Class action lawsuit targets unions to recover dues
[FreeBeacon] Public-sector workers across the country are seeking to recover back wages they paid to labor organizations in the event the Supreme Court declares mandatory union fees unconstitutional.
We should make public unions illegal... but I'll take hitting their pocketbook for now
Class action suits have been filed against eight unions in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Maryland, California, and the state of Washington, accusing individual unions of violating workers' rights by collecting mandatory dues payments. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on a groundbreaking case, Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, which challenges the constitutionality of forcing public-sector workers to pay union dues or fees as a condition of employment. The suits argue that any public-sector employee who participated in forced dues systems should receive financial "redress" from labor organizations.

"The defendants have violated the class members' constitutional rights by forcing non-union members to pay compulsory ’representation fees’ to the Maryland State Education Association (MSEA) or its affiliates as a condition of their employment," the Maryland complaint says. Similar language is featured in all eight lawsuits. "The compelled subsidy that [plaintiff Ruth Akers] and her fellow representation-fee payers must remit to the MSEA as a condition of their employment violates their constitutional rights."

Judge throws out SF and Oakland climate suits against big oil
[SFChronicle] A federal judge Monday tossed out two groundbreaking lawsuits by San Francisco and Oakland that sought to hold some of the world’s largest oil companies liable for climate change.

In an exhaustive, 16-page ruling that touched on such scientific matters as the ice age and early observations of carbon dioxide, U.S. District Judge William Alsup acknowledged the problem of a warming planet but said it is just too big for the courts to solve.

The cities are trying to get five oil and gas giants, including Bay Area-based Chevron, to help cover the costs of dealing with sea-level rise, like picking up the tab for seawalls. However, Alsup, noting that Congress and the White House, not the judiciary, are responsible for addressing the fallout from fossil fuels, granted the industry’s request to dismiss the suits.

"The problem deserves a solution on a more vast scale than can be supplied by a district judge or jury in a public nuisance case," he wrote.
Don't worry. They'll keep judge shopping until they get their way.

Army training will now focus on actual battlefield skills, not social issues
h/t Instapundit
[WashingtonTimes] Fighting will now take precedence over dealing with transitioning transgender troops, drug abuse and other issues as the Army seeks to overhaul its training regimen to hone its soldiers’ battlefield skills.

In a series of servicewide memorandums approved by Army Secretary Mark Esper and Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and obtained by The Washington Times, service leaders are making optional previously mandatory training on issues such as transgender transition and drug abuse. The move, Army leaders argue, is designed to relieve stress on the overburdened troop training regimen and refocus on soldiers’ ability to fight in combat.

"The Army’s regulations and policies that deal with training were pretty settled, and there were not a lot of detractors to it. ... It was all the other [training] requirements that we levied on ourselves, or we had levied from other places" that led to the increasingly cumbersome approach to combat readiness, said Col. John O’Grady, chief of the Army’s collective training division.

Those mandated training requirements "served as barriers to maximizing time ... to build readiness and lethality" within combat units, he said in an interview. Aside from ending mandatory training programs on transgender troops and drug abuse, courses on media awareness and human trafficking have been eliminated from the mandatory curriculum, the service memorandums state.

Netanyahu: Character assassination against me and my family
Not just USA
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday blasted media outlets for publishing details regarding the investigations involving he and his wife Sarah.

"Channel 2 News airs false gossip every night and carries out character assassination on me and my family. Bolshevik propaganda that is full of stories from years past that never happened," Netanyahu said.

"For years they hid the wasting of billions by prime ministers and presidents from the left, yet when it comes to me they are conducting a campaign of character assassination over ice cream, take away trays, and false gossip," he continued.

"This demonization is done on a regular basis to the right, to the religious, to the traditional - to anything that is not what they are. It is clear why the public does not buy their nonsense!" said Netanyahu.
Sounds familiar?
Netanyahu's remarks were made following a TV report claiming that the Prime Minister was charged $6,000 for use of the mini-bar at the hotel in which he stayed in Moscow in 2010. The details were revealed in a recording that state witness Nir Hefetz played for police.

South African Jewish leaders condemn ‘alarming' anti-Semitic attacks in recent days
(June 22, 2018 / JNS) South African Jewish leaders condemned "alarming" amount of anti-Semitic attacks this week.

According to the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, there has been a flurry of anti-Semitic and threatening attacks made against South African Jews both on social media and in face-to-face encounters in recent days.

On Thursday, a video showed passengers awaiting their luggage from an El Al flight into South Africa being verbally abused, and called "wicked Jews."

A mural with a Germany flag, with a swastika inserted in it, also appeared in Johannesburg.

There have also been increasing anti-Semitic rhetoric online as well in recent days, the South African Jewish group said.

"While it was unfortunately common to find anti-Semitic content online, it was rare for it to take so virulent and inflammatory a form as the latest reported comments," SAJBD Chairman Shaun Zagnoev said in a statement.

"The posts show how easily radical anti-Israel sentiment can spill over into hateful slurs and threats against Jewish people in general. We are being told that we are ’scum’, ’rats’, ’bastards’, ’pigs’, ’swine’ and ’fat-nosed f***ks. We are further being warned that "our time is coming" and that "the Holocaust will be a picnic after we are done with you."

