But it's nice to have one of your Bloids - Fred has been busy recovering from his latest surgery, and Dr. Steve has had an increased patient load due to Obamacare, so we've been going without more often than not for a bit.

Afghanistan
Dozens of Afghan troops defect to Taliban in Helmand fighting
[Rooters] At least 65 Afghan soldiers have defected to the Taliban, taking their weapons and equipment with them and 88 have been killed in days of heavy fighting in the volatile southern province of Helmand, the local provincial Governor said on Saturday.

The latest losses underline the heavy toll being exacted on Afghan security forces, now fighting largely alone since international troops ended most combat operations last year.

Police and soldiers have been engaged in near-continuous combat with insurgents for the past three weeks in the districts of Lashkar Gah, Marjah and Nadali in Helmand, one of the Islamist movement's traditional strongholds.

Although they have so far repelled Taliban efforts to take the provincial capital Lashkar Gah, they have not been able to push back the insurgents decisively from areas around the city.

"Soldiers from an Afghan army brigade in Station area have joined the Taliban with their equipment and weapons," Helmand Governor Mirza Khan Rahimi said. He said a team had been sent to the town of Sangin to investigate the incident.

Insurgents Still Control 40 Percent of Imam Sahib
Local officials in northern Kunduz said on Friday that insurgents still control 40 percent of Imam Sahib district in the province.

Up to 1,500 insurgents along with 200 foreign militants, many of whom are involved in bomb making processes, still operate in the area and fight security forces, local officials said on Friday.

"Those who plan suicide bombings, explosions and make mines are the foreigners, including Tajik engineers who design the mines and conduct explosions," said Imam Sahib district governor Imamuddin Quraishi.

Residents in the center of Imam Sahib district have said however that the security situation has improved recently.

"Security exists inside the district center, but outside, there is security forces but also the enemy," a resident of Imam Sahib, Haji Khanzada said.

"War between the two sides has had a major impact on businesses and poor people, the economy declines day by day," another resident Lailuma said.

Located in the northern part of Kunduz province, Imam Sahib district has been the hub of insurgency in recent times. The district shares a common border with Tajikistan.

According to local security officials, the majority of foreign militants fighting against security forces in the area are Tajik militants.

Khak-e-Afghan District an ISIS Stronghold: Security Sources
Local security officials in southern Zabul said on Thursday that the Khak-e-Afghan district has become a Daesh stronghold and that Afghan forces retreated from the area eight years ago.

Security sources added that in this time no military operation has ever been launched to retake the district and that Afghan forces have never battled Daesh in the area.

The statement comes after officials in Kabul have maintained that military operations were carried out – specifically to rescue 31 passengers taken hostage by Daesh eight months ago.

This latest development follows on the heels of the beheading of seven Zabul residents by Daesh militants a few days ago. Among the victims were three women.

The barbaric act meanwhile sparked countrywide outrage which resulted in tens of thousands of people taking to the streets of various cities around the country in protest over the incident.

Meanwhile, Zabul provincial council officials criticized government over not being able to take action against Daesh militants and not monitoring border regions with Pakistan. They said the open border enables Daesh and Taliban militants to come and go freely between the two countries.

Located along the Kabul-Kandahar highway, Zabul has always been a dangerous area for travelers.

Residents in Khak-e-Afghan district say they are tired of Daesh in their area and many families have fled their homes in the past few days due to Daesh activity.

Residents claim Daesh militants commit all manner of brutality and suppression against them and that many of them have had their homes seized by Daesh militants.

A resident said: "They (Daesh) have seized homes by force and have said they bought the properties."

Eight months have passed since Daesh started its activities in the district, there are some rumors that nearly 800 families associated with Daesh live in Khak-e-Afghan district, said officials.

Attaullah Haqparast, a member of the Zabul provincial council said: "Uzbek and Chechen along with Arab militants are fighting (in the area). They are supported by Pakistan's spy agency ISI and receive resources through Pakistan."

Meanwhile, President Ashraf Ghani said: "During this period the place of holding hostages was changed 56 times. In order to keep them from the security forces and from military operation rescue attempts. As a result of these operations we managed to free 19 of the 31 hostages on one occasion and a further eight during another operation."

Zabul police chief Ghulan Jailani Farahi said: "Until now we have not fought Daesh face-to-face and they have never come out to fight with us directly."

Zabul security officials have confirmed that Taliban and Daesh fighters have fought each other on a number of occasions in Khak-e-Afghan district and neighboring areas in recent months.

