Rosemary is rather stylish for MS-13. Usually their fashion sense runs more towards the over-tatted gang-banger aesthetic. Perhaps she works in government liaison.

Mr B, you must have visited Powell's Technical Book Store in the annex overlooking a park a couple blocks from the main store. That place was divine. It had a good run from 1990-2010 before they closed it and move (some of) the contents to the main store. I spent thousands there.
I haven't been to the main store since 2019. I suspect the staff culture has been mostly destroyed since the mass firing in March of 2020 and ongoing Portland pandemic/political inanity.

Been many years for me as well. I was prompted to go by a traveling partner, author and historian. He found a book he had written and asked permission to autograph it, which was immediately approved with many thanks from the clerk. Never seen a store like Powells before, or since. Had dinner at the Portland City Grill. Spectacular views of Mt. Hood from the 30th floor. Not sure which I enjoyed more, Powell's or the Grill.

[ToloNews] At least one person was killed and seven others were maimed on Saturday in a kaboom in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country.. province.
Eyewitnesses said the blast was due to a mine placed in a street vase.
Provincial hospital officials said one person was killed and seven others were maimed and all were transferred to the hospital. They did not give any details about the identity of those killed and maimed.
Those maimed said the earth-shattering kaboom happened when a Taliban ...Arabic for students... forces vehicle was crossing the street.
Local officials have not been reached for comment.
Eyewitnesses said civilians and Taliban members are among those maimed.
The explosion comes as over the last two days eight bodies have been found in different areas of Jalalabad city.
No group has grabbed credit for the attack.
But it’s probably the local branch of ISIS — they’ve claimed recent kabooms in Jalalabad. Al Ahram adds:
Taliban spokesperson Mohammad Hanif said the person wounded in the attack is a municipal worker.
An official at Nangarhar provincial hospital said the bomb killed a Taliban militant and wounded seven others, including four civilians. He spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not allowed to speak to media.
[Garowe] A huge explosion was reported in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Saturday morning, in an attack that comes amid ongoing elections and sharp dispute between outgoing President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmaajo and PM Mohammed Hussein Roble.
Witnesses said the earth-shattering kaboom took place in the vicinity El-Gab of Mogadishu close to the checkpoint of the Presidential Palace. It's not clear who was the immediate target but the area is near Villa Somalia, which hosts President Farmaajo and his staff.
Some witnesses reported that a kaboom from a boom-mobile near a checkpoint leading to the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu hit a number of vehicles moving towards the busy checkpoint, manned by security forces
Multiple casualties have been reported but at the time of going to the press, the exact number of those who died and, or suffered serious injuries could not be established. Rescue teams have arrived at the scene to evacuate civilians and members of security forces
The explosion went off at 10:50 a.m., Mogadishu time. In Somalia, Saturday I a normal working day given that majority of the residents are Moslems who usually rest on Friday before embarking on normal businesses throughout the weekend.
Al-Shabaab ...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... has immediately taken responsibility for the blast on its proxy media outlets. al-Shabaab is known for such attacks targeting government buildings, military bases, and upscale hotels in the country.
The group has been targeting members of the security forces, innocent civilians, and senior government officials. For over 12 years, al-Shabaab has been activating attacks across the country, with an aim of toppling the fragile UN-backed Somalia administration.
Also, the attack comes hours after the African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... [AnNahar] Fighting flared up this week between Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... 's Iran's Houthi sock puppets ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him... rebels and pro-government forces in the country's southern province of Shabwa, killing 35 from both sides, tribal leaders and security officials said.
Clashes are now in their third day in several districts of the largely government-controlled province, including Bayhan and Usaylan, said the officials and the elders. Dozens have been maimed on both sides, they said.
Yemen has been convulsed by civil war since 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthis captured the capital, Sanaa, and much of the north of the country, forcing the internationally recognized government to flee to the south, then to Saudi Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century... A Saudi-led coalition entered the war in March 2015, backed by the United States, to try restore the government to power. Despite a relentless air campaign and ground fighting, the war has tanked largely into a stalemate and spawned the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
In Shabwa, government forces regained control of some of the areas that Houthis had captured earlier this week, the officials said. The officials and the elders spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.
The rebel offensive on Shabwa is believed to be aimed at disrupting a key line of communication through which pro-government reinforcements are sent to the central province of Marib, where fighting has been raging for several months.
The rebels have accelerated their push to take Marib in recent months, while escalating cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, ...back at the alley, Slats grabbed for his rosco... the Saudi-led coalition has launched dozens of Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s on towns in Marib — including Rahbah, Sirwah and Madghel — to back pro-government ground forces,

