Assault Charges Filed Against Maxine Waters with Washington DC Police
Curmudgeonly & Skeptical
Charges have been filed against Democrat Maxine Waters after a video of her assaulting a journalist went viral on social media.

An assault complaint has been made by the victim, journalist Laura Loomer, who claims Waters physically assaulted her three times.

Loomer claims the incident took place when she asked Mrs. Waters for comment regarding last weekend's rally in which the Congresswoman called for violent riots and the use of violence against Republicans.

The alleged assault was caught on video which Loomer says she has shown to police as evidence of the crime.

MD Sheriff: 'Multiple Fatalities' in Annapolis Newsroom Shooting
[FoxNews] A Maryland sheriff confirmed to Fox News Thursday that there are "multiple fatalities" at the offices of the Annapolis Capital-Gazette.

Anne Arundel County Sheriff Ron Bateman told Shepard Smith that a suspect has been apprehended at the newspaper's office, located on Bestgate Road, off Defense Highway in Parole, Md.

Authorities have not released any information on the suspect or a potential motive.

The Capital-Gazette, which serves the Annapolis area and Kent Narrows, is a subsidiary of the Baltimore Sun newspaper, and Trace Gallagher reported that newsroom was later swept for possible threats.

Anne Arundel County Sheriffs Office spokesman Mark Limansky told the Associated Press that the "situation is active" as of 3:15 p.m. local time.

Defense Highway, or MD-450, a main suburban alternate to the Annapolis-to-Washington expressway US-50/US-301, has been shut down, according to Trace Gallagher.

The New York City Police Department, "out of an abundance of caution" is dispatching teams of officers to all media outlets in the city.

Shepard Smith noted those outlets includes eight local television stations. New York is also home to Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, CBS and NBC News.

An intern at the Annapolis Capital-Gazette, Anthony Messenger, tweeted a cry for help around the time the shooting was first reported.

#2  Via Drudge Report, CBS Baltimore adds

Senior law enforcement officials confirmed with CBS News that the suspect is a white man in his 20s and didn’t have identification on him. He is also reportedly refusing to identify himself to authorities.

CBS News is also reporting that the suspect was armed with a shotgun

What “white” in this context means remains to be seen...

If Hillary And Democrats Laundered $84 Million In 2016, They Should Face Justice
[The Federalist] Hillary Clinton’s days of political relevance may be behind her, but her scandals are not. While Clinton’s years at the State Department were marred by scandal after scandal, they pale in comparison to her time running for higher office.

In 2016, the Democratic presidential candidate may have presided over the largest campaign finance scandal in U.S. history. A lawsuit based on federal records alleges the Clinton machine laundered $84 million in excessive six-figure contributions through the Hillary Victory Fund, to dozens of Democratic state parties, on to the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and ultimately to Clinton’s campaign.

Democrats and their media allies downplay the accusation as some partisan ploy, claiming the accusers are "fishing for publicity." They chalk it up to a Donald Trump supporter’s anti-Clinton bias. That’s when Democrats mention it at all, otherwise staying stunningly silent in the face of growing information that boggles the mind.

Yes, I’m a Trump supporter, but dodging the question doesn’t make it go away: Did Hillary Clinton, dozens of Democratic Party officials, and hundreds of liberal mega-donors break the law? The evidence‐built entirely from Democrats’ own Federal Election Commission (FEC) reporters and public statements‐clearly points to "yes."

The lawsuit is likely to result in many more public documents being aired about what really went on behind the scenes in 2016, which is already giving rise to negative news coverage. In recent weeks, news stories from around the country have implicated Democratic state parties in Delaware, Kansas, Maine, Nevada, and other states for their part in papering over excessive donations from mega-donors like fashion icon Calvin Klein and "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane to the Clinton campaign.

Reports say the Virginia Democratic Party, for example, was used to funnel nearly $2.4 million from the Hillary Victory Fund to the DNC during the 2016 election, retaining not a single penny from six-figure contributors who almost certainly understood how their money would flow. The Nevada Democratic Party is on the hook for roughly $1.6 million. Kansas Democrats, meanwhile, "can’t account for $900,000" in excessive funds.

Ryan Warns of 'Escalating Taxes' with Tariffs as Trump Hits at Harley-Davidson
[PJ] WASHINGTON -- House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said those pushing tariffs have to be mindful of the consequence of escalating taxes as President Trump threatened that Harley-Davidson would be "taxed like never before" for moving some operations overseas.

The company said the move is necessary because of the $3.4 billion tariffs the EU began levying Friday in retaliation for Trump's 25 percent steel and 10 percent aluminum tariffs. Nearly 40,000 Harleys were sold in the EU last year; the new tariffs on motorcycles jumped as high as 31 percent.

"Harley-Davidson maintains a strong commitment to U.S.-based manufacturing which is valued by riders globally," the company said Monday. "Increasing international production to alleviate the EU tariff burden is not the company’s preference, but represents the only sustainable option to make its motorcycles accessible to customers in the EU and maintain a viable business in Europe. Europe is a critical market for Harley-Davidson."

#4  So trump is going after the EU tariffs. He is trying to help Harley our, and they show loyalty by moving production? Harley has a couple of problems. First is bad management. They make terrible decisions. From the outside it looks like family agendas and group think take over. But I'm not on the inside so I don't know. What we do know is motorcycle purchases are down 40% from ten years ago. Not just Harley. The EU is seeing a market growth in bike and Harley has worked hard at capturing it. Moving small parts of production outside the US on focused markets is ok. Harley is planning on making bike in the market for that market. No one in the US want an EU styled bike. So let them. The bad corporate decision was to go public and blame trump for something already in the works. Stupid, stupid.

Texas executes 'ice pick killer' for 1979 murder
June 27 (UPI) -- Texas executed Danny Bible on Wednesday despite objections by his lawyers that the death row inmate was too ill for lethal injection.

The 66-year-old had no final words before his execution, though The Houston Chronicle reported he muttered "burning" and "it hurts" before losing consciousness. He died 15 minutes after the injection began.
You may feel some mild discomfort. Relief after 15 minutes is common.
Bible was put to death for the 1979 murder of 20-year-old Inez Deaton. Her slaying went unsolved for nearly 20 years, but after police arrested Bible in Florida in 1998, he confessed to raping her and stabbing her 10 times with an ice pick.

He became known as the "ice pick killer."

Terror Networks
Ahmed Abu Khatallah - Accused leader of Benghazi attack sentenced to 22 years
June 27 (UPI) -- The first suspect to be charged in the 2012 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya was sentenced to 22 years in prison, the Justice Department announced on Wednesday.

Ahmed Abu Khatallah,
....before his capture a leader in a revolutionary gang working to overthrow Moammar Khaddaffy...
a former auto mechanic who prosecutors accused of masterminding the attack that killed four Americans, was found guilty on Nov. 28 of several terrorism-related charges. But Khatallah was found not guilty of the more serious charges, including murder.

The sentence imposed Wednesday is for conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, destroying property, placing lives in jeopardy within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States and one count of using and carrying a semiautomatic assault rifle during a crime of violence.

Despite being found not guilty of the more serious charges, District Judge Christopher Cooper still could have imposed a life sentence on Khatallah based on the charges he was convicted of but chose not to.

"Even if you did not pour the gasoline or light the match, the evidence showed you were aware of the attack, and once the gates were breached, the likelihood someone would die was extreme high. This was not guilt by association," Cooper told Khatallah, according to The Washington Post. "This case stands as an exemplar for the principle that a defendant accused of international terrorism can get a fair trial in the U.S. criminal justice system."

Khatallah's sentence marks an end to a four-year legal battle since he was captured in Libya on June 14, 2014 and taken to the United States to stand trial.