Africa Horn
Shaboobs retake Somali town from AU troops
The African Union troops in Somalia have withdrawn from Fiidow, a strategic town in middle Shabelle region, giving Al shabaab militants full access to retake it peacefully. Confirming the capture of the town, Mahaday district commissioner Ahmed Hussein told Radio Shabelle by phone that residents in Fiidow woke up on Friday morning to militants moving into the city after AMISOM retreated in mid last night.

The Govt officials in the region have described the withdrawal of Fiidow as “military tactics” and vowed to fresh offensive to recapture the city and the remaining Al shabaab strongholds in middle Shabeelle region.

Fiidow, is a small city on the dividing line between middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions that could allow Al shabaab to carry out attacks in both regions.

UK's Special Recon Regiment patroling streets of London
[Telegraph] Elite Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR) backing up undercover armed police officers as extra uniform police step up security at key public locations.

Britain launched the largest security response since 7/7 last night as counter terrorism sources revealed up to 450 radicalised Britons have returned to the UK from Syria.

Special forces were deployed on the streets to monitor stations, shopping centres and key pubic places amid fears the UK could be the next target for an Isil terror outrage.
Personnel from the elite Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR) were backing up undercover armed police officers to protect the UK in the wake of the Paris massacre.

It can also be disclosed that Scotland Yard is currently investigating 600 terror cases related to Syria and Iraq.

'THIS TIME, IT'S WAR': How French newspapers are covering the terror attacks
[Bus Insider - Auz] Roughly 150 people have been reported dead and more injured in terrorist attacks at seven locations around Paris.

Special operations troops stormed the Bataclan theatre, a concert venue in the 10th Arrondissement, where attackers were holding people hostage and shooting them one by one. More than 100 people are believed to have been killed in that attack.

Elsewhere, there were bombing attacks on the Stade de France where France were playing Germany, and there were shootings at a bar, a restaurant, and a shopping centre.

Philip Bromwell, a journalist with Irish national broadcaster RTE, tweeted this round-up of the Saturday French newspaper covers.

"L'horreur", declares Equipe, needing no translation.

Le Parisien says: "This time, it's war", while Le Figaro also says "War right in Paris".

#14  We are not fighting ISIS, ISSL, AQ, or any other dreamed up unit name. We ARE fighting ISLAM. Its not radical ISLAM, it is Islam as a culture, religion, and way of life. This PC crap about "lets not go there" is how we will loose this war on Christian values and the Western way of life. The culture of everyone gets a trophy and its not the religion but the bad guys in it is just wrong. They infiltrated the West praying on our good cristian values of helping refugees. The refugees were their Trojan horse, now they are loose inside our culture.
Look at it from a military perspective, they are fighting and winning, we are losing. They sent fighters to Iraq and Syria. Then they returned to build the infrastructure to receive the next eschelon of soldiers. They came as refugees, we paid for them and brought them here. They have massed and now are beginning to disrupt our rear area just like any good doctrin would perscribe. They will now attack in mass. What will we do? Nothing... We are paralized with fear of being called bigots or racists. If we put them on trains and send them packing we will be called Nazis. The same if we burn down their Mosquse. Worse yet when we even discuss it we are called out by the moderators and told to not go there. We need to go there! we need to discuss a way ahead, it wont be pretty or kind, our enemy is brutal and cruel, we have to defeat them and we need to be more cruel than they could imagine. Their mothers strap bombs on their babies and blow them up, without remorse. And we are worried that something written here might offend. Understand, and I HAVE SAID THIS SINCE THE BURG STARTED, If we are not willing to enguage in total war with ISLAM we should surrender. We need to make the cost of war with us so extreem that they refuse to fight any longer. They dont care about life, we have to destroy what they care about in order to win and that is ISLAM. If you dont like what I say, disagree, but we as a nation had better start talking about the ugly truth, because the last ten years and ALL my dead friends are just a prelude to our future if we dont!

#16  Well said 49Pan. We are losing more an more of our culture everyday due to these vermin. When is enough going to be enough? How many innocent civilians are going to have to be prayed upon before we put a stop to this?
Posted by: bbrewer126 || 11/14/2015 15:14 Comments || Top||

#17  This is a tough discussion. Nobody around here wants genocide. Period. We want to kill or neutralize the enemy and provide safety for our citizens and our allies. The difficulty lies within how to handle the vast numbers of enemy. If there are 30+ thousand active ISIS in Syria alone and you add in all the other Jihadis from around the globe (Iraq, Afghan, all the other ME Countries, Somalia and the other Muslim African Nations, Indonesia, etc., etc.) the numbers are huge. For every one active fighter there are probably 10 support people who provide financing, weapons, training, documents, etc. Then you add in all the passive support from families and friends. You get some huge numbers. So if the idea is to focus on the enemy alone the numbers are HUGE. To handle this matter decisively will be exceedingly difficult and ugly. And the longer the world waits to take action the worse it gets.

