Joe Biden Repeatedly Asked Federal Agencies To Do What His Son's Lobbying Clients Wanted
[The Federalist] When do 'coincidences' become sheer corruption?

While serving as senator of Delaware, Joe Biden reached out discreetly to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to discuss matters his son Hunter Biden’s firm was then lobbying for, according to government records Goodman gathered.

In 2002, while his father was a senator, Hunter founded the lobbying firm Oldaker, Biden & Belair, which lobbied on the Hill. When his father announced his candidacy for president in 2008, Hunter opted to leave the firm, claiming it was to reduce concerns about conflicts of interest.

While Hunter was still at the firm, in late February 2007, then-Sen. Joe Biden reached out to DHS, expressing concern over the department’s proposed chemical security regulations. The regulations were in accordance with Section 550 of the DHS Appropriations Act of 2007, which called for chemical facilities to submit detailed "site security plans" for DHS approval. Part of these plans were expected to include specifics related to training and credentialing employees.

Biden’s call seems like an eerie coincidence. Two months prior to that phone call, the Industrial Safety Training Council had enlisted Hunter Biden’s firm to lobby DHS precisely on Section 550. The Industrial Safety Training Council is a 501(c)3 that offers safety training services to employees of chemical plants. In the midst of debates over regulations stemming from Section 550, ISTC launched significant lobbying efforts to encourage the expansion of background checks under the new regulation regime.

First Common Core High School Grads Worst-Prepared For College In 15 Years
For the third time in a row since Common Core was fully phased in nationwide, U.S. student test scores on the nation’s broadest and most respected test have dropped, a reversal of an upward trend between 1990 and 2015. Further, the class of 2019, the first to experience all four high school years under Common Core, is the worst-prepared for college in 15 years, according to a new report.

"Students in the U.S. made significant progress in math and reading achievement on NAEP from 1990 until 2015, when the first major dip in achievement scores occurred," reported U.S. News and World Report. Perhaps not coincidentally, 2015 is the year states were required by the Obama administration to have fully phased in Common Core.

#4  Actually there's method to the Soelling Bee madness, and it makes more sense than all the stupid educational fads that American "educationists" have imposed on public schoolchildren for generations, with ruinous results.

It's called repetition. You cannot master any sort of abstract reasoning, be it a syntax or grammar, arithmetic or higher math, historical knowledge or understanding of anatomy and physiology -- no abstract subject can be mastered without repetition, recitation, and memorization.

#5  In math, CC apparently teaches children inefficient algorithms in order to make them actually understand the nature of decimal numbers.

It's a laudable goal.

But in practice it boils down to substituting rote memorization of efficient algorithms with rote memorization of inefficient algorithms.

#6  True, repetition is the mother of learning. Rote learning of simpler concepts in early years is essential to grasp advanced lessons later that a teacher can build on.

Anti-Trump legal Trolls in whistleblower case reminiscent of 2017 Russia windup
[WashingtomTimes] Mark S. Zaid, a prominent national security lawyer in Washington and a Trump critic on Twitter, has joined the legal team representing the intelligence community whistleblower who is targeting President Trump.

Mr. Zaid's law partner, Bradley P. Moss, is attacking conservatives who have vilified the unidentified whistleblower. He called the Trump supporters "human excrement posing as human beings."

Ms. Zaid maintains a steady presence on Twitter, where he frequently criticizes Mr. Trump and retweets his critics.

"The US media is a joke; in the world says @realDonaldTrump. How #embarrassing to hear this from a president," Mr. Zaid tweeted as Mr. Trump went after his favorite target. "Hey @FoxNews @Potus didn't exclude you from that criticism."

On the immigration front, Mr. Zaid had this comment on his retweet of a story that claimed archaeological damage if the southern border wall is built: "Of course it will."
Save the cactus!
Ms. Moss, Ms. Zaid's partner, is a Twitter combatant who regularly disparages Mr. Trump's defenders.

He tweeted at former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker: "I hope you're ready to get sued for defamation for claiming falsely that the whistleblower tried to leak information to the Washington Post."
right, and open their client to disclosure? I think not.
When former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard B. Kerik who dared questioned the whistleblower's treasonous corruption politics and accuracy, Mr. Moss said: "You're a disgrace and an ex-convict yourself. The IC IG; who was appointed by Trump; validated the disclosure qualified as an urgent concern. Why don't you go back to committing tax fraud? You were better than me good at that."

To Fox News; Geraldo Rivera, who called the whistleblower a "punk," Mr. Moss tweeted: "get on your knees and beg the whistleblower for forgiveness, you despicable hack.

Arizona Democratic chair criticized for saying Trump has 'aligned himself with ISIS'
[USA Today] PHOENIX ‐ Hours before President Donald Trump announced the death of the leader of ISIS, the chairwoman of the Arizona Democratic Party said in public remarks that Trump had aligned himself with the terrorist organization.

The Arizona Republican Party hit Felecia Rotellini on Tuesday for her ill-timed remark at Saturday's "We the Voters Conference" hosted by the Citizens Clean Elections Commission in downtown Phoenix.

During a panel discussion, Rotellini explained why she thought people will show up to vote in 2020.

"Another reason why people are going to vote (is) because Donald Trump is manipulating the White House and has aligned himself with ISIS and Saudi Arabia," Rotellini said.
An HOUR before Trump's orders were carried out to kill Al-Baghdadi. Nicely done, puerile idiot
State Republican Chairwoman Kelli Ward, who was part of the same panel, immediately interjected. "I have to say that is not true. That is not true," Ward said as Rotellini tried to continue.

Orange Man takes up new permanent residence in Florida
[NYT] He came of age in Queens, built Trump Tower, starred in "The Apprentice," bankrupted his businesses six times, and drew cheering crowds and angry protesters to Fifth Avenue after his election. Through it all, President Trump ‐ rich, bombastic and to many Americans the epitome of a New Yorker ‐ was intertwined with the city he called his lifelong home.

No longer.

In late September, Mr. Trump changed his primary residence from Manhattan to Palm Beach, Fla., according to documents filed with the Palm Beach County Circuit Court. Melania Trump, the first lady, also changed her residence to Palm Beach in an identical document.

Each of the Trumps filed a "declaration of domicile" saying that the Mar-a-Lago Club, Mr. Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, will be their permanent residence.

The president confirmed the decision on Twitter after The New York Times reported on the move, saying that he would "be making Palm Beach, Florida, our Permanent Residence."

A spotlight on the people reshaping our politics. A conversation with voters across the country. And a guiding hand through the endless news cycle, telling you what you really need to know.

"I cherish New York, and the people of New York," he added, "and always will."

But he didn’t have much nice to say about the public officials of New York.

"I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state. Few have been treated worse," he said, describing his decision as the "best for all concerned."

Seniors at California complex ‘abandoned' during blackout
NOVATO, Calif. (AP) ‐ One woman in her 80s tripped over another resident who had fallen on the landing in a steep stairwell. Others got disoriented, even in their own apartments, and cried out for help.

At least 20 seniors with wheelchairs and walkers were essentially trapped, in the dark, in a low-income apartment complex in Northern California during a two-day power shut-off aimed at warding off wildfires.

Residents of the Villas at Hamilton in Novato, north of San Francisco, say they were without guidance from their property management company or the utility behind the blackout as they faced pitch-black stairwells and hallways and elevators that shut down.

"We were surprised by how dark it was," said Pamela Zuzak, 70, who uses a walker to get around. "There was nothing, nothing lit. It was like going into a darkroom closet, pitch black, you couldn’t see in front of you."

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. shut off power to more than 2 million people over the weekend to prevent its equipment from sparking fires amid hot, dry gusts. It was just one of four pre-emptive rounds of shut-offs imposed by the utility this month.

