#8 Now that you mention it if Soros wanted to be clever he could buy a bunch of bail bonds places and just never make some criminals pay back. It would take a curious journalist to make the connection and there are very very few of those left.

#9 ruprecht, IIRC, the way that bail bondsmen work is that you pay them a percentage of the bail (10%?), and they pay the court. If you show up for court (which is what bail is supposed to do), the bondsmen get their money back, but you don't. If you don't show up, the bondsmen are out of money,but they can pursue you to get you. Plus the court will issue a bench warrant for your arrest.

Fortunately, I've never been arrested, so this is all stuff I've picked up from reading.

All true, but the 10% is not a hard-n-fast rule, depending on the crime, your propensity to skedaddle, your history, and funds available