The Jewish group said that it is "no coincidence" that these anti-Semitic incidents are coming out after South African supermodel Shashi Naidoo sparked controversy after calling the Gaza Strip a "shithole" on social media. The supermodel received several death threats from the remarks and later apologized. Naidoo had been defending popular South African DJ Black Coffee who had been attack by pro-BDS group for performing in Israel earlier this year.

South Africa has become a hotbed of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel policy and behavior in recent years.

CNN's Jim Acosta Gets Abused At A Trump Rally
If it's okay to harass Trump Administration employees (and also Trump supporters), so is this, and I hope I see this every single day from now until November, and then some. With video goodness!
[NewsBusters] - Hours before President Trump arrived on Monday night at a South Carolina campaign rally with incumbent Republican Governor Henry McMaster, CNN’s chief White House correspondent and carnival barker Jim Acosta faced quite the crowd behind him during a live shot with chants of "go home, Jim" and "fake news Jim," while one attendee moved from side to side with a "CNN Sucks" sign.

During a live shot in the next hour, Acosta decried the lack of civility by these Trump supporters and highlighted a woman who had heckled him. Responding to her calls for CNN to pack up and leave, he asserted like a true firefighter that "we are here to do our jobs."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
How Comey intervened to kill WikiLeaks' immunity deal
[The Hill] One of the more devastating intelligence leaks in American history ‐ the unmasking of the CIA’s arsenal of cyber warfare weapons last year ‐ has an untold prelude worthy of a spy novel.

Some of the characters are household names, thanks to the Russia scandal: James Comey, fired FBI director. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Department of Justice (DOJ) official Bruce Ohr. Julian Assange, grand master of WikiLeaks. And American attorney Adam Waldman, who has a Forrest Gump-like penchant for showing up in major cases of intrigue.

Each played a role in the early days of the Trump administration to try to get Assange to agree to "risk mitigation" ‐ essentially, limiting some classified CIA information he might release in the future.

The effort resulted in the drafting of a limited immunity deal that might have temporarily freed the WikiLeaks founder from a London embassy where he has been exiled for years, according to interviews and a trove of internal DOJ documents turned over to Senate investigators. Read the draft immunity deal proffer that the Justice Department was considering for Assange here.

Where Is Waldo Barack Obama?
Like I give a rat's ass - check out the level of whining and utter bullshit in this article - it's awesome, baby!
Just a small taste for you guys...

[MSN]...But the Boy Scouts speech really troubled him. Kids their age are the most impressionable group there is, Obama reminded friends at the time, likening them to sponges. If the president shoves a divisive political argument at them, that’s what they will absorb.
Something he knows all too well...
It was a very Barack Obama thing to get agitated about. Throughout his entire political career, he has attached an unusual degree of significance to storytelling, and he has often spoken of the importance of modeling what it means to be a good citizen. He had recently concluded a two-month stretch full of international travel and was just starting to settle into his post-presidency, and that week was a busy one in Washington ‐ Republicans were zeroing in on a vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The Boy Scouts speech was relatively unimportant (mostly improvised, probably something Trump would forget about within a week), but perhaps it presented an opportunity. One of the most potent tools in Obama’s arsenal, as a retired president, is rhetoric. Even if he no longer enjoyed the bully pulpit, he could, if he wanted, fill the vacuum of moral leadership Trump had created (what's that supposed to mean? - ed.) and offer, to not only the Scouts but the entire country, a lesson in civics that no other Democrat is positioned to give.

But then he did another very Barack Obama thing: He decided to stay quiet.
BWHAAA HAAAA HAAA!
Where is Obama? It is a question much of the country has been asking over the last two years, sometimes plaintively. "Come back, Barack," Chance the Rapper sang in a Saturday Night Live sketch. "We all miss him," Kobe Bryant said, speaking for other athletes. Even former FBI director James Comey admitted to German interviewers this spring that he misses Obama.
You get the gist of it by now; the entire article is complete and utter codswallop...

Is America headed toward a civil war? Sanders, Nielsen incidents show it has already begun
[USA Today] The other day, author Tom Ricks asked whether we’re heading toward a civil war. "I don’t believe we’re to Kansas of the 1850s yet. But we seem to be lurching ... in that direction," he wrote.

Ricks was commenting on "What Democratic rage would look like," a Bloomberg opinion column that quotes political scientist Thomas Schaller as saying, "I think we're at the beginning of a soft civil war. ... I don't know if the country gets out of it whole."

That sounds pretty serious. The column by Francis Wilkinson presents a catalog of things Democrats are mad about ‐ from the existence of the electoral college to Trump’s "propaganda apparatus" ‐ and predicts that if Democrats lose the midterm elections, there will be hell to pay. (And Republicans, you know, could make a similar list of their own complaints.)

"I don't know exactly what that would look like," Wilkinson writes. "But liberals have a great deal of cultural, academic and economic heft, stretching from Hollywood to Harvard. Just this week, someHollywood powerhouses flirted with leveraging their clout against the Trumpist Fox News. There are endless variations on such a power play. If Democrats opt to use their power more aggressively ‐ breaking rules ‐ Schaller's soft civil war hardly seems unlikely."