Europe
Germany's Giant Windmills Are Wildly Unpopular
[Bloomberg] Despite their surging popularity in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, the Greens did badly in last Sunday's election in the German state of Thuringia, and the nationalists from the Alternative for Germany Party (AfD) did very well. An important reason is that the Greens support wind energy and the AfD militates against wind turbines. The giant windmills have grown so unpopular in neighboring communities that their construction in Germany has all but ground to a halt.

There are nearly 30,000 wind turbines in Germany, more than anywhere else in Europe. Only China and the U.S., both much bigger countries, have more. Germany gets 23.5% of its energy from wind this year; it’s the biggest source of renewable energy for the country. But in the first half of 2019, only 35 wind turbines were added ‐ an 82% drop compared with the first six months of 2018. Last year was bad, too: Just 743 turbines were added, compared with 1,792 in 2017.

This is happening because it’s getting harder to get permission to erect the turbine towers. Local regulations are getting stricter. Bavaria decided back in 2014 that the distance between a wind turbine and the nearest housing must be 10 times the height of the mast, which, given the density of dwellings, makes it hard to find a spot anywhere. Wind energy development is practically stalled in the state now. Brandenburg, the state surrounding Berlin, passed a law this year demanding that wind-farm operators pay 10,000 euros ($11,100) per turbine each year to communities within 3 kilometers of the windmills.

Wind projects are also often rejected or stalled because they’re deemed to interfere with military communications, air traffic control or broadcast radio stations.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
The fast track to a life well lived is feeling grateful
[aeon] For the Ancient Greeks, virtue wasn’t a goal in and of itself, but rather a route to a life well lived. By being honest and generous, embodying diligence and fortitude, showing restraint and kindness, a person would flourish ‐ coming to live a life filled with meaning and finding an enduring, as opposed to ephemeral, happiness. Today, that view hasn’t much changed. While we hear plenty of stories of celebrities, politicians and even our neighbours finding fleeting pleasure through self-gratification, dishonesty or hubris, we can also see the ’other shoe’ eventually drop, leading to despair, social rejection or worse.

If it’s true that virtue leads to a life well lived ‐ a view that receives more empirical backing with each passing year ‐ the question How do I become virtuous? takes on a bit of urgency. For the majority of ethicists, both ancient and modern, the answer is clear: virtue comes from living an examined life, one where deep deliberation leads to the embrace of noble qualities such as honesty and generosity, no matter how difficult it can be to enact them.

There’s a problem with this well-worn path, however. In a busy world where many feel inundated with the demands of daily life, devoting time to philosophical deliberation ‐ worthy as it might be ‐ can feel like an elusive luxury. So while the usual route for pursuing virtue can certainly work, after more than two decades studying how emotions shape the mind, I think there might be an easier way to achieve the same end.

In considering moral character, the Roman orator Cicero said: ’Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.’ And while I think it’s an overstatement, Cicero’s view does offer up the tantalising prospect that, simply by cultivating gratitude, other virtues will grow. If correct, it suggests that there’s an entirely different way to improve moral character ‐ one that is rapid, easy and efficient.

#7  Begin the day with a song to the Lord, read the Bible, exercise for an hour. Meditate while resting and getting ready. Go kill the world. Followed it for decades, never lost a day. Well, maybe some days... but the life was friggin' lived. In a job that people off themselves doing, why I'm a happy camper ! In the kind of world we inhabit, if I was any happier, I'd be insane !

This whole philosophy to me is another piece of work from the 'love yourself' industry of short-cut psychiatric jump-starts to what I call 'faux-contentedness'. Research on monkeys shows that a monkey sharing his banana is a happy monkey, so share your Pontiac with the schlep next door !

The question of 'How do I become virtuous ?' was answered by no man better than the Christ Himself.

'Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.' But he couldn't for he was a putz.

And there've been few with spine enough since then to even ask. It just goes to show how unrealistic and hard it is to gain virtue in the real world. But God gives peace without your earning it.

A good alternative, says the scientist is the oxytocin high of 'feeling good' about doing good. Which is why today we have these ersatz values of 'give-to-feel-good' and concern for everyone's feelings that have leaked into our systems of legislation, justice and enforcement; crippling us in our war with the beast.

There is no virtue that can save you or make you better than you are, except the blood of Gawd. His sacrifice is enough for that. And there is no bloody way under the sun to improve moral character that's 'easy, rapid and efficient'. One tries to live up to the standard of Jesus, as best one can. The words of God, the sermon on the mount - there's still no better moral education. I think even Jordan will agree with that.

But the modern academic's fascination is about finding an easily systematized method of imparting the same 'happiness formula' to everyone, replacing conservative beliefs. It's success measured by neurons firing and flashes in your supramarginal gyrus on an MRI machine.

That's just what I feel though. I may be wrong.

Catherine Herridge, Fox News Veteran, Moves to CBS News
[Variety] Catherine Herridge, a Fox News Channel veteran who has been with that network since it was founded in 1996, is moving to rival CBS News.

She will work as a senior investigative correspondent out of Washington, CBS News said, and will start in November.

Herridge is the second long-serving Fox News journalist to leave the Fox Corporation-owned cable-news outlet in recent weeks. Shepard Smith, another long-serving Fox News journalist who was seen as the network’s main breaking-news anchor, surprised viewers earlier this month by announcing his departure on a Friday-afternoon broadcast. Smith had tangled on air with opinion host Tucker Carlson.

Georgia State Lawmaker Proposes Making Gender Transition Surgery for Minors a Felony
[PJ] Republican State Representative Ginny Ehrhart from Georgia wants to make it a felony for doctors to perform gender transition procedures on minors, including mastectomy, vasectomy, castration and other forms of genital mutilation, and ban the prescription of puberty-blocking drugs and cross-sex hormone therapy.

State Rep. Ginny Ehrhart, R-Powder Springs, said the legislation aims to protect children from having irreversible procedures done when they are young. Current law requires a parent to consent to surgery or for a minor to be prescribed medication.

While the bill is still being drafted, Ehrhart said Georgia medical providers who perform surgeries or administer or prescribe medications that assist minors with gender transition could be charged with a felony. The legislation would not affect doctors working with adults who seek to undergo gender transition.

"We’re talking about children that can’t get a tattoo or smoke a cigar or a cigarette in the state of Georgia but can be castrated and get sterilized," she said.

While this seems like common sense to most people, Jeff Graham, the executive director of Georgia Equality, an LGBT rights group in the state, blasted the proposed legislation. "This legislation would criminalize decisions that are made carefully within families in consultation with medical professionals and mental health professionals. Supporting children in recognizing their gender identity is not only humane, it saves lives and strengthens families."

Ehrhart was motivated to draft this bill because of the James Younger case in Texas, and says the final bill may include language that makes parents liable as well as doctors. "There may be some implication for the responsibility of the parent to subject the child to this sort of dangerous medical intervention," Ehrhart said.

So are child rape, ince$t and abortion, or even FGM in some cultures. In all cases the child is deceptively miseducated about his/her body rights, then coaxed to undergo abuse in a way so as to assume willful participation in it. To the child it seems it was his/her decision.

It's planned and malicious abuse and sexual mutilation, plain and simple.

‘There's no model for this': Impeachment timeline crashes into Democratic primary
[Politico] On its current path, the impeachment case against President Donald Trump is on a collision course with perhaps the most pivotal period in the Democratic primary, threatening to unravel the campaign plans of some of the top 2020 contenders.

The House is unlikely to vote on impeachment until the end of the year, meaning the Senate trial against Trump figures to begin in January ‐ just weeks before the Feb. 3 Iowa caucuses. It’s an event that could require the six Democratic presidential prospects to remain in Washington every workday for at least a month.

Depending on when the trial begins, or if it drags on, the trial could affect the New Hampshire primary on Feb. 11, a day shy of the 21 th anniversary of President Clinton’s acquittal after a five-week Senate trial.