Remember that ALL MUSLIMS emulate mohamed...the guy who in Medina, beheaded one thousand Banu Qureiza Jews, men women and children, then tortured their chief for his gold, cut his head off too then raped his young wife on top of his still palpitating body...DAESH(the real name of ISIS) is just trying...still far from a thousand for one muslim...
No, indeed we will have to nuke the lot...if our effete leaders dont do it, Pooty Poot will not hesitate...

#22  It is too late for France...all the cities are surrounded by "Zones sans lois"(Outside the law zones) where ambulances, firemen and the police just cannot venture...no go zones unless you are Legionnaires or spetsnaz with tank, artillery AND aviation support...when the time come, soon, they will choke all the highways to town, all the railways will blow and it will be the siege of Beirut all over Europe...But is America all that much better with Looie Farrakhan and Barry Hussein in charge?

#26  Let us not confuse genocide on a defenseless population with total war against a merciless, armed enemy.

Well said, KBK. Genocide would mean killing every one of the one billion or so Muslims in the world, down to the babes in arms. But that is not necessary to destroy Islam as a triumphalist ideology.

The only proof of Islam's rightness, claimed from the beginning by the Prophet Mohammed himself and by all who followed him, is successful expansion by conquest.

But Islam's conquests were stopped and reversed by the West, starting in the 18th century. Through the middle of the 20th century, by its own key measurement Islam was proved to be a losing ideology, demonstrably lacking proof of Allah's approval. That the Muslim world subsequently achieved self rule was not the result of Muslim superiority in warfare, but because the Western conquerers chose to allow them self rule, and even kowtowed to those nations which had oil to sell, particularly Saudi Arabia and Mullah-ruled Iran.

On the other hand, the inferiority of Muslim societies compared to the West has been obvious, leading some to attempt to purify beliefs in the hope of regaining the favour of Allah and therefore regaining the ability to conquer the world that is the proof of Islam's rightness. Destroy the home territories of ISIS, Boko Haram, Al Shabaab, Al Qaeda in Arabia, Hamas, Hizb'allah, and so forth, and the failed idea will be less attractive to the Muslim underclass of Europe and Britain.

This will need to be coupled with some major changes in European and Britain society, however. The generous support of the unemployed will have to end -- independent of no longer being able to afford it, idle hands are the Devil's playground; after working 40-60 hours a week, those Muslim yoots will have considerably less time and energy for mischief. And misbehaviour can no longer be tolerated, but must be attacked with certain arrrest and long jail terms, American style. The
Broken Window theory has been demonstrated in New York City and elsewhere.

Should Europe choose not to make those changes, and to decisively return those immigrants they don't want, despite the fact that their home countries (and Africa) don't want them back, they will indeed be lost... for a while, at least.

We've seen in New York City how quickly things can go from bad to good -- the Broken Window approach of Rudy Guiliani -- and how quickly from good to bad -- that ideologue de Blasio. And also how many people have become gun owners over the years since Barack Obama first ran for president. America is the one country that is not like the others.

20 Members of French Jihadist Cell to Face Trial
[AnNahar] Twenty members of a suspected jihadist cell who attacked a Jewish grocery and had ties to jihadists in Syria are to face trial after prosecutors said they had a case to answer.

The prosecutors put forward their case earlier this week, a judicial source told AFP on Friday.

Judges will now decide whether the trial will go ahead.

When it was dismantled in late 2012, the "Cannes-Torcy cell" was branded by counter-terrorism officials as the most dangerous jihadist group in La Belle France.

It was said to be planning numerous attacks, including against soldiers in the south of La Belle France, and had ties to Syrian jihadists.

Police locked away
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
members of the cell, now aged between 21 to 32, while investigating a grenade attack on a Jewish grocery in the Gay Paree suburb of Sarcelles in September 2012.

Two masked men threw a grenade into the grocery, injuring one person, but the fact it rolled under a trolley prevented worse injuries.

Police found bomb-making equipment in a storage unit rented by Jeremie Bailly, 28, the alleged leader of the group.

