Update: 230+ LAFD firefighters responding/at scene. Two medical copters staged on LAPD Hooper Heliport. @NBCLA aerial footage shows at least 10 gurneys staged and at least 5 tillers w/ stick extended.
A major fire broke out in Little Tokyo/downtown area of Los Angeles on Saturday at a hash oil supplier
Blaze occurred close to Skid Row residents, senior and low income housing forcing people to shelter indoors
Eleven firefighters were injured after an explosion occurred without warning while fire was being tackled
The fire has resulted in a massive response by the LA Fire Department with 230 firefighters now at the scene
The building was a warehouse for SmokeTokes, a supplier of 'butane honey oil'
Butane is an odorless gas that easily ignites, and it's used in the process to extract the high-inducing chemical THC from cannabis plants to create a highly potent concentrate also known as hash oil

When you shut down things capriciously and arbitrarily, systems that support 'normal' now are left to deal with their loads without adjustments. Just saying.
[Jstor.org] Microbiologist Maurice Hilleman saw it coming, so the country made 40 million doses of the vaccine within months.
Key paragraph:
Hilleman knew the strain would be introduced to America by travelers returning from epidemic areas in the Far East. It was a matter of when, not if. At the time, people couldn’t yet cross the globe in a matter of 24 hours, so unlike today, American doctors, microbiologists and epidemiologists had a little more time to prepare. Hilleman concluded that the new flu would hit the US in the fall of 1957. At the time he was able to work directly with vaccine manufacturers—bypassing “the bureaucratic red tape” as he called it—so he asked them to start making the vaccines. The Public Health Service released the first cultures of the Asian influenza virus to manufacturers on May 12, 1957

At the time, people couldn’t yet cross the globe in a matter of 24 hours...
Again, the prior administration violated the principle why we had an Ellis Island, so old diseases returned to America. Too many light flickers - people who have zero understanding of why the light goes on when you flick the switch.
[SPUTNIKNEWS] Greta "Pippi" Thunberg ...an autistic sixteen year old Swedish expert on climate change... has been picked to star in a new music video for Pearl Jam's environmental doom tune "Retrograde", with the prominent teenage climate alarmist playing a fortune teller who warns of imminent climate disasters, the video's director revealed.
Speaking to Variety, the video's director Josh Wakely confirmed that the psychic was in fact Swedish teenager Thunberg. Wakely added that the band had planned to film live footage but were forced to scrap the plans due to the raging coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague) ...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men... pandemic and related lockdown.
"Something Pearl Jam has done so extraordinarily well for 30 years is to speak truth to power and fire warning shots", he said. "Several other Gigaton songs spoke to me, but this one kept me up at night".
Wakely noted he had chosen Thunberg because her presence helped render the necessary "emotion" in what has been conceived as a provocative promo video, dubbing her "an absolute stone-cold hero" for her relentless climate change struggle.
The animated music video shows a man visit a fortune-teller, Greta Thunberg, who presents him with a crystal ball. As the man gazes into it, he witnesses melting glaciers and devastating floods hitting Manhattan, Gay Paree, Seattle, and London, while wildfires continue to devour Australia.

Have you seen the collection of rather creepy tattoos going about?
The vidoe, why do I picture a '78 Lord of the Rings knock-off, some animated hobbit/Na'vi critter all looking about anxious when a live action druid viking Greter...wait wait wait..like crystal ball fortune teller, or cards, or see what the bones say? Do people just skip the story board nowadays, or do they just powerpoint it in?
Pearl Jam so old, the album is named after a character in the animated Transformers.
Greta the Skald disembarks her schooner 78 LOTR style of the horse riders, donned in spear and magic helmet. The brandish's the Producer's Bauble of Fortune, a magic 8-ball. It goes into a supercut of Oliphants dying out.
Then a couple lines.
*ominous voice*
"You must go to the Gigaton system."
"The Gigatonne system?"
"No, the Gigaton system. There you find the Ticketmaster, Pearl Jam, the 90s Seattle Grunge who instructed me."

"Greter! eeggh."

Since retirement homes are closed, we use some olde VHS footage from when they could run and even jump, put some Dire Strait's Money for Nothing type graphics on them and play at 1.2x speed so we don't hear the arthritis catch up with the riffs.

It needs a dramatic ending.
OK, Fantasia's Night on Bald Mountain type scene, only instead of mountain devil, it is a lake with dystopian steam-punk machines eating the trees into wood chips, which then get made into printed money.
Ave Greta, walks up the mountain with two river smelt perched in her cupped hands. She places them in the polluted lake and voila, the water turns clear and a Fern Gully forest sprouts and dissolves the machines. Sponge Bob rainbow, no, double rainbow, materializes.

