He said there Somali soldiers did not meet serious resistance as they marched into the town which had been abandoned by Shabaab fighters.

Clan fighting in Hiraan region kills 10
BELEDWEYNE, Somalia -- At least 10 people have been reported killed after two militias clashed in deadly battle in Hiraan region village of Deefow of central Somalia on Wednesday morning according to medics, Garowe Online reports.

The fighting that lasted six hours broke out after armed clan militiamen attacked another militia, sources confirmed. The wounded fighters are being treated at Beledweyne General Hospital.

In a press statement from his office, Federal Government of Somalia’s Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali urged the warring sides to exercise restraint and immediately de-escalate armed tensions.
"C'mon guys, please?"
“Central Somalia is hosting a reconciliation and state formation conventions, it is unfortunate that battles are parallel to the ongoing process,” said Sharmarke, adding that the clashes could hurt the confidence of local communities.

“I urge the two sides to come to the negotiating table and abandon fighting. The government will take every action to prevent the recurrent hostility from happening,” he noted.

On December 27, titled elders from the two clans signed a peace agreement in Hiran regional capital of Beledweyne. The inter-clan feud in central Somalia emanates from claims over the ownership of cattle agricultural land.

Yemen Suicide Bomber Kills 33 at Shiite Celebration
[AnNahar] A jacket wallah dressed up like a girl as a woman killed 33 people in central Yemen on Wednesday when he went kaboom! at a celebration by Shiite militia supporters, medical and security sources said.

Dozens of people were also maimed in the attack in the mainly Sunni but Huthi militia-held city of Ibb, the medics said, warning that the corpse count was likely to rise.

Yemen has been dogged by instability since an Arab Spring-inspired uprising forced longtime strongman President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
from power in 2012, with Shiite Houthis and al-Qaeda seeking to fill the power vacuum.

Among those maimed in Wednesday's attack was Ibb governor Yahya al-Aryani, who was attending the Huthis' commemoration of the Prophet Mohammed's birthday, a medic said.

A security source told AFP that the bomber had been wearing a woman's black abaya and veil when he detonated his suicide belt.

Another bomb was discovered at the entrance to the event's venue, the source added.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
, the Yemen branch of the jihadist organization, has pledged to fight the Huthis, who overran the capital Sanaa unopposed in September and have since advanced into other, mainly Sunni districts, including Ibb.

AQAP military chief Qassem al-Rimi vowed in November to carry out fierce attacks against the Shiite militia, and several deadly bombings targeting Huthis have been claimed by the jihadist group.

Al-Qaeda has also carried out a spate of attacks against the security forces from its strongholds in the south and east in recent weeks.

In the southern province of Shabwa on Wednesday, unidentified gunnies killed police officer Colonel Mohammed al-Nessi near the historic provincial capital Ataq before fleeing, a police source told AFP.

There was no immediate claim for the shooting but last weekend AQAP claimed an attempt to assassinate a top general in an ambush that killed two soldiers and maimed 11.

In a second incident, AQAP said its gunnies opened fire on an army colonel in central Baida city, abruptly ejecting him from the gene pool.

And on Tuesday unidentified gunnies on a cycle of violence shot and killed an army officer in the southern port city of Aden.

AQAP is considered by the United States to be the global jihadist network's most dangerous branch and its attacks on security forces have challenged Yemen's longtime role as an effective ally in Washington's fight against murderous Moslems.

Its proximity to oil-rich Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and key shipping routes in the Gulf of Aden have also raised fears that it could become a failed state similar to Somalia.

The US slapped sanctions on former president Saleh in November for allegedly supporting the Huthi advance.

It also blacklisted two Shiite rebel commanders, Abdullah Yahya al-Hakim and Abd al-Khaliq al-Huthi, "for engaging in acts that directly or indirectly threaten the peace, security, or stability of Yemen".

The indictment accused Bosnic of urging members of his community to join Islamic State bad boys, saying he had "publicly encouraged others to join terrorist organizations during 2013 and 2014, consciously and from a position of religious authority."

[DAWN] A former technician of the Pakistain Air Force convicted of making an attempt on the life of former army chief Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
in 2003 was executed at the Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
Central Prison on Wednesday morning.

Officials present at the time of the execution said Niaz Mohammad was calm and composed when he was being taken to the gallows.