Are you living in a psychopath state? New research shows!
[American Thinker] Everyone who has ever participated in fruitless political discussions can guess what is going on. However, few people knew for sure why most of such discussions end inconclusively. It seems that now we know the answer: a study by Professor Ryan Murphy titled "Psychopathy by U.S. State." It's worth mentioning that Murphy's research is not politically motivated, like Rossiter's book The Liberal Mind.

Without going into the details of Professor Murphy's research methodology, we note that Connecticut is at the top of the psychopathic pyramid in America. It is followed by the states of California, New Jersey, New York, Wyoming, Maine, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Illinois. Virginia closes the top ten most "psychopathic states," whose populations show personality characteristics of antisocial behavior.

It is easy to see that the five states from this top psycho-list also occupy a place in the top ten states with the largest tax burden in America.

Most importantly, eight of the ten most psychopathic states in the U.S. voted for Hillary Clinton.

At the bottom of the psychopathic pyramid of America is the state of West Virginia. It is followed by Vermont, Tennessee, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Montana, Mississippi, and Indiana. Oregon closes the top ten least psychopathic states. Only Vermont on this list belongs to the half of the states distinguished by high levels of taxation, and the remaining nine are well known for their low taxes.

This Could Be A Major Reason Dems Won't Press Charges Against Awans [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Caller News Foundation, Chris Bedford, shed light on a hacking scandal Wednesday surrounding Democratic Rep. Yvette Clarke and her possible ties to Pakistan.

"These allegations bring a new kind of allegation to the whole Awan case. So far we’ve really been dealing with hacking and unauthorized access to networks, possibly ferreting information back to Pakistan," Bedford said on Fox Business’ "Mornings With Maria." "Now we actually have people who are implicating a chief of staff for a congresswoman, Yvette Clarke. Chief of staff Shelley Davis."

Who Benefits from College Sports Programs ‐ and Who Pays?
[National Review] College sports are usually enshrouded in scandal, but defenders reply that they do loads of good because they give "student-athletes" a chance at college they probably would not have otherwise. Even when that chance works out and the player graduates, he usually has a low-grade academic credential that bespeaks little gain in knowledge and skill.

In today’s Martin Center article, two economics professors, Jody Lipford and Jerry Slice, examine the impact of college sports. Who are the students who supposedly benefit from sports programs, and who pays for those benefits?

One of their findings is that sports programs are largely paid for by other students, but how much they have to pay varies greatly with the type of school. At a big university such as the University of North Carolina, the cost is spread over a huge number of students, so their outlay in additional fees comes to just a few hundred dollars. But at small schools, the extra cost heaped on the rest of the student body runs much higher ‐ over $1,500 per year. Pretty steep for many of them.

Lipford and Slice also conclude that the students who attend those smaller schools are generally less affluent and less well prepared for college education. Thus, sports have something of a reverse Robin Hood effect.

As you’d expect from good economists, the authors are concerned about the opportunity costs. They write:

Resources have alternative uses, and resources devoted to athletics could be channeled to academic support or lower tuition bills, especially today when the high cost of a college education and heavy student debt loads are being questioned.

I once asked a guest author for the Martin Center who is a New Zealand native what he thought about our penchant for college sports. He replied that in his country, college is for studying, not playing sports. Very sensible of the Kiwis.
Emphasis added.

#3  Long time past for the old regents graft game to end. Put oversight directly in the hands of the pols in the Statehouse. They can divvy up who gets what schools. Suddenly the cost to 'my' kid to attend a state university or college comes into direct focus without layers of excuses for inaction.

#5  Really would need to see the Real Data because there is a smell of Bovine Scat here. At the Uni I attended there were two (2) different programs at work: the (#1) Semi-Pro Football/Basketball/Baseball Program that had its own funding stream and offered cut price tickets to student ID holders to attend games. They also depended on money from Bowl Games, product endorsements, tickets, and donations** for their revenue stream -- they were basically an independent entity on the financial side. And where there is money there is going to be corruption and, yes, it is going to stink.(**One Interesting *Donation* was that Alumni were offered progressively better seat locations for higher $donations$...)

Then there was the Second (#2) Group of Amateur Student Athlete Programs that had facilities for everything from Tennis to Swimming to Rugby to Chess -- this was supported by levies on the "Student Activity Fees" (i.e. the Student's pockets) and 'some' money from the "Semi-Pro" Athletic Department. But if you want to go play a game of Tennis *someone* has to pay for the upkeep, eh?

So it is a little more complicated, isn't it? I recommend that the authors go watch Chariots of Fire(1981) and fuel their nostalgia about how rich students could indulge in "student athletics" as a hobby in Ye Gold, Olde Dayes.

A New Supreme Court Justice Might Help Defang Federal Agencies.
h/t Instapundit
You probably never heard of the "Chevron Deference," and frankly, neither did I until just today. And no, it has nothing to do with gasoline stations. But with Justice Anthony Kennedy retiring, a new Supreme Court Justice just might help to defang this decision ‐ a good move towards smaller government.

The Chevron Deference, which came from a 1984 ruling, requires courts to defer to government agencies when it comes to interpretations of statutes, if the court finds a statute ambiguous. And even if a court finds that another interpretation is reasonable, it still must defer to that agency’s interpretation.

That sounds a bit like allowing the fox to guard the henhouse, doesn’t it?

...Justice Gorsuch is no fan of the Chevron deference. As a federal appellate judge, Justice Gorsuch wrote that Chevron allowed the Feds. . .

". . .to swallow huge amounts of core judicial and legislative power...in a way that seems more than a little difficult to square with the Constitution."

Of course that put big government advocates in a tizzy. Liberal Vox fretted that "Neil Gorsuch could rein in regulators like the EPA and the FCC."

And that would be bad because? Oh, wait. Say goodbye to the Left’s dream of ’net neutrality,’ along with other big government ambitions.

Now this summer President Trump will be nominating a new justice to the Supreme Court, and he intends to pick from the same list that gave us Justice Neil Gorsuch. Furthermore, some conservative pundits are predicting the nod will go to one of three women.

And Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says a vote on Kennedy’s successor will happen this fall:

FormerSupreme Court of Texas for 12 years, Cheif Justice for many of those. Willett’s jurisprudence emphasizes limitations on the state’s police power, broad views of economic liberty and property rights. Very qualified. And young in 40s. Means he will be on the court 30+ years.

Big Guy, reconsider.

Drop Barret. No real background record, and is a law school prof.

Thapar is a conservative, but he owes his career advancement to McConnell. Nuf said.

Kethledge's opinions speak well for him (he was the one that slammed the IRS lawyers for dodging around). He's a good one

Kavanaugh wrote a dissent about the upholding of Obamacare constitutionality. He's pretty good from what I read as well.

Pres. Trump: Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi are 'the unhinged face' of the Democratic party
[Wash Times] President Trump blasted Rep. Maxine Waters and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi Wednesday, the morning after three primary upsets meant losses for the Democratic establishment.

Mr. Trump accused the two California congresswoman of weakening the country.
Congratulations to Maxine Waters, whose crazy rants have made her, together with Nancy Pelosi, the unhinged FACE of the Democrat Party. Together, they will Make America Weak Again! But have no fear, America is now stronger than ever before, and I’m not going anywhere!

‐ Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 27, 2018
Mrs. Pelosi and Ms. Waters have both been involved in politics since the 1980s.

However, Tuesday night’s elections shook up the Democratic Party.

Three Democratic primaries in New York, Maryland and Colorado resulted in more progressive wins for the party over more establishment candidates. Ben Jealous took the Democrat slot in Maryland’s gubernatorial race, and Rep. Jared Polis won the nomination in Colorado.

The biggest upset of the night was in New York, as newcomer Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defeated Rep. Joseph Crowley. Mr. Crowley was in line for party leadership prior to his defeat Tuesday.

Pass the Popcorn: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Looks Like a Raging Dumpster Fire.
h/t Instapundit
Anthony Kennedy sucked all the air out of the news cycle on Wednesday, but there’s another name in the political spotlight. Only this one might not be ready for prime time.

