However, I don't understand why Colonial Pipeline didn't have multiple buffers between their critical information and the internet.

Suspected Times Square shooter is career criminal with a lengthy rap sheet
[NYPOST] The suspected gunman who allegedly maimed three people in Times Square — including a 4-year-old girl — is a career criminal with a lengthy rap sheet, sources familiar with the cases told The Post.

Farrakhan Muhammad, 31, who remains on the loose, has a criminal record dating to 2007, including two felony robbery arrests and a 2012 bust where cops seized a 12-gauge shotgun, a 22-caliber handgun, and body armor, according to sources.

According to the sources, Muhammad’s first arrest was in January 2007, when he was picked up on a robbery charge for allegedly stealing a victim’s cellphone in Brooklyn.

In November 2009, Muhammad was hit with another robbery charge for allegedly grabbing a woman’s bag while she was loading up a car — with him and a second suspect fleeing the scene, sources said.

His other busts include turnstile jumping and aggravated harassment, the sources said.

Tourist stabbed with screwdriver on NYC subway
[NYPOST] A tourist visiting Manhattan with his family was stabbed with a screwdriver while riding a train Sunday night, police and sources said.

The 43-year-old victim from Ecuador was on the southbound 2 train when he was randomly attacked by a 26-year-old man at about 7:50 p.m., according to cops and sources.

Using a screwdriver, the suspect, Peterson Merant, stabbed the man in his chest and left arm as the train was approaching the Chambers Street station, police and sources said.

When the train arrived at the station, the victim’s wife pointed out the suspect to responding transit officers, sources said.

Cops nabbed Merant on the platform and he confessed to the stabbing, sources said.

Merant was charged with attempted murder, second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, cops said.

The victim was taken by EMS to Bellevue Hospital, where he is expected to survive, police said.

Related: CBS NY points out that Mr. Merant hails from the Bronx and had filed down his screwdriver before the attack.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
71% Of Eligible Gen-Zers Don't Qualify For Military Due To Obesity, Criminal Records And Other Reasons

[ZH] Bloomberg is out with a Monday report chronicling the sad state of affairs the US military has found itself in - notably trying to lure eligible recruits from Generation Z with a cartoon series dubbed "The Calling," which will run on YouTube during May and June.

As Bloomberg notes, "The Army—the U.S. military’s largest service—faces a complex set of problems: the eligible recruiting pool into all military services is small; and the newest generation of prospects, Gen Z, has had almost no contact or knowledge of the military, which has largely fought wars abroad since 2001. The Gen Z cohort grew up with technology, the internet, and social media."

The videos feature Emma, the self-proclaimed spoiled kid; David, the Hawaiian kid who at first didn’t let himself dream about becoming a pilot; Rickie, who grew up in a religious Haitian family in Florida; Janeen, a singer performing on cruise ships who joined the Reserves with the help of her Vietnam-veteran father; and Jennifer, born to first-generation Dominican immigrants, who worked long hours to make ends meet. -Bloomberg

It gets worse.

According to the report, almost 71% of those aged 17 to 24 - roughly 24 million out of 34 million people - are ineligible to join the military because of "obesity, lack of high school diploma, or a criminal record," according to Pentagon data.

In order to lure the eligible Gen-Z'ers, the Army will be spending $425 million on marketing, with the goal of recruiting 60,000 to 70,000 active-duty soldiers, along with 40,000-45,000 National Guardsmen, and 13,000 to 17,000 members of the reserve. To do this, prospective recruits will be served content on YouTube via 15-second trailer. If a person watches at least 10 seconds of the ad, they will see a two-to-three minute episode of the recruiting cartoon, followed by an invitation to hop over to the Army's website.

"Gen Z flips through social media like it is an Olympic sport, and in order to get them to stop their thumbs for a few seconds, you’ve got to surprise them," said Maj. Gen. Alex Fink, the Army’s chief of enterprise marketing. "The Calling has got a much more different look and feel than anything else than not only the Army has done—but nobody in the military has done something like this."

America's foreign adversaries must be laughing their asses off.

Clickbait. If the Government wants more warm bodies most of those are ignored. Obesity? One to three weeks of more exercise. No High School diploma? Criminal Record? Both are waived at the government's pleasure.

During NAM these issues did not bother the DOD.
In fact many a judge offered a thug the ARMY/MARINES/NAVY as an alternative to prison.

Sure there were a bunch of 365/200's. But my father and older brothers (both CSM's) also saw a lot of Duty Hut Supply types that performed support and Admin duties very well.