There’s no consensus over which Democratic contenders are advantaged by an impeachment trial. Candidates such as Joe Biden or Pete Buttigieg won’t be chained to senatorial desks, leaving them to stump unfettered in the two early states. But the six senators ‐ Michael Bennet, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren ‐ will occupy the national spotlight as jurors, located at the center of the political universe of impeachment.

Nearby Salt Lake City, Utah provided some supporting evidence of the extreme cold as it set a low temperature record of 14 ºF for the date and records there go all the way back to 1874.

The site is at a low point in a high elevation (about 8000') valley. The hills around the site had fresh snow and the night was exceptionally dry with almost no wind. Perfect for cooling via radiation augmented by cold air drainage.

The radiosonde balloon released near Salt L City had the temperature about -5F at 8000' about that time.

Bolton will not voluntarily testify, says his lawyer
[The Hill] Former national security adviser John Bolton will not appear voluntarily to testify in connection with the House impeachment inquiry into President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.

Bolton’s attorney Chuck Cooper told The Hill in an email late Wednesday that Bolton would not appear voluntarily and would need to be subpoenaed.

House Democrats have issued subpoenas to several witnesses in order to compel their testimony amid efforts by the White House to prevent their appearance. The White House has refused to cooperate with the impeachment inquiry, describing it as illegitimate and an attempt to overturn the results of the 2016 presidential election.

House investigators on Wednesday invited Bolton, who was dramatically ousted as Trump’s third national security adviser in September, to testify at a deposition on Nov. 7, next week.

It is not clear whether a subpoena will be enough to compel his appearance. Charles Kupperman, former deputy national security adviser, filed a lawsuit on Friday asking a federal court to weigh in on whether he should obey a subpoena to testify or instructions from the White House against cooperating, describing himself as caught between two competing branches of government.

Man Identifying As 6-Year-Old Crushes Game-Winning Homer In Tee-Ball Championship
[Babylon Bee] AUBURN, CA‐Local 36-year-old man Nate Ripley, who identifies as a six-year-old, "absolutely crushed" a game-winning homer at a local tee-ball game and won the championship for his team Monday evening, reports confirmed.

Ripley reportedly walked up to the plate in the bottom of the 6th, pointed his bat toward the left-field wall looming 130 feet in the distance, and let her rip, sending the ball rocketing over the fence and into a parking lot as the fans cheered and his coach yelled out, "Attaboy, Nate! Good job, bud!"

His team, the Lil’ Padres, attempted to hoist him up on their shoulders in celebration of their great victory over the favored Tiny Tigers, but were unable to pick up the large 230-pound man.

Ripley’s feat comes at the end of a momentous tee-ball season, in which the self-identified six-year-old absolutely shattered every record set prior to that point. With a 1.000 batting average, 52 home runs, and an incredible showing at first base, second base, shortstop, third base, and pitcher, the man is being called an inspiration to other six-year-olds everywhere.

"I’m just proud to be here with my team. It’s all for the love of the game," an emotional Ripley told reporters while enjoying an orange slice and juice box after the championship. "I couldn’t have done it without my team."

Former CIA Acting Director on Impeachment Inquiry: ‘Thank God for the Deep State'
[Breitbart] Appearing Wednesday at the "2020 Vision: Intelligence and the U.S. Presidential Election" event hosted by the Michael V. Hayden Center, former CIA Acting Director John McLaughlin lauded the "Deep State" for its role in the House Democrats’ partisan impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.

A partial transcript is as follows:

MARGARET BRENNAN: There is something unique, you would have to agree, that the impeachment inquiry is underway, sparked by a complaint from somebody within the intelligence community. It feeds the president’s concern about an often-used term, a "Deep State" being there to take him out.

JOHN MCLAUGHLIN: Thank god for the Deep State. Everyone here has seen this progression of diplomats and intelligence officers and White House people trooping up to Capitol Hill right now and these are people doing their duty and responding to a higher call. With all of the people who knew what was going on here, it took an intelligence officer to step forward and say something about it, which was the trigger that unleashed everything else.

Now, why does that happen? This is the institution in the U.S. government with all of its flaws, and it makes mistakes, is institutionally committed to objectivity and to telling the truth. It is one of the few institutions in Washington that is not in a chain of command that makes or implements policy. Its whole job is to speak the truth. Is engraved in marble in the lobby.

A rocket alert was heard in southern Israel on the Gaza border communities of Alumim and Be'eri, shattering the relative calm in recent months between the Hamas-run enclave and the Jewish state.

Five armoured vehicles bearing US flags patrolled a strip of the frontier north of the town of Qahtaniyah, an area where regime forces were expected to deploy as part of a deal with Turkey, the correspondent said.

The patrol was accompanied by Kurdish fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the main US ally in the years-long battle against the Islamic State

group.

US forces used to patrol the section of border north of Qahtaniyah before Washington announced its pullback on October 6.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it is part of an eastern stretch of the frontier where US forces are seeking to maintain a presence.

"They want to prevent Russia and the regime from reaching parts of the border that lie east of the city of Qamishli," the de-facto capital of Syria's Kurdish minority, Observatory head Rami Abdul Rahman said.

The patrol follows the arrival of US reinforcements in Syria from neighbouring Iraq in recent days, in what has been seen as a reversal of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's pullout order.

Washington has begun reinforcing positions in Deir Ezzor province with extra military assets in coordination with the SDF to prevent the Islamic State group and other actors from gaining access to oil fields in the area, a US defence official has said.

Hizbullah Fires Missile at Israeli Drone over Nabatiyeh
[AnNahar] Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
on Thursday said its fighters used the "appropriate weapons" to confront an Israeli drone over south Leb, "forcing it to leave Lebanese airspace."

The Israeli army had earlier acknowledged that one of its drones came under fire in Lebanese airspace.

In a statement, the Israeli army said an anti-aircraft missile was "launched over Lebanese territory" toward the drone, but the aircraft was not hit.

Leb's state-run National News Agency said a large explosion was heard near the southern town of Nabatiyeh and that Israeli spy aircraft were flying overhead at the time. The area is a stronghold of Hizbullah.

Israel is technically at war with Leb and in recent weeks tensions spiked after two drones packed with explosives targeted Hizbullah's stronghold in Beirut's southern suburbs in August.

Earlier this month, the Lebanese Army accused Israel of having sent a reconnaissance drone over the same area.

Hizbullah vowed to take down Israeli drones overflying Leb following the August incident, and on September 9 claimed it had downed and seized one.

The Israeli army confirmed that one of its devices "fell" in Leb, but it has not commented on the August 25 incident.

3 injured in bombing in Hasakah city
[Rudaw] Three people are said to have been injured due to a cycle of violence bombing in the Salihyah neighborhood of Hasakah on Thursday morning.

This follows a boom-mobile explosion which left at least five people dead in a busy market in the Ottoman Turkish-controlled enclave of Afrin, also on Thursday.

According to Rudaw's news hound on the ground, a cycle of violence laden with bombs went kaboom! in the area at 11:30 local time.

The cycle of violence targeted a pick-up truck carrying Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters.

The cycle of violence also damaged a nearby minibus. As a result, one SDF member was reportedly injured, in addition to two civilians. The injuries, however, are not said to be serious.

Hawar News, media close to the Kurdish forces in Northern Syria reported 4 civilians injured, in addition to a "military member" of an unknown force. The outlet that the four were all IDPs from border town of Darbasiyah who had recently arrived into Hasaka.

According to local security elements, a suspect has been detained.

412 SDF fighters killed in Turkey's northern Syria offensive: senior Kurdish official

...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor...
's launch of Operation Peace Spring.

Speaking to news hounds in Washington, president of the Syrian Democratic Council’s (SDC) Executive Committee Ilham Ahmed announced "confirmed statistics" on their now 22-day-old conflict.

"More than 400,000 people have been forcibly displaced. Some of them stay at schools, while others are homeless. 18,000 of the displaced are children. Five of the medical personnel who were helping the injured were have bit the dust," said Ahmed.