Another suspected member, Jeremie Louis-Sydney, a petty criminal who had converted to radical Islam, was killed in October 2012 when police came to arrest him at his apartment in the eastern city of Strasbourg.

Another three members of the group, all from Cannes, left for Syria shortly before the police operation.

Two of the men -- Ibrahim Boudina and Abdelkader Tliba -- were arrested after their return.

Boudina is accused of planning an attack somewhere on the French Riviera after he returned to La Belle France in April 2014.

The third, Abdelkader Tliba, has still not returned and is thought to have risen within the ranks of the Islamic State

Hollande declares state of emergency
French President Francois Hollande addressed the nation following attacks in several locations in Paris and announces that a state of emergency has been declared following the multiple attacks in Paris Friday.

Gunmen and bombers attacked busy restaurants, bars and a concert hall at locations around Paris on Friday, killing dozens of people in what a shaken President Francois Hollande described as an unprecedented terrorist attack. Police sources said at least 40 people were killed and 60 wounded in up to five attacks in the Paris region. French media reported higher unofficial death tolls.

The apparently coordinated gun and bomb assault came as the country, a founder member of the U.S.-led coalition waging air strikes against Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq, was on high alert for terrorist attacks ahead of a global climate conference due to open later this month.

Hollande, who was attending an international soccer match with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier when several explosions took place outside the national stadium, declared a state of emergency in the Paris region and announced the closure of France's borders to stop perpetrators escaping.

"This is a horror," the visibly shaken president said in a midnight television address to the nation before chairing an emergency cabinet meeting.

All emergency services were mobilised, police leave was cancelled and hospitals recalled staff to cope with the casualties.

Hollande said police were launching an assault at one of the attack sites as he spoke. A Reuters witness heard five explosions outside the Bataclan music hall, where up to 60 people were being held hostage. A second Reuters reporter later said police had completed an operation at the building. BMF TV said two gunmen had been killed.

Earlier, witnesses said an elite anti-terror unit had taken up positions outside the popular concert venue, which was attacked by two or three gunmen, who were reported to have shouted slogans condemning France's role in Syria.

"We know where these attacks come from," Hollande said, without naming any individual group. "There are indeed good reasons to be afraid."

3 Soldiers, 11 Kurdish Rebels Killed in Turkey Clashes
[AnNahar] Three Turkish soldiers and at least 11 members of the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) have been killed in festivities in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's restive eastern and southeastern regions, state officials said Friday.

Meanwhile the authorities have maintained a controversial curfew in the flashpoint southeastern town of Silvan, which has been under a military lockdown for 11 days.

The PKK Death Eaters were killed on Thursday in fighting with Turkish security forces during an operation in the Cizre and Silopi districts of southeastern Sirnak province, the provincial governor's office said in a statement Friday.

In the Van region of eastern Turkey close to the border with Iran, security forces launched a dawn raid on Friday following a tipoff that PKK Death Eaters were hiding in a house in the Ercis district, the army said in a statement on its website.

One soldier was killed and three others maimed after Death Eaters opened fire with long-range weapons from inside the house, the army said.

Also Friday, two soldiers were killed in a mine kaboom on a road in the Lice district of the southeastern Diyarbakir region blamed on the PKK, Turkish media said.

The deaths were the latest in a new wave of unrest that has rocked Turkey's mainly Kurdish regions since a two-year-old PKK truce fell apart in July, leaving over 150 members of the security forces and hundreds of suspected Death Eaters dead.

Hurriyet newspaper reported on Friday that some 10,000 residents had fled the battered town of Silvan, where local MPs have warned of dire shortages of water, food and electricity.

There have been reports of several fatalities, including both police police and civilians, as Turkish forces battle to wrest control of three districts of Silvan from Death Eaters belonging to the youth wing of the PKK.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Friday the anti-PKK offensive in the town was "largely complete", but added: "It will continue until peace has been restored in each neighborhood of Silvan."

"No one should test our determination," he told news hounds in Ankara.

Last Thursday, the PKK ended a unilateral truce it had declared before the November 1 election, which saw President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
's Justice and Development Party (AKP) win back a parliamentary majority.

Erdogan subsequently vowed to press on with the fight against the PKK until all its fighters are "wiped out."

ISIS takes wounded and dead from Shingal battle to Mosul

hospitals to only treat maimed myrmidons, Kurdish intelligence said Friday, as more than 300 maimed jihadists were transferred to the city after Peshmerga forces pushed the Lions of Islam out of Shingal (Sinjar).

