. Include with every report the average deaths / day historically.

[EpochTimes] Dr. Omar Hamada on Dec. 1 said that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 may provide natural immunity without inducing severe illness, as the symptoms so far resemble more of a "mild, common cold" in South Africa.
In an interview with NTD’s "Capitol Report," the emergency room doctor and former U.S. Army Special Forces lieutenant colonel said that even though "we’re seeing an uptick in [the] number of people affected, the severity of disease seems to be, at this point, minimal."
"If the infectivity is greater, but the virulence or severity is less, this may be actually something good in terms of getting people immune to it without necessarily having to depend on a vaccine that’s not incredibly effective," Hamada stated.
On Dec. 3 the World Health Organization (WHO) said that Omicron has been detected in 38 countries, up from 23 countries two days prior.
The Omicron variant has also been reported in 11 U.S. states as of Dec. 4, including 15 cases in vaccinated individuals.
One of the cases in the United States so far was confirmed to have recovered from COVID-19 and have natural immunity.
Being mRNA-based, both the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines trigger the body to recognize and attack the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus’s spike protein.
Because the Omicron variant has "approximately two dozen mutations in that spike protein," according to Hamada, the effectiveness of current vaccines against the new variant remains to be seen.
Dr. Anthony Fauci ...American epidemiologist with rotating opinions, warnings about the unlikely, and reassurances that if you wear a mask you won't get COVID, as long as you're wearing multiple masks, assuming wearing a mask is necessary in the first place... , chief medical adviser to the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft ...knaves, footpads, and adjusters employed by the Biden Crime Family. They leave a trail of havoc everywhere they turn their attention, be it the nation's borders, the Keystone XL Pipeline, or epidemics, sometimes on purpose, most times through sheer arrogant ineptitude. They learnt this stuff in college, you know... , stated in a Friday briefing that it would "take a while" to know "what the impact is going to be globally and for people who are infected with Omicron."
"We absolutely have community spread in this country," Fauci told Bloomberg TV on Friday. "We don’t know how many of them, but there’s no doubt there’s community spread."
While Omicron is spreading rapidly globally, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky urged news hounds to focus on the Delta variant for the time being during the White House briefing.
"I know that the news is focused on Omicron, but we should remember that 99.9 percent of cases in the country right now are from the Delta variant," Walensky said.
Pfizer executive Ralf Rene Reinert said he does not "expect that there will be a significant drop in effectiveness" of the current vaccine against Omicron, and emphasized the importance of the booster program, in an interview with Bloomberg on Dec. 2.
When the Beta and Delta variants emerged, Pfizer had already started working on new versions of its vaccines only to conclude that the original shot provided good protection, Reinert told Bloomberg.
Meanwhile, ...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke... Moderna could have a COVID-19 booster shot targeting the Omicron variant tested and ready to be submitted for authorization as early as March, according to the company’s president who spoke to Rooters on Dec. 1.

They will never know the extent of the spread because the effects are so mild people will assume it’s a winter cold and just stay home while it runs it’s course

[MAIL] China's military is on pace to become a 'peer competitor' to the United States' armed forces as the country moves to amass nuclear weapons at 'breakneck' speed, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned on Saturday.
However he also downplayed the possibility of a new Cold War and emphasized diplomacy and deterrence as the US strategy to compete with the growing economic powerhouse.
Speaking at the Reagan National Defense Forum in California, the Pentagon chief devoted much of his nearly hour-long appearance to discussing 'an increasingly assertive and autocratic' China's efforts to upend US dominance in the global order.
Part of that threat includes a goal to amass a thousand nuclear warheads in its arsenal by the end of the decade, Austin said.
'We’ve seen two decades of breakneck modernization by the People’s Liberation Army,' he said, referencing the Chinese military. 'And China’s military is on pace to become a peer competitor to the United States in Asia - and, eventually, around the world.'

[NEWSWEEK] Three coppers were denied service at a the Socialist paradise of San Francisco ...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964... restaurant because staff "felt uncomfortable" that they were armed.
"Three armed and uniformed San Francisco coppers came in to dine at Hilda and Jesse" on Union Street on Friday, the restaurant said in a post on its Instagram page.
"Shortly after seating them, our staff felt uncomfortable with the presence of their multiple weapons. We then politely asked them to leave."
The move prompted a backlash on social media, leading Rachel Sillcocks, the restaurant's co-owner and chef, to speak to ABC7 to clarify that the decision to turn the officers away was only because they were armed.
"It's not about the fact that we are anti-police," Sillcocks told the station.
"It is about the fact that we do not allow weapons in our restaurant. We were uncomfortable, and we asked them to leave. It has nothing to do that they were officers. It has everything to do that they were carrying guns."
Sillcocks added that the officers were welcome to return to the restaurant, as long as they came without their weapons.
On Instagram, the restaurant said it was a "safe space."
The post added: "The presence of the officers weapons in the restaurant made us feel uncomfortable. We respect the San Francisco Police Department and are grateful for the work they do. We welcome them into the restaurant when they are off duty, out of uniform, and without their weapons."
The caption added: "This is not a political statement, we did what we thought was best for our staff."
The incident prompted outcry on social media and a Twitter thread from SFPD Chief William Scott.
"Community engagement is a core principle of SFPD's 21st century police reforms, and we are intentional about asking our officers to support local businesses and get to know those they're sworn to safeguard," Scott said in a tweet sharing the restaurant's response.
In further tweets, Scott added: "The San Francisco Police Department stands for safety with respect, even when it means respecting wishes that our officers and I find discouraging and personally disappointing.
"I believe the vast majority of San Franciscans welcome their coppers, who deserve to know that they are appreciated for the difficult job we ask them to do—in their uniforms—to keep our neighborhoods and businesses safe."
Hilda and Jesse and the San Francisco Police Department have been contacted for additional comment.