Her name is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and as of late Tuesday night she was the new Democratic It Girl. It’s because she did what seemed impossible: beating Congressman Joe Crowley in a primary. Now this was a Big Deal, since not only is Crowley a 10-term Congressman from New York’s 14th District in Queens, but rumors were flying that he could take Nancy Pelosi’s spot as Democratic House Leader.

Yet the 28-year-old former cocktail waitress, Bernie Bro, and member of the Democratic Socialists of America prevailed. And she ran on these points which should give anyone to the right of Karl Marx some major heartburn. Abolishment of ICE, a jobs guarantee, Medicare for all, free college ‐ what could possibly go wrong?

...For starters, there was This Guy who showed up at her victory party: The guy behind Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is Thomas Lopez-Pierre, (circled) he ran for NYC Council last year against a Jewish Councilman, his campaign platform was to defeat the "greedy Jewish landlords."
https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.jpost.com/Diasp
Probably an advantage with her constituency

...Ocasio-Cortez showed up on CNN on Wednesday morning after her big win and accused ICE of running "black sites" at the border.
Black sites?
Well, yeah, she says. The childhood facilities at the border protect the privacy of the children there, so that means they’re "black sites," or something.

...Yep, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a dumpster fire. But she’ll win in November, no doubt. The borough in Queens she hopes to represent is deep blue, so there’s little chance of a GOP victory. And it looks like New York’s 14th District just elected themselves a joke.
Another cutie pie who build a career on being a cutie pie - without realizing this, and now thinks she's a genius --- universities (Israeli as well as American) are full of women like her.

Hog farmers win new protections as lawmakers override Roy Cooper's veto
[Charlotte Observer] North Carolina will place new limits on how and when neighbors of hog farms can sue the agriculture businesses next door.

The state legislature gave final approval on Wednesday to a bill that restricts nuisance lawsuits against farms and other livestock and forestry operations. The state House voted 74 to 45 in the morning to override a veto that Gov. Roy Cooper issued on Monday. The Senate voted on Tuesday to reverse the governor's action.

"Overriding this veto and correcting Gov. Cooper’s unwise decision sends the clear message to our family farmers and rural communities that they have a voice in the legislature and that this General Assembly intends to give them the respect they deserve," Sen. Brent Jackson, a Sampson County Republican and farmer, said in a statement. "This was never a partisan issue or about politics, but about doing what is right, and I am glad we had bipartisan support in both chambers as we stand up for our farmers."

The North Carolina Farm Act, or Senate Bill 711, sparked heated debate in the General Assembly. Rep. Billy Richardson, a Fayetteville Democrat and attorney, and Rep. John Blust, a Guilford County Republican and attorney, gave impassioned speeches, urging their fellow lawmakers not to put any more limits on the hog farm neighbors. They said the curbs went against bedrock principles on which this country was built.

Criminal Behavior, Not Racism, Explains 'Racial Disparities' in Crime Stats
[Townhall] A new study on racial disparities in police conduct found that differences in offending by suspects, not racism, explains officers' responses.

In the study "Is There Evidence of Racial Disparity in Police Use of Deadly Force?" professors from Michigan State and Arizona State universities analyzed officer-involved fatal shootings in 2015 and 2016. The report's abstract says: "We benchmark two years of fatal shooting data on 2016 crime rate estimates. When adjusting for crime, we find no systematic evidence of anti-black disparities in fatal shootings, fatal shootings of unarmed citizens, or fatal shootings involving misidentification of harmless objects... Exposure to police given crime rate differences likely accounts for the higher per capita rate of fatal police shootings for blacks, at least when analyzing all shootings. For unarmed shootings or misidentification shootings, data are too uncertain to be conclusive."

Two recent studies found cops more reluctant to use deadly force against blacks, including one by a black Harvard economist. Professor Roland G. Fryer Jr. concluded: "On the most extreme use of force -- officer-involved shootings -- we find no racial differences in either the raw data or when contextual factors are taken into account."

French Jihadist Admits Islamic State Planned to Send Child Soldiers to Carry Out Attacks in Europe
[Breitbart London] A French member of Islamic State has admitted that the organisation had made plans to send child soldiers disguised as underage asylum seekers to Europe to carry out terrorist attacks.

French jihadist Jonathan Geffroy was captured by the Free Syrian Army in early 2017 and given over to French authorities later that year where currently he awaits trial for criminal conspiracy, Le Monde reports.

Geffroy was interrogated several times between September 2017 and February 2018 by the French General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI), claiming that he wanted to cooperate with the counter-terrorism organisation.

The jihadist said that he was in close contact with Jean-Michel and Fabien Clain while in Syria. The brothers are believed to be the highest-ranking French members of Islamic State still alive in the region and they were the ones, according to Geffroy, who wanted to send child soldiers to Europe to carry out attacks.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran reopens uranium feedstock plant in preparation to boost enrichment
[Ynet] Following orders by supreme leader, atomic energy agency relaunches, in symbolic move, a plant for production of UF6, the feedstock for centrifuge machines that enrich uranium.

Iran has reopened a nuclear plant idle for nine years, its atomic energy agency (AEOI) said on Wednesday, as Tehran prepares to increase uranium enrichment capacity if a nuclear deal with world powers falls apart after the US withdrawal.

US-Iranian tensions have resurged since President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
pulled Washington out of the 2015 nuclear accord, calling it deeply flawed. Under the deal, Iran restricted its enrichment program to ease concerns it could not be put to developing nuclear weapons and in return won relief from sanctions.

European signatories are trying to save the accord, which they see as crucial to forestalling an Iranian nuclear weapon. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered the AEOI this month to start preparations to upgrade enrichment capacity in case the European efforts fail.

The AEOI said on Wednesday that in response to Khamenei's order and Trump's renunciation of the deal, a plant for the production of UF6, the feedstock for centrifuge machines that enrich uranium, had been relaunched and a barrel of yellow cake has been delivered there.

Uranium ore, known as yellow cake, is converted into a gas called uranium hexafluoride (UF6) before enrichment.

The UF6 factory, which had been inactive since 2009 due to a lack of yellow cake, is part of the Isfahan uranium conversion facility, according to AEOI's statement on its website.

"Iran has imported a huge amount of yellow cake since the nuclear deal" in 2015, and had also produced some domestically.

The ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN nuclear watchdog that is policing Iran's compliance with the nuclear deal, said on June 5 that the AEOI had informed it of "tentative" plans to resume production of UF6.

The move is symbolic and permissible under the nuclear deal, which allows Iran to enrich uranium to 3.67 percent, far below the 90 percent of weapons-grade uranium, and caps its stock of enriched uranium hexafluoride at 300 kilograms (660 pounds).

President Hassan Rouhani has written to counterparts in La Belle France, Germany and Britannia, warning that time to salvage the nuclear deal is running out.

Rouhani's chief of staff, Mahmoud Vaezi, was quoted as saying on Wednesday by the government's website that Rouhani had expressed Iran's demands "very clearly" in this letter.

Washington will start reimposing some economic penalties on Tehran in August and more in November.

New Poll Is Extremely Bad News For The NFL
In TEXAS? As Keanu Reeves would say - Whoa!
[The Smoke Room] - Nearly half of the state’s registered voters have an unfavorable opinion of the National Football League, according to the latest University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll.

Black voters had the most positive opinions of the NFL ‐ 49 percent favorable and 24 percent unfavorable. Among Hispanic voters, 29 percent were positive and 39 percent were negative. #1  Its the damned protests. But its also the political correctness, the pink cleats for a month, the bowing to LBGTQUVWXYZ grievance mongering, the kissing ass to SJWs, and putting them on the air, especially from ESPN, like Olberman. And its the winy asshole self-entitled millionaire players that talk down to us while refusing to respect the flag. Thats worst of all.