Had Trump's border restrictions remained in place, Señor Bonilla might never have been able to reach Lady's Island.
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] A security source reported that a Ottoman Turkish army camp was attacked with missile strikes on Friday. The source told Alghadeer that five missiles targeted the Zilkan camp north of djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... in which the Ottoman Turkish Army is stationed.

[NYPost] RAMALLAH — Israeli troops killed at least four Hamas militants in gun battles during raids on Sunday against one of the group’s cells in the occupied West Bank, an Israeli military spokesman said.
Israeli officials have long voiced concern that Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip, intends to gain strength in the West Bank and challenge its rival there, the Western-backed Palestinian Authority (PA), heightening security risks for Israel.
The incidents in the early hours of Sunday marked the most serious confrontations between Israel and Hamas in the West Bank in months and threatened to raise tensions in the territory and along the Israeli border with Gaza.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whose Fatah party lost control of Gaza to Hamas in internal fighting in 2007, accused Israel in a statement of "field executions against our people."
Hamas called on Palestinians in the West Bank "to escalate resistance against the occupier in all areas" in the wake of the raids. A Hamas spokesman said all the men were members of the group, which Israel and the West regard as a terrorist organization.
An Israeli military spokesperson said troops carried out five raids in the West Bank "in order to stop a Hamas terrorist organization cell from operating" and launching attacks.
"Three Hamas terrorists were killed in crossfire in the village of Biddu, southeast of Ramallah" in the central West Bank, the spokesperson said. "During the attempted arrest of a wanted suspect in the village of Burqin, a shootout evolved. One terrorist was killed."
Four others were arrested, the spokesperson said.
The Palestinian health ministry said four Palestinians had been killed in two shootouts in the central and northern West Bank.
En route to New York, where he addresses the U.N. General Assembly on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the operation was aimed against Hamas men "about to carry out terrorist attacks."
He said the Israeli forces had "engaged the enemy, and we back them completely."
Israel captured the West Bank and Gaza in a 1967 war. It withdrew troops and settlers from the Gaza Strip in 2005.
The PA, which seeks a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, exercises limited self-rule in the territory under interim peace deals with Israel

Four hundred would have been more to my liking, but four will do for now.
[IsraelTimes] Officers lightly hurt; police opened fire toward vehicle until it overturned during chase in northern city; officers say Airsoft pistol was found in car when it was searched.
Police said on Saturday that two men were arrested after a driver allegedly tried to ram a group of officers in the northern city of Kiryat Ata overnight, hitting and damaging a number of vehicles in the process.
Four coppers were lightly injured.
Police said in a statement that the incident occurred when officers tried to carry out a check on the vehicle and its driver. It was unclear what had raised their suspicions.
Police said that the driver then began to move the vehicle erratically, trying to hit the officers who were in the car’s path and damaging nearby vehicles.
The coppers on the scene chased the vehicle and opened fire toward it until the vehicle overturned. Neither of the suspects were maimed.
Police said that during a search of the car, an Airsoft pistol was discovered and sent for forensic testing.
Airsoft guns are toy firearms that fire spherical rounds, typically made of plastic, at a low velocity. They are often replicas of actual guns and are used for recreational purposes. They are, for the most part, not dangerous if used with eye protection.
The incident came just days after a police volunteer was killed and an officer seriously maimed in a ramming in the northern city of Nahariya. Hossam Zaghir, 32, a Druze father of two, had been volunteering since 2016, police said. He and Amir Abu Rish, a police officer, were seeking permits from workers at a construction site when they were hit by the vehicle inside the site. Zaghir was killed, while Abu Rish was injured. The main suspect, Nasim Sah, 44, from the Lower Galilee city of Arraba, reportedly confessed to the ramming. His remand was extended by eight days on Wednesday.