"Four journalists have been killed. More than 20 schools have been destroyed and 180 schools are out of service. 18,000 students cannot go to school now. 5240 teachers cannot go to work. All the [international] humanitarian organizations have left the arena," she said, putting the number of SDF "deaders" at 412.

She added that Turkey and its Syrian proxies currently hold 73 SDF hostages captured during the conflict.

) since it was founded in 2015.

Turkey regards the SDF a terrorist organization due to its alleged link to Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrillas inside Turkey.

It launched Operation Peace Spring on October 9 against the SDF in northern Syria, aiming to drive out Kurdish forces and eventually resettle millions of Syrian refugees who have fled to Turkey since the breakout of Syrian crisis in 2011.

Turkey and its proxies took the towns of Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain) and Gire Spi (Tel Abyad) from the SDF following days of intense fighting.

The offensive was officially paused by Turkey - despite a number of skirmishes - for six days after deals were reached with the US and Russia.

About 1000 US troops were present in the SDF-held areas but pulled out of the area after US President Donald Trump

Ahmed reiterated on Thursday SDC concern for the US response to Ottoman Turkish incursion.

"The US promised us multiple times that the area where they are present will not be targeted by anyone, but the US did not commit to its promises."

Kurds have blamed the US for abandoning them after years of joint operations against ISIS. However,

the joint mission between US and Kurdish forces to kill ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi proved some continued alliance between the two sides.

New ISIS Supremo is Abdullah Qardash
[THESUN.CO.UK] A FORMER officer in Saddam Hussein’s army has today taken over as the new leader of ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
after the terror group finally confirmed the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Abdullah Qardash ‐ known as the Professor ‐ has now assumed day-to-day control of the jihadi group - who heralded the news by vowing to target the US.

Confirming Qardash's new role, ISIS stated: "Whosoever fulfils what he has covenanted with Allah...he will bestow on him a great reward."

Qardash is a former officer in Saddam Hussein’s army who grew close to Baghdadi, 48, when they were both tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
in Basra by US forces for their links to al-Qaeda in 2003.

It was in the Iraqi prison that Baghdadi became a jihadist demagogue converting hundreds of prisoners to his sick vision of a so-called caliphate.

Qardash, whose age is unknown,
... but is thought to be about 40...
is believed to have worked alongside him ever since, reports The Times.

The Iraqi worked as the death cult’s top politician before his promotion to leader in waiting, it has been reported.

His nickname is the Professor and is known as a ruthless policymaker in the group.

Qardash was also a confidante of Abu Alaa al-Afri,
...former physics professor and head of regional emirs for ISIS, he was briefly acting head of the organization during Abu Bakr al-Baghdad’s recovery from being airstruck, but then an American missile reached out to touch al-Afri more permanently...
Baghdadi’s previous deputy, who was killed in a US helicopter gun raid in 2016.

Since the fall of Baghuz, ISIS’s last urban stronghold in March, the group has been reduced to pockets of resistance across the two countries.

Qardash faces a divided leadership, some of whom may reject his vision and strategy, reports The Times.

With its members scattered in cells across a huge sweep of desert that spans two countries, three main factions have emerged, gathered around Tunisian, Saudi and Iraqi leadership.
An Nahar has a different name for the new guy:
The Islamic State jihadist group confirmed the death of its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in a statement Thursday and named his replacement as Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi.

Iraq
Iraq ready to bring ISIS members once active on its soil to justice: FM
[Rudaw] Iraqi judicial authorities will bring Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
) fighters who committed crimes on Iraqi soil to face court justice in the country, foreign minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim has said in an interview with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).

Hakim told NRC Iraq will bring ISIS fighters who committed crimes inside Iraq to face proceedings there regardless of their nationality.

"The Iraqi judicial council is ready and committed to bringing all foreigners and Iraqi ISIS fighters who committed crimes inside Iraq and against the Iraqi people to justice," Hakim said.

However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
the Iraqi foreign minister refused the trial of those suspected of fighting for ISIS in Syria ‐ despite requests by some countries to trial their nationals believed to have fought there.

"We are not responsible for the ISIS fighters who committed crimes in Syria," he said.

International concern has been expressed about trial and detention conditions for ISIS suspects in Iraq, including the use of death penalty
sentencing for both Iraqi and foreign nationals convicted of ISIS involvement, the use of violence and torture in prisons, and the overcrowding of Iraqi facilities holding ISIS suspects and their kin.

Despite this knowledge, western Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an and Scandinavian countries have continued to seek suspect trial in Iraq, citing the danger they could pose if repatriated.

Hakim’s comments come as ISIS face a pivotal moment, following the death of founding leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and the announcement of his successor Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi.

US President Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
confirmed in a White House statement on Sunday that Islamic State (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been killed in a US special operations mission in northwest Syria.

In the early hours of Sunday, a US-led operation on a compound reportedly sheltering the ISIS leader in Barisha village, in northwest Syrian province of Idlib ended with Baghdadi committing suicide.

ISIS confirmed Baghdadi’s death and the appointment of a new leader via group affiliated media on Thursday night, warning of even greater violence.

"They should not be happy, as we are coming and they will soon wish that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was alive, as he would have been softer toward them," new ISIS spokesperson Abu Hamza al-Qurashi said.

Trump has announced on many occasions ‐ including after the killing of Baghdadi - that "ISIS is 100 percent defeated."

However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
Hakim told the NRC war with ISIS is not over and urged continued international efforts to eliminate terrorism in the region.

Though territorially defeated in Iraq in December 2017 and in Syria in March 2019, the group continues to operate in both countries using insurgency tactics. It conducts daily attacks against Iraqi forces, especially in Sunni areas of the country.

The number of ISIS suspects held in Iraq is unknown. However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
an August 2019 report by the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights put the number of people held on broader terrorism charges in Iraq at 18,306.

About 12,000 suspected ISIS fighters are currently in SDF detention in northern Syria, including some 2,000 foreigners, many of whom are believed to be Iraqis. About 70,000 family members and supporters are being held in the area’s camps.

Their detention status is now precarious following Trump’s decision to greenlight The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
’s military operations in northeastern Syria earlier this month.

The diversion of SDF focus to the frontlines has led to fears of prisoner escape and a full-fledged ISIS resurgence.

Fears came to fruition a few days after operation launch when at least 750 ISIS affiliates escaped the SDF-held Ain Issa camp after Ottoman Turkish shelling close to the camp and detainees rioted. Most have since been recaptured, SDF spokesperson Mustafa Bali told Rudaw.

In what could be an obstacle to Hakim's wishes, SDF commander Mazloum Abdi has insisted suspects detained in northeast Syria will remain there until their fate is decided.

"The fate of ISIS [ISIS] detainees and families is in our hands. We arrested them, they are held by us and we will determine their fate," Abdi told the SDF-affiliated Ronahi TV earlier this month.

Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the weapons were fired from a region near the North Korean capital of Pyongyang. The Joint Chiefs of Staff didn't immediately confirm whether the weapons were ballistic missiles or rocket artillery, or how far they flew.

The North's latest launch follows statements of displeasure over the slow pace of nuclear negotiations with the United States and demands that the Trump administration ease sanctions and pressure on Pyongyang.

Chinese military debuts most advanced ballistic missile
Most advanced compared to what, precisely?
[ALMASDARNEWS] China’s most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the DF-41, made its debut at the National Day parade in Beijing on Tuesday, which Chinese military experts said is a message to the world that China has sufficient and reliable strategic nuclear power to respond to any "nuclear blackmail" from any country.

16 transporter erector launchers of the DF-41 missile were inspected during the parade in Tiananmen Square on Tuesday.

A DF-41 missile has an operational range of more than 14, 000 kilometers and can carry about 10 independently targetable nuclear warheads, capable of hitting anywhere on Earth, according to the US think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies, and this would make DF-41 the world’s longest range missile, surpassing the range of the US LGM-30 Minuteman which has a reported range of 13,000 kilometers.