We went out the other morning to see a flyby pass over our part of Cincinnati. I heard the thunder, but was looking the wrong way when they passed so quickly over the trees behind our house that Mr. Wife missed the photo.
That does explain, I suppose, why those poor Syrian anti-aircraft crews keep missing Israeli bomb runs so completely.
from a pre print U of Chicago study
[News-Medical.net] Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to Positive COVID-19 Test
The study by researchers at the University of Chicago looked at over 4,300 patients with COVID-19 of whom 499 had been tested for vitamin D levels in the previous year. Based on this, they were divided into likely deficient (25%), likely adequate (58%), and uncertain (16%).
Multiple variables were analyzed in this study. The researchers found that people with vitamin D deficiency at the last testing, and who did not receive higher doses of vitamin D (keeping them deficient in all probability), are much more likely to be infected with the virus than those with probably sufficient levels. The corresponding rates of infection were 22% vs. 12%. the study even has this
Vitamin D deficiency is more common in black Americans due to the dense concentration of the ultraviolet-blocking chemical in the skin. Since this community has been disproportionately affected by COVID-19, in terms of both sickness and death, it would be wise to offer vitamin D testing to them.

Preprint. Be careful about accepting anything until its been checked (and be aware of who is doing the checking and what motives they may have). But taking Vit D supplements and simply getting sunshine and fresh air isnt a bad idea anyway.

Grom, the people lying with statistics thus far have generally been the ones trying to "prove" that simple, cheap treatments like HCQ and Vitamin D don't work and we need to Lock Down And Wait For the Vaccine And Bill Gates' Mark of the Beast instead. I'm going to take vitamin D in the meantime.
#5
what is truly sad is that I don't think that NIH or CDC or the Surgeon General will say,
'take one or two pills of D each day, especially if you have dark skin because it will help prevent the virus'
I think they won't say it because then some people will say, 'why didn't you tell us this back in February' and others will be angry because they want to blame racism for the high death rate in Black areas and the vitamin D thing ruins their narrative

So sorry Thing, but I wrote a term paper for naturopathy student a few years ago. The idea was, since so many treatments use vitD as supplement - maybe it, by itself would be enough (the natural way!!!). Turned out, any treatment involving steroids depletes vitD - and that's why D supplements go with treatments.
But you can take as much as you want - you'll just piss the excess.
This is #NYC tonight. Manhattan, not a right wing backwater. People are ready to start reopening and our businesses and workers need it. I was about to be happy at the fact that the percentage of wu positive tests in the USA is way down in the past month.
Then I realized that the mix of devices used for testing have changed and the sample of the population being tested has changed. So no reason to be happy on that basis.
The futility of analysis.

[NYP] - A leaked database from a Chinese military-run university suggests the country may have at least 640,000 COVID-19 cases — a figure substantially higher than Beijing’s dubious claim that it has seen just 80,000 coronavirus infections.
The virus tracker, compiled by China’s National University of Defense Technology and leaked to Foreign Policy magazine, appears to confirm fears that the nation’s Communist government is hiding the true nature of the outbreak that originated in Wuhan late last year. Not enough vitamin D, eh?

[BREITBART] The FBI announced on Thursday that it has arrested Dr. Qing Wang, a longtime employee of the famed Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone, ...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich ... Clinic, on charges of fraud for accepting grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) without disclosing that he was simultaneously working for a Chinese university.
"This is not a case of simple omission. Dr. Wang deliberately failed to disclose his Chinese grants and foreign positions and even engaged in a pervasive pattern of fraud to avoid criminal culpability," said Eric B. Smith, FBI Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Cleveland office.
"As alleged in the complaint, this defendant misled the National Institutes of Health about support he received and research he conducted in the People’s Republic of China," said Justin Herdman, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. "Federal law enforcement remains vigilant to fraudulent claims for grant support from any researcher who fails to disclose support from foreign governments and competing research interests in other countries."
Robert R. Wells, Acting Assistant Director of the FBI Counterintelligence Division, made the espionage connection, saying, "As this case demonstrates, Chinese government-supported talent plans continue to encourage people, regardless of nationality, to commit crimes, such as fraud to obtain U.S. taxpayer-funded research."
[NeoWin] Back in March, Netflix announced that the company will be reducing streaming quality in parts of Europe, Australia, India and some Latin American countries. The streaming giant took the decision to ensure that the network infrastructure was not overloaded as people were staying at home and almost everyone was relying on the internet to get things done. "Reduced Streaming Quality = "We hired the Obamas"
Since countries around the world are now starting to open up, Netflix has decided to restore the streaming quality. According to Gizmodo UK, users in Denmark, Norway, and Germany have reported that the streaming quality is now back up to 4K and up to 15 Mb/s. Netflix has opted for a phased rollout to make sure they don't end up overloading the infrastructure. The company told the aforementioned publication:

Looks like Pomade Boy has a sick sense of humor - a thug's humor, like the guy who beats the crap out of an old man and then stands over him saying, "Boo hoo, you've bloodied your shirt now, haven't you..."
Here's the thuggish Pomaded one, addressing the millions whose livelihoods his idiotic lockdown has destroyed (yes, this is actually a direct quote):

Clue for you: YOU devastated OUR savings. YOU destroyed our children's future. YOU destroyed our life's work over nothing, with no basis in medical science, with an absurd lockdown that you imposed MONTHS AFTER the virus had been circulating among and had infected over a million in this state.

State sales tax revenue is directly proportional to sales. State income tax revenue is directly proportional to income.
If you take measures to reduce sales and income drastically, then state tax revenue will also decline. I know that both mathematics and economics are hard; but that is simply the case.

[Washington Examiner] New applications for unemployment benefits totaled over 2.9 million last week, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
Economists had projected 2.7 million new jobless claims.
The number of workers seeking aid remains historically high but has dropped considerably from the nearly 7 million claims that were filed the week ending March 28.
Since the economy halted in mid-March to slow the spread of the coronavirus, 36.5 million workers have filed for unemployment benefits, an unprecedented figure since the federal government began tracking unemployment in the 1930s.
Jobless claims have skyrocketed. This week last year, there were only 217,000 new claims made. Similarly, more than 25 million workers claimed benefits in all programs for the week ending April 25. That figure was 1.6 million for the same week in 2019.
In California, the Labor Department shows, nearly a third of workers, 27.7%, were unemployed for the week ending April 25. In Michigan, nearly a quarter were jobless, 23.1%, for the same week.
The largest job losses last week occurred in Connecticut, where over 298,000 filed for benefits, a figure that is not adjusted for seasonal variations.
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Wednesday warned that the job crisis could cause lasting damage.

...only problem is that 'generous' unemployment is unsustainable when the tax based goes south. Watch the volume go up on local and state government bailouts.

Did such considerations stop you from going into Somalia?
The military asked to bring in M1s, but Clinton's SecDef said no. Les Aspin if I recall. The problem isn't the military, but the pols who want to look like they're doing something but don't want to actually execute honest to goodness, bloody, destructive, no holds bar war. BTW, we got into Somali because the Legacy Infotainment Enterprises played everyone with the 'crisis' and something had to be done narrative. I sat there watching the 'news' and knew exactly what they were doing.

As for unemployment, that is a time-limited benefit. Not to mention this, from g(r)omgoru’s HotAir article in #1:
A big reason: a substantial beef-up of unemployment insurance via the coronavirus economic stimulus.
Month 1 had the $1200 stimulus payment. Month 2 and beyond will not, despite the trumpeting of that new stimulus bill that just passed in the House — Senator McConnell announced in response that no new stimulus efforts will be considered for quite some time in the Senate, at least until the last round’s monies have all been paid out and the results analyzed to see if there really is further need.
#18
Sorry. I just woke up, or I would have read beyond that sentence from the HotAir article before posting. The next bit adds:
As noted by The Daily Wire, the federal government’s $2 trillion CARES relief package greenlit an additional $600 per week in unemployment insurance for those sidelined by COVID-19-related closures.
The $600 figure was chosen because it would raise the average payment from last year — roughly $370 weekly — to the average lost 2020 salary (approximately $970).
But with states opening up, the feds should have justification to cut off that largess soon, first by accepting no new applications, then by cutting off payments to those called back.
[AnNahar] French police on Saturday arrested one of the last key suspects in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, describing him as its "financier" and one of the world's most wanted runaways.
Felicien Kabuga, once one of Rwanda's richest men, was living under a false identity in the Gay Paree suburbs, the public prosecutor's office and police said in a joint statement.
The operation, carried out at dawn, resulted in the arrest of a runaway "who has been sought by the judicial authorities for 25 years", the statement said.