[Bloomberg] More people are back in the City of London than at any time since the government imposed a lockdown in March last year as Covid-19 ripped through the country. Even as the new omicron variant spreads, almost 80% of workers in the financial district were back at their desks on Tuesday and Thursday of last week, according to data compiled by Google, which tracks the locations of its users.
Christmas parties may have been encouraging more people to come to the area, with bars and restaurants thronged with revelers midweek -- but firms are starting to cancel gatherings, or scale back their party plans, in the face of the new variant.
[SAHARAREPORTERS] A Nigerian man, Osagie Aigbonohan, was on Friday convicted by the Southwark Crown Court, United Kingdom over his involvement in a romance scam in which he conned several women out of thousands of pounds. This was made known in a statement issued on Saturday by the National Crime Agency.
The 40-year-old Nigerian was said to have used a number of aliases to contact women online through dating and social media sites, and in one case cheated a woman out of nearly £10,000 (about N7.5million at the parallel market).
According to the statement, Aigbonohan used the name ’Tony Eden’, after which he struck up a ten-month relationship with the victim in 2020, via a dating site and persuaded her to lend him money to buy machinery for his business overseas.
The victim reportedly made nine transfers into various accounts operated by the Nigerian under fake identities, with the money eventually being sent into a personal account held by Aigbonohan, which he used for everyday spending.
Also, data recovered from Aigbonohan’s phone showed that he received money from at least eight other victims and had been in contact with over 670 people in total.
The statement said one of the victims was terminally ill, but Aigbonohan continued to pursue her even after she had passed away.
He was arrested in July 2021 and a false driver’s license was found on him at the time. Also it was discovered that he had no legal right to be in the UK, having overstayed his visa from two years ago.
Records showed that despite living in Abbey Wood, London, the Nigerian will spend victim’s money in locations across London, Manchester and Glasgow.
NCA officer’s conducted a search on the culprit's residence where they found a footwear he had purchased with store vouchers that could be linked back to one of the victims.
Aigbonohan was said to have appeared before Southwark Crown Court on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to charges relating to fraud and money laundering.
He will remain in jug until he is sentenced at the same court on 14 January 2022.
Dominic Mugan, NCA Operations Manager, said: "Romance fraud is a particularly cruel crime that impacts victims both emotionally and financially, with victims often feeling like they’re the ones to blame.

[Just The News] Analysts urge strategy to credibly threaten to "render Taiwan not just unattractive if ever seized by force, but positively costly to maintain" by destroying its semiconductor industry.
The U.S. military no longer scares Beijing to the degree it once did, so other deterrents must be used, analysts said.
The United States might lose a war against China over Taiwan, and therefore should adopt a "scorched-Earth" plan for Taiwan to destroy its own industries if Beijing attacks, according to analysts writing in a U.S. Army publication.
The recommendations appear in the winter issue of Parameters, a quarterly publication from the U.S. Army War College.
Coauthors Jared McKinney and Peter Harris note that the U.S. military no longer scares Beijing to the degree that it once did.
BLUF:
The best way to forestall a Chinese assault on Taiwan is not via military threats, but by persuading Beijing that an attack would backfire, McKinney and Harris noted.
"The United States and Taiwan should lay plans for a targeted scorched-earth strategy that would render Taiwan not just unattractive if ever seized by force, but positively costly to maintain," the authors wrote. "This could be done most effectively by threatening to destroy facilities belonging to the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the most important chipmaker in the world and China's most important supplier."
China also should be warned of potential domestic unrest.
China has secretly signed agreement that will ensure Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing end-users receive substantially reduced 'post conflict' pricing and free delivery.

The Taiwanese may already be considering that, according to a couple of other articles I've seen. The Chinese also have to consider the possibility that losing Taiwan - a US ally in one form or another since the late 1930s - could result in a thorough wipeout of whatever party was in power here when it happens, and us deciding to throw the environmental protesters out the window and build our own plants.
I still believe that the PRC has no desire to rule over the blasted rubble that would be Taiwan after any invasion, no matter how well planned, so they will do everything in their power to walk in quietly.

Scorched earth means you destroy your own territory, so your enemy can't use it.
The French coined a better word, that deals with destroying your enemy's territory, so your enemy can't use it: chevauchée
Also most commonly associated with the phrase fire and sword.
The example in the article (Sweden) is more in line with the traditional concept of scorched earth, where you make the cost of invading territory you own too high.
In the concept being discussed, the US would turn its power on an ally as a strategic deterrence.
The very idea wouldn't give the Chinese pause, but could give them cause to dismiss the seriousness of the US's commitment to defend Taiwan
#5
The scorched earth conceit is retarded. The Chinese are obsessed with reclaiming Taiwan and have been for more than half a century -- Kissinger said that was all they wanted to talk about back in 1971. Has f-all to do with whether Taiwan even has a tech industry.
That this is even discussed is still more evidence that We Are Ruled By Morons
#7
As the credibility of US deterrence rapidly declines, and the specter of a kinetic invasion looms ever larger in the visible media, the appeal of compromise and lucre will make a soft-invasion most likely in the next 6 months perhaps...with all the face-saving blathering possible to assuage the patriots and nay-sayers. Perhaps even a "compromise" brokered by Bidet to put a US face on the surrender/victory. But make no mistake, in the domestic Middle Kingdom press, it ill be a massive victory and confirmation of their world power supremacy in their eyes!

"...could result in a thorough wipeout of whatever party was in power here when it happens, and us deciding to throw the environmental protesters out the window and build our own plants."
Maybe the earth we need to scorch is far to the east of Taiwan?