It think they'll be surprised out how unwilling the black community would be to fight FOR the liberal cause (as opposed to fighting for territory or a black cause) and how, even if well armed, untrained they are compared to the average conservative 2A fan.

#10  Someone wrote out an example of how during massive civil unrest, unrestrained riots could be essentially shut down by a few teams in trucks. They have driver and security, armed with carbines. In the bed there are two marksmen, armed with DMR style AR's. The bed has sandbags set up for protection. The rioters tend to clump at intersections so they can attack vehicles. Truck pulls up a few hundred yards away, driver and security hop out and drop the bed gate, the two marksmen then fire one magazine worth at the rioters as slow aimed fire. Then they yank the gate up and depart. It's brutal but would be very effective. Few gangers can hit anything 30 feet away with rifles or pistols, much less 300-400 yards away.

#12  Silentbrick, serious question, why lower the gate and have the shooters get out? Why couldn't they steady their weapons on the gate? Or lower it from inside and fire from the prone position.

#13  Sorry, I didn't explain it very well, Marksmen remain in truck bed, with firing ports through the sandbags, driver and security get out and watch. Marksmen finish their mag, the driver/security pair close the tailgate and get back in and drive off.

Of the four people, only two get out, driver and security. Only 2 people are generally visible at any time as well.

And how buff as infantry do you have to be to shoot up power sub stations or pick off truck drivers trying to bring in food to cities? President Trump's aides urged to get a Concealed Carry Permit and weapon
[Wash Examiner] Facing a new wave of potentially dangerous threats, called for by a top Democratic lawmaker, legal and gun experts are calling on top Trump aides to get their concealed carry permit and back it up with a pistol.

"There are simply not enough police in D.C. or Virginia or Maryland to protect all Trump officials at their homes and when they go out to restaurants. Getting a concealed handgun permit would be helpful to protect themselves and their family," said John R. Lott Jr., president of the influential Crime Prevention Research Center.

"High level officials in the Trump administration, especially if their faces are likely to be recognized by many in the public as a result of appearances on TV, might want to consider applying for a license to carry a concealed weapon in the District of Columbia, and/or other states they frequent, in view of the call by Rep. Maxine Waters for the public to ’absolutely harass’ these officials in public places, and other recent events indicating the increased danger they are in," added public interest law professor John Banzhaf.

Pres. Trump demands open-door hearing for FBI agent Strzok.
[The Hill] President Trump on Monday called for FBI agent Peter Strzok's testimony to take place in an open hearing after an inspector general report found he and a fellow bureau official texted that they needed to "stop" Trump from getting elected.

The president's tweet was sent as he was en route to a rally in West Columbia, S.C., to support Gov. Henry McMaster (R).

Trump's calls for transparency echoed his previous comments about the Department of Justice's (DOJ) ongoing probe into Russian influence in the 2016 election. Trump has decried that investigation as a "hoax" and a "witch hunt," even as four of his former associates have been implicated in the probe.

Dem Rep Introduces Bill to Abolish ICE
[Free Beacon] Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan (Wisc.) announced Monday that he is introducing a bill to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In a tweet, Pocan called out President Donald Trump "and his team of white nationalists," for misusing ICE so it can "no longer accomplish its goals effectively."

‐ Rep. Mark Pocan (@repmarkpocan) June 25, 2018

"During my trip to the southern border, it was clear that ICE, and its actions of hunting down and tearing apart families, has wreaked havoc on far too many people. From conducting raids at garden centers and meatpacking plants, to breaking up families at churches and schools, ICE is tearing apart families and ripping at the moral fabric of our nation," Pocan said in a statement.

His press office said that his bill would create a commission to provide recommendations to Congress on how the US. can develop a more humane immigration system.

New Home Sales Soar 6.7% as South Rises to 11 Year High
[Breitbart] Purchases of new homes in the U.S. soared 6.7 percent in May to an annualized pace of 698,000.
Economists had forecast a gain of just 1 percent and an annual pace of 667,000, up from 646,000 in April. The April figure was revised down from 662,000.

The biggest boost came in the South, America’s largest region. Sales there rose 17.9 percent, hitting an annualized pace of 409,000, the highest in 11 years.

Home buyers found cheaper homes in May, with the median sales price falling by 3.3 percent compared with a year ago. That fall in home prices came despite complaints from home builders that tariffs were driving up their costs.
Residential construction is strong. The number of homes sold but not yet started rose to a six-month high, indicating that housing will continue to contribute to economic growth in the months ahead.

Demand for housing is likely getting a boost from the strong labor market and lower taxes. Higher interest rates, however, are expected to make buying a home more expensive.
Sales were unchanged in the Midwest, while sales in the West and the Northeast declined.

A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity

, told Arabic-language al-Ghad Press news agency that the criminal court in Dhi Qar issued the verdicts on Sunday, noting that all convicts were Iraqi nationals.

At least 60 people were killed and dozens more maimed in two gun-and-car kabooms near the city of Nassiriyah on September 14, 2017.

The attacks started with person or persons unknown opening fire inside a restaurant on the main highway that links the capital Baghdad with the southern provinces.