Want to fix it? Stop with the Thursday Night games, they are bad for the game and bad for the players. And also drop those damned pink cleats and crap for breast cancer (Heart Disease kills far more). But mostly, get your announcers, and spokespeople to stop with the SJW politics. No politics. Period. Police seize thousands in Hamas cash from family of dead terrorist who killed 8
[IsraelTimes] Cops confiscate money from East Jerusalem home of Alaa Abu Dheim, who killed students in a terror attack at Jerusalem's Mercaz Harav yeshiva in 2008

Police seized tens of thousands of shekels from the family of an East Jerusalem terrorist on Wednesday, which cops said was paid as a stipend by the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terror group.

The NIS 43,000 ($11,800) in Israeli and foreign currency had been given to the family of Alaa Abu Dheim, who in 2008 rubbed out eight Israeli students, aged 15-26, in Jerusalem’s Mercaz Harav yeshiva and maimed 11 more.

Abu Dheim, from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber, was killed during the attack by an off-duty IDF captain and a student in the yeshiva.

"The activities carried out this morning were another step in the general actions of the Israel Police and security forces to prevent, thwart and stop those directly involved in riots or terror activities in Jerusalem, and also against those who encourage and support terrorists," police said in a statement.

"The operation was the result of covert activity and targeted intelligence gathering by the Israeli Police and security forces which found that the family of the terrorist who live in East Jerusalem received cash and funding from Hamas in support for the murderous terror attack," police said.

"We will not permit financial support from a terror organization for the families of bully boyz who carry out murderous attacks," they added.

Security forces and politicians have worked to end payments from the Paleostinian Authority and from Paleostinian terror groups to families of bully boyz which they say encourage further attacks.

On Wednesday politicians gave the final go-ahead for a decisive vote on a bill that would slash funds to the PA by the amount Ramallah pays out to convicted terrorists.

The bill, proposed by Yesh Atid MK Elazar Stern and Likud MK Avi Dichter, says that welfare payments paid out by the PA to Paleostinian prisoners and their relatives must be deducted from tax revenues Israel transfers annually to the administrative body. The money withheld in this way would instead go into a fund designated to help victims of terror attacks.

Under the current law, based on the 1994 Oslo Accords that established the PA and the mechanism for Israeli funding, the finance minister already has the ability to freeze funds.

The measure, which would cut hundreds of millions of shekels from tax revenues transferred to the PA, is similar to a measure recently passed in the US, known as the Taylor Force Act, withholding funding to the PA over stipends to bully boyz and their families.

According to the Defense Ministry, the PA in 2017 paid NIS 687 million ($198 million) to the so-called "deaders’ families fund" and NIS 550 million ($160 million) to the Paleostinian Prisoners’ Club ‐ some 7 percent of its overall budget.

Paleostinian prisoners serving 20- to 30-year sentences for carrying out terror attacks are eligible for a lifetime NIS 10,000 ($2,772) monthly stipend, the Defense Ministry said, citing PA figures. Those prisoners who receive a three- to five-year sentence get a monthly wage of NIS 2,000 ($554). Paleostinian prisoners who are married, have children, live in Jerusalem, or hold Israeli citizenship receive additional payments.

The Defense Ministry last month released figures alleging that some bully boyz who killed Israelis will be paid more than NIS 10 million ($2.78 million) each throughout their lifetimes by the PA.

IDF shoots, wounds 3 terrorists breaching Gaza border
[Ynet] Army confirms it foiled attempt to infiltrate the Israel border east of Rafah, shortly after 15-year-old Paleostinian seriously maimed by live rounds while also breaching fence; teen transported to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon for treatment.

Three Paleostinians were shot by IDF soldiers on Wednesday evening near the Gazoo border after the army "spotted the bandidos bully boyz damaging the fence and trying to infiltrate into Israeli territory from southern Gazoo," according to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit.

The incident, which took place, east of Rafah, left the Paleostinians maimed. Their condition was not immediately clear.

"The forces responded with fire against the bandidos bully boyz and prevented an infiltration," the IDF statement said.

Paleostinian media initially reported that four people had been injured.

Earlier in the day, the IDF fired at a group of Paleostinians who tried to breach the border with Israel near Kibbutz Mefalsim.

A 15-year-old Paleostinian teen was maimed and evacuated to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon for treatment. His condition is described as critical.

Earlier in the day, the joint military branches of all terror organization in Gazoo took responsibility for rocket fire on the Gazoo border region early Wednesday morning, which they claim was in response to an Israeli attack on a Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, krazed killer's vehicle.

"A bombing will be answered with a bombing," a statement issued from the strip said, adding that they are ready to retaliate immediately to any Israeli military provocation.

Paleostinian sources familiar with the details questionws the credibility of the message implying that the overnight attacks were launched together with the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
, saying that Hamas was exclusively behind the barrage.

According to the sources, the statement was issued to convey to Israel that every military action in Gazoo will continue to be followed by a military response from the strip as part of Hamas’ attempt to try and change the status quo.

The Bookies Weigh In On The SCOTUS Pick
From what I've read elsewhere, the list of 25 from the previous potential SCOTUS nominees is the starting point for this round / may remain the same (save Gorsuch, of course).
[Zero Hedge] - In the aftermath of Justice Anthony Kennedy's bombshell announcement that he is retiring from the Supreme Court, attention turns who will replace him. And while Trump has yet to unveil his list of 25 potential replacements, here is the list of the most likely nominees according to online betting marketplace PredictIt, which has the 53-year-old Brett Kavanaugh as a leading frontrunner.

Brett Michael Kavanaugh (born February 12, 1965) is a United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He was Staff Secretary in the Executive Office of the President of the United States under President George W. Bush.

Kavanaugh himself was nominated to the D.C. Appeals Court by Bush in 2003. His confirmation hearings were contentious and stalled for three years over charges of partisanship. Kavanaugh was ultimately confirmed in May 2006 after a series of negotiations between Democratic and Republican Senators.

A former Kennedy law clerk with close ties to the retiring justice. Kavanaugh is a longtime Washington insider, having served as a law clerk to Kennedy and then as a key member of independent counsel Kenneth Starr’s team that produced the report that served as the basis for President Bill Clinton’s impeachment. In October, Kavanaugh dissented when his court ruled that an undocumented teen in federal custody should be able to obtain an abortion immediately.

Baghdad bombs and bullets bulletin: 4 maimed in 2 kabooms
Car bomb blast leaves Iraqi civilian wounded in Baghdad

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – An Iraqi citizen was wounded Wednesday in a car bomb blast in southwestern Baghdad, a security source was quoted as saying.

Speaking to Alghad Press, the source said, “An explosive charge placed under a private went off in al-Radwaniyah district in southwestern Baghdad, leaving the car’s owner wounded.”

According to the source, the injured was moved to a hospital for treatment.

“Security force rushed to the blast site and opened a probe into the attack,” added the source.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State (IS) militant group, in most cases, is responsible for attacks targeting crowded areas, including markets, cafes and mosques across Iraq.

bully boyz are asking courts in Iraq to legally separate them from their spouses, a judicial source was quoted saying by al-Arabiya network.

The source said Iraqi courts at some Sunni regions received requests from the wives of ISIS myrmidons, who fled fighting with the group, asking for separation, especially at Anbar and Nineveh.

The source said the courts approved many requests based on a decree issued by the former Iraqi regime of late president Saddam Hussein which allows Iraqi women to apply for separation for "convincing reasons".

The approvals, according to the source, cited "the damage to reputation caused to the wives by their husbands’ affiliation with terrorist entities, adding that many of the women claimed they were married against their will.

Since IS bully boyz took over a third of Iraq in 2014 to proclaim a self-styled "caliphate", reports were rampant of the gunnies forcing Iraqi females under their rule to get married to them, as well as accounts of sexual slavery.

Iraqi authorities are holding hundreds of wives and children of IS myrmidons, some of whom have been sentenced to death and prison for involvement with the myrmidons’ activities.