At least 126 bodies of Lions of Islam of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. were taken to ISIS-held Mosul, after the Peshmerga launched a three-pronged assault that forced the Lions of Islam out of the Kurdish-Yezidi town they had occupied since August last year.

"Sinjar is liberated by the Peshmerga. I congratulate the people of Kurdistan, especially the Yezidis," Kurdish President Masoud Barzani told news hounds in Shingal Friday, after ISIS was driven out of the town.

Several thousand Peshmerga soldiers took part in the two-day offensive that regained Shingal city, where ISIS unleashed a rampage of murder, looting and the kidnapping of girls and women when it invaded in August 2014.

"Some 126 Lions of Islam have been moved to the Mosul State Hospital," Ismat Rajab who is the exiled director of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) office in Mosul, told Rudaw.

He said he based his information on intelligence his party had gathered from Mosul, some 100 kilometers from regional capital, Erbil.

Another KDP official, Fariq Farooq, director of the party's Amedi office, said some 300 maimed Lions of Islam have been relocated and are being treated in Mosul's hospital.

A Peshmerga commander in Shingal, Col. Ali Usman, told Rudaw on Thursday that at least two Peshmerga soldiers died in the offensive, in which hundreds of Lions of Islam were reportedly killed.

Peshmerga military sources have told Rudaw that at least three Lions of Islam were captured during the offensive, but the Peshmerga ministry has so far refrained from commenting on the reports.

Rudaw correspondents quoted Kurdish military sources as saying Thursday that coalition Arclight airstrikes targeted ISIS between Shingal and the township of Baaj, killing dozens of myrmidons.

KRG: ISIS ‘defeated and on the run’ in Shingal
[Rudaw] Peshmerga forces are inside Shingal (Sinjar) and have the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group (ISIS/ISIL) "defeated and on the run," the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) said Friday.

"Sinjar silo, cement factory, hospital and several public buildings now secured by brave Peshmerga. ISIL defeated and on the run," the KRSC tweeted early Friday, listing key places in the city under Kurdish control.

"Peshmerga forces now inside Sinjar from all directions to clear the area of remaining #ISIL terrorists," it said in a separate tweet.

The KRSC said that Kurdish President Masoud Barzani would "announce the success" of the Shingal operation at a presser later Friday.

Kurdish forces reached Shingal in the early hours of their offensive against ISIS on Thursday. By controlling a major highway, they have disabled the group from reinforcing its positions in the area, according to the KRSC.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said that by 5:00 pm Thursday the Peshmerga were in control of a significant part of a road leading to the ISIS stronghold of Ba'aj from where the group had deployed most of its suicide missions against the Kurdish forces.

The KRG said that some 7,500 Peshmerga were involved in the three-pronged attack on ISIS in Shingal.

The Pentagon said Thursday that Peshmerga forces are leading the fight in Shingal, with US and coalition advisors behind the frontlines assisting in choosing targets to be hit from the air.

"The Kurdish forces on the ground are leading this fight," Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook told news hounds in Washington.

Iraqi military advances on ISIS-held Ramadi
Iraq’s military said on Friday its forces had advanced on three fronts to begin clearing Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants from the western city of Ramadi, but police and government officials said progress was extremely slow.

The announcement by the joint operations command came as Kurdish forces declared victory over ISIS in the northern town of Sinjar, which could help build momentum in pushing back the hardline Sunni militants elsewhere.

But a suicide bomb attack in Baghdad and a second day of violence between Kurds and Shiite Turkmen further north were reminders of the ethnic and sectarian conflicts exacerbated by ISIS’s rise.

Iraqi forces appeared better positioned than ever this week to launch an offensive on Ramadi, 100 km (60 km) west of Baghdad, now that months-long efforts to cut off supply lines to the city are having an effect.

The city’s fall to ISIS in May was the biggest defeat for Iraq’s weak central government in nearly a year, dampening its hopes of quickly routing the insurgents from the country’s north and west.

Baghdad bombings targeting Shiites kill at least 19
Baghdad: Attacks targeting Shiites in Baghdad, including a suicide bombing at a funeral in a mosque, killed at least 19 people Friday, security and medical officials said.

The suicide bombing inside the Al-Ashara Al-Mubashareen mosque in the Amil area of south Baghdad killed at least 17 people and wounded 33, the officials said.

Two officials said the funeral was for a member of the volunteer paramilitary forces known as the Popular Mobilization units.

In the Sadr City area of north Baghdad, two roadside bombs exploded near another Shiite place of worship, killing at least two people and wounding nine.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but suicide bombings are a tactic used exclusively by Sunni extremists in Iraq, including the Islamic State group, which consider Shiites to be heretics.