Shortly afterwards, a boom-mobile targeted a security checkpoint in the same area.

ISIS terrorist group later grabbed credit for the attacks.

Yahya al-Nassiri, the province's governor, said the majority of the victims were Iranian pilgrims who were inside the restaurant.

US training 8,000 ISIS members for terrorism in Iraq: MP
[EN.ABNA24] An Iraqi lawmaker said the US is currently training some 8,000 members of ISIS in Syria for carrying out terrorist operations in Iraq.

According to al-Sumaria news, Ferdows Awadi, a member of the State of Law Coalition in the parliament, warned the Baghdad government against the plot.

She warned that if the government fails to take the necessary measures, parts of the country might fall to terrorists.

“Currently, there is an American plot being hatched to revive the Daesh terror group and help it to again occupy parts of the country’s north and west,” she said.

They are also seeking to entangle Iraq in a new war and create economic problems, Awadi added.

She called on all Iraqis to counter the plot, which also targets the “heroes” of Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces).

ISPR warns public against phone calls by impersonators claiming to be military men
[DAWN] The Inter-Service Public Relations on Monday issued a warning, saying there were reports of "fake telephone calls being made to the general public by individuals impersonating as officials of the Pakistain Armed Forces".

According to the details provided by the military’s media wing, the impersonators try to seek personal information like CNIC number and bank account details on the pretext of census verification.

"Please be aware that no such calls are being made from Pakistain Armed Forces," the ISPR said in its statement, requesting public "not to respond to such calls, and immediately report the matter on our emergency helpline 1135 and 1125".

This is not the first time such phone calls have been reported. Earlier in January, similar type of phone calls were made to several people, prompting the ISPR to issue a clarification. The military's media wing had warned the general public against such telephone calls.

Then in March a large number of people again reported receiving telephone calls, allegedly made by impersonators claiming to be army officials, seeking their personal details, including CNIC numbers and bank account information.

Air strikes kill five as southern Syria assault looms
[DAWN] Air strikes on rebel towns in southern Syria killed five civilians and knocked a hospital temporarily out of service on Sunday, a monitor said, in fresh signs of a looming government assault.

Russian-backed regime forces have for weeks been preparing an offensive to retake Syria’s south, a strategic zone that borders both Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The regime has sent military reinforcements to the area, dropped flyers demanding rebels surrender, and ramped up air strikes in recent days.

Late Saturday, Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
’s Russian allies began bombing the rebel-held south for the first time since summer 2017, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Russian raids continued into Sunday.

"Five civilians including two women were killed on Sunday in Russian strikes on the towns of al-Herak, al-Sura, and Alma," said Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman.

The raids on al-Herak hit near a hospital, damaging it and forcing medical staff to shut it down at least temporarily, he said. The three rebel-held towns are located in Daraa province, known widely as the cradle of Syria’s seven-year uprising.

Daraa and the adjacent province of Quneitra are mostly held by opposition forces, while the government controls most of the province of Sweida to the east.

[EN.ABNA24] The Yemeni army fired 12 ballistic missiles at the Saudi-led coalition forces within three weeks of the escalation in the western coast, according to a report issued Sunday by Ansarullah’s al-Masira newspaper.
And if you can't trust the Houthis' official newspaper, who can you trust?
The ballistic missiles hit their targets with high precision, the report said.

The report revealed that the army and popular forces inflicted heavy losses on the coalition forces and their mercenaries from al-Amaliqa Brigades formed from different nationalities, al-Qaeda, and ISIS myrmidons.

According to the report, an Emirati barge and over 331 military vehicles of the coalition were destroyed and an Emirati manned reconnaissance plane was shot down.

The army’s drones also carried out six air operations against targets in the coalition’s camps in the coast during the same period.

NAB threatened with bomb attack on headquarters, accountability chief says
[DAWN] The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, retired Justice Javed Iqbal, on Monday revealed that the watchdog had received threats that its headquarters would be blown up, DawnNewsTV reported.

He said the threats had been received after the bureau initiated investigations in mega corruption scandals, but did not specify a time period.

The NAB chief, who made the revelation during a visit to a bureau office in Lahore, asserted that NAB officials were not afraid and would continue to perform their duties with dedication.

"Our struggle against corruption and malpractices will continue," he said.

Since Javed Iqbal took charge in October last year, NAB has filed 101 references out of 179 mega corruption cases registered with the watchdog.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The US-led coalition has reportedly airlifted two senior ISIS commanders from a small village in northeast Syria near the Iraqi borders in coordination with its Kurdish allies controlling the area.

According to local sources, two helicopters of the US coalition landed in Twimin village in order to transport two senior commanders from the Islamic State

US Arclight airstrikes on eastern Syria has so far massacred hundreds of innocent civilians ‐ mostly women and kiddies ‐ in the pretext of fighting ISIS.

This month, up to 68 civilians have been killed and injured in several US airstrikes across villages and towns in eastern Syria.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said evacuating ISIS elements comes under the blatant US support for the terror group which aims at prolonging the war in Syria.