#5  I hope Trump sticks it to the unhinged left this time and nominates another justice like Bork to replace retiring justice Kennedy.
I would love for conservatives to fight back this time and to not cave in to the hate filled radicals this time like 1987 with justice Bork.
It is now very obvious what the leftist radicals were trying to do way back in 1987 by torpedoing justice Bork.
The leftist were attempting to legislate their lawless tyranny on the entire country at the hand of a few radical justices.
As soon as Trump was elected these leftist justices sprung into action in collusion with social justice groups throughout the country to make judicial rulings from the bench to block the executive branch from carrying out any of its administrative roles to keep the country safe from those who would seek to enter the country illegally and then carry out other crimes or simply by voting to give power to those leftist who would attempt to take over the country for their tyrannical purposes.

Eight Philippine soldiers injured in clash with Abu Sayyaf
[PhilStar] Eight Philippine soldiers were injured in an clash with Abu Sayyaf militants in Patikul, Sulu on Saturday afternoon. Military spokesman Gerry Besana said troops encountered around 40 rebels led by Almujer Jada and Sonny Boy Sajirin in Barangay Bangkal.
They say Sonny Boy is the greatest blues musician in Mindanao.
The military said the rebels also suffered casualties, citing bloodstains on their escape route. War materiel, including an improvised explosive device, were recovered at the scene.

Meanwhile, a suspected follower of Abu Sayyaf leader Radullan Sahiron; Suaib Hayudini, alias Enteng; was arrested in Barangay Walled City, Jolo on Sunday.

Graciano Mijares, the police director for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said the arrest was based on warrants for kidnapping and serious illegal detention and kidnapping with frustrated murder issued in 2003.

Sahiron was tagged in the kidnapping of ten Europeans, nine Malaysians and two Filipinos at a resort on Sipadan island in 2000. The captives were held in Sulu for five months and freed in batches after the alleged payment of large ransom.

Three BIFF militants surrender in Maguindanao
[PhilStar] Three more members of the banned Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters surrendered on Friday and pledged allegiance to the Philippine flag.

One of them told reporters they decided to surrender and turn over their firearms after realizing that their group, based in central Mindanao’s Liguasan Delta, could be next military target following an airstrike there two weeks ago that destroyed their makeshift bomb-making facility and killed nine, three of them foreign terrorists.

He said the squabbles of their commanders for leadership of the BIFF - which has three factions now, one of them led by an Islamic State-inspired cleric, Imam Abu Toraife - are worsening.

The surrender of the three men brings to 18 the number of BIFF rebels who surrendered to the 6th ID since April this year. The first to give up were four rebels trained in bomb-making by slain Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, most known as Marwan. Eleven more surrendered three weeks later.

Reports have circulated purporting that more than 20 BIFF members had been executed by their comrades from April to May alone on the mere suspicion they were in talks with groups interceding for their surrender. Two of those reportedly killed by companions gangland style, Akong Sumael and Khalid Tangan, were accused of providing the military information on their movements in the Liguasan Delta.

Mosul clearance continues: 5 turbans and a dangerous turbanette tied up
Iraqi police arrest five Islamic State militants in Mosul

Nineveh (Iraqinews.com) – Five Islamic State militants were arrested Wednesday in Mosul city, the interior ministry’s spokesman was quoted as saying.

“Nineveh police arrested five members of the terrorist Islamic State group in the western side of Mosul,” Maj. Gen. Saad Maan told Alghad Press.

According to Maan, the arrests were made during a security campaign in Al-A’amel neighborhood in Mosul city.

Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence earlier in November with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.

Wajida, according to the sources, is one of the dangerous female militants and could lead to places, where other members are hiding in Nineveh. She was arrested in al-Maamoun district, in the western side of Mosul. She was along with her family members, who are affiliated to the militant group.

She used to cooperate with senior members of the group, the sources said. She has a lot of information about militants in south of Mosul.

Kurram IDPs set conditions for return
[DAWN] The displaced families of Kurram have rejected the procedure of their rehabilitation and warned of moving court and staging a sit-in outside the parliament house if the government does not release funds for reconstruction of their destroyed houses and shops.

Speaking at a news conference at the Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
Press Club on Tuesday, a group of elders led by Haji Rohullah said at least 1,000 families of Parachinar had been out of their villages for last 11 years, but the federal government had never paid serious attention towards their misery.

He said after the Fata-KP merger the tribal people had access to the courts and they would use their right if their demands were not met.

"The government is forcibly sending the families to their villages and those not willing are threatened with blockage of their CNICs and passports and confiscation of their land properties," said Rohullah, describing the policy as injustice with the displaced people.

He revealed that when the people returned to their hometowns they found their houses razed, but the government was not ready to release funds for reconstruction of the buildings.

Myanmar sacks top general blamed for Rohingya killings
[DAWN] Myanmar’s military said it sacked a top general who was named in fresh EU sanctions against security officials accused of serious rights violations in the Rohingya crisis, including killings and sexual violence.

Myanmar is accused of waging a crackdown in Rakhine state that forced 700,000 to flee that the UN and major western powers have said amounts to "ethnic cleansing".

But the military said late on Monday in a Facebook post that Major General Maung Maung Soe, the former head of the western command in Rakhine, had been "purged" for poor performance.

The announcement came after the EU said he was among seven security officials hit with travel bans and asset freezes, but Myanmar did not link his sacking to the new sanctions.

The Facebook post said Maung Maung Soe was first reassigned last November, and that his removal from his position in the western command was to "inspect his responsibility over his weakness while working for Rakhine state stability".

Maung Maung Soe was also the target of US sanctions last year over the Rohingya crisis.

The statement added that Lieutenant General Aung Kyaw Zaw ‐ commander of the bureau of special operations and also on the EU list ‐ was permitted to resign in May for health reasons and "weakness in serving duty".

Syrian Army announces liberation of entire Deir Ezzor from ISIS
[EN.ABNA24] The General Command of the Army and Armed Forces announced liberating the entire Badia (desert) of Deir Ezzor province from ISIS (ISIS) terrorist organization.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Command said that "the Syrian Arab Army units operating in Deir Ezzor, supported by the Syrian air force, managed to expel ISIS (ISIS) gunnies from the entire desert of the province after clearing an area of 5800 square kilometers of terrorism."

The Command added that the army units engaged in fierce battles with gunnies before clearing the area of them, inflicting heavy losses upon gunnies in personnel and equipment while the rest fled away.

The statement noted that ISIS was defeated under the intensive strikes of the heroes of the Syrian Arab Army on all directions as all of its sites and positions were destroyed up to the administrative border of Homs province.

The General Command stressed that the clearing of this vast area in the Syrian Badia and the crushing of ISIS gunnies in that region confirms the high efficiency of the Syrian army’s heroes.

The Command expressed its commitment to continue to pursue the remnants of terrorist organizations of different names until security, peace and stability prevail throughout the country and the entire Syrian territory is purged of the abomination of Takfiri

Science & Technology
Let's play monopoly.
In the wake of Northrop-Orbital merger, Aerojet’s solid rocket engine business teetering on the brink.

There are now technically two companies that still manufacture large solid rockets for military ICBMs — Aerojet Rocketdyne and Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems, which absorbed Orbital ATK in a deal that closed June 6. The industry is poised to become a monopoly, however, as Aerojet’s large solid rocket motor business is on not-so-solid ground.

While both companies have healthy production lines for solid rockets for tactical missiles, unless Aerojet gets new orders, Northrop could end up as the Pentagon’s sole supplier of large solid rocket motors — generally defined as those greater than 1 meter in diameter.

The Pentagon flagged this issue as a concern in its 2017 Annual Industrial Capabilities report to Congress. “In the very near future all the large SRMs for strategic missiles and space launch will be produced by Orbital ATK,” the report said. Among those large motors are the space shuttle-derived solid rocket boosters that will now be built under Northrop for NASA’s Space Launch System heavy-lift rocket.