For those that screwed up again in service while in NAM, it was the LBJ. In the US it was a collection of Camps & Forts that used converted WWII wooden buildings w/o AC surrounded by Razor Wire for a Prison.
Posted by: NN2N1 || 05/11/2021 5:40 Comments || Top||

#3  ....DOD knew thirty years ago that this was going to happen. At that time, I was recruiting for the USAF in Akron, OH, and at least 60-75% of the people I talked to were DQ right off the bat.

And it's going to get worse. As we wokify the US military, they will find that a great many people they want to put in will be unable to read/comprehend their training (which, by the way, is set at a 6th grade comprehension level)or will be of a sufficiently criminal mindset that arming them would be the worst mistake we can make.

#7  So after reading this I went to our cafeteria to eat. As I looked around I was shocked, mainly because I had not been paying attention, at the levels of obesity. I'm over 60 and I consider myself fat. But once I looked around at the 20 to 35 year olds I realized I was the only one in any kind of fitness. There were a couple of small groups of vets that were in shape, but the rest were not just fat, they were 60 plus pounds heavy. We have a couple generations that wont live to 65. I think it safe to assume that investments into obese treatments will be a sound investment.

#9  What's really sad is when I see youngsters, such as six- or seven-year-olds chubby.

But would a Gen-Z'er really consider the military as a career outside of just "needing a job", "paying for college", or "getting away from a miserable home environment"?

Back in the late 1980's, I remember one teenager who was overweight by plenty but wanted to be a Marine. Well, he was a success story. When he came back home on furlough, he was a lean, mean machine.

Ukrainian border guards caught men walking from Lugansk with fencing rapiers through minefields
Direct Translation of the article
[RUSVESNA] On the morning of Monday, May 10, near the Stanitsa Luganskaya checkpoint, border guards found two men who were trying to move more than two thousand foils for fencing from the territory of the LPR.

This is reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

“Two 'swordsmen' who were trying to get to the contact line through minefields were discovered today at dawn by members of the Joint Forces. Thanks to the information received in advance from the border guards of the Luhansk detachment, the servicemen of the Sever OTG and the Ukrainian 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade on the outskirts of the village of Stanytsia Luhanska, 500 meters from the checkpoint, found two men who were handed over to the border guards of the Stanitsa Luhanska department,” says in the message.

“As it turned out, citizens were heading to the contact line in order to pick up the goods and then move them to the village of Stanytsia Luhanska for a fee. 2200 foils for fencing in the agreed place were left for them by the inhabitants of Lugansk, ”the department noted.

“It is worth noting that rapiers belong to the group of inventory items that are prohibited from moving across the contact line. This is the third time that law enforcement officers stopped trying to deliver such goods from the temporarily occupied territory, ”the border guards said.

With regard to men, administrative protocols were drawn up under part 1 of article 204-3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (violation of the procedure for moving goods to or from the area of the anti-terrorist operation). The sanction of the article provides for the confiscation of the seized goods.

#3  Incidentally, a fencing foil weights (approx) a pound. So 2200 fencing foils are (a bit) more than two men can carry.

#4  2,000 foils

Perhaps they overestimated the number of saberists and epeeists at the fencing tournament?

#3  Not really NN2N1. The Lutheran Church has a lot of gay/gender issues. Splits in the Church have resulted. My family left because of pro-gay decisions in our synod.

Our Family and extend family groups quit the UNITED Methodist for similar reasons.

My Uncles literately built our original local Methodist church in 1940's and help build the New Brick one in 1970's also. Back then the preachers actually worked a real job for income and the Wed & Sunday donations were for only Church related issues.

The family as a group cease attendance when it went UNITED Methodist, after learning UM decided to avoid selective bible passages and church norms to go New Age for wider attendance collection($$$).

In other words, The UM went Business P&L, instead of GOD'S word for 2000+ years. The preachers no longer work real jobs and now have a UM retirement.

Is a stroke in your future? There are warning signs

#1  You watch the Cable News programs seriously?

#2  A whole lot of correlation without a lot of causation. Some warnings were signs you've already had a minor stroke.

Lightheaded, dizzy, or nearly fainting are sure signs your brain isn't getting enough oxygen. Could be Joan Blondell, or could be clogged carotid arteries,
Posted by: Bobby || 05/11/2021 8:28 Comments || Top||

#3  Yup...could point to a number of things but stroke awareness is a good thing. If you do have these, best to get evaluated by a doctor. Really liked the background music tho..

#1  As a person who has age-related macular deneration, the article is interesting. AMD has genetic origins. Possibly, this technique may hold promise for MAD. As it is now, the treatment is one of control by injections into the eye every 1-2 months of anti-VEGF drugs such as Lucentis, Eylea or Beovu.