"Niaz requested his parents to impart education to his children and forgive him if he ever hurt their sentiments," an official said, adding that the convict had also sought forgiveness from the public on the lam as well as prayers for him.

Johar Ijaz, a judicial magistrate, supervised the execution. Personnel of police, Elite Force and army were deployed in and around the colonial-era prison.

The last execution at the Peshawar jail was carried out on June 6, 2006, when Mawas Khan of Peshawar's Sufaid Sung area was hanged.

According to sources, a brother, wife and three children of Niaz were allowed to meet him before the execution.

His body was taken to his native village in Swabi an Edhi ambulance.

SEVEN HANGINGS: So far seven convicts have been hanged since the lifting of a moratorium on death penalty by the government after the Peshawar school carnage. Six of them were convicted in cases related to attacks on Pervez Musharraf.

In the first attempt on the life of the former president, which took place near Jhanda Chichi bridge in Rawalpindi on Dec 14, 2003, Niaz Mohammad, another former PAF junior technician Adnan Rashid, who later escaped during the 2012 Bannu jailbreak, former chief technician Khalid Mehmood, former senior technician Karam Din and former corporal Nawazish were sentenced to death by the Field General Court Martial at the PAF Base Chaklala on Oct 3, 2005. The sixth, Nasrullah, also a junior technician, was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Their appeals were rejected in Feb 2006 by a court of appeal under the Pakistain Air Force Act. Later on March 28, 2006, the Lahore High Court dismissed their petitions.

A Supreme Court bench headed by then Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had on Sept 25, 2006, rejected their appeals against the high court verdict. The apex court also dismissed the convicts' review petitions in 2011.

Abdul Islam Siddiqui, an army soldier who was separately tried in the same case, was executed on Aug 20, 2005, after his conviction by a court martial.

Muqadam Khan adds from Swabi: Niaz Mohammad was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Swabi on Wednesday. His funeral was attended by his relatives and a large number of people. Media personnel were not allowed to make videos or take photographs of the funeral.

Pakistani fighter jets kill 23 suspected militants in NWA
[DAWN] At least 23 suspected terrorists were killed when Pakistani fighter jets targeted militant hideouts in Shawal area of North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday evening, military officials claim.

A statement, issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that four militant hideouts were also destroyed through “effective and precise aerial strikes”.

The information, however, could not be independently verified as access for journalists is restricted in the area.

The air strikes are a part of stern actions Pakistan has been taking against Taliban militants following deadly Peshawar school siege earlier in the month as the military intensified operations in the troubled northwestern tribal areas.

After the school attack that killed 150 people, mostly children, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ended a six-year moratorium on the death penalty, reinstating its use for terrorism-related cases.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) said the school attack by a suicide squad was revenge for the killing of militants' families in the military offensives.

The Pakistani military since June has been waging the assault against longstanding TTP and other militant strongholds in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.

Militants Torch Schools as Pakistan Extends Winter Vacations
[AnNahar] Militants set fire to two primary schools in Pakistain's troubled northwest on Tuesday as authorities extended winter holidays amid threats of attacks, officials said.

The incident comes two weeks after the massacre of 150 people at an army-run school in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
, where 134 children were among the victims bumped off by heavily-armed Talibs.

Tuesday's pre-dawn arson attacks took place in two villages in the Kurram tribal district
...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora...
, where Taliban krazed killer activity and violence between Shiite and Sunni Moslems are rife.

Amjad Ali Khan, the district's top administrative official, told Agence La Belle France Presse the attackers had doused furniture with petrol before setting it ablaze.

All the wooden benches and desks along with school records were destroyed and buildings were damaged, Khan said.

No group immediately grabbed credit but Khan blamed "militants" for the latest attacks.

Taliban and other bully boyz opposed to girls' education and secular schooling more generally have in the past bombed and torched hundreds of schools in northwest Pakistain.

No one was hurt in Tuesday's attack as schools are closed for winter vacations, which authorities have extended until January 12 after the Peshawar massacre amid threats of more violence.

Originally schools were due to reopen on January 3.

Iran in New Deal to Boost Iraq Army
[AnNahar] Iran is to help Iraq rebuild its army under an agreement that could formalize Tehran's military support for its neighbor, which remains under assault by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group.

No details of the pact were released but state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said the two sides had "agreed to continue cooperation in the defense arena with the creation of a national army to protect the territorial integrity and security of Iraq."