Aerojet has maintained a line producing strap-on boosters for United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 space launch vehicles and small development contracts from the Air Force Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBDS) program that is now in a competitive source selection between Northrop Grumman and Boeing.

Turkey detains 192 military personnel in more post-coup probes
[AlAhram] Ottoman Turkish authorities have ordered the detention of 192 military personnel in operations targeting suspected supporters of a U.S.-based Moslem holy man accused of orchestrating a failed coup two years ago, authorities and media said on Wednesday.

One former brigadier general and 30 pilots were among 99 members of the airforce facing possible charges in an investigation launched by Ankara prosecutors and spread across 20 other provinces, the prosecutors' office said.

It said the detainees were suspected of being in contact with the network of the holy man, Fetullah Gulen, and of communicating with it via periodic pay phone calls, a method believed to be used by the supporters of the group.

In a separate series of operations, authorities ordered the detention of 93 personnel from the army, navy and coastguard, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

Authorities have regularly conducted such sweeps against alleged supporters of Gulen since the coup attempt in July 2016, in which 250 people were killed. Gulen, who has lived in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania since 1999, denies involvement.

On Tuesday Ottoman Turkish authorities ordered the detention of 132 people in nationwide operations.

In total, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

has detained some 160,000 people and dismissed nearly the same number of state employees since the coup attempt, the United Nations

said in March. Of those, more than 50,000 have been formally charged and are being kept in jail during trial.

Turkey's Western allies have criticised the scale of the crackdown.

Critics of President Tayyip Erdogan accuse him of using the failed putsch to quash dissent. Turkey says the measures are necessary to combat threats to national security.

Erdogan won a further five years in power in Turkey's presidential election on Sunday. He has also gained sweeping new powers under a constitutional revamp that took effect after the election.

said Wednesday.

The officials claim that the group led by Mohammad Hassan also famous as Zubair renounced violence and laid down their weapons after Imams of Mecca Grand Mosque and the Nabuwi Mosque declared the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan as Haram or forbidden.

Nangarhar’s governor Hayatullah Hayat told news hounds that a group of eighteen Taliban bully boyz led by Mohammad Hassan also famous as Zubair joined grinding of the peace processor after they were affected with the recent Fatwas/speeches of the prayer leaders of Mecca Grand Mosque and the Nabuwi mosque.

He said the gunnies also handed over eighteen weapons to the Afghan intelligence directorate in Nangarhar.

According to Hayat, the group was engaged in violence and war against the government for the past five years and recent decided to renounce violence and join grinding of the peace processor.

Hayat also added that the government and the international community are prepared for any type of negotiation for peace and to use all means and possible ways for reconciliation.

The commander of the group Mohammad Hassan told news hounds that they decided to join grinding of the peace processor considering the demands by the religious scholars of the country, speech of the Grand Mosque of Mecca, and after seeing the environment of love among the people during the ceasefire period.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan’s victory
[DAWN] AFTER 15 years in power, both as prime minister and president of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
is set to start a new term as president following his party’s election victory on Sunday. Securing just over 52pc of the vote, the veteran politician survived a challenge mounted by the opposition CHP. While Turkey indeed has come a long way under Mr Erdogan and the AKP’s watch, these successes should not lead to a democratically elected autocracy, as the Ottoman Turkish leader is set to assume a more powerful presidency, with the office of prime minister eliminated. By and large, the vote was fair and the turnout was high (over 80pc), though some observers said there were a few attacks on opposition candidates. As stated, Mr Erdogan will now occupy an even more powerful presidency, approved in a referendum last year; this concentration of powers is worrying and Turkey’s democratic gains must be preserved and strengthened under the new government.

Both internally and externally, Mr Erdogan faces numerous challenges. For example, his vow to go after the Kurdish PKK in Iraq and Syria will certainly not go down well with Turkey’s own Kurds. Moreover, the previous AKP-led government’s crackdown on opponents and those suspected to be linked to holy man Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
was a troubling development. Opponents of the government must be free to organise and express themselves, within constitutional bounds, and should not be subjected to a witch hunt. Turkey’s economic situation is also fragile, while the war in Syria next door is far from over. These complications require an inclusive approach from the new government. Whether it is the Kurds or political opponents, the new government in Ankara must take all segments of society along and tolerate differences. This will strengthen Ottoman Turkish democracy and block the path of quarters trying to grab power in an extra-constitutional manner, as was witnessed during the botched coup of 2016.

Houthis agree to put Hodeidah port under UN surveillance

Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Meanwhile,

the Yemeni legitimate army backed by Arab coalition, continued its operations in the direction of Hodeidah city and its port, while the UN envoy continues his efforts regarding the Yemeni port city.

It is expected that Griffiths would meet later in the day with president Hadi and other local legitimate officials in the city in order to discuss efforts to spare Hodeidah a military confrontation and to resume political negotiations.

The Arab coalition and Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
legitimate government stressed that the withdrawal of the Houthi militias from Hodeidah city and its port is a condition fror the resumption of political negotiations and to halt all military operations.

But a Yemeni official revealed that Griffiths’ efforts focus on putting the port of Hodeidah under a UN surveillance.

Australian court lifts suppression on identity of Adelaide student accused of supporting ISIS
[EN.ABNA24] A suppression order on the identity of a South Australian student charged with being a member of self-proclaimed Islamic State has now been revoked by the Supreme Court.

23-year-old Zainab Abdirahman-Khalif is charged with knowingly being a member of a terrorist organisation.

The woman was arrested by Australian Federal Police in May last year after allegedly trying to fly to Turkey on a one-way ticket.

She allegedly pledged her allegiance to ISIS after communicating with extremists online who were involved in terrorist attacks in Kenya.

The prosecution alleges the woman had been repeating oaths and singing songs connected to ISIS in her bedroom.

Her lawyer previously tried to have the charge dismissed, but the court found there was a case to answer.

Ms Abdiraham-Khalif pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Justice Anne Bampton last week revoked a suppression order which had prevented publication of Ms Abdiraham-Khalif's name and image.

Child kidnapping rumours on Whatsapp spark five more Indian mob attacks
[DAWN] Indian police urged people on Wednesday not to believe false rumours spread on WhatsApp after a woman was killed and a dozen hurt in the latest mob attacks to leave authorities looking powerless.

In the worst of the five assaults in the western state of Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
on Tuesday, a destitute woman, Shantadevi Nath, and three others were attacked by around 100 people in the main city Ahmedabad.

"Half a dozen people surrounded the women as they were about to board an auto-rickshaw and started questioning them. Soon the crowd swelled and pulled Shantadevi and her companions out of the rickshaw and started thrashing them," police official JA Rathwa told AFP.

"People in the crowd rained punches and kicked the four women. Some even hit them with sticks and pulled them by their hair." The women were finally rescued by local traffic coppers and taken to hospital but Nath, 45, was declared dead on arrival.

The same viral message which sparked that incident, alleging that 300 people had descended on Gujarat looking to abduct and sell children, appears to have triggered four other mob attacks there the same day.

Six people were maimed in two separate incidents in Rajkot, 225 kilometres (140 miles) from Ahmedabad, including a family of five visiting to discuss a relative's marriage prospects.

In two assaults in Surat, 275 kilometres from Ahmedabad, five women were attacked by local villagers while a 45-year-old woman was assaulted after locals suspected she had kidnapped her toddler.

"It was a mostly male crowd which took away her daughter as they suspected her to be a kidnapper," a police officer told journalists.

"Both of them were brought to the cop shoppe where it became clear that she was indeed the child's mother," the officer added.

Plodding response
Twenty-two people are believed to have perished in the past year, media reports say, because of the same or similar WhatsApp rumours in at least five Indian states.

"Guys please be on high alert," reads one such message quoted by media.

"Three kids were kidnapped from my friend's area this morning. There were 10 guys giving biscuits... Parents pls be on high alert."