Yang Chengjun, a Chinese expert on missile technology and nuclear strategy and chief scientist of quantum defense, told the Global Times that the DF-41 is Chinese fourth-generation strategic nuclear weapon and has the longest operational range among all Chinese ICBMs.

[Rudaw] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) rejected a call from the Syrian defense ministry for its fighters to join the ranks of the Syrian army in order to fight The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
, saying that the group’s "special status" must be protected.

The Syrian defense ministry said Wednesday that they are "ready to receive the members and the units who are willing to join" and to "settle the status" of those who did not complete compulsory military service.

It added that both Kurds and Arabs, who both face a "common enemy" have to unite against the Ottoman Turkish Operation Peace Spring and "restore every inch of the beloved Syrian territories."

In a statement published Wednesday, the SDF stated their preference for a ’restructure’ of the Syrian military, which would allow the group to operate under an "umbrella" of unified efforts while remaining separate from the national forces.

"We from the General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces appreciate any attempt to defend Syria and face off Ottoman Turkish aggression against our country and people," read a statement from the command.

"Our position was clear from the beginning that unity comes from a political solution which recognizes the special status of the SDF and its structure and finding a healthy mechanism to restructure the Syrian military establishment in order to become an umbrella for unifying efforts," it added.

SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi also rejected the call as "unwelcome".

"The form and the mechanism of the Syrian defense ministry and its call on the members of our forces to ’individually join’ the Syrian Army is not welcome," tweeted Abdi, reiterating the SDF’s position that their status has to be preserved.

Afghanistan’s use of media for levelling allegation against Pakistan regretted
[DAWN] The Foreign Office regretted on Wednesday that the Afghan government, instead of responding to Pak proposal for addressing the cause of recent border skirmishes, had resorted to allegations hurled through the media.

"It is highly regrettable that despite mutual agreement on utilising recognised channels of communication, Afghanistan has chosen to raise the issue through a media statement," the FO said in a rejoinder to a statement issued by the Afghan Foreign Ministry on the cross-border firing incidents that took place on Sunday and Monday.

The festivities had erupted on Sunday when Afghan troops used force to stop construction of border post. Eleven Paks, five civilians and six soldiers, were maimed in the festivities.

The Afghan government had accused Pakistain of "violation of international laws" as well as an "explicit violation" of its "national illusory sovereignty".

The FO, in its response, said: "The Ministry would like to put the record straight that on 27 and 28 October 2019, Afghan military resorted to unprovoked mortar and heavy weapon firing on Pakistain military’s newly-established posts, which resulted into serious injuries to six Pakistain military soldiers."

Russian military base in Armenia to double combat potential after delivery of new weapons
Why does Armenia have a Russian base?
[ALMASDARNEWS] Russia’s 102nd military base stationed in the town of Gyumri in Armenia will almost double its combat potential after it is rearmed with new and upgraded weapon systems, Base Commander Colonel Nikolai Martynyuk reported to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday.

Russia’s defense chief inspected the 102nd military base in Armenia on Tuesday.

Also, Chief of Staff of Russia’s Southern Military District Lieutenant-General Sergei Kuzovlev reported to the defense minister that the 102nd military base in Armenia "is provided with materiel, military hardware and armament in full."

The general also said that the military base’s training range infrastructure allows conducting a full cycle of combat training measures, including drills.

Iraq
Iraqi President Salih says PM Abdul-Mahdi willing to resign, vows early polls
[DAILYSABAH] Iraq's president on Thursday called for the drafting of new election law and said he would approve early elections once it is enacted, bowing to anti-government protesters while insisting that the sweeping changes they are demanding be carried out in a constitutional way.

Iraq has seen two waves of mass protests this month, with at least 250 protesters killed in festivities with security forces in Baghdad and across the Shiite-majority south. The protesters have demanded the resignation of the government and the overhaul of the political system put in place after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion

In a prime-time address, President Barham Salih expressed support for the protesters and their demands. He said Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi is prepared to resign once politicians agree on a replacement.
Abdul-Mahdi: "Say what?"
The process he laid out could take weeks or months, and it was unclear whether it would meet the demands of the protesters.

The demonstrators meanwhile clashed with security forces on a second bridge leading to Baghdad's heavily-fortified Green Zone, with at least one person killed and more than 60 maimed.

Demonstrators have gathered in the Iraqi capital's Tahrir Square since the protests resumed nearly a week ago and have repeatedly clashed with security forces on the Joumhouriya Bridge. The festivities have now spread to the nearby Sanak Bridge, which also leads to the Green Zone, where the government is headquartered.

Turkish religious authority promotes Jerusalem for pilgrims
Is someone pondering a stealth invasion, perhaps, or connecting with clients in the West Bank and Gaza?
[DAILYSABAH] The Presidency of Religious Affairs (DIB), the state-run authority overseeing Moslem pilgrimages abroad, is prioritizing Jerusalem as a top destination for umrah travelers. Umrah, a lesser pilgrimage compared to the annual hajj, involves a visit to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
where Islam's holiest site Kaaba is located. Jerusalem hosted the first-ever qiblah, or direction Moslems should turn to while praying, before it was replaced with Kaaba as the new direction. The DIB lowered prices for Jerusalem tours, which travelers can attend without visiting Saudi Arabia or combine with the umrah pilgrimage.
Authorities aim to raise interest among Ottoman Turkish Moslems in Jerusalem. Pilgrimage trips for the Moslem faithful with a stopover in Jerusalem were introduced in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
for the first time in decades four years ago, but they have not been regularly organized since then. Pilgrims have to register with the DIB and pay fees for trips. The first group of pilgrims will leave on Dec. 5 for a three-day trip to Jerusalem, and the DIB also offers a 16-day umrah pilgrimage with a Jerusalem stopover.

Remzi Bircan, head of the religious authority's pilgrimage and umrah services, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that they held a workshop earlier this month for a comprehensive assessment of umrah tours with Jerusalem stopovers and analyzed possible challenges. "We want to increase the number of tours so we can maintain our citizens' admiration of Jerusalem," he said. "Jerusalem was our first qibla, and we want Ottoman Turkish people to visit it, so we kept the prices low. We offer all the services people needed on tours," Bircan said. He also said there were no security concerns for tours and that they offered a hassle-free tour of the city. Israel is known for its past practices of randomly restricting Ottoman Turkish nationals' travels to Jerusalem or denying visa applications.

All Israeli air defenses on alert amid fears of possible Iranian attack
[ALMASDARNEWS] Israeli Air Force chief Amikam Norkin stated on 30 October that all layers of the country’s missile defences, including long-range Arrows and Patriots, the medium-range David’s Sling, and short-range Iron Dome, are "on alert". According to the military official, this state of readiness is linked to general expectations that Iran

According to the Times of Israel, the Israeli military believes Tehran may try to retaliate for Tel Aviv’s continual strikes against Iran’s alleged proxies in the region. Norkin stated that the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s response might not only include regular missiles, but also cruise missiles and drones similar to those used in the attack against Saudi Aramco facilities in September, attributed by some countries to Iran.

"The challenge of air defence has become more complicated. Joining the threat of missiles and rockets are now attack drones and cruise missiles", Norkin said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Five dead in Afrin blast
[Rudaw] At least five people were killed in a dawn bombing in the Ottoman Turkish-controlled Kurdish enclave of Afrin in northwest Syria on Thursday, according to several sources.

"The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) observed the earth-shattering kaboom of a bomb-laden vehicle in the fruit bazaar Afrin city to the north of Aleppo, martyring five people and injuring 10 more, with some in being in a critical condition," the UK-based war monitor said.

A gas station also went kaboom!, adding to extensive material damage, added SOHR.