1. It never happened
2. They were airlifting someone else and al-Masdar decided it had to be ISIS because who else would the U.S. be airlifting?
3. Could be negotiators (i.e., surrender, theirs not ours)

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes charged with criminal fraud
Federal prosecutors indicted Elizabeth Holmes on criminal fraud charges for allegedly defrauding investors, doctors and the public as the head of the once-heralded blood-testing startup Theranos. Federal prosecutors also brought charges against the company's former second-in-command.

Holmes, who was once considered a wunderkind of Silicon Valley, and former Theranos Chief Operating Officer Ramesh Balwani, are charged with two counts conspiracy to commit wire fraud and nine counts of wire fraud each, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California said late Friday. If convicted, they could face prison sentences that would keep them behind bars for the rest of their lives, and total fines of $2.75 million each.

Prosecutors allege that Holmes and Balwani deliberately misled investors, policymakers and the public about the accuracy of Theranos' blood-testing technologies going back to at least 2013. Holmes, 34, founded Theranos in Palo Alto, Calif., in 2003, pitching its technology as a cheaper way to run dozens of blood tests.

Holmes said Theranos had discovered a new way of doing blood testing, one able to conduct dozens of tests with just a prick of a finger and a few droplets of blood. A notoriously secretive company, Theranos shared very little about its blood-testing machine, nicknamed Edison, with the public or the medical community. Holmes said she was inspired to start the company in response to her fear of needles.

She carefully crafted her image as well, wearing almost entirely black turtleneck sweaters that earned her the moniker in Silicon Valley as "the next Steve Jobs."

Investors bought what Holmes was selling and invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the company. At one time, Theranos was worth more than $10 billion and Holmes was the youngest self-made female billionaire.

But an investigation by the Wall Street Journal two years ago found that Theranos' technology was inaccurate at best, and that the company was using routine blood-testing equipment for the vast majority of its tests. The story raised concerns about the accuracy of Theranos' blood testing technology, which put patients at risk of having conditions either misdiagnosed or ignored.

"CEO Elizabeth Holmes and COO Sunny Balwani not only defrauded investors, but also consumers who trusted and relied upon their allegedly revolutionary blood-testing technology," Acting U.S. Attorney Alex Tse said in a statement.

The Journal's investigation marked the beginning of the end of Theranos. Walgreens ended its blood-testing partnership with the company, and the HHS effectively banned Theranos in 2016 from doing any blood testing work at all.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission brought civil fraud charges against Holmes and Balwani three months ago. Holmes settled with the SEC, agreeing to pay $500,000 in fines and penalties. Balwani, 53, is fighting the charges.

As the charges were announced Friday, Theranos said Holmes would step down as CEO of the company and its general counsel, David Taylor, would become the company's next CEO. Theranos laid off most of its staff earlier this year and is widely expected to file for bankruptcy. Holmes remains the company's chairman.

The company did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on Friday's indictments.

Why the Iraqi Hashd al-Shaabi presence in Syria matters

Syrian Army foils jihadi attack in north Hama, kills scores
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army, backed by National Defense Forces, managed to thwart an attack launched by rebel Lions of Islam in the northern countryside of Hama, a Syrian military source said.

"An Army checkpoint at Zalin village was shelled with rockets fired by Lions of Islam in an attempt to score a ground advance. The assault was successfully repelled with artillery units targeting rebel positions and supply lines", the source explained.

The artillery shelling hit the rebels’ main supply route in al-Lataminah; the stronghold of Jaish al-Izza rebel group which carried out the attack.

"A vehicle equipped with a rocket launcher was also destroyed with all Lions of Islam onboard killed", the same source added.

The frontlines in northern Hama countryside have been active lately with jihadi Lions of Islam keep on attempting to break through the Syrian Army defensives.

Jaish al-Izza, an FSA-affiliated rebel faction, is part of a bigger alliance led by al-Qaeda-linked Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
which also includes smaller groups of Uzbek, Chechen and Uyghur bad boys.

Trump's poll numbers are surging as he faces some of the biggest controversies of his presidency
[Business Insider] President Donald Trump has faced intense, sustained backlash to his immigration policies even after a partial reversal of course.

But even as Trump's officials are shouted out of restaurants and called fascists to their faces, Trump's polling numbers have been steady ‐ even rising ‐ over the past several weeks.

A Gallup poll and the RealClearPolitics average of polls both put Trump around a 45% approval rating, with that number rising steadily throughout June. That's just one point lower than Barack Obama was at this point in his presidency.

Over the same period, Trump's border practices drove mainstream news anchors to tears and sparked round-the-clock coverage of family separations. Besides Trump's policy of separating families at the border, which he reversed amid the scrutiny, analysts say his overall immigration policy looks a lot like Obama's.

militias on Sunday announced that their commander at the Hardh front in the Hajjah Governorate, northwest of Yemen, has been killed along with dozens of their bandidos holy warriors following Arclight airstrikes carried out by the Arab Coalition.

The commander was identified as Abdelrazak Abdullah Ali al-Naami, popularly known as Abu Ahmad. He was tasked with commanding Houthis in the Hardh front where confrontations have escalated between the Houthis and the legitimate forces.

The Houthis did not specify when exactly Abu Ahmad was killed, but sources revealed that he was killed months ago. They added that the Houthis kept this secret because they wanted to maintain the morale of their fighters.