The Popular Mobilization units, dominated by Iranian-backed Shiite militias, are some of the most effective forces in the battle against IS, which overran large parts of the country last year.
Al Ahram adds:
ISIS said in an online statement that it carried out two attacks in Sadr City and one at a funeral in Amil, but that all three were suicide kabooms.

ISIS considers Shias to be heretics, and frequently targets them with bombings in Baghdad.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian killed in West Bank in bid to grab soldier’s gun
[IsraelTimes] PA medical sources say protester rubbed out in festivities near Hebron; 3 others said hurt in Gazoo riots

Paleostinian was rubbed out by IDF troops on Friday evening as he tried to snatch a soldier's weapon near the West Bank city of Ramallah.

The man was identified as a 23-year-old from the village of Budrus, Army Radio said.

The Paleostinian Health Ministry statement announced "the death of a young man, Lafi Yusuf Awad, 22 years old, from the village of Budrus in the district of Ramallah, by a bullet from Israeli forces." It made no mention of the attempted theft of the gun.

Earlier in the day, a Paleostinian was rubbed out in festivities with troops in Hebron, hospital sources said.

Hassan al-Bo, 21, died in hospital after he was shot by live ammunition, an official at al-Ahli Hospital in Hebron said. He was said to be a resident of Halhul, a village north of Hebron.

Also Friday, a Paleostinian teenager in Hebron succumbed to his wounds after being shot by troops in festivities Thursday.

According to Israeli media, Paleostinians were rioting in several locations across the West Bank late Friday. Aside from Hebron, there were disturbances near Ramallah, Tulkarm, Qalqilya, Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem and at several West Bank junctions.

In the Gazoo Strip, Paleostinians confronted IDF troops near the coastal plain's northern and southern borders with Israel. According to Paleostinian sources, three people were maimed in the festivities.

More than 200 Paleostinians were treated during festivities on Friday, the Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy said, the majority after inhaling tear gas.

The fighting in Hebron occurred as two Paleostinians carried out a deadly terror attack south of the city, near the settlement of Otniel. Two Israelis -- a man in his 40s and his teenage son -- were killed in the attack, and five other family members were maimed by gunfire or treated for shock.

Two Israelis murdered near Hebron
Two Israelis were murdered and one injured when shots were fired at their vehicle near Hebron., the army and medical sources said. An unknown assailant opened fire on a car south of the city, the army said, killing a father and son and wounding a teenager.

"Two Israelis were murdered and one injured when shots were fired at their vehicle near Hebron" in a "terrorist" attack, the army said.

A statement added that the attacker fled and that "forces are currently searching the area."

Israeli police said the incident took place near the settlement of Otniel, south of Hebron.

Violence since the start of October, including a wave of Palestinian knife, gun and car-ramming attacks, has killed 79 people on the Palestinian side - including one Israeli Arab - and 12 Israelis. Many of the Palestinians killed were alleged attackers shot at the scene, while others died in clashes.

The violence was originally focused in and around Jerusalem but has recently shifted to the area of Hebron.

Sri Lanka
Tamils protest for Lanka prisoners’ release
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s Tamil provinces staged a shutdown Friday for the first time since the crushing of the Tamil Tiger rebels six years ago protesting at the government’s failure to release prisoners jailed over separatist violence.

Tamil political and civil society groups organized the shutdown in the island’s northern and eastern regions after the government rejected their demands for a universal amnesty, instead releasing 30 prisoners on bail. The northern capital Jaffna ground to a halt, residents told AFP by phone, with businesses, schools and state offices closed and public transport halted.

“Everything came to stop today. No one was seen on the road, no buses were running,” Govindan Kumaravel, a shop worker in Jaffna said.

Mavai Senathirajah, a Tamil lawmaker in Jaffna, said the shutdown was a “very useful protest” adding that it was “the first such (protest) in the north since the war ended in 2009.”

More than 100 Tamil prisoners went on hunger strike last month in protest at being held for years, many without charge, for suspected Tamil Tiger activity during the country’s bitter 37-year war. They halted their protest following an assurance from President Maithripala Sirisena to expedite their legal procedures.

But instead of the blanket amnesty for nearly 200 Tamil Tiger suspects, which protesters had demanded, authorities opted to grant conditional bail to about 30 prisoners Thursday.

“There is someone who has spent the last 26 years in jail without being charged. He was just 19 when he went to jail,” Dr. P. Sathyalingam, Health Minister in the Tamil-controlled northern provincial council said.