Another video ‐ actually a Pak road safety video ‐ which did the rounds is of a child apparently being snatched by two men on a cycle of violence.

The victims are usually outsiders. People have also been beaten to death on suspicion of stealing cattle.

Often videos of the attacks go viral on social media and are shown, albeit in pixellated form, on India's many rolling TV channels ‐ including, in one case, victims covered in blood and pleading for their lives.

The Gujarat incidents prompted police to issue a blurb, urging people not to "get carried away by fake social media messages".

Court releases three suspects in Chinese national’s murder case
[DAWN] An antiterrorism court on Tuesday accepted a police report recommending release of three detained suspects in a case pertaining to murder of a Chinese national.

The administrative judge of antiterrorism courts had sent the matter to ATC-IX with the direction to dispose of the same after the police investigating officer submit an ’A’ class report in the case.

After examining the record and hearing arguments from the IO and others, the ATC-IX judge approved the police report and ordered release of Saqib Ahmed, Rehan Hashim and Mohammad Aamir Khan forthwith if their custody was not required in any other case.

The police booked them for allegedly killing 48-year-old Chen Zhu, managing director of a shipping firm, in February near Zamzama Park in Defence Housing Authority.

Earlier, on June 13, the investigating officer submitted an investigation report to the administrative judge, stating that they had yet to find any evidence against the three suspects nabbed
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
over the murder of the foreign national and recommended their release.

The police report said that a joint investigation team (JIT) had grilled the suspects, but it could not find any incriminating evidence against them.

Initially, the police said that Saqib was a son of one of the partners of the same firm, while Hashim was an employee of the company. They had allegedly hired an assassin to eliminate the MD.

In the investigation report submitted to the administrative judge, investigating officer Syed Mohammad Sarfaraz of the Counter-Terrorism Department recommended that the three detained suspects be released under Section 497(II) of the Criminal Procedure Code since no solid evidence had so far been found against them during the course of investigation.

According to the report, the closed-circuit television camera footage of the incident was sent to the Punjab

Targeting Dawn
[DAWN] AN adversarial relationship between a free media and the state and public officials it seeks to cover is necessary and desirable in a democratic polity. In Pakistain, which has had long spells of undemocratic rule, such a relationship has often veered towards outright threats and violence against the media.

Today, as the country prepares to hold an unprecedented third consecutive on-schedule general election, there is a disturbing reality that confronts Dawn and its staff. Since late 2016, though with renewed and greater intensity since May 2018, the paper has been under attack in a wide-ranging and seemingly coordinated manner that includes its distribution being stopped in several areas.

While it has faced many strong challenges in the past, and will continue to do so with fortitude today, a campaign of disinformation, libel and slander, hate and virtual incitement to violence against Dawn and its staff has necessitated placing certain matters on the record.

One of the casualties of civil-military discord and strife in this country has been a free media that has embraced constitutional civilian supremacy. The publication of an article in this newspaper on Oct 6, 2016, ’Act against Lions of Islam or face international isolation, civilians tell military’, opened a new chapter of threats and intimidation against Dawn.

Following an unjustified state-led backlash, the newspaper pledged to cooperate with the authorities as required by the law, but defended the journalistic ethic of protecting one’s sources. Dawn’s editor and the news hound appeared separately before a government-constituted committee, comprising members of the civil and military intelligence, and were subjected to invasive, at times unacceptable, questioning for, cumulatively, many hours.

The effects of that insidious campaign against Dawn were continuing when the publication of a fully on-the-record interview with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
last month brought a round of new, intensified attacks against the newspaper. The seemingly retaliatory measures taken against Dawn in recent weeks have been deeply alarming and should concern all free-thinking and democratic citizens of the country.

It appears that elements within or sections of the state do not believe they have a duty to uphold the Constitution and the freedoms it guarantees. Article 19 of the Constitution is explicit: "Every citizen shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression, and there shall be freedom of the press."

The "reasonable restrictions" that Article 19 permits are well understood by a free and responsible media and have been consistently interpreted by the superior judiciary.

Dawn, like all free, independent media organizations, has never argued that it does not make journalistic mistakes and errors in editorial judgement. It considers itself accountable to its readers and fully submits itself to the law and Constitution. It welcomes dialogue with all state institutions. But it cannot be expected to abandon its commitment to practising free and fair journalism. Nor can Dawn accept its staff being exposed to threats of physical harm.

The highest authorities must take note and intervene appropriately.

Iraq
ISIS kidnappees hunted for, bodies foundfound
It isn’t clear to me whether both stories are about the same victims, though they ought to be. Sorry.
UPDATED: Bodies of people kidnapped by Islamic State in Iraq found

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) A human rights official in Iraq said the bodies of six people kidnapped by Islamic State militants were found in Salahuddin province.

Sputnik agency quoted Ali a-Bayyati, a member of Iraq’s human rights commission, saying that “eight abductees were found dead near Tal al-Sharaf, Salman Beik, Salahuddin province, north of Baghdad.

He said the victims were maimed by the militants.

The news were confirmed by Ali al-Husseini, a commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces, who told Shafaq News website that the corpses were “badly mutilated” which made it hard to identify them.

The Iraq’ Security Media Center, a media arm of the Joint Operations Command, said earlier on Wednesday that troops found dead bodies on the Baghdad-Kirkuk road, but could not confirm if they belonged to the kidnapped persons. The center urged media outlets on Tuesday not to drift with rumors about the execution of the victims.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi hinted Tuesday that the incident was being used to “weaken the country”.

Last Saturday, a video was posted purporting to show Islamic State militants threatening to execute six abductees if the Iraqi government does not release female detainees linked with the extremist group.

Iraqi army launches operation in search of six people kidnapped by IS

Diyala (Iraqinews.com) – A wide-scale military operation was launched Wednesday in search of the six people kidnapped last week by Islamic State (IS) group in Hamrin region in Diyala, a local military commander was quoted as saying.

Speaking to Alghad Press, Commander of Diyala Operations Maj. Gen. Mazhar al-Azzawi said, “A joint force made up of security men and military intelligence personnel launched a military operation in the areas surrounding Hamrin region between Qarah Tabbah town and the Baghdad-Kirkuk road to find the six people kidnapped by Islamic State militants last week.”

“The results of the military operation will be announced soon,” according to al-Azzawi.

The Islamic State group on Sunday released a video on its Amaq propaganda agency, threatening to execute the six men it kidnapped last week unless authorities in Baghdad release Sunni Muslim female prisoners within three days.

The kidnapped men were found to be members of the Iraqi police and al-Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces).

The militant group had posted some videos on its propaganda websites, claiming that seventeen people were kidnapped on a highway between Kirkuk and Baghdad, a road that has seen an uptick in attacks by the Islamic State in recent weeks.

India-Pakistan
Return of the MMA
[DAWN] THE Islamic parties that have experienced a steep decline in their electoral clout over the years are now going into the 2018 elections hoping for a better outcome. The revival of the, albeit truncated, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) is aimed at regaining some lost political space for the religious elements. The coming together of the squabbling religious groups would certainly add to their electoral weight. But can the Islamic political alliance offer a viable alternative to the voters thus making inroads into the existing power matrix?

Essentially, a united front of the JUI-F and the Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
(JI), the two most powerful religious groups, the MMA may have a significant support base in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, but its influence in other parts of the country is debatable. The differences between the two major component parties over key political issues and their distrust of each other will make it more difficult for the alliance to repeat its 2002 success in KP. There is no indication as yet of the MMA making its presence felt across the country.

NASA doubles down again on a losing game!
[SpaceNews] JWST (James Webb Space Telescope) suffers another launch delay, breaches cost cap!

NASA announced yet another launch delay for the James Webb Space Telescope June 27, pushing the flagship observatory’s launch to no earlier than late March 2021 while breaking a cost cap set by Congress.