The memorandum of understanding was signed late Tuesday in Tehran where Iraqi Defence Minister Khaled al-Obaidi is holding talks with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Dahqan.

"The two sides stressed the need for consultations to ensure security, because terrorism affects not only security in Iraq but security throughout the region," the statement added.

The Iraqi military melted in the face of the jihadist surge in June, with many soldiers simply abandoning their weapons and uniforms, allowing IS to seize large areas of the country.

Within days, Shiite Iran sent military advisers to Iraq, which is also predominantly Shiite, to help train and equip troops and allied militias for a counteroffensive against IS.

Iran has also armed Kurdish forces in northern Iraq and several Iranian military personnel have been killed in Iraq and Syria, whose government Tehran also supports.

However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
IS remains in control of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, Iraq's second largest city, and much of the Sunni Arab heartland north and west of Baghdad.

Iran has consistently denied having combat troops on the ground in Iraq and was never invited to join the U.S.-led military coalition assembled against IS, dismissing allied air strikes in Iraq and Syria as ineffective.

But earlier this month the Pentagon said Iranian F-4 Phantom jets -- acquired from the United States before the 1979 Islamic revolution -- had started attacking IS fighters in eastern Iraq's Diyala province.

Tehran refused to confirm or deny the U.S. military's report.

Diyala lies on Iran's border and Iranian officials have underlined the threat they believe that the IS advance into the province poses for its own security.

They have also said repeatedly that they will not allow any move by IS against the Shiite holy places in Iraq, including the city of Samarra, north of Baghdad, where an Iranian military adviser was killed last week.

Speaking at the funeral Monday of Revolutionary Guards Major General Hamid Taghavi, a top security official said that if IS was not tackled in Iraq, Iran itself would be targeted.

"If people like Taghavi don't give their blood in Samarra, we must shed our blood... in Shiraz, Isfahan," Supreme National Security Council secretary Ali Shamkhani said, naming two Iranian cities.

"The enemy will certainly seek to create insecurity in our country," he added.

Molotov cocktail thrown at Palestinian home
Tit for tat, unfortunately.
[IsraelTimes] A Molotov cocktail was hurled at a house in the Paleostinian village of Yatta, south of Hebron, Israel Radio reported Wednesday morning.

There were no injuries, but one of the windows of the house was shattered and the living room was set ablaze by the incendiary device.

The father of the family said that two settlers wearing ski masks showed up near his home at 4 a.m., while his family was sleeping inside the house. The man said the two shattered the living room window and then hurled the Molotov cocktail inside.

Additionally, the word ?nekama? (Hebrew for Dire Revenge) was spray-painted on the wall of the house.

Officials from the Judea and Samaria Civil Administration and from Israel Police?s unit for politically-motivated crime arrived at the scene.

It is not clear to what incident the ?Dire Revenge? graffiti referred.

There have been several Molotov cocktail attacks on Jewish targets recently.

An apartment in the Jewish East Jerusalem neighborhood of Armon Hanatziv was Molotov cocktailed Saturday evening, causing some damage to part of the home.

The attack came on the heels of another Molotov cocktailing incident Thursday, in which an 11-year-old girl was maimed when a Molotov cocktail was hurled into the car she was riding in near the West Bank settlement of Ma?ale Shomron. Her father suffered light injuries.

The girl, Ayala Shapira, who suffered third-degree burns over much of her body and face in the attack, was in serious but stable condition Saturday night after successfully undergoing the first of a series of operations, said doctors at Sheba Medical Center, where she is being treated in the intensive care unit.

Two Paleostinian teens were said to have confessed to Thursday?s attack and were in IDF custody.

Thai terrorist killed in gun battle
[Bangkok Post] Thai troops clashed with a group of well-armed insurgents thought to have plans to sabotage the New Year celebration at the foot of Mohtae mountain in Rangae district on Wednesday morning, and killed one of them. The 24-man team of rangers and special forces soldiers were tracking Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) militants when they found their camp.

The New Year's eve clash occurred after a tip that a group of RKK rebels had set up a temporary base on the mountain and were preparing to launch attacks during the New Year period. The approaching soldiers were seen by an militant lookout on higher ground, who alerted the camp. The two sides exchanged fire for about 20 minutes before the militants fled.

Troops who searched the camp found the body of a man identified as Ardua Nanmasae, who was wanted for the firearms robbery at a military camp on Jan 19, 2011. He had died from multiple bullet wounds.