Abu Ahmad’s brother Radwan was also killed at the Hardh front ten days ago.

The Houthis’ strategy is to also hide their defeats in several fighting fronts, especially in the west coast and in their major stronghold in Saada.

Hundreds of Houthi commanders have recently been killed after they had to be directly involved in fighting fronts to compensate for the shortage in fighters.

Will The Airlines Finally Be Forced To Restore Legroom?
[Hot Air] Earlier this month we learned that American Airlines was paying off an anti-trust suit which claimed that four major carriers had conspired to keep flights packed and bolster ticket prices even as the cost of fuel was dropping significantly. While maintaining their innocence as part of the settlement, the airline seemed to be showing some signs of admitting that not everything was quite as rosy as it might be in terms of customer service.

Now there’s some other potentially good news for flyers on the horizon. It has nothing to do with customer complaints in this scenario, but rather an investigation by the Department of Transportation’s Inspector General into emergency evacuation protocols. Yahoo News reported last week that the standards being used by the FAA for these safety considerations are likely outdated and the airlines may be forced to give back some of that legroom you’ve been missing.

Former Bin Laden bodyguard, Tunisian Sami A., detained in Germany
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A suspected radical who once served as the late Osama bin Laden

’s bodyguard, was detained in Germany on Monday, police said.

The case of the Tunisian man, Sami A., sparked outrage in April after German media reported that he was receiving welfare benefits even though intelligence agencies have classified him as a potential threat.

Authorities in the western city of Bochum had asked police to detain Sami A. and the man did not resist, a front man for police there said. Top-selling newspaper Bild reported, without citing its sources, that Sami A. was now due to be deported.

Police could not confirm that, pointing instead to authorities in Bochum. A spokesperson for the city of Bochum could not be immediately reached.

Interior Minister Horst Seehofer has ordered immigration authorities to expedite proceedings that would allow Germany to deport Sami A.

German authorities have been trying to deport the man, who has lived in the northwestern city of Bochum since 1997, since 2006 but the threat of torture in his home country had prevented this, according to a previous report in Bild.

25 injured in building explosion in Germany
[DAWN] Twenty-five people were maimed, four of them severely, when an kaboom destroyed an apartment building in the western German city of Wuppertal, police said on Sunday.

Police said the kaboom rocked the several-story building shortly before midnight with a large bang, scaring people in surrounding homes so much they ran out into the street in a panic.

The detonation was so severe it destroyed the building’s attic and the top three floors, the German news agency dpa reported.

Fire then broke out in several different parts of the apartment building and firefighters had trouble dousing the flames because parts of the building kept collapsing.

They were able to rescue four severely injured from inside the building and sent them to the hospital. Another 21 people were slightly injured and treated by emergency staff at the scene.

Police said they were in the dark about the cause of the kaboom, dpa reported.

A car nearby was destroyed, buried under window frames that were blown onto it by the kabooms’ impact. Emergency personnel on Sunday picked up bricks and furniture on the street.

Some of the building’s roof beams stood black and eerie in the smoke as police scoured accessible parts of the building for further people trapped inside before giving the all-clear.

Where the building stood is now a huge gap in a row of apartment buildings in the city’s Langerfeld neighbourhood.

Later on Sunday, authorities brought in heavy equipment to tear down the remains of the ruin.

They said it was too dangerous for Sherlocks to search for evidence that might reveal the kaboom’s cause because the destroyed building could collapse at any time.

The militancy threat
[DAWN] THERE have been numerous successes in the long fight against militancy and the country is undeniably more stable and secure than it was just a few years ago. But two events in recent days have indicated that past and present achievements will not automatically guarantee continuing and future success in the long war.

The killing of several faceless myrmidons in South Wazoo, who according to security officials allegedly returned to Pakistain from Afghanistan along with other recently returning refugees, has underlined the difficult of fully securing a region where a major military operation was carried out nearly a decade ago.

Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie sadly admitted that he was a better peeping Tom than he was a comedian...
the banned TTP in exile quickly identifying and seemingly arriving at a consensus for a new leader, Noor Wali Mehsud, has underlined that the mere elimination of a senior bully boy leader will not necessarily lead to an unravelling of the group.

Indeed, the Pak security and intelligence apparatus will need to be on the highest alert in the days and weeks ahead. New bully boy leaderships often need to demonstrate a willingness and ability to launch terrorist attacks and the case of the current TTP head may be no different.

The upcoming general election and what is expected to be frenetic campaigning in the final weeks ahead of the election will surely be the target of bully boys.

The challenge for the state to hold elections in a climate relatively free from the threat of bully boy violence will be immense. But the accumulated experience of a decade of regularly scheduled elections, counter-insurgency campaigns and counterterrorism operations ought to help the state in providing stability and security.

It is hoped that the ECP and the caretaker governments will work closely and effectively with political parties to coordinate election-related activities. Mutual cooperation is in everyone’s interest.

a security source was quoted saying.

"IS faceless myrmidons stormed a village late Monday in Daquq district in southern Kirkuk, leaving a Kurdish citizen dead and another injured," the source told Iraqi website Baghdad Today.