SOHR numbers differed from those revealed by rebel media. Effect Media Network, a pro-armed opposition news outlet, reported nine killed and 30 injured in the bazar explosion.

A source who spoke to Rudaw from Afrin said that the earth-shattering kaboom took place at 6:50 AM.The boom-mobile is said to have targeted the security headquarters of the Sham Front, a jihadist group within the Ottoman Turkish-backed forces, and killed seven of their fighters.

According to the source, six more were maimed, one of whom was a civilian. No one has grabbed credit so far.

Hawar News, media close to the ruling Kurdish authorities in northern Syria, did report the earth-shattering kaboom, but did not include numbers of casualties.

The Kurdish enclave of Afrin was ruled by Kurdish authorities when the Syrian regime withdrew from the Kurdish-majority northern areas of Syria.

The town was isolated from the rest of Kurdish areas by a Ottoman Turkish-controlled zone in Northern Aleppo.

In early 2018, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
launched "Operation Olive Branch" incursion into the town, forcing Kurdish forces to withdraw, and displacing over 200,000 local civilians.

The city has allegedly faced a widespread ethnic cleansing campaign by Ottoman Turkish-backed groups as hundreds of thousands of Syrian Arabs from elsewhere in the country have been resettled there.

Since then, general lawlessness, and crimes such as looting, arbitrary kidnappings, and liquidations by Ottoman Turkish-backed groups have overtaken the city.

This explosion is not the first explosion to strike the town.

The attacks comes at a time when Ottoman Turkish-backed groups, some of whom who had fought in Afrin, continue their onslaught on Kurdish-controlled territories in northern Syria.

Despite a Ottoman Turkish deals with Russia and the US, and the subsequent withdrawal of Kurdish fighters from the border, Ottoman Turkish-backed groups continued their offensive into northern Syria, especially around the town of Tel Tamr.

While Ottoman Turkish-backed fighters are fighting to take over Kurdish-controlled territories, the Syrian regime and the Russian air force have been trying to take over the hills of Kabani in northwestern province of Latakia, in a bid to gain strategic high ground against Idlib.

Idlib is dominated by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
, an gang of rebels and jihadists formerly affiliated with al-Qaeda and known as Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...

...currently Al Nusra is yet another client of Sultan Erdogan’s neo-Ottoman efforts.
Syrian forces are preparing to start their Idlib offensive in the near future. Syrian regime troops are yet to make meaningful advance, and rebel media have reported the dismantling of at least two regime tanks in the fighting for the strategic hills that overlooks the critical Jisr al-Shogour in northwest of Idlib province.
Al Ahram adds:
Similar car blasts frequently hit crowded civilian areas in the mainly Arab populated towns near the border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
under the control of Ottoman Turkish-backed forces.

Residents and rebels in the rebel-held northwest blame the YPG for the attacks.

The Kurdish-led forces say they are engaged in a guerrilla campaign against Ottoman Turkish forces but deny they target civilians

Bangladesh
Foreign minister admits some female workers tortured in Saudi Arabia
[Dhaka Tribune] Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has acknowledged that some Bangladeshi female workers are tortured in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, but appeared to have downplayed the magnitude of the suffering of the women ‐ who have long been subjected to serious crimes including rape at the hands of their employers there.

He also ruled out any moratorium on sending women workers to the oil rich kingdom, the largest remittance sending country for Bangladesh.

"There are 250,000-300,000 female workers [in Saudi Arabia]. How many of them became victims of such crimes? Some people are being tortured and we have made arrangements for them," the minister told news hounds at his office yesterday.

"We are providing those who are tortured with housing and we are also bringing them back. In some cases these are happening," he replied to a barrage of questions highlighting the plight of Bangladeshi female workers in Saudi Arabia with statistics.

Momen mentioned a day’s development where he handed over cheques to the family of deceased and two injured in the crane accident in Makkah in 2015.

"Bangladesh’s relationship with Saudia Arabia is very good. That is why they paid Tk2.26 crore for the dear departed and Tk1.13 crore for the injured. Think about it," he said.

"Many are returning because the number of jobs has gone down [in Saudi Arabia]," he added.

When suggested that Bangladesh does not "challenge" the Saudi Arabian government about the torture of the female workers, the foreign minister said: "How do you know we don’t challenge? Whenever there is any accident, we instantly inform the Saudi authorities.

"How do you know that we did not challenge? Do we have to tell the public that we have challenged?"

Momen said: "There are 12.2 million expatriates across the world. People die when they are abroad. Only 1% of those amount to 11,000. Think about it. Many people would die normally. Isn’t it?"

If any of our workers face ill treatment, the government immediately draws Saudi Arabia’s attention and they take measures in line with their laws, he said.

On many occasions, information also remains unavailable to deal with the allegations, he added.

The foreign minister refuted a notion that many domestic workers are not able to lodge complaints due to the environment they live in.

"No, no. There is a mechanism in place through which they can complain. We have established shelters for them. Indeed, some victimisations are taking place and we are informing the Saudi government," he said.

"The Saudi authorities are also realising that some incidents are happening. These are happening in individual levels. The [Saudi] government is not victimising them," he stressed.

When asked if Bangladesh will stop sending female workers to Saudi Arabia, the minister said: "We, Bangladesh, do not want to discriminate. We do not want to leave women left behind.

"I don’t want to stop those women who want to go, because in our country man and woman are equal. We do not want to keep women as second class citizens."

leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and warned that the turban group may attempt to stage a "retribution attack".

The declassified, grainy, black-and-white aerial videos from Saturday’s raid showed US special operations forces closing in on the compound and US aircraft firing on bully boyz nearby.

The most dramatic video showed a massive, black plume of smoke rising from the ground after US military bombs leveled Baghdadi’s compound.

"It looks pretty much like a parking lot, with large potholes," said Marine General Kenneth McKenzie, the commander of US Central Command, which oversees American forces in the Middle East.

McKenzie, briefing Pentagon news hounds, said the idea of destroying the compound was at least in part "to ensure that it would not be a shrine or otherwise memorable in any way.

"It’s just another piece of ground," he said.

They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
e on Thursday and the streets largely deserted as federal authorities formally revoked the restive area’s constitutional autonomy and split it into two federal territories.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision in August to change occupied Kashmir’s status and tighten its grip over the region has stoked anger and resentment among Kashmiris.

Just after midnight on Wednesday, the federal government’s orders went into effect, dividing up occupied Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories; one Jammu and Kashmir, and the other the Buddhist-dominated high altitude region of Ladakh.

Both will be directly ruled by Delhi, and new lieutenant governors were due to be sworn in at a high-security governor’s premises later on Thursday.

But the most contentious change for many people is the threat of land grabs by Indians outside the region with the formal abrogation of a clause in the Indian Constitution that safeguarded Kashmiris’ exclusive right to land ownership.

"Everything changes on Thursday," said a retired Kashmiri judge, Hasnain Masoodi, a member of India’s Parliament. "The entire exercise is unconstitutional. The mode and methodology have been undemocratic. People were humiliated and never consulted."

Pakistan hissy fit over India's 'illegal' bifurcation of occupied Kashmir
[DAWN] Pakistain on Thursday rejected the "void" and "illegal" bifurcation of India-Indian Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. e into two union territories, saying that "no step by the government of India" can change the internationally recognised fact that it is a disputed territory.

The Indian government had on August 5 repealed Article 370 of its constitution, stripping Indian Kashmire of its special status. The orders went into effect today, dividing up occupied Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories; one Jammu and Kashmir, and the other the Buddhist-dominated high altitude region of Ladakh.

In a statement released by the Foreign Office, Pakistain termed the move a "complete violation of the UN Security Council Resolutions and bilateral agreements between India and Pakistain, especially the Simla Agreement".

The statement underlined that India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory. "No step by the government of India can change this. These changes are illegal and void as per the relevant UNSC Resolutions, and do not prejudice the right to self-determination of the people of occupied Jammu & Kashmir."