Tamil groups are also demanding the government repeal the anti-terrorism law implemented during the civil war used to arrest many of the prisoners.

President Sirisena was prevented from attending a planned opening of a court complex in the eastern town of Batticaloa Friday because of the shutdown, the Justice Ministry said.

The decades-long conflict killed more than 100,000 and ended in 2009 when government forces moved in to crush the rebels.

IS Claims Bourj Barajneh Bombing, Identifies its Attackers

group grabbed credit on Friday for the Bourj al-Barajneh bombing, saying that three jacket wallahs were behind the attack, reported Voice of Leb radio (100.5).

It identified them as Syrian Khaled al-Khaled and Paleostinians Hamed al-Balegh and Ammar Salem al-Rayyes.

General Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud and State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr later confirmed that the attack was carried out by two suicide bombers, but added that the possibility of a third attacker is still being investigated.

Conflicting media reports had emerged on the number of bombers behind Thursday's blast in Beirut's southern suburbs of Bourj al-Barajneh, a Hizbullah

stronghold.

Some claimed that three bombers were at the scene, two of whom succeeded in detonating their explosives vests, while the third failed and was killed by Hizbullah members at the scene, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Friday.

Other reports said that there were only two bombers.

Al-Joumhouria added that a fourth attacker was present, but he fled the area.

Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, deputy chief Ahmed Abdul Hadi denied later on Friday the involvement of Paleostinians in the Bourj al-Barajneh attack.

He said that the alleged names of the suicide bombers are of Paleostinians killed in Syria, reported Voice of Leb radio (100.5).
Hamasniks are fighting with IS in Syria? Interesting.
Twin suicide kabooms rocked a busy shopping street Thursday in Bourj al-Barajneh, killing 43 people and wounding 239 others, in the worst such attack in years.

YPG says it recaptured town of Hole, west of Shingal
Congratulations, guys!
[Rudaw] The Kurdish Peoples' Protection Units (YPG) said Friday it had captured the town of Hole in Syria, after Peshmerga forces across the border in Iraq liberated the Yezidi town of Shingal from an ISIS occupation.

YPG spokesperson Redur Xalil said US airpower and the forces of the Democratic Syria, an umbrella group which includes the YPG, had been crucial in recapturing the city.

The two victories by the Peshmerga and YPG mean that ISIS is effectively pushed back in both Shingal and Hole, which overlook the supply route between the ISIS strongholds of Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria.
"ISIS faceless myrmidons crossed the border and fled to Iraq after the festivities," Xalil told news hounds.

His comments came hours after the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga forces declared Shingal liberated of ISIS, which captured the Kurdish Yezidi town in August last year.

in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria.

The Islamic group has lost two strategic areas, according to military officials who have spoken to Rudaw on Friday.

Hole, southeast of the Kurdish city of Hasaka in Syria, was used by ISIS as the transit city between the two countries.
And now it won't be. Nice.

At least 100 fighters killed in Syria during storming of besieged airbase
[AlArabiya] At least 100 soldiers and fighters were killed in northern Syria in just over 24 hours of fierce fighting earlier this week as pro-government forces reached an airbase that had long been besieged by Islamic State, a monitoring group said on Thursday.

Most of those killed were Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants, followed by government forces and its allies, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The breaking of the siege was the most high-profile military victory for Syria's government since Russia intervened in the conflict with an air campaign on Sept. 30.

On Tuesday government troops reached the Kweires airbase in the northern province of Aleppo, where soldiers and officers had been holed up for nearly two years.

Recent offensives by government forces mostly against insurgents not linked to Islamic State in the west and northwest of Syria have been backed by Russian air strikes, as well as Iranian troops and Lebanese Hezbollah fighters.

But their progress has been limited at best, with rebels putting up fierce resistance and even advancing in some areas, such as in Hama province where certain areas have come under heavy bombardment.

US backed rebels captures key village of al-Hawl
HASAKAH – Fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) recaptured Friday a key town from the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) in the eastern countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, military sources reported.

Redur Khelil, the spokesman for the Kurdish YPG forces, told reporters in al-Hawl town that ISIS has fled the town after a fierce attack by the SDF forces.

The SDF is a Kurdish-Arab alliance backed by the U.S.-led international coalition. The YPG constitutes a main force of the alliance.

Speaking to ARA News in Hasakah, SDF fighter Shoresh Hisso said: “Our forces were able to liberate the key town of al-Hawl from the terror group after heavy battles.