[RT] France has threatened to quarantine incoming Spanish nationals, after the government in Madrid announced it would quarantine all incoming travelers. Across Europe, the reopening of borders is anything but smooth.
The Spanish government announced on Wednesday that all travelers arriving from overseas will be subject to a 15-day quarantine, effective from Friday. Arrivals from France will be quarantined for 10 days, Reuters reported. These travelers will be locked down in their hotels or accommodation, and allowed out only to shop for groceries or visit healthcare facilities.
The Elysee Palace hit back on Thursday, warning that France would retaliate with a similar measure, should the Spanish plan go ahead. The retaliation would apply to all countries restricting access for French citizens, an official at the palace told Reuters.
These tit-for-tat restrictions appear to clash with the EU Commission's guidelines on re-opening, published on Wednesday. According to the guidelines' "principle of non-discrimination," member states should "allow travel from all areas, regions or countries in the EU with similar epidemiological conditions."
The overall aim of the EU's guidelines is to reopen much of the formerly borderless Schengen area in time for the vacation season, in a bid to save the union's vital tourism industry. Europe accounts for half of the global tourist market, so rescuing this industry is of vital importance for Brussels.
However, the EU has no power to actually dictate border policy, and can only urge its members to go along with its proposals. Ultimately, each state is responsible for its own borders. Though Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson told MEPs last week that the Commission rejects selective border openings, that hasn't stopped member states from making up their own rules....
[SummitNews] Eerie 2012 document painted eurocrats as saving the planet from a killer virus and draconian lockdowns.
A strange comic book that was commissioned for publication by the European Union in 2012 eerily predicted almost exactly what has unfolded with the Covid-19 global pandemic. However, in this propaganda laced presentation of the outbreak, unelected globalist bureaucrats save the planet.
The comic book, titled ’Infected’, was a production of the European Commission’s international cooperation and development arm. It was not intended for widespread public consumption, but instead to be distributed inside EU institutions. Only a few hundred of the comic books were made.
The EU’s description of the strange publication states that "While the story may be fictional, it is nevertheless intertwined with some factual information."
The graphic novel depicts scientists inside a lab in China experimenting with deadly pathogens comic book graphics follow....
Was this predictive programming or just a bizarre coincidence?
In 2020, in reality, the EU has pandered to China, and bowed to censorship regarding the virus outbreak.
The EU has also been heavily criticised by member states and insiders for monumental failings owing to internal bureaucracy. The EU's science chief even resigned due to the inept coronavirus response from the institution.
In the Eurocrats' own fiction, globalism saves the planet. In reality, it ends in mass death and global tyranny.

As a student of geography, I know that plagues of locusts are unprecedented. At least in the modern meaning of 'unprecedented' which is "has not occurred since the last time it happened".
[National-Justice] Commune Magazine, a flashy and professional looking "antifa" publication that sought to provide intellectual direction to the anarchist movement, announced yesterday that it would discontinue its operations and refund all its subscribers.
The catalyst for this decision were allegations that an unnamed editor had raped another left-wing activist. A source familiar with the matter has confirmed to National Justice that the alleged rapist is Shyam P. Khanna, a 31-year-old anarchist organizer based in Brooklyn. Male feminist accused of rape. Where have I heard that one before?
According to a March 28 Medium post by Jessica "Leila" Raven, Khanna had been abusing her and then committed a rape against her. Raven then confronted him, demanded an apology and asked him to read four feminist essays. After Khanna agreed to read the articles, he raped her again, the accuser says. I highly recommend clicking through and reading the open letter. The woman is clearly batshit crazy. Sample text: "You asked me many times: "Why me? Why do you keep coming back?" I told you that I was listening to my body, and my body was hooked. I didn’t know then, but I know now, that when post-traumatic stress disorder is activated, it can feel a lot like being turned on."
A second post, dated May 7th, repeats the allegations and details a prolonged campaign to have him removed from Commune Mag's staff. Good thing she's accusing an antifa member and not Joe Biden.
Khanna appears to be heavily involved with the "antifa" scene in New York City. On social media, his now deleted account @dollarpizza1 can be seen repeatedly interacting with Jamie Peck of the Antifada podcast as well as Doug Henwood, a wealthy anti-white figure who has been accused of predatory and strange sexual behavior himself. Always with the pizza, these people.
While Commune Mag has been canceled, it appears that two editors accused of protecting him, UC Davis professor Joshua Clover and Berkeley's Jasper Bernes, are going to continue their similarly named anarchist poetry project Commune Editions in spite of demands that they shut it down as well.