Kirkuk officials always urge reinforcing military troops in the south and west of the province, as the region still has Islamic State members who escaped during liberation of Hawija to remote areas.

Iran condemns assassination of Afghan shia cleric
[EN.ABNA24] Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi has vehemently condemned the liquidation of a prominent Afghan shia holy man in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
According to the official website of Iran's Foreign Ministry, in a Monday statement, Ghasemi expressed regret over the liquidation of Mohammad-Jafar Tawakkoli, a religious scholar from the western province of Herat, and said such attacks which have recently gained momentum seem to be carried out with the aim of creating division among various groups and religions in Afghanistan.

He then expressed sympathy with the family of Shia holy man and said the Islamic Theocratic Republic remains confident that, like in the past, the vigilant Moslem nation of Afghanistan will foil the plots hatched by enemies and those who seek to divide the Afghan people.

Ghasemi also noted that the enemies will fail to break the unity of religious groups in Afghanistan.

Jihadist rebels to surrender entire northeast Daraa region to Syrian Army
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels have agreed to surrender the entire al-Lajat region of northeast Dara’a to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) after suffering several setbacks this past weekend.

According to a military source in the government stronghold of Izra’a, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
(HTS) and their allies from the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) agreed to handover the 20+ towns they controlled in the al-Lajat region to the Syrian Army.

The source added that many rebels will remain in al-Lajat to settle their cases with the Syrian government, while the remaining will move to southeast Dara’a.

For the jihadist rebels, this is a major blow to their morale, as they controlled the al-Lajat region for most of the war.

Furthermore, the loss of northeast Dara’a only adds to the pressure that is already on their forces inside the entire province. H

With the al-Lajat region soon to be under their control, the Syrian Army will turn their attention to the Nassib Crossing and historical city of Busra al-Sham in southeast Dara’a.

Syrian rebels attack Sweida as Daraa battles heat up

Today’s attack has caused substantial material damages in the predominantly-Druze city which has been remained safe until recently.

Killing of nearly 100 people in Plateau ‘retaliatory’
[PREMIUMTIMESNG] Saturday’s mass killing of at least 86 people who were attending a funeral event in Plateau state was an act of Dire Revenge following an earlier attack, the cattle rearers’ group, Miyetti Allah, has said.

Police said 86 people were killed in several villages while six persons were maimed in the attack that lasted between 1p.m. and 8p.m.

But residents said Monday over 120 people were massacred in separate attacks at different locations.

The state government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in parts of the state, amid growing tensions between locals and migrant herdsmen community. Residents blame the attacks on Fulani herdsmen, a group represented by the Miyetti Allah.

On Monday, the chairman the north central chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Danladi Ciroma, condemned the attacks.

Mr. Ciroma however said in a statement that the attacks were "retaliatory".

"These attacks are retaliatory. As much as I don’t support the killing of human being, the truth must be told that those who carried out the attacks must be on Dire Revenge mission," he said.

"Fulani herdsmen have lost about 300 cows in the last few weeks ‐ 94 cows were rustled by armed Berom youths in Fan village, another 36 cows were killed by Berom youths. In addition to that, 174 cattle were rustled."

The police said the attacks occurred in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. It almost led to reprisal attacks by in Jos, the state capital, on Sunday, with the government imposing a curfew.

A resident of Barkin Ladi had earlier told PREMIUM TIMES that 120 people were killed by the attackers.

In a statement on Sunday evening, the police also confirmed that six persons were maimed, with 50 houses razed.

"Eighty six (86) persons all together were killed, six people injured, fifty (50) houses burnt, fifteen (15) cycle of violences burnt down; two (2) motor vehicles burnt down," the police said in a statement by its spokesperson in Plateau, Terna Tyopev.

Mr Tyopev said bodies were discovered by a search party set up by the Plateau State commissioner of police, Undie Adie.

"Sequel to the attack in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi LGA yesterday (Saturday) 23/06/2018 , the commissioner of police Plateau State Command, Jos, CP Undie Adie, after deploying more personnel to the district sent a search and rescue team from the Command headquarters today for on the spot assessment," it said.

Pam Chollom, a pastor of the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN), who blamed the attack on armed herdsmen, said most of the victims were returning from the burial of a community leader.

The attacks have been widely condemned.

The Plateau state chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Nanyah Daman, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately replace all service chiefs.

"We strongly call on President Muhammadu Buhari who came on the mantra of Security,Corruption and Economic recovery to immediately sack and replace all the service chiefs and their paramilitary counterparts for allowing foreigners and the Fulani herdsmen gunnies to kill and maim defenceless children, women and men for four consecutive days unabated," he said in a statement Monday.

The chairman of the northern zone of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Yakubu Pam, also condemned the killings.

The group called on the government at all levels to wake up to their primary responsibility of protecting the lives of citizens.

"There is a heavy deployment of armed Houthis in the city and new check points have been set up in neighbourhoods where there are supporters of the Tehama brigades," said one resident, referring to a Yemeni faction from the Red Sea coastal plain that is fighting with coalition forces.

Fierce festivities broke out after midnight near Hodeidah University, around 3 km west of the city centre, on the coastal road linking the airport to the port, added the resident, who requested anonymity.