“Our operations caused heavy losses in the ranks of Daesh (ISIS), forcing the remaining terrorists to escape,” he added.

The source pointed out that the U.S.-led coalition forces targeted a ISIS fighting positions in al-Hawl on Friday, “which facilitated our movement towards the major headquarters in the town”.

The Syrian Democratic Forces had announced the battle for al-Hawl on October 30. Over the last two weeks the Kurdish-Arab alliance continued its advance and regained large areas from ISIS in Hasakah province. Al-Hawl was the major ISIS stronghold in the province due to its strategic location on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

On Wednesday, the U.S.-backed SDF recaptured Bahrat al-Khatooniya village in the vicinity of al-Hawl town after fierce clashes with ISIS militants.

Al-Hawl, which is located some 40 kilometres (25 mi) east of Hasakah, holds a strategic location for being a key access to the Iraqi territory.

After losing al-Hawl, ISIS’s military and economic situation may deteriorate due to the cut of a main supply route between the group’s strongholds in Syria and Iraq.

Noteworthy, recapturing al-Hawl came hours after the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Iraqi Kurdistan took control of Shingal (Sinjar) district in Nineveh province after fierce battles with ISIS. In August 2014, ISIS launched a massive offensive on Shingal, causing a mass displacement of tens of thousands of Yezidi civilians and the captivity of thousands of women.

Turkish forces attack Kurd held Silvan
URFA – The Turkish army waged a battle by tanks, helicopters and aircraft on the Kurdish town of Silvan in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir under the pretext of combatting rebels of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), local sources reported on Friday.

Subsequent to nearly two weeks of curfew, clashes continue in the town where various kinds of weapons have been used by the Turkish army against PKK rebels, Turkish security sources stated.

Dozens of Turkish tanks have been roaming the streets of Silvan, pounding any single move in the besieged town, as the Turkish military warplanes and helicopters targeted several neighborhoods of the town where PKK rebels were allegedly stationed.

Kurdish activists reported that several residential neighborhoods, which security forces say they are hideouts of PKK insurgents, have been struck in Silvan.

“The military offensive caused dozens of civilian casualties in the town,” an eyewitness told ARA News.

Speaking to ARA News in Diyarbakir, media activist Shervan Kurtoglu confirmed that people of Silvan are trying to flee the war-torn town.

“They are trying to escape a certain death,” he said. “A number of civilians were killed while trying to escape from the embattled town.”

“Turkish helicopters fired missiles, demolishing a number of residential buildings in the town,” Kurtoglu told ARA News, pointing out “more than ten civilians have been killed and dozens others wounded in the army’s operation so far.”

ARA News could not verify the exact number of civilian casualties from other sources.

Separately, Figen Yüksekdağ, co-chair of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Peoples’ Party (HDP), was injured Thursday after being hit with a tear gas shell in her head while trying, with other members of the party, to break a siege imposed by the Turkish army on the town of Silvan.

Turkish police prevented the Kurdish delegation of HDP from breaking the siege. They were forced to leave the town under assault with water and tear gas shells, according to Kurdish activists.

In the meantime, a Turkish security officer was killed in clashes with PKK rebels east of the country, a security official said on Friday.

The security forces raided a PKK suspected house in Ircis district of the province of Van.

“PKK militants opened fire on the security forces, killing an officer,” the source said.

al-Nusra Front artillery pounds Kurd held villages near Aleppo
[ARA News] AFRIN – Militant fighters of the al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda branch in Syria) pounded two Kurdish villages in the Shirawa district in the area of Afrin, northern Aleppo province, local sources reported on Friday.

Several mortar shells hit the villages of Basufan and Baaya, where Yezidi Kurds constitute a majority.

Speaking to ARA News in Afrin suburb, media activist Sherin Saleh said that clashes broke out in the vicinity of the villages of Basufan and Baaya between local Kurdish forces and Nusra militants.

“Then al-Nusra terrorists launched an intensive attack with mortar fire on civilian houses, causing a mass displacement among the residents,” she said.

“The shells were launched from the nearby Castle of Samaan, which is under the control of the al-Nusra fighters and the Islamist group of Ahrar al-Sham,” she added.

A commander of the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) told ARA News in Afrin: “This is not the first time al-Nusra Front is trying to intimidate people in the region.”

“Over the last three months, sporadic clashes took place in Afrin region between the YPG forces and the Nusra militants, after the latter tried to storm residential districts and villages in this region,” he added. “We will continue to defend civilians against Nusra terrorists.”