[Infosecurity Magazine] Researchers have discovered another unsecured Elasticsearch database, this time exposing data on thousands of travelers including US military and government employees.

The research team at vpnMentor discovered the online database hosted on AWS infrastructure, on September 13. It belonged to Autoclerk, a reservations management system now owned by hotel chain Best Western Hotels and Resorts Group.

The database contained over 179GB of data, often sourced from third party travel and hospitality platforms including OpenTravel, HAPI Cloud, and Synxis. Among these were hundreds of thousands of bookings and reservations, exposing personal details such as: full name, date of birth, home address, phone number, dates & costs of travel, and masked credit card details.

For ordinary travelers caught in leaks like this, there is the risk of follow-on phishing attacks and identify fraud attempts, as well as a chance that attackers could target their home while they are away.

However, there are even more concerning national security implications for the government personnel data exposed in the incident.

Senate Democrats block defense spending bill over Trump wall
Don't throw us into that briar patch in an election year!
[The Hill] Senate Democrats blocked a defense spending bill for the second time on Thursday, underscoring the hurdles ahead of next month's government funding deadline.

Senators voted 51-41 on whether to advance a spending package that was expected to include the defense funding. The bill needed 60 votes to advance.

Democrats warned ahead of time that they would oppose taking up the bill until lawmakers get a deal on top-line spending figures known as 302(b)s. They previously blocked the defense spending bill in September.

"The Republican leader has been accusing Democrats of threatening to block military funding. Now, that is an absurd statement if there ever was one. We're simply trying to stop Republicans from stealing money from our military and putting it into the wall," Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said ahead of the vote.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) sent a letter this week to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) asking that they "take a meaningful step forward and work together with us to reach bipartisan agreement on 302(b) allocations for all twelve appropriations bills."

"Such an agreement is necessary for appropriators and all of our Members to do their jobs and fund our national priorities," he wrote.

The Senate Appropriations Committee passed its defense spending bill along party lines after Republicans rejected an amendment that would have prevented President Trump from redirecting money toward the border wall without congressional signoff.

Republicans blasted Democrats for blocking the defense bill, noting that it comes even as they've recently criticized Trump's Syria strategy.

"The same Democrats who recently rediscovered hawkish sounding positions on Syria and the Middle East are really going to filibuster a $755 million for the counter ISIS train and equip fund for Iraq and Syria? And filibuster all the other broader funding of our armed services? Really?" McConnell asked.

FETÖ suspect's confessions reveal army infiltration scheme
[DAILYSABAH] Aformer military officer detained for links to the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) revealed how the terrorist group developed a secret method to plant its men into the army. Confessions of the officer identified with his initials S.O. laid bare the group's sinister scheme of infiltration before it moved to seize power in a thwarted coup attempt on July 15, 2016.

S.O. was among thousands of officers detained following the attempt that killed 251 people and injured nearly 2,200 others. Interrogated by prosecutors in Istanbul, he invoked a remorse law that allows suspects to get away with more lenient sentences in exchange of full collaboration with authorities.

The officer was a member of a committee assessing would-be cadets applying for admission to a military school and explained how the terrorist group used a secret coding system to avoid suspicion in their infiltration scheme.

Under the scheme, cadets with no apparent ties to the terrorist group were picked by the committee who'd be only aware of their links to the group thanks to code numbers assigned to each future cadet.

S.O. was arrested in a case related to the FETÖ network at a military school for naval officers. FETÖ is accused of helping infiltrators secure admission to the school during the election of cadets in the 2013 school year.

The officer himself infiltrated into the army with assistance from the terrorist group whose members guided him to take up a military career. He said he would secretly contact FETÖ's point men who helped his military career. He sought to switch to a military intelligence career and asked for help from the terrorist group. He was supplied questions and answers to an exam for admission to the intelligence department by FETÖ and he managed to pass the exam.

Sukkur prayer leader arrested for allegedly raping minor student
[DAWN] A prayer leader from Sukkur's Pano Aqil tehsil was arrested on Thursday for allegedly having raped a ten-year-old girl.

A case was registered by Sukkur Police against the suspect who leads prayers at a mosque in Dildar Samejo village.

"We arrested the prayer leader of the mosque after he was accused of raping a 10-year-old girl and started the paperwork but haven't done much else against him," said Sukkur SSP Irfan Samoon.

According to the SSP, a letter was issued by the police so a medical exam of the girl could be carried out. The girl used to take Holy Koran lessons from the prayer leader, he said.

The minor girl, narrating the incident, said that when she reached the mosque premises for her lesson, she was told by someone that the teacher was calling her. "When I went to see him, he shut the door and window, grabbed me, covered my mouth and pinned my arms down."

The girl's father told DawnNewsTV that the suspect had "subjected the girl to rape multiple times". "She informed us only after falling ill yesterday," he said.

Senate GOP Shifts Tone On Impeachment
Here comes the fix. From the article:
[TheHill] Senate Republicans are taking the House impeachment proceedings against President Trump more seriously as damaging revelations against the president mount and the possibility of a quick dismissal of the charges shrinks.

Earlier this year, GOP senators pledged to quickly quash any articles of impeachment passed by the House. But as the Democrats compile more evidence that Trump withheld military assistance from Ukraine to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, they are adopting a more sober tone.

While no Senate Republican has said the charges against Trump rise to the level of being an impeachable offense, many have expressed concern over the drip-drip of damaging revelations.

Meanwhile Lindsey Graham will step down Judiciary Committee Chair after 2020.

As VDH writes, their longer-term goal is to discourage future conservative presidential candidates (and conservative contituencies) by making the process so onerous and painful no one will wish to participate.

A single party system is the goal. Cities like Chicago, New York and states such as California are the desired outcomes. The individual candidate you vote for (if you sill bother to vote) will not matter. It is the party candidate, their party.

As the governments of both Iraq and Leb are supported by Iran, the protests pose a challenge to Iran, which closely backs both governments as well as powerful gangs in each country. An increasingly violent crackdown in Iraq against the Tehran-backed government and an attack by Hezbollah supporters on the main protest camp in Beirut have raised fears of a backlash by Iran and its allies.

9th Circus Court blocks Trump immigration rules for LAPD grant
[SDUT] A federal appeals court says the Trump administration can't require Los Angeles police to cooperate with immigration agents in order to receive public safety grants.
"Give us the money, Lebowski!"
A panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday upheld a lower court ruling rejecting efforts to impose immigration enforcement requirements for Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants.

The ruling is one of several that have blocked administration efforts to withhold money from sanctuary cities.

The administration sought to withhold the grant ‐ a major funding source ‐ unless the LAPD gave immigration agents access to city jails and advance notice of immigrants being released.

The city argued police shouldn't have to enforce civil immigration policy and that immigrants who feared deportation would be less likely to cooperate with police or report crimes.

#8  Sedition or Malfeasance:
Elements of Malfeasance

In determining whether a public official has committed malfeasance, the courts must consider whether certain elements have been fulfilled. While every circumstance is different, the following elements generally must be present:
1.The official has committed an affirmative act or omission – this means the official has physically taken action, or purposely decided not to act.
2.The act must have been performed in the individual’s official capacity.
3.The act interferes with the individual’s performance of his official duties, or with the official duties of another public official.

CA: Under the Weather(Underground) - SF DA Soros Candidate opposed
[San Diego Reader] San Diego cops are wading into a nasty fight over who should be the next District Attorney of San Francisco. The target: Chesa Boudin, a liberal in the race triggered when incumbent George Gascon suddenly quit and headed off to Los Angeles to explore a bid for D.A. there against pro-police D.A. Jackie Lacey.

A child of Weather Underground bomb builders who went to prison in conjunction with the 1981 Brink's robbery in New York, Boudin has been San Francisco's deputy public defender. He joins the ranks of those around the country in similar lines of work trying to get elected top prosecutors, including Geneviéve Jones-Wright who failed in her election bid last year against Summer Stephan. Like Jones-Wright, Boudin is being linked by his foes to liberal billionaire George Soros.