NASA said it was now aiming for a launch of the telescope on March 30, 2021, nearly a year later than the May 2020 date that the agency announced three months earlier. That date came after a delay announced last September that moved the mission’s launch from October 2018 to the spring of 2019.

NASA also announced a new development cost estimate of $8.8 billion, which is 10 percent above the $8 billion cost cap established by Congress during a “re-plan” of the mission several years ago. The overall lifecycle cost of the mission, which includes operations after launch for at least five years, is $9.66 billion.

Before the announced slip last year to March-June 2019, JWST had been slated to launch in October 2018 – a date itself that was 11 years after the originally planned launch target of 2007 when the project was first conceived in 1997.

#1  Now what. One thing I don't get about the JWST is just why it was designed with the primary mirror at basically a right angle to the sun shield. If everything had been co-axial I would have thought it would make things a lot simpler to construct. To test. And to launch. Of course is this delay related to the never ending abbrtion that the SLS has turned into. Congress gets a lot of the blame for that. Reconfiguring the Suttle External Tank into a heavy launch vehicle should have been fairly simple. Instead it seems to be a jobs program for Marshall Space Center and Lockheed. Reminds me of the X-33. When Lockheed was having problems getting the compossite tanks to hold up they offered to just build the tanks out of Al-Li alloy. At least then the project could have proceeded to the test flight phase. Or when NASA took over the DC-X from the SDI and proceeded to destroy the vehicle. If this is due to problems related to the SLS screw NASA. Just sign a launch contract with Space X. At least they fly hardware

#2  It's beginning to look like the JWST is a secret project lead by Lockheed.

#3  SLS is a separate boondoggle. This POS is going up on that non-American rocket the EU's Ariane.
Even worse there are no delays on the EU side of this deal. It's all on the US side.
some JSWT background
Moreover, these
are not the first issues to face the James Webb Space Telescope project in the last nine months. Following NASA’s announcement in September that the telescopes launch was slipping from October 2018 to NET (No Earlier Than) March-June 2019, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) warned in February 2018 of dangers of additional slips beyond the realigned date due to ongoing issues with integration and testing operations and prime contractor [Northrop Grumman] optimism.
The report was particularly scathing toward Northrop Grumman, highlighting the company’s work on JWST as the project’s critical path toward being able to launch at the end of the window in June 2019 as well as Northrop’s continued “optimism” for schedules and underestimation of time needed to complete work.
Moreover, the GAO identified five specific areas that posed threats to the March-June 2019 launch schedule, including:

“resolving lingering technical issues from the OTIS (Optical Telescope & Integrated Science Instrument Module) cryovacuum test and preparing and shipping of OTIS to the Northrop Grumman facility in California for integration with the spacecraft,
Completing integration of spacecraft hardware, and conducting spacecraft element environmental tests and remaining deployments of the spacecraft and sunshield – activities which, to date, have taken considerably longer than planned,
Integrating the completed OTIS element with the spacecraft element and testing the full observatory in the fifth and final integration phase, which includes another set of challenging environmental tests,
Mitigating approximately 47 remaining tracked hardware and software risks to acceptable levels and continuing to address the project’s 300+ potential single point failures to the extent possible, and
Preparing and shipping the observatory to the launch site and completing final launch site processing, including installation of critical release mechanisms.”
As a result, the GAO warned that JWST was at risk of exceeding its $8 billion formulation and development cost cap prior to launch.

#6  Oh and it's the shape it is because it was designed to first fold for the space shuttle then for the Ariane.

A non-folding design would have had much less trouble.

A non-folding one couldn't fit on the shuttle or Ariane but could on a FH or Delta V with custom fairings with much less cost and hassle. Of course it's too late for that kind of common sense at this stage.

Syrian regime bars Daraa’s displaced from crossing to safety
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] With the Syrian regime’s continuous bombardments and Arclight airstrikes on southwestern Daraa, thousands of displaced civilians are trying to escape to safety away from the military operations and near the Jordanian border and the areas close to the occupied Golan Heights.

Some of the displaced civilians sought shelter at thehomes of family and friends, while others took shelter in schools. Even then, a large number of the displaced were left stranded in the bushes without any shelter.

The United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
estimated the number of those displaced near the Jordanian border at 45,000, while the number of the displaced from all areas in Daraa is far more than the UN figure.

According to local sources, some of the displaced took shelter in areas close to the occupied Golan Heights as the Syrian regime avoided shelling this area which is close to Israel.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights quoted sources as saying that the Syrian regime is banning civilians from entering areas under its control, and neither is it allowing them to go to the capital Damascus by putting barracks and security checkpoints on the roads and imposing fines of up to $500 on those wanting to enter areas under Bashir al-Assad’s control.

Tehran Grand Bazaar protests enter third day
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Tehran’s Grand Bazaar protests have entered their third day as thousands of protesters over the past days have rallied against rising prices and the Iranian currency’s sinking value.

But the protests have escalated in their tone by chanting anti-regime slogans critical of the Iranian leadership. Videos published online Wednesday morning have shown protesters saying "don’t be afraid, we are all united".

Pictures circulated showed shops as they remained shut as part of a traders’ strike at the capital’s bazaar that began days ago.

A video posted to social media show protesters chanted "Death to Rouhani," the country’s president, and "No to Gazoo, No to Leb" in reference to Iran's support of proxy groups in the region.

Security forces have attacked the demonstrators on Tuesday near the gold souk in Tehran as fired rubber bullets at them.

Footage shared by activists showed a member of security forces dressed in civilian attire beating a demonstrator forcefully as fellow protesters shouted.

India-Pakistan
Chaudhry Nisar’s exit into wilderness
[DAWN] THE break between the Sharifs and the Chaudhry from Chakri is finally official with the announcement of PML-N ticket holders in his constituencies. A predictable end, it has been months, if not years, in the making. There is no doubt, however, that the rift grew wider as did Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
’s distance to power. If the differences started to become clear with the disqualification, the end was made official with the ticket distribution.

This is usually the routine for political separations ‐ they tend to happen once leaders are out of power.

In Nisar’s case, the final break came not over the end of the PML-N’s tenure but the latter’s (or rather Nawaz Sharif’s) refusal to give the party ticket to the former. The initial list of PML-N candidates had not mentioned any candidates for the constituencies Nisar Ali Khan had filed his papers from, leading to many a conjecture. Some felt that Shahbaz Sharif
...Pak dynastic politician, brother of PM Nawaz Sharif, chief minister of Punjab...
(who continues to maintain a better relationship with Khan than his brother) had prevailed while others felt that there had been a rapprochement between the party and the leader. But it turned out that Nisar and the party were not just on a break; it was over.

Admittedly, this is not unique to the PML-N; parties in Pakistain tend to revolve around individuals. As a result, any difference of strategy, principle or opinion ends up as an ugly clash of egos and a bitter separation. From the time of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto
...9th PM of Pakistain from 1973 to 1977, and 4th President of Pakistain from 1971 to 1973. He was the founder of the Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP). His eldest daughter, Benazir Bhutto, would also serve as hereditary PM. In a coup led by General Zia-ul-Haq, Bhutto was removed from office and was executed in 1979 for authorizing the murder of a political opponent...
to the present generation, there appears to have been little change. Anyone not willing to prostrate before the reigning monarch has had to exit, ungracefully.

The fate of the Lifeline ship, run by a German NGO, hung in the balance as EU states remained at loggerheads over how to handle the influx of people trying to reach the continent.

The vessel had rescued the 234 migrants colonists, including children and pregnant women, on Thursday but Malta and Italia initially refused to take it in.

"I just got off the phone with (Maltese) Prime Minister (Joseph) Muscat: the NGO ship Lifeline will dock in Malta," Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said, without specifying when.

"Italia will do its part and welcome some of the migrants who are onboard the Lifeline." Portugal also confirmed it was ready to accept an unspecified number of the Lifeline passengers.

#2  That's what soccer stadiums are for. Malta's not using them now anyway.