Coalition forces seized the airport on Wednesday and have been consolidating their hold in the area as UN efforts continued to reach a political deal that would avert an assault on the port, a lifeline for millions of Yemenis.

Egypt's interior minister says 'good progress' made in the country's war on terrorism
Lots of words, signifying... something.
[AlAhram] Egypt’s new Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik told his deputies via video conference on Monday that the country has made "good progress" in its war on terrorism, especially alongside the armed forces in Sinai.

In remarks released in an official statement by the interior ministry, Tawfik praised the security system and the effectiveness of its performance, which he said has achieved distinguished results.

Tawfik was appointed earlier this month, one of a number of new ministers in the cabinet of new Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

He said that the security services have been able to abort "a number of hostile schemes", adding that the plans of terrorist groups to target the Egyptian state do not stop at using funded elements.

Tawfik said the country’s police and armed forces are dealing with such threats with a high level of readiness, in an effort to protect the country from the path experienced by several states in the region who suffered from terrorism.

The Egyptian police are aiding the armed forces with Operation Sinai 2018; the major counter-terrorism was launched in February to target and destroy terrorist and criminal elements and organizations in northern and central Sinai, parts of the Nile Delta and the country's Western Desert.

The interior minister asserted the importance of periodic review of the country’s security strategy in light of regional changes.

He also said that it was important to adopt a strategy that includes intensifying pre-emptive strikes against terrorist elements, in order to deter terrorism.

Tawfik also called for the development of the ministry’s abilities to collect and analyse data and for the integration an information exchange system for state bodies, in order to dismantle the terrorist networks.

He said he was following up on the ministry’s attempts to protect citizens through its live monitoring of security cameras on a number of main highways and at vital and important facilities in security directorates.

The minister concluded in the statement by saying that the state will combat any attempts to jeopardise security or any appearances of illegal activity decisively and firmly.

Libya to restart exports after ‘full control’ of oil crescent
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Military strongman Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
’s forces announced Monday their "full control" of Libya’s oil crescent after driving out a rival militia, as authorities said normal exports were set to resume.

"Mopping up operations for enemy holdouts" have been completed, said Khalifa al-Abidi, front man for Haftar’s self-styled Libyan National Army.

Military commander General Ahmed Salem, in a video posted by the LNA, said the fields and oil installations in eastern Libya were back under the force’s "full control".

The LNA already announced last Thursday that it had recaptured two key oil ports, a week after they were seized by gangs led by militia leader Ibrahim Jadhran, although military operations in the area were unfinished.

On Sunday, a delegation from the National Oil Corporation, which said the violence had slashed oil production by almost half and cost billions of dollars in losses, inspected the Ras Lanuf oil terminal.

"Specialists are currently determining when operations may resume and will update the Libyan people and market in due course," the NOC said in a statement.

"Despite the severity of the fire damage to storage tanks 2 and 12, tanks 5 and 6 were saved thanks to the exemplary work of personnel on site."

Medics have said 16 LNA members were killed in festivities, but the number of dead on the other side was unknown.

Sharifs' property value is 32m: Daily Mail
[NATION.PK] The total value of the properties of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
and his family is estimated at £32 million with London’s swankiest addresses, revealed Daily Mail .
Politix pays good, don't it?
According to the revelations, Avenfield House is where super-rich Nawaz Sharif has lived when in London, since 1993. He shares this property with his two sons Hassan and Hussain, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar.

Avenfield House lies in the heart of Mayfair, near the top of Park Lane, with a view of Hyde Park. For Avenfield is where Nawaz Sharif has lived when in London since 1993, knocking four luxury flats together to make a single mansion, now worth at least £7 million.

It is just the kind of property that Russian oligarchs possessed in recent years. "The family has made huge profits from other sites which have not figured in court ‐ such as the swankiest address of all, at One Hyde Park Place, which Nawaz Sharif’s son Hassan sold for £43 million," the report said. For the past few months, the Sharifs are facing a trial related to Avenfield flats and other references in an accountability court. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor has alleged the ex-PM of making the property with dirty money.

The family is also accused of using dirty money to buy at least 21 UK properties on top of the Avenfield flats, most at equally grand Central London locations, in Mayfair, Chelsea and Belgravia. The total value of the properties is estimated at least £32 million.

Untangling the web of the Sharifs’ British real estate portfolio is not easy. The properties are registered via a bewildering network of companies, trusts and bank accounts. According to the prosecutors in Pakistain, the Sharifs have for years moved their money in and out of Britannia, Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
, the Middle East and the British Virgin Islands ‐ to conceal its dishonest provenance.

It is not illegal to own property through an offshore company.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
under Pakistain’s national accountability laws ‐ first enacted in 1997 when Nawaz Sharif was prime minister ‐ it is down to the Sharifs to prove their assets were acquired legitimately.

This, the prosecutors claim, they have failed to do. In court last week, Nawaz’s Sharif’s defence counsel claimed the prosecution had failed to establish his client was the beneficial owner of the flats or that he ran the offshore companies. He said his name did not appear on documents submitted by the prosecutors and that he did not need to call any evidence for the defence because the prosecution had not proved its case.

Nawaz’s son Hussain declined to respond to the MoS (Mail on Sunday).