Two weeks ago, San Francisco cops set up an anti-Boudin political fund called the Committee for a Safer and Cleaner San Francisco Opposing Boudin for District Attorney 2019 sponsored by San Francisco Police Officers Association. "Boudin has never prosecuted a case in his life and is a danger to public safety, period," Officers Association president Tony Montoya told the San Francisco Examiner. "He will work harder at finding ways for criminals to get back on our streets than protecting crime victims and increasing neighborhood safety."

The Bay Area cops union has so far kicked in a total of $50,000 to its new anti-Boudin Committee, per the paper, with more promised. The effort is their biggest since last year when San Francisco police tried but failed to get voters there to equip cops with stun guns via the ballot box. On October 18, the San Diego Police Officers Association, also ardent foes of Jones-Wright, came through with an initial $5000 contribution to their San Francisco brethren's anti-progressive push, according to a disclosure filing with San Diego's city clerk's office.

Europe
French Senate bans mothers wearing headscarves from school trips
[DAILYSABAH] The French Senate approved a bill Tuesday proposed by the mainstream right that would oblige women wearing headscarves to remove them when accompanying school outings.

The issue has been in the news in recent weeks since a far-right politician objected to a mother wearing a headscarf who was accompanying a school trip to a regional assembly meeting. The move came a day after two elderly men were seriously injured in a shooting attack at a mosque in the southern city of Bayonne. A suspect with a far-right background is in jug.

The bill also needs to be approved by the National Assembly, to enter into effect.

But as the ruling party, the Republic on the Move ‐ which has a majority in the national assembly ‐ is against the bill, it is unlikely that the bill will be approved.

18 Syrian soldiers captured by militants in northern Syria have been released
That seems wise...
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Ottoman Turkish-backed forces of Evil have released 18 Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers that were captured in the Ras al-’Ayn countryside this past week.

According to reports, the soldiers were released to the Russian military police near the city of Ras al-’Ayn in the northwestern countryside of the al-Hasakah Governorate this evening.

The reports said some soldiers had minor wounds from battle, but they have received some treatment for their injuries.

This agreement to release the 18 Syrian Army prisoners was brokered by the Russian military police, as they called on their Ottoman Turkish partners to help return these soldiers.

Terror Networks
Kurdish general reveals details about who sold Baghdadi out to US
[ALMASDARNEWS] An unnamed personal "security official" of ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi passed information about the terrorist number one’s movements and safe houses to Kurdish militia, NBC News reported, citing Syrian Democratic Forces General Mazloum Abdi. According to Abdi, the spy in al-Baghdadi’s inner circle was responsible for "securing the places" where the ISIS* leader was hiding.

"Al-Baghdadi took his security precautions to the highest level. He never used high-tech communications at all. Any place he was in, was in a communications blackout, with exception of those who were directly responsible for his security", the general said.

Abdi revealed that the "official" who betrayed al-Baghdadi did so out of a desire for Dire Revenge against both ISIS* and its leader after allegedly losing hope in the group’s "future". The Kurdish general further said that the spy was present at the terrorist’s hideout when it was assaulted by US forces, and was subsequently evacuated from it.

TOUGH ROAD TO THE OPERATION
Mazloum Abdi stated that the spy was regularly providing the Kurdish militia with information that was later transmitted to the US. The person didn’t know the exact location of the safe house, but managed to make observations and notice landmarks that allegedly helped US intelligence pinpoint his location to a facility in Syria’s Idlib province.

"The idea that al-Baghdadi was in Idlib was completely unexpected. It was a surprise to everyone", Abdi said, referring to the presence of terrorist groups in the province that had been rivals of ISIS* in the past.

US intelligence services were not especially keen on working based on the spy’s information, fearing that it could be a trap, the Kurdish general said. But the attitude changed after the spy reportedly managed to smuggle al-Baghdadi’s blood samples and underwear for a DNA test that confirmed his identity. Abdi didn’t clarify how their asset in ISIS* managed to pull this feat off.

The operation to take out al-Baghdadi was also on the verge of failure, as it was delayed by US President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
’s decision to pull US forces out from northern Syria. At the same time, the ISIS* leader was preparing to change his hideout to a new, unknown one, according to Abdi. He estimated that al-Baghdadi would move to a new location within 48 hours if the operation was not carried out.

#15  Had to look up SouthPark. Maybe I should write a funny book when I'm not doing anything. It'll keep me in good spirits too. Aaah... Rantburg's enough.

the "official" who betrayed al-Baghdadi did so out of a desire for revenge against both ISIS* and its leader after allegedly losing hope in the group’s "future".

Leads me to believe more and more that the Hazimite faction had something to do with it.

#16  Isn't it usually the Grand Vizier who does in the Caliph?
Posted by: Fred || 11/01/2019 17:16 Comments || Top||

#17  Do they have a grand vizier/wazir ? I think daesh caliphate is more on the lines of the rashidun, who kept six expendable advisors and no wazir.

Turkish-backed militants handover 11 towns to Russian military in Al-Raqqa
[ALMASDARNEWS] Syrian armed forces demanded from FSA gangs to leave 11 settlements in Ayn Issa area of Tal Abyad district and to hand them over to the Russian military police.

"The FSA groups have departed from these 11 villages per the request of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
’s armed forces and handed them over to the Russian military police", the source said.
The Ottoman Turkish military had informed the FSA that those settlements were not part of the safe zone’s border, the source explained.

On 9 October, Turkey launched Operation Peace Spring in northeastern Syria to clear the area of Kurdish units and ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
* terrorists. The United States and Turkey came to an agreement on 17 October for a 120-hour ceasefire in the area to allow the withdrawal of the Kurdish fighters.

As the five-day ceasefire came to an end, Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
reached a deal to pull the Kurdish fighters back and establish joint patrols in the operation zone along the Ottoman Turkish border.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
George Washington, Spymaster Extraordinaire
[The Intelligencer] At the time of the American Revolution, England was the world’s strongest military and naval power. Yet it was soundly defeated by George Washington and his rag-tag army of colonial revolutionaries and patriots. How could this have happened?

Surprisingly, the British provided the answer. Major George Beckwith, the head of British intelligence operations in the Colonies, upon returning to England in defeat, was quoted as saying, "Washington did not really outfight the British, he simply out-spied us!" Beckwith had thus credited the winning of the war, and thus the creation of our new nation, to Washington’s superior intelligence operations.

Washington had learned a hard lesson when he was a 21-year-old adjutant under British General Edward Braddock during the French and Indian War. Braddock’s forces were ambushed in the Monongahela Valley by the French and Indians and virtually annihilated. Washington escaped after his horse was shot out from under him. Braddock was mortally wounded, as were 615 of his officers and 914 soldiers. The French simply had an effective intelligence network and were aware of Braddock’s every move well in advance. Washington would never forget this bitter lesson and never again be so surprised.

Syrian Army reinforcements pour into northwest Hasakah to halt militant advance
You’ve got this, Bashir Assad.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has sent several units of reinforcements to the northwestern countryside of the al-Hasakah Governorate on Thursday.

According to reports from northwestern al-Hasakah, the Syrian Army reinforcements poured in from several areas across northern Syria, as they attempt to halt the hard boy advance near the key town of Tal Tamr.

The Syrian Army reinforcements were sent to this front following a successful counter-attack by the military and allied Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) north of Tal Tamr last night.

A source from the army said the military is hoping to forestall the hard boy advance, while further securing the territories around Tal Tamr’s northern and western countrysides.

The Ottoman Turkish-backed gunnies have captured several areas between Ras al-’Ayn and Tal Tamr over the last week, but this is mostly due to the fact they possess heavier weapons and air support from the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces.
